Could I get an Hc for how the M6 would react to an Mc that finds out they used to eat a lot of weird creatures and monsters.

I may be obsessed with delicious in dungeon, but like maybe Mc got to try dragon meat and realized that despite it being an 'exotic' food, it tastes familiar. Only gets more surprised. The more weirder foods they end up trying that rnd up tasting familiar.

Who knows what medicinal properties these creatures might contain that have gone previously ignored? You could find some miraculous cure or random medicine if you keep snacking your way through the monstrous ecosystem!

Then again, he'd be lying if he said that practice was just as easy as theory. He's pretty well traveled himself, but some of the things you seem so eager to dig into are just ... so ... off-putting

He'll push through with most things but he will draw the line at anything resembling a plague beetle. He was force-fed one of those once and he never wants to experience that again

(he'd never try to keep you from making your own decisions, but to say that watching you eat things resembling plague beetles doesn't turn his stomach and make him anxious would be a lie)

Still one of the best researchers you could have helping you

He's got the background to understand physical nutrients and the importance of a diverse diet - and he's plenty dedicated to you

They are even more enthusiastic than you are

Sometimes you wish you knew what his limits were, because if things keep going at the rate that they are you might find out that he doesn't even have any

Faust is not helping either - she can and will help distract you if you've finally come across something you're hesitant to try so Asra can sneak a mouthful without being caught

On the plus side, they've tried so many different cuisines already that they have plenty of ideas when it comes to figuring out how to cook something new - and spice combinations you wouldn't dare dream of on your own

He also happens to have plenty of tried-and-true remedies for food poisoning as well (wonder why he learned all of those ...) and is more than happy to share with you if things go south

Absurdly creative with the whole cooking process in general

Keeps trying to incorporate magic. This does occasionally backfire when the beast being cooked is also magical by nature, and the two don't mix as intended

However, once you do find a creature that can be reliably cooked as part of a nutritious diet, she is all ears

Do you know what the state of Vesuvia is right now? Any new food source is a welcome food source, especially if it's a resource that isn't being tapped into otherwise. Tell her more about its properties

Will work with you and other nutritionists, chefs, and civil engineers to find a way to introduce it to the populace so they can take advantage of it

Who knows? Maybe if it's popular enough, it can be purposefully cultivated and turned into a major food export ...

For starters, he spent his teens living with Asra. In the woods. Who do you think came up with all those natural remedies for food poisoning??? Not the kid picking every mushroom they saw!

Second of all, he lives off of the land himself. The reason his grocery list is so short is because he's learned to find most of his sustenance in the woods around him. You're just doing the same

Third of all (and most importantly) - if it's food, it's food. It's that simple

Will eat anything you hand him as soon as he knows it won't poison him, no hesitation in sight and no further questions asked

His only concern about the whole thing is sustainability. He knows firsthand what happens when something throws the delicate balance of an ecosystem out of whack and he wants to make sure that doesn't happen on accident because you're new to it

Never really stops to appreciate any of the good flavors at first, but eventually develops a palette for the different spices

Insanely good at assessing what kind of nutrients it'll have

Okay, okay, so he'll admit it - he does get squeamish (just a little bit) at the thought of eating the monsters that tried to kill him earlier and he's not particularly fond of revisiting the "eat or be eaten" mentality that was instilled in him as a small child

And he very much enjoys all the hunting (and bounties!) involved

You're telling him that he gets to chase down a rare beast, enjoy the thrill of conquering it and the bragging rights that entails, get paid for disposing of it, and then get a free meal after he forgets about it for a couple hours? Sign him up!

Just, uh. Just don't remind him what exactly he's eating if it's from one of the grosser monsters. Devouring a deadly ancient boar? Awesome! Devouring a worm monster? ... yeah, don't ruin it

Has no issues with putting more resources into what you're trying to do. It means free food, bragging rights about killing and eating monsters, and dinner not getting dull and boring

Will not-so-subtly feed anything he doesn't like to Mercedes and Melchior when he thinks you can't see him

So I've been really into your analysis lately and I'm a huge fan now, wanted to ask some questions, feel free to not answer any

1- what was your favourite idv story/event to analyze?

2- your least fav of the latter?

3- are you into anything else besides idv?

I'm very happy to hear you're enjoying yourself despite my own low opinion about much of what I put out. I'll do my best to answer!

