I watched Kizazi Moto and I really liked it a lot! One of the things I found especially interesting was the difference in…I want to say emoting? expression? with how some of the characters responded to things. Like with tongue clicking and some hand motions. I thought that was very interesting. Did you have a fave episode?
YES! Finally, someone watched/sent in an ask about this anthology!
And what you said here, noticing the differences in emoting. I am so glad you mentioned that because, yes: African storytelling, particularly when it comes to bringing stories to the big (or in this case, streaming) screen, does have its own style of emoting, staging, and composition.
And, yes, every culture does (for all people meme on Indian soap operas having the 'twenty dramatic zooms with matching music', you can tell that's a modernized carryover from traditional storytelling), but I have been yearning for African stories to be able to be seen by a wider audience so they can be a part of the conversation.
Because, yeah, we have companies like Netflix picking up a few Nigerian and Ghananian movies/shows for streaming, unless you're searching for them or your algorithm is trained, you'll never find them.
Also, shout-out to Supa Team 4
Tumblr media
An upcoming CGI animated series from Zambia that is looking like a fusion of Miraculous and DC Super Hero Girls.
But, my rambling aside, for me there were three stand-outs from the anthology.
My favorite cultural-reflection, My favorite spectacle, and My Overall Favorite (kind of like a Best in Show).
My Favorite Cultural-Reflection
And by this, I mean which of the shorts reflected the culture it's creators are from the best (even though it may not have been my Overall Favorite):
Moremi (Nigeria)
Tumblr media
(Hate that I couldn't find a gif for this one...)
Before this series aired proper, If you showed me 15 seconds of each short and told me to identify which country they came from, with this one it would have been a no-brainer. The staging and composition are such a strong mirror to Nigerian storytelling, a facet that is made even more obvious when we're introduced to the scientist character.
My Favorite Spectacle
Mkhuzi: The Spirit Racer (South Africa)
Tumblr media
The sheer definition of 'Hype'. When I was liveblogging my first time watching some of the anthology, I made the comment 'Who at Triggerfish Studios marathoned Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill before coming into work that day?!' But, yes, this short was extremely anime, extremely colorful, and extremely action-packed. All while still having a message about maintaining the connection with your ancestors.
My Overall Favorite (Best in Show)
Enkai (Kenya)
Tumblr media
Everything about this short, the composition, the color-scheme, the acting, the setting, and the messages are beautiful. While the initial scenes give us the impression of a simple, more intimate story of a mother and daughter, as the story progresses, the audience is presented with themes of family, spirituality, environmentalism, and even a bit of generational trauma sprinkled in (if you know where to look).
In fact, I'm going to discuss the moment that solidified this short as Best in Show for me. Spoilers under the Read More
When Enkai and her mother finally escape the destroyed Earth and Enkai is showing the new world she's made, free of mankind's greed and destruction, her mother has a moment of hesitation and looks back towards the Earth.
Even though the Earth and it's people, the ones who she was trying so hard to protect, have hurt her so much, she still says, "...I can still fix this!"
And Enkai has to be the one to tell her mother, "If we didn't leave, we would never be free from them. They have to save themselves now."
As much as the environmentalist message is there, it also reflects a story of a woman being abused by her family, hurt by her family, and internalizing the fact that she has to stay; she has to take care of her loved ones, only finally being told by the next generation 'No, you have done enough! You have been hurt enough!'
I just... God, the beauty of African storytelling being presented in the medium of modern animation got to me, okay?

were there any other anime that you enjoyed?
ANOTHER BIG ASK LMAO
I was big into Haruhi Suzumiya (God Knows... almost made it onto that list of fave songs not in english lol) and Toradora for the LONGEST time! One of my high school teachers actually gave me half the manga volumes I own because he knew I loved it so much. I wore my hair like Haruhi every day for. A year? Maybe?? At least???? TRULY I WAS IN DEEP. Someone ruined them for me though lol still trying to win them back in my heart.
Naruto was like. 60% of my personality in middle school and high school. I think I've cosplayed every iteration of Itachi and some Sasuke too. Met some of my favorite people through cosplaying loser Uchihas. The music kicks ass. Kishimoto doesn't know how to write women. Fanfic authors always came to his rescue.
Yakitate! Japan. I don't have much more to say about that. Except it's VERY good and VERY fun and I never got into Food Wars because YAKITATE! JAPAN IS RIGHT THERE!!!!!!! I should probably get into Food Wars though.
Tokyo Mew Mew was FORMATIVE!!!! It's the series I read my first fanfic from! I made my own mewmew sona a while back (like. a few years ago. not in middle school LOL) it will ALWAYS hold a place in my heart.
MADOKA! Listen. I respect why people don't like the series. Girls deserve more than suffering. BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH LMAO HOMURA MY GIRL, and the visuals UGH THE VISUALS!!!! IT'S SO PRETTY!!!!
Also pretty was Made in Abyss, but again, I fully recognize why people stay away from it. But it's SO GOOD AND SO PRETTY AND OUCHIE. Perhaps there is a theme here,
I didn't get into Love Live! when it was still airing, and never really watched the anime until I got VERY into the rhythm game a couple year ago (I'd been playing way back in 2014, but stopped when I got a new phone and lost my old account but downloaded it around 2020 as something to do) and im kind of kicking myself because now all the merch of the OG girls is GONE! GIVE ME MY MAKI MERCH!!!!! I'm still very salty about the mobile game fiasco lmao but its okay because Project Sekai will save me :)
I feel like I could go on, but then it'd just turn into "what anime have you watched?" because im very bad at watching anime so I've only ever finished shows I truly like (or if a friend has sat me down and said 'we're watching this now :3' ) Full Metal Alchemist was also Formative, but I never actually sat down and watched Brotherhood all the way through lol I've seen Death Note a half dozen times I think which is weird because I would NOT consider it a fave yet it's probably the one I've seen most other than Haruhi (endless eight DNI)
I have not watched anything recently, but I love the Dungeon Meshi manga, and I think I might watch..fri....frieren? The little elf girl. That looks cute. It will probably destroy me.

