RvB: Restoration Thoughts

i don't hate restoration, it's honestly pretty alright for what RT was dealing with, but there is one thing that confuddles me the most: the characters "getting what they want"

I understand RT was trying to tie up the loose ends of the characters - everything kind of comes to this perfect standstill of an ending. yet, to me, it makes no sense.

the point of red vs blue was friendship and growth of the characters within the framework of church's story. the end that makes sense involves seeing all of them after they have come together through thick and thin. I know that wasn't possible given the alotted amount of time, but something doesn't sit right with just... giving the characters what they wanted in the first place.

because, here's the thing: it's not even what they want anymore. i would have much rather seen them realize what they wanted was not what they needed.

sarge dying isn't that horrible to me. i liked what he told grif and simmons, it was just so out of nowhere. i think it would have been better for sarge to try to sacrifice but have grif and simmons stop him and almost die because of it - kind of like s8. something like that, but he realizes through grif and simmons being a leader isn't about winning, but more keeping the morale of his men. and that grif saving him so many times is a testament to how well he does as a leader. i like people saying sarge should retire. i don't know how'd they'd get there, but i like it. just be like. "you know what, boys? I'm... done with this" at the end and they're like "WHAT?" and sarge is like, "heh. don't act too damn shocked, now." and then make a joke about his age or somethng lmfao.

grif wanted to be "discharged". i would have loved to see him just... stay working with the guys given the choice to leave freely. and not just because there is a mission, or "for old time's sake". nah, because he loves them. of course, he wouldn't say that out loud. but i wanted to see grif charge headfirst into danger, like he had in s16 and so many times before, and have it BE for church and caboose. i love his little message to caboose at the end for that.

simmons who got to "be a leader"... this one i don't have as much qualms with, but i still feel like simmons could have realized what he needed wasn't to be a leader, but to have others believe in him. sarge telling him that he's proud should have still happened imo, but simmons could have turned down being a leader and offered it to Lopez or donut or something, it would have shown how much he grew. Not only that, but i imagine he would say something like "what, and leave grif unattended while i corral all you guys? no way." all snootily. could be a great to diss grif while everyone's in shock

donut honestly got a great arc in s17, so i'm kind of OK without him. but i LOVE him so like. simmons promotes him to the leader, as kind of a callback to that time they did the sarge, lopez, simmons competition in s3. that way he can still kind of be an admiral. :) and he's not a rookie anymore. and he holds like little fairs on Chorus where they do ring toss or something to do with throwing haha

lopez being donut's second in command would be HILARIOUS. like lopez i think could have had more. he's so underappreciated, and having him be like some kind authority figure would be so warranted. especially with donut's bad spanish skills. oh my god.

doc was SO slandered. i know he wanted to go out HELPING people but i think the whole thing about DOC WAS THAT HIS WHOLE THING WAS NOT ABOUT HELPING OTHERS BUT BEING FORGOTTEN AND CAST ASIDE. i think doc should get recognition and eventually be a bad doctor (still) at General Doyle's hospital, where him and omalley work at the mental health ward (sometimes successfully and sometimes unsucessfully due to omalley). or maybe he could come in at a moment where they're at the lowest to save the day. i would have loved a highlighted doc moment. if he had to die, at least do it ON SCREEN so he gets the recognition.

church & tex ... their end was pretty alright, i don't have that much to say. I think them dying like that was good, knowing that their friends loved them and that caboose was the one to restore everything to peace. i think that was the right choice and what they needed.

caboose was pretty ace in this, he was the only one that i was like. i don't really have much to say. i would have maybe put more caboose washington moments, considering they were the only two active blues left. and maybe more caboose church moments, just to have church say he's his best friend one last time.

tucker got SO sleighted. bro got like 4 lines of dialogue. and one of them was being tortured for 10 YEARS like are you kidding? i think tucker being the Great Destroyer was one of the best things that they called back to, i wish they did something for tucker about him settlin down and wanting to be a better father for junior, and more scenes with church and tucker. the chorus fight they had.... i would havevloved to see them argue about just LEAVING the blues like that.

wash and lina didn't got much, but i did like wash being in hospital and needing to let go of the freelancers. i wish that lina and him could have had that scene together in hospital. i wish the blues were more invovled with that. i think what wash needed was family; and to see more of that would have felt more satisfying.

anyways, that's my scrambled thoughts on the whole thing after thinking on it a little longer. it doesn't really matter, because based on epsilon's recap, it oculd have all been a simulation anyways, but, :P yeah

Taking a smol break

Hey guys, nothing big happening or anything here. I'm just going to be taking the next couple weeks to focus on school work since I have a lot to do! So I'll still be active but I won't be posting any new works of mine.

