Truthfully, Techno didn't know why he stood here, hand hovering above the wood of a door. Even less did he understand why he felt so nervous about going in. The words 'Dream's Study' felt like a permanent 'do not disturb' sign. He knew how much he hated to be interrupted when he worked, especially for trivial matters such as a minor headache. Techno hadn't seen Dream for a while, and it was showing with how Chat nagged and clawed at his brain. He wasn't quite at the stage of attacking his dearest friends and causing major property damage because of their volume and relentlessness, but Dream had asked--pleaded, to be more precise--for him to visit before it got to that point. So, here he stood, trying to think of how to phrase his current predicament without sounding like a total loser. And Chat was not helping.

"What? Techno's outside? How-OW!"

Techno startled upon hearing the exclamation accompanied by a thud and finally kicked himself into gear, opening the door and peeking inside to see Dream standing up from behind his desk, cradling his horns and uttering more hisses of pain. "Dream? You alright?"

"Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm fine! Jus' bumped my head is all. I'm alright." The blond waved off his concern as he sank into his chair. "Is something up? Chat being loud again?"

The piglin god decided to step further into the room. He'd gone this far, might as well go the full mile. "Well, not at the moment now that you're, ya know, talkin'."

"Aw, they just missed me, huh?" Dream rested his head in his hand, smile smug and eyes scrunched.

As if Techno's absolutely scathing remark wasn't enough of a blow to the man's ego, several Blobs then decided it was their special moment to shine as they dropped down on Techno chirping and cooing not too unlike Phil's crows. He glanced up to see many more piled on a hammock above his head. The majority still soundly slept. Techno could only imagine what it'd look like if they were all awake.

"Hey! What have I told you guys about personal space?" Dream promptly stood from his chair and came over to brush the little Blobs off, a bright gold strong as sunshine glowing on his cheeks. It really didn't match the stern expression he was trying to show. "I'm so sorry about them. We're still working on that..." He didn't meet Techno's eyes as his hands swiped across his shoulders. Not even when he reached further up, lifting on the tips of his toes to pluck away the ones that had settled in his hair.

"They're not so bad. At least they're cute. Chat is just plain annoyin'," Techno grumbled.

Techno pressed a hand to his temple, face twisting in discomfort. "You don't have to hear 'em all the time..."

Dream offered a sympathetic smile before he seemed to get an idea. "Would you like to rest with me while I fulfill some dream requests?"

"I don't wanna bother ya if you're workin'-"

"You wouldn't be a bother, ya big idiot. C'mon, I could use the company." He smiled sweetly, taking Techno by the arm with pretty green eyes begging from under long blond lashes. Naturally, Techno let himself be dragged away--but he still wasn't a simp, Chat, shut up--to a different corner of the office: an area that closely resembled a pillow fort.

Techno really had to duck down to enter it, clearly not built for a god his size. Inside was more spacious than it initially appeared. Made of many different colors and shapes of cushions, all draped with soft blankets, and partially bordered by the lower shelves of a bookcase. Dream easily found a spot to lay down, propped up and facing the curtain canopy. Techno squeezed against the nearest wall out of consideration for Dream's space, but regardless only managed a gap of mere inches. He too looked up, and when he did, he swore that nothing was above them at all. Tiny lights were strategically placed to emulate the night sky. Techno could even see certain constellations in the pattern.

"How did...?"

"Oh, some Blobs got into my glowstone dust by accident and they reminded me of stars, so I got this idea." And Techno believed him because when he squinted he saw, as his eyes adjusted to the change in lighting, many tiny Blobs hanging by thin threads with the proudest grins on their faces.

"Of course..." He huffed, smirking and shaking his head.

A comfortable silence succeeded his words, covering the pair in a particular kind of blanket. The kind that had Techno curiously glancing over to see Dream concentrating on a cloud held aloft by the green strings connected to his fingers.

"What's that one? If ya don't mind me askin'."

"Hm? Oh, well, usually I don't share other people's dreams. They're personal things, meant for your mind alone. But..." Dream got a small, almost mischievous smile on his face. "This one here is for one of my regulars."

"Regulars?"

"Mhm. I think she prays almost every night, always for the same thing. She's an old woman and recently her wife of almost 60 years passed away from an unfortunate accident. Do you know what she asks to dream of?"

Techno couldn't imagine knowing that much about a mortal. But then again, all those that prayed to him usually didn't live very long, so he supposed he just never got the chance to.

"What?"

"She just wants to speak with her again. Nothing else matters, except that she's there. They talk about so many things. Sometimes, they don't speak at all. Just sit there next to each other, enjoying the company. I've put them in all sorts of places. Relaxing on a beach, watching a fireworks display from afar, sitting on their rocking chairs in their living room..." He'd finished crafting the dream by then, offering it to one of the Blobs who devoured the cloud whole and promptly wiggled into the crevice of two pillows. Afterwards, he folded his hands atop his stomach and closed his eyes, smiling wistfully. "Such a sweet, pure love... I only hope someone will love me like that."

A heat unlike any other instantly filled Techno's cheeks.

Techno quickly sat up from the comfortable pile onto his elbow, resolutely pushing that thought out of his head.

"Techno?" Dream looked to him, gaze wide and inquisitive. The piglin god turned to stare down at him, and though he knew he had to say something that might finally shut Chat up about this, the words got caught in his throat. Green eyes were simply too pretty, surrounded by freckles and waves of golden blond. A hand surprised him out of his admiring. Gentle fingers pushed the hair that had fallen into Techno's face behind his pointed ear then came to a rest at his cheek. "Something wrong?"

"No," he answered with a shake of his head, placing his hand upon Dream's and leaning into the touch. It still didn't make a lot of sense to him, why Dream was so tender towards him despite his reputation and prowess... Or, perhaps, because of it? Techno cherished it all the same. "Nothin's wrong. 'm just... 'm not sure how to, how to word-"

"Tech," the sheep god murmured, now cupping both of Techno's cheeks and wearing a bittersweet smile, "you don't have to force yourself. I was just thinking out loud. I wasn't trying to-"

"It's not that, I mean, well, it is, but-" He sighed, closing his eyes to collect himself before opening them with a renewed determination. "I get what you're sayin' and I feel the same way."

"You do?"

"Ya think I'd come just to make Chat shut up? That's just a sweet bonus, dude."

Dream giggled, a similar blush rising on his face. "So, what does that mean?"

"It means I... would really like to kiss ya, if you'll let me."

The blush immediately brightened to a shimmering gold. He pushed himself to a sit as well, closing the gap between them to barely a few inches. "I think I'd like that."

They both leaned in, heads tilting to accommodate the other, but when Techno connected with something, he knew it was not Dream's lips. A Blob had managed to slip in at the last second, squeaking happily. The two pulled back in equal astonishment, allowing the Blob to drop on Dream's lap.

Dream's expression rapidly soured. "You little-!" He snatched the Blob up, gripping its little body in a tight grasp. "That's it. You're all going in timeout now." With a snap of his fingers, all the Blobs including the ones that hung from the ceiling exploded into puffs of clouds, leaving the two in near total darkness aside from Dream's glowing eyes. "Much better. Now..." Hands suddenly grabbed Techno by the shoulders and twisted them so he was flat on his back and Dream was straddling his waist. His voice lowered to a whisper as he leaned in once again, bright green illuminating both their faces. "Where were we?"

And now for something new

So, here's something I was never planning on doing, but I just couldn't shake the idea... Thanks Ken Penders is gaining a sister blog featuring an entirely different comic franchise!

Introducing... Thanks Steve Ditko, a blog where I read the Earth-616 Spider-Man comics, starting all the way back in the '60s! It's gonna be much more casual and less thorough than how I run things here on TKP, though, which I'll explain in a sec.

If seeing me post weird bits from old Spider-Man comics sounds fun and you need no further info, then just head right on over to Thanks Steve Ditko. But for longtime TKP readers, I know you probably have questions...

Number one: Why?

Spider-Man's always been my favorite superhero, and with the Spider-Verse movies kicking ass and my excitement building for the new Insomniac game, I've been in a Spidey mood. Inevitably, a thought occurred to me: Maybe I should actually read the comics that everything else is built off of and see the wildly varying contributions of all the original creators, rather than filtering them through big budget adaptations. If I can power through One Piece and all these other manga with hundreds of chapters, it can't be that hard... right?

