this whole ‘x reader stories are just basically lazy self inserts gifted to other people’ argument is so funny because I think people constantly forget that fan fiction is only shared with them and not MADE specifically for them..they need to realize that no author writes with some unknown person who may or may not come across our work in mind. We write because it brings us joy and we have a concept in our head we want to bring to life. Not to mention that at the sight of an OC being thrown into the mix, people don’t want to read it and it all boils down to the fact that people become so infatuated with these characters that want to be the ONLY one paired with them, so much so, they’ll stick their big ass feet into a shoe that doesn’t fit. I can understand wanting representation and finding a lack of fics for your particular demographic but rather than calling people’s work ‘lazy’ because YOU can’t see yourself in it is a choice. I write for black woken and more than likely, plus size women in mind. 9 times out of 10, if you see a character on my page, more than likely there’s an OC I’ve already created to ship with them. Instead of complaining, it’s just as easy to open up a Google doc the same way that writer did and make what you want to see. It gives entitled honestly and it’s kinda pointless lmaooo.