Don't fear, I'll be back around the 18th because classes will be over then! When I get back I have a short story to write, some requests, the next piece of Jaxon lore, and even an event around the 25th so stay tuned for those!

@starboyshoyo also writes for TWST but isn't taking requests right now but she has an event open with one slot left for a musical song with the TWST boys! Birdie has endured many of my Sebek rambles and encourages them +_+

I love to read her rambles about random things and it's so fun to see all the interactions! Auburn is also the (what I call) fish wizard. She knows so much about the ocean and sea life and you can ask about a specific species and Auburn will fill you in on it and it's so cool

@pyroxeene isn't taking requests right now but she's so lovely to talk to and she writes Honkai Star Rail content right now! She's such a talented writer like a role model to me and honestly the main character in life

@leonistic is super cool! Also probably the biggest Leona fan out there but so understandable. Soru is very nice and even has an event going on right now! But please be mindful and don't spam them with requests for the event! You'll never understand my hype when they followed me back-

@paraccosm is super nice! If you like the spiderverse, she's a wonderful writer who's also taking requests for the spiderverse! ✧Marionette/Sandrone

- Ah, the Little Girl + Absolute Unit combo, a classic

- Delightfully steampunk

- Robots, I love robots

- Don't be fooled, the girl is the actual dangerous one

- The robot will wreck your body, the girl will annihilate your MIND (and self-esteem)

✧Rooster/Pulcinella

- The Small Wise Old Man Archetype

- Will probably call you "my dear boy/girl"

- He is your grampa

- And the reason why kids believe in Santa

- The only one who will actually feel sad if a teammate dies

- Probably naive

- Honestly, I'm just thinking about Heimerdinger

- Parental figure, but of the wholesome variety

- Ah, look at him, this bastard

- He will not stab you in the back, he will pay OTHERS to stab you in the back

- Will at some point have the White Anime Glasses animation

- Probably the most unhinged one

- The current Girlboss reigning champion

- Looks like one of those characters designed to make you lose most of your health/items just before the final boss

- She also looks like when would use a rapier

- Very honorable

- Will keep her sword in it's scabbard until it's not, it's at your neck, you didn't even she her move

- If she dies, it will be one of the emotional deaths

✧Tartaglia/Childe

- Look at this guy, he has the biggest Twink Energy in the motherfricking table

- Broke the mainly while/black/blue color palette and therefore must be punished

- Carries his mask on the side of his head because Fashion

- Either that or he doesn't give a F*ck

- Believes he's tough, but he's actually baby

✧The Jester/Pierro

- The first design I saw and the reason why I actually looked up who he was and what was going on

- A DILF

- The Daddy Issues crowd is gonna eat him like a snack

- Obviously the leader, they want us to believe he's evil but I bet there are some hidden depths and honorable reasons in there

- THIS is the one who is going to make us cry if he dies

- You can TASTE the backstory from here

- Again, a DILF

✧Columbina/Damselette

- Let's go girl, eat their souls queen

- Will WRECK you

- Will haunt your nightmares

- and giggle while she does it

- Oh, the trauma

- I'm also ready to cry when we discover he's backstory

- I feel like she's one of the fatui with most chances of dying

- It's that or joining the player's party

✧The Captain/Capitano

- This is my favorite one, not gonna lie

- Ultimate Being, I am simping

- The most honorable one, will probably end up understanding the player's motives or even that he's on the "bad" side, but will NEVER betray his teammates

- Will fight till the end

- Will probably be an underappreciated character

- He's not going to be the final boss, but he's going to be one of the hardest fights

- I will cry if anything happens to him

✧The Doctor/Dottore

- Oooooooh look at this boy, he's so evil

- "I am going to create an experiment that is SO unethical"