Hmm I always dislike picking favorites because I'm bad at picking eheh... But the ones I liked most... I honestly enjoy T&I and COA (1-5) even more than the main story. So I think I might pick... Atropos' Ropes for T&I and for COA, thats harder... 3-5 are my faves but I might pick 4 just because of how it felt it had the most story/details given than all the rest. Even the *SONG* had story. I loved it.

Least fave, eh... Orfeo and Zinaida immediately come to mind, though Orfeo I'd say was worse... COA 1 is another primarily because of how DIFFICULT it was for me to figure it out enough to put together an analysis. And I had to rewrite that thing at LEAST 3 times to the point I'm just hoping it's good enough and leaving it alone. Time of Reunion I think is another that comes to mind, mainly because I didn't appreciate how they treated Norton in there, especially in the videos (but at least those aren't canon like the in-game event was). So based on all that, I might say Orfeo if I really had to pick 1. Then rank ToR 2nd and Zinaida/COA1 3rd.

FF14 and Honkai Star Rail especially I'm playing actively these days, but I honestly like a lot of stuff. Like Persona (espeially 4), 999 aka Zero Escape, and Star Ocean Til the End of Time. Least in terms of games.

Hmm... Maybe because the 1st reason I play a game is because of the story, and gameplay is always 2nd to me. If the story and characters are good, that gets me interested. Issue with IDV is we only get bits and pieces. Really need to look deeper to really understand some of the characters. I actually only started analyzing because I challenged myself (partially out of curiosity for the answer) to see if I could prove if Norton wasn't as evil as people thought (based on all the comments I saw when I 1st joined the fandom a long while ago). From there, there was Jose who I wanted to analyze because he honestly had so many plot holes I couldn't (and still can't completely) solve. So I get the most enjoyment analyzing something that doesn't have a clear answer. Which is why I don't always post for every letter. A big part of it is I enjoy history and culture and such, so it's fun for me to learn about different foods, or time periods, or how bad the environment was for miners or sailors back in the day, etc... I dont think I have an easy answer (I can see I'm rambling). Norton I actually only began to like because I was spending so long working on my 1st analysis for him (and my perfectionism made me analyze all of Norton's essences before i could call it finished). Jose was because I love Captain Hook, and then after because of the plot holes that bothered me. Then for others, I think I enjoy making analyses to... try to sometimes change people's opinoions/beliefs. Like with Margaretha or Vera. With Edgar was because I was more interested in his story and him as a character only once I put together all his lore. Sort of goes on from there. I could ramble on but I'm going to get even more guilty. I hope this helps somewhat, but let me know if it doesn't and I'll keep going. Maybe the simple is A) I like history/culture/research, B) I like to convince people that certain characters arent as evil as they think or change beliefs I think aren't quite accurate, C) I like solving puzzles and I love story, D) I already think too hard about literally everything, and combined with my perfectionism, we get analysis

tma/tmagp spoilers below!!

im very hesitant to make any theories about the type of powers at work in the tmagp universe, i dont think theyre the exact same set we had in tma, but i do think the old fears exist in some capacity in this dimension, but likely as different factions, all swirled together, one huge conglomerate, or a secret fourth thing (mixing with whatever entities originally existed in this universe). but after the recent few tmagp episodes im starting to think the old fears (and their divisions) are still playing a role in how the powers are manifesting.

ink5oul is largely an eye-coded avatar to me. they seem to be following a similar path to tma avatars (ink5oul has their own agenda and is researching old tattoo artists and likely has a connection to alchemy in some respect). as an influencer, they feed from the fear of people watching their content and the person whos being tattooed. their victims that we know about have also been somewhat eye-adjacent. in episode 2, they feed off of a woman who suffers from extreme body dysmorphia and is hyper-aware of how others perceive her. she refuses to turn on her camera for therapy, constantly compares her own appearance to others, and insists her therapist perceive her as sane. madam e is similar in that the perceptions of others physically harms her. she says that the hate comments and online drama were cutting her, saying she could feel it when people viewed her content. her body deteriorated because she was famous, because she made a call out video, because she just wanted to be known. these are both incredibly eye-aligned incidents, though they do have aspects of other powers.