MOR! My beloved. I can always expect the truth from you. Overall thoughts on Between Us? I know the final ep was not your fave but how about the series? What would you want to keep? What would you want to change?
Eboni, my darling- hoo, boy. you're about to get way more than you bargained for, but I got some Thoughts™️ & some Things™️ to say.
disclaimer: Between Us was a sweet, serviceable, inoffensive show. I mostly enjoyed watching it & I loved being back in the UWMA universe, however tangentially.
speaking to the collective “you” here: if you loved the show from start to finish, I'm sincerely happy for you! if it'll lessen your BU fandom experience to read critiques- which is valid & completely understandable- click away. I swear I'm not trying to rain on your parade (or argue with anyone, which I won't be- period).
also, let's check ourselves: this is a show. it's not that serious- it couldn't be less serious, actually. sometimes I just like to go off the analytical deep end...it's a good time for a nerd like me. this is my house (my blog) & I'm just having fun, throwing digital paint around.
with all that out of the way, let's jump into it.
UWMA set an extremely high narrative standard. we knew from scene one the writers weren't messing around. that opening is burned into my memory forever.
Tumblr media
from compelling flashbacks, to multiple couples that had something for everyone, to little plot details weaved in from the beginning that only made sense later- they knew exactly what story they were trying to tell & they told it in a big way. it was tightly constructed, cleanly delivered and hit all the right notes for me personally.
UWMA is a tough act to follow. in the end, it felt like Between Us barely tried. to quote an MDL reviewer (before the finale even aired): in with a bang, out with a whimper.
step one of any good story is solid character development. it's what draws us in, making & keeping us emotionally invested. we have to like these characters- and know enough about them- in order to care. that- and a good, solid plot- is what sustains our attention.
in a pretty atypical way, Between Us had serious emotional fan investment long before it had basically any character development (thanks to BounPrem's chemistry, IMO).
Win and Team had roughly 31 minutes of total screentime in UWMA, but you'd have never known it from the fever-pitch fandom support years before its release. we didn't have much real character knowledge or depth to go off of, but many of us came into this show ravenous for more of their story (raises hand).
the show's over now and, disappointingly, I don't feel like I learned much about either Win or Team that I didn't already know. we did see them struggle- Team with his guilt and insecurities; Win with his vague intimacy aversion and self worth issues.
Tumblr media
Team and Win had plenty of things between (heh) the two of them to overcome- so what went wrong?
for me, Between Us suffered from a tragic case of barely-scratching-the-surface character development (there was so much there to play with narratively & yet- sigh), paired with serious flaws in the rising action.
every single story in existence uses rising action. to quote Henry of The Closer Look, a media analyst I like: "rising action is basically narrative tension. it's the way the conflict builds as the story goes along."
when a story utilizes rising action effectively, the audience ends up feeling almost elated by the end. it's almost like we actually went on the same journey as the characters, and we now get to bask alongside them in just how far they've come. we want to see characters we care for improve, persevere. overcome, conquer.
when rising action is handled correctly, the plot progression looks something like this.
Tumblr media
via Henry's excellent analysis on why TLOU2 divided its fandom so thoroughly
Between Us had tension, it had conflict- but it looked something like this (I'd add way more hills, personally).
Tumblr media
"what you're seeing here is an abomination of story structure." hey- Henry said it; not me.
the conflicts went up and down throughout the story. Team internally spirals; Win does something sweet and pulls him out of it. everything seems fine; Win pulls back.
rinse, wash, repeat in an endless cycle, made worse by the fact that they struggled with- and apparently overcame- the same. exact. issues, over and over, the entire time.
conflicts that seemed to be resolved came back exactly as they were, sometimes multiple times in a single episode. by episode 7 or so, it was getting tedious. by the end, I was just bummed.
for me, watching Between Us was going around in circles, hoping we were working towards some actually-important climax that never came. and I wanted to believe we were going somewhere, right up until the bitter beige-on-beige end.
there were no scenes that actually made me hold my breath, ala Bad Buddy’s confession-of-legends on the rooftop. no repeating themes, masterfully culminating in the finale (running up the cape in ITSAY). Between Us left me with an itch for depth and impact that only fan fics can scratch at this point (bless you writers).
yeah, Win and Team ended up together- of course they did. I don't think anyone had any doubts they would eventually. but standing at the finish line, do I care that they ended up together?
I hate to say it, but- not really. they didn't give me enough to make it feel meaningful- like it actually meant something. it just- is. yay? I guess?
this post was brutal enough, but to answer your question about what I'd keep & what I'd change? it's hard to pick when the whole thing just felt like special episodes (filled with lots of cute, sweet moments, to be fair) with an enormous dash of missed opportunity.
all in all, I don't regret watching but it's a universe I'll only be returning to via fan fic fixes- and UWMA, my forever top 3 BL beloved.