- What a bastard

- I want to put him in my pocket

- The main character is going to despise him soooo much

- Probably has a god complex

- I am, once again, simping

hello it's your secret rocker santa again! so sorry it's taken me a few days to respond - you are right on when you say this time of year is hectic! hopefully you'll get some time to relax and enjoy things too?

ok so i confess i am only familiar with ELO's big hits like don't bring me down, livin thing, mr. blue sky (and i think sweet talkin woman and some other songs were played on something i watched recently and i yelled out ELO!). i understand about the song v. album recommendation, as i am pretty much an album listener as well. my spotify wrapped thing said so, so you know it's true!

i listened to eldorado at lunch this week and i really liked it! i liked the blend of classical music and how lush the sound was. i also listened to out of the blue and liked it a lot! i think starlight was my favorite track, but i also liked across the border - it had a sound that was a little reminiscent of one of my favorite beach boys songs, heroes and villains. anyway thank you for the recommendations, i was very happy to listen to full albums!

this may seem like the most obvious question, but how did you get into jeff lynne and ELO? what appeals to you most about him as an artist?

i'm glad you like eldorado!! i have a hard time choosing favorites, but it's a strong contender for my favorite album of all time...at least like, tied with 3-4 others haha. i also think it's perfect for fall (and winter tbh!) so i'm usually particularly in the mood for it around this time of year. and YES across the border is one of my favorites!! it gets compared to heroes and villains quite a bit, which i definitely understand; they have really similar vibes overall

hmmmmm well!!! i was more or less always aware of ELO (i was pretty much raised as a 70s music enjoyer) but it just kind of gradually evolved into madness over time for me. out of the blue was the first full ELO album i listened to and i was kind of instantly obsessed with it :') otherwise!!! i don't even know where to begin tbh. i looove his voice (i always feel like his voice/vocal ability is somewhat underappreciated tbh. he's very versatile lmao) and just??? his overall Sound = happiness to me at this point :') it's just so deeply ingrained in my life i don't even know how to describe exactly what it is for me haha. generally though, there's a certain Zestiness that a lot of the 70s ELO songs have that i just love (and that's basically what initially hooked me), BUT i'm also really attached to the newer sound as well. idk!!! i truly like it all so it's hard to describe very specifically lmao

anyway :-) sorry for taking awhile to reply again!! hope ur having a good weekend!!

STOP. LILITH IS A CHARACTER IN THIS EPISODE TOO??? WHAT ARE THE FUCKING ODDS. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES. HOW DO I KEEP DOING THIS KIND OF SHIT

I love that the Doctor has the same attitude toward the TARDIS as I have toward him "oh let's just take the fun and the mystery out of everything. martha, you don't want to know. it just goes"

The Doctor got really lucky (alien attack aside...that was gonna happen no matter what) things just kinda worked out bringing Martha back to 1599, but brushing off her very valid concerns suckssss

Narrowing my eyes at the "London never changes" comment from the Doctor after Martha looks for confirmation that the actors playing female roles were "men dressed as women." Especially with the my first comment...it's just close enough. WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT, you know? WHAT ARE YOU IMPLYING?

Martha, I respect the hustle, but...clearly this is your first time traveling in time. You were so worried about the butterfly effect before, what happened, my dear?

Honestly, if one of the greatest and most revered writers of all time looked at me like that, I'd have a grin like Martha's too and...also probably spout off a bunch of nonsense right in a row

So...is it not actually aliens? Is it actually actually witches??

I love when the acting is so camp, but that's what's being called for so it fucking WORKS. Shakespeare being controlled by the one witch (I'm gonna call them that til they give me a species name...). His face looks so dopey but it still works. And only because this is Doctor Who.

It's always entertaining when they have famous authors as characters and they get inspiration whether plot or turns of phrase from this adventure.

I'm not sure how much thought went into the motivations of these aliens...okay. Okay. They DO want to bring more of their species to rule over Earth. I really thought these were the last three left, and they didn't seem as immortal as the Daleks.

...there's more than one...🤢 again...I get for the time period it was written. It just sucks to hear it.

I can't wait to encounter whatever the Doctor did to upset Queen Elizabeth I.