other incidents have struck me as overwhelmingly similar to fears we knew from tma, episodes 15 and 14 were heavy handed with their tma fear alignments. lady mowbray is the head of a hunting party who instructed a man to chase after his coworkers and kill them to prove himself as worthy prey, exploring a twist on themes of pack hunting we saw in tma. in episode 14 we get a man whos been puppeted by snakes, operating a disgusting shop infested with pests and littered with rotting food- obviously adjacent to the corruption. just like with ink5oul's victims, these cases also had elements that related to other fears, but ultimately i think they highlight a specific type of fear within each incident. even tma statements had cases that overlapped- confession/desecrated host, monster pig, lost johns cave, murder club. i do think that the tma fears still exist in the tmagp universe, and im actually coming to believe theyre operating similar to in their "original" (who knows) universe, but with some extra variables to scrabble things around.

im still super vague on what i think is affecting the fears, and i doubt ill subscribe to a true concrete theory before we get a reveal, but i do have some loose connections across the tmagp episodes so far. alchemy has been an obvious aspect of whatever is making tmagp's fears a different flavor to tma's fears. the logo for the series is of the trinity expressing the mind, body, and soul- together creating the philosopher's stone, a key to immortality. im being careful to not draw many connections to tma since i believe this to be largely an independent storyline, but this draws some obvious similarities to jonah's pursuits of immortality, ruling the world, and combining the fears to create one all-powerful entity. or, as lena said, creating balance. im unsure of how this is playing out so far- i think whatever big bad (if there is one) that wants to disrupt or bring about this balance is either not known to us yet or has yet to fulfill their arc into a big bad (this could be a corruption arc for someone like sam or gwen, or a reveal of big bads lurking in the background like jmj). but whatever the details of that are, im confident that achieving a balance and connection of the alchemic trinity is a key aspect of how the fears are being expressed in this universe. i mean, there were never really 14 fears, but they still manifested that way because they were partially constructed by human minds. if this universe comprehends them through the lens of alchemy, seeing them as manifestations of the mind, the body, and the soul, then they'll likely conform to that in some way.

another thread i think might be relevant is the amount of gore and personal harm in just about every incident so far. in almost every case we've seen theres been some instance of pain, loss, and intentional harm. this is especially connected to getting a response or reward (being fed) from the encounter. needles needs to cause fear, and he accomplishes that through physically harming someone. the murder violin and the fedora guy dice are both fed by the suffering of others. ink5oul made one girl tear into her own face, and made another self inflict her own heart problems. lady mowbray is a devout cannibal. i dont feel the need to get into mr bonzos messy history. for every avatar/external/feeder of these powers, they inflict a physical mark or pain upon the people theyre feeding from. this draws a much more physical horror than the more psychological fears we dealt with in tma. im not entirely sure what this means in terms of its connections with alchemy and the fears, im not sure if its a real dot to connect or not, but its some food for thought!

You knew having Luci meant that there were going to be changes—that probably seems fairly obvious. Yet it feels different to think about it, to consider scenarios, than actually living them out.

Both you and Austin thought about having a baby for what felt like such a long time, planning it out, doing your research, preparing in all the ways for expectations that would probably be a million times different than you thought. And that, you realize, has been the truest part. No amount of planning, learning, or anticipating wins out over experience. It’s good to have these thoughts and considerations on the backburner, but that’s all they are. Living with Luci, watching her grow up, has changed so many various parts of you and Austin that you practically feel like you’ve got different DNA. But to be clear, that’s not something you’d trade for the world.

You know how lucky you are, even when you hit bumps in the road you never saw coming.

This feels like one of them no matter how many times you’ve discussed it with your husband, attempting to plan ahead.

When Luci was born, it was a shared strategy that both you and Austin would take some time off from acting and everything that came with it to build your little family. Not completely stepping away but acclimating, figuring out how to operate with a new normal, seeing what the other needed in order to feel stable. It didn’t take too long, you both had plans for returning to work—Austin, picking up a film his agent had been filling him in on for a little over a year and for you, maybe writing another script. Possibilities were really endless, especially since neither of you were willing to trade one passion for another. You both believed that you could have successful careers and be great parents.

