Bad news friends, I have accidentally reset my Ipad and have learned that the last time I backed it up was 2021. All my files from the past 2 years are gone.
A couple of my sketches related to Sonder are lost, also including a lot of dialogue notes and plot development. I'm feeling worse about the art cause I had some really neat things I eventually wanted to tidy up and post.
However, life goes on - I'm going to quickly jot down everything I can remember writing and just build off of that. Just got to push on as my brother has told me.

i feel like leaving a scathing review when your professor teaching evaluations are open almost makes up for the severe turmoil you suffer the duration of their course

one of the things about having an unstable parent is that it can so easily ruin your future. you want to get out, but getting out takes having agency. it takes the resume and the grades and the stellar community service history.
but you have to choose your battles. you know if you sign up for an after-school activity, it'll be okay for a while, so long as the activity is parent-approved and god-fearing. over time, like all things, it will become an argument (i can't keep carting your ass to these things) or a weapon (talk to me like that again, see if you get to go to practice). sometimes, if you love the thing, it's worth it. but you also know better than to love something: that's how they get you. if you ever actually want something, it will always be the center of their attention. they will never stop threatening you with it. telling you of course i'm a good parent, i came to all of those stupid events.
you learn to balance yourself perfectly. you can either have a social life or you can have hobbies. both of these things will be under constant scrutiny. you spend too much time with her, you should be at home with family is equally paired with you're acting like this because you're addicted to what's on that goddamn screen. you cannot ever actually win, so everything falls within a barter system that you calculate before entering: do you want to learn how to drive? if so, you'll need to give up asking for a new laptop, even though yours died. maybe you can work on a computer at the library. of course, that would mean you'd be allowed to go to the library, which would mean something else has to bleed. nothing ever actually comes free.
and that bitter, horrible irony: you could be literally following their orders and it still isn't pretty. they tell you to get a job; they hate that your job keeps you late and gives you access to actual money. they tell you to do better in school; they say no child of mine needs a tutor. they want you to stop being so morose, don't you know there are people who are really suffering - but they revile the idea you might actually need therapy.
you didn't survive that fall the way other people would. you've seen other people scramble and get their way out, however they could. maybe you were made too-soft: the answer didn't come to you easily. it wasn't quick. it was brutal and nasty. some people even asked you why didn't you just work hard and escape during school? and you felt your head spinning. why didn't you? (they control your financial aid. they control your loan status. they love having that kind of thing). maybe in another life you got diagnosed sooner and got the meds you needed to actually focus and got attention from the right teachers who helped you clear hurdles to get up out of here - but for now? here?
the effort of trying. the effort of not-dying. that kind of effort was absolutely agonizing.

Ok so. Miles Edgeworth is trans. Gregory was definitely a trans affirming father so when Miles told him he was like “sure son. What name do you want to go by?”
And so all Manfred von Karma knew was that Gregory Edgeworth had a son. When he gains custody of Miles, he just. Does not realize that the kid he’s now in charge of is a trans boy. (Maybe Miles already had a name change. Idk. Somehow legal name wise, von Karma just. Does Not realize.)
So Miles grows up being raised as a boy and von Karma just. Doesn’t realize. Until puberty begins.
And he notices something, that Miles isn’t experiencing puberty the way he would have expected and he’s like hmmm. I am not sure what is happening.
And then like preteen Miles, incredibly nervous, comes to him and he’s like, “excuse me, Mr. von Karma, sir, but would I be able to start puberty blockers please?”
And von Karma’s just like “WHAT!”
He’s so caught off guard and so used to thinking of Miles as “Gregory Edgeworth’s pathetic son” that he just… kinda lets Miles medically transition bc he’s so caught off guard by the realization.
And for his entire life, Miles is like. Unable to wrap his head around von Karma being surprisingly trans accepting???

Whenever someone apologizes to me because their kid is talking my ear off I'm just like . . . man, there's no need for that. First off, I was once that chatty kid. Although I am extremely introverted I have never been shy, so I've always been able to talk to everyone about anything. As a 6yo I absolutely would've been talking someone's ear off about Sonic. At 8, it would have been Pokémon.
But even if I had been shy, I still get it. I mean, they're a child. They have something that makes them excited, or they're curious about something. So, they talk about it. There's nothing wrong with that! They're not hurting anyone. I don't mind if your kid wants to show me their iPad games while we wait on our cars at the mechanic. I don't mind if your kid wants to ask me a bunch of questions about my dog because we're neighbors and both happened to be in our yards at the same time. They're kids. They're still learning about the world. And there will be plenty of people to be annoyed by or mean to them about their interests; I don't want to be one of those people.
Kids are curious, and kids are chatty, and there's no need to apologize for that. They're not hurting anyone, they're just kids. Just let them be kids.
