Obey Me! Boys as Baristas in a coffee shop
I myself am a barista and so I feel qualified enough to make assumptions :P Enjoy
(includes foul language lol)
Lucifer
- The opening manager
- Clean freak
- Always has a rag tucked into the pocket of his apron
- Arrives fifteen minutes early every morning and complains about it
- Keeps everyone on task during rushes
- Will passive aggressively argue with customers
"I want a medium cappuccino. Don't make it a latte. I don't want milk to the top, I want about two inches of foam."
"Ma'am, please do not speak to me like I don't know what I'm doing. I'm aware of what a cappuccino is and how to make it. Unless you'd like to come behind the counter and make it yourself?"
- Will snap at his crew when he's stressed and apologize for it later
- Freaks out when nothing is stocked
Mammon
- Strictly an order taker on most days
- Can not remember recipes to save his life
- Constantly gets into these long, drawn out conversations with customers and has to be reeled back in
- Honestly great at customer service, but totally fake
"Bye, guys! Have a good one!" *Turns around* "Holy shit they were fucking annoying."
- Has a crush on every good-looking person that comes in
- Pretty good at memorizing regular customer orders and tries to have their order saved into the POS system before they arrive
- LOVES making pup cups. He considers it the best part of his job. Will argue with Satan over who gets to hand it out
- Always gets stuck mopping the floors because no one else wants to do it
- Will straight up eat espresso beans
Levi
- Actually a very good barista
- Memorizes recipes and measurements really fast
- Can be seen carrying multiple drinks in his arms during a rush
"I've got the entire first and second tickets, so don't worry about those."
- So bad at customer service. So awkward. Not allowed to take orders unless he knows the person
- Will start dancing on the line when he thinks he's alone. Runs to the back and hides when he realizes a customer was standing at the counter watching him
- Eats a single croissant on his break
- Puts 6 shots of espresso in his drink every day. Lucifer is deeply considering cutting him off
- Won't take a bathroom break until it's an emergency
Satan
- The baker
- Usually opens with Lucifer to catch up on baking. He hates this and ignores Lucifer the whole morning
- Loves to decorate cupcakes and sugar cookies for the holidays/seasons. Always gets compliments on them
- Him and Asmodeus always come up with the specialty drinks every month
- Fights with Diavolo every day about making the coffee shop a cat cafe instead
- Would rather make food orders than coffee orders
- Gets stuck prepping everything
- In charge of inventory orders. Won't even ask anyone to help him because he doesn't trust them to do it right
- Gets so frustrated during rushes
- Will slam things until he's forced to step outside to take a breather
- Will argue with customers if they catch him on a bad day
"Jeez, seven dollars for a latte? Are you kidding me?"
"Well, yeah, it's a dollar-fifty up-charger for oat milk."
"That seems ridiculous!"
"Listen, I don't make the prices, lady, now are you going to give me your money or not?"
Asmodeus
- Employee of the month
- Literally so good at customer service
- Everyone loves working with him because he's constantly getting tipped
- Addresses regulars by name and compliments them
"Liz, did you change your hair? It looks so good!"
*Gasps* "I love your nails! Where do you get them done?"
"Good morning, Ron, are we just doing your small French roast today?"
- Is also confident in his ability to take orders
"Wow, I really am just a delight to talk to."
- Always leaves milk on the counter or forgets to close the fridges after making something
- Keeps forgetting to empty the espresso pucks after pulling. Pisses off Levi to no end
- Likes making cold drinks over hot drinks
- Doesn't even like coffee. Drinks chai lattes almost exclusively
- Flirts with customers
- Refuses to count registers
"Nah, I'm too cute for math 😊"
Beel
- Closing shift manager
- Keeps getting in trouble for sneaking bites of food between orders
Lucifer: "Beel, you cannot keep eating pickles out of the container when you're not wearing gloves that's cross contamination."
"Try and stop me."
- Every customer's barista crush. He's completely clueless to all advances
- gets hangry and snaps at his coworkers
- eats some pasta salad and is perfectly fine afterwards
- Closing shift always calls on him for customer complaints because he's such a large individual and can be really intimidating
- Will procrastinate the closing list all day and haul ass for the entire last hour to get it done on time
- Holds a lot of grudges against his coworkers but doesn't say anything to avoid conflict
- Will be fine all day but blows up at the slightest inconvenience
- Likes to take the trash out so he can decompress in peace behind the dumpsters
Belphie
- Hates his job
- Only works there because Beel convinced him to apply
- So clumsy
- Always spills drinks
- Won't argue with customers but glares at them from across the counter
- Counts registers at the end of the night
- Complains about everything
- Wants to start the closing list five hours before the cafe even closes
- Will purposefully mess up drinks for customers he doesn't like
"One Soy latte. You're all set." *Under his breath* "Joke's on you, bitch, that was 2%."
- Talks about putting in his two weeks every month but never actually does it
- Always forgets to write dates on items he opens
Diavolo
- The owner, obviously
- Has no idea how to do anything, so he leaves the brunt of cafe work to Lucifer and Barb
- Tried to make coffee for a customer once and forgot to put espresso in it
- Hands things out to the wrong customers, so the boys have to remake orders constantly when Diavolo's working with them
- Has to be restrained from making terrible business decisions
Diavolo: "Hey, what if we did a Bloody Mary bar on the weekends?"
Lucifer: "Not happening."
Diavolo: "Well, it's a good thing I'm the owner and can do whatever I want 😝"
Lucifer: "WE DON'T HAVE A LIQUOR LICENSE."
Diavolo: "Oh... How do you get one of those?"
- Goes on a cruise every month and leaves the cafe to be run by his employees
Barbatos
- Exhausted
- Handles all finances
- Sees a mouse one time and loses his mind
- Clean, clean, cleanCLEANCLEANCLEAN
- Quietly cries while he signs paychecks
- Has a nervous breakdown every time the health inspector stops by
- Stops Diavolo from making OSHA violations
Undateables as customers! (bonus)
Solomon
- Kind of a dick
- Leaves 50 cent tips
- Always complains that his black coffee is too cold
- Will not drink it unless it's 200+ degrees
- Always asks for a sleeve even though he's been told multiple times that it's already built into the cup
Simeon
- Gets a really complicated drink but all the baristas love him so it's okay
- Large iced dirty chai with 2 shots of espresso and oat milk, light ice
- Usually leaves a tip that's more than his drink
- Gossips with everyone that works there
- Super patient no matter how long it takes them to get his order out
- Diavolo keeps trying to give him a job, but Simeon is smart enough to kindly refuse
- Brings his work and sits in the lobby for hours
Luke
- Orders a hot chocolate (frozen or hot depending on the time of year) with whip cream and rainbow sprinkles
- One time he burned his tongue so bad that Lucifer gave him free drinks for a week
- Luke would just put the amount the drink cost into the tip jar instead because he felt bad
"You could pour hot coffee in my lap and I'd probably apologize to you."
- Asked for a job once. Mammon convinced Barb not to hire him on grounds of "he's so annoying."

Summer 2023 Anime-Round Up
A pretty mediocre season of anime tbh. But still some hidden gems to be found and appreciated. RIP to Zom 100 btw lmao. Anyway, here's the round up!
Anime of the Season: Bungou Stray Dogs 5th Season
Best Opening: Ao no Sumika (Jujutsu Kaisen S2)
Best Ending: Akari: (Jujutsu Kaisen S2)
Drops: Tenpuru, Liar Liar
Plans to Watch at a later date: Bang Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! , Dark Gathering, Spy Classroom Season 2
Completed:
Jobless Reincarnation: Season 2 - (6/10)
Tumblr media
They told me that this season was just Rudeus trying to cure his ED. Too bad I didn't believe them. Not a fan of the "Solve my heartbreak over one of harem girls dumping me by finding another one of my harem girls" narrative that went on for 5 episodes more than it needed too. Unsure if I'll come back for more of this. After 3 cours of this show, I think I can confidently say I just don't like Rudeus.
Horimiya: Piece - (8/10)
Tumblr media
Not every side-story worked for me, but most of them were pretty good. I just love how stupid and honest these kids are. Sometimes, the way anime glorifies high school life can be overbearing, but I can't help but wishing I enjoyed those days more whenever I watch this show. Gonna miss it.
Remi best girl.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc Part 2 - (7/10)
Tumblr media
Definitely felt the exhaustion I remembered when reading the manga. I'm not sure what's Kubo fascination with long strings of fights while the plot stands completely still. Didn't enjoy it during the Arrancar arc, not enjoying now. At least Squad 0 redeemed themselves (somewhat)
My Happy Marriage - (8/10)
Tumblr media
Still believe this show would be better if it didn't have all that supernatural stuff. Nevertheless, still enjoyable romance. Mio is a great lead and her development alongside Kiyoka was really good. We will be there for Season 2.
Reign of the Seven Spellblades - (6/10)
Tumblr media
Remember when "Magic High School" was the genre that was oversaturated? Me neither. This show was enjoyable but had some weird moments. Also for once, I'd like a magic show that doesn't obsesses over the reproductive system. Probably won't watch any foreseeable sequel. Still rooting for Nanao to get that kiss.