how are you into devilman
Fine, thanks, how about you? Kidding, kidding. I know what you're asking (and I know I'm late answering...): I don't seem like the type of person that would post about something like Devilman, right? Well, the reason behind my getting into it is actually the simplest you can think of: as the most cursory glance at my blog can show, I am an animanga nerd (and for many other things too, but that's a story for another day). I've also been a literary nerd since my dad taught me to read, and now I'm a Literarure student, to boot. My burning passion for literary creation and, crucially, for acquiring knowledge about it (through reading it first-hand, of course) thus plays an enormous part in the way I read and/or watch non-literary texts, which I never choose to engage with any less seriously than I'd do with anything else. And, well, you know how there are some books that you can't not read if you want to understand the literary history of a particular country and/or language? When the medium we're concerning ourselves with is manga, then we can't not read Devilman the same way we can't not read Astro Boy, Attack no. 1, The roses of Versailles or dozens other milestones in the history of Japanese comic that I can't list here and now. I've known that Devilman was among these required readings for a long time, because its immense importance was always referenced in all the books and magazines about the history of manga that I devoured as a Gymnasium student. And my curiosity only grew with the years, because the comic book shop I was a regular at couldn't obviously sell me a series with such a high age rating before I turned 18. You can add to that the fact that I thought I was already well-acquainted with Gō Nagai, when in fact I was only familiar with family-friendly animated adaptations of his most famous works. This is because since around the age of 7 I had watched and rewatched the Robotic Trilogy anime (which consists of Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger and UFO Robot Grendizer), as well as the unrelated Jeeg Robot, be it via some of the very frequent TV reruns or via videotapes that my mum had recorded at the end of the last century. Grendizer, in particular, is very dear to my mum because she grew up on it during the late 70's, so to put is shortly she made it so it could become a part of my childhood too. (Off-topic side note: she was very excited when news of the upcoming Grendizer U reboot aired on TV, but I fear she'll be disappointed due to it being written by the same Ichirō Ōkōchi who's brought us Devilman Crybaby...) Putting it simply: I knew I liked these anime series so I thought I liked Gō Nagai, which fostered my desire to read this all-important but forbidden Gō Nagai manga that I kept on reading about. How things have changed... It may be repeated too much, but it's just because it's true: no one respects Gō Nagai more than those who only known him cursorily through Tōē Dōga's classic adaptations of his giant robot stories, but no one hates Gō Nagai more than those who have actually endured reading his manga.
This was just the needlessly long story behind why, as you can see, I had the moral duty to read Devilman. Flash forward to early 2017, I turn 18, I go to the comic book shop, I buy Devilman, I return home, I read Devilman, I am traumatised, I begrudgingly recognise its genius, I am still disgusted, I develop a (probably unhealthy) love-hate relationship with this manga. Not with Gō Nagai though, that one is a pure hate relationship. BTW, you can imagine how shocked I was when I discovered that my childhood fave Tōkyō Mew Mew was secretly a Devilman retelling; I am just glad I hadn't yet watched stuff like, say, Neon genesis Evangelion before reading Devilman, but this just proved how right I was about there being some manga that should be required reading before passing on to... well, everything else.
I unfortunately suffer from a terminal form of completism syndrome, which is how I ended up searching Japanese blogs for info about those silly pachinko cutscenes that have sparked your question. But in fact, Devilman may very well be what is slowly curing me, since I was so horrified from some of the later official material I've read, not even mitigated by the redeeming virtues of the original manga, that more and more I'm starting to reconsider my stance about having to read and watch *everything* about any particular franchise I get into. I wish I didn't have to learn this the hard way, though... and that I had some brain bleach handy, sigh. Yes, I hate Gō Nagai. Yes, I hate almost all the non-70's Devilman stuff that I've read or watched so far (to the point that I don't know whether to go on or not). Yes, sometimes I wish I could warn my younger self. But historical knowledge is one of the things I value most and, if I hadn't read this foundational title, what sort of pseudo manga fan would I be today? And I love Ryō Asuka to death - don't we all? - along with many future characters and stories by different authors that he paved the way for. These are the two things that I reckon make it worth it to be into something as infuriating and terrifying as Devilman.

Onto episode 6 of the bad batch
This is like. Its a Show That Exists you know? During the normal run time this would have been week six I think of tbb airing. I remember definitely actively hating a lot of it but now while I'm still far from a fan it's like. Mediocre? Just average. I think the first two eps were a disservice to the overall series because again they turned up the caricature aspects.
But otherwise in terms of development for the characters, Wreckers the only one I think who's had a noticeable change. It's both good and bad! Because him being nothing but an aggressive brute from s7 to s1e1 just looked racist, esp when they kept setting him up against crosshair and tech. And now he's shown his softer more caring side wrt omega, but it's not like. Natural development, it's the natural conclusion/part of his particular trope writing for the 5 man band. Big Strong Aggressive Guy has a heart of gold. So it's good because now he's much less one dimensional, but it's still trite.
This mine craft textured logo 😭
Omegas episode arcs seem to be her mostly proving that she's meant to be part of the team? It's like Dilemma -> Keep Omega Away -> At least one Batcher is in trouble -> Omega helps save them.
And they're not wrong for trying to keep her away 😭 obv nobody wants their kid shot at. But I find myself hoping that she gets at least another moment to just be a Kid rather than be the happy helper for the batch or at times their moral compass.
I remember in one ep someone said Wrecker sounded smarter and I had to point out to them that it's because he literally just spoke less 😭 but I'm being reminded why out of all that batch (excluding echo) Wrecker is my fave: he's toned down from his tropeyness and now he's settled and appears normal. Hunter still is a bit empty as a character tho.
Is this ithorian in a leotard
Oh this is the EP w trace and rafa
Cid would be a great character if she didn't feel so wildly antisemitic
I like yellow droids tbh I think there should be more of them
Oh yeah the cliche of the big guy being scared of heights. which is so funny bc wreckers tall as hell as it is
See how Wreckers the one to bring up Crosshair? And how so far they've actually be doing fine without him. This is the first time we've gotten a situation where Crosshairs absence actually affects how they operate.
They should get Omega some new clothes so she blends in and has more protection
I love when they have super normal panicky sounding VAs
Ik if this was MA Rafa would be cursing everybody out rn
I forgot how hot Rafa is
Funny how two normies so far have IDd them as clones
Rafa does NOT give a shit about children BDKSBDKANSKSKAK
Again like their main theme doesn't blend
I like that Rafa's a good shot.
Please this echo joke 😭 dbksndlwjdla
Trace my girl trace ❤️
Like wreckers momentary absence is impacting them more than Crosshairs
Tuning out distractions is one thing but noodle arms is another
"we're different"
"I've heard that before" huh hm
Actually Rafa and traces ship is huge
Oh I like the way the engines look on Rafa and traces ship too

↳ 8 Shows To Get To Know Me
thank you @jyuubin for tagging me! sorry it took me a while to type this up.
i have decided to pick shows that i rewatch for comfort or keep me awake at night thinking about every little detail and emotion inside. here we go!