And, well, after a few issues I quickly realized that my options were to either clog up my other accounts with random Spider-Man panels for years, or to just make a side blog. And so the side blog was born.

Two: Will this blog replace Thanks Ken Penders?

NO!!!!!!!!!

To allow the two to exist side-by-side, Thanks Steve Ditko will have a different format than what Thanks Ken Penders developed. Rather than an in-depth guided tour that critically analyzes every story beat of every issue, TSD will just be a place for amusing panels and brief thoughts as I casually read the comics at my own pace.

If you've seen me make a few tweets about reading Spider-Man recently, I'm basically just moving that to a dedicated Tumblr. It's a place for me to dump these things so that it doesn't fill up my media tab on Twitter for the next decade. (You know, assuming Twitter is still around in a decade.) There will be many issues where I only post two panels that I thought were funny. There will be issues where I don't have anything to say at all. Maybe I'll reach a run that I just cannot get into, and I start skipping around more. Who knows!

This may sound similar to what I thought this blog would be before it blew up. Aside from the simple fact that there's already mountains of Spider-Man commentary out there and therefore less of a void for me to fill, one of the main steps I'll be taking to avoid repeating the past is not enabling an ask box on TSD. I do not need people to ask me to go into ten times more detail on everything. I do not need to write seven essay-length responses to questions about Spider-Man minutiae every day. I do not need a place for people to chide me for not covering certain scenes, issues, or ancillary series.

It also won't have any kind of update schedule. I'm trying to keep it very casual. I'm reading these comics at my own pace, and if I feel like sharing a moment or commenting on something while doing so? It goes there. That's it.

(On the subject of format changes, I'm also listing the issue, writer, and penciller in the body of every post. This is a thing I wish I'd done on TKP so that people didn't misattribute every weird Archie Sonic panel I post to Penders.)

Three: So when will TKP come back from hiatus? You said it'd come back after you finished SLARPG!

I don't know! Sorry. I have a couple things on the backburner right now for TKP, but I'm not sure when I'll get back to proper updates where I read more comics.

I wanted to bring TKP back this year, and that's still possible. The main hurdle is that I want to reread my own archive (again) as a refresher, which is, uh. A lot of posts. I've developed a high standard for myself on here, and I feel like I wouldn't be doing my job right if I forgot half the ongoing subplots and character arcs and didn't bring them up in my analysis. Especially when I'm discussing the work of an author as obsessed with continuity as Ian Flynn. Unfortunately, the nature of this blog means that every time I go on another long hiatus for Life Reasons I have even more comic continuity to catch up on than last time.

(This is a big part of why I'm making Thanks Steve Ditko an extremely casual blog instead of promising to become a Lore Expert on 60+ years of Marvel.)

Mostly I've just been very burnt out this year after having finally finished a video game that took almost eight years to make. I haven't really had the energy for any creative projects, including TKP. But I feel a little bit of a spark here with Spider-Man, so I'm chasing that feeling to try to get back into the swing of blogging about comics - no pun intended.

So, basically, bear with me on this as I start this low-energy side project. But hopefully folks will enjoy Thanks Steve Ditko as its own thing, too.

I’ve been seeing some writing advice that annoys me lately, and so, here’s some advice about writing advice from me:

“your teachers taught you wrong”, “unlearn the way your teachers taught you x”, and “you don’t learn in school” kinds of framings are often disingenuous. normally at the middle/high school level you aren’t learning creative writing, which is what most writing advice posts on tumblr, by contrast, are about. yes there ARE problems with the five paragraph essay and similar structures, but those are mostly to teach you how to structure an argument, not to teach you how to write a short story or novel. your teachers weren’t misleading you; your teachers were teaching you to do something totally different than what you’re trying to do now. cut them some slack and remember that you do have to know the basic principles to know when to break them.

gonna say that again: advice that says “throw out this basic convention/grammatical rule/formatting standard” is missing the point of throwing those things out. yes, in creative writing you can throw all of that out if you want to. however, you have to know the basic rules to understand when to break them. basic rules are there because they’re relatively easy to understand for the reader and largely invisible; breaking those rules becomes noticeable. just make sure you’re breaking them because you want it to be noticed, and in a way that makes it so your point is still legible. (similarly, advice saying “never throw this thing out” is probably also missing the point.)

advice suggesting to always structure sentences or paragraphs a certain length is typically wrong. the actual answer is typically that you should vary it. varied sentence structure and paragraph length is easier and more interesting to read than it all being the same, and the more extreme breaks of pattern become more noticeable and impactful if you don’t do them the whole time. so like, yeah, keep that in mind.

you do have to still read. sorry there really isn’t getting around it, if you want to write good you need to read the kinds of things you want to write.

the lines between “trope”, “cliche”, “beloved genre convention”, and “emotional and impactful twist” are super thin and depends on circumstance. unless the thing is like, actively racist, there aren’t many tropes/cliches/conventions that are universally bad. they’re tools for the circumstance. this is where knowing what tone you’re going for helps a lot and can help you figure out what tools are most useful.

genres are marketing tools and shouldn’t be the driver of what you write. however, genres have fans for a reason, and understanding the conventions of the genre you’re trying to write will help you a lot. yes this is contradictory I know but that’s just how life is. generally ignore advice about a genre that comes from someone who doesn’t like that genre, but also ignore advice that suggests that you can never do something in a specific genre (once again useless it’s actively bigoted or something you know the drill).

it’s actually perfectly okay to write for other people. you should know what audience you’re writing for. just don’t write entirely for other people, and if the numbers make you feel bad, find ways to cut the numbers out of your life. you should write what makes you happiest, after all. for most of us on tumblr this is a hobby and not a job. you just don’t have to feel guilty for imagining an imaginary audience while writing or even getting validation from a real audience, because those things are perfectly normal too.

you don’t have to write every day unless you want to. practice is important to write good, as is like, actually writing, but burnout will hurt you, so figure out a pace that works for you. as long as that pace makes sure you still write with somewhat regularity, it is between you and no one else how many words that is or how frequent it is.

you’re here to have fun. sometimes it won’t be fun; sometimes it’ll be emotional or a grind or frustrating or infuriating. that’s fine too, you don’t have to feel ecstatic glee every moment of the writing process. you’re allowed to have bad writing days. you also shouldn’t feel miserable the whole time. if you don’t have fun when you’re writing ever, not even the euphoria of having a completed final product, then take a step back.

you’re doing great, I promise. writing advice is bullshit. even this advice is probably bullshit. do what works for you. this is the literal definition of an art and not a science, after all.

This post will be an introduction to scripting - you can also use scripting for manifesting but this post will mainly talk about scripting from a reality shifting point of view. I will start off with some general calcifications for the people who are new to reality shifting itself.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠?

“Simply put, reality shifting is the movement of your consciousness from one reality to another (...). Think of yourself not as one physical body but as one conscious being that expands over all realities. When you shift, you tune into that consciousness in another reality.” - @astra-nomy

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐛𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬

DR (desired reality) - The reality you want to shift to. You can have as many DRs as you want.

DR self (desired reality self) - This refers to yourself in your desired reality.

CR (current reality) or OR (original reality) - It’s the reality you’re shifting from to your DRs and back. Basically, the reality you're living in right now.

WR (waiting room) - This is a reality you can make up and use as something like a lobby where you can go to before shifting to your DRs. You don’t need a waiting room but many use it to spend some time there when they want to 'escape' their CR for a bit but also don’t want to go to their DRs.

In the following paragraphs I will explain what scripting is and how to do it. I will also try to give you some ideas for scripting and answer some common questions.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠?

If you want to shift realities you can write a script to define what you would like to experience in your DR - how you should look like, how you want things to play out or how you want the reality to look like etc. Whatever you script will happen in your DR.

𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐀 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭?

No, not really. Scripting is completely optional and you don’t need a script to shift. As shifting mainly operates on the bases of your subconsciousness, you don’t need to script everything because your subconsciousness already knows what you want - because it's you. It's just that scripting helps most of us with visualizing certain things, organizing our thoughts and committing to our idea of what exactly we want to experience. Reading your script before attempting to shift can also make the process of shifting easier for you.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐨 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐈𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭?

Actually, you don’t need to keep anything in mind while scripting. There are no rules on how to do it and there are many different ways to script. Just find a way of scripting that you enjoy.

