felt like experimenting with some colors tonight - specifically green and yellow! I don't work with green in particular all too often so it was a bit of a decent challenge :'0

still not tired of drawing Khalan tbh xD I think I've really solidified his design to be something that I'm pretty happy with now, so it's always nice to be able to showcase that whenever I draw him ;o; he's definitely changed a lot over the years, that's for sure!

Context, always the context

After we had gagging fun - and some, a small and unjustified heartbreak, too - with the newest 🎪 pic, let's put it a bit in context. I confess I am more and more immune to these: they are aimed at this fandom, of course - just to fuel further web wars and talks: never forget Xmas is round the corner, too. But they are also aimed at the Casuals, who still can't place McIdiot on her map and do not really care, to be honest.

So, what exactly do we have, here?

After more than ten years in showbiz, our C still needs a pointer to tell ignoramuses like me where exactly she is, on that picture?

How odd. How unfair. But let's imagine I am from Mars. I have no idea who these people are, including to each other. The legend tells me nothing: just C and T and zero details. They could very well be co-workers, acquaintances, friends...? Oh, she's married to him. Oh. Ok. For sure, they ooze bliss and happiness. For sure. I've seen broomsticks act more convincingly than this.

Also, the photographer. As a very trusted friend pointed out (thank you, forever indebted to you), this Bennett guy was all over the place, yesterday. According to Getty Images (https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/search/photographer?photographer=Dave%20Benett&assettype=image&sort=best&license=rf%2Crm), he attended at least seven other high profile London events yesterday and was paid to cover them, too.

Their list immediately places this minor happening in its right context and at its right place:

"Leave The World Behind" - UK Special Screening and afterparty. The one she attended with McIdiot.

Hackett London x David Gandy Wellwear Launch Party - Savile Row tailors, established in 1983. Huge success story from a humble Portobello Road clothes stall to a 160 shops global network and a part of LVMH group (remember? LOL). The one she did not attend with McIdiot.

"Femme" - Gala Screening - After Party - UK thriller, premiered at the Berlinale last spring. Will be released tomorrow in the UK and IE. 95% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes. The one she did not attend with McIdiot.

Skye McAlpine Celebrates The Opening Of Tavola's Christmas Pop-Up Shop, in Knightsbridge (along with Fitzrovia, my favorite London spot). Tavola is a high end tableware collection, carefully curated by Skye McAlpine - celebrated British cookbook author and an expert in Italian cuisine and fine dining. You should think two gin entrepreneurs would be thrilled to meet her, at another event she did not attend with McIdiot.

A Reception By The All Party Parliamentary Group Honouring Elton John For His Dedication To The Global Fight Against HIV AIDS. No further comments needed for this very, very posh event she did not attend with McIdiot. I doubt she has this type of connections.

The Anti Slavery Collective Inaugural Winter Gala at the Battersea Arts Center in London. Attended by royalty (yeah, ok: Fergie - but also, her two Princess daughters!), aristocrats (Count Nikolai von Bismarck comes to mind), showbiz people (Ed Sheeran - hello?) and of course, the press. But this is another very high profile event she did not attend with McIdiot.

Longines Dolce Vita Exhibition and after party - aimed at the high end luxury crowd. Another event she did not attend with McIdiot.

Smirnoff Celebrates New 'We Do Us' Initiative In Partnership With Tilting The Lens And Sink The Pink. Smirnoff, that legendary vodka which story started in Tsarist Moscow and now continues as part of the behemoth Diageo spirits group. Mhm. Now with an event tailored for the well-heeled LGBT+ and Generation Z crowds, organized in partnership with Tilting the Lens, Sinéad Burke's consultancy firm with an absolutely spectacular client portfolio, featuring Gucci, Starbucks and -hey, nice to see you! - Soho House. LOL. You would think they could have grabbed a black cab and do anything to at least drop in and say hi. You would think they would be interested to meet with the other, less obvious, partner of this event, Stonegate, a major player on UK's hospitality scene. What a pity this was another event she did not attend with McIdiot!