Bones (2005 - 2017) i grew up with this show and i just love temperance brennan with my entire life. i love the smithsonians i love booth and brennan i love i love i love and i rewatched s1-s3 sooooooo many times because iykyk it just kills me in the best way everytime.
Because This is My First Life (2017) my comfort feel good kdrama. i love how this drama focused on telling the stories of three women fighting for their dreams, and how every one of them had their own definition of happiness. oh i feel so much for the three of them and i love love love their love interests too. such a well-written show.
The Good Place (2016 - 2020) another comfort and feel good show. the good place is fun, intelligent, and most importantly, kind. it came out during a time when we all needed that reassurance: that things can be changed. things can be better. things SHOULD be better. WE should be better, and we CAN be. i'd even say it's another version of everything everywhere all at once's philosophy. it also has chidi anagonye, the love of my goddamn life.
First Kill (2022) if i were a zombie ♪ i'd never eat your brains ♪ a lesbian vampire x hunter show that got fucking cancelled by netflix bc netflix hates lesbians. i miss them sorely. this show was fun and intriguing, it has the right tone for teenage romance — dramatic and heart-wrenching. the cast is incredibly charming — gorgeous women from mothers to daughters and beautiful men too. talia burns you are everything.
Racket Boys (2021) coming-of-age sports kdrama. i had a visceral reaction to insol when he [redacted] and then i had a mini phase where i had intense brainrots over haesol ( haekang x insol ) which in retrospect is sorta like me with palmchopper. you get what i mean? i still love insol very much and i still have brainrots about them in fact i'm looking at my gifsets right now.
The Get Down (2016 - 2017) I WILL NEVER FORGIVE NETFLIX FOR CANCELLING THIS SHOW. the get down was about the bronx and the beginning of hip hop. ezekiel figuero and shaolin fantastic. mylene. dizzee kipling. i love them so much. so many iconic scenes and lines. justice smith has remained one of my fave actors since then.
Better Call Saul (2015 - 2022) i watched this show during the airing of its final season bc it was all on netflix and i did not expect how easily i grew attached. i watched breaking bad a long time ago and never thought too much of saul goodman the funny lawyer, so i didn't rush to watch bcs when it first aired. but damn how glad i am to have binged it when it delivered its finale too. incredibly tight-knit and immaculate in writing and filming. the details are so intricate it's almost impossible to pull off but they managed. it's quite heavy from time to time, and such a tragedy too. but that's the story. and it does get the ending it deserved. i can say it's the best written tv show i've seen with such a long run.
Scissor Seven (2018 - ) happy, feel good, comfort show. it's a chinese animated series with a lot of canto humour, which just hits home for a canto like me. it follows the regular shounen anime formula but with less self-importance. it's just about a guy who wants to live a good life with people he cares about on this island he calls home. well, with the past coming back for his life.
tagging anyone interested!

Finally got around to my 2022 book recs list. I read 55 books last year, which is fantastic considering grad school and all that stalled my fun reading for a long time. Obviously I read The Locked Tomb series and I think you should too. Other than that, it's almost all manga and romances on this list. That was my escapism vibe last year, but it's also what the readers in my library enjoy so it's what I'm happy to keep up with.
In vaguely the order I read them, last year's faves are:
How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories--I read the entire Folk of the Air series over December/January and it's all great but this novella was my favorite. Holly Black continues to be the best at fairies. I loved how the two characters in the central romance are desperately feral in their own way. This one will make little to no sense without the context of the whole series, and so I reccomend the whole series. It's about an angry human girl who grows up in Fairyland, the dilettante fairy prince who hates her, and all the amoral fairy intrigue and violence that being part of a high court entails.
In the Dream House--I don't normally read memoirs but this has such an intriguing cover. I didn't expect to be taken for a ride through deep feelings about queerness, gender, latinidad, trauma, historiography, relationships, and just like, being a person who occupies space. It's about the author's abusive relationship, yes, but also it's poetically and ruthlessly about her as an entire person.
Alexis Hall--not a book but a rather prolific romance author. Mostly mlm romances, but he runs the gamut in terms of genre and content. I particularly enjoyed Pansies, where a guy goes back to his small hometown after recently coming out and ends up falling for and trying to make amends to the kid he bullied a bit in high-school. How to Bang a Billionaire looks like it's meant to be a Fifty Shades ripoff but its actually really good BDSM with a sub who's knowledgeable and just having a fun time, but the dom has some heavy trauma that I don't know everyone would be down for so heads up. He also has a couple novels that have become very popular recently, so I expect we'll be seeing him a lot. Overall, I appreciate that all of his protags have way more going on than just the relationship, but also the relationships do have genuine chemistry.
Boys Run the Riot--a short manga series about a Trans high-schooler who wants to start a streetwear brand with his friends. It brings up different aspects of queerness and queer culture in Japan, which is really cool.
From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankwiler--my husband gifted me a copy because it's one of my favorite childhood books and I'm so happy to say it still holds up even a good sixty years later. A girl convinces her brother to run away to the Met and they become caught up in a mystery surrounding a recent acquisition. The kids are smart as heck but still very much kids and E.L. Konigsburg's writing style has always felt very cozy to me.
Totsukuni no Shoujo/The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil a Rún-- we've established I enjoy fairytales where the fae get to be properly monstrous. This is another manga series, this time about a little girl in a cursed forest who is taken in by a creature she calls "Teacher". He tries to care for her and keep her from becoming cursed herself. Charming, a little spooky, a little sad, and very gorgeous.
Perfect World--a manga series where an able-bodied interior designer reconnects with an architect childhood friend who is now disabled and uses a wheelchair; they fall in love, work together to create accesibly designed buildings, and navigate both his specific disability and being disabled in Japanese society at large. A ton of research obviously went into this series, but more importantly a lot of heart.