The format doesn’t matter. You can find yourself a cute notebook and use it for scripting or you can make a digital script.

You don’t need to care about your way of phrasing things. You don’t need to write from a specific perspective. You can write it as if you're creating a character or you can write it from your point of view. Also, you don’t need to write full sentences. You can just write ‘brown hair’ instead of ‘I have brown hair’ or you can just use an emoji that shows someone with brown hair - it really doesn't matter how you do it as long as YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN.

It is not always about writing, you can also use pictures to express what you mean. For example you can make a moodboard or create a file on your phone with pictures representing what you want. Or you can even make a presentation or a short video.

You don’t need to script every detail! The length of your script doesn’t matter! You could just write ‘I have brown hair.’ as the only thing to script and anything else in your DR would still include all the other things you want. I often see people who get anxious when they try to shift because they feel like they haven’t scripted enough - that is totally unreasonable! As I said before, your subconsciousness already knows what you want and making a script is not even necessary to begin with. So please be careful with getting obsessed with making your script ‘perfect’. If you can’t decide on something just leave it open instead of being unhappy with what you scripted- your subconsciousness will fill in all the gaps. Just make it enjoyable for yourself!

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐈𝐧 𝐌𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭?

You can include anything you want! But I will give you some ideas on what to include but just know that they are not necessary.

ꜱʜɪꜰᴛɪɴɢ ᴀꜰꜰɪʀᴍᴀᴛɪᴏɴꜱ:

Here you can write down just normal shifting affirmations. You can also script how you shift like with a certain method or with a certain action like tapping your wrist free times and saying the name of your DR whatever.

ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴅʀ:

You can define how your DR looks like, what the living circumstances are, you can make up new stuff in your DR (especially if you're shifting to a series/movie). You can script that racism or homophobia and stuff like that doesn't exist there or just that everyone is being treated right. If your DR is based on a movie/series you can script that certain events don’t happen and you can make up new events/situationships. You can script certain scenarios you want to happen. Also, some people write down their first shifting moment - when and where they shift to and how they want it to play out. I also saw some people writing down stuff like ‘No one finds my behavior weird the first time a shift’ etc.

ꜱᴀꜰᴇ ᴡᴏʀᴅꜱ/ᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴꜱ:

A safe word in shifting is a word or action or phrase you can say when you quickly want to go back to your CR or WR! It works instantly and it can be anything you want - many use something weird that you wouldn’t say normally in your daily life but something you can easily remember (something like ‘Hakuna matata’ or ‘Back to the ghetto’ lmao). If you want, you can also script that your safe words will only work when you want it to and/or you can script that you always remember your safe words.

ᴛɪᴍᴇ ʀᴀᴛɪᴏ/ᴛɪᴍᴇ ᴇQᴜɪᴠᴀʟᴇɴᴄᴇ:

Here you define how much time passes in one reality (CR/DR) when you’re in another reality. For example, you could just script that ‘1 Week in your DR equals 30 minutes in your CR’ or that ‘1 year in your DR equals 1 hour in your CR’. Also, you can script that no time passes in your CR when you're in one of your DRs. And the same goes the other way around (how much time passes in your DRs when you’re in your CR). There are some rumors going around that a huge time difference would strain your body once you come back to your CR but that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. You could script that everytime you shift back to your CR you’re well rested and healthy - or something like that.

ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴅʀ ꜱᴇʟꜰ:

You can list personal details (name, age, birth date etc.). You can describe how you look like, what your personality is like, what kind of powers or skills you have, what kind of background you have, your life circumstances, your housing, your family etc.

ɪᴍᴍᴜɴɪᴛʏ/ꜱᴀꜰᴇᴛʏ ᴀꜰꜰɪʀᴍᴀᴛɪᴏɴ:

Really useful is also to script a certain immunity. I know that many people want to shift to certain realities that are a bit dangerous and where you have to fight and stuff so you could script something like ‘I am immune to being attacked/hurt. I am always safe and protected. I am immortal. I am immune poison or dr*gs.’ etc. I would also advise you maybe to script that you are immune to bringing trauma from your DRs to your CR and back or that your mental health stays unaffected. Also, you could think about what you would like to happen in the case of you dying in one of your DRs. I, for example, have scripted that I always wake up in my waiting room once I die in one of my DRs. It’s pretty much up to you what safety affirmation you use and it I guess it also depends on where you're shifting to.

ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀꜱ ᴀɴᴅ ʀᴇʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴꜱʜɪᴘꜱ:

You can make up new characters in your DR or include people from your CR (like your best friend). You can script their appearance, personality, abilities, your connections with etc. The same goes for characters that are already in your DR, you can change them completely or you can script how you are connected to them, what kind of relationship you have with them or how you get to meet them etc.

ᴍᴇᴍᴏʀɪᴇꜱ:

It could also be interesting for you to think about how you deal with your memories. I saw someone writing down that they forget their CR memories for a certain period of time to really experience life in their DR and then get their memories back at a certain time (for example after they went through the main plot). You can also script that when you’re in your DR that your CR is a distant memory but you’re aware that you need to return to your CR. Regarding your life in your CR: You could script that the memories of your DRs are stored in a library in your Waiting Room or you can script that your DR memories are just like fainted memories (like that of dreams) in your CR - so that it doesn’t affect you too much in your daily CR life. If you have romantic/close relationships with people in your DR, I would recommend to script that you don’t feel these feelings as intense or not at all when you're in your CR (so that you don’t struggle with missing them or get ‘homesick’ in your CR). Another tip from me is that if you have a waiting room, try to shift to your WR first. There you can process the experiences of your DR and try to rest for some time and mentally prepare yourself for your CR life before shifting back to your CR - because many often struggle in their daily CR life after shifting back especially if they stayed in their DR for a long period of time - and you can avoid that if you give yourself enough time in (for example) a waiting room.

As there is no limit to what you can script you can also include magical items (magical watch/bag etc) for your DR or stuff like ‘I don’t get my period in my DR.’ to make your life more easier there.

Manna's Winter 'Fic Requests 2023 ❄

It's been many years since I've done this, but I thought I'd get something up and going early enough to give me plenty of time to write and edit.

It works like this: you fill out the Google Form linked below and I will try to write you a 'fic before the end of the year based on the prompt you give me. The story I write may be any length unless specified otherwise (i.e., drabble length, flash fiction, 50 sentences, whatever).

✨Rules/Info:

You do not need to be a "mutual" to request fic; however, I would ask that you be at least somewhat familiar with my writing.

You can request anonymously if you prefer.

If there is something you really do not want to see in your fic for any reason: tell me. I have no desire to write something that might hurt or upset you.

DO NOT ask for ships I don't like or would never normally write. If you're uncertain please feel free to send me an ask, but in most cases just don't break up my OTP lol.

Prompts can be almost anything. I like to think I'm pretty creative with even one-word prompts, but if you're short on ideas the good old "5 times" format is a classic.

You may request AUs! Just keep in mind that if you choose an AU that would typically be relegated to "longfic territory" (mail order bride AU, declining Tethe'alla, etc) that what I write for it will probably be more of a snapshot in that AU rather than something to cover the scope of the entire thing, so if there's a particular element of that AU you would like to see me explore, please state it!

You may request a rewrite of an old story if there is one you remember from pre-2014 and would like to see revived. (If you don't remember the title just remind me what it was about.)

YOU MAY MAKE MULTIPLE REQUESTS. In fact, I prefer that people do this because it ups the chances I'll find inspiration.

You may not request longfic, but you can specify other parameters that are related to length (e.g., flash fiction, a story that covers a month with one sentence per day, etc).

Historical or Futuristic

I’de honestly have to say historical but I do like futuristic if it’s science related or post apocalyptic so it may be a tie it just depends on how its done or what genre it is. My own writing usually takes place present times with some futuristic technology added in, just because I would be too nervous of messing up anything historically related.

Opening or Closing Chapter

Closing chapter. I love it when things end its my favourite it just feels like checking something off a to do list, otherwise im left with an empty unaccomplished unfinished feeling and that mental list in my head never gets checked off (im looking at you manga i never finished reading)

Light and Fluffy or Dark and Gritty

Dark and Gritty is always my go to, but certain genres I do like just nice fluff- Like most G/t related things. Hamster story is pretty light compared to most of my other works… TSATS is verging on concerningly harsh.

