Sonic actually got upset with anyone in the comics who referred to him as either Ogilvie or Mautrice, this included his own Comic dad so even if it was canon then it wouldn't mean anything.

(If it was canon then it would just be like how Tails is really named Miles, it never comes up so it legit wouldn't matter (I do want at least one person in canon to call Tails Miles, I want to know how he canonically reacts to it))

the name olgilvie was never actually used in the comics though? his middle name being maurice is mentioned a couple times but his first name from before he started going by sonic was always left unknown. the idea of his first name being olgilvie just comes from ken penders saying that he wanted to make that sonics name. but this was never actually brought up in the comics, it wasnt mentioned by any of the characters and it wasnt on any of sonics character profiles either. other writers for the comic have even said that sonics name ISNT olgilvie. so acting like its canon is just. idk. are we really gonna accept everything ken penders says he would have done with sonic as canon regardless of if its actually mentioned in the comics or not? because thats a terrible idea

also regarding tails's full name: he hates the name miles in aosth. but he doesnt seem to have a problem with it in other continuities, i can think of a couple times hes used it himself or other characters have called him that and he wasnt upset by it or anything

Ok I did the whole Barbenheimer thing and let me tell you, Barbie wasn't revolutionary or anything, but it did come up ahead. It did what it was supposed to do and, since I managed my expectations before going in, did it in a fun silly way that still left a bunch of possible deeper readings, even if they were sadly left unexplored (and were maybe unintended). Oppenheimer on the other hand left me very angry and disappointed, even if I went there knowing it was an usamerican warfilm so I wasn't expecting much.

I think Barbie and Oppenheimer were equally superficial and obvious with their intended messages presentations, themes and characters, and equally inconsistent with their story threads. But Barbie was about Barbies, was intentionally silly, and had more going for it than the story itself... and Oppenheimer was about one of the real life creators of the atonic bomb, about the ones responsible for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, and about the subsequent cold war and the mess it left us today in regards to the existence and threat of atomic and H bombs.

I think I can safely say one had the responsibility to be a bit more nuanced and careful than the other, and that just did not happen. And no, i do not think there was any actual anti USA sentiment in Oppenheimer, as someone who lives in a Developing Country (TM)and is used to seeing usamerican propaganda all the time there was barely even a scratch of criticism buried in there; our knowledge of history and our own modern sensibilities and morality did all the heavy lifting in that front without the movie having to risk saying anything. Oh did he feel bad while the bombs were being dropped? Did they villanize a guy who went after him for uhh being better than him at public speaking? Did they say he was against the H bomb and was a pacifist now, actually (without showing it much but who cares, tell not show right)? He was still the hero. Not one Japanese person was shown. Not one civilian protest, not one appearance of the communists they were talking so much about after the scenes in the past, doing anything but talking the whole time. He still ended up with a "I love my country" tirade, there was still a haha nod to fucking Kennedy being the one to be on our hero's side. They still showed more scenes of women naked, drunk, cheating on their husbands and being negligent towards their kids than of them doing literally anything else.

The "nuance" and "anti-usa messages" was just a bunch of misplaced and inconsequential internal conflict that did not feel earned in any way, misogyny and random, boring and inconsistent jury scenes (sorry, "hearing" scenes or whatever they called so there wouldn't have to be consistent rules to follow). And the main character was so damn boring. And they didn't even represent the actual science parts well. And the editing was so weird and the flashing scenes didn't fit and were repetitive. And there was a happy ending for some reason?? It was a whole bunch of nothing with music building momentum that never went anywhere in the background of every scene for 3 hours and I wanted to leave the room for how angry it made me that this subject was treated that way and would probably get praised for it.

there was a local winter tradition of sledding down the hill at my school. kids would use pizza boxes and jackets and whatever worked, howling and laughing. back in september, they made a big announcement that this time, rules were changing, and everyone must pay 10 dollars to participate. when im not scared shitless, i kind of appreciate the environmental irony - it hasn't gone below 40. so much for snow & joyriding.

i saw a bulletin for a local dogwalking group and, nervous about making a good first impression, showed up early. the first guy there grimaced at me. "sorry," he said. "there's a 30-dollar buy-in fee." i thought he was joking. wait. for what? the group doesn't offer anything except friendship and people with whom to walk around the city.

he didn't know the answer. just shrugged at me. "you know," he said. "these days, everything costs money."

#i am Back #i haven’t posted on tumblr in 5 years and i’m not really a Stan anymore #still love harry #i just spent hours reading all my old posts and realized i missed being here #also other social media is trash and all i feel is anger and dread looking at the dumb things people say #so i’m gonna try this out #life update if you even care #i graduated college and i’ve lived in madrid for 3 years working as an english teacher :) #i’m unbelievably still dating the boy i started posting about 5 years ago #things got messy for a while and i’m not sure how much longer it will last :/ but i’m deeply attached to him #my younger sister just had a baby girl last week (the first grandchild!!) #i live in an apartment with two amazing girls i am proud to call my best friends #life is not perfect but it’s good #hi to everyone who still follows me you are incredible #i forgot to say i’m just gonna pick up where i left off on this blog cuz i don’t feel like making a new one #but will slowly make changes when i figure out what i want to post about #probs will not be much related to harry or 1d although i still love them all dearly #probably more art/fashion related and just stuff i like #so yeah :) welcome back to me

Sometimes it's like... is this person just... a very slow typist... or are they really choosing their words and adding and deleting a bunch of stuff

(this is obviously about seeing people respond on discord and then seeing the message they typed compared to when they started typing it)

#as opposed to the mutual I talk with on discord where they'll sometimes take a while to type #but if they do it's because there's gonna be a fair bit of thoughts I'll get to read #as opposed to just now where the person I was talking two took like... 3 minutes and then I ended up with 3 short sentences #...I suppose they could be writing from their phone... #there's a degree of irony to me being one of the faster typists I know given I never had training #(just did quick chicken peck style one finger typing) #and the only reason I got fast is because of sending people messages on here and wanting to be able to respond fast #and I didn't like... train; I just typed a lot and my hands figured it out for me #and I think I wound up on something similar but a bit different from what's taught #like 'f' must be where you're supposed to rest your left index; but paying attention I notice mine tends to hand out on 'd' #but... don't know how fast I am in wpm cause... don't care enough to check #but... I'd say it's above average at least based on how long it takes other people to respond sometimes vs the rate I do things #plus I can type pretty well with my eyes closed #like I'll do this tag blind and it's more or less at the same rate #main thing I have to worry about is running out of space #other funny thing is I can just feel when I make a mistake and backspace with my eyes closed #like I could feel I wrote eyse instead of eyes there and... look at that; opening them up and I see I fixed it right #anyway... not sure I have a point