Episodes Since the Doctor's Last Genocide Attempt: 2?? (Is it genocide if they're not dead but locked away in a crystal ball forever?? I guess there's always the CHANCE of escape, but unlikely)

How come anymore they make raiden so weak? Are people really that against raiden being the overworked,underappreciated,older brother of earthrealm? Are people that against the fact raiden could do everything and anything to help people. And yet.....absolutely be given the short end?

Raiden isn't supposed to be this,no offense to NRS and mk fans. Weak as fucking all hell.

Even in mortal form he was supposed to be an expert fighter with the highest level of whoop ass. The only reason why he kicked more ass is because of his godhood. But his godhood...LIKE ALL THINGS PEOPLE. Has some form of self responsiblity and honor.

Not to mention he cares extremely deeply for mortal lives. That's what made him the protector of earthrealm in the first damn place. Because he related so much to them.

He wasn't like other gods. The only other one closest to that was his Younger brother fujin. Who in turn. Also became a protector.

They kinda take turns between each other to watch over earthrealm and also the kombatants/earthrealms warriors too.

Like good lord some people obviously don't pay attention. But it's ok. It's a game. We too busy throwing hands and having fun to pay attention to story.

But thats also a double edged sword because this unfortunately makes the storylines bland af

But hey that's what blogs like these are for. So you can fill in the gaps better and dust off the unwanted bull.

But i can't stand to see one of my faves get so much slander and horrible writing.

Like raiden was my boy. I had many other crushes n faves(sassy hatbae kung lao and of course our favorite local bih sorcerer). But rai? Oh he was special.

He was comfort character,the easiest for me to play with,i loooooved his character,he was better imho when he was sarcastic and gentle but when push came to shove. Dont fuck with the god of thunder! He was indeed the older,wiser,and more reserved of the storm bros. But he was just as loving,passionate for life,and gentle as his brother fujin. (It's just older sibling problems ya know?) Like Raiden is the dude i would honestly go to talk to when i felt i needed advice or a shoulder to cry on. I feel he understands human emotions on a deeper level than most wanna believe. But he doesn't let them control him. Instead he feels them. And then lets it be. (Zen that shit mofo) he sits with them,be's their friend instead of going against the currents,he flows with them. He's definitely a "let me sit with you and let you talk,i will listen" or "sit with me a while and ease your burdens for a bit" type guy. Like i feel like they went hella backwards with raiden so much.

What is it with people making the most human,fun,and compassionate gods so to speak. Nerfed and weakened to all hell?

Do people not believe in compassionate gods or characters in general? I blame the worlds state and suffering for this terrible influx of writing. Which is sad. Because this should make people write even more compassionate characters,to bring light to the irl problems we see every day. But hey,it is what it is brah.

But anywho. I need sleep. No need to get too deep. Lol.

(Don't worry the shang tsimping will be back I'm just trying to give some love to my boy raiden because i see too much hate on him and it hurts my heart.)

Literally! I don't care that her kills in it are weightless and cameo bait. IT WAS COOL!! I must be a sheep because I thought it was the best part of the movie. I don't really care that she's being driven by the dark hold either, I just wish we got some additional Wandavision/MOM scenes that showed her reasoning for wanting to wield the dark hold. Im praying the thunderbolts movie will be good, but with the reshoots and rewrites and delays... it had me worried. I know they're doing it to "better" the movie but that has yet to be seen. RDJ made Tony kinda fine but I could not stand his character. I hate how Whedon painted him as "in the right" in the first Avengers. Honestly, my issues started with Iron Man 2 and every movie he was in until he died. Iron Man 1 is literally perfect, but it wasn't made with a sequel in mind, so they back tracked on his character in 2 and 3, then just lost focus entirely by the end. What happened to the guy learning how to use his resources for good? It's the worst in Civil War, when Tony openly disrespects Cap and Buck because he was too emotional (that movie also set up Mysterio for later and... yikes). I get that his parents died but it was years ago, and he knew that Bucky was being mind controlled during those events. He had zero free will and Tony knew that, and this movie also spawns the Sokovia Accords, which he doesn't make an effort to understand. He constantly flip flops about being more than who people think he is, but then uses the fact that "he's just a guy" to skate by unphased from the Accords. The Accords would have affected people with superpowers imbued into them, where their body and powers are one. Tony doesn't have to worry about that because his suits aren't him, no matter how much Infinity War tries to change that because of his "paranoia". And then there's his impact on Peter. Not only did he recruit a 14 year old to fight for government restrictions that would affect Peter, he also had him fighting in situations against people much more powerful than him. Then, when Peter was part of the blip, he replaced him with his daughter?? Like huh?? Im gonna cut it short there because I could go on forever about it. (If you can't tell, I'm veryyy passionate about Peter and his movies almost as much as Cap and Bucky. Plus, it's more reasons to hate Tony sjskdksj)

