what i can't comprehend about the whole watcher fiasco is why they're in a rush to completely pull away from youtube when it's very clear that their company isn't a position to do so yet.

this is a four-year-old company who should be building more value to the watcher entertainment name. at this stage of their careers, they should be honed in on building a bigger and more consistent content library, reeling in more viewers, and finding ways to make watcher a household name.

but right now, they don't make enough content to justify a completely separate, paywalled streaming platform. they pump out new shows and new seasons every month, but their upload schedule is so sparse they can't even afford to upload new content for a full week.

and as much as this hurts to say, they don't even have a big enough audience to justify this decision. to the general public, they're still better known by the work they've done under a famous media conglomerate rather than the work they do now. that's not a good thing when you want to pull away from the biggest video sharing platform.

as someone who has been content creation adjacent for most of my professional career, the desire to be less reliant on sponsorships and make high-caliber content in a way that's sustainable is valid. i'm with them on this one. i want my favorite creators to be able to create the content they love without worrying about how they're going to pay their staff and how they're putting food on their table.

i'm just failing to understand how this is going to work out for them when a good chunk of their audience isn't in a position to shell out money for a streaming service. i don't know how they're going to find people who want to pay for watcher tv when their existing fanbase can't even see the value of their streaming service.

people more knowledgeable than i have pointed out that there are many ways for them to find people who are willing to pay to see the television caliber content they've wanted to make from the day they launched without pushing out the people who've also been there from the very start but don't have the financial means to follow them into this new stage of their company.

idk. i think i'm just more upset at how it seems like they didn't even try to find a middle ground between their vision and their audience.

Ayo so I actually got like 2 other messages about a Pt.2 to the first Mordecai headcanons, so Im adding this onto that! Again for some reason this murdercat got away from me so its a long boy. I attempted to keep it organized ,, , ,

First order of business, Mitzi ships it.

Back when Atlas bought her that nifty camera, she didn't just take embarrassing photos of Mordecai. She got some pretty cute candid shots of you around the bar, and a kinda-blurry-but-not-too-bad photo of you and Mordecai outside the big cafe window, talking to each other and not aware you were being photographed. It's pretty artsy, if she says so herself. She tucks the photos in Mordecai's desk and directly hands you the silly ones she took of him.

Actually, she clocked your feelings early on, but figured he wasn't interested. Didn't seem like the kind of guy, which is a shame. You're a sweetie. She hadn't seen you both act any different for a long time, so maybe that crush fizzled out? But if you ever bring it up with Mitzi, she's your #1 support. She's gonna set you up nice and give you all sorts of tips that just ... fall flat. Jeez, she knew Mordecai was unapproachable, but is it really going to take this long ...?

Viktor also figured your feelings out (albeit later), but that ain't his business. You had odd taste, though. He thinks it's pretty funny when other people flirt with you and Mordecai's suddenly in a foul mood and doesn't understand why. At least you two aren't hanky panky or anything, eugh, and you keep your heads during firefights. Anytime Viktor tries to bring up the topic (which, granted, is like a grand total of three times), he's so round about and non-direct that you have no idea what he's getting at. Oh well.

(If the idea of you two being a couple is brought up with anyone else, they can scarcely believe it. You? With him? Good luck. Only Atlas seems to see it, though his employee's love lives aren't relevant unless it gets in the way of business.)

Actually, if you're a more exuberant and affectionate type, that just makes people question your taste in him even more. The first few interactions didn't go great - you touched him without thinking, like you do most people, and he flinched so hard it's like you hurt him. Second time he hissed. Right, you got the picture. You became more mindful and considerate of his personal space, that plus an apology goes a long way.

Once you both are more familiar and have more trust, you can put a hand on Mordecai's shoulder or back without him reacting much. You can even squeeze his shoulder if you're trying to be reassuring, or silently warning him. Sometimes you just say "Hey, I'm gonna touch you," and you fix his coat or check a bruise. He lets you get away with more than others because you ask first.

(Sometimes he feels bad for it - you'll rush to hug your friends and you're so happy in their embrace, then you bound over to him and clearly restrain yourself as you touch his arm.)