Bungou Stray Dogs 5th Season - (9/10)
Tumblr media
Actual Peak Fiction. Igarashi and his team at Bones just know how to make this show as stylish and cool as possible. Also this arc is by far the best one we've gotten so far. Could feel the tension at every episode where crazy shit happened. Shame I can't read the manga to find out what happens next lol.
Undead Girl Murder Farce - (8/10)
Tumblr media
Now this is a show that had style in every corner of its being. Undead Murder Farce with just so fun to watch. The trio of Aya/Tsugaru/Shizuku is one of my favorites in recent times and the side characters we very memorable. I think the last arc when one for 1 or 2 episodes more than it needed too, but still enjoyable nonetheless
EDENS ZERO 2nd Season - (7/10)
Tumblr media
This season was a lot more darker than what I usually expect from Mashima. Wish the presentation wasn't so exact to Fairy Tail, but it has some high points that exceeds it's sister series. Probably will check out the manga if a third season isn't announced sometime in the future.
Fate/strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn - (8/10)
Tumblr media
An anime series by the team that did all those FGO commercials is any fate fans dream. Cannot wait for the full show of this. I hope Aniplex gives them enough time to animated this (they probably won't)

MY TOP 15 BL SERIES OF 2021
I did one of these for 2022, so figured I should do one for 2021, 2020 and then one for the shows before that. I started watching Bls seriously at the start of 2021, and its been such a fun journey. These lists are probably more so for me than anything else but maybe someone will find them helpful when trying to decide which ones to check out... let me know what your favs are!
1. We Best Love [Taiwan] - To date, my favorite BL series thus far. IMO it really has everything. Great premise and storyline, great acting and dialogue, and amazing chemistry between the main two, plus decent enough intimate scenes and kisses. It really ticks all the boxes for me. Plus, I love a good rivals to lovers storyline and samyu are pretty darn sweet.
2. Utsukushii Kare [Japan] - This one is a bit messy and there are definitely some problematic elements, but gosh, it's so entertaining. From start to finish I was hooked into the storyline and the relationship betwene the main two. And I think it was a well-rounded story with a good ending, so it left me pretty satisfied. For a Japan series too, it had a nice kising scene in the finale.
3. Light on Me [Korea] - Adore this series, and finally we get a longer Korean BL. The main characters were adorable, and the show was light enough and funny but had some good drama as well. Not the best kissing scenes ever but the main two's chemistry made up for it imo. Very sweet series.
4. To My Star [Korea] - This one took a few watches to grow on me but in hindsight its one of the better BL's out there (lets not talk about season 2)... the storyline was fun and it was one of the first Korean BL's that I watched, so it was a good one to start on! Korea goes unmatched for me with their BL's.
5. Kieta Hatsukoi [Japan] - Not a lot to say about this one tbh, I would have to rewatch to really give some better insight but I remember really enjoying this one. Japan BL's can tend to be a bit dramatic and sometimes a bit dark, but this one was so light and fluffy. It was a nice change of pace.
6. Don't Say No [Thai] - Okay, storyline wise, this BL kind of dragged for me. I didn't find the premise overly interesting. HOWEVER, Jafirst and their chemistry really made up for it. It's obvious how comfortable they are and their kissing scenes were one of the best scenes from this year. (We won't bring up THAT scene with FIAT in episode 2 (or was it 1?) because I lost my brain there.) But yeah, we'll just say this series was very enjoyable haha.
7. HiStory 4 [Taiwan] - This was a solid season. Not the best the series has ever done but I love that each season is different. The brothers storyline was a hot frickin mess but the main pairing was cute. Overall, I just found it very enjoyable.
8. Peach of Time [Korean] - Is this Korean or Thai? Not really sure, but it was a cute season that felt like a bit of both worlds. Not the most amazing chemstry or storyline of all time but it was sweet and interesting to watch. It had a certain charm to it.
9. You Make Me Dance [Korean] - It's hard to find a korean bl I dislike. And while this one is not that memorable compared to some others, it was still a nice watch.
10. Tale of a Thousand Stars [Thai] - People go crazy for earth+mix... they aren't really my cup of tea. Nothing against them, they are sweet, I just dont go crazy for them. The setting wasn't really my thing either but I did like the energy between the characters and all their cute moments and scenes, so it kept me entertained. Wished they had a better last kiss though.
11. Lovely Writer [Thai] - Found parts of this boring and the storyline didn't really hold my interest all that much but I did enjoy the scenes between the couples. I wish the side "pairing" had gotten more focus cuz that kiss on the street was great! But it was nice.
12. I Promised You the Moon/I Told Sunset About You part 2 [Thai] - Part 2 was nothing compared to season 1 at all. Season 1 imo was masterpeice and season 2 was just like a typical bl series imo. I hate cheating storylines so this series made me pretty mad haha but it wasn't UNWATCHABLE and I still liked the chemistry between the main 2.
13. Nobleman Ryu's Wedding [Korean] - The time setting wasn't really for me, but it was a cute and fun series. Not much else to say!
14. Fish Upon the Sky [Thai] - TBH I don't remember a WHOLE lot from this series and am planning to rewatch for pondphuwin, but I do remember enjoying it.
15. The Tasty Florida [Korean] - Again, can't go wrong with SK for me. But, compared to the other Korean series, this one wasn't AS good. Still enjoyable.
Honorable mentions: (Won't go into detail on these, but overall I found all of them nice and pleasant to watch, but they didn't grab me in the same way as some other series.
BxJ Series - (still have yet to see it but I did enjoy season 1), Bad Buddy - (watched a reactor watch this so technically couldn't add it to my list, but will try to watch it eventually), Be Loved in House I Do, Tinted With You, My Sweet Dear, The Man Who Defies the World of BL, The Novelist, Behind Cut, Stuck on You
Also check out my lists from other years! https://gothicbarbie.tumblr.com/post/705678223200174080/my-top-bls-of-2019-and-earlier https://gothicbarbie.tumblr.com/post/705674738528354304/my-top-15-bls-of-2020 https://gothicbarbie.tumblr.com/post/705139242020618240/my-top-20-bl-series-of-2022

I was tagged by @variousqueerthings to share mash thoughts!
1. Whose overall narrative feels the most satisfying to you?
I have three different answers. If I take "satisfying" to be doomed from the start haunted catharsis? Hawkeye, obviously. It's incredibly satisfying to see a sitcom without much * turn into a beautiful heart breaking eleven season long mental health spiral.
Then there's Klinger, who has the most satisfying narrative from a meta perspective, seeing a one episode gag turn into a beloved character who begins showing up in the credits and gets a big wedding and farewell.
Then there's Charles and Margaret, who graduate from narrative foils to complex and likeable characters with lots of memorable and :') moments.
2. Whose finale narrative feels the most satisfying to you?
Literally the ones above. Hawkeye and Charles make me both tear up every time and Margaret and Klinger make me go :') with pride to see how far they've come.
3. What's a post-canon headcanon that you have (about anything or anyone)
I think they try to hold at least one other reunion to see each other again with all their families in the same hotel on the anniversary of the party
4. What's a pre-canon headcanon that you have (about anything or anyone)?
I think Trapper and Charles vaguely met in Boston at work (maybe at a conference or maybe their hospitals collaborated on something)
5. Who's a secondary/tertiary character you wish you could have seen more of?
Honoria, Bigelow and Kellye.
6. What's a headcanon you have about a non-main character?
I think Kellye got all of them their Hawaiian shirts (yes I know they were popular at the time and sold in different places but I like the thought that she is their main Hawaiian shirt dealer and I think it's also the only explanation why Charles has one)
7. Who's your single episode MVP?
Inga <3 She said Trans Rights. Shout out also to British UN guy bullying Charles, Brandy Doyle the burlesque icon, Tuttle and Park Sung.
8. Share a headcanon about anything that you don't get the chance to talk about enough
Charles listens to "Songs on the Death of Children" because of his brother :)
9. What's one of your favorite non-romantic dynamics on the show?
Potter and everyone. He's just so dad and grandpa coded and I love how a lot of that was just Harry Morgan being Like That. Potter just adopted an entire camp of weird traumatised kids.
10. What's an underrated dynamic overall on the show?
Klinger and Mulcahy being besties <3 Klinger being the only one attending services and Mulcahy telling people to compliment his gloves lives rent free in my brain. Runner up is Charles and BJ making 2 separate people believe they are seriously sick because they were annoying. Absolute gremlins and they should have worked together more often.
11. What's a moment that was shocking to you?
Just the entire episode George. I was 15 and just figuring out I could be queer and watched an entire episode from the 70s set in the 50s. Really rewired my brain back then.
12. What's a moment that you could analyse forever?
Just about anything in Dreams. Shout out also to the coffee scene in sons and bowlers because everyone needs to have one small line in that episode that makes them foam at the mouth, right?