Wherever is Your Heart-- novella. Anita Kelly writes some good-ass queer romance of all flavors but this one is particularly noteworthy in being butch4butch and having protagonists in their late forties. It's fairly short and sweet, but you don't need much more than that to enjoy it when June finally works up the courage to ask the bartender at her favorite bar on a date.
And the best book I read in 2022:
House of Leaves-- so this is a book about a guy transcribing an academic work written by different guy about a documentary filmed by another guy about moving into a house with his family. It's also about narratives within narratives, the relationship between reading and the reader, and the relationship between the storyteller and the story. It’s a love letter to academic analysis and a scathing critique of academic analysis. It's actual posmodernism. It's a damn good horror novel. It's an experience. It's a book that 100% could never work as anything other than a book. People will tell you it's a hard read but it's not! You just have to engage with it and think about it a little. Read it! Oh it's so nice to find someone who loves the Sopranos, not many people on this site know it unfortunately..can you talk about the things you loved? Favourite season, episode, character/actor? What you thought of the ending and where the characters ended up?
Aw sweet! Glad to hear from someone who also loved the show. I rarely get anons to discuss film or tv series, so you've just made my day!
Full disclosure, I haven't finished it yet. I'm still six episodes away, but I already know mostly how it's going to end; I watched the last few minutes of the finale when it aired back in 2007. And yes, people did talk about it in my high school the next day and I was glad I tuned in for that. I didn't watch the show then because I was too young and not interested, but I lived in New Jersey around that time and the show and its huge success was something the state and the city I lived in was proud of (and you would hear sometimes about them shooting a scene somewhere near). I liked the ending then and now; Tony’s luck was going to run out one day, and we didn't need to see it. No one can cause that much carnage and destruction and get away with it, even he knew it from the day of his first panic attack. The people who didn't like it obviously weren't paying attention to the brilliant writing and James Gandolfini's masterful acting skills (rest in peace, king).
I love how Tony is obviously a morally flawed human being and is affected by his actions. He's not someone we should cheer for, but we silently hope for him because we want him to be the good man he has shown he can be (look how loyal he is to his family, even to his mother and uncle, for better and worse). Take his depression, anxiety and the intergenerational trauma; his mind and body can barely take it anymore, and although his sessions with Dr. Melfi do work, he is doomed to the life he was born into. It's a tragedy, in some ways. He is the definite definition of the word anti-hero. Even Carmela, whom I love, knows exactly what her husband is up to and how the glamorous lifestyle she loves is achieved and she wilfully turns a blind eye until it literally comes into her home, the only place in the world she has any real say and control (the breakup in season 4 and 5 have some of my favorite episodes). And his fellow goons who are part of that notorious subculture are pretty clear that they love the goodies the life of all that crime gets for them, conscience be damned.
My favorite characters are Tony, Carmela, Dr. Melfi, Johnny Sack, Corrado Soprano, and sometimes Paulie when he's not being a full blown sociopath. These characters are fully written and fleshed out, your favorite skips from the episodes you watch (like one week, Adriana is my fave, the next Bobby, etc.). The success of this show is because of how these characters were written with their motivations and intent made subtly clear, and we get to see how it ruins their lives. No one gets a happily ever after here.
Favorite seasons are the first (talk about starting with a bang!) and the third, and so far the 5th. Maybe the sixth when I finish it, but I also liked the episodes when Tony and Carmela were separated, because I seriously wanted that for her.
Sorry for the long and rambling response, but this was such a treat for me and I hope some parts make sense. Thank you!

Prologue
As you delve into these lines, I sense a mutual desire for friendship. Step into the welcoming atmosphere of the Cameey residence! ;3 Take pleasure in the words woven here and contemplate whether you’d like to embark on the delightful journey of friendship with me. (To be completely transparent, the prospect of friendship genuinely excites me! >__<)
Navigating the realm under the moniker Camille Marjorie Ariadne, feel at liberty to address me as Camille, Cameey, or any other variation that harmonizes with the melody of my given name. Allow me to share a bit more about myself— I align with she/her pronouns, proudly identify as an air sign, and, on the personality spectrum, find myself associated with the ENFP category in MBTI (although, I must admit, there are moments when my designation takes an unexpected turn)
Get to know more about me!
I have a wide-ranging taste in music, embracing diverse genres as long as the tunes resonate with me. Among the plethora of artists that captivate my ears are the likes of Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Chase Atlantic, Lana del Rey, Oasis, Green Day, One Direction, The Goo Goo Dolls, and the list goes on—it’s hard to encompass them all in one breath. But wait, there’s more musical goodness in my repertoire! ;3 I’m also drawn to the infectious beats and melodies of K-pop, with a special fondness for the enchanting sounds of ENHYPEN, TXT, IVE, TREASURE, NEWJEANS, STAYC, and various other groups that add a vibrant rhythm to my playlist. The symphony of genres and artists I indulge in truly reflects the colorful spectrum of my musical preferences.
Love my beauty sleep, but I’ve got this knack for waking up at odd hours. Binge-watching series is my guilty pleasure, and let’s not even talk about the ever-expanding watchlist—it’s practically a series on its own! Just a heads up, I might take a hot minute to reply in DM or on the timeline— blame it on my series marathon or a nap. Super chatty, but hey, my energy levels have a mind of their own, especially after a tweet spree! ;0
Coffee is my love language.. it’s the reason I’m practically nocturnal :D French fries are my weakness, and if it were up to me, I’d indulge in them every single day. Oh, and that post-rain earthy scent? Pure bliss! Spice and noodles are my culinary BFFs, no doubt about it. ;3
Absolutely obsessed with One Piece! I’d move mountains just to see Luffy become the Pirate King! 🏴‍☠️ Hoping to meet tons of friends who share the One Piece love because I’ve got so much to spill! Now, picking a fave character is like choosing between fries and nuggets, but for now, I’m rolling with Trafalgar D. Law! (Though let’s be real, that might change in like 5 minutes :chuckles:)
Gaming is my jam, especially Plato and Genshin (though I’m still a bit of a newbie in the Genshin world...) Hit me up if you’re up for some gaming together— I’m always down for a good time! 👾

tbh I wouldn't even say I'm "trying" to watch anything this season lmao I gave up trying to keep up a very long time ago. the only one I even remotely tried keeping up with was Spy x Family, but even that one I fell behind on after a few episodes despite how much I enjoy the series. I'll definitely catch up with that one once the season is done airing though.