Make no mistake. London is a real global metropolis. Une ville-monde (a World City), a notion coined by one of my masters, the wonderful French historian Fernand Braudel. As such, it currently stands at the epicenter of all that is trendy, new, exciting and expensive and it offers an endless array of opportunities for the brave and the bold. That was but a very incomplete sample of a Wednesday night on the London scene, busier than usually with all those end of year events. Out of the other seven of this sample, she had a profitable and realistic choice between at least two or three other events. She could have even coupled that after party with at least another one of those, if she had the right network to attract an invitation.

It is also plain to see, by now, TMcG is by no conceivable means the successful, multimillionaire businessman and entrepreneur. He is nowhere to be placed on this very rich, very diverse event scene. He does not attend any events by himself, whereas she carefully attends events all alone and does it very well - wouldn't that be because she has a name in her own right, too? He apparently does nothing, he apparently is Nobody. You should think a successful, multimillionaire, ambitious businessman would be proud to be seen just about everywhere with his up-and-coming actress wife, isn't it?

The sad truth is this clown only makes it to a cursory mention in a Daily Fail picture gallery when dragged along by C. At an event she most probably managed to get an invitation via Rami Malek, her co-star in The Amateur:

That, my friends, is not C playing her Greta Garbo. That is C squandering every shred of sympathy capital she ever managed to acquire, with absurd determination.

But sure, keep on screeching, Stans. Keep on screeching. All of the above are cold, hard FACTS your queens carefully keep out of your reach. God forbid you come to the realization.

Nagito Color Study | Please do not repost, reblogs are welcome though! Brushes & Techniques & a progress pic below the cut

Uhhhh okay, how to explain this one. I was rereading “Logically Lucky” by PinkSweetSmoke and some of the visuals in the earlier chapters really struck me. The way that they write this relationship is pretty dynamic, and I wanted to see if I could use colors to talk about how Hajime and Nagito feel for each other and what they’re going through emotionally? So this is fanart for that fic, directly inspired by that fic based on the established vista(s) and also the style of writing their relationship, but it doesn’t really make sense unless I say all of that lol? But it wouldn’t exist if not for that fic, so I’d feel weird not mentioning it.

Brushes used (Clip Studio, Free):

Main: “ラフペン” from gyuukotu’s “Fill Set (塗りセット)”, content ID 1695210 Fill: Default India Ink brush pen - the rough pen is a little unpredictable, so I used this to flat the image and make sure that there were no gaps Cloud Flat: "荒筆" from gyuutoku's “Fill Set (塗りセット)”, content ID 1695210 Cloud Blender: I downloaded it from the internet instead of the app 2 years ago and cannot find, with certainty, where it came from, since I get rid of everything on my hard drive that's not art every year :( there are lots of good cloud blending brushes out there for free, though, and I typically use the gouache blender Misc. Techniques: Screen Distortion: I used CSP's free cloth texture clipped above the "blue" layers and then liquified it in places for the screen distortion effect Gradient Mapping: I cannot overstate how helpful gradient maps were for minor color corrections, you guys PLEASE try them on a finished piece of your own if you haven't used them yet. Click Layers > New Correction Layer > Gradient Map and then choose from the premade gradients before adding your own so you can see how they worked. I used a few different ones clipped to specific areas w/ lowered opacity & hard/soft light settings where I felt like the color was falling flat and it was SO helpful at giving it just that little bit more depth. Hearts: I've discovered that you can cheat at hair and clothing rendering by just making hearts. Try and see how many you can find lol Color Theory in General: The whole point of this piece, after it stopped being fanart (lol rip), was to be a color study focusing on the contrast between shadow and light and what I could do within the blues & the yellows to make them appear as if they're actually different colors. In the blue section, everything is p much blue, nothing is any other color. In the sunny section, a lot of the stuff is warmer variations of the standard colors, since I wanted it to be more vibrant and didn't feel like I could achieve that if everything was shades of yellow and orange. That being said, I stuck as closely to that as possible. But ANYWAY, juxtaposing the two starkly different color profiles also helps the blues in the blue side read as colors that they aren't, which was part of why I did this study. Sneaky sneaky: I just modified the diner a bit in order to get the colors I wanted, i.e closing the blinds bc I can. As an artist it's important to remember that YOU have full control over every single part of the piece, you just should ideally have a reason to create inaccuracies/ break rules or else it can end up being a bit messy and disorganized & details/ your vision can get lost.

all of these are drawings from last year (2023)!!!! i’m gonna talk about each of them under the cut, so if you aren’t interested you can go about your day ❤️!