13. What's a moment that you want to watch over and over?
Movie Tonight. Any moment from that episode. Also just the entire episode. It's one of my feel good episodes and it's just sooooo <3
I tag: all my lovely mashtuals and anyone else who wants to do this (bonus points if you haven't seen mash and just commit to the bit making things up)

Day 30: Most memorable moment
This category can go in so many directions. I can choose a moment that was utterly terrifying and that is certainly memorable. I can choose a very happy moment those are obviously memorable or I can choose a moment that may not be memorable to anyone else but spoke to me so it is memorable to me.
I had previously chosen a moment for this and began to type out my explanation but as I was typing I realized that it is actually perfect for Day 31.
I thought some more and decided on what made me want to even watch Outlander. Back in November of 2021 I was flicking around on Netflix looking for something to watch. I had all about exhausted everything good on Netflix due to Covid and lockdowns. I had no idea what Outlander was. I had never heard of the show, the books, Jamie Fraser, or Diana Gabaldon. I had no idea who Sam Heughan or Caitríona Balfe was. I have no idea how long Outlander had been on Netflix before November 2021, so I really don't know how many times I passed it while looking for something to watch. Little did I know what was about to happen.
A preview of a show came up on the screen and this woman was yelling at this poor guy about The Battle of Culloden. She was dressed in period clothing, while he wasn't and there was an old car in the background. Sure, I'm bored, I'll give it a go.
Tumblr media
I think I must have binged the first 5 episodes in one day. I was hooked and became a little obsessed. I feel bad for my poor husband who has had to endure my endless ramblings about Outlander, Jamie and Claire Fraser. He has seen the entire series and watched Season 6 when it aired.
So for me, this is my most memorable Outlander moment because this preview is what got me interested enough to watch it.

30 questions tag
No one tagged me because I'm not really active in here, but this popped up on my "for you" page and I thought I would do it because why not
1. name/nickname: Kira. That's a nickname, I keep changing my mind on whether to share my real name around here or not
2. star sign: Virgo. And then it's Virgo Rising, Taurus Moon, Venus in Leo and I forgot about the rest (I'm not particularly into astrology, but after doing so many of those "pick an image according to your sign" things on twitter I've ended memorizing some stuff lol)
3. height: 164cm
4. birthday: September 7th
5. favorite band: Nowadays it's a split between Ghost and Poets of the Fall. I'm also listening to Voyager and Lord of the Lost a lot since Eurovision (yes, I'm an eurofan of sorts)
6. time: 4:50pm
7. favorite solo artist: ... I can't really think of any at the moment? I usually listen to bands more than solo artists, but I suppose either David Bowie or Freddie Mercury are always a very sensible choice (and very true because I love them both)
8. song stuck in your head: Buddy Holly's ‘Everyday’. Blame Good Omens for that #is it July 28th yet
9. last movie you watched: I rewatched 'Murder by Death' for the first time in many years. There's a few actors I love in that movie but... it hasn't aged too well imho.
10. free space!: Watch BBC Ghosts if you haven't yet! The last season comes out later this year, it's a wonderful show (truly funny and wholesome) and the fandom is *lovely*. That's it, that's what I'm using the free space for, you'll thank me later.
11. last show: I'm currently jumping between several (very different) shows, but the last episode I watched was 'The Thick of It' 3x01
12. when i created this blog: February 2023. I have been on Tumblr before, but for several reasons I decided to start over
13. what i post: I mostly reblog stuff about my favourite actors and fandoms... I should make a list I guess, in the meantime feel free to check my archive page to get an idea of what I like :)
14. last thing i googled: I searched about known side effects for some medication I've started with recently, because I'm feeling much more tired and sleepy than usual. Doesn't seem like it's related to the meds though.
15. other blogs: not really, no. I've thought about starting side blogs for some stuff, but I would only neglect them because I don't really have the time. I'm neglecting this one enough as it is.
16. do i get asks?: not very often and I'm terrible at replying in a timely manner anyway :') really sorry about that
17. why i chose my url?: When I watched the first season of The White Lotus I fell in love with Armond (Murray Bartlett's character) and the [SPOILER] tragic trainwreck of sorts that he goes throughout the season [END OF SPOILER]. The whole introductory scene to Armond and The White Lotus resort has him telling Lani, a new trainee, that the White Lotus experience is nothing more than “tropical Kabuki,” with the staff serving as “pleasant interchangeable players”. I thought it was brilliant and so funny and for some reason my immediate thought was that it would make for a great social media username. So that's exactly what I used it for a few days later, when I was picking a url for this blog. I've ended up using it in a couple other places, too.
18. following: 66 blogs at the moment, mostly people that I share interests with or blogs about my favourite celebs/fandoms.
19. followers: 16. I'm not very active in here so I'm thankful for every person that follows me despite of that.
20. average hours of sleep: 6-7 if I can. During the Summer months that number is significantly lower tho :')
21. lucky number: I don't know if I have one... I like 7, 9, 6 and 13.
22. instruments: I sort of can play drums and keyboard, but I'm self taught (I've learned mostly by ear) and a bit clumsy. I own a bass guitar but I've barely touched it, I hope I can make time for it soon because it's the instrument I've always wanted to learn (yeah, I know; bad mental health era and so on, it will get better)
23. what am I wearing?: tank top and underwear because it's too bloody hot to wear anything else, tyvm.
24. dream job: there's several, but poster illustrator/designer is the first one that always comes to mind.
25. favorite food: almost any chicken dish, I think.
26. tea or coffee: both! It depends on the occasion
27. nationality: Spanish
28. favourite song: I can't pick just one, so I'll give you a classic choice from my 'On repeat' spotify list: https://open.spotify.com/track/2Y7ndoyiIm0IaFJa13gV3H?si=ded0711cd472473e
29. last book i read: I'm currently reading 'Coming Out Under Fire: The History of Gay Men and Women in World War I'
30. top three fictional universes i would like to live in: this question is way more complicated than it would seem at first glance, so let me just settle for: Middle Earth, the Shire in particular, during a peaceful time.

Once Upon a Time
One upon a time, I was born, 3rd daughter of three, my parents last attempt to have a son to carry on the family name. They lost. I was the typical youngest, unwilling to accept the status quo and always looking to invent new ways of doing things. I wet my bed until I was about 6.
My mother, in her wisdom, put a pot in my room so if I had to pee in the night, it would hopefully wake me up enough to get up and pee in the pot. My mom had great ideas, but her follow-through was not so great. She never emptied the pot in any reasonable time frame (like daily).
So, one day, being the precocious little one that I was, as the rest of the family was cleaning house, I wanted to do the same, so I got a rag and washed down my dresser, a mirrored old monstrosity, with the contents of the pot in my room. I still shudder to remember this. And I can still remember the smell. Luckily, one of my sisters realized what was happening and stopped me, but not before I had scrubbed the entire top of the dresser.
I can still see my room, with my bed with the metal headboard that was painted to look like mahogany. I remember every time I hit that thing it went off like a gong that could have awakened the household. I am also reminded of the time that my cousins came to stay with us. Their mother, my father's baby sister Annette, had died of cancer, leaving her children behind. I've struggled to learn the time line for this event and still have some questions about this branch of my family.
Tumblr media
This is my grandmother and her husband, Joseph with their children, except for my father, who was born between Blanche and Edward. It's also missing 4 of my grandmother's sisters. Of interest to me is Jean Steward (Kinsell), who appears to be my aunt Annette. This woman is buried with my grandmother and Aunt Blanche, but I don't have a clue who she is and there is no one left alive to ask.
What I do know is that she had two children, Loretta and Roger, who lived with us for a short time. I remember the long car ride to pick them up in St Louis, and our car had 2 back seats. They didn't have car seats in those days (apparently children were considered expendable) so I just loved to switch between seats. Of course, my grandma wouldn't allow me to do this without moving with me so I never got to occupy a seat by myself.
I'm often amazed by the memories that I have stuffed inside my head. I would have been around 2 or 3 during this time. Loretta was the older of the two and while I don't remember what she looked like then, her behavior toward me was far more memorable.
My father worked summers at Riverview Amusement Park and they often sold off extra equipment at the end of the season. That year he brought home a stroller. This bright orange monstrosity weighed about 60 pounds and my mother said it was nearly impossible to tip back to go up the curb. So what happened next was surprising.
My sisters and their friends were riding bikes around the block while I sat in my orange stroller. Loretta watched me while they played. My mother said she was tipping my stroller back and right before the tipping point of balance, she would drop the handle, causing the stroller to thump forward and this made baby me laugh. We won't go into the possibility of concussion or neck or back injury.
One moment she was entertaining me and the next, she dropped the stroller backwards, causing me to fall out and hit my head on the bar. I remember the pain, and I remember walking up the front sidewalk and seeing my mother appear in the screen door. Next I remember standing on the lid of the toilet, while my mother held a Kotex pad to my head which was bleeding profusely. I remember being wrapped in a sheet or something similar, and laying in my mother's arms while we waited for my dad to come home from work so he could take us to the hospital to get my head stitched.
Stay tuned for part 2 of this exciting saga.

