The second turning point
@cinnamontoastcroonch I hope you're happy.
I've been taking a critical eye to every episode of Minecraft Diaries as I rewatch it. And I mean writing upwards of entire essays about single episodes. As you saw with episode 65. Part of why I've been doing this is to see where things truly went wrong with this show. The early episodes were better than I remembered, but I know for a fact there was an entire falling apart that happened between the utter quality that is an episode like say episode 58, and well... Season 3.
Obviously episode 65 was the turning point, but that was just the inciting incident. All the problems in MCD ultimately come down to the love triangle and how poorly it was handled. And the next major step was in episode 77. Episode 77 is an episode that is mostly spent on minimal character interactions at the wolf tribe after the gang finally gets back there with Logan and everyone else. Aphmau spends most of the episode building a boat, and then getting distracted from building her boat.
Until she decides to go check on the Nether Portal. It's broken, like when she last saw it, but Laurance is standing in front of it. I need to emphasize something. Up until this point, we've gotten very few conversations where Laurance brings up being a Shadow Knight. He usually diverts these conversations, or they get diverted by others, so we've gotten very few personal insights into a Shadow Knights existence. This is one of the first real times that we get a deeper look at how this condition has effected Laurance.
And y'know what? I'm just gonna give you a quote from my video essay on this. A nice little teaser. As a treat :)
His mind has sort of been rewired to put himself before others, even if he’s naturally a very selfless person. Which is a real slap in the face when you remember most Shadow Knights are guards, who are encouraged to be selfless. His heart still loves dearly and he is still the same selfless fool who threw his life away to save Aphmau, but his mind is telling him to be more selfish, take what he wants without regard for others. Laurance is actively fighting these thoughts all the time, but he worries that one day he might give in and… He says he never wants his heart to forget Aphmau, even if his mind tells him otherwise.
Tumblr media
This. This hurts me. It's quality Laurance content. It's a great moment of Laurance proving one of his greatest strengths and weaknesses. How emotionally vulnerable he is. It makes him easy to hurt. It means he'll actually express it. He's struggled to talk about being a Shadow Knight, but now he's able to.
Imagine if episode 65 let him see the fear of killing Aphmau before this.
And just as Laurance says that absolutely heartbreaking line, GUESS WHO HAS TO MOSEY HIS SORRY ASS INTO THE ROOM?! Garroth just waltzs in there and interrupts this incredibly private conversation that he just happened to be listening to. Now, I will say, there is a way to justify this that I will accept, but I know without a doubt the writers didn't intend this.
The only way this works is if Garroth is listening to this conversation because he's scared of leaving Aph and Laurance alone in case Laurance decides to just... Kill her. But then he feels bad. But that would probably make him walk away out of guilt.
So yeah this doesn't make sense. For Garroth. At all. Why is he so scared of Laurance and Aphmau literally having one conversation? Well, it's the answer it always is. The love triangle. They've shown before that they are willing to disregard basic logic, only to prove that they know the details of this logic in a later episode. In Episode 65 they disregard Garroth's fears around his family, and then center an entire conversation around it in Episode 68.
But wait, it gets worse. Because Garroth knows for a fact that Aphmau and Laurance having an emotional conversation won't likely lead to any romance.
BECAUSE HE SAW LAURANCE CONFESS TO APHMAU 24 EPISODES AGO AND SAW HER REJECT HIM!!
There were seven weeks in between these episodes!! Idk how long it takes to make an episode of MCD, but I imagine episodes are written in major arcs at a time. How did they forget what happened IN THE LAST MAJOR ARC OF THE SHOW?! Because. Love triangle. Because Jesson don't care about the characters they previously wrote, they care about these characters fulfilling an already existing trope they liked in something before. They don't care how this dynamic might change because of their own characters, just that they go through the motions.
So Garroth interrupts this conversation. Laurance gets snippy and tells Garroth to fess up or else he might "sweep her off her feet first." And that's a red flag for Laurance. Good job writers. And let's be clear, I don't disagree with characters maybe being shitty, as long as it doesn't contradict previous characterization. Like this does.
The writers forgot that Garroth saw Laurance's confession. They forgot that Laurance took rejection on the chin. They forgot that Laurance literally said "I'm just happy to be in your life." Did they forget about Laurance's entire confession?! Do the writers think that went away when he stopped being blind?!
...
Oh fuck... Did... Did Laurance only accept rejection because he didn't think he was good enough to be with her when he was blind? Is that what they're trying to say? I... I really hope that isn't. And yet I wouldn't be surprised. Just completely and utterly disappointed.
That took a turn I didnt like. I don't know how to end this now.

Trauma Porn vs Representing Black Struggle in IWTV
TW: Domestic Violence (Focus) Rape (mentioned 1x)
Spoilers for the IWTV AMC Series
I think a lot of the distraught or incredibly positive reactions to Episode 5 of IWTV’s ending from black fans is because of the noticeable lack of genuine representation of black IPV let alone black queer people facing IPV at all. So not only was the scene without a trigger warning and absolutely out of nowhere (with of course the obvious foreshadowing and Lestat’s abusive behavior setting it up) but it was something that has barely been done for mainstream genre TV.
So as a black fan, seeing violence towards black people (trauma porn) is certainly not new to me... but seeing black queer people’s stories focus on IPV is something that I haven’t seen. It leaves me incredibly conflicted in ways that cannot be transcribed.
Genre TV, media in general, and even reality has an obsession with whitewashing (pun unintended) IPV towards black people unless it’s specifically meant to degrade us and utilize racist stereotypes. Rarely ever does IPV towards queer black people get spoken about in real life, let alone in fiction. So for a story to just be for real for a hot minute about that topic is both disturbing and jaw dropping.
I oscillate between “I can’t believe they would ever put this on TV” and “I’m so glad that they made this a plotline because nobody talks about this,”. IPV perpetrated by white people towards their black partners especially from a historical context is not talked about. And it certainly is not the focus of period pieces or literature as often as it should be.
This is even being taken away from us TODAY in history books; centuries of rape and domestic violence from the slave trade to Jim Crow is being censored RIGHT NOW. This is not isolated behavior.
And to see white IWTV fans sidestep this entirely back during the final stretch of season one to complain that having Lestat (who canonically abused Louis in other ways) assault Louis somehow ruined LESTAT’S character and THEIR SHIP. While completely sidestepping what themes they were intending and got across (you know like genuine media literacy) and the onscreen brutalization that happened without warning is disgusting.
Being able to cherry pick quotes and argue about whether or not slapping is “DV” is not only gross but it’s just not media literacy. That’s literacy... like good job bestie you can read! But it’s certainly doesn’t mean you have the range or comprehension to understand the intended themes of Episode 5 at all. And until white people begin to understand the nuances of being a black person being abused by a white person who holds power over you, it’s going to continue being out of reach.
It’s one thing to dislike it’s inclusion, because I also agree. But I’ve noticed that The Great Lestat Discourse TM has become the discussion rather than the perspective of how white supremacy aided in perpetuating domestic violence and the choice to show gory and unflinching physical abuse without a trigger warning.
White fans being disingenuous and asking Louis to fade into the background until Lestat (the white character) becomes the focus for TVL. While constantly mocking and ignoring the concept of IPV towards black people makes the point for me as to why this was an interesting and purposeful direction to head in. IPV is so ignored that when IWTV includes it, fans went out of their way to argue whether or not their favorite white boy would DARE TO DO THIS, and not why the writers did this and what they were attempting to say. IPV and queer victims of abuse are so ignored that after this happened people started making posts talking about APOLOGIZING TO A FICTIONAL LESTAT for writers “slandering” him! Discussions about abuse in interracial relationships during Jim Crow are so far ignored that people started to publicly doubt that actual domestic violence in interracial relationships existed at all! So badly that the writers had to come out and say that they wouldn’t make Louis “not the victim” when recontextualizing episode 5.

what helped you figure out you were schizophrenic and not schizotypal?
Hey!!
So the short answer to this question is "nothing". I personally believe that I'm on the border between the two, and that another psychiatrist might have given me the label schizotypal rather than schizophrenic. I also think it could've depended on when I would've been assessed. When I was given the label of schizophrenia I wasn't doing great, but I also wasn't doing as poorly as I had been years prior.