1: The Bakugou headshot. A style experiment!! i was trying my best to mimic elijahpiejah’s (instagram) style at the time!! it was a fun exercise to study what was unique about his style 😊

2: D&D KrBk ft. Mina. This was for a D&D bang that i was in. Unfortunately, my partner never finished the fic so i just have this pic based on one of the scenes in the outline.

3: Rody/Deku. Lukas inspired me to doodle this one if i remeber correctly. i think it was also one of the first sketches i did when i got my new drawing tablet!!

4: JirouMomo. a doodle on New Year’s Day just after midnight that was drawn in the dark lol. power went out at my friend’s house as we were hanging out 😂

5: Cherri and the Aro/Ace flag. (i designed this specific ateo/ace flag. it’s free to use if you want) tried making a profile pic for june last year but i never ended up using it. might this year who knows?

6: KrBk Shark Teeth Zine piece. this was for a Kirishima-centric zine. everyone’s writing or art had to involve kirishima and his teeth in some way hehe. I decided to draw Bakugou piercing Kirishima’s paired labrets aka snake bites!

Ok I was just infatuated with your sneak peak for GC Ch. 25 omg. I had to look at it over and over again since yesterday. Really I love your AI art for this series. This is exactly how I picture the boys in my head. Sirius' hair I'm dying. I've already spent my time using AI to create portraits of them, and it was just rubbish. Maybe I'm not advanced enough to use it properly. But I just had a look at you last art again and I just have to ask you! I have so many questions. Which tools do you use to create it? Do you rework the pics with other software like Photoshop or something? And most important, and propably the most improper question: what do you tell the AI to do exactly? You don't have to answer this one. I don't want to steal your style or anything, I'd just like to know how you get them pictured so accurate you know? And how much time do you spend in average to be satisfied with a picture to publish it for GC?

Yeah I hope I'm not rude asking you this, but I'm a big fan of your work 😭

I find it hilarious I got this question just when I was fighting with AI to do what I wanted it to do lol.

There are a lot of questions, so I'll try to be as detailed as possible. I talked about the AIs I used on this post. But basically, I recommend Bing's Image Creator that's powered by Dall-e 3.

I do rework the pics, not always, but AI always seems to confuse hair colours, gives Sirius a sandy brown and Remus black, so I do find myself switching that often (I use things like picsart, facelab, procreate and makeup+ for this). I have also done some face altering things here and there, especially when the faces don't look exactly like I want them to, for example in this one:

I wasn't quite satisfied with Sirius' face so I altered the features a little more so that they looked exactly like they looked in my head. This minor alterations I find myself doing rather often on the pictures that will be the official ones.

Now the time I spend until I'm satisfied varies, sometimes the AI image is perfect and I use it straight, sometimes I have try a few times over and over until I get the exact result I want, and that takes much more time. Maybe like 30-40 minutes to get the image and the side (aesthetic) pics I add to the sides.

Now, the most important question, what do I say? Again it varies, sometimes I find myself tweaking and altering things arounf until I get exactly what I want. For this image in particular I said something like this:

16 year old Remus Lupin (sandy blond hair, golden-brown eyes, scars on his face, handsome)holding back a 16 Sirius Black 16 year old Sirius black (long curly hair, delicate & soft features, pretty and handosme, grey-blue eyes). Remus has his hand in Sirius shoulder, they both look tense, like they want to stop a fight. Defense against the dark arts classroom. realistic art.

I remember I changed it later, to Hogwarts classroom and students standing behind but, once I get the basics of the composition I tweak things around until I have exactly what I want.

Now I find AI has some issues with side profiles, maybe I haven't cracked it yet, but I spent all my energy on Bing trying to get the right composition for an image for next week's episode and it was not cooperating with me.