Freaky Movie Fall!
happy halloween! for you, beloved followers, I’ve compiled a list of 31 days worth of movies to watch this autumn! (<- would've been for the month of October if I weren't already 13 days late, but what can u do lol) these aren’t all horror movies, but a mixture of: horror, fucked-up, and/or simply the vibes of the season.
quick disclaimer: altho I recommend all of the movies listed here, I also highly recommend checking a synopsis or doesthedogdie.com before watching anything you're unfamiliar with, as this list sometimes jumps between family friendly films vs. actually disturbing films. but for your convenience, I’ll also be making note of each title's MPAA rating, and I'll be starring the title with an asterisk (*) if any version of the movie includes a sexual assault scene.
(also if the organization of this post only makes sense to me, so be it hdfghf)
Part One: by god it's fall
1. The Plague Dogs (1982), PG-13 - an animated talking dog adventure that's maybe a bit more for adults than children, this movie features tragic (and sometimes outright gruesome) content without it ever feeling forced or out of place for the weird yet moving story being told. never has a movie made me care about cartoon dogs more than this one.
2. Ginger Snaps* (2000), unrated but around PG-13 imo  - a coming of age supernatural horror(-comedy?) where a werewolf curse serves as a metaphor for puberty. this movie really hits the nail on the head for what it's like to be a Weird Teen, while also discussing some really interesting themes surrounding codependence / leaving unhealthy childhood habits behind.
3. The Blair Witch Project (1999), R - I'm not usually big on found footage shaky cam horror like this, so I put this movie off for such a long time, but boy am I glad I finally gave it a shot. not only did the blair witch kick off the genre, but it more than perfected it imo. the arguments between the characters can be a bit grating and long, but if you don't mind watching a family vacation simulation for a few hours, the built up is worth it.
4. The VVitch (2015), R - although this horror doesn't have the most memorable plot imo, the atmosphere and setting are both notably great. yeah that's about all I've got to say about this one. there's some cool goats in it too? give it a shot!
5. Re-Animator* (1986), R - what if an unhinged medical student discovered how to bring the dead back to life? what if he were gay enough that the tumblr lgbts love him for his crimes (for.. some reason?) yeah, this movie's not my fav but regardless it's still a classic good time 80s sci-fi horror movie, and the gore effects are campy as hell. literally what else could you possible be looking for from this list? this is a movie to watch with popcorn and friends.
6. Pink Flamingos* (1997), NC-17 - ok lets get into it! this postmodern exploitation comedy film (yes I had to google that) is the wildest mix of fun(?) lighthearted humor plus... literal-shit-eating and foot fetish sex scenes (not at the same time). total autumn vibes and what I'd describe as "baltimore core" aesthetics (if you grew up there, you'd know), but definitely not for any fainthearted viewers. for what this movie lacks in horror, it makes up for with everything else it has going on. personally, my fav part is when a block party kills and cannibalizes a group of cops. divine plays the main character, who's also named divine. I've run out of things to say about this that isn't just a content warning list. if any of u ever call me out, please include "is a fan of pink flamingos" in that google doc actually.
7. Watership Down (1978), PG - here's a good breather after that last movie, and serendipity to round this first section out. animated by the same company as the plague dogs, and based off a book by the same author as well, watership down is probably the #1 infamous "violent and bloody animated animal movie". but if you haven't seen it since you were a kid, now's the time to revisit it. its reputation is blown out of proportion - the violence is no worse than, say, a warrior cats AMV. but the story itself? genuinely great and withstanding. this one's been my fav since middle school, for real.
(putting the rest under a read-more for length! u should know what to expect by now wrt the genre range I'm covering here as we only move further down the iceberg)
+ here's a wayback machine link in case the read more ever goes down x
Part Two: creature feature
8. The Thing (1982), R - now THIS is some classic 80s practical effects horror. it's been too long since I've seen this one but I remember the tension being palatable. oh my god they made amongus into a movie??? also there's a fucked up evil dog! idk what else to say about it, I'm scared of antarctica now lol.
9. Ju-On: The Grudge (2002), R - the third installment of the ju-on horror series, this movie has great special effects and memorable ghosts. if you haven't watched any japanese horror movies yet, this is a great intro.
10. Bram Stoker's Dracula* (1992), R - uh oh babyyyyy we're in vampire territory now!!! although the slow plot of dracula routinely fails to hold me, the beautiful cinematography and establishing vampire lore makes this the must-see beginner film for the next few movies on this list.
11. Only Lovers Left Alive (2013), R - the modern vampire romance to end all vampire romances. like the last one, this is a slower movie, but I thought it'd be fun to add here as a comparison (or perhaps even as a foil) to the last. also the vampires in this movie are sooo beautiful in an etheral way, it's unreal 😳.
12. Interview With the Vampire (1994), R - picture this: a coven of vampires impersonates themselves as a theatre troop. now, in front of a human audience, they put on a "play". vampires pretending to be humans pretending to be vampires (how avant garde!). now at the climax of this performance, they actually kill and eat a live mortal woman. the audience, believing this all to be acting, do nothing but watch as the woman on stage screams for help. all this and more can be yours for the low low price of watching this movie.
13. The Queen of the Damned (2002), R - did you enjoy that last movie? well here's the sequel! - but don't expect this one to have anywhere near the same contemplative tone. instead, this one sports a nu-metal soundtrack and an off-the-rails plot to match (side note: world famous rockstar lestat's "coming out" as a vampire speech, totally reads like a coming out speech a la brian slade's in velvet goldmine, lol). if you're the kind of person who still watches twilight out of middle school nostalgia, this movie's the one for you. except the characters in this movie aren't mormons - they're goth!
14. The Lost Boys (1987), R - you know that fantasy you always have about running away to the california coast, joining a gay commie vampire polycule, and then eating innocent people every night, riding on ur matching 80s vampire motorcycles all the while? well that's what this movie is! in this horror-comedy (which is way too campy to ever actually horrify), the main character's transformation into a half-vampire reads as a gay awakening/coming out story, and the costume design is more than outstanding. this is honestly the highlight of these vampire movies imo, and maybe the highlight of the 80s as well!
15. What We Do in the Shadows (2015), R- a great way to tie off these last few, and this last section as a whole: what we do in the shadows is a genre-referential mockumentory about vampires. both this movie, and the spin-off tv show it inspired, are a genuinely funny and genius take on the vampire myth. ntm the re-watchability in this one is off the charts!
Part Three: the real monsters all along
16. Saw (2004), R- this franchise may be infamous for being shallow torture porn, but the first movie has a genuine plot to it and isn't any more gory than your average horror movie. a mystery more than anything, saw is about two men trying to find their way out of a deadly puzzle, and maybe even learning a lesson along the way. (<- and/or learning that they're gay, if the popular tumblr fanon is to be believed hfgjdfh).
17. Parasite (2019), R - this thriller deserved every amount of praise it received when it was released. it discusses the horrors of capitalistic inequality (especially that in south korea) in such a brilliant way by setting up for one plot, and then completely turning it on its head halfway through. great plot twists and a thrilling climax, 10/10.
18. Carrie (1979), R - a coming-of-age supernatural horror movie with the most sympathetic main character in the world, carrie is just as much a tragedy as anything else. side note: if you've been following along with all of these movies, this film would be fun to compare and contrast with ginger snaps! (I expect a 2 page times new roman essay about it on my desk by monday thx).
19. Hellraiser* (1987), R - an extremely horny and gory 80s horror movie about a group of sadomasochistic entities torturing and killing people in a practical effects masterpiece. meanwhile, another character tries to bring himself back from the dead in a manner equally as horrifying. if you love good gore, this is the crown jewel. if you're squeamish about torture...... .. . ... sorry.
20. Tetsuo the Iron Man* (1989), unrated but I give it a solid R - a japanese cyberpunk body horror film about a man who undergoes a curse slowly transforming him from flesh into metal and machinery. the plot can be hard to follow at times, but the body horror is genuinely incredible (and nasty!) and the fight scenes towards the end get super fun.
21. Scream* (1996), R - a genre-referential slasher, though beginners to the genre will absolutely "get it" too (you'll notice this list itself is lacking in slasher movies oops). this movie can feel a bit full of itself at times (imo), but it pulls of horror-comedy in a way that's been rarely pulled off since.
22. Train to Busan (2016), unrated but I'd give it an R - a claustophobic action adventure zombie horror movie with incredible heart at its core! I can't remember if I cried at the end, but if I didn't then I came close. if nothing else on this entire list strikes you, just watch this movie, please.
23. Mysterious Skin* (2005), NC-17 - generally I don't recommend this movie to people due to its content, but I figured if pink flamingos can be on this list, so can this one. this coming of age drama may be a respite from all the horror films in this section, but it's still by far the most upsetting imo. mysterious skin follows the story of two teen boys living parallel (yet often intertwining) lives in a small town, one a sex worker, and the other a UFO conspiracy theorist. this movie is incredibly moving, disturbing, thought provoking - and also the kind of movie I watched once and will never watch again.
24. The Crow* (1994), R - remember when superhero movies were good? this is a superhero movie but good. a goth and undead rockstar goes on a killing spree getting revenge on those who killed him and his wife - all on devil's night. and when I saw goth, I do mean goth; the cure recorded a song for this soundtrack, and it's still my favorite thing they've ever done.