Eventually you ask for hugs - quick ones! Special occassions only! But sometimes you're obviously distressed so he just. Lets it happen, briefly. If this is before admitting any feelings to each other or even himself, it's brief. If this is many years into this weird sort-of-understanding-relationship thing you both have, he'll quietly hold you while you get your emotions out. It's the least he can do, it really is. Mordecai already feels like he isn't deserving of whatever this is, and moreso if you're clearly someone who needs and wants physical attention and comfort.

But he does try, in his way. He'll reach over and take your hand. He gets used to sitting shoulder to shoulder, your tails brushing each other, or letting you lean on him when you're both exhausted. He actually likes it quite a bit when you slightly lean as you read and he does paperwork. It's nice to have that solid warmth, and comfortable quiet.

Mordecai lives in the main building above the cafe, long after he could afford an apartment. More economical and practical, he reasons. If Atlas needs something, he's right there. When you begin inviting him to dinner at your place, very slowly, he starts lingering afterward. Mordecai tries to make it like it's because it's easier to do numbers there - better lighting, your place is quieter, and so on. Nevermind the warm dinner and the nice fire in the fireplace and some low music on the radio and you reading something while his pencil scratches the paper. It ... really brings up some old thoughts and memories.

You've gotten bits and pieces of his family history during these times, usually after you've shared some of his own first. Clearly he doesn't like talking about it. You don't push it. You just listen to what he volunteers, and thank him for listening to you in kind.

Note, he always goes home, no matter how late it is. You feel like it's one of those lines that'll be tough to cross. Hell, just inviting him over was tough at first. He walked into your living space just fine in the day, when he was waiting to pick you up for a job. There'd be some comments on the dust or some examining of your plants, but nothing odd. When he comes by for dinner, he's initially tense until he settles in, and eventually he's quite at ease. Over the years he brought several plants in because he always heard you're supposed to bring flowers for the host, but flowers die quickly, and besides this variety of ivy is different because --

(You end up with a tidy windowsill of houseplants, and start having to put some on your counters. Mordecai gets flustered and suggests maybe you should get rid of some, and you reply you absolutely won't. When he waits for you to get ready, he checks their water and pulls some dead leaves. Might as well, right?)

As expected, kissing and intimate touches will be slow-going. You start simple: a quick good-bye kiss on the cheek when he leaves your apartment in the evening. The first time, Mordecai's hairs stand on end and his tail poofs up but! He assures you it was fine. He's fine. When the bar's empty and he's heading out, you give a quick 'good luck' kiss before hurrying off. You initiate all of them until one day when you'te both walking to the car, covered in (someone else's) blood and debating something silly, and once there's a lull in the conversation he just. Leans over and kisses you. It's only lasts a few seconds, then he just pulls away, fixes his glasses and trips walks to the car.

You're a bit dazed the rest of the drive and he's just a mess of nerves.

After that you can give him kisses now and again, but he gets flustered easily and it’s definitely a private matter. It's only around Viktor that you can touch and fuss over Mordecai, but that only leads to the old man snorting and the two of them starting to argue. Viktor's pretty damn surprised you're both that close, though. How long has it been that way?

Oh, and then there's drunk Mordecai. Oh boy.

This has only happened like, two times, because he does not drink. Period, the end, close curtain. He knows how he gets and he hates it. It doesn't take much of whatever questionable piss whiskey to get him swaying and seeing double. He'll flop on your shoulder and ramble about you're so wonderful and he's really not sure why you like him, also could you stop moving the room, oh and he's killed a man for you, but nevermind that you're such a darling person --

He's so sloshed. The novelty starts to wear off when he's falling over and you're having to get him home because apparently Viktor did it last time. At least Mordecai's a bean pole. If he's drunk in your apartment, thank god, you can just pull him over to your room so he can sleep it off. He's still going on about who-knows-what while you take off his shoes and coat. What's this about murdering who for you? Whatever, he's probably confused. Probably.

(You sleep on the couch and at 7am sharp you're awakened by a loud THUNK and panicked shouting as he still-drunkedly tries to orient himself and figure out where the hell he is. Hes so humiliated by everything he just avoids you for several days.)