And it’s worked out for the most part, there have been no regrets. Luci is a bit older, two years old, and blossoming in the world around her as she figures out how everything connects. She’s been less self-aware when Austin has had work trips in the past and you feel like you’re on pins and needles as he packs his suitcase because…

It’s been difficult for you when Austin is gone, how much you miss him, how you count down the days until he’s home, and you’re a grown adult that understands the entire process. Luci? Who is definitely a daddy’s girl and so accustomed to having Austin at home? Is not going to understand why he has to leave and be away for so long, no matter how many different ways you try to explain it.

Ugh. You hate this.

You lean back against the headboard and smile a little as Luci wobbles around on the ground, running back and forth between the closet and Austin’s suitcase as she tries to help him pack. They’ve told her he’s going for a work trip, just two weeks for a table reading—it’ll be much longer next time, but you don’t think it’s really sunk in yet. She doesn’t get it…you don’t think she will until she sees Austin walk out the door.

Later that evening, in bed, you face Austin in that familiar darkness. He’s got his arm wrapped around your waist, keeping you close, legs laced together. You almost want to memorize how his body feels against your own, the scent of his skin mixed with cologne, the warmth of his breath as he presses kisses to your jawline and neck.

Only two weeks and yet it feels ten times longer already.

“I think Luci put sixteen pairs of mismatched socks into your suitcase.”

Austin smirks softly, “Yeah, think I saw her fold her stuffed dino in there too for safe keeping. Gonna have to take that out before I leave tomorrow.”

You rest your hand on his chest, playing with the fabric of his t-shirt between your fingers. There’s traffic driving by outside, tires on slick streets, thunder rumbling in the distance.

“I think it’s a good idea that we’re gonna do the first big goodbye here and not the airport,” You shake your head, thinking as you speak, “She’s gonna be crushed and that’s definitely going to lead to crying.” Possibly a tantrum.

You can feel Austin wince rather than see him do it, “Hate seein’ either of you upset.”

A small smile tugs the corner of your mouth, “I know, I’ll just keep having to do all of her favorite things to make her forget about you,” You start, your tone teasing, “You know—chocolate chip pancakes, cupcakes baked all the time—”

“Why you gotta start baking cupcakes after I leave?” He tries to interrupt.

“Blanket forts in the living room, copious trips to the park, even when it’s raining—”

“I’d be careful to distract her with that,” Austin laughs, “Knowin’ her, she’ll love it and then you’ll be goin’ while it’s raining all the time.”

“—sleepovers with Aunt Jillian, the works.” You grin, “Maybe I’ll even become the favorite parent while you’re gone.”

“Stop,” Austin huffs out an amused sound, rolling his body quickly to hover over top of yours. You can just barely make out the outlines of some parts of his face in the dark—the curve of his lips, the lines of his jaw and cheekbones. You reach a hand up and cup his cheek, running your thumb along the bone.

“You know she adores you.”

You hum, dipping your hand a bit to run your thumb along his lower lip, “Not as much as she adores you.” And…while it’s taken you a while to kinda get used to that, you can’t really blame her for how much she loves Austin. Definitely relatable. Besides, it’s totally normal for her to choose favorites, she’s learning boundaries and really figuring out each parent separate from the other.

Sometimes on bad days it stings for sure but on good days you know how much Luci loves you and that’s more than enough. A warm sound leaves your lips as Austin leans down to kiss you, nuzzling your noses before resting his body along yours, your legs opening a bit to accommodate him. It’s got nothing to do with sex but intimacy, the feeling of your bodies connecting, heated comfort.

“You gonna miss me?” He asks against your lips.

“Hmm—” You pretend to think about it, crinkling your nose even though he can’t see it. “I dunno.”

He laughs a little, his one hand moving to tickle your side where he knows you’re sensitive, right along your ribs. You squirm instantly, attempting to move but the weight of his body makes it difficult.

“Austin!”

“So you’re not gonna miss me?”

You laugh and force his hand away, tugging him down into a kiss instead.

Miss him? More than you can possibly put into words.

You kinda take several breaths in once Austin puts his suitcase by the front door. There’s still a small amount of running around this morning—breakfast being made, showers taken, dressing Luci to go to the park, packing a small snack bag for her of fruit and goldfish, juice boxes…and then it starts. Luci goes to put a particular snack in for Austin, because he loves these little yogurt granola bites and you gently take her hand and squeeze it.

“Daddy’s not coming to the park with us today, remember? He’s gotta go to work.”