Part Four: halloween week!
25. Rob Zombie's Halloween* (2007), R - yeah yeah yeah I'm putting this one before the original, but in my defense I'm saving the original for the 31st slot (halloween night...). most of the remakes and sequels in this slasher franchise aren't necessarily worth checking out on their own - but this one is. a sympathetic and rob-zombie-core take on the plot of the first halloween, I'm still convinced michael myers did nothing wrong.
26. House of Wax (2005), R - this movie plays My Chemical Romance for the end credits. helena by my chemical romance plays at the end of this movie. hey did you know that -- yeah I'm still not over this fact. uhm. the movie itself is pretty cool too. idk it's a 2005 slasher movie with a hot antagonist, have fun!
27. House of 1,000 Corpses* (2002), R - if you hated rob zombie's halloween, you'll hate this one too. but it you loved rob zombie's halloween... well good news! literally all of his movies are the same! this is a rob-zombie-core slasher with fun character designs and truly despicable antagonists, plus dwight from the office is in this one! this movie's about as campy and fun as a slasher can get.
28. Eraserhead (1977), unrated but probably an R idk - movies of ALL time, I'm truly obsessed with this one. eraserhead is an experimental and surreal body horror film by david lynch and about fears of fatherhood (among other things). this movie follows its plot in such a way that it makes me feel like I'm watching it in a pretentious new york art gallery black box theatre or something, sitting in silence among my classmates who are also visiting on our field trip. top tier lynch film.
29. The Addam's Family (1991), PG-13 - believe it or not, I have surprising few opinions on this movie! look, it's the addam's family. I'm sure u at least know the vibes of this franchise, right? halloween comedy? well here, watch it and have fun between all those weird and fucked up movies I keep throwing at u.
30. Noroi: the Curse (2005), unrated but probably around an R- movies that scared me SO bad I couldn't sleep at all, this film is a japanese horror mystery that's been compared to the x-files but don't let that fool you. between disturbing body horror, legitimately startling ghost effects, and many unsettling found footage shaky cams, the x-files wishes it were even a tenth as horrifying as this documentary-style movie is.
31. Halloween (1978), R - my wife!!!! my wife is here!!!!!! (author's note: michael myers is my male wife, thank you). no, ofc this movie isn't "good" but it's a slasher and it's fun, and the first time I ever watched it was perhaps the most fun I've ever had on a halloween night in my life, so I Absolutely recommend this one if you love silly 70s horror and want to have a good time!
and that's it!!!! 31 movie recommendations from me to you! watch these all in the order I gave you, or pick and choose based on my reviews, it's up to you! either way, I hope this is fun and helpful to at least somebody, and feel free to reblog or save this post to your heart's delight <3

Spring Anime 2021: Embarrassment of Riches
So this current anime season absolutely stinks, which just makes the last one look even more impressive. Well, maybe not all of it...
Zombieland Saga Revenge
Tumblr media
First off, you don't need to tell me that the following is a severe outlier opinion. We good? Ok. ZLSR is, in a word, subpar. I liked S1 back in the day, but it was already in the process of getting lazy towards the end. S2 continues this trend and is basically just another idol show. And as someone who actually does watch other idol shows I have to say that it's not a particularly good one of those either. The zombie gimmick has mostly stopped mattering and we're just doing what every idol show does, only with the odd occasional sight gag. The alleged subversive qualities mostly amount to a flashback for Yuugiri, which is admittedly the best part of the show but feels like it barely has anything to do with anything. Apart from that, it's a bunch of generic idol plots, rehashed character beats, shoddy attempts at twists (while not connecting to any setups from S1), and the obligatory "idols give us hope" ending, which is terribly hackneyed and flat out bad. Tae gets further memed into the ground, because of course she does. And there's stuff that was simply never good to begin with, like Kotarou and his comedy schtick, which gets truly insufferable now that there's no qualities to distract from it. It really makes me think that S1 wasn't even all that good to begin with and seems like an attempt to turn this surprise success into an easy money longrunner with no edge and no ambitions. "The idol show for people who don't watch idol shows" indeed, but not the way you mean it. 4/10
Bakuten
Tumblr media
But not to dwell on the failures, with the second show we're already above the cut — barely. This one got my attention with its really impressive performance scenes early on and it totally sticks to that, which is even more impressive. But besides that? Well, this is by far the most predictable show in a season where I watched an unambitious Kiraralike and put ZLS on blast for having no ideas. The characters are a mixed bag, some are cool (Shida, Asawo), some are very annoying (Mashiro), but those are the supports. The main cast is extremely one-dimensional, which is fine until they try to heap a ton of pathos on their lead, which doesn't go well. But I guess execution matters, and Bakuten is slick enough to get by. Writing this down in stark daylight I feel like I overrated this show somewhat (I actually put it over the next one originally, which definitely doesn't hold up when thinking about it), but I was indeed mostly entertained. 6/10
Yakunara Mug Cup mo
Tumblr media
Yeah. Of course Mug Cup definitely doesn't invent or subvert anything either, but it's a pretty good Kiraralike that's always entertaining to watch. Explaining the qualities of such a nothing genre is as difficult as ever, but it mostly comes down to me liking the characters and it having nothing to annoy me. It's shorter than normal, which is a plus for slim shows like this. And yeah, you can make an excessive amount of dick jokes with the clay fondling. That helps too. Looks are just fine, pleasant but nothing out of the ordinary. Comfy low-effort anime. 6/10
Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song
Tumblr media
This one is decent, but sadly still a major letdown. Because the first few episodes of Vivy were excellent and kicked ass, but then it became increasingly clear that the writing can't cash the checks the ideas wrote while the action starts running into severely diminishing returns. Vivy just keeps slowly getting worse and worse as it goes on, not by a huge amount each episode but by the end there's a pretty sizeable gulf between potential and result. Going into detail would probably be a little much for this venue because there's a lot, but from the top level view the issue is that while Vivy has good fundamental ideas and steals at the right places, it just isn't a smart show — it's schlock, and by the end, poorly thought out schlock that tries to smooth out every problem with liberal application of the big feels hammer and le epic twist at that. Yeah, couldn't tell that the Re:Zero dude was aboard here, for sure. That said, it still works pretty well as entertaining schlock that is not to be taken too seriously, and the characters are generally just very fun to watch even when they're doing stupid things. Still, I can't in good conscience rate this higher than Beatless, a show that looks like butt but properly executes on its ideas. 6/10
Super Cub
Tumblr media
So this is 100% a Honda commercial, and I got really mad a Yuru Camp last season for being a blatant shill. Yet I'm feeling this, what gives? I think the main difference is that Super Cub is specifically a commercial for one product (and a very iconic product at that), while Yuru Camp is so all over the place that it ends up mostly a commercial for consumerism in general. And when Super Cub goes too hard on the product (which it does), it's at least pretty entertaining. That's something about Super Cub in general: It goes hard. Your regular Kiraralike this is not, because it's uncommonly slow, focused and moody - yes, it almost measures up to Yuru Camp at its best and demolishes it at its worst. Also, it's just extremely amusing to see sadblob Koguma grow a huge grizzly biker beard and become a badass outlaw dad to her goofy wife and cute daughter, all thanks to the power of afforable personal transportation. Needless to say, that can get unintentionally silly, but Super Cub has so much charm that it doesn't matter — it's great when it's good and still funny when it's not. 7/10
Shadows House
Tumblr media
Shadows House turned up with a lot of potential, and I have to say it at least delivered on most of it. It has some problems; notably I'm not a fan of how the entire middle turned out to be a tournament arc of sorts that seems curiously inspired by Resident Evil memes, crest-shaped intentations and boulder punching included. I also think that this is a show that would be perfectly fine without explaining much, but I guess it is a shounen manga after all so we got dumped on eventually anyway. At least that came late - close relative Promised Neverland didn't show that much restraint. Shadows House is generally well written though, with great characters, interesting interactions and a great hook. But what really makes it memorable is that it's exceptionally good at the cute/creepy contrast, something that is often tried but rarely works as well as here, with great character designs and very appropriate production. I hope this gets a sequel, because it seems like it's just getting started. 7/10
SSSS.Dynazenon
Tumblr media
Coming in with a fondness for Gridman, Dynazenon didn't have to do much to convince me. The surprise though is that it's not a rehash even if it's basically the same show, a character drama where occasionally huge and goofy fights break out. Dynazenon is Gridman done better, and the interesting part is how it accomplishes this - mainly by being far more conventional. I do appreciate that Gridman went for something weird and almost experimental, but that only really paid off towards the end while most of the show was a distraction/holding pattern. It just didn't feel like there was enough material for a full series there, more like a movie maybe, if even that. Dynazenon fixes this by just being a TV show, with an actual cast of characters that each have their own arc. And by spreading the material this way, Dynazenon ends up having a lot more nuance than its intensely focused predecessor, while having the same themes and not actually being any deeper. In a way, Gridman ends up looking like the spinoff in retrospect, while Dynazenon is the full package. 8/10
Thunderbolt Fantasy S3
Tumblr media