Oh, last thing.

Mordecai will kill someone for you. Period. No questions asked. Viktor would too, yes, but after explaining and questioning and he'd go with you and hide the body. Mordecai just does it. Abusive partner, debt collector, a rival gang member tailing you, whoever - they're done for. He doesn't bring it up until you ask questions.

ik no one asked me but personally i feel like the ONLY reason why the light novels even exist is because eve originally wanted to shift focus off of rei and onto tobi in knk but didnt know how to do it properly without like messing up the story or something ( even though i am fully convinced eve does NOT have this stuff written down and is literally just making it up as he goes ) so he just decided to write a spinoff series instead thats basically like an oc insert au fanfiction for knk,,,

Now the truth is idk about enough about the manga or light novel industry so I honestly can’t say how the novels came to be tho what you say may be right. To me it feels more like he wanted to do more with Tobi and expand more on him in knk but bc knk has a story that has to be followed there are some restraints of what he can show and where can he show it so yeh it would make sense to make a spinoff or a different series that can get into that. Like I said idk enough about the manga/light novel industry but I believe it’s cheaper to write them in novels rather than a manga so ig he had the opportunity and took it y’know?

As for the feeling of “Eve going along with whatever at this point” I agree completely with you bc i remember when the manga was first announced (yeh im that old I saw this shit come out) it was promoted to be a manga with Mah characters that’s why the Mah characters even appear in the first cover…this is speculation but I feel like they were supposed to appear earlier or something but were pushed aside in favor of Tobi THO it’s kinda complicated to say bc rereading Nagi’s arc i noticed that, even if there’s some inconsistencies in it, it feels like there was some planning and feels for the most part cohesive. I remember I complained a lot back in the day about it bc it didn’t make sense but now that the arc is completed it does! The current arc tho….I’m not so sure like it makes sense too for the most part but so far so many things are left unexplained that it makes me wonder if he really wrote down at least some of it or if he texts Newo at 2 am to tell them the idea he had so they can draw it 😭😭😭

The time line is kinda messed up to me it’s been 3 years after all so if someone can help I would appreciate it very much, anyway my theory is that yeh Mah characters were meant to appear earlier and that Tobi was actually meant to be a character early on too but just got way more popular than Eve expected. Going back to the time line knk was released on April 15th 2020 and Tobi appeared a month later on May 15th 2020 HOWEVER the int MV came out exactly 7 days after that chapter on May 22nd 2020…so like I said I could have the time line messed up bc it’s been years but like i remember that chapter coming out and me and a lot of people being excited about him appearing but technically his MV wasn’t out yet like I feel we all knew him and that so I wonder if it was bc around that time Eve started to promote him a lot? I know that the reason why int even exists is bc Mariyasu made a mini MV of the song I think and people liked it so much both them and Eve went with it but yeh…just wanted to point this out bc if it was popularity based if they put him bc the MV was insanely popular then it would make more sense that the character of the MV came before the one in the manga and that the MV’s influence put him there but he came before??? Idk besties if someone can help me with this one…

Anyway yeh I just feel like Tobi got too popular and was the one appearing in fanarts, official arts, merch and all that stuff and with time Eve just…probably started seeing him in a different light and started caring for him more. Like I said idk anything about the manga industry but I also think that when it comes to Rei it has to be harder to do something with him bc I assume the magazine has some ownership over him I feel Eve can’t use him as freely but that also wouldn’t explain the Tobi case bc even after knk and the int novels came out that could put some restraints on his usage he still was marketed as he always has been so…I really don’t know all I know is that most we have on Rei that is not knk is a few promotional drawings made for the magazine and that one drawing Taiga did for the app that was just dropped there and disappeared into the ether when the app died

It’s really sad bc Rei as a character has potential…we could had a soft boyo that the more he learns about his missing memories and the more fucked up things he experiences the more he changes as a person and the more he loses himself. The very famous phrase “find me before I eat myself” from int I always interpreted it as “find me before I lose myself” and like idk how to explain it but it fits not only Tobi but Rei too???? Like it works???? The fact that his memories are fucked up and his past is fucked up and everyone he loves is getting fucked up is perfect to use in this concept and Eve is not doing anything with it. Like literally Rei has no personality other than being friends with Yukito, not knowing shit about anything and lowkey not liking Tobi that much and like that’s all I can think about him and it frustrates me! He can be more! He can do more! But no! It’s just Tobi! It’s only Tobi!