“Go to work,” She repeats and her eyebrows draw together, “But later?”

Austin comes into the kitchen to put his coffee mug in the sink, turning a little to look at both of you once he overhears the conversation. He chews on the inside of his cheek, his eyes fluttering to yours as he moves towards his daughter,

“I gotta go to work for a while, bug. Remember you helped pack my suitcase last night? For the airplane?” He gently tugs one of her space buns that you put into her hair this morning, waiting for her to connect the dots.

“Bye-byes?” She asks and you can hear the strain in her voice.

Austin swallows before nodding and you can see the same emotion in the blue of his eyes, that not wanting to leave her—either of you. “Just for a little while. You and mama are gonna have so much fun when I’m gone though, okay? The park and maybe the aquarium—blanket forts, cookies.”

But Luci hears none of that, all she hears is part of her world crumbling as Austin confirms he’s going ‘bye-byes’. It’s like a slow drip, it starts with her eyes widening and her lower lip wobbling and then she kinda just bursts like a dam. You’d find it startling, and yet, you’re the same way. When something overwhelms you, you try and keep it together until you just can’t. Luci’s wait time is a lot shorter, she doesn’t understand how the world works yet or why Austin’s leaving so long for work, or why he can’t just come back sooner and go to the park with them.

“Hey,” Austin says gently and that one word springboards the wailing. Luci starts crying in earnest, big fat tears rolling down her cheeks, “Hey, hey,” He picks her up into his arms, attempting to soothe her the best he can by rubbing a hand down her back.

You feel a lump form in your throat, hate seeing either of them upset. Your hand gently moves to rest along Austin’s lower back, knowing that it must kill him to see Luci crying, especially since he’s the cause, regardless of how much it’s not his fault.

“It’s okay,” You murmur, brushing some of the strands sticking out of her buns back, pressing a kiss to her cheek.

“S’okay baby,” Austin whispers, gently bouncing her before closing his eyes a moment.

You press a kiss to his cheek too—this isn’t easy for either of you to witness, especially since neither of you really know what to do to soothe her. Not only is this difficult for her, as someone who doesn’t understand, both of you and Austin know the gravity of being away for work. Though it’s one thing to consider and think about it ahead of time, to try and plan make the best possible choices, it’s nothing in comparison to actually doing it. Which is what this is, seeing what happens when you decide to go through with something.

It'll get easier, with more practice and getting Luci into a routine, but that doesn’t make this one time any less difficult.

His phone pings and you know before he even looks at it that it’s his driver, ready to take him to the airport. Austin sighs, running a hand through the wide curls in the front part of his hair, “I gotta go.”

“I’ll take her,” You offer and he passes her over, having to untangle her small fists from his shirt.

You follow him to the door and Luci’s still crying, not as hard as before, but definitely still upset. She’s watching him these wide eyes and you hold onto one of her hands, pressing a kiss to it.

“I love you both so much,” Austin says as he pulls his coat on, moving to kiss you. He cups your cheek, running his thumb along your cheekbone.

“I love you too,” Humming lightly, you look over at Luci, “Wanna say bye? ‘I love you daddy’.” You try but she can’t get the words out. Probably best given how much she’s crying—if Austin had to hear that with tears wrapped around every syllable, he might not leave.

There’s comfort in the fact that it won’t be this way forever—not only will Luci eventually get distracted that her dad isn’t home, but also that in time this will become a part of her life. Maybe even when she gets older, she can travel with. But for now? Just a very bumpy spot in the road.

It takes Austin about another five minutes to leave, off and on running through his mental checklist to make sure he has everything but also pausing every so often to talk to Luci or press a kiss to her cheek. Finally, he plants one final one your cheek before heading out the door, closing it behind him.

It takes Luci ten minutes to calm down completely and by the time you set her back onto the floor, she decides she’s gonna be angry and pouty instead, which…valid. For some reason if there was any doubt that this is your daughter? Certainly wouldn’t be any more after that kind of behavior. The funny thing is, when Luci gets like this, she doesn’t throw tantrums. Instead, you and Austin have taught her to reply ‘no thank you’ to things and she adopts that phrase when she’s mad.

She’ll have this adorable grumpy pout on her face and just ‘no thank you’ to absolutely everything—doesn’t matter what you say to her.

