hello helloo! i just read through your modern au and I'm in love (shocker), i wanted to ask if you'd give some more info on poppy? apologies if there's already a dedicated post to her, looking is not my specialty

there is not! i will gladly ramble!

in this au, Poppy is slightly less fearful than canon. this is for several reasons! 1) years of therapy. 2) anxiety meds. 3) teenage years of her friends dragging her out for Shenanigans & hyping her tf up! but she's still a worrywart! she's very cautious! she can and Will see the bad/dengerous side to every situation. but! now she has the tools to not only cope with but combat her intrusive thoughts & fears <3

i think i mentioned it before but she Did Not Realize she was trans until highschool! specifically, when she met Sally! Poppy had to stop by the theater department after school for some reason or another, and Sally noticed her looking longingly at the costume dresses (Poppy thought she was alone lol)

and while Poppy was mortified at being caught, Sally was delighted. they only knew each other in passing and from reputation but Sally started holding up dresses to Poppy and complimenting how well they suited her. (i could joke about how Sally could sniff out the lesbian in her before Poppy even knew she was a girl!) Poppy, flustered by the sudden attention and apparent acceptance, didn't know how to handle it and fled. then started avoiding Sally in the halls. but! eventually she had to go back for Insert Reason Here, and ofc Sally was there. this time around Sally is a little gentler and less assertive, but manages to coax Poppy into checking out the more ~feminine~ costumes again. thus begins their little meetings where Poppy tries on costumes and Sally is her biggest hypeman

it takes a while for things to Click in Poppy's mind! it isn't until she tries on a dress that Sally custom-made for her, wearing some makeup and a wig, that Poppy has her oh moment. unfortunately, some of their ~mutual friends~ (Wally, Barnaby, Howdy) walk in on them. there's a short, terrifying moment where Wally is all "who's your friend, Sally?" and Barnaby has to lean over to let him know "that's Poppy, bud". before Poppy can fully freak out, Wally immediately goes OH! and starts complimenting how pretty she looks. Barnaby chimes in next to ask if the dress is home-made bc it fits Poppy beautifully, Howdy nabs a necklace from the nearby gathered accessories and put it on her to "tie the outfit together". in short! Poppy finds nothing but support from her buddies & they're more than happy to help her figure out this new internal crisis / revelation

then of course eventually she's found out by her family, which goes very well (im using sarcasm! it goes terribly!). Poppy isn't outright disowned or kicked out or in immediate danger, but her relationship with her family is ruined by their transphobic bigotry. her friends have her back throughout this, and the guest room at the Beagle farm is always open to her! Sally continues to make custom clothes for Poppy (something that becomes a love language for the two of them <3).

honestly, this period in Poppy's life is part of what like... idk... strengthens her, in a way? her continuing to be herself and actively rebelling against her family, i mean. Poppy becomes a pretty stellar liar lol (lying to her parents about where she's going, who she's hanging out with, what she does after school, etc). she's very cautious about all of it, but she does it! she's determined to pursue and discover and Realize the woman inside her! i have this sweet scene in my mind of the Group at the Beagle farm chilling on the floor with notebooks, brainstorming on possible names. (Sally enthusiastically says a variation of 'exquisite' to each one, and then when Poppy says 'im not sure about that one' Sally - still enthusiastically - says a variation of 'horrible terrible how could you suggest such an ill-fitting name'). despite everyone's efforts, i like to think that Poppy finds her name entirely on accident! maybe during the Gap Year Road Trip! maybe they stop by a SoCal poppy reserve in superbloom and the flowers Resonate with her! who's to say!

but Poppy begins her (medical) transition in college! she, of course, gets shit for it, but she also begins to find community and enjoyment in the local queer community. and of course, she has her buddies <3

but anyway! i like to think that Poppy participates in local farmer's markets with her crochet work & baked goods, the latter of which is a complete hit! that, plus her first experience with going to a tearoom inspires her to strive towards owning her own! tearooms are right up her alley, i'd say - calm, quiet, and Poppy can make peoples' days a little brighter with a tranquil atmosphere & delicious treats! i swear i have a reason between 'Poppy british = she goes into tea business'. honestly! tearooms are more about the tiny sammies & tasty cones w/ cream! and feeling Fancy while chatting!