Totally, omg that reminds me of when I read a fic with a barista!Sam Winchester and he just... jacked off in the reader's coffee without even knowing them skdjdsj ... I should go reread that. Exactly! She outsmarted them all because she's that girl. it's as sweet as him!

Have done so for the past 10 years of playing this game. They are my babies. I will raise them well.

I really love all of the companions even though I hate the companions history. I feel like characters like Athis and Ria don't get enough love compared to more popular ones like the twins and Aela. Ria is like the nicest person to you when join! Shes still learning and likes hanging out with Vilkas! Shes nice! And Athis is the only elf unless you play an elf character. Which opens up a lot of cool dynamic stuff about his own experiences in the companions and how your presence could change things!

I will never (ever) stop yelling about Beru Lars. I think she is the most underrated, underappreciated character in all of star wars, and people actually have the audacity to hate on her and Owen???

Listen. Listen listen.

Here's this girl who grew up on Tatooine--an actual sand hell planet--probably in poverty, like most people there. She's an excellent cook, a quiet sweetheart, and she catches the eye of a moisture farmer and they end up marrying, inheriting the farm after Cliegg dies. From what I understand, Beru is unable to have kids, even though she wanted them. (Correct me if I'm wrong--lore is not my strong point lol.)

One day while she and Owen are still just dating, she meets this angry dark-robed Jedi, probably the first one she's ever met, who Owen says is his long-lost step brother. Also, she probably knew Shmi really well and heard all about little Ani. Shmi dies, Anakin is angry af, and he leaves without saying goodbye, taking their protocol droid with him. That's all she ever sees of Anakin and Padme, and she goes on to marry Owen and start running the farm, probably forgetting about those weird two days after a while.

Three years and an entire galaxy-wide war later, Beru gets a call from another Jedi, saying Anakin and Padme are dead and they left a son behind, and Owen and Beru are the only family he has left. Are they willing to take him in and raise him?

And oh my goodness, Beru DOES. She loves that pure blond ray of sunshine like he's her flesh and blood, and she pours all her goodness and kindness and just.... pours all her love into that boy, even though his dad was a walking detonator waiting to blow, and his mom was sad and distant. Beru's actual familial relation to Luke is barely there--she's like...his step aunt by marriage or something. But does that stop her? Of course not. And here's what I think.

I think Owen was worried about Luke turning into Anakin and running off to be a Jedi and leaving his family in the dust. And that's completely understandable. (Sidenote: in NO universe is Owen abusive, no matter what the fandom says. He's protective of his son/nephew. That's all. End of story.)

Owen might see too much of Anakin in Luke, but I think Beru sees all the good, wonderful qualities she saw in Shmi. I think Beru loved Shmi for the time she knew her. I can see them having a very close bond. And I think Luke is the embodiment of his grandmother in Beru's eyes.

I think there were nights where Luke lay awake in his bunk in a Rebel base somewhere and wished for his aunt again. She was his mother in every single way but blood. When Padme wasn't there to instill virtues of honor and love and patience in Luke, Beru did. When Padme wasn't there to kiss him goodnight and tuck him into bed and tell him stories, Beru did. When Padme wasn't there to wipe his tears and wrap him in a crushing hug, Beru did. When Padme wasn't there to love her son and teach him to love others selflessly and relentlessly, Beru did.

Luke might share many of his parents' traits by blood, but I believe his core qualities--what make him so pure and unbreakable--came straight from his aunt. And we just don't recognize that enough.

I just. I have so much respect for that beautiful space aunt. Rest in peace, Beru, and know that Luke still loves you, and you'll always be his mom, no matter what.