Taking her to the park melts the ice a little, but she’s still confused when she comes home and Austin isn’t back. You remind her he’s at work, and she seems to accept that, but after a few days pass she doesn’t understand why he’s not walking through the front door. Her routines keep her distracted but you kinda get the same question often: ‘dad coming home now?’

Facetime and phone calls definitely help but it’s never going to substitute for the real thing—you know that better than anyone.

Getting the tub ready for a bath, you sit on the closed toilet seat and move your phone from one ear to another, testing the water with the inside of your wrist to make sure it’s not too hot.

“And it’s been going well for you?”

“Yeah,” Austin replies and he sounds tired but all of his texts about the table reads have been good, so you know he’s excited about the project, “Gettin’ along with everyone, think that’s all you can ask for sometimes.”

“And your co-star?” You pick up a bottle of rose-scented bubble bath, spilling a bit into the water and watching the suds start.

“She’s new so she’s a bit nervous but her first read-through went well. Lookin’ forward to seein’ what else she’s got.”

You smile a little because that’s good—in your opinion that’d definitely be a buzzkill. How can you really develop a plot or your own character if you’re delt a bad hand with casting? Especially if it’s a coin toss of someone new but, how else are you gonna know someone has something to bring to the table unless you give them a chance?

“How’s Luc doin’?”

You run a hand through your hair, pulling a basket out from underneath the sink that has all of Luci’s bath toys in it so she can pick and choose what she’d like to play with.

“Good, less pouty,” She smirks, “Still asking about you and we’ve been sleeping in our bed so she can be on your pillow.” But all and all? Not too bad given how rough it was when Austin first left. You’ll take that progress.

“And you?”

You draw in a soft sigh, “Been writing a bit but it all sounds like crap.”

You can hear the soft smile in Austin’s voice as he speaks, “Don’t say that—you’ve been distracted, just let it sit with you a bit.”

You stick your tongue out a little, shifting to turn the water off in the tub. You know he’s right, despite wanting to just delete everything as soon as you’ve typed it. You’ve been busy and it definitely impacts your creative mind but you might be able to salvage something out of it if you save things as you go.

“Ten out of ten on the husband pep talks,” You tease and he lets out a soft laugh, “Let me call in the gremlin, she’s about to get a bath.” You pull the phone away from your ear, “Luci! C’mon, bath time! Daddy’s on the phone!”

You tap your phone on speaker, listening to the patter of feet running towards the bathroom. Luci runs straight in and throws herself onto your leg, a small oof leaving her lips. You chuckle, running your hand through her wild hair from a day of playing at the park.

“Say hi.”

“Hi daddy!” She sing-songs out, sitting down onto the floor and going through her bath basket.

“Hey lil dino,” Austin says in such a fond way that it makes you miss him even more than you already do. “Wanna tell me about your day?”

“She’s named some of them,” You tell Austin as you help Luci into the tub, “Though not as good as the names you’ve given to the pigeons outside our apartment.”

The conversation continues while Luci’s in the bath, mostly just you and Austin catching up, but when it’s time to hang up the call, your daughter kind of whispers her goodbye—this small bye daddy that clenches up inside your chest.

It reminds you to count down time and hold that promise close; there’s only two more full days until Austin comes home.

Austin is insisting that someone can pick him up from the airport so that you don’t have to, but at this point you’re bursting at the seams to see him that anyone else is just not gonna happen. You know he’s trying to do you a favor since you’re looking after Luci, but you can manage it. Carrying her through an entrance and lingering towards the appropriate baggage claim, you check your watch—Austin should have landed already, it’s a waiting game.

You have no idea why it feels like you’re about to see him for the first time, your stomach flipping in circles and your heart pounding in your chest. You keep a sharp eye, only setting Luci on the ground once you see him collect his bag from the assembly line and begin looking for you.

“Look,” You smile at Luci, kissing her cheek as you crouch down, “There’s daddy.”

Luci’s head turns quickly and she definitely squeals out a loud ‘daddy!’ that instantly gets Austin’s attention. When he sees her, that’s when you let her go, chuckling lightly as she takes off at a run to him. Austin drops his bag, leaning down to scoop her right into his arms as you walk towards him.

Luci squeezes him around his neck and he chuckles, his one hand rubbing up and down her back while pressing a kiss to her head, “Think you’ve gotten bigger.”