Animal Companion or Found Family

Found family <3 I love <3 especially when it represents the queer community. Animal companions I never really felt anything for… Like an anime mascot. Clarence reminds me of a mascot character since they’re sadly outnumbered by humans.

Horror or Romance

Horror. Idc about romance pretty much at all, like I have ships, and its cute and a common story element but im pretty ace (probably aro) and it just isn’t in my top interests. I have done romance rp’s which I adored but horror is always my top pick <333

Hard Magic System or Soft Magic System

My world building has a hard magic system with some loose rules if that makes sense… Especially my small elves they have a lot of set rules that I try to follow, especially with how their magic works and what they can do.

Stand-alone or Series

I like both, but series does have more impact a lot of the time. Pretty much all of my own stories are meant to be one book though. Theres already so much detail and world building and stuff for me to remember its easier for me to keep it at a manageable length. TSATS is by far my longest story but I don’t really know how long it really is in a book format…

Edit- I didn’t understand this last night at 2 am LMAO, I definitely like a series better than stand alones.

One Project at a Time or Always Juggling 2+

Im juggling so many things its actually disastrous. Its too much. Hamster story is taking priority right now because I seem to have a steady follower base for it and I want to keep it going at a nice pace ^_^ the other ones I don’t know if I will post so they’re really not in any rush. I would like to finish rats race though just for myself because I want to move onto better things and move away from the boxboy-esque genre.

Doesn’t matter either way. I don’t want to get too well known because I am uneasy about people forming negative opinions on me, which tends to be unavoidable for many many famous people, even if they’ve done barely anything wrong.

Fantasy or Sci-Fi

Both :) I do have to admit I lean more towards fantasy most times because it’s usually pretty and whimsical and foresty which is all mesmerizing to me. TSATS has both which I still don’t see too often so I find that really fun to play with. It still definitely leans on the fantasy side since its from my small elves perspective.

Character Description or Setting Description

Character description. I read things for the characters and like to know what they look like and know their quirks and such. Honesty I always have to look at my writing and try to see where I can add more setting descriptions because im always so focused on the characters and forget that people kinda need to know their surroundings… The characters aren’t just standing in a white void 😭😭 I swear. Sometimes I its more vague because I will not remember the colour of Ratty’s car, or what Kats house looks like for example… so I leave the details out…

First Draft or Final Draft

I only ever do first drafts and trying to get more comfortable with doing second drafts and editing but I would really love to have a final draft someday hoo boy… someone teach me how to do it haha 😂 /srs/gen/pls go into my dms

2: I admire the dedication to crafting a character that can fit in so easily and naturally into a certain canon/fandom. I admire the time spent finding a faceclaim for the character because I am terrible at doing that. I admire the balls to strike out on your own and create a character that is solely your own.

4: Probably still going to say Hannibal Lecter.

6: I love that they are all strong people in their own ways. I love that they have experienced trauma and they have been able to survive that trauma and begin to work towards carving out an existence beyond that trauma. They haven't always dealt with it the best way but they have survived and attempted to thrive and that says a lot. I also love how sassy they can be in their own ways and their capacity to love in different ways to differing degrees. Love is very important.

7: Insisting on people only writing with you if they can do icons too. I don't mind people using icons, I think it's kool and the same applies to formatting, but to those insisting that you can only write with them if you format the shit out of posts or use icons, no that's not fair. I love when someone does that and it clearly states in their rules that you don't have to do the same to write with them. I'm like 'fuck yes!'. We shouldn't live in a world where, if you don't meet the aesthetic, then you can't associate with someone.... oh wait, that literally is our world isn't it? Think about it. Why should our rpc be the same?

10: I write because if I don't, I will probably go mad. Well, I say mad, I will go even crazier than I already am. It also won't act as a distraction and when I don't have an adequate enough distraction, I start thinking, and when I start thinking especially if I'm on my own, we hit dangerous, potentially hospitalisation/death territory. It used to be a hobby, now it's pretty much a crutch.

16: I prefer replies that are the appropriate length for what is occurring at the time. I don't mind if some are short or if some are longer, so long as it feels like what needs to be said has been said.

25: If you want to rp with me, that's great, but I would expect you to write the starter, just as if I approached you for rp, I would want to write the starter. It just seems fair to me.

How to swarm

In our conscious mind (our front room, or Bridge) we can swarm each other.

Almost always, this is not a threatening thing, but a loving thing, like a group hug. Only we're just pressing our consciousnesses up against each other and feeling the warm of our inworld bodies as we rub shoulders and haunches against each other. Sometimes hugging is involved. But so is also many voices talking at once.

It's an absolutely wonderful experience, and more and more we find ourselves wishing that we could swarm people in the outworld.

So we're thinking about how to go about doing that.

We can't do it physically, because we have just the one body.

But we can, in succession, let several coconscious headmates talk in a conversation. In fact, we frequently do this already. This very post is not written by just one person, for instance. And if you talk to us at any length in person, you'll hear our voice changing regularly as different members contribute to the conversation. Sometimes we'll even talk with each other out loud.

So, like, in person, swarming would be doing something like hugging our girlfriend while in bed, legs and arms wrapped around her, and then rapidly switching as we talk to her, each of us saying what we individually want to say. That should give some sort of sense that there are many of us there, surrounding her.

They way to swarm someone online is more removed, and more humorous. Lighter. Probably best done sparingly and in certain circumstances where it might be taken as humorous rather than intimate. Also, it'd probably work best in long form comments and posts, and not on Twitter (though it could still be done there). We feel like it would work best with quotes delineating separate comments, and leaving out identifiers or just using initials. Just quotes: "We do think that this could be confusing to a lot of people." "True, but it comes very naturally to us, and leaving out our names or initials makes it feel more organic, more like how we think."

"It rocks!"

"Yeah. More or less. We've definitely done this in our novels. Leaving out names also makes it read faster."

"So, anyway..." Initials and quotes:

F - "This format is harder to type."

E - "Yeah, I don't like it, personally."

A - "Still, it could be worth it in order to make it more personal, don't you think?"

F - "Extra work for extra emotional impact? Perhaps."

Just initials, so that we all can compare:

Ab - Part of the problem with initials for us is that so many of us have the same first letter.

Anyway, we're kind of thinking something like that, only all the dialogue would be directed at the person we're swarming, possibly with a string of questions if we want to be obnoxious about it. But, like, briefly arguing with each other over how cool someone's idea is would be kind of neat.

This needs to be applied with care, however. It could easily become tedious and annoying.

Also, some form of consent is needed if it's anything more than a few reasonable comments.

We do also daydream about doing this in a creepy and threatening way, but we're not going to practice that. We can't think of a good way to make it foreboding and uncomfortable deliberately, and we don't really want to be known for doing that. It's just a daydream about overwhelming bigots, which really just isn't worth doing online. Better to just block them. Or there are more direct and effective methods of shutting them down in person, too.

Replies to threads can take me anywhere from minutes to hours to days due work and school. Additionally, I’m human, so sometimes I have more inspiration for certain threads over others.

I do my best to make my dash a place of positivity & I will do what I need to to keep it that way; hate, drama, vagueposting, callouts, excessive negativity, etc etc and I’ll unfollow.

I love shipping. I do not automatically ship anything, even if it’s canon. However, I’m open to just about any ship if I feel that there’s chemistry. I don’t generally have exclusives, but if that’s something you’re interested in, shoot me a PM. I’m also happy to discuss pre-established relationships, etc.

I occasionally use 100x100 icons and small text, but this blog will likely be mostly text-based. I don’t really care what your formatting looks like so long as I can read it. My post length varies, but I usually write at least two-para replies.

What's your favorite social media platform? What do you like about it?

Hmm. I'm actually not very big on social media as a concept. It's not a big draw for me, and I've been pretty good at not interacting with any particular social media (although I'm currently playing with the possibility of having a Tumblr sideblog)

But since the answer to this question seems to have changed, I've changed my mind a little bit. Facebook has been around longer than any of the other social media sites (and it's a lot better organized than other sites I've used); I do use it a lot, as do lots of other people I know. And even if I don't use it a ton, it has the feature I care the most about: groups.

Tumblr and, to a certain extent, Instagram are my favorite because of how user-made they are. Tumblr doesn't have any "official" organization, and users can set up groups and do stuff that feels like they're running a club. I don't have any particular use in mind right now, but I do want a social media space that is more like the experience I get on tumblr.