So my official diagnosis is schizophrenia, and for a significant amount of time, I was heavily questioning this, feeling that schizotypal + ocd might be a better fit, or autism and psychosis or or or ...
So for me, what really made me stop my (frankly obsessive) years-long attempt to "properly categorize" myself was to realize that it doesn't really matter. In practice, calling it one thing or another doesn't change anything about my lived experience.
I never thought I was psychotic before I was slapped with the label, but knowing what I know now and looking back, I realize that I'm clearly, firmly schizo-spec, and experienced low-key psychosis most of the time with occasional worse episodes, for most of my life.
So if I'm directly asked "what's wrong with me" my response is "I'm diagnosed with schizophrenia and adhd", because that's the objective truth that I know. The exact validity of said diagnosis, as well as of diagnoses in general, is out of my hands. But it's descriptive enough of my general difficulties that it gets the point across. And by saying "I'm diagnosed with ..." rather than "I have ..." I get out of the internal obsession with somehow finding a way to describe something fairly nebulous in an exact manner.
So I didn't so much conclude that I have schizophrenia rather than schizotypal, as I accepted the fact that I'm diagnosed with schizophrenia, confirmed by at least two psychiatrists, and have no means to change the label now. And I found peace with this, as I realized that it honestly doesn't really matter, and I'm so firmly on the border between the two, that it's really just a matter of wording.

If you don’t mind I’m just gonna spill my guts about Fionna and Cake and how much it means to me, you’ve been warned lol.
Tumblr media
To say I’ve been wanting this show for years would be an understatement. I remember watching adventure time as a kid and seeing these guys on trailers for the brand new episode. I remember watching it when it aired on tv. I remember so desperately wanting to see more.
And then the episode with marshal came out. I thought it was the coolest thing ever and loved these interpretations of the characters. Also in general adventure time has inspired me creatively, and I know many artists share the same sentiment. I remember going to a book fair in middle school and immediately begging my mom for a comic with them. (I still have that comic and read it from time to time.) A couple years go by and it’s still my favorite part of adventure time, every time I rewatched a few episodes I found myself going back to these episodes specifically.
I thought it would always just be a wish I would never see get fulfilled. They were just gender-bends of the original characters, they already made adventure time what would be the point of just slapping a new coat of paint on it? Despite accepting my reality it is always something I hope for.
You could not imagine my excitement when I saw the promo for it on Twitter. A series of Fionna and Cake. A series of them. Characters I had loved since I was a kid.
The series had been out for at least a week before me and my partner had time to watch it, and it was as if all the problems I had been dealing with as a young adult were being displayed on screen. I knew I was already attached to these characters, but the beautiful story they had made out of everything got me even more attached. I cried so much, it was like seeing old childhood friends all grown up. It was an answer to problems I thought were hopeless. Without getting too personal my life would have been a whole lot worse if it wasn’t for this series.
I know it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and with media nobody truly gets the same message or idea. But if I could cram together all the beautiful answers and lessons this show gave me in, it’s that life isn’t perfect and it’s what you make of it. And I know that seems simply or corny, but many people seem to forget that life is not just about your successes or good moments, and if you constantly try to think otherwise you will just be more miserable.
You have every right to be miserable…but you also have every right to get better and try your best at a good life. It’s going to take work, but you will find people there for you, you just have to put your trust into it too. We are all in this together and we are constantly fighting, so why not make this battle a bit easier?
You’re doing great, whoever and where ever you are, just please…don’t give up, there’s a whole life you deserve to live.

ted lasso 3x02 thoughts
Listen, I think we can all agree that this episode could pretty much be titled ‘Trent Crimm: Return of the Crimm’. I’m not even a big tedpendent girl but this was definitely their time.
I loved seeing Trent back at Richmond! It’s going to be great having more of James Lance on the show: one thing I did think was that Trent had definitely lost a little bit of his customary swagger – he’s back at Richmond but he’s no longer dominating the press room, he’s very much now in the jock-dominated locker room where the Roy storyline made it clear that he no longer has that commanding power that he did in the world of journalism (James Lance’s headcanon that Trent got into sports journalism because his dad wanted him to be into football – Trent is both of that world and not of it - lives in my head rent-free), and the entire arc of this episode was a really interesting way of easing Trent into this scene.
Being a non-sports, non-celebrity, non-rich person, the one gripe I often have with Ted Lasso is it very much takes the rich celebrity jock-ish status of the team as given – of course the himbos are justified in being paid ludicrous sums of money, of course it’s funny and not unsettling that Jamie thinks of non-celebrities as ‘muggles’. So having Trent, who’ll be the first locker-room-regular to come from a more academic, working-a-regular-non-sports-job-background, will be an interesting dynamic switch.
Roy’s entire arc with Trent just stabbed me in the heart. I always knew there had to be more to the ‘you’re a colossal prick and you always have been’ line and now I feel so freaking vindicated. And whoever pointed out that Roy refused to carry on the cycle of condemning teenage players back in s2 as a pundit…argh.
AND HE CARRIED THAT REVIEW AROUND WITH HIM FOR TWENTY-ODD YEARS. (Apparently the British comedian Eric Morecambe did a similar thing: carrying an old bad review of his first television appearance with him for the rest of his life despite reaching unparalleled success in his heyday. *sniffles*)
The one thing that was slightly jarring about Trent’s return was it felt like everyone (except for Roy) was surprisingly chill about him being at Richmond, considering that he was the journalist who broke the story about Ted’s mental health problems (Keeley even mentions gunning for Trent in the S2 finale). Of course, Ted being Ted we can assume he did a lot of sticking up for Trent at the time, but this only turns us back again to the big, painful, heart-stomping elephant in the room…how much does the rest of the Richmond crew know about the leak? And if it does ever slip out, how exactly is that going to go down?
On that note, I was under the impression that we only had to suffer more of Rupert if we also got more delicious Nate angst and arcs into the bargain. The fact that this week we had Rupert’s gross manipulations and no Nate is just a slap in the face.
(Anthony Head remains so wonderfully evil though.)
Zava! I’ve been hypothesising about him since leaked pictures of the first West Ham match hit Twitter, and I’m really interested in seeing where he goes…though, I’ll be real, right now he strikes me as just a prick. And not even a dumb, amusing prick like s1 Jamie (who I knew I was going to have a grudging soft spot for back when he piped up about the snacks being shit), but just…a prick. We’ll see though. I’m also really looking forward to seeing Jamie’s reaction to Zava: if he doesn’t like sharing the spotlight with another ace, or if it’s seeing the primadonna beneath the glamour and not wanting Zava to hurt his team.
And speaking of Zava’s hire…Rebecca’s takedown of him was magnificent, and her ability to be dragged into dodgy business decisions just to one-up Rupert are being played for laughs right now…but let’s be real, this show always plays things for laughs before turning the tables on you. Which basically means: this is going to hurt like a motherfucker.
Also REBECCA WAS THE OTHER WOMAN?!?!? God, that adds so many layers to Sassy telling her she’d hurt people while with Rupert. I cannot wait to find out more about that, it’s already hurting my heart.
DANI SCORING A GOAL WITH HIS FACE. Also his puppy dog excitement about Zava, which I’m sure won’t come back to bite him in the arse later.
I love how Higgins is basically the Richmond equivalent of Varys – he has his contacts everywhere, and no secrets are secret from him.
Keeley and Barbara! Honestly, I’m quite here for where this is going – Barbara’s attitude in this ep unkind and, let’s be honest, pretty classist when it came to Shazza(? Keeley’s model friend?), but also you do need someone to be boring and sensible and check the numbers when it comes to running a business. I’m hoping they keep working together well.
And that moment when Keeley watched Roy come back to Chelsea *lip wobble*
Actually, that entire Chelsea return moment…
AND the knowledge that Roy left Chelsea and Keeley because he couldn’t bear to be left… That revelation hurt. Not even Ted batting his eyes cartoon-anime-style could take the sting out of that kick to the chest.
Jamie continuing to go from strength to strength by trying to comfort Roy (unsuccessfully) in this episode, in his own unique fashion. ‘Old people are jumpy because of the war’ was incredible.