My Hero Academia

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)

Eijirou Kirishima, a.k.a. the Sturdy Hero: Red Riot. My son. He's got a ridiculous hairstyle and stupid sharp teeth. His sense of fashion is weird and ugly in a very "yeah, a fifteen year old would dress like that" way. He's tough and manly. But also friendly and understanding. It's great that he's confident in his masculinity and shows sensitivity. He doesn't have to do something blatantly "feminine" to show that gentler side. I mean, the word "gentleman" exists for a reason./j

Eijirou's backstory isn't especially tragic compared to someone like Shouto or Izuku but it's far more realistic. He has a dream but due to circumstances, there is some doubt in it. Then there's someone in his life "better suited" to the same goal that he can't help but compare himself to and he loses faith. Thankfully, Eijirou was able to be inspired once again and now he's on the road to becoming a Hero. An inspiring, feel-good story. And we get to see him grow from there. He becomes more extroverted assertive. He pushes himself and his Quirk to match his peers instead of wishing he could be them or have their abilities. He's not all the way there in terms of knowing his strength but he's getting there and that's what matters.

My instincts tell me to adopt this boy and dote on him like the most annoying mother ever.

Eri. Literally my favorite fictional child in the whole entire universe. She's cute and precious and so eager to experience things. But she's also got a terribly tragic backstory that sent genuine shivers down my spine when I first read it. I'm so happy that she got rescued and that she found a safe haven with U.A.

I mean, the way she smiled during 1-A's concert and how she explained how she felt afterward. Learning about holidays and getting them confused (Santa Eri is literally so cute like seriously look her up and the little anime clip of it to have your heart stolen by her preciousness). There's even a chapter in one of the light novels about the U.A. teachers wanting to give Eri the most awesome Christmas. That's how powerful she is, she is a scrunkly in canon!

Hitoshi Shinsou, a.k.a. it's not brainwashing you morons, it's hypnotism. ... Sorry, that kinda just slipped out. I don't think Hitoshi is as underrated as other characters in the series but he's my underrated character. We don't get to see much of the training he had to do in order to begin bridging the gap between himself and the Hero Course students but it says a lot that even with a delayed start and constraints of his training having to be done outside of school hours, he still managed to keep up with his peers. His Quirk is also greatly misunderstood, see my earlier comment. It sucks because with just a name change it becomes much less sinister and while still not heroic sounding, it's now neutral. It's super awesome that he's being brought back, maybe not to be a frontline fighter but to be a lynchpin in the final battle.

The children from the movies. Melissa, Mahoro, Katsuma, and Rody. They are movie exclusive as far as I know. And they're just... SO GOOD!

Melissa's determined and very brave in a situation where she cannot do much other than stay out of the fight. Mahoro is bold and protective of Katsuma who is soft-spoken but kind-hearted. Rody is a mess of a kid who needs a hug and a lot of money. Each one brings something to the films they feature in and have good moments that build on the series' theme of what it means to be a Hero. They are the heroes of their movies. Please watch the movies for these characters, people.

Keigo Takami, a.k.a. the Wing Hero: Hawks. After killing Twice, there's really no going back from being a controversial character. He killed a man with mental health issues who was begging for his life because his Quirk posed a threat. I'm recalling a line from somewhere that went something like "they may be dangerous later is not reason to kill someone" (I know it's not that exactly but it was something like that). And Keigo just spat all over that idea.

Then there's the attitude. He's a smug jerk who takes things too lightly on the surface but is frighteningly cunning underneath his chill persona. He's one of those characters that's entertaining when they're behind the screen but if I knew him IRL, I'd probably hate his guts.

But he's just so... physically and aesthetically pleasing to me. He's not sexy evil but sexy morally ambiguous.

horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)

Enji Todoroki, a.k.a the Flame Hero: Endeavor. He's an awful father and then some. At least he's a Hero who has benefitted society, sort of. And he's also realized he's been and still is a toxic presence in the life of his family. He just needs to be tormented more to make up for his sins.

Kai Chisaki, a.k.a Overhaul. This awful, evil, stupid, insane, monstrous man. He abused Eri and used her Quirk for evil. Literally cannot get worse than the guy that directly harmed my scrunkly for this fandom. Also, his ideology is just whack. Heroism as a disease from Quirks? Like, dude, people are going to be selfless and brave even without Quirks.

Cinderella Phenomenon

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)

Lucette. She really makes the game as the protagonist.