i think it takes a while for her to actually be able to start up a tearoom. I'd imagine she starts by holding a small, single-table reservation-based one in her own place once the Group decides on what town to move to. it's successful, slowly (but steadily) grows, until she can get an actual House and transform the ground floor into a full tearoom. lil shop by the checkout counter, several different rooms, a sizeable kitchen. staff! the tearoom is a humble one, but it's a killer holiday & tourist destination! the high ratings even bring in people from out of town!

and when it comes to Poppy & Sally, bc yall know i'm a sucker for Popstar - i like to think that they start dating after (mostly) all of them move into their new town. & after they both have been in prior relationships! and then they never stop dating. well, they do, but that's so that they can upgrade to Wife Status. and then they never stop being wives so there <3

but Poppy is successful and happy! she had a rough go of it but she Makes It! and she continues to make it!

heyyyyy first off i am SO so sorry it’s taken me so long to get to this. i’ve been going through a lot of complicated personal stuff the past several months and it’s kept me off of social media…but i am back now! hopefully. i may not be the most active but i will try my best!!

NOW FOR THE QUESTION !!! DICE is a little funny for me…i love them so much and yet my mind’s perception of them constantly shifts…i can never seem to think of anything concrete for them. i love most theories about them to where i can’t decide which ones to believe in myself. like the 11th member…i really like all of the explanations people make for them. from cameraperson to pet to kokichi’s twin. I can’t decide which i like best so they’re all true at the same time for me.

for things that i CAN decide on…hm. Well they are Definitely orphans to me. and i think that like…that horse head in kokichi’s room? they all have one of those. they like to wear them regularly i think. it’s an extra mask. it gets pulled off their faces scooby-doo style to reveal the clown mask underneath.

and i Really like the card nicknames headcanon. but i think they have more than just standard deck names. like there’s Heart, Spade, Club, Clover, Ace, Joker. then you’ve got shit like Wild +4. Basic Darkness Energy. A Deal With Dark Ruler. Sour Cream From Steven Universe. they’re an unpredictable bunch…you can never guess what nickname they’re gonna use next.

the last one actually has an explanation. in an rp from like. jan 2019 i think? it was with DICE members and one of them pointed out how this guy’s hair looks like sour cream from steven universe

and in hindsight their hair is actually not that similar at all they are both just pointy. but that has stuck with me. and it’s funny. so i’ve been calling that member Sour Cream ever since

and speaking of comparing media…i imagine the group to have a dynamic similar to Giovanni’s Boys (gender neutral) from one of my favorite shows, the hit webseries epithet erased. they’re a gang of teenage petty criminals who are initially low-ranking members of an Actual criminal organization pyramid scheme but they eventually leave after giovanni proposes making their own evil organization. they’ve got goofy nicknames like Dark Star and Crusher and Flamethrower and Car Crash (but you can only get one if you earn it). giovanni wants to be a supervillain so bad and he is the sweetest guy ever who loves his minions so very much. these snippets from the book really fit DICE i think!

i look at them replacing hot dogs with cattails, and i nod and think…yes…DICE would do that…stupid but fun…that’s all they want…

they have their differences. giovanni and his boys (gender neutral) are very stupid. but i think the fundamentals of them both being groups of teens who just want to have fun and commit harmless petty crimes and who care so much for each other is Wonderful. i often think of this song to be DICE’s theme song even if i don’t think they are actually like how the banzai blasters are in the song. they’re smarter. But it’s a banger. i find them both very very fun (i think about kokichi saying lines from ee often…i have a list)

And this is not really a headcanon but i like how in the group photo everyone else has pants that at least Reach their ankles but kokichi is a rebel and wears pants that are just slightly too small for him. why does he do that. Weirdo (affectionate)

WIP Wednesday Game

I have put words into profic, and since not sharing it, here is a snippet from Music Man!

Darcy walks Agatha past an ice cream parlor, past a pub, past a billiards parlor that looks like it’s getting a new table, past an impressive looking library for a town in the middle of nowhere, outside of town square, down one of the streets with houses and white picket fences that make Agatha grimace, to a little bitty house, not much different than the others, except that the flowers seem brighter somehow and the fence seems whiter somehow and it seems realer somehow than the others, in a way that makes Agatha wince.