Not nearly enough himbos in this episode, I’m sorry to say, but the scene where they react to Zava, Trent, and Roy breaking up with Keeley was a thing of absolute beauty. And Beard’s shriek at the news was both hilarious and justifiable.
I’m also fascinated by the choice to have the himbos identify the best tactic to fight back at the Chelsea match, rather than Ted – it’s the second time in so many episodes when someone else has stepped up to do something which would traditionally be Ted’s role, and I’m wondering if there’s a pattern here. (And if there is, how Ted – who’s clearly uncertain about his place at Richmond – will interpret that.)
God, I almost nearly forgot that this was the episode where we found out that Isaac is a student of kinesics (Renaissance man!) and apparently regularly checks out Roy’s arse. Here we were all thinking Colin would be confirmed queer this season…is McAdoo about to sneak in from under our noses?
Also the post-gym scenes made this the episode where I realised the Greyhounds are definitely sporting a somewhat more...athletic look this season. I may have to put together some s1 v s3 comparison pics to be sure about this. Stay tuned.

hi i feel the question must be asked - thoughts on the soundtrack and scoring from 13's era as compared to murray gold's work?
sigh... honestly? complicated. i have a lot of feelings and many of them are contradictory.
i'll start with this: it's one of my personal favorite things about thirteen's era, though admittedly the bar is low. i think segun akinola is an incredibly talented composer and when his music is good, it's GOOD. i loved all the times he played with the beginning and end credits to suit the episode, like in demons of the punjab and village of the angels, that kicked ass every time. i really appreciate what he brought to the show, i just wish.... hm. how do i put this. i wish his talents had been utilized better.
like. here's my absolute favorite song from the era. it's unbelievably great. it slaps so hard when played in the show AND when listened to in isolation.
and thirteen's full theme? one of the most gorgeous character themes i've ever heard, and it suits thirteen really well.
but a lot of the other stuff.... i just feel kind of meh about. i've listened to all of the scores all the way through in order to complete my ultimate doctor who playlist, and one thing i noticed is that there's a lot of songs on the album that just kind of feel like four separate songs stitched together with like 30 seconds of one droning note in between. at one point, i took notes on one of the songs to try and explain my feelings about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that was in regards to this song:
try listening to the song with my commentary if you get the chance, it's kind of the easiest way to see/hear what i mean in this post.
anyway here's an example of a song with very little of the silence that was boring bothering me so much:
"I'm Not Giving Up" is over 3 whole minutes shorter than "All Is Ending". can you guess how much silence there is in "All Is Ending"? (hint: if you guessed about three minutes and fifty-two seconds, you'd be correct.)
i listen to a lot of different orchestral music. i haven't run into any other composers who do this with full album releases, and it just kind of confuses me? i'm not a music theory person, so if there's some reason for this i wouldn't know it, but it makes some of these songs kind of suck to listen to in a playlist. if they were cut down into separate songs, i'd be far more enthusiastic.
the other thing i'm not crazy about are the character themes. the doctor, the master, the cybermen, and the daleks all have recognizable themes, and they're pretty good. except... imo all of them except the doctor's are massively overused. i don't think this is inherently akinola's fault, nor is it a problem exclusive to thirteen's era -- i seriously cannot listen to murray gold's "I Am The Doctor" anymore because of how much the show overused it, despite it being objectively a pretty great song.
but other than those four, did you know there are character themes for the companions? because i didn't until a couple weeks ago, and like i said, i've listened to all of these songs front to back with careful analysis AND seen all of these episodes at least twice each. i never picked up on these character leitmotifs 😭😭😭 i would say that that's on me for not perceiving them, except i know i'm not the only one. pretty much everyone i've talked to has been surprised to hear there are character themes. if you're curious, here's a youtube series exploring those themes and when they're used. it's a good, informative series with well made videos, but the whole time i was just kind of frustrated that i wasn't able to really pick up on these motifs. even now, i can't remember what yaz's leitmotif sounds like. i honestly have no idea, i would have to go back to the video and check. it just doesn't stick into my brain in the same way, say, donna's theme or bill's theme do.
furthermore, this is graham's theme. the whole thing. this is all of it.
Tumblr media
for comparison's sake, here's rose's theme.
Tumblr media
and if that's not the perfect microcosm of how these characters feel to me like. in terms of complex characterization and interesting arcs and feeling like real people. complex themes aren't always better, that's not what i'm saying -- more that the companions aren't really allowed to be important in the same way that they used to be.
graham's theme doesn't appear until episode four. and then doesn't reappear until the last two episodes of the series. meanwhile rose's theme is like. so recognizable from the very first note & it plays at crucial moments (first example off the top of my head is the ending of The End of the World). clara's theme is so recognizable that it can play in a scene that doesn't feature her at all After she left the show and yet in a way that completely evokes her presence. you couldn't do that with the thirteenth doctor's companion's themes, and even if you did, the audience uhhh. probably wouldn't notice!
i struggle to articulate my feelings about akinola's music, especially in comparison to gold's. gold's music is so important to me and i genuinely rank him among the best composers ever. i really, really like segun akinola... when he's allowed to make any noise. but most of the time with the sound mixing his music just fades to the background to the point of silence, forgotten entirely, and it's a shame.
tl;dr i dislike how akinola's songs are cut in the released albums, i think a lot of those songs needed to be cut down a little bit from the versions in the episode, and some of it probably could have stayed unreleased. i do wish his character themes were more recognizable, and i wish the ones that were recognizable weren't overused to the point of annoying me. i think he's a fantastically talented composer, and most of my problems with how his music on the show is used are not inherently his fault. i vastly prefer murray gold's music, but that's more a testament to how much i love murray gold than any amount of dislike of segun akinola. i'm excited both for gold's return to who and to see what akinola does next. if you prefer his music to gold's, i totally get you and i'm kissing you on the mouth. most of this is just personal preference!
sorry for how long this got. the doctor who soundtrack is, like, the ultimate autism topic for me. i'd love to talk more about it, feel free to send me asks or whatever anytime :3

Celebrity Crush || Interviews Day 1
Paring: Joseph Quinn x Original female costar
Word Count: 2134
Summary: It’s the first day of many for season 4 interviews
Warnings: cute interactions
A/N: For this I’ll be using my OFC in Trouble in Hawkins for this OFC to play her.
Last: Premiere | Next: Theories & More
Tumblr media
"Look who's last to show up." Maya says as I walk into the room. "There were some problems with the car." I take my seat between her and Natalia. "Presley is always last to show up." Joe says making me turn to look back at him, "I am not!" I slap his knee. "Sometimes..." Joseph adds making me turn the other way to look back at him. "You know what... I may be last but I'm still always on time. I've never been late." I turn back around to face the front. "That's a fair point." Natalia gives me a pass. Before the long interviews start, the five of us just sit on our phones bored.
Joseph: You just had to wear green pants too.
I look back at him and realized he was wearing green pants as well.
Presley: I look better.
I send him the text and he lets out a chuckle before we're told it's time to get ready. The first question was about Maya and Natalia working together since last season they had no scenes of them together really. "Joe, Steve's storyline in the first few episodes is about him trying to figure out his own love life. I'm curious what you think Steve needs?" The guys asks him so I look back some to look at him. "A swift kick in the butt." He says making us laugh. "He literally has the perfect girl in front of him and he messed it up and needs to fix it." He answers. He then asks Joseph what was it like jumping into the show and he tells him it was great because he felt comfortable with us. "What can you guys tell me about the big bad this season, Vecna?" The asks us. "Sexy." Maya says making me cover my mouth from laughing too loud. "He's not good." Joe adds. "Cruel with how he kills." I add and the others agree.
We have a few minutes before the next person so I get a drink of water. "I think I actually pull off the green pants better." Joseph walks up beside me. "What makes you think that though?" I tilt my head looking at him. "People can actually see my pants on camera not you. So that means I look better." He gives me a smile. "It doesn't work that way." We go back to our seats for the next interview. "Who always nails it in the first take?" The man asks us. "Priah, Gaten and Presley." They all say so I agree with them. "Who is the last one to always leave their trailer?" I point back again the Joe's. "Wig and something else." I say and they agree. "Oh right, yeah." Joe nods his head. Slowly I start to zone out but still listen to the man just nodding my head. "Yeah, we do laugh a lot." I agree with Maya. "Presley, usually starts the fun with Gaten." Joe adds.