She's not some shy or awkward wilting flower. She's more like a cactus in the beginning. She sees feelings as a weakness and trusts no one, except her personal knight but only barely. I remember first playing this game and streaming it to friends and everyone was in agreement that Lucette was on the unpleasant side. And then she's cursed. Good for her.

From there it's struggling, a bit of humiliation, painful revelations, and lots of growth. Lucette never stops being brutally honest or a bit prickly. But she opens up, being freer with her emotions and helping others in ways she never would've at the game's beginning. My favorite moments with Lucette are often at route ends when the kingdom is thrown into strife and she insists on joining the battle. It's part duty as crown princess, part wanting to make up for how she's acted in the past, and part pure selflessness to protect innocents and loved ones.

Sometimes Lucette does take some backwards steps in character development but those are when she's at her lowest and her understanding of the world is thrown into turmoil so she can be forgiven.

Seriously, if you can, play the game (it's free) or watch a playthrough because Lucette is such a delight.

Emelaigne Widdensov. The sweet stepsister that really doesn't deserve Lucette's initial cold attitude. But, being the strong and kind person she is, Em takes it in stride and never becomes discouraged. She's always smiling, not because she's a ditz but because she is genuinely positive. There are moments when her smile falls and Lucette (and the player) learn her troubles. But most of the time, she's able to face things with a smile and that's both powerful and endearing.

What really adds to her cuteness is the sequel. She has a romance with another character, Lance, and they're so smitten with each other. I really do feel like an older sister seeing her gush over Lance, like "yes, get that romance! You're so cute when you're in love!"

I just wish she had more of a presence outside of Rod's route though. Ugh.

scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)

Jurien Valiente. She is truly under-appreciated. A tough lady knight and level-head in the game's setting. She frequently has to play peacekeeper for Karma and Rumpel's squabbling. She's seen the most in Karma and Fritz's routes, where you do see her stern exterior break away. In very different ways (ugh, Fritz's route is a burden on the heart) but that's not the focus. There's not much to Jurien but I appreciate all that we see of her.

glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)

I'm doing two characters here: Ophelia Widdensov and Sebastian.

Ophelia is the antithesis to the "evil stepmother" trope and I think the game avoids doing it in a heavy-handed manner. She does her best to be cordial with Lucette and never forces affection or even interaction because it's clear Lucette won't respond. We see her support her children in their endeavors, even if it's in an environment they're not used to, that being performing as royalty. And she has, by far, one of the best lines in both Cinderella Phenomenon and it's sequel: "Where there is love, there is hope." It's so simple and yet I can't get over it.

Sebastian, also called Sebby, is the adorable, enchanted plush that I want one of. He's mostly just Rod's voice but Sebby has his own conscience and tries to help Rod and Lucette with little observations and quips. He can't do much besides talk but his presence is still very nice.

The fact that they are only featured in Rod's route is a hate crime.

poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)

Can I say all of the love interests in some capacity? But out of all of them, I believe Rumpel has it the worst. I've always gotten the vibe that he's not popular due to being the "obnoxious flirt" trope of otome. And, well, he is a little pathetic. He gets slapped quite frequently. Sometimes it's undeserved and other times it's kind of necessary (Lucette has to get him out of his trances somehow). His good ending is also rather sad as he has to break his moral code as a doctor to protect Lucette and he's unable to save Parfait. He's sad and pathetic, that's all.

horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)

Mythros. The man just can't catch a break in any of the routes. He doesn't get to make his pitch in Rod's and he dies in every other route. And two of the four times it's by his own mentor! It's kind of hilarious how many Ls this guy takes and I would like to add to his torment.

eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)

Hildyr. Like. It's not even a question. She's killed two people, threatened the life of Ophelia, everything she did to Genero (they don't say anything directly but you know), and everything she did to Lucette. Evil, evil, evil. She's feared and hated for good reason. She had hit her breaking point, I get it but she didn't lose her mind. And that's what scary, she's calculating and manipulative while still being somewhat unhinged. She doesn't deserve just superhell. I'm inventing hyperhell for her.

oh my god THIS is how i remember that i completely forgot about twewy 2 and haven't played it ;o; googles where to get $60 fast...