yeah Christmas music is such an important part of the season for me but I have a pretty specific taste in that genre of music haha which I why I have a playlist. living in a place that gets lots of snow can be really nice because it's so pretty and it makes the Christmas season even better, but it can definitely be a huge hindrance too for sure. we hardly ever got significant snowfall back where I grew up, so white Christmases were never really a thing when I was a kid so it's been nice to have them as an adult~
I mean, I struggle to even watch the shorter stuff that's been on my to-watch list for YEARS so I honestly doubt One Piece will ever happen for me. xD but hey, who knows! I know plenty of people who absolutely love it, and my brother also enjoys it, so who knows what the future will bring haha.
as for faves regarding HQ!! and SNK, Hinata and Kageyama and my babies and I adore them with every fiber of my being, but I also really love Kuroo and Nishinoya, and Mikasa and Levi are my queen and king~ what about you?? we've talked a lot about BNHA but who are some other fave characters of yours?
and yeah I totally agree with you regarding Hawks, he deserves so much more love and appreciation. he's been through so much shit throughout his life and he tries SO HARD to do good however he can despite constantly being manipulated by the HPSC and forced to do things that he doesn't necessarily want to do. speaking of Endeavor though... what are your thoughts on him? 👀 I personally can't stand him and the fact that Hawks as a character is so linked to him throughout the story just... hrg;kahgrjabs I absolutely hate it and I do wish we had seen SOME sort of backlash after Dabi's broadcast, especially from Hawks himself, but nothing seems to have changed at all?? I'd love to hear your thoughts regarding that whole situation~
please don't ever apologize about being passionate about a character or anything!! you deserve to be as engrossed in a character or a story or whatever as you want, and I love it!! thank you for sharing your thoughts with me~❤️
~your animanga secret santa❤️
Hello Santa! It's almost Christmas, so going to wish you a early very merry one until reveal day!! 🥰
Aww I love spy x family too, its the perfect balance of heartwarming and funny. Really enjoy the whole forgers family, but even the other characters like Damien I just want to learn more about them!! Hope you'll enjoy when you catch up!
What's your fav music genre? That's so cool you get white christmas now! I'd like to spend one with that one day too. But omg I keep hearing about everyone at freezing temperatures for xmas this year but apparently where I'm at it's going to be quite warm this week. 😅 At least traveling is easy here ha ha.
Ahaha again, totally understandable about OP. There's a ton on my watch list that I'm still waiting for the "right mood" for and haven't started either. I wonder what your favorite animanga is? 👀
Oh hell yeah, all your HQ favs are my favs too!! lol. Hinata is a complete sunshine and literally deserves everything good in the world. I think he's so motivational and really makes you feel like you can do anything haha. And Kageyama was my love at first sight in HQ bcus I have a type and his misunderstood personality speaks to me alsjdkkdd lol. I also love his character development a lot. And Kuroo, his personality, his looks...he's perfect. I also predictably loved that Kuroo's VA in japanese is also Hawks'. ^^ And Nishinoya is just so damn cool and reliable, he's the best! Anyways I really love almost everyone in HQ tho, sports anime always makes me feel that way lol. Idk if you've seen Run with the Wind, but it reminds me a lot of HQ too, so I highly recommend. It's only one season and the main character is such a Kageyama clone too but the story is very satisfying. 💛
And for SNK, Levi and Eren have been my favs since 2013 lol. I love their tragic pasts bound by duty, the way they grew up how no one should've, their personality and need to be free, I love that they never give up and their dynamics with each other. SNK's plot of no clear cut black and white of villains, but watching Eren go from hero to antihero, was incredibly interesting. And at the end of the day, despite what he does is unforgiveably wrong...he just wanted to protect the people most important to him and its really an impossible choice. And Levi is one of the biggest badass so I liked him instantly. When you think super cool character, its easily him!! But you also learn his mistakes, his flaws, his emotions that crack through his inital cold exterior when he's anything but. And like that just makes me feel things, they're both very much human with the weight of too much on their shoulders despite the monsters they're described to be. So I have a very soft spot for them even though I don't paritucularly enjoy the fandom anymore (it turned too toxic). 😅
Besides the favs I mentioned on my last ask, hmm to expand on some of them, one of the reason I like Trafalgar Law from One Piece is because he reminds me a LOT of Levi tbh lolol 😉. The tragic past, the personality, the way he's so damn cool when he fights ...and they even have the same VA too. 😂
And to mention a few more favs,
FMAB - I loveeee Roy Mustang and Ed Elric most but also Greed/Ling.
MP 100 - Ughh I'm deep in feels since the anime just ended 🥲 but MOB is so precious.