The next lady asks on a scale 1-10 how scary the show was and how dark it got. "It was so fun seeing the friendship between Steve and Skylar, then last season the both of them with Robin. Now this season we get Robin and Nancy and Eddie and Skylar." She goes on about the girls being together and not about Sky and Eddie once so I speak up. "I'd like to add I like how the brothers give the viewers some knowledge of that Eddie and Sky already being sort of distant friends so their friendship being close this season wasn't too random." I speak up looking back at Joseph. "Yeah, that knowledge for us made us working together easier." Joseph nods his head.
"I actually really love the chemistry between Eddie and Skylar... If you guys were a viewer watching the show who would you pick Skylar to be with?" She asks us. "Wow, that's a tough one... if I was a viewer, I'd probably pick Steve. Only because we've seen their relationship change and grow throughout the last three seasons." Natalia looks at the three of us. "That's true. From the whole enemies to friends to lovers trope." Maya agrees. "Steve, because they've been through a lot. He just needs to man up and fix their relationship. As a viewer you can tell they love each other." Joe answers. "As a viewer Steve but being biased I say Eddie." Joseph laughs. "Great, it's my turn now..." I laugh thinking about it, "I would say I don't care." I answer truthfully. "Really?" The lady asks. "I say that because I see she has chemistry with both. Yeah, there's more history with Steve but one; he cheated on her. Two; he's taking his time trying to fix his mistake and their relationship. With Steve taking his time it lets there be more time where Sky and Eddie think about their feelings for each other. So I don't care because she's good with both."
"Presley, how was it for you playing a character who has boy problems?" The next lady laughs. "Weird because I never have that problem. I've never had so many guys like me one after another." I laugh. "Wait, are you saying guys don't find you attractive?" Joe asks shocked. "My whole like I grew up as the ugly friend and people reminded me daily." I nod my head. "Bet they take it back now." Joseph says making me laugh, "One did apologize." I tell him. She asks if we had all the power and control what would we manifest for our character. "Maya I feel like you would have a great answer for that." Joe puts the spot light on her. "I think I would like to umm, have a powerful love story with Nancy Wheeler but she chooses Jonathan instead of me. Also I die sacrificing myself to the monster just for trauma to being Steve and Skylar back together." She answers the questions. "That's exactly what I was gonna say." Joe jokes. "I'd say for everyone just to have a ending they deserve. Eddie goes through stuff and I feel sorry for the dude. Robin needs to find love, Nancy needs to realize she doesn't need a man, Steve and Skylar need to become best friends again." I answer.
It felt like the interviews got longer and long as time with on because I was getting so tired. "Whose performance blew you away this season?" We're asked. "My baby Sadie Sink and then I'd say this lovely man to behind me to my left." I turn towards Joseph patting his knee." I say happy with my answer. Who has the best taste in music was next. "Me. Because I'm offended when people don't like my music." I laugh. "I think I am sitting with three people who have very distinct very good taste in music." Natalia says then gives me a smile. "I'm joking it's four. Presley listens to like everything so you never know what you get when she shuffles music." She says and the others agree.
"Would you rather rent a movie, play D&D, or hit the roller rink?" We're asked. "Rent a movie. I suck at D&D and I can't roller-skate." I answer. "Your asking a room full of actors if whether or not we're watching a movie or do anything else. I think the answers probably watch movies." Maya answer. "What 80's movie would you rent?" The next question is asked. "Either The Labyrinth or Lost Boys." I smile then Joseph says any by John. "Who makes you laugh the most on set?" He asks us. "We have a lot of laughs in set. That's the best part about this show. That's pretty much all we do." Joe says. "It's very true but picking a person I pick Gaten." I laugh.
Finally when we were done we clap our hands because sitting in these chairs were hell. "I'm starving." I get up stretching my arms. "Do you wanna go out for lunch?" Joseph walks up beside me. "Do I wanna go out for lunch? Like with you?" I ask turning to face him. "Or you can go have it alone. Whatever you prefer." He says with a smile making me laugh. "Do you have anything in mind?" I ask as I get my things together. "Not really. Do you?" He asks as I put my bag over my shoulder. "Anyplace with breadsticks. I really want some breadsticks." I let him know. "I think we can find place with breadsticks for you.” He chuckles. “Yes.” I clap my hands excited.
We find a place to eat at before we leave then go in our separate cars. “Table for two, please.” I tell the hostess and they take us to a table. “You were determined to talk about Skylar and Eddie earlier during that one interviewer.” Joseph speaks as we look through the menu. “Because I didn’t want you left out. She brought it up but only talked to Maya and Natalia. Why bring up our characters if you’re not going to talk to us about them.” I tell him and he just nods his head with a slight smile. As soon as the breadsticks hit the table a huge grin spreads across my face. “Come to mama.” I reach for one as see Joseph laughing at me. “What?” I ask with a slight frown confused.
“Come to mama and your smile… it’s cute since it’s for breadsticks.” He takes one himself. “Because I love them. Especially the ones with mozzarella cheese in them. Mmm, I love them.” I think about them. “Are you looking forward to sitting in a chair for hours tomorrow again?” He asks as we wait for our food. “I just hope they don’t ask the same questions over and over. It’s so tiring. Then it sucks when people catch on and realize you’re annoyed of the same question because your answer gets flatter and flatter.” I explain with a sigh. “Then they get mad at you for seeming rude when you’re just tried if repeating yourself.” He says making nod my head agreeing.
As we eat we and the restaurant got slightly more crowed a few people started to recognize us but we ignored them. “Oh, back to the topic on interviews tomorrow… what do you plan on wearing so we don’t match. I have to make sure I look better than you.” I joke with him. “Maybe tan colors. I don’t know yet.” He makes a face laughing. “So boring got.” I laugh at him. “What all are you doing tomorrow?” He asks. “I have a friendship test with Sadie, theories and the rest of the interviews with y’all. Then the following day I have a wired autocomplete by myself along with my first. Sadie is doing those tomorrow, I believe. Along with Noah and Gaten for the wired autocomplete.” I give him the run down.
“You’re a very busy person.” He says as we finish up. “I’m not normally. Since the second season that’s when my schedule slowly got longer. Us older ones are never as busy as the kids since the show is mainly about them. Makes me happy I’m not their age.” I laugh then pay for both of our meals. “I could have paid for mine. You didn’t have to do that. Plus I asked if you want to come have lunch.” Joseph gives me a look. “But it was my idea to come eat so that’s why I paid. And I’m just being a good person.” We stand up from our table. “Next time we eat… I’m paying, got that.” He points his finger at me so I laugh at him. “Fine, you can pay next time we have lunch together.” I say as we go outside to our rides. “See you tomorrow at work.” He waves goodbye to me.
As I get into the vehicle I get a text from a friend saying a fan posted a picture of Joseph and I eating and now people think we were on a date. “God. Can two people of the opposite sex not have lunch together without people thinking their on a date?” I ask out loud. “Everyday people can but when you’re a celebrity no. The public will automatically assume things.” My driver speaks up making me look up at him. “I didn’t ask for you input James.” I say with a chuckle. “You spoke out loud Miss Presley. In a form of a question, might I add.” He now chuckles looking at me from the mirror. “Fine, you win.” I put my hands up. “That’s what now? Six to five?” I roll my eyes at him. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. You’re ahead by one point.”

Juwon pausing before adding 요 at the end of his sentence like bro you are forgetting your respect conjugation
oh shit juwon not looking good for you is it.