I asked for this:

16 year old Remus Lupin (sandy brown hair, golden-brown eyes, scars on his face, handsome) and young Sirius black (long curly hair, delicate & soft features, pretty and handosme, grey-blue eyes, gryffindor). Remus covers Sirius mouth with his hand and he is pressing his chest onto Sirius’, they’re front to front (we see their profiles), foreheads almost touching . Restricted section of the library. they’re hiding from someone. realistic art.

And kept getting Remus standing behind Sirius:

Don't get me wrong, I loved most of this, they look amazing! But it wasn't exactly my vision. Even wasted $15 usd on DALL·E hoping it would make it better but I was very disappointed (Bing is so much better and FREE).

Eventually, I got one image that did exactly what I wanted and I'm currently reworking it to make it exactly what I want, we'll see how it goes in the end.

But yeah, I've spent almost all day working on this (using my free time at work), and only one out of all worked, so time spent on it really, really varies.

👋 Hi & welcome to my art blog! I figured it's about time I add a little about me/q&a section.

q: who are you? Marlowe, mid-twenties, they/them. This is a sideblog, any replies to posts come from my main.

q: what do you like to draw? Environments and still-lives, mostly! I get a lot of inspiration from my surroundings - a lot of my work is referenced from personal photos. Once in a while I'll paint people (which is usually fanart of some show I've been watching recently 😅) but that's more of a "I need to draw a face once in a while so I don't completely forget how to do so" thing lol. oh and sometimes I try making mini comics-like things.

q: what do you use for art? For digital, I use Procreate and a mix of default & downloaded brushes; this ask contains some info about the brushes. For traditional art, I go through phases of working with different mediums - I like acrylics, oils, gouache, watercolours, oil pastels, and colour pencils. Feel free to ask for more details on materials, but I'm by no means an expert! I just like to try stuff out :^)

q: can I repost your art? Please don't. This blog is the only place I post art these days (I also have an instagram account, marlowe.artist, but I'm more active on here.)

q: can I use your art as my profile pic/etc? Sure, as long as you give me credit.

1. Are you named after anyone?

No. Just a name my parents liked the sound of.

2. When was the last time you cried?

At the end of my relisten to season 1 of dndads, specifically when the Paeden/Walter moment happened in the final battle. Qualified it as a 1/10 (so like maybe a tear or two but not even close to sobbing).

Fun bonus fact about me, I actually keep a running list of times I've cried and associated data (intensity, short reason, crying from laughter or sadness, whether I was sober or intoxicated in come way, etc.) and have for a couple years now. Idk I just like data, it's grounding somehow. Another fun fact: the majority of the times this year have been from laughter!

3. Do you have kids?

Nope, nor do I plan to do so.

4. What sports do you play/have you played?

I haven't really played any real sports. I have done some rock climbing, swimming, and whitewater kayaking, but I'm not competitive at all.

5. Do you use sarcasm?

Yes, but I try to keep it limited around strangers. Friends with whom I have a strong back and forth/mutual understanding I can get pretty playful and silly and Down for Bits (which sometimes manifests as sarcasm).

6. What's the first thing you notice about people?

If they have a dog, I notice the dog first. I tend to notice people's smiles when I meet them if that makes any sense.

7. What's you're eye color?

Blue

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Por que no los dos? I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. I tend to not enjoy horror movies but I think movies can be scary without being horrifying. I enjoy a good movie instilled with a sense of unease.

9. Any talents?

Not too shabby at painting and drawing sometimes.

10. Where were you born?

Oregon, USA.

11. What are your hobbies?

Drawing, hiking, reading, naturalist stuff, crosswords, photography, listening to podcasts almost nonstop if that counts

How do I navigate it's kinda confusing and my ADHD keeps seeing colors and I can't figure out how to use things

Help pls 🙏

First of all, hi, welcome to the party!

Okay you figured out asks so yay! If you haven't noticed, theres also a little toggle for anonymous asks if you ever wish to send those, if I remember correctly though you can't send pics and vids on anonymous.

Basic getting started advice: use the search to find tags that you're interested in, it can be Fandom or hobby interests or anything really. You can choose to follow that tag (the option should be in the search bar after you've searched it, if that makes sense) and random posts from the tag will show up on your feed from time to time. You can also go through and follow people who post a lot in that tag that you enjoy the content of. Basic rule of advice for following people is to do it as freely as you wish, but don't feel bad about unfollowing for any reason.