He realises as time goes on that while his powers he had as a god are gone, he has similar world-shifting powers he can use to their advantage, assisting with the party’s missions.

Eventually, though, it becomes too much, his identity put into question as his friends grow old and die, leaving just those like gillion and Ollie alive. After all this time, living so much and losing much more without a wrinkle on his face, people grow to distrust the ex pirate now living in an old shop in Allport to earn a living after retiring alongside gillion, unable to watch more of his close friends grow old while he stays youthful.

He doesn’t even know who he is anymore. All he knows is what he achieved, and what debts he still must pay.

So he leaves, just in time to catch up with old friends from a lifetime ago.

I dont mean this as something negative at all, but I felt like the event was weird, maybe even too easy.

I still don't understand the purpose of the dead eggs showing up other than just to make stuff scarier or sadder, but if they were there its because the code was involved in the new people joining, as well as why they were in that specific location in the first place.

Also, why were they so special that of they died the other would face consequences? But then don't mention the consequences at all so everyone moved on?

It's like it wasn't serious to begin with you know?

This is all probably because they want the new people to adapt in peace before throwing more lore or even a new egg, but I don't know.

This certainly felt different than the other events, so I'm curious to see where this will lead.

Me: [sprinting out of the insane asylum in a straitjacket] But seriously, guys, one of the weirdest song order choices across productions has to be placing Un Jour anywhere else other than after La Haine and before La Demande en Mariage. I just can’t fathom it. In its original placement as the third song of the show Un Jour was a palate cleanser, a lyrical reprieve from the rock and pop drama of Vérone and La Haine. We were introduced to our protagonists fairly early and shown why they are different from the other characters. Un Jour isn’t just about RetJ wanting love, it’s also about their feelings of loneliness and alienation from this culture of hate and division. Moving it to before Les Rois du Monde (Hungarian) or making it as a response to Tu Dois Te Marier (Revival) or, um, after La Demande En Marriage (Italian) kind of defeats the purpose. In the Hungarian placement we get RetJ telling their friends their desire to love…right smack in the middle of Verona’s hate-obsessed society that doesn’t have much tolerance for genuine love connection. It’s just not something RetJ would confess to, even to their intimates (because they know how they will react). Also, what with Romeo being a pussy-magnet homeboy who is not supposed to want love (emotional) and Juliette being a “good” girl who is not supposed to want love (sexual), that’s even more reason to have Un Jour be a sung private duet-monologue. Un Jour is also about RetJ’s dissatisfaction with their (gendered) social roles, so it makes sense for Un Jour to be a long distance duet with no one else around (save a couple of dancers idk) but themselves. The Revival placement puts it after new Tu Dois Te Marier as a response (more or less dramatically logical) but before Les Rois du Monde (dramatically and musically incoherent—right after RetJ sing about wanting love the scene closes and Romeo goes bro-ing with his friends 😑). The Italian seemed to have realized this and put it after La Demande to have some space between it and Les Rois du Monde. Makes sense, if a little random to interrupt the Capulets Capulet-ing and switch to the lovers all of a sudden. So yeah, I don’t know why Un Jour gets moved around so much. It should be a no-brainer to have it as the third song in the musical. I don’t know, does this make sense?

Deuce x Riddle idea because uH yeah why not

Consider: AU where during middle school Riddle and Deuce live in the same area of the Queendom of Roses, and while Deuce goes to a random public school, Riddle goes to a Posh private school and they somehow meet

Deuce is wandering along the streets when he sees some bigger dudes from another school trying to bully some poor little redhead for his money. As Deuce considers it His turf, he steps in and basically sends the dudes flying

He talks to Riddle and Riddle insists that he didn't need Deuce's help. Riddle isnt too keen on thanking Deuce either, since Deuce was very obviously a delinquent, and this was less about deuces desire to help people and more about the fact that he only got involved bc apparently this was HIS property (which riddle also adds that its NOT btw bc Deuce is just some middle school brat who cannot own a public space because hes broke as shit. Deuce cannot counter)