When I'm looking for content it's probably a combination of things I look for that I don't see anywhere else, which is:

- people I've never seen before talking about things they care about in a personal way, especially for non-serious things (although this is not always the case, there are a lot of serious-sounding and interesting-sounding people on tumblr, I just need them in more contexts, because the same person can be serious in one thing and silly in a different one)

- lots and lots of really long text, the kind that people are always writing and reading on tumblr, often stuff that's fun to read but often has a lot going on. I don't care so much about "drama" or anything like that, but just anything that feels like it goes on forever and you don't really know where it's going -- and in particular I like reading long things about the same topic from different people. I especially love it when the topics are things I already care about or am interested in, even though that's hard to find.

- people who are also into similar things I am into. Not a big part of my life, but it's important to me on a purely "personal preference" level that it be there.

- aesthetic/artistic photos, videos, etc. (I want the option to browse Tumblr without seeing a lot of "people talking about how they like art/music" and "people talking about how they don't like art/music.")

- a lot of long posts that don't fit into an easily-skippable format because of their length, which are often pretty serious. I don't expect to read anything on tumblr if the point isn't serious in some way, but I do like reading things that make me think about my day, like how I've been feeling or thinking.

- personal blogs. There are certain kinds of posts I want to see a lot (some of which are "drama" posts and I should avoid), but there are lots of personal blogs and it's important to me that they exist.

I guess those are all more or less the features I think are nice about Tumblr right now?

As for what makes Facebook good, it's a social network. What it isn't is like most other sites -- it has no particular theme or content. It's just a social network, and I like that.

I've heard from some people that their Facebook experiences (in the sense of like, they see people who are often interesting/important/etc) are different from mine, but I dunno. I still feel like people (e.g. my Facebook friends) have to be a lot more important and a lot more like me to make me want to post or see their stuff, and to a first approximation the same people I see are people I already know through the internet generally.

Another interesting thing I like about Facebook is that while it is an awful app to use, it's an easy app to use. For other sites I've used, the interface is kind of complicated, and there's a million little things to think about and look up before I can do anything. With Facebook, the interface is basically all there is to use. If I want to do things, I just do them in the Facebook app, which is an app that, unlike most apps, was designed for social networking. It has basically the same functionality as the website, but it's a really easy app to use.

(One of the big problems with Twitter is that the whole site is designed to be easy to use but the app is actually complicated. The Twitter app is not designed to be a social networking tool, and it forces you to learn a bunch of new social media things in order to use it like a normal Twitter client. For example, every tweet on Twitter has its own unique URL and the default page displays tweets chronologically and in reverse chronological order. It's not like any other app, and you have to learn how to use it. The Twitter app also has special functionality -- you can "follow" a blog or a person, but you can't follow a hashtag, for example, you have to follow the person and then type the hashtag you want to see posts from.)

I. ABOUT THE WRITER:

Hi! I’m Siren, my pronouns are she/her and I’m in the GMT-3 timezone. Please, keep in mind that English is not my first language, and though I speak it fluently, I’m still bound to make mistakes, so do not refrain from letting me know when I do. II. ON CONTENT:

Due to the themes dealt with in the books, this account will cover things that might be sensitive to some, such as violence, descriptions of blood and gore, amongst others. I will try to add the trigger warnings accordingly to the tags in my posts when needed, but if I ever miss anything or if there is something in particular that you would like me to tag so you can filter, please, do not refrain from asking me! While we’re at it, I only ask that you tag for rape and domestic violence if it’s something that is described in your posts. They’re not topics that I will particularly avoid reading or writing about if need be, they’re just sensitive enough that I would like a warning in advance to know that it’s coming before I read them so I’m not caught by surprise, as that would make me uncomfortable.

III. ON INTERACTING AND STYLE:

Memes never expire and starter calls are always open to mutuals! Continuing meme interactions is encouraged, and you’re free to end interactions whenever you want as well. If I ever write something that does not work for you, don’t hesitate to come talk to me ( I will do the same ). When it comes to godmodding, if you’re a more experienced spy; one of Cammie’s or Macey’s superiors, or something of the sort, certain things may be discussed. However, if your muse is a regular indiviual or someone not as experienced as Cammie and Macey (or maybe even in the same level as them), it is absolutely NOT tolerated. They are trained to the best of their abilities, mentally and physically, and cannot be easily harmed. Please, run things like that by me first. I write in present tense, third person, and my icons can vary from still images to gifs. I don’t mind what tense you use, or if you prefer to write in first or third person, as long as you don’t write in second. Heavy formatting will not be included in my writing, but I don’t particularly mind those who choose to add it to theirs, if it is of easy understanding.

IV. ON PLOTTING:

Plotting is not mandatory to write with me ( I accept just about all memes and starters ), but it is preferred. I enjoy long and lasting threads, focused on both the story that moves it forward and the characters’ dynamics & developments, which I absolutely adore to discuss about with my writing partners as the threads are being written, headcanonning and coming up with ideas that bounce off of each other will definetly spark up my muse and allow interactions to escalate quicker.

V. ABOUT THE BLOG AND MY PORTRAYAL:

This is a literate and highly detailed portrayal of Cammie Morgan and Macey Mchenry from the Gallagher Girls, I love exploring every aspect of my interactions from a light-hearted banter to a fully fledged, carefully crafted storyline, so I’m afraid that one-liners simply won’t do for me; and while I don’t expect my mutuals to match the length of my replies by any means, I do expect you to give me something to work with in yours. I will follow an independent, heavily headcanon based portrayal of the girls; I do intend to write them older and out of the Academy as well, which by then it will be entirely based on my headcanons, but for their school years, they will be loosely based on the books. I tend to follow more canon-divergent paths when coming up with plots, and do keep in mind that I use the source material merely as background, when necessary. I take what I like from canon and throw the rest away, pretty much lol

I read everyone’s rules page before following to see if we would click; followbacks are based off of writing style and muse compatilibity, if there aren’t any problematic themes on your blog and if trigger warnings are tagged accordingly in your posts, and of course, I’ll only write with mutuals. My muse can be very centered around certain characters, ships or dynamics at times, so for thar reason, I’ll eventually end up focusing on getting some replies first, and having things pilling up because I’m forcing myself to write with everybody will only make me anxious to be around, so I hope that you guys understand if I don’t pick up storylines with everyone, it’s nothing against you, it’s just my own muse, really. I do try to write with as many people as I can, you’ll just have to be a little patient if your replies are not coming while I’m writing with others, just know that I’m not one to forget replies that I owe and that I will eventually get to yours, whether that takes me a little longer or not. In regards to crossovers, I will be very selective about them, but they’re possible. It’s not something that I will particularly look out for, I’ll only do them if someone from other verses is interested in writing with me and if I know the fandom their character is from, of course. Muse compatibility is also a factor that will count on whether I start a crossover or not, but feel free to follow me nevertheless if you have something in mind ♡

tumblr etiquette 101

a list that is nowhere near exhaustive, from yours truly.

First off, welcome! Whether you’re a twitter veteran looking for anything but whatever twitter is, or a new user just done signing up, glad to see you in our ranks beloveds! Welcome home. Refer to this quick tour to make sure your fandom experience (or tumblr experience in general) is a positive one!

Disclaimer: I know it’s long, but please try to read or skim through til the end if you’re new here! This is by no means meant to be a rule book (for the most part lol), only a guide to help you get settled easier!

1) Your blog

This is where people will see and interact with you, so put some effort into it!

Try to choose a name (url) that’s simple. You can see it as your brand, it’s how people will perceive you and remember you. If you’d like to interact with other users here (and not use the site just for the content) it’s better to have something short and sweet, preferably without spaces. (Of course, these are only suggestions.) Rest assured, you can change it literally any time you want.

Have a theme. Utilize the tool that lets you edit your blog’s color or the font of your bio! You can make it match your profile picture, or your blog if it has a theme of its own. Make it feel homey :]

Fill in your bio. People will be checking out your profile probably more often than you think. Don’t leave it empty! Put in any information you’re comfortable with sharing and isn’t too personal (like your age if you’re a minor, or other TMI that can be found on other people’s carrds). It’s always better to add a name/nickname people can use to refer to you by, but feel free to use your blog description to shitpost still.