And this explanation is going to be scatterbrained as I mention things as I think of them so I do apologize for that lol

Make sure you go into your settings and set your dashboard preferences to not include 'in your orbit' (or do, but most have their dash in chronological order rather than the more algorithmic version), this way you see stuff just from people and tags you follow.

Great ways to find people to follow are by searching like mentioned before, but also if you notice someone you follow reblogging someone's posts a lot and you enjoy those posts, that can be a great way to find more people.

You yourself can post as often as you want but there's a couple things to be familiar with that would show up on your blog.

The first is likes, which can be turned off (if I remember correctly the option might be when you go to edit your profile)

The second is reblogs, this is how posts get spread around. I like to think of it like likes are you telling the op they did a good job, and a reblog is you running to show your friends what you just found. It is greatly encouraged to reblog things like art and gifsets if you liked them because of the lack of algorithm on this site.

The last is your own posts, there should be a round plus button on mobile (it's been a bit since I've been on desktop but I think it's at the top?) That will take you to the text editor. I didn't llan ahead so this is the only one I have pictures for :)

Things to note: very bottom has the ability to add links, gifs, photos, audio, polls, and the Aa let's you edit the way text appears. Just above that you can add tags, many use tags for organization (I tend to use #gay thoughts for many of my own posts, eith #gay asks being added when I'm answering an ask), but there's also a huge culture around talking in the tags. Many add thoughts about the post in the tags, as anything said in a reblog will always stay with that version of a post, but tags are only visible when viewed from the actual reblog theyre on.

The 3 dots in the corner give you some additional options for your post

You can post it now or later, change who can reblog it, who can blaze it(pay money for it to appear on a number of random peopl's dashes), all that jazz!

Okay so I took a break from making digital art for a few months because as much as I love making art I started to experience problems with starting or finishing my projects. I'm not sure if I could call it an artblock as I didn't had any problems with making traditional art. I think I was (and maybe still am) going through a neurodivergent burn out caused by a lot of things in my life. I'm still on the path of recovery and getting my life together. Also, sitting in front of the screen all day had a huge impact on my mental and physical health so that's why I gave up on making digital art for a while as well as tried to minimize the time I was spending on social media overall. What pushed me yesterday to make this art piece digitally is that I was completing one of my tasks I was putting off for so long- clearing out my phones memory storage. It was such a mundane task that was taking me so long that I just had to take a break and I started doodling in my sketchbook. I drew my persona with some clouds coming out from the head and thought: wow, that doesn't look so bad. Might use it as a profile pic. I was too lazy to color it though and I didn't want to use a bland, pencil drawing as my pfp so I just grabbed my laptop and graphic tablet (they were so dusty...) and just started fucking around with the brushes and color pallete lol Anyway that's all for now Have a good one, folks

I am very partial to Nintendo! (Although I haven’t had much access to consoles throughout my life, lol)

I am in so many fandoms. So many. Video games mostly. I’ll list them off later.

Why the reborn part in my alt blog? I goofed while trying to delete a blog I didn’t use and somehow deleted the original one. Sigh.

I drew my profile pic. It’s brand spanking new, and it took a little over an hour to draw. The banner is just some photo I took a few years ago.

I can speak and read English pretty much fluently. I’m currently trying to learn Spanish (I likely won’t be able to accurately respond though.) Perdón; Yo no hablo o veo Español muy bueno.

I have not had a Personal Computer (as in all for me, no sharing, not for work or whatever,) in almost 6 years now. I mostly main my phone and iPad, lol.