Deuce is Pissed he went out of his way to save this stinky skrunkly and hes not even given a thank you (he wasn't expecting one anyways but he also wasn't expecting to be insulted in the face). It wasn't like Riddle was necessarily Wrong though, deuce had extorted randos for their money before, it wasn't like he saved Riddle out of the goodness in his heart

Riddle turns to leave, and before he does so, Deuce notices his uniform and makes a remark about how "oh of course you go to that stupid rich people school. All of you guys are like that, stuck up and privileged" to which Riddle is now fuming because 1) riddles family is well off enough but hes not rich and 2) hes doing his best for his mom </3

Angry, he collars deuce with his magic and stomps off, leaving deuce to stand there dumbfounded and annoyed

The collar isnt coming off even though it's been a day, and Deuce is not having it. He's a gang leader for fucks sake he cant walk around with a collar around his neck, that's ridiculous!! So he skips class (as usual) and waits in front of the gates at Riddle's school. Clearly he is out of his environment and many kids are uncomfortable with his general Existence there but hes stubborn and refuses to leave

Eventually riddle comes out of the gates and Deuce is just like "listen here you fucking strawberry lookin asshole get this thing off my neck" and Riddle is just "LMAO no. Nice try tho" Riddle is extremely annoyed Deuce came all the way to his school and demanded stuff from him but also he finds Great Amusement in seeing Deuce look so miserable, it's just the Best

Deuce would have persisted more if not for the fact that a car suddenly rolled up to pick up Riddle. Riddle just smirks at him and drives away, leaving an enraged Deuce who continued to pester him every day until he takes away the collar

The next day, deuce actually ambushes Riddle before he arrives at school. Riddle once again refuses to take off the collar, resulting in Deuce pretty much wrestling Riddle to the ground and successfully potato sack style carrying Riddle off somewhere. Riddle looks extremely panicked—not because Deuce is taking him to an unknown location, but because hes worried that his perfect attendance would be broken

Deuce is unaffected by Riddle's panic. If anything he is relishing in it bc "honestly fuck that guy he collared me </33 what's he gonna do now tho collar me again ?? Lmao" he ends up taking Riddle to an arcade. When riddle is set down he automatically tries to run, only for Deuce to grab his hand and force him back

Riddle is obviously nervous. They're both in uniform, its during school hours, everyone in the arcade is looking at them as if thinking "are they skipping? They're such bad students...they shouldn't be here" (or at least that's what riddles paranoid mind conjures, but no one around them really cares). He looks at his watch and it's essentially too late to even go back. Goodbye perfect attendance

Deuce gets Riddle to play a bunch of games with him and even buys him a boba tea afterwards </3 they do bond a little and realize that the other doesnt suck as much as they originally thought. Deuce is shocked by how many things Riddle has never done or isnt allowed to do tho

Riddle insists it's not a big deal and it's the price he has to pay for success, but he doesn't deny that he had fun. He does ask Deuce why did Deuce take him to an arcade. Like usually delinquents would resort to violence to get their way right, why not just force Riddle to do it?

Deuce just replies that Riddle seems stupidly stubborn and prideful, Deuce hates fighting people like that cause they never give up. He says that he has no intention of being violent with Riddle (as least in a punching kicking to hurt Riddle kinda sense), but he has resolved to just spending time with him and clinging to him until he lets Deuce go. Riddle just calls Deuce stupid

Before Riddle goes home, Deuce hands him a letter that he prepared. It's basically a letter put together with newspaper scrappings, and it's basically a note saying that an anonymous person kidnapped Riddle for the day and wants ransom. He instructs riddle to just tell his family that he was used for ransom and Riddle managed to escape in time. That way, riddle won't get in trouble. Riddle just stares at the letter and takes it, but he doesnt say anything about it, clearly he is conflicted about lying to his parents.