"Given his nature, there is no way he [Juwon] would get involved in a crime" HYEOK YOU DONT EVEN KNOW-

tv show recs:
something 2015ish (means 22 episodes, 40ish min log) -> limitless tv show (continuation of the movie), kind of white, mc is manic pixie dreamboy but he wears the coolest sweaters, fun times. i would take that drug.
if you are good with horror and have not watched mike flanagan's stuff id rec it. if you are not good w horror i would still rec haunting of hill house because it is heartwrenchingly beautiful. but ya it has scary points.
i watched mrs davis recently and the tv show is bonkers, but episode 9 pays off bcs the reveal is great. perfect if you are like a person who has worked with code and programming. also there is jesus there and he lowkey hot.
fisk on netflix (australian and funny af)
succession (my top 3 ever) if you havent seen it - billionaires are horrible people but the dialogue slaps. no but fr this show is so high in quality
love death robots
mindhunter (fincher is cool, interesting topic, leaves you wanting more imo)... also about serial killing and all so if u dont like that oops
DIRK GENTLY HOLLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY (forget everything else, give this a shot, but like just... it's a tumblr insane show)
anne with an e - perfect for fall vibes! also anne would have had a tumblr
if you like animated stuff i enjoyed final space so much, it's a cute lil animated series
also archer, which is less cute and more satirical
the boys and gen v on prime are fun (if violent and gory)
the white lotus - again horrible rich people, some karma
or go with an old classic: buffy the vampire slayer (though that has a lot of seasons)
omg omg so many suggestions, thank you!!! i obviously must answer them point by point haha
i did not know there was a limitless tv show haha. would also 100% take that pill PLSSSS i would be unstoppable
i asked for tv shows because i just spend weeks binging all the mike flannagan shows haha. i really likes hill house but i don't think anything is going to top midnight mass for me (which was my first flannagan that i watched last year!)
oh i'd never heard of mrs davis but it sounds cool!
same with fisk
i have seen literally everyone and their mother talk about succession and how good it is but i'm just a bit scared that it would end up being overhyped haha. regardless, it's on my list so thanks for reminding me of that
love death robots <333 i love that show!!
same for mindhunter!!! i will not forgive david fincher for abandoning it like how dare he (me when i abandon fics)
oh oh, a while ago i worked on a book based on dirk gently an the author hyped it so much that i ended up watching it haha
anne with an e <33
not super into animated stuff unfortunately!!
and i have never heard of the rest of them except the white lotus
LOVEDDDD white lotus, can't wait for s3. justice for jennifer coolidge

Rewatching from season 4
Turns out it's the Buck Begins' season (how appropriate) and
How I HATE his parents ("You have to know, we never blame you" HE HAS TO KNOW ??? Let me hit them with a shovel PLEASE). They are all nice and open now but I hate them even more for that. In season 6 they made a 180° turn, like nothing happened, with Buck and Maddie (my poor Maddie). They deserved at least a harsh slap, they deserved a way meaner treatment. What is it with the Madney family and wanting to introduce to your kid your shitty parents that gave you trauma so she can have "a normal family" ? You mean a family with history of neglect and emotional abuse ? She doesn't need grandparents like that. Sometimes nothing is better. CUT TIES WITH EMOTIONALLY ABUSIVE PARENTS. DO IT. and do like Buck, go see a psychologist. Otherwise they will keep eating at you even after their death. It's like poison.
Damn I love the 118 family. When they all come into frame to help Buck in the fire. Ouch my feelings (with So Far playing in the back, double Ouch)
So much Buddie in those first episodes, unparasited by poitnless love interests (I'm not talking about Tommy), at least until episode 6. Now that my hope is rekindled I fear the disappointment.
Next episode Bobby goes "Hey" at the fake firefighter, the guy runs away and IMMEDIATELY Buck goes "I got it" and start running after the guy, yelling "Hey, I just wanna talk" while the guy tries to escape him. Peak golden Retriever moment. I love him.
That probably makes me a bad person but I'm living for the scene where Buck tells Chris Eddie got shot (a+ acting) and how Buck is barely holding it together, crying while trying to stay strong for Chris and then breaking down once he gets the news Eddie is gonna be fine. He was so scared and is so relieved. And he makes, once again, a GREAT parent. (Also Athena holding that riffle is.... 🤌🏻)
And then Buck does that heroic but reckless crane rescue, being maybe a tiny tiny bit suicidal cause Eddie got shot and it should be him instead, and he is happy about the rescue but then his eyes meet Bobby's and oh nooo, Dad is pissed. I adore the Buck-Bobby dynamic. One had SHITTY parents, the other lost his children, but now here they are having that father-son bound. Those relationship between the characters in the heart of the show and why I keep watching even when all those accidents and calls starts to stress me or make me paranoid.
For MONTHS Eddie was walking around, knowing he wrote Buck into his will like "yeah if I die that man will take care of my son" LIKE BRO. He trusts him with his life but, stronger than that, he trusts him with his son's. And then Eddie gets shot, standing in front of Buck. He doesn't remember anything after hitting the ground but I wonder if he thought about that, about his son and if he was relieved to think Buck would be there for his kid. DUDE. And Buck tells him it would have been better if he was shot instead of Eddie, like he doesn't matter. Buck, who feels worthless unless he is a firefighter, who felt unwanted, is who Eddie choose to look after his son if he dies, the one Eddie is ready to entrust his son's life and happiness to. And Eddie sees him thinking so little of himself. And he is freaking wrong. Pretty much all the 118 fam at some point must have wanted to shake Buck to make him understands he matters A LOT to them. But Buck doesn't believe that yet because of his AWFUL parents. Dang.

PART IV of my super long aotd thoughts (and prayers) commentary/analysis extravanganza🤪
warning: spoilers. repetition of words/expressions hehe. badly written (english is not my first language lol). looong text. curse words. biased opinions because this is my blog and i get to do with it as i please.
previously: part I | part II | part III
this is the last part!!!
smacking fiesta!: they made a fire for Murderface awww my fucking HEART. i love that this movie insists on making a point that people should take responsibility but not victimize themselves. case in point: yes Nathan fucked up when he wrote the wrong song (tho again, that was actually part of the prophecy) because he decided to surrender to hatred, sadness and overall give up on his responsibilities. it’s great to see him take the blame(?) however yeah, Pickles did good at reminding him that this is no time for him to drown in self-pity and doubt himself. making a mistake is NOT equal to being an incapable person. Nathan should not doubt his own skills, quite the opposite, this is the time for him to believe in himself, trust his bandmates and push forward. also yes after season 4 and a portion of this movie, i admit it’s cool to see Pickles taking out his stress on Nathan lmao. on the other hand WOW??? why does Nathan Explosion fall from a slap, that must’ve a hell of a smack. the little “quit hitting me :(“ was cute aksjdhas. Murderface feeling better and thanking the guys is so precios he’s so baby in this scene. and i love that this is actually not the first time Skwistokface have felt weird when Pickles and Nathan fight like a married couple (throwback to Writersklok) and that’s so CUTE. he says “should we get going?” to the guitarists while Pickles does a shock therapy on Nathan or something and ugh they’re such a family. i again absolutely love that Magnus is in the notebook. it means so much to me that Nathan straight up says he’d want for Magnus to come back, somehow, so they could fix their friendship. it makes the suicide so much more tragic and it made me very sad but that makes the message much more powerful. forgiving and apologizing, taking responsability and knowing your own worth are central to the message of the movie and i really really like it. someone pointed out thath “i’m just a gear in the wheel of the clock” is the very first line of mtl and i’m happy Brendon brought it back to close this story. and for fans like me, that spent over a decade loving this show is beautiful to hear this once again while Nathan Explosion himself discovers the true meaning of it.
mommy on the wheel: ok yeah i love Pickles bla bla bla i think he’s very very cool in this scene. Pickles is my favorite, Rehabklok and Skyhunter are one of my favorite episodes/songs so seeing him drive again WHILE SOBER is so so important to me you don’t even know. and yes the line “Toki be a good boy and bring mommy his scotch” rearranged the chemicals in my brain tysm Brendon Small, i’m officially insane.