You can have an intro post. More often than not, you’ll see a blog have a pinned post, a post permanently appearing at the top of a blog until you pin another post or unpin it. You can make one of those, if you’d like to introduce yourself in more length, link any other socials or a carrd, and show others visiting your blog how you tag things so it’ll be easy for them to navigate. Not an obligation.

Keep your anonymity and your safety. It should go without saying, but there’s no harm in repeating it just in case. Your comfort, privacy and safety has the utmost importance. Don’t share any information you don’t want to. Don’t share your age if you’re a minor, or any other incredibly personal info. I’d encourage you to go by a nickname that’s not your real name, (blog name, your brand, remember?) since there’s safety in anonymity, and that’s lowkey one of the big deals of tumblr, but that’s up to you still.

Choose what you want to be visible. Your liked posts and who you follow are all things you can set to keep to yourself and hide from the publics eye, how handy! You should go through all the setting while you’re at it, set it to your comfort.

Side blogs are a thing. You can have multiple blogs that you can use for different things (see: different fandoms, art blog, etc) to keep them organized or away from your followers. Just remember that the replies and off-anon asks you send will be from your main blog, as well as where you follow other blogs from.

2) Interacting with others

You’ve set up your account, now comes the fun part!

Follow to your heart’s desire. If you care about others seeing who you follow, fear not! In tumblr, usually only two types of blogs keep their following visible to others: newbies, and big blogs using it to point people on other good blogs’ direction. Just turn it off, and go ham following people.

Customize your dashboard. Gonna mention just two things here: this is another reason why it’s really important that you follow blogs without sparing, your dash will collect dust otherwise; and you should turn off “best stuff first” in your dashboard settings, to have a better community here and all.

Follow tags. You can set it in your settings that posts with your followed tags appear on your dashboard.

You can check the og post for edits and context. When you see a reblogged post you don’t understand the context of (or don’t recognize the character in case of fanarts), click on the profile so it will take you to the original post. From there you can check the original poster’s tags to get the context, or see if there have been any edits made to the post, since when you edit a post it doesn’t update any past reblogs.

Send people asks... This is how you make mutuals, people! Do it off-anon if you’d like them to know your blog, or anon if you’d rather not! (You can still end your messages with a signature to show you’re the same person, -[name] is one example.) Send them nice messages, ask their opinion on something, discuss things, or just straight up shitpost lol. Go wild. The sky’s your limit and it’s definitely more than 280 characters.

...and let them ask you! You can set your preference in the settings, do it on desktop tumblr to access more settings tho! What you can customize on mobile is limited (like letting people ask you things anonymously, that’s only on desktop settings). In my personal opinion, it’s always better to tag their username (or a nickname you give them, if they’re a friend) on that post, since you wouldn’t want your interactions with your friends to get buried in your blog forever.

Comment on posts. If you have something to say but don’t want the post to appear on your blog you can add a comment. The owner of the post will get a notif for it, but for anyone else you need to tag them.

For the love of god, reblog. People will only see your liked posts if you have it visible to public and they specifically go on your blog to look at them. You like something? You reblog. It’s already hard for posts to circulate properly, if you don’t reblog them literally no one will see them. If not for anything do it for the artists. Just hold and drag on mobile to fast rb.

3) Your Posts

Finally here! Don’t be a lurker, post and engage!

Make use of “read more”. If your post is long, add it. That’s what you clicked on earlier to expand this post. On desktop leave an empty line and you’ll see three dots appear, and on mobile type :readmore: on that empty line.

Draft a post to come back to it later. Pretty self explanatory.

Queue your post. Whether it’s your own post or you’re reblogging, make use of the queue feature to a) not spam reblog and fill up the dashboard of people following you and b) keep your blog active while you’re gone. Mess around in the settings, it’s fairly easy to set up.

Schedule your post. Same as queueing, the only difference is you get to choose the exact time your post will go up. Handy if you want to schedule a post for certain dates like april fools, or 5 years in the future for some reason. 

Format your texts. You can do all kinds of fancy stuff here (that’s a link, try pressing on it). Twitter doesn’t have this, make use of it. Changes depending on whether you’re on mobile or desktop. (Desktop has less features.)

Check your stats. If you’re trying to understand the algorithm better or want to look at some pretty graphs you can get your data on that on desktop tumblr.

@ people in comments. You’ll get all the notifs when people comment on your posts but they won’t see your reply unless you tag them in your message.

4) Tags, and tagging a post

This is where my earlier statement “this isn’t a rule book” stops being applicable. It’s not a war crime to go against these, I won’t come chasing you (don’t take my word for this) but you’ll work up a bad rep. Just saying lol.

Do NOT crosstag posts. It’s really tempting to add unrelated tags to increase your posts’ interaction, I know, but that’s not what tumblr is about. Don’t be a dick and make other communities’ experience worse for them.

Always tag your posts with “crit/critical/discourse/etc” if it calls for it. There’s no exceptions to it. This is the reason you see people migrating to tumblr. Let people enjoy things.

Don’t main tag a critical/negative post. If your crit post is about “Thing”, you add the “Thing critical” tag, but not the “Thing” tag. People block crit tags if they don’t want to see it, don’t shove it in their faces by main tagging it. 

If you don’t want to see something, just block it. Another reason why people are able to survive on tumblr. You don’t start discourse, you don’t make call-outs, you block. You can find something for every community you can think of if you go looking for it. The worst of the worst probably won’t ever appear on your dash, but if you’re worried or feel the need for it, you know where the block button is.

Feel free to shitpost or ramble. More often than not you’ll see people rb a post with a comment, and their elaboration will be in the tags. The tags are only visible on your profile and the notifications of the owner of the og blog. Just a thing people do.

Reblog artists’ posts with nice comments in the tags! Commenting on a drawing is usually done through the tags (Not an obligation, again, just a thing people do. Feel free to add your comment on the rb itself if you’d want other people to see it tho!) and leave nice messages for the artists! It’s a win-win for everyone involved. 

If you have more than a single follower, always use the common tw warning tags. You don’t need to tw everything, but tw’ing some common things is the bare minimum human decency. Keep it safe for others. 

Tag a post “long post” if it’s really long. Pretty self explanatory. Don’t make people scroll through all that please lol. 

You can use them to organize your blog. This is more of a pro tip, if you’d like to not miss a post in your blog, cause they will start pilin’ up soon enough.

#Liveblogging is pretty fun. If you’d like to talk to people during streams, don’t forget to add the relevant tags still! Again, you won’t show up on people’s dash otherwise.

Part XXVI: Giving Grief

Author’s Notes: This is the first chapter I’ve posted in months (literally since April). I don’t know if this is a full comeback. I have a few chapters in the drafts that need to be edited and formatted for posting but after that, I still plan on continuing the series bc my plan was always have a long fic. With no new content after part II of the game was released, my interest in the fandom waned but was always there. Now with HBO creating a show based off the game, as well as me being apart of the Pedro Pascal fandom, I think I will soon become more consistent in posting as new content gets released. I will say that at least half of what appeals to me for Joel is Troy Baker’s voice and while I love Pedro’s voice too, I know it won’t be the same. I still think Pedro will do the voice justice bc he can do a damn fine country accent as seen in the movie Prospect on Netflix. If you’re a fan of his and have Netflix, please go watch it!

Joel waited for you to come home. He paced back and forth in the kitchen switching from holding the card and setting it down on the counter. He was eager to talk to you about this new revelation partly because he was nervous to have the other conversation with you. After a while of calming his nerves down, you still hadn’t come home. The sun had set an hour ago and Joel was ready to throw on his boots and go looking for you. 

Just as he laced them up, the front door opened. You walked in and immediately stopped because his body blocked you from walking in the house further. 

“Going somewhere?” You asked as you slid past him. He was a grown man and could do what he wanted, but the thought of him leaving to go do other things before the issue between you was resolved upset you. 

He reached back down to unlace his boots. “Not anymore. I was ‘bout to head out and find you.”

“Why?” You asked dryly.

“I’d been waiting on you to come home for a couple of hours. We gotta talk.”

“You’re right, we do. I was helping Wendy walk the kids home from the daycare; that’s what held me up. I’m here now, though.” You leaned against the back of the couch and crossed your arms. The stance you took reminded you of what Joel would do.

He walked into the kitchen and came back. “Kiddo made this for us.”