TokRev - I loved Mikey and Draken almost instantly alsjdkd im very excited for s2. Also Baji?? 😭😭
Anyways!! OH MAN, my thoughts on Hawks and Endeavor..hahah. So I don't like Endeavor at all, but I also don't really think about him much and it doesn't bother me that Hawks is there and interacts with him in the plot because to me it speaks volumes about Hawks' character and not Endeavor. I know there's a lot of people mad that we don't see Hawks react negatively to the situation after Dabi's broadcast. But I also think people have to realize they're in the middle of literal war. Hawks, who has always been manipulated, conditioned and grew up in non conventional ways, who had probably never processed anything in his life—from his personal abuse from his parents and HSPC to what he had to do as a solider and probably a lot more if we look at Lady Nagants' hints, I think hes very good at ignoring his own feelings. He's the fastest hero literally also because I think he never takes a moment to stop, to breathe. He's always in fight for survival mode, he's always trying to do the next thing, to "be of use" (and I think after being told "what use are you" as a kid, he can't help but do this) and it shows. Even when we see him after the injures from Dabi, he's barely recovered but he's already up and about without his voice before, and now with prosthetic wings on a battlefield with the main villain. He'll really do anything including shoving his own feelings away if it means helping everyone else and he's just doing what he's always been taught to do—focus on the mission (AFO in this case). Given the war, of course he still helps Endeavor fight. But beyond that I think he says if he wants to change he'll help is because think about it -- Hawks own parents never did this. He never got answers, he never got any form of redemption from them, they never so much as apologized or recognized him in his entire life. So seeing Endeavor trying to do that? I think Hawks is very much projecting himself into Todorokis family, because he never had someone even try in his own family to reconcile on him. And he himself feels like *he's* the one that turned his back on his parents, when it was obviously the other way around. There's a lot of complicated layers and history that I think people have to understand about Hawks that makes him do what he does. I of course would LOVE to see him break down and react to everything that's ever happened to him and I hope they'll show it, but we'll see. I like mostly of where the plot is and I think there's still room for a lot of what's to come including Hawks changing/processing everything.
I feel like there will be a breaking point soon, where the "old" heroes and society will see how they've been wrong all along. It's not heroes vs. villains when a lot of the villains have been mistreated and discarded by society. I very much think the theme here is, changing and helping people like Toga, Dabi. Shigaraki who was not inherently evil the way AFO is. And that includes Hawks changing, consequences for Endeavor (I hope, after this basially apocalypse theyre fighting to end.) That's my thoughts anyways lol.
Thanks for reading Santa and can't wait to see you soon! 💛

can u rec fics where harry is really slutty
this is basically all of my recs lmao but here’s some more <33
Your God Shaped Hole Tonight by objectlesson (8k)
Harry gets railed by five huge cocks at public play party.
Desperate for it by blankiehxrry (2k)
Harry doesn't believe it when the boys tell him that he's loud during sex. He asks Louis to prove it to him. Things might get out of hand. everything from this author tbh
Double the Fun by stretchmybones (1k)
Based on the photo of Harry in NYC wearing the blue bandana and pearl necklace simultaneously. My brain screamed "day collars" at me and then I wrote this lil fic.
A slut in my eyes by blankiehxrry (2k)
Harry is a Playboy bunny.
I have often prayed for an angel by orphan_account (2k)
the one in which Louis fucks Harry in the VS wings after he wears them onstage. i might’ve recced this before but idc it’s a fave
 Medicine by thisisafamilyshow_orisit (3k)
Another very self-indulgent fic featuring Harry with an oral fixation and Louis being Daddy af.
We Were Too Young by alurringmind (2k)
Louis expected that to satiate Harry. Much to his dismay, it did not. They ran late to the interview, as Harry decided to take his time showering and picking out clothes. During the interview, he kept talking over the other boys, avoiding questions, goofing off, and making countless sexual innuendos. Management chastised him several times, but it didn't stop there. In the dressing room after the interview, the boys were all sitting on the couch as Harry was wrestling Niall to the ground after ruining Liam's new shoes and fucking up Zayn's hair.
He was gonna get it.
FUCKING BRAT!!! by wannabebestseller (2k)
Louis is a busy CEO now and Harry wants attention so he becomes a monster brat.
When The Wolves Come Out by rosemarianthyme (1k)
It didn’t matter that Louis would never once pop a knot or that Harry’s slick was always artificial. When Harry was whining desperately against his neck and Louis was growling low in his chest he could only grab Harry’s hips and pant out 'Omega.'
You Love the Way I Ride It by stylinsexualxo (1k)
Its just a smutty one shot in which Louis gets bored and Harry gets horny on the way home.
ain't this what you came for (don't you wish you came) by sugarbabyharry (2k)
Harry is married and Louis happened to be his secret lover who's really good at fucking.
Black Flowers Blossom, Fearless on My Breath by cupcakentea (4k)
Louis and Harry shotgun in public, a very private moment ensues
i heard you had a slut mouth by lohoron (32k)
Louis fucks Harry once at a frat party and suddenly forgets how to act. i definitely recced this before but it’s my favorite smut fic ever sorry
Thank You, Daddy by fournipplesau (10k)
Harry's hot, wet mouth is around him before Louis even has the chance to blink, and it feels so good, the icy sting of the frozen dessert disappearing as Harry's soft tongue laps it up. After Harry swallows, he pulls off the head of Louis' cock and then dips down to trail his tongue up the shaft, collecting the bits that dribbled down. "Yummy. Thank you, daddy." He hums pleasantly.
Or the one where Louis gets an idea, and Harry wears panties this whole series tbh
scream for air to breathe by toplinson (5k)
harry gives louis five orgasms for his birthday
smile in slow motion by istajmaal (24k)
“It’s 2011, Niall. People can fuck their friends’ faces without it meaning anything more than that.”
or, Louis is Harry's dom and maybe also his soulmate
it's all for you, everything i do by moonshinelouis (2k)
Harry's needy, Louis plays bored.
Whoever, However by Brooklyn_Babylon (8k)
Louis could feel his heart rate pick up as he positioned the camera and Harry slowly stood up. They both knew what came next –– it had been clearly outlined in the advert Harry answered. The studio Louis worked for was filming a new series of camboy videos. Louis’ job was to make it look like amateur porn –– sweaty, sensual, dirty –– but well lit and edited. He was an artist, thank you very much.
Or: Louis has a much better day at work than he’d expected.
give it to me like i want it by orphan_account (1k)
Harry is overwhelmed by Louis's size and after being fucked by him, he just can't stop wanting to have him inside of him at every opportunity.