plugging-in: YES EDGAR JOMFRU SWEEP!!! i’m sooo happy he’s back and is central to this section of the movie. he’s a very important character so i’m happy we get to see him interact with Dethklok in such a cool sequence and i’m also thankful that he threw a sandwich to Crozier. it was deserved. the plug-in sequence is very cool visually AND thematically, seeing the guys fly and be at the center of such a complicated operation is cool, i’m a fan. we also get more exposition, i LOVE that only here the guys Finally remember the dethlights and start to comprehend their place in the prophecy. i’d love more of this (dethklok realizing the true reach of their powers) because it’s a very short scene, but well, you can’t have it all. when Nathan slips and falls off the wing(?) and Pickles screams “Oh no, Nathan!” yeah, Nickles wins once again. usually i’m not a fan of scenes where the characters start giving a speech in the middle of an action scene but it’s cool here. for all we know Nathan must be constantly thinking he will die at any time so it’s valid for him to want to get sincere and cheesy. also yes it’s so so important for me (and for Pickles) when Nathan finally confesses to have never had anything with Abigail. i like that he was honest and vulnerable not because of himself but because the others deserved to know. he also recognizes it wouldn’t have been right and that’s some good shit. the entire message to Abigail, “wherever you are in this world (…)” was so heartwarming. i do think Nathan and Abigail could have been a great couple (especifically after Nathan’s character development, not before) and this line is the basis of that. he realizes that showing appreciation is not limited to fucking someone and then jump to a relationship. he respects her and that will stay that way even if they never connect on a romantic level, and i adore that. on a personal note: as an aro, this scene made me cry. Nathan recognizing how much someone can mean to you and at the same time letting them go/not ending up with them is a message i can connect with to a personal level. wanting them to be happy as you are ready to part ways and focus on yourself (when Nathan says “i’ll grow stronger”) is a beautiful message. AND (yes sorry this section is practically me projectiong and making everything personal) THE LINE “because i’ll always have my relationship with music” IS ALSO SO IMPORTANT TO MEEE. i too sometimes feel like i can connect more with music than with people and to hear Nathan Explosion say that made me feel so validated, so accompanied.
gay elevator: EVERYONE say thank you Edgar for bringing back Toki’s teddy bear. say it or else. if your homie grabs your shoulder, looks into your eyes and calls you mommy, that’s a flirting i’m sorry i don’t make the rules. and i don’t care what anyone says “i’ll see you on stage” is code for “i love you so so much” case CLOSED. “this one’s for Knubbler” HELL YEAH IT IS !!! wasted opportunity to give them the armor in this scene oh well. wasted opportunity to have Toki speak in norwegian here or something since they are in Norway but ok. SOS being both a distress signal to the fans and an acronym for Song Of Salvation is GENIUS. Crozier+Edgar was not in my bingo cards but oh boy i am so happy to see it.
fuck you and your beard old man: Nathan Explosion is the man of my dreams. he’s so fearless and so smart and so so beautiful i will kill a god for him i don’t care. also yeah fuck you Salacia don’t talk to him like that. Toki a kombucha is not a meal please ajsdhkajshd. Pickles ordering for Nathan is so CUTE !!! those are soulmates right there UGHHH. and Pickles looking at him so fondly while Nathan ponders the idea of marrying his drummer right then and there??? wow THAT’S just…wow. i keep winning. when Nathan tells them “i think we’re going to die” and their reactions it was both hilarious and sad. they really are just some: dudes. they’ve faced dead before but here they are, freaking out in a jail cell together. i love them so much FUCK. missed opportunity for another band hug. dethklok in handcuffs walking in the snow is a great visual hear me out. also dethklok crucified in a spinning death-disk is such an amazing concept too. Nathan repeating The Gears to himself is so IMPORTANT TO MEEE. watch me doing the same everytime i have to face an important decision/task. the people with the masks look hella cool too. Nathan has the biggest brain ever! and he’s so so brave and strong i LOVE HIM !!! i love how he sacrificed himself mirroring the countless klokateers’ deaths throughout the show: ready to serve a bigger purpose. Pickles touching his face and turning to see the guys with a worried look is UGH. Edgar Jomfru will be missed, he was such a badass and he singlehandedly did so much for dethklok and humanity. Skwisgaar putting his hand on a distressed Toki saved my life yup yup.
Salacia is a dorito: fuckkk stop killing the fans dude. THE DETHLIGHTS!!! now that’s an epic meet and greet with your favorite band. GO INTO THE WATER SONG OF THE CENTURYYY and my favorite song to listen at the beach. the WHALE IS BACKKK!!! i’m so happy with that ending, the fact that dethklok, as powerful as they are, were NOT gods after all and were only there to help the whale is a concept i’ll never get over. so so so damn cool. we get to see how fucked up it is for the boys when the powers leave them and it’s so uncool and unglamorous i can help but love it!!! Skwisgaar my man i love him so much he really has been in Toki’s arms for ¾ of this movie he’s living the dream. and yesss that teddy bear is stronger than Salacia, we love an immortal legend. the ending sequence is cute. is short and very cheesy but i love it. it’s a love letter for the fans in universe and irl. i am so so happy. WE are the army of the doomstar. i love that when Nathan starts speaking with his heart he CAN’T STOP. he’s so sweet i love him. and CHARLES LOOKS SO GOOD IN THAT LAST SHOT I WANT TO LOOK AFTER HIM AND CURE HIS WOUNDS AND KISS HIS FOREHEAD. and yup the movie is over and i’m hyperventilating and shakingand crying.
I love this movie so much it makes me look insane. but yeah. this is the end of my super long aotd extravaganza. thank you so so much for reading to the very end. sorry this took so long. kisses on the forehead for everyone who saw this movie and enjoyed it as much as i did. take care and have a great day. bye bye!

‘The Southern Raiders’
I think in a way Azula's mental deterioration is already clearly showing in this episode. Her attack on the air temple is an indication that she's not herself. She's employing aggressive strategy trying to overwhelm the opposition with brute force, and Azula is normally far too subtle for that. Her demeanor has changed as well. Zuko's betrayal and Ozai's displeasure have been magnified by Ty Lee and Mai's betrayal, and Azula knows that Ozai will be angry at her for the Boiling Rock as well. There's a touch of desperation in Azula's tactics here.
I think the fight between Azula and Zuko is much closer not just because of Zuko's magical dragon power-up, but I think Azula is fighting quite wild and uncontrolled here.
Zuko's comments as Azula falls are a bit odd, because he sounds worried when it looks like she's going to fall to her death, but he then sounds bitter when she survives. Toxic siblings, what can you do.
In the Boiling Rock episode I remarked that Katara was a little kinder when teasing Zuko, and also Zuko helped to bring back Hakoda, so... surely Katara should have warmed up more towards Zuko? So what happened here? My explanation is that seeing everyone else cheering at Zuko and celebrating him as a hero, made Katara just feel very irritated - but maybe also a little bit with herself - that she just can't get over this very personal betrayal even if Zuko by now has proven himself. Her words to Zuko - 'I was the first who trusted you' and 'you betrayed me' show how personally she is taking this.
I think @juniperhillpatient did an amazing job dissecting the conversation between Sokka, Zuko, Katara and Aang, and I literally have nothing to add there. I do strongly object to Aang throwing Jet's name around like a pejorative, like I'm sorry, but are we just going to ignore that Jet was making an earnest effort to change his life and make amends when he got KILLED? 30 Jerk Points to Aang. Also, Aang acting all upset and outraged about Katara trying to take Appa anyway... cry some more kid, it's not like everyone else isn't taking Appa whenever they feel like. Sokka was about to take Appa to the Boiling Rock. 30 more Jerk Points to Aang. Also, I feel like nothing about that scene earned Sokka's comment about how wise Aang was being.
Katara is a scary force of nature during this mission. Her entire aesthetic during this stealth mission is putting weird AU Assassin Katara ideas in my mind. She is just frighteningly driven. I think the dark circles under her eyes as she tells Zuko not to worry about her was a great touch. Like or don't like Zutara romantically, Zuko and Katara make for a terrifying team. (of course, I will say Azula and Katara make for an even better one)
Zuko's face when Katara used bloodbending on the Southern Raider commander... it's the look of a man who realizes that he has been is far greater mortar peril than he ever realized. :)
In a way, leaving Yon Rha to his miserable existence is, I think, a fitting enough punishment. It's almost remarkable the Yon Rha didn't croak from fear when facing Katara. Still, even if I'm happy Katara doesn't have Yon Rha's blood on her hands, it's not going to stop me from slapping Yon Rha with a crazy amount of Jerk Points. 400 seems appropriate.
I do love the ending. Aang failed to understand Katara earlier, and he failed to understand her here that not killing Yon Rha didn't mean that Katara forgave him, and... why would she. Anyway, perhaps my favorite Katara episode and one of the best episodes of the entire show.
Lastly, here are the updated Jerk Point standings for Book 3, and I'll see you soon for 'Ember Island Sex Offenders'!