You took it in your hands. “When did she have time to make this?” He shrugged. Your fingers brushed across the drawing of the hat before finally opening it. “Oh my God.” She looked at you for a split second before looking back down at her signature. “Her name has been ‘Ellie’ the whole time.”

“I know.” He commented. 

“She never said anything. All of us have asked her.”

“Technically, she still hasn’t spoken her name, but I guess she wasn’t ready for that.”

“She wasn’t ready to let anybody in.” You said. He nodded in agreement.

“Until now.” He walked up to you and pointed to her name on the card. “She’s doing so good, this Ellie. I can only try to imagine the horrors that she’s seen out in the world before she came to Jackson, but whatever happened out there, it led her to us. I’m...It’s just nice to see her opening up to this place.”

You understood what he was trying to say. “Yeah, I’m proud of her too.” You walked past him and into the kitchen to hang the card on the refrigerator. Joel followed. This time, his arms were crossed.

“(Y/N), I meant it when I said I was sorry back there. I shouldn’t have said what I did.”

“If you didn’t mean it, you wouldn’t have said it.” You rebutted.

“I was upset with you because I expected you to react the same as me when Ellie climbed up that T-Rex, but I don’t want a carbon copy of myself. I love you and want to have a family with you because you are wise beyond your years, confident even if you don’t always think so, responsible even for things that aren’t your responsibility and most importantly, you’re level headedness. Where I have a tendency to lose my cool in certain situations, you are guided by this calm...patient sense of will that I envy.” He took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, giving you the opportunity to say something. Seeing that you were still soaking in his words, he continued. “You’ll be a great mother. I saw it in the gentle way you juggled all those kids at the daycare. I saw it in the way you took care of Ellie the first day she came here. You’ll see though, if it’s meant for us to have a baby, how difficult it is to stop worrying. It didn’t stop when Sarah....even when I tried to push those feelings away. It doesn’t stop. I know she’s not her, but it’s hard for me to just stand by and watch her do something that could hurt her.”

“I wasn’t standing by, or at least that wasn’t my intention. I wanted to give her space. She’s so delicate, or maybe that’s my problem. I shouldn’t treat her like she’s some glass figurine. I just wanted her to grow comfortable with us by trusting her. Believe me, it wasn’t easy for me to do when there was nothing personally for me to go off of, but then I thought, she’s lived out there for God knows how long by herself. She’s not only seen things but has been able to survive things. It’s hard to see how clever someone is when they won’t let you in, but I knew she had to be to have made it this far. I get it though. I’ve never been a parent. I can only sympathize with your worries. I can not empathize with you until I’ve been where you have. I’m sorry too. I could have found a way to give her space without allowing her to be in such a dangerous spot. You must be disappointed in me.”

He moved up to you and placed his hands on your shoulder. “I’m not. Look at me. I’m not disappointed in you. She was both of our responsibilities earlier.” He brought you into a tight hug. “You’re right, she is smart. She felt comfortable enough to show a side of herself that no one else has seen. You know why? ‘Cause she felt safe around us. Despite the grief she put me through, it was nice to see her so happy.”

“I know it was, wasn’t it? I can’t believe she jumped though! I didn’t think she’d go that far.”

“At the end of the day, kids will be kids. It’s not an excuse to slack off on raising ‘em, but there's just a certain wild and carefree nature that every kid has. It’s instilled in their DNA or somethin’ and then it fades away as they get older, about the time their back starts to ache.” Joel chuckled as he explained. He kissed the top of your head before pulling away to get a good look at you. He made a face as if to ask if you were ok. You nodded. He took your hand and pulled you into the living room. You sat down next to him. “She reminds me of Sarah sometimes. Ellie’s about the same age as her. She ran me through the ringer, raising that one.” He chuckled at the memories. “I wouldn’t trade it in for the world, being her dad, but you shoulda seen the amount of grief she put me through. Especially being a single parent.” He wiped his hand across his face, letting it linger along the length of his neck. “One time, she snuck off to some skate park when I told her no. She was in this skateboarding phase. I bought her a customized skateboard for her birthday and she would practice using it up and down the driveway. She had barely learned that little flippy trick when she asked me to take her to the skate park. I told her no because it looked like it was for experienced skaters. “After the cast came off, she switched interests to soccer. I installed a shelf on one of her walls to hang the skateboard on. Better that than being stuffed under her bed. Soccer was her life though. She made new friends from the team, won titles, learned tricks with the ball. Me and Tommy were regulars at her games. I was...am proud of her.”

You smiled as you envisioned his memories. “Did she give you grief with that as well?”

He nodded in an exaggerated way. “Oh yeah, but I’m sure I used to give her grief too.” You lifted your eyebrows with desire for him to elaborate. “I may or may not have argued with the coach and ref on a few occasions regarding plays.”

“You never dated any of the soccer moms?” You teased.

He scoffed. “Most of them were married and the ones who weren’t, I sent Tommy’s way instead. He wasn’t mad at it.” The two of you chuckled. “I did flirt with a few, married or not, so I could get my hands on some of their homemade baked goods.”

“I was under the assumption that soccer moms made food for everyone.”

“They did, but I still wanted a few more cupcakes for the ride home.” He admitted as you laughed. “Listen, I had a busy life. I didn’t have much time to hone my baking skills, so it was nice to be able to have homemade cakes and cookies for a change.

“Well, if you wanted cookies, that’s all you had to say! I can show you how to bake right now.”

“It’s late.” He reasoned.

“It’s never too late to feed your sweet tooth.” You rebutted as you pulled him back into the kitchen.

I saw a post recently and it was about that time when everyone went to Hewn City and Rhys made that agreement with Eris but before that Cassian and Az drew sticks to see who would stay in Velaris and protect it and protect Elain. Gwynriels are arguing that Az didn't want to stay with Elain back then and didn't ask to stay behind. They are using it as proof that he isn't interested in her. What are your thoughts? Why do you think he didn't want to stay with her?

(What's next, since Azriel didn't attempt to mount Elain on the dinner table during their first meeting at her estate is that also proof of his lack of interest?)

There is a different between 'didn't want' and 'didn't ask' to stay behind.

We don't know what he 'wanted'. He might have very well wanted to stay, but it's a moot point, since his thoughts aren't available to us.

Now, I havent read the scene for a bit, but I remember it well enough.

Azriel was caught by Eris, doing some recon work in Autumn Court. In exchange for his release, Eris demanded a meeting with Rhys and the formation of Rhys/NC/Eris alliance against Beron.

Azriel, is the only person who is aware of what is about to go down. Rhys did not share his plans with ANYONE except for Az. Not Feyre, not Cassian, not even Amren, his Second.

Now, at that point, Azriel knows Elain for, I don't know, let's say a month, maybe two. She is not in any particular danger in Velaris. Cassian is guarding her. There is no need for Azriel to request to stay instead, while he knows what's about to go down.

It's important to remember that he is in service of the NC, and of Rhys. He also has Rhys's confidence. Despite his personal feelings, which perhaps are only now developing towards Elain, his duty lies with the NC. He also has a duty to Mor, his friend/family of 500 years, because he knows how all of this will affect her. (And he is correct in his assumptions). He serves are the backbone and support for Rhys, knowing how difficult all of these decisions will be weighing on him, and how much wrath, from everyone, will be directed at his brother and HL.

I would go so far as to venture to say that the stick drawing might have been somewhat predetermined, in favour of Az. Rhys needed Az there, needed his rationality and support. Az went knowing that his relationship with Mor would be negatively impacted, but again, the priority is the war, securing the Darkbringers, and alliance with Eris. NOT his personal likes for certain girls.

Cassian would've been wrong in that situation. He is passionate and hotheaded. He has a personal relationship with Mor, sexual and a friendship, and he probably would've jumped to defend her and the last thing Rhys needed was a brawl between IC members in front of Eris and Kier.

I think it would be prudent to remember that these people dont always think only with their cocks and sometimes, actually make decisions that don't involve their personal desires. Beside romance, these books are also about politics and greater themes of power, loyalty, sacrifice, etc. So nothing in this episode is contrary to Azriel's general behavior, and obviously the scene is NOT about him and Elain, but about the lengths that Rhys would go to get what he wants, and the beginning of the Eris/Rhys alliance.