a 4-part rec list of my fave drarry fics - the thrillers, dramas, soft bois, and wankbanks getting me through 2020′s shitstorm
[ for my fellow fledgling drarry stans bc im also very new here! like tbh i think the last fic i read pre-pandemic was a 1D ziam series back in 2013?? lmao god. but alas, after reading HP fanfic for the first time during lockdown & subsequently 300+ drarry fics since then, it is time. it’s time to be embarrassing about it online via lengthy rec lists. and if you end up loving any of these fics? follow the authors, leave kudos & comments on their work, send them nice msgs bc they do all this shit for free & that’s wild ]
part 1: thrillers
mood: for when i need something exciting, haunting, immersive, fast-paced
includes: case fics, mystery fics, plotty adventures!! expansive world-building, time warps, magical theory, wizarding politics!! the thrill of a chase!!! you’ll get your drama & spicy sex but mostly it’s the unravelling that hooks you. because for these?? you’re here for the ride, bitch.

If an Injury Is to Be Inflicted by @shealwaysreads - 45k - E ANARCHIST DRARRY IS GOD TIER and the pacing here is relentless. it’s a post-war hellscape and harry’s missing and draco is scheming. it’s violent, it’s sexy, it’s tightly written, it’s got observations on the cost of survival and revolution, it’s brilliant.
Azoth by @lol-zeitgeistic - 88k - E 8th year magical theory time and the boys are Ambitious in a hot-mad-scientist kind of way. harry is a late-bloomer Swot and has a heart-boner for genius!draco and draco tries not to have a gay panic about it?? there’s animagi, alchemy, poetic theories of change!! & lots of bird metaphors. immaculate

Tales from the Special Branch by @femmequixotic - 1.2m - E a 5-part, multiple pov, behemoth of an auror-fic series worthy of its hype bc you know what? it truly Has It All - murders, drama, sex, treason, spooky magical shit, political conflict, drama-ridden relationships, a truly complex & full-bodied cast featuring the Hot Slytherins. jkr*wling fucking WISHES she had the range

I wanted to ask, if this 10 years period is real bad? Because I'm not sure whether to read this part or not.
By "real bad" you mean like in angsty? Or bad bad?
Bc to me there's no like any period in DMBJ series that I didn't love reading, like I ofc have those books that I love most, but surprisingly there were none I didn't like. I enjoyed all of them for different reasons. Some for masochistic ones, yes lol
Well, its just if you're already commited and won't read that part, you'll miss out way too important shit. Bc this part of the series (I don't mean just the sand sea, but all the books in between) is a major turning point for everything. Qiling's past, Wu Xie's character and etc. Their relationships, too.
I'm not gonna lie it was hard for me to read (esp SS bc newbies that won't appear anymore that I couldn't get attached to, didn't help), not interest wise (bc I've finished these 4 in like 5 days lmao), but just because despite the usual high quality entertainment and badass dark Wu Xie, don't know if thats an unpopular opinion or not, I didn't enjoy seeing him like that at all. Like after 10 years Wu Xie is my favorite Wu Xie, bc besides becoming extremely badass, with his soul Xiaoge returning to him, he becomes alive again and returns his.. well, not childishness, but idk word for this his thing... cute mischief (? lol) too. And it was just heartwarming to see and be like "yes thats his my baby, but cooler now" haha.
But this middle part he just was very lifeless during the whole thing and reading like he was trying to "exist" for several books was depressing days for me haha. I'm just used to authors being nice about stuff like this and do like time skips and gentle flashbacks after maybe xD. But like proportionally.. considering the amount of books its all fair to me haha. And its a really an awesome part and the most informative one for sure.
Is it sad? Heck yeah. I mean, even with the knowledge that he's gonna be back and that he's alive, it's like he's going through all the stages of grief there and it's all not great, yeah. I mean, he also cuts himself on regular basis and just does many things that I think would make Xiaoge not even just super angry but straight up cry, but... BUT...
...I'm one of those ppl for whom "without the bitter the sweet isn't as sweet". Like to me skipping to the reunion would be a blasphemy as it is just cause I wouldn't find it as satisfying. That's just how it is for me. I hate angst without the happy ending as much as a happy ending without angst before that lmao. Thats why I think this franchise and I were meant to be xD. Bc its literally a constant perfect rollercoaster of just that.
So I can't imagine skipping this part, bc to my masochistic ass it would just ruin the joy of the journey entirely lol.
It's like... so you skip to them reuniting... it just wouldn't be as tasty, trust me. Don't you wanna know how he is, when he's angry for the love of his life? Helpless about feeling so empty? Having to do crazy things just to stop hurting and missing him at least for a second? I know u secretly wanna lol 👀
Also don't u just have other faves, too? I mean, Wu Xie kinda scarying XiaoHua with his revenge for my husband plans.. lol. There's just a lot of things you don't wanna miss haha like a bunch of idiots being memes in hard times too xD
P.S. You can also wait for the sea flower dorama to air (we'll see how this one is gonna go, but idk I have 0 hopes as usual lol) besides watching sand sea ofc (if you haven't yet). But again, don't throw tomatoes and shoes at me pls, but like as much as I think that the SS casting was great and the quality of the whole production also great, I still didn't at all get the feels of what it felt like when I was reading it. Again don't kill me, but also there to me it kinda felt like he was his dead comrade or smth (lol idk why I'm sorry), while I deeply love this part for how very angsty fanfiction-y it is in the books. And I just didn't get what I wanted to get from it in the series. It was just not quite the same vibe to me.
And I'm always like willing to give everyone a chance to surprise me, no matter the budget and stuff, I don't care already for this after watching lots of stuff, but if it doesn't fit the certain feeling of the particular part, than I'll pass.
That being said. Just don't think they can put it off. I mean "hardcore romantic longing for someone who's like not even there" part and also that other part xD. I know someone who can, but I just don't wanna be the one who constantly like... whines about them not being able to join it again... But also I'm still totally doing it most of the time lol
So yeah, I for sure recommend the full experience, I mean, it's worth it.