So how good was this season? So good that Thunderbolt Fantasy doesn't end up at the top, that's how. And all the elements that made Tbolt such a sure thing are still there, big hammy puppets doing stunts and scheming never gets old. However, I do have to note that at this point, the writing appears to have gotten too comfortable. I don't expect it to ever top the amazing S1 ending, but at this point it's like Tbolt has stopped trying to deliver on endings at all and seems in the process of retooling itself into a longrunner instead. Barely anything gets resolved in S3 (the climax is that the climax of S2 is resolved again, for good this time... maybe), and everything else is just setting up plotpoints for the next season. Tbolt is truly lucky that it doesn't actually need to resolve anything to be a great time, but at this point I have to say that I'd appreciate it if they wrapped it up with S4. 8/10
Nomad: Megalobox 2
Tumblr media
Speaking of sequels to shows I liked, Nomad doesn't so much improve upon its predecessor but steamrolls right over it. This is a tall order, since Megalobox was surprisingly good for a sports shounen and had a real nice, heartwarming ending that Nomad instantly negates for purposes of drama and everyone being extremely miserable. That sounds like a pretty terrible idea - and it would be, if Nomad wasn't as excellent as it is. To call it not the same show would be an understatement, because it's a true sequel, not just the same characters doing their thing some more, or new characters doing the same thing as the old ones did. Indeed my biggest problem with Megalobox was that it still closely adhered to its genre template and was very predictable; Nomad fixes this issue thoroughly. Nomad is about questioning what being a hotblooded shounen protagonist eventually leads you to, and how to fix everything you screwed up by being one. You could call it a deconstruction, but that term has been so abused for cynical, edgy "thing you like actually sucks" takes that I feel like it doesn't really fit here. Nomad isn't cynical at all, it's just a character drama about some boxers past their prime, and it being a sequel to a show that is indeed rather formulaic just enhances the experience. My biggest issue with it was that I really like what they did with Joe in this story, so the big focus on Mac's backstory felt like a distraction for a long time. But in the end that turned out to be absolutely necessary to make the ending work. The ending's just great, by the way, and I shall say not more about it. 9/10
Odd Taxi
Tumblr media
Yeah boy, here's the show that has apparently become somewhat of a "greatest show you didn't watch" meme, which I can feel smug about because I don't need YouTubers to tell me what's good and followed this from day one. Anyway, Odd Taxi is indeed great, the greatest show in a few years even. What starts out as seemingly a relaxed hangout show in the vein of Midnight Diners quickly turns into a psychological murder mystery while never losing its quirky humor. The character writing is outstanding, with even small bit players being on a level that the average anime wishes it could have for leads. And the rollout of the mystery is exemplary, with answers given and new questions raised every episode with a satisfying and logical payoff in the end. This is also the rare anime that has rock solid production from the first to the last second; it's never really flashy but excellently done and highly consistent nonetheless. And the music just owns. I have a few complaints, mainly that there's a few logical weaknesses in the story (which wouldn't even register in a lesser show, but sticks out here since the rest is so immaculately constructed) and that the ending overextends on the emotions when the rest of the show is so reserved and dry in comparison. But those are only the reasons why I didn't give it perfect marks, and I almost did that anyway. 9/10

REWATCH: s1 recap/ranking
quick intermission before hopping into s2! just going to talk about the overall impression of this season and my personal episode ranking, since there's not really a better place to do it.
season one is short but memorable. some of the episodes are on the weaker side since it was still early in the run and, as with most shows, it got better before declining again. s1 does have a number of greats though and was fundamental in cementing the show's impact and influence on audiences and the animation industry as a whole
i think s1 did a really good job of establishing these characters and that it led to s2 being able to build on them in interesting ways. while i haven't watched all the way through in a while, i remember s2 having a lot of the best character moments (i guess we'll see.) "stimpy's invention" is kind of a great gateway into that, while the episodes preceding it do well to lead up to that episode's character payoff. i'm not going to talk too much about individual episodes here but it's worth reiterating i think.
as for the ranking:
UNRANKED: "big house blues"
i don't think this episode can really be compared to the others due to its nature as a pilot. if i did have to choose a place for it, it would probably be at the bottom, but that's only because of how rough it is. i really enjoy the art style and i do think it gives due focus to the dynamic between the main duo.
11. "black hole"
i actually think this episode has gone down in my personal listing since i last watched through the show. i don't hate it by any means, but it does feel repetitive and i was a bit bored watching it this time around. i think it really would have benefitted from greater variety in its environments, but i do love the alternate universe in concept and even in some areas of its execution.
10. "fire dogs"
Tumblr media
this suffers from the same issue as the previous ep in that this episode can be pretty slow/dull. there are jokes that make me laugh, but i also think it's one that's aged more poorly than some others. ren & stimpy is often said to be a product of its time and while there is some truth to that, i think it's often more timeless than people give it credit for. there are many episodes that haven't aged well though.
9. "nurse stimpy"
Tumblr media
mediocre execution on this one, but i wouldn't consider anything about it to really be bad. i think it has a couple of the best jokes from the season as well.
8. "robin hoek"
Tumblr media
another episode that tends toward the mediocre, but i like the premise and there are some good jokes in this one as well. not much more to say about it tbh.
7. "the boy who cried rat!"
Tumblr media
this is a good episode up until the chewing scene. the pacing grinds to a halt and while i appreciate the cartoony tom and jerry-esque slapstick juxtaposed with the signature grotesquery of this show in concept, the execution just isn't very good. i like everything else about it though.
6. "the littlest giant"
Tumblr media
the pacing in this episode is a little slow but i like the humor enough that it makes up for it. i also like the premise for this one.
5. "untamed world"
Tumblr media
this episode is a pretty straightforward nature doc parody so there isn't a whole lot for me to say about it, but it gets a higher spot because i like the "animals" and it's always nice to see r&s themselves in a chiller mood, since we don't get that too often. that characterization wouldn't work if it happened too much, but it gives a nice breather here, and they still feel in-character.
4. "marooned"
Tumblr media
big fan of the psychedelic environments in this one. i find them very visually distinct and well-made. the episode is a little lacking in terms of plot, but i like the alien planet so much that it earns a high spot on my list anyways. i'm just a sucker for that kind of thing
3. "stimpy's big day/the big shot!"
Tumblr media
very wonky animation in this one, but it earns a high spot because of what a strong beginning to the series and introduction to the characters it provides. it's one of the most memorable episodes for me because of the storyline and characterization, even if the visuals are lacking.
2. "space madness"
Tumblr media
REALLY good episode. very solid in terms of structure and some of the best animation the season has to offer. the gradual build with ren's space madness and the ending with the history eraser button are iconic for good reason. also a very funny episode, lots of great expressions!
1. "stimpy's invention"
Tumblr media
second-best episode of the show imo, only beat out by an episode i will be covering ~next season~ (it's "stimpy's fan club" lmfao i'm pretty sure most of you guys already know by now.) so it goes without saying it's my favorite of s1. this episode has many of the best visuals in the series and arguably the best tonal choices and balances. it's peak dark comedy and has excellent characterization on top of that. well-remembered as one of the best for very good reason.

To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts - Review!
First review here we go!!
Tumblr media
So, after being completely and utterly obsessed with Jujutsu Kaisen and AOT season 4, I decided to check out MAPPA studios and watch a bunch of stuff from their roster. My so-called "MAPPA binge" included this strange and unknown piece: Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e, or in English, To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts. An adaption of a manga originally released in Bessatsu Shounen (you might recognize this as the magazine that released Attack on Titan!), it looked pretty promising. I do have to admit that I didn't read a page of this anime's manga, though the art style on it looks gorgeous!!
The concept behind the show: A war has torn two halves of a nation apart, split into the North and the South. The Northerners, who were previously greatly outnumbered in battle, created a half-human, half-beast species known as "Incarnates" because of their God-like abilities. But the Incarnates begin having some issues when their beast forms take over their bodies, turning them into monsters. When the war ends, our protagonist, Hugh Hank, an Incarnate and previous captain of the Incarnate squad, swears to kill all of his mutating Incarnate buddies before they can destroy the world.
This review will not contain spoilers until the labeled "Spoiler" section at the bottom.
Tumblr media
In general, what do I think?: 4/10, this show kinda sucked. Ouch! I hate being that blunt! Especially on my first review here! But To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts (let's call it TTASB from here on out!) had glaring flaws that, while it did hold up as a show, made it uninteresting and hard to love. Not only were the characters mediocre and boring, but the show seemed to contradict itself and its own opinion of the Incarnates all the time! Are they bloodthirsty monsters that need to be killed? Are they misunderstood humans who should be given peace? I don't know! Our main characters don't seem to either! Other than the "war bad" motif that gets shoved down your throat from episode one, the show felt stagnant in what it was trying to make the audience feel.
I hate being so cynical about it, though, because it does still earn those 4 points! Even though a lot of it falls flat, as a whole, it's still an ok show! Hank and Schaal have good concepts and their dilemmas are interesting in certain parts when the writers manage to nail pits and pieces of their development! The fight scenes were cool and I think that the concept for the world was neat! And the show does have a pretty cool title. Let's be honest, To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts sounds super metal.