Zuko - 700 Yon Rha - 400 Aang – 340  Ozai - 250 Sokka - 110 Roku - 100 Hide - 80 King Kuei - 60 Toph - 50 Haru - 30

So I have THOUGHTS (not bad ones, just 'hmmm interesting') about Mat's story in the finale. Book spoilers be ahead!!
So I've seen a lot of discussion about the holes in Mat's memories and what that means for how the show is changing that aspect of the books up. So in the books, the dagger eats holes in Mat's brain and he can't remember a lot of his life - like, his real, this incarnation life. So when in Rhuidean, he goes through the second stone archway and asks for the holes in his memory to be filled and the delightful Eelfinn oblige.
HOWEVER! This is something I think people talking about the tea from episode 7 are mis-remembering: those memories the Eelfinn give Mat are canonically NOT of Mat's past lives!! The tea seemed much more akin to the flicker-verse in book 2 when they use the portal stone - but even that isn't a direct translation as the portal stone shows you alternative paths in THIS lifetime, not your past lives.
And coming back to the Eelfinn - Mat distinctly remembers being on BOTH sides of a battlefield at one point. So two memories taking place at the same time - ergo, these are not his own past life's memories. It's theorized in later books that maybe these are memories the Eelfinn or Aelfinn have taken from various visitors to their realms over the years that the person traded away for some benefit or another and they just slapped them into Mat's brain - focusing on the ones from great generals over the centuries.
He doesn't remember the entire life, just parts of them - he remembers random dances, battles, and subconsciously knows the Old Tongue now.
I can see him still going through the archways (I really do hope they keep that in the show, maybe just giving him his prophesies for the future from Tear and his ashandarei, hanging scar, and medallion in Rhuidean) and just leave out the memory bit.
It actually works a bit better for me the way the show might have done his battle memories: I read his scene with the Heroes of the Horn as him remembering our Mat from the books as they indicated at the end that he'd done enough to become bound to the horn if he so chose. It's been theorized who book Mat was a reincarnation of, though never confirmed (to my knowledge), one of the most popular theories I think being King Aemon, last king of Manetheren and I think that would totally fit: Mat's past lives are of generals who perhaps struggled against the Dark, but eventually all held to the Light.
Having the blowing of the Horn give you your past lives' memories makes a lot of sense to me. Maybe he only temporarily got them, though since he's tied to the horn and so couldn't be 'called forth' since he was already there, they decided to give him his memories like the rest of them have to aid in battle and then they'll dissipate with the Heroes. We shall see.
But yeah, totally loved Mat's Horn blowing moment though shame on me for not realizing what he was saying in the Old Tongue!!!! I thought it was just a generic battle cry like he does in the early books and not a single brain cell in my skull recognized the words he was saying even thought I say them to myself VERY FREQUENTLY and want them TATTOOED UPON MY BODY!!!! Seriously, I have no idea how I missed registering what he was shouting - though it did seem an odd place to say it as "it's time to toss the dice" isn't really a regular thing to shout in battle, you need a bit more of Mat's story to understand why he'd say that - but if we're going with the reading that show!Mat has just remembered book!Mat's life, it makes sense that he'd pull out his old battle cry. Anyways, done ranting about how frustrating it was that I missed the most iconic of iconic wot sayings the first time around.
show!Mat: I love you. I like this possible iteration of his battle memories. Good soup. I would like more, please.

What do you think of All Stars and how the writers handled the characters?
Now, I don’t know how much of a hot-take this is, but I don’t find All Stars that uniquely bad, at least for Total Drama. Unjust eliminations and lost potential? I’m a Noah stan who had to watch I See London, and then see Blaineley take his place. Villain that nobody votes out despite the obvious? I’ve watched Heather dodge elimination after elimination in Island and World Tour alike. Random evil mental disorder? That’s just Trent in Action, baby. All Stars is more of the same bad writing, just cranked up a little higher and all at once. But it’s still the same bad writing. Tho, I may be a little biased here. Not because I like All Stars, I don’t - but I knew how bad it was before I watched it. I had seen the rants about every major plot point before I watched a single episode. So I never had hopes for the thing. Perhaps that explains my detachment during viewing. And I'm gonna be honest - I *don’t* have strong feelings on most gen 1 characters, so it’s hard for me to work up the passion about their character derailment.
But if you still want my specific thoughts on each character:
Courtney: As one of the few gen 1 characters I do care about, I should probably be more mad about Suddy Muddy Sundae then I actually am. But uhhh. I actually like it when Courtney is evil and mean, lol. So the idea of her betraying a close friend? That’s funky, that’s cool - in isolation, that is. In the context of the show, it doesn’t really work. There’s no foreshadowing to the twist, there’s no gradual darkening of her character. It’s just “And Now Courtney does something Evil.” Great. My condolences to anyone who watched this show blind and thought they were getting a character development arc. Probably felt like a slap in the face. But out of context, the idea isn’t that bad.
It's like that Game of Thrones thing, with Daenarys going evil. Could it believably happen? Sure. But should it have happened so fast? NO.
Gwen: ... Ehh. I think this season was trying to redeem her from WT. That's why she's trying so hard to apologize, that’s why Gwuncan breaks up. And that’s why Gwen says "he wasn't your boyfriend.” I don’t think she was trying to lie, but that the writers wanted us to genuinely believe that, retcon style. But overall, she was fine. A little weird, because WHY is she trying so hard to makeup to Courtney, the girl she was barely friends with? WHY would she ever go back to Total Drama, the show that she hates being on, just for the girl that wasn’t even that good to her in the first place? That’s weird. But “character derailment,” is a lot easier to swallow when it makes the character a nicer person, isn’t it? Also the joke in the beginning where she's the only villain character trying to be sincere and help the team is pretty funny.
Aleheather: I’m grouping them together because they’re very similar people. Evil, conniving villain that no-one really trusts because they’ve seen it all before. They do both get more stupid in AS (why would Heather just leave the victory idol? and why does Alejandro not like... do more with the Mal plotline). But they’re still funny in their own rights. But as a ship, they were disappointing. I think that's because the writers did not know what to do with them after they got together. Which tbf, isn't just a TD problem. A lot of stories end when the characters get together. The romantic plotline is fulfilled. So what are you supposed to do in the sequel, when the Will-They/Won't-They is done? What now? TD's answer was just to pretend that their romantic arc WASN’T finished. So now they're back to hate-flirting, in the exact same way they did in WT. I think a person who cared more about Aleheather (@tdsierra) would probably have a lot more to say about the ship in All Stars, that might even contradict what I say here. But this is all I have to say on them.
Duncan: I don't hate him in AS. I think the whole "no one can know im a nice person," although exaggerated in AS, is true to Duncan as a character. He always had a masculinity so fragile a tap-dancing ant could break it. So whatever, I guess. Probably didn’t help that the girlfriends who used to boost his ego - Courtney and Gwen, left him behind. Tbh, he might be the best written character on All Stars. His ending of blowing up Chris’s house and going to jail does feel odd though. It’s such a sad end to his character. In TDI he was growing to open up, but in AS he’s so defensive that he ends up in jail. I don’t think it’s a bad ending persay, that he regressed. But it’s definitely sad to see. Also the bird he was friends with was ridiculously cute. I love that bird.
Sierra: Gonna be honest, although she is very different in AS - (in a like, psychosis way, when she never had them before) I don't know if I'd call it "character derailment," that she’s still obssessed with Cody and still a creep. Because honestly, I don’t think she ever stopped being one. We’ve never seen her acknowledge her actions as wrong, nor has she apologized/promised to do better. Even in the episode in WT where she accepts being Cody's best friend, she also tries to kiss him again. Perhaps this is the true hot take - Sierra never underwent character development in the first place. I also don't understand why she's on the Hero's team. Was it *heroic* when she stole Cody's underwear? Was it? Did the writers just put her there so as to even the numbers? Or did they buy into the idea that Sierra is a good person, despite being a stalker, because stalkers act out of “love,” and she always just wanted to “protect him.” And therefore, she’s a hero. But perhaps it’s just that she’s not a standard villain. All TD villains are in it for the money and have master-ish plans, while Sierra... does not. I guess that’s close enough to being a hero for AS team designations. Anyway, Sierra should have been cut from AS all together. Nothing here adds to her character, she didn’t belong on the heroes team. [However, if they put her on the villains team and she had to grapple with the idea that her actions were evil and terrible and learn from that... honestly could have been a baller redemption arc.]