“Where are you taking me, dear?”

“Oh, I got a little house,” Darcy explains as she opens the front door wide.  Her head wobbles one way and then the other.  “I guess Jane got a little house and I just live here, but it might as well be mine.”  She leaves the door open as she walks inside.  “She tried to teach me how to make tea, but I keep burning it.  Should be some in that new fridge she made!  I’ll get us some.”  Then she turns just enough to give Agatha a wink.  “With something a little better.”

Agatha nods as she enters the house, as she shuts the door behind her.  She scans the room, taking in the pastel wallpaper, the couch that seems both well used and well loved, the floral pattern crocheted into one of the throw pillows, the actual throw pillows and throw quilt over the back of the couch, and taking in all of this, she starts to feel a little sick.  “Darcy Lewis, have you settled down?”

Hmm. I honestly don't have much ref for historical, tbh. (I am fascinated by how many people ask me for historical headcanons when I have 2 timelines I know vaguely anything about. lmao) But lemme see what I can come up with.

I feel like Norway and Sweden were probably closest in Viking Age. Everything I can remember and vague research says that Denmark is youngest, so I can see Norway and Sweden being super close because they're all they had for the longest time.

When they were in Union, I think it went over better than when Norway and Denmark were married. In part because of their previous relationship together. I am also one of those people who HC that they're a little more controlled by their bosses rather than the other way around -- so I feel like there's a little less strain between them when they know who's behind decisions; but it doesn't always make it easier to bear. (I feel like a marriage between two nations because of love would be different than a Union, too. Unions are political, but I think a marriage would be personal.)

Okay, that's about what I got for in-verse and historical. I don't do a lot of in-verse anymore, so now that I've muddled, lemme get a little pickier.

So way back to the Viking Age, because that's where most of my knowledge lands anymore. I think it probably goes without saying, but Norway was the storyteller. He was the one who was closest to any shaman or "seer" and took all the lore very seriously. Sweden was more the protector. I'd like to think that he was more the support between the two of them and their travels and experiences.

(Fun fact: I headcanon that Norway and Denmark were the water/boat experts and Sweden got seasick. Norway was constantly trying to help him with that.)

I also don't know that they ever labelled their relationship. I always kind of feel like labels are a new thing, even where marriage is concerned, so they were always just "close". And they didn't unpack that until more modern times when they had a better way of describing what they were. Even still, I don't think they label themselves as being in a relationship. They just are what they are together and no word -- ancient or new -- can describe it.

And, uh, that's about all my brain is willing to crank out atm. Hope that's what you meant!

How the Feisty Five doing in the au? Or it is now Feisty Six with Clover?

The Feisty Five are still rooting and tooting in the Wild East! Here's some character notes ✍️

Clover is the unofficial sixth member of the Feisty Five. They're still called the deputy of the Wild East even if they can't always help out with the tourist attractions.

Their group dynamic is a lot more healthy and respectable since Starlo apologized. Really, the only thing they argue over is the name of their posse. No decision to change it has been made yet.

Ed is also Starlo's "deputy" and right hand man for any Wild East issues, since he doesn't have to live in hiding LOL.

The Feisty Five run the Wild East tourist attractions a bit more seriously now, and it's developed into an even bigger town. Starlo has to make money to raise his human kid now after all.

Ed lost his eye protecting Starlo during a mission gone awry. Starlo still feels incredibly guilty over it, but Ed doesn't dwell on it much or blame him for it.

All of them have hobbies or jobs outside of simply running the town with Starlo! Ace also runs a small casino in the Wild East, Moray has taken up tailoring and making outfits, Ed and Mooch teach self defence and other cowboy tips and tricks for visitors (really, Ed is there to stop Mooch from pick pocketing attendees)

"Mask" is a trash bag and plastic bottle with a wet rag inside (made by their respective Engineers.)

"Flamethrower" is an ignited stick covered in pine resin.

In battle, either Pyro will take a mouthful of a mixture made from prey's fatty oils and tree sap and spray it on their breath onto the ignited stick while aiming with their tail (think a fire breather.)