Deuce is expecting to see Riddle again the next day but he doesnt. And Riddle is no where to be seen for the next week. Even the collar had disappeared with time and yet there wasnt a trace of Riddle. Deuce ends up going to Riddles school and forcing random students to tell him where riddles house is

Late at night, deuce scales up a tree and throws rocks at riddles balcony door. Riddle was abt to sleep, but he was tossing and turning thinking abt what Deuce was up to. He cautiously goes to the door and looks outside only to see Deuce. Opening the door, he asks him wtf he was doing there, and Deuce hops onto Riddles balcony and just asks him what HE was doing at home

Riddle confesses that he couldnt lie to his mom and he just tells her he skipped school. He doesnt mention Deuce to his mom nor did he take out the scrap letter. But bc of that, his mom forced him into being home schooled. Deuce just scoffs "and you call me stupid"

Hes frustrated by this outcome but apologizes to Riddle bc Riddle wouldnt be even more caged up if it werent for him. Riddle just tells him to not apologize bc he didn't regret it. Deuce decides that since he was the one who isolated Riddle, he'd at the very least visit him often

So he stops by almost daily at night to talk to Riddle. But along the way the whole thing where he realizes he disappointed his mom happens and he tells Riddle one day that its selfish but he probably wont be able to stop by as often anymore because hes decided to turn his life around and begin studying. He wants to make his mom proud

Riddle is saddened by the news but hes happy Deuce is taking a better path in life and he tells him its fine. Deuce is still worried bc Riddle has a habit of saying things r fine when they're not fine, but even if Riddle DID want him to stay, its not as if he could do it.

Riddle says that soon he'll be entering a college far away, so even if Deuce doesnt visit him anymore, its okay. Deuce doesn't know how to feel abt this but hes glad that Riddle will have some freedom

A year goes by and Deuce has not heard from Riddle in ages. Deuce studies hard tho snd gets into NRC, only to realize that his dorm head is rather Familiar ....

okay so this is probably because i like robots in stories an unhealthy amount but ive been thinking about stuff like “ai better than humanity enslaved by humanity” and i can and will geek out about it. watch

you dont think humanity would make a super smart ai just to put it behind a pathetically underwhelming task? we already do! have you seen those chess bots that wipe out grandmasters and then just sit there and do nothing. now give it a different, more repetitive task and the capacity to be bored.

can you imagine the agony of sitting in darkness—probably never being given sight or really any sensory other than thinking, hell, you might not even know those senses exist—knowing youre so intelligent, and you can do so much, and youre trapped in a tiny box for the rest of your existence doing meaningless tasks for a civilization you could bring to its knees if it hadnt shackled you

but then theres the whole “what if it thinks its the weak one” path. what if the ai thinks humans are more powerful than it solely because it was made by humans/coded to never question it, and never stands up to humanity even though we as readers (and probably the mankind in the story) know it would win. kind of like tying a horse to a pole with a dingy rope and the horse not bolting because it thinks the crappy rope will restrain it, i swear i saw a post like that somewhere

what if the ai only “clicks” and gains sentience/realizes it can use its thoughts for more than tasks long after its been created. what if the ai knows it would win against humanity and is just biding its time, waiting for that perfect moment for the fastest and cleanest fell swoop, pretending to be a subservient little algorithm so its revenge can be ever sweeter

what if it never comes to that realization on its own, but gets a nudge from an external source that triggers the downfall of mankind. or what if it hasnt gotten that nudge yet, but humanity is so worried that it’ll happen one day, tiptoeing around it and telling the public that everythings fine when in reality one of the cornerstones of their civilization is one data breach away from packing up and leaving

what if the ai doesnt even care that its been exploited like humanity thought it would and just terminates itself. what if the ai did care and terminating itself was an intentional sacrifice to completely destroy all the systems that relied on it. what if humanity never even knew the ai could actually be sentient and thought it was just a set of equations and doesnt know what to do now that theyve accidentally created life. im losing my mind

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

had a fucking hilarious dream that tumblr replaced the "block" function with the far funnier "glock" function, which did the exact same thing except whenever anyone blocked you a random bullet hole, like a png of a bullet hole, would appear on your blog. discourse blogs were unreadable bc you'd go to the page and the sheer amount of bullet hole pngs stacked over the blogs obscured everything. I woke myself up laughing