I don’t trust Apple at all, my iPad is kinda old for a piece of tech, and from before I knew of their untrustworthiness. It just happened to last this long, lol.

im starting to have some regrets about the way i run this blog lol, there are a lot of things i want to change about my art and the way i use social media, and ive found that im just starting to use this account like my twitter but without commission posts. it kinda sucks. ive always wanted to have a space where i can talk about my characters and tell the stories i want to tell with them, but so far ive had so much trouble just getting people on board with their lore. im really bad at getting that kind of thing across to a lot of people, mostly because my stories have a lot of nasty shit in it them that im way too self-concious to put out into the world. i havent shown it to anybody but a couple friends. i wouldnt mind that but theres kind of a growing imposter syndrome ive been feeling. nobody on either of my public accounts really understands what im trying to do here because i keep everything that could ruffle feathers behind closed doors, and so i feel like i cant engage with my audience on a more mature level. all anybody can see is a small slice. this place is barely connected to my main, where a backfire or dramatic shift in tone could actually effect my income, so why do i still do it? im so stuck in this mindset where im too afraid to post anything too extreme, and the more i do it the more im stuck like this. it feels like the disconnect is so unbelievably huge already, i dont even know how id start being more authentic online lol. sorry for the long post, i think i might just change my profile pic on here and try to differentiate this place from main. maybe try and make it feel more personal and less modelled off my brand-y main account on twitter. it could just be the similarity between accounts making me act the same on here when i really shouldnt. anyway thats all.

My old reblogging blog profile pic! @/releeblogreborn. This was way before I changed my user, so that’s my old signature on it! I don’t remember when I drew this, or how long it took either. Again; Fuck (Mobile) MediBang.

My first profile of 2023! This is my precious blorbo, Filigree! I’ll make beep’s own post soon, so just have this one. Also, I ended up redrawing this for reasons including; facial features were wrong color, experimented w/ new brushes WHILE lining it, so the lineart looks wack, & they fade in w/ the background.

Like lol your avatar is full of fanon creations from the hair streak which is fanon to elseworld only canon in the main comics to the 100% fanon scar. You just stuff of quality and depth. Fanon has that if you look. Canon is not inherently better. The comics are great and should be read but don't lump every fan creators work together and make it one thing. Fanon isn't unified and it disagrees on every aspect you brought up. Find fan creators that make content in your fan interpretation as well.

My profile pic? Yeah, it is a drawing made by Nick Robles! I love his art and that was a personal drawing that he made and shared on his twitter.

I know it is fanon, you are not revealing anything knew to me. I have headcanons myself, I even have whole ass ideas of how Jason's story could have been told.

My biggest headcanons are that Jason's eyes changed to green after his was dipped in the Lazarus Pit (for absolutely no reason other than he would look handsome BUT they don't glow or anything of the sort). Another one is that Pre-New52 Jason and Dick could have been friends if they just tried AND my absolute favourite one is that Jason Todd is aromantic.

Maybe we have come across different things but some fanon creators do mix up everything BUT once again, I don't say that fanon concepts are bad what I say is bad is treating fanon as canon to the point where people thing that fanon IS canon. People fight other people on comics' facts with fanon facts all the time. I don't know how long you have been in this fandom but when I came in the biggest fact about Jason Todd (not fanon Jason) was that he hated Dick Grayson because he had been the absolute worst brother to him AND that Dick had thrown poor baby Jason into Arkham with Joker just a cell away.

None of that was real. Now, it is the overuse of the Lazarus Pit, or better said the use of the Lazarus Pit as a motivator or actual thing that made Jason make the decisions he made back in the "Under the Red Hood" days. It is not about eye colour, or scars or whatever. It is about convincing people that Jason's autonomy was never his and that his actions were never his.

They were his! And that's what made his character unique, you take that away and you don't have Jason Todd/Red Hood, you just have someone else in the Bat lore...

I don't NEED to find "fan creators", I have my own headcanons that I have talked about here and I agree with some headcanons too BUT that's beyond the point because the problem doesn't lay with the headcanons that are treated as such, the problem lays with the part of fandom (if you will) that completely disregards Jason Todd the comic character and builds up this whole new lore to fanon Jason Todd that absolutely dominates the tag. The Jason Todd tag is fanon Jason Todd. It has been for the longest time.

Also, my fan interpretation of Jason isn't (wasn't) the point of this blog, this blog meant to be somewhere to find things about comics' Jason, the Jason Todd that I actually love (Pre-New52 Jason that is) and give my opinions on things that I want or I am asked about. I am not really here for fandom business anymore, at least not in the comics world, it is just a thing that I can barely enjoy really.