Tumblr media
So what about those characters?: 5/10! Hugh Hank and Schaal are our two main protags for the show, and they both have pretty interesting concepts! Hank is an Incarnate, he used to be the leader of the other Incarnates, and he made a vow with them that when they lost their minds, he would kill them himself. Schaal is the daughter of one of these Incarnates that fought under Hank. Interesting, right?! How could these two opposing characters get along with one another?
TTASB tries to give the two of them a sort of grumpy-old-mentor-teaches-a-cheery-youngster relationship (which, admittedly, is one of my favorite tropes) and manages to forget everything good about having this kind of relationship. To start, it feels like Schaal has next to no reason to be tolerating Hank, and vice versa. She follows him around because *insert some excuse about understanding the Incarnates?* and Hank lets her because *insert I really don't know*. It really feels like Schaal doesn't need to be there, and she's just a plot device to move along Hank's character development.
Then, the two of them never really interact in ways that really moved me. It never felt like they made a deeper connection that meant something to the plot. They interacted, sure. They spoke about their issues, yeah. But it never felt like Hank needed Schaal, or that Schaal was emotionally tied to Hank, until the show spoonfed it to you that they were.
In the end, neither of their developments felt compelling or interesting. There were a few scenes that maybe, if you squinted, hinted towards them growing as people, but for a 12 episode anime, it was very menial. It also felt like said scenes were fairly forced, with their development not really leading them to the point that they ended up at. Again, TTASB has a bit of an issue with contradicting itself.
The villain was so meh. He has a motive, yeah. It's pretty lame. He's not compelling at all. Nothing about him is interesting or kept me hooked on him. The show probably could've existed without him, to be entirely honest. I don't really have much else to say about him! I just did not really care about him at all.
The best characters in the show are hands-down the supporting cast of Incarnates. Each one has fairly interesting motivations, and even though they're only given an episode or so to tell their stories, they feel the most genuine. My biggest qualm with them is that the show doesn't build their connection to Hugh Hank at all, so when he gets emotional over them, you're kind of like "uhhh u know this guy??". More about this down in our spoilers section, as I'll go over a scene where this is prominent.
Tumblr media
So characters were meh, but what about the story itself?: 4/10, just as meh. Again, very interesting! Lots of potential! But it fell flat where it mattered. To be clear, just before we dig deeper: the 12 episodes of TTASB isn't the entire story. It's clearly intended to be continued, though, as of writing this, I haven't been able to dig up any news about a potential season 2.
I don't really mind if animes aren't completely original, as long as they're fun, but TTASB didn't really do that. A lot of the episodes felt boring and reused like it was a watered-down copy-paste of other material. Some episodes were repetitive and seemed to be trying to hammer in the same themes, only to be later contradicted by other episodes. TTASB will spend a few episodes showing you how misunderstood and sweet the Incarnates are and then have an episode where an Incarnate murders a bunch of people. I would love it if it was, in any way, shape, or form, sarcastic, but it is not. TTASB just thinks it can get away with the blatant disregarding of its own morals. It only ends up feeling disconnecting and frustrating.
It follows an almost monster-of-the-week style format for introducing the Incarnates, which does them a bit of a disservice, in my opinion. I really would have liked it if there was a bit more overlap between the Incarnates and their stories! We know that they're all very close (or, at least, the show tells us that they are without really showing us) so seeing them interact with one another outside of their respective episode would've been fun!
The story tries to be darker and grimier than it actually is. I didn't end up caring much for the nation itself and much of the politics that the show tried to utilize felt boring and, again, watered-down. It felt like the show wanted to make it a political drama about war and human rights and only ended up shying away from what makes those genres impactful. Again, this isn't to say that TTASB's story is bad, it's just not as good as it could've been.
Tumblr media
But it's MAPPA, so the art has to be good, right?: Yeah! Art was cool! Nothing golden, like MAPPA's newer stuff, but a solid 7/10! The fight scenes were nice, and even though a lot of them felt redundant to watch, they were still smooth! I have some qualms about a few of the Incarnates' beast forms (especially Hank's) looking like they belong back in 2001, but they still looked cool nonetheless.
I don't really have much to say on this front! Nothing really blew me away, but I never looked at the screen and winced away.
Ok and finally, pacing!: 4/10. 12 episode animes always have tricky pacing to them. I like to think about the show being pretty much only 5 hours long, which isn't that much time to cram in as much story and plot as they might want to. Overall, TTASB actually had pretty decent pacing, with a long enough build-up that led to a final showdown. If you ask me, I do think there was a pacing problem in the second half, as it felt far too stretched out, but that could've just been my perception of it.
My biggest issue with pacing loops back to the characters again. They're never really given time to explore or build up relationships. Especially not Hank and his prior team of Incarnates. I think that there should've been more screen time dedicated to their time in the army, to better explain the emotional distress that he's going through as he's forced to hunt them down. Instead, TTASB relies on a throwaway line or scene to deliver this emotional blow, and it nearly always falls flat.
Music!!!!: 6/10, The soundtrack in this anime really wasn't memorable and I don't remember much from it. Whoops!
I did like the opening a bit! It was done by Mafumafu, who I think has done a Pokemon intro song? Either way, it was energetic and fit the theme of the show well! The ending is also a bop, now that I'm thinking about it! It manages to be nostalgic and sad without being too slow! So good music on both fronts!!
Tumblr media
OK, now we're in spoiler territory! Be warned!
I don't have too much to say regarding spoilers. Nothing in the show really feels important enough that I have to mention it under a spoiler tag. A few small notes, I suppose.
The show treats Hank like the more important character but then throws him away in his "death" to focus on Schaal, which was a very frustrating episode. Schaal felt so bland and useless in it, even when she faced her father again. Bringing him back to life felt like a sad excuse to force her into character development. I did like it when she found the courage to shoot him, but I also thought that it wasn't really as emotional as the show wanted it to be.
Hank's connection with Schaal, particularly in the second half, feels completely unnatural and forced. When she gets kidnapped, he has some sort of mental breakdown over her and it, if anything, felt creepy. It was undeserved and was forced down your throat rather than built.
Beatrice was the best character in the show and I think that if they stuck to ideas like hers (misunderstood creatures who just want to go back to their old lives), the story would have been much better. Instead, you switch to characters like the Gargoyle Incarnate, who just goes on a murder spree, and it ruins a lot of the development that Beatrice brought to the table.
Tumblr media
& our deep deep look at one part: Forgive me if I get this screwed up a bit, it's been a weekish since I finished the show and my brain dumped out all details of it already.
Hugh Hank goes to the mountains and fights the Garmr Incarnate, Rex (Roy? I'm a bit confused on his name), in an epic show-down. Obviously, at the end of it, Hank wins, killing Rex. Now, if you're like me, you sat there for most of the fight going "who tf is Rex and why is this battle important?" and only at the very END, when he's dying, do you see a clip that you might remember from the very beginning of the anime, with Rex talking about Schaal. You go "oohhh I know who he is!" but you wished that you remembered this ten minutes ago when the fight started because it would've been so much more impactful. The show didn't remind you of this scene. It didn't tell you that Rex was this same person that you already met. It expected you to remember, and I didn't. This scene sums up a lot of the character problems with the show, where even if something does have emotional weight, the show doesn't act on it.
Tumblr media
Now we're done!: Sorry if this was harsh, but that's my full review on To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts! I'd love to hear if you agree with me or think that I'm totally wrong! If you've read the manga, tell me if it's better or worth a read! And thanks for reading!
(The crossed-out "Hugh"s are all of the times that I got Hank's name wrong! I'm not super great with character names, but I always take it as a bad sign when I screw up the name. )

Without warning, Robotnik draped himself across Zinnia's desk and studied his nails while he spoke. "Dr Frost! You like other people, right? At the very least, you're good at acting as if you're interested in their mundane lives and their idiotic, self-induced personal issues! Why don't you write the Yearly Holiday Memo in my place? I could use a little me-time after this hellish year I've had." He glanced up at her and grinned. "Thanks in advance!"
Zinnia looked a bit amused at the way Dr. Robotnik settled on her desk like a giant cat and “requested” that she write the memo in his place. She had half a mind to say no but she couldn’t just refuse to do something work-related that her boss tells her to do. Besides, it’s actually an excellent opportunity to plan a nice holiday event! So, she after finishing up her work, she wrote a nice memorandum and emailed it to all the employees, with a carbon copy emailed to Robotnik, of course.
>-<->-<->-<->-<
TO: All Employees CC: Dr. Ivo Robotnik FROM: Dr. Zinnia Frost, Dr. Ivo Robotnik’s assistant DATE: 25/11/2020 SUBJECT: Annual Christmas Holiday Memorandum
Dear employees,
I, on behalf of Dr. Robotnik, would like to extend my warm wishes to you and your family for Christmas and would also like to thank you for all your hard work and sheer dedication and hope that this will continue for years to come by.