anyway all of this is with the caveat that i haven't actually played the game in YEARS nor do i know or care that much about all the lore. i just based an entire core facet of my personality on the message i took away from this game as a 15 year old, as you do

i've picked out the ones i CAN answer bc im not involved in any way with fandom for this game so i dont know who's underappreciated. i know who's overappreciated tho

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)

listen you might have talked to me once about this game. and i might have spent an hour and a half talking about a character who is NOT neku. that doesn't mean anything.

to even understand what this kid MEANS to me you'd have to go back in time seven years to little high school me playing this game for the first time and the actual revelations about the world that it gave me... the way it inspired me to actually change the person i am and how i choose to live and interact w the people around me... it's like one of the core memories from inside out the movie, but it's just this game in the orb

alternatively i would have to explain the entire game from the ground up and the way this single character, THE main character, starts as an antisocial boy who sees no value in relationships with other people (as a defense mechanism, perhaps, bc he doesn't want to lose anyone else... idr if i was projecting or not at the time but i think he had a friend die. so) and who goes about his life like he doesn't NEED to bother with people at all, like they're entirely separate and never need to be acknowledged... and then he develops into someone with not just one friend, but SEVERAL people who he values so highly he manages to bring them all back to life. it's a really fulfilling story that i think about to this day, and i COULD talk for hours about how interesting i find this character, how perfect i think he is for the narrative that gets told, and how much i love the friends he makes and how complex his relationships are with those friends...

you 🤝 me hating to baby our characters... usually the characters who might fit in this category are VERY dimensional, and choosing to baby them ignores the deeper and more interesting parts of their characters. i don't love to do it, and the POINT of this game is that people aren't all just the front-facing persona they choose to put on, and it just feels antithetical to hold someone up and go hee hee look at how baby he is... that being said twewy DOES have a character who is SO shaped. i think mr mew speaks for himself

listen he's not unpopular but he's also THE image that pops into my mind when i envision a poor little meow meow... it's joshua kiryu, who is probably the character i talked about the most when i talked about twewy with you bc he has so many layers to peel back and it's fun to look at a miserable little liar with powers akin to a god and go Yeah, This Guy, Love This Guy. love this guy.

i really do look at him like noooo don't go into this game with total disregard for the beauty of humanity and come out of it having learned the value of trust and friendship along the way!! which COULD put him in blorbo territory, except that he's the nastiest little shithead in the whole game, and that's counting people like kariya whose literal jobs are to make people suffer in new and inventive ways. i have feelings for him

his core personality trait is that he never tells anyone anything, especially not the things that would be important for them to know, and decides to go about his business like he's above every other person in the world and doesn't need to bother with them. i love a good foil to my protagonists, but i especially love characters who shine a light on the ways they're different from my protagonists by being so similar. talk to me about him again sometime

also josh :) by the end of the game i remember feeling like i hadn't seen enough of him. neku and shiki and beat and rhyme all grow into people with a better understanding of themselves and the world and josh remains kind of aloof and above it all. makes me feel like he got something out of it all, but not the RIGHT things. not ENOUGH things. i would like to see him go through more events, and perhaps some of those events would be torment flavored

and even though i have no contact with whatever fandom still remains for this fifteen year old game i see TOO much of him and he can go away. i know he comes back in NEO but i dont know what happens in NEO so maybe i'll like him more after i actually get a chance to play it but until then he's just some GUY with a MEGAPHONE who needs it to be TAKEN AWAY. eeby deeby for him

i feel like ram doesn't get much attention from the fandom, partly because he doesn't have a dramatic childhood trauma like the others, and partly because the most ram-focused episode (coach with the dragon tattoo) is not very good. but he's great! underneath his cool persona he's brave, kind, extremely loving, practical, and one of the most straightforwardly... honourable of the main characters. years ago i reblogged some meta about how, if anyone is the "hero" of class, it's ram... i should find that again.

tanya is great and i love all the stuff about how she struggles with feeling babied while also definitely knowing her own worth (frequently taking on leadership even though she's the youngest by three years, trying to hack unit, etc) but honestly i wish... we'd got a little deeper into that. because there's this one line - "if this were heaven none of you would be here with me" - and i mean... i just think that if april gets to attempt murder and take over a kingdom, and quill gets to casually kill students, and charlie gets to be Like That, then tanya can have a little egomania TOO. as a treat.