Lindsay: Whatever. She was there for one episode, what do you want me to say? Lol. I guess I could say that I don't think she was "character derailed" (she has voted for herself before, and has been bad at voting, so I don’t think it’s OOC for her to vote for herself.
SECOND GEN
Sam - I agree he should have been replaced with Brick. He doesn’t have anything to do this season. It is touching that he wants to be a mutant to be with his mutant gf though.
Jo - they did her such a disservice im crying thats my girl!!!! like she was such a cool character who had obvious development that needed to happen, and then they just chose not to. It's so weird. Especially when Cameron is on the show, and there's already a history between them. They could work smth out! Or not, but still. And if Brick was indeed on the show - that's another avenue for development! I love Jo, and she was still funny on AS but... they should have taken the chance to flesh her out. But they didn’t.
Honestly, the 2nd gen characters deserved more focus. And I'm not talking about Mike and Zoey, but Lightning and Jo. 1st gen had 3 whole seasons already to flex, but 2nd gen had only one shortened season. As such, maybe focusing on them would have been better.
Lightning: Man also deserved better. He was very funny though. But still.
Scott: This one's weird, because AS Scott is funny, but he is also a completely different person from ROTI Scott. I don't know what I would change about AS Scott, other than make him more like ROTI Scott. Also maybe he and Cameron could have teamed up to expose Mal, considering Scott also has experience with Mike's Alters.
Cameron: why did they make you so stupid. and why was he not able to expose Mal earlier? why? i did like the scene where he used Scott as bait for Fang tho. That was really funny. And I always wished Cameron had ended up as the Villain of ROTI, so it was gratifying.
Mike - ugh. Using his DID as his only plot point was bad enough in ROTI, but to also use it as the main plot of AS? Really guys. Read the room. Also, they were wrong about alters, and as multiple people have said, Mal should have been more of a protective alter, rather than just evil for the sake of it. But I think Mike was always a kind of boring character because his main/fronting alter is Mike. And Mike's just a boring guy. I feel like TDI was trying to do the activist thing where "people with X can still be good people!" and so you get the blandest characters. Think of the Love, Simon movie. "im such a normal guy EXCEPT im gay." that's the vibe with Mike. "im a normal guy EXCEPT i have DID." to prove that people with DID can be "normal." But it stops the character from being interesting, and also... is *normal* the thing we need to be aiming for? There's a lot of interesting discourse around that, but that's not important for this post, lol.
Zoey - she's Zoey. She wasn't a great character to start with and she's not a great character now. And she's also very stupid - Mal has that effect on people. It's hard to have strong feelings on a character you never cared about in the first place.
Overall I'd say that TD had a bad vision of making their most "evil" villain yet, and what makes a villain frightening is how much power they have over their victims... but the victims were all capable people who had won survival shows and were known for being smart and/or athletic. And instead of taking that into account and writing the villain better, they just... forced all the victims to be stupider.
I think they should have written All Stars as a “wrap up loose character development season,” instead of coming up with a mega villain plot. Because total drama fans are in it for the Characters more than anything else. So just focus on growing them, and people would have been happy.

The End, So Far Album Review
Hello. It's Toad. And this post is all about the new album that Slipknot put out and my thoughts live time while listening to it. This means that they are unfiltered. That being said please understand that I am thankful they shared their art with us yet again, and a review is merely my own opinion of how the music made me feel and my experience while listening to it.
It's not an argumentative point nor do I wish to have a Socratic seminar on the internet. Spoiler Toad’s real personality is not Ben Shapiro so I don't really enjoy having frivolous little scuffles with people who I am largely unacquainted with. I’m not sure I made a gain in life anytime that I engaged in an argument on the internet.
However, I love sharing knowledge with others and conversing (and for those of you who don't know arguing and conversing/learning new views are not the same thing!!!). Okay now that I've attracted people who like to fight bahaha let's get on to the review :)
Adderall: (4/10)
Reminds me of a musical
Acid trip influenced?
I feel like I'm slightly in the 70s
Overall eh and seems out of place, but new styles are always a great idea
The Dying Song: (9/10)
Already knew this one was a banger
Angry. I am in love.
Great message
Still can't be early Slipknot tho, but that's okay that's why the other albums are recorded and can be listened to at any time. They don't need to be the same to still be Slipknot.
The Chapeltown Rag: (10/10)
God damn I love this song
Make hyper brain feel very happy
Message is also good
Sid doing work? Okayyyyy!
The fucking breakdown at 1:37 ughhh 😩 Yummy.
Corey's deep voice power here is really showcased 👀
Yen: (8/10)
Like the spooky/eerie video and vibes
The guitar goes hard
We love to see Rat's solo!
Corey's voice really be horny hours
Chorus is a banger
Overall song is good, a little repetitive is all.
Hive Mind: (8/10)
Very much so like the spooky start. I feel like a terminator invader alien
Okayyyy go get it Jim, Mick, and Alessandro!
We can hear Clown and his shiny keg. We love.
Jay's getting a workout, too
Alien sounds are banging
Love the energy and anger of the song. Reminiscent of young Slipknot.
Warranty: (4/10)
Okay right away has me pumped
We are still in a spaceship
Hmmm not really vibing with this one. Seems a little slapped together.
I feel meh. It didn't really capture my attention.
Medicine for the Dead: (3/10)
I'm in a Scooby-Doo episode where it is set in a swamp and there is something swimming in the water.
The tempo is nice and feels powerful and is very methodical.
Song really made me realize how Corey's singing style has changed and grown
I don't know if I like the up and down/soft and heavy style :/
Acidic: (2/10)
I can see Shawn put his ✨artiste✨ mind to work here with all the intros
Feels very sinister in the opening
God damnit Corey keeps normally singing and I wanna just hear anger 😂 but still at least it is new and fresh
The guitar solo tho. Who's getting their dick sucked??? 👀👀👀
Ending was sort of strange and gave 70's vibes again
Overall not a fan of the new style here.
Heirloom (1/10)
Okay Sid go off I guess
Corey if you don't start screaming so help me God. Good on you tho for calming down in life 😂
I just. Everyone else is amazing. Really upped their skill set. Corey. You are on thin ice [please know that toad understands how amazing Corey's skill set is, this comment is made in jest. Please relax].
Did they accidentally put a stone sour song on the Slipknot album? 😂 @in-death-we-fall @custer-mp3
H377: (9/10)
I'm not getting my hopes up even tho the intro is dope
Finally we have remembered our roots as a nu-metal band
Tempo? Chef's kiss! 🤌🏻
Can't wait to go off like a crack squirrel when this comes on
Corey could sound a little more. Like. Angry? I don't know, just not like Corey quite yet.
Great guitar work again
Amazing
De Sade: (4/10)
Great seamless carry-over into the next song.
Nice Jay spotlight for a little
Whatever Corey repeats is um. Interesting? Hahaha
We pick up tempo and energy in the middle
Lots of high-pitched guitar which isn't bad, just something newer
Very nice base playing ♥️
The drawn out guitar after "why" is smexy
The "stab stab stab" in the background of the end guitar solo was lowkey funny and made me think of: who let Sid in the recording booth lmao
Overall just meh towards it, not bad tho.
Finale: (5/10)
Okay so we got like a melody violin and piano fairy in a cave thing going on?
Building up slowly
I like the layers of the chorus
Monkeys "oooohahahaha" very uhhh unique?
Guitar and base at like ≈3:00 is nice
We got some opera.
Song seemed to have the tone of coming to an acceptance that wasn’t necessarily wanted.
Melancholy??
It was a great statement piece. Not my style.
Overall: (6/10)
Great they still put out music.
Trying new styles is great, dont want it to be stale they just didn’t vibe with me which is fine
For me 50/50 love/hate the songs.
Separate from Sone Sour for the most part, but definitely the most mixed that Slipknot has been with them and their style.
Probably my least favorite album.
Will continue to listen to it and see if it grows on me more. I initially didn’t like WANYK also so things tend to grow better on me over time.