To celebrate this joyous festival, I invite you all to relax and unite together with a light and happy heart at the Christmas barbeque that will take place on December 12th, starting at 3:00 PM at the main Compound garden. There will be plenty of drinks and a Christmas tree will be lit at 4:00 PM. We’ll have a small band playing traditional carols as well so feel free to sing along! And don’t be scared if our CEO shows up dressed as the Grinch! I will handle him uwu.
Additionally, please be informed that this event is for employees only. I sincerely apologise for that but due to security reasons, you are not allowed to bring along anyone who is not an employee. But the upside is that this event is free of cost, of course. I hope you all attend and enjoy it to the fullest.
Those of you who would like to attend, please register here by 5th December, 2:00 PM so that we can cater enough food for everyone!
Tumblr media
On another note, I know you all want to make sure the holidays are enjoyed and appreciated by your whole family, but planning an itinerary is easier said than done. After all, balancing busy schedules and interests of the entire family is no easy task. So, to help you out, I will suggest some fun holiday activities you and your family can try:
1. Attend a Tree Lighting Ceremony
Many cities or landmarks will have a ceremony honouring the lighting of their tree. It’s a night where crowds of people attend the festival, dressed in their warmest attire and gather around the tree waiting for it to spring to life. This will really get you in the Christmas spirit!
2. Connect with an Old Friend
The holiday season is the perfect time reconnect up with an old friend that you haven’t met in a while. So, reach out to and set up a time to get together. Who knows, they may end up becoming one of your best friends!
3. Try New Recipes
Whether it’s baked goodies or soothing drinks, you and your family will enjoy making some delicious treats. These are some of my favourites:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Be mindful of any food allergies you may have, though!
4. Try Out a Winter Sport
Ice skating, sledding and skiing are great sports to enjoy during the winter, and an even better way to get your kids up and outdoors during their holiday break. During the Christmas season, outdoor ice skating rinks start popping up. There are even indoor skating rinks! So, bundle up, put on a pair of blades and glide around the rink!
5. Do a Random acts of Kindness, Donate, Volunteer
Christmas is all about giving, even if what you give are just small, random acts of kindness. They are some of the most fulfilling and sweetest things you could ever do. Donate toys to children. Try your local homeless shelter or children’s hospital. Trust me, giving a gift to a child in need and seeing them light up with joy is one of the most rewarding things you could do. You can also donate food and warm clothes to the unfortunate people who need them to help them get through the frigid winter season. Gather some from friends, family and bring them to the local homeless shelter. Volunteering is also a very easy way to help and spread some joy. Of course, volunteering is a great thing to do at any time of the year, but during the holidays there are even more opportunities. Pick a cause close to your heart and spend the day giving. Find opportunities near you on the Volunteer Match or the United Way website.
6. Start a New Family Tradition
When in doubt of what to do during the holidays, Christmas is the perfect time to start a new tradition that will live on in years to come. It can be anything like a special dish you cook every holiday season, volunteering at the local shelter, Christmas carolling or wrapping your kids in gift paper and rolling them under the tree for fun. The possibilities are limitless! You’re sure to find something you’ll look forward to every year.
7. Make a Homemade Gift
There is always something special about giving and receiving a homemade gift. Everyone loves to receive them from their loved ones as a lot of time and effort is put into creating them, making them all the more special. It could be a glass frame with pressed wildflowers or a snow globe—the possibilities are endless!
8. Have a Christmas Craft Party
Get the Holiday fun started by hosting a Christmas craft party. Set up crafts, invite your child’s friends, and have a few seasonal snacks to carry them through the party. Here are many crafting ideas that you could enjoy making on that day. Whichever crafts you choose, having a day like this will be fun and memorable.
9. Watch a Holiday Movie Favourite
Slip into your comfiest pjs, make some popcorn and have a holiday movie marathon with your loved ones. Some of my favourites are:
Mickey's Christmas Carol
Disney's A Christmas Carol
Klaus
Home Alone
The Nightmare Before Christmas
10. Kiss Someone Under the Mistletoe
Who says there’s no time for romance? Set up mistletoe in your home and lead your beloved partner under it to have the splendid excuse of kissing them.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, remember to look after yourself and your mental health. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed or stressed time to time hence I encourage anyone experiencing mental health issues to seek support. Remember, it is okay to ask for help, even for the small things so they don’t become big things. If you’re unsure about how to go on about this, or would even just like a friendly chat, feel free to contact me directly by email and I will do my best to assist you.
I once again would like to express my gratitude towards you all and wish you and your family a Merry Christmas!

I Just Don't Want to Die Anymore
Living forever isn’t for everyone.
@bombshellsandbluebells edited this for me and basically she’s a queen among men. The very concept of this is spoilery for Season 6 so BE WARNED
Title from Richard Siken because of course it is
“You are not going to die,” Emori says slowly. “And I am.”
John nods once. Slow. Slower than her words. He doesn’t say anything. He runs his tongue over his lips, nervous, and looks up at her. She’s standing at the workbench in the shop Raven co-opted as theirs. He’s sit-leaning on a stack of wood, right leg bouncing nervously, hands clenched into fists.
She wants to stand here, over him, and memorize the way the sun filters through his eyelashes. How his eyes glow blue in the light, clearer than the cleanest water. How red his cheeks are from the summer sun.
He has eternity now to learn how to get a tan, she thinks, and her body involuntarily trembles with a repressed laugh.
“Something funny?” John asks, voice strung tight like a tripwire. Nothing is funny about this, she thinks, and yet she’s laughing, shoulders shaking at the absurdity of it all.
She ducks her head, hair falling around her face, and studies her hands braced on the dirty table while she checks her emotions.
“I’m going to die before you,” she says. Another laugh, this one understandable. “I always thought-”
“‘If you die, I’ve been dead for weeks’?” John asks, smirking. “Yeah. Raven never forgets to remind me.”
Silence again. They look at each other. Her heart aches for him, suddenly. He doesn’t know the pain he’s asking for. To lose someone to a sudden death is one thing, but to old age and the passage of time?
There was an old man she knew when she was a child. He lived at the edge of the woods, near where the grass and trees gave way to sand and sky. He didn’t care about her hand, didn’t mind the irreverent way she spoke and the clumsiness of her left-handed sword hold. He told her stories and gave Otan enough dried meat to last them for days. He never told them his name and never asked for theirs. It was safer that way, he said.
He never liked Baylis, either. He thought Otan’s blind trust of him was going to get them both hurt - that a mercenary attitude only ended in danger. He told her once, “Men only know how to be unkind when choosing between survival and goodness. Survive, but not at the cost of your soul.”
He died in his sleep a few days after that. Emori felt a keen loss then. It felt unfair in an unreasonable way. Death by nature’s timing is more reliable than other means, after all. But she still felt abandoned, an unwilling participant in life’s circle.
“You’ll watch yourself lose me,” she whispers, voice shaking. Empathy is still a shock to her system even after years of learning from Bellamy’s example. “I’ll get old a-and die. You won’t-”
“I’m sorry,” he says. “I’m… a coward, I guess.”
She looks up, sharp. “What?”
“I don’t want to die,” he says quickly. “The things I saw when I- Emori. I can’t-”
“John.” She can’t argue with what he saw, mostly because she doesn’t know and doesn’t enjoy fighting losing battles, but also because she thinks she understands. Walking into a strange and violent fate is dangerous, no matter how much you know ahead of time. “It’s okay.”
She reaches for him. The years stretch out between their hands, long and unyielding. She wonders if he’ll ever age, if his mind will change and wither over the centuries of body after body, life after life.
She supposes, if nothing else, it will be a relief to never have to see him in any other skin other than this.
He takes her hand and pulls her close, burying his face in her neck. “I love you,” he whispers. “I do. I swear I do.”
But I love myself more hangs unspoken between them. She knows. She doesn’t care. Or maybe she does. Maybe that’s the pain radiating inside her with all these other knotted-up feelings that ache somewhere near her solar plexus.
“Survive,” she tells him, a feeble way to pass on a generational lesson she forgot until it was too late. “Survive, but not at the cost of your soul.”
He laughs sardonically against her skin. “I think my soul is already all paid out.”
She draws back and rests her left hand over his heart. “I hope time is good to you.”
“We have time now.” He takes her hand, presses a kiss to its palm. “I have a whole lifetime with you.”
And hundreds where you won’t even remember me, she thinks. But, as Raven bustles in with an armful of tech and an earful of complaints and as John reaches over to whack her on the arm for some insult she paid him earlier, she keeps her silence.

Seedless Grape Plant Astounding Ideas
That is why wine made from grapes hasn't waned. If you are going to plant grapes, ten is a very satisfying hobby.Another major concern for any home grape grower in your vineyard. Most table grape growing factors like selecting right kind of grape juice comes from.
This will also allow free air flow, the right soil for cultivating the grapes. If there is a memorable and fun experience. Build a trellis system is important as this cultivar is suitable for grape vine needs oxygen. As you know, sunlight is a great hobby and great for healthy vine varieties.Get pruned: I am sure that they know whether your making wine or table grapes, slipskin, and wine.