Victor’s Aura- A Character Aura Study

This post is my take on Victor’s aura, taken from my knowledge and intuition to depict what kind of aura he has! I did one on Gavin, as well as Gavin’s astrological birth chart so if you haven’t seen them, you can read them after this post!

What is an Aura? “Aura” by the dictionary is “the distinctive atmosphere or quality that seems to surround and be generated by a person, thing, or place”. 

It’s essentially the electromagnetic energy field that surrounds all living things. It’s the magnetic field of vibration like how a lighted candle is lit and how a scent or perfume surrounds a flower. In fact, it’s correctly described as an extension of the body. It’s a part of every cell. Your aura can be affected by anything, including traumas, memories and emotions. It can tell us a lot about a person’s mental, physical, emotional state, vitality and path of life. Habitual thoughts, emotions and even illnesses can be clearly revealed. If a person changes their long standing thoughts and emotions, the aura will too reflect that. 

Victor’s Aura There are many layers to the aura but let’s start off with the “ground” colour. This is the main colour that dominates the aura both in size and intensity. It’s arguably the most important colour as it shows what the person should be doing in their life. 

Victor’s main ground colour is dark yellow (keep in mind this is not defined as “murky”- when someone is lost and muddled in their life). People with dark yellow as their ground are confident, well adjusted and analytical. As a result, they take life one step at a time, one goal at a time, ensuring every project is seen through properly to completion to avoid problems and setbacks later. They are patient people, setting their worthwhile goals in no hurry to reach them, as they know without a doubt that they will obtain their deserved reward in the end. They prefer to do things rationally and in a logical manner, especially at work where they are required to make use of their good memory and love for detail. As they are ambitious and persistent, they often take up roles of leadership, responsibility and of importance. From his corrections on MC’s reports to the food he makes at Souvenir (that is insisted to be cooked according to certain temperatures), Victor is no doubt a detail-oriented leader even whether if the goal he wants to achieve is related to work or not. 

MC: It’s a sort of mark that can be left in literature or in a photograph… and I can feel it. Victor’s eyes are lowered. In his clear and tranquil eyes, there are ripples of light and shadows. Victor: Such as? The smile tugging at the corner of his mouth is clear, and I ponder this seriously. MC: For example, the way I write proposals has changed. The format of my proposals has changed. The indent of the first line, font size 15, 1.5 spacing between lines… it’s the format you find most pleasing to the eye! Victor’s eyebrow quirks. Victor: That’s all? MC: There’s more! I’ve become so much more picky with food. I never used to complain that food tastes bad, but eating at Souvenir has cultivated my palate. Now, when I eat even Michelin meals, I feel as if something’s lacking… -CN Exhibition Date 

“What happened with SE is just an example. We’re from different businesses and different fields. There’s no need to compare yourself with me. Also, I’m older than you. When you’ve reached my age, you might attain the achievements I have today.” -CN Night Meeting Date

“Slow and steady wins the race” is the moral that they live by, but sometimes adhering to this credo may frustrate others as they can be so analytical and detail oriented at times- usually at great lengths. A cute little add from the Tender Regards Date around the concept of snail mail, time (Victor’s evol!) and the goal of always reaching your destination in the end demonstrate this this motif in Victor’s relationship with MC.

“Looks like you should have received this Future Mail. Apart from supporting your event, I’m only going to do this once. This will not be repeated. The things I want to say to you are all in this videotape. It only belongs to you.” -CN Tender Regards Date 

“When will you finally understand? It’s all right. I’m patient. I’ll wait for you to see the light slowly.” -Rooftop Date

Although they have feelings, they only ever reveal it to people close to them. They enjoy the detail and technicality of conversations and find it hard to talk about their emotions. Victor’s Exhibition and Tender Regards Date are very useful sources of information in relation to these topics, as it displays Victor’s deep emotions of affection to MC and highlights the importance of expressing emotions to those you love. Dark yellow aura peoples’ greatest lesson in life is to be more emotionally open, and when do they do, it usually occurs later in life. 

“The writer wrote it down herself - “The time I spent loving someone, not a single second of it was wasted.” I rarely hear such words leave Victor’s mouth, and it makes me feel a little surreal. In my memory, we very rarely talk about the topic of ‘love’. Maybe it’s because he rarely says what’s in his heart. Maybe it’s because I’m used to being thick-skinned. We never have the opportunity to seriously understand the meaning in these words. -CN Exhibition Date 

“Do you still remember the special episode on “Feelings” from before? Actually, this theme was inspired by that episode. Giving gifts is a common way to express how one feels. But it’s not that easy to send a gift to the future. With Future Mail, the sender can convey their feelings and surprises in this gift to the other party across time.” -CN Tender Regards date 

People with dark yellow as their ground enjoy system and order such as routines at work and in their home life. This is applied to Victor’s strict schedules in his day to day life, such as taking on what time he sleeps and when he gets up to go on his morning jogs. They need to consider new ideas before grudgingly accepting them. This is especially applied to when Victor always says “just this once” to MC when he’s being “childish” with her (but we really know that isn’t the case, he knows this all too well, too). 

“Because a certain greedy cat always says she wants to eat something sweet after dinner, I made pudding before leaving the house. Do you think this is a mark of how I’ve been changed?” -CN Exhibition Date 

Next is Victor’s “radiating” colour. This represents his interests and motivations. It adds strength to the ground colour. They can work well in harmony, some can conflict. 

I would take Victor’s radiating as violet. Violet is a very highly spiritual colour, as people with this colour as their radiating will have a very spiritual take on life, as they are deep thinkers who like to analyse everything and think matters though logically. They are also naturally intuitive. Violet radiatings have the ability to come up with unique and unusual solutions to problems. As they enjoy learning, they have the potential to become experts in their field of endeavour- which is no surprise for Victor as he’s basically an “on top of the world tyrant” in the industry of finances. In addition, they feel things deeply, but rather operate things on an emotionally free level- again with the ground aura traits to enhance this! However, Victor too, has a high EQ despite this.

“I’m no different from you. There are many things I cannot do or force to make happen. It’s okay to not be strong, it’s okay to not do well. You don’t have to bottle up your emotions.” … “I won’t tell you to keep holding on no matter what difficulties you face. That isn’t realistic. There will come a time when you will become an even better version of yourself who will have enough courage and experience to deal with all of this.” -CN Colours of Rain Date 

Overall, Victor’s aura of darker yellow and violet depict him as more of a straightforward kind of person, hardworking and articulate, however soon we realise there’s more to what we see of Victor, like how MC thinks that Victor comes off as a “heartless CEO” throughout the main story chapters but he slowly warms up to her whilst determining to prove her wrong. Victor is wise, and doesn’t bother to put in his personal efforts to where it’s not needed, but when it’s up to him- he strives to go all the way for perfection and with the best of his ability. He spends a lot of time in deep contemplation to determine his plans of attack which allows him to execute them well. His values and worth ethics will always in the end allow him to make time for MC, no matter how busy he is :) 

And lastly…

Victor leans against the window, his face still written with distaste, but he does not attempt to remove that childish-looking blanket. He brings the red cup to his lips and gently blows on it. The warm light encases him, softening the aura surrounding him. His outline also appears gentler. He doesn’t look as impossible to get close to. My eyes land on Victor, but he doesn’t seem to notice. He puts down the cup in his hands, lowering his eyes, as though deep in thought. This is a Victor I have never seen before… In this moment, he seems to have put down his stubbornness and distant aura - becoming someone within reach. Only now does Victor finally feel my gaze. He raises his head to look at me. -CN Warm Date 

All of a sudden, he lifts his other hand gently. A water droplet pelts onto his palm, as though pulling him into the pattering rain. Seeing this, I find myself subconsciously frozen in place. Because of the enshrouding misty rain, the Victor before me appears warmer and more tender than usual. -CN Tender Regards Date 

It always has and always will be MC to see this side of him- the tenderness and the willingness of how he opens up to her- his aura willingly to embrace hers too. Fun fact- auras can deflect off one another if you’re with someone you dislike. But when it’s with two people in love, their auras connect, combine and produce an even brighter and bigger accommodating aura for the both of them. He’s certainly living working towards to achieve his greatest life goals- both in his businesses and being with MC, striving together to make great changes and milestones in their respective industries. Without a doubt, she has helped Victor’s aura grow, expand and shine the many rays through his doubts, allowing a light from within to burn brighter and evolve him into more of the brilliant, hardworking and tender man we know today.