“Total possibility,” You laugh, “She’s growing like a weed.”

Austin looks over at you and smiles, something genuine and warm, an expression you’ve only ever seen given to you. He moves to wrap an arm around your shoulders, drawing you close and into his chest. You let out a soft sigh of relief as your face finds the crook of his neck, breathing him in, your one arm sliding up and underneath his coat to hold onto his body.

Home is definitely a person.

Waking up naturally the next morning, you reach your arm out across the sheets in search of Austin’s body…and come up empty. Frowning, you lift your head, squinting. But no, the bed is definitely bare next to you and the covers are cold. Letting out a soft huff, you pull yourself from bed, tugging on one of Austin’s sweatshirts and a pair of leggings. Wandering down the hall, you hear soft voices in the kitchen, the clattering of silverware and cupboard doors closing.

“Yeah, just like that.” Austin says. “Hold on,” He chuckles, “We need a layer of jelly.”

“More!” Luci exclaims, very insistent and when you come to lean against the kitchen doorway, a soft smile tugs the corners of your mouth.

Austin is at the kitchen table, hair still unkempt from being slept on…and yet he’s still so handsome it’s kind of unfair. Luci is standing on a chair, helping him at the counter make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. She’s got a butter knife in her hand and she’s spreading the peanut butter (very haphazardly) onto the bread.

But she’s so happy—Austin’s got this amused, proud smile on his face as he watches her, his eyes fluttering over towards you when he senses you’re there.

You smirk, “Breakfast?” You come over to the counter, leaning against it after Austin presses a kiss to your temple.

“Hope you like peanut butter.” Austin smirks because at this point it’s a peanut butter sandwich with some bread and jelly.

Chuckling, you reach out to swipe a bit of jelly off Luci’s cheek. Honestly, you can’t think of a better way to have it.

Groot’s many backstories

So earlier I saw this post by @alastorgould where he over some of the many versions of Rocket’s backstories, eventually writing his own take on it that combined elements of all of them. It’s a pretty good summary of Rocket’s past and it’s many incarnations in the comics, cartoons and MCU etc and I highly recommend you check it out along with his rocket and halfworld related art/fics.

Anyway, It inspired to make my own post going over some of the backstories/incarnations of my personal favourite gotg character: Groot. Because A) as mentioned, he’s my fave, and imo one of the more underrated Guardians members out of the core 5, and B) Groot actually has quite a few takes on his backstory already through not only multiple retcons in the 616 comics continuity but also through several multi-media adaptations of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. And I thought it would be fun to share some of them with you all.

Obviously, this isn’t gonna cover every single piece of media Groot has been in/has had his backstory mentioned etc. But I did my research and tried my best to cover a good chunk of the most notable continuities and adaptations.

Also, I haven’t read the entirety of every comic Groot is in ever (I.E. the latest gotg Grootfall/Grootrise story arc) so forgive me if I get a few details wrong. If there are any die hard gotg/Groot comic readers out there, feel free to politely and respectfully correct me on a few things.

The Comics

In the main marvel 616 comics there have been at least 3 different versions of Groot’s backstory and origins. 4 if you count his very first incarnation…

Tales to astonish #13 (+ other King Groot appearances)

King Groot is the giant tree like ruler of Planet-X, and an alien invader who lands on earth to kidnap the humans from a small town in order to take them back to his home planet and experiment on them. Conventional weapons used by the towns military don’t work as this groot is immune to fire and explosives. But thanks to the quick thinking of protagonist human scientist Leslie Evens, king groot is taken down by genetically bred super termites. He seemingly dies in this story but later makes appearances in comics like the Howling Commandos, aiding the team. Most commonly being seen as an inhabitant of Monster Isle. There was a time where it was thought the groot on the guardians of the galaxy was the same groot as king groot (mainly the annihilation: conquest series), but this was later retconned as a different Groot impersonating King Groot. Which brings us to…

Guardians of the Galaxy #14 (2013)/Annihilators #1 and 2 (2012)

Groot was a flora colossus sapling who along with his fellow saplings (also all called groot) were looked after by a group of elder flora colossus called the Arbor Masters. This groot was different from the others as he often brefirended the maintenance mammals; small intelligent mammal like beings who most other flora colossus looked down on as inferior. One day, another group of flora colossai were bulling a squirrel-like maintenance mammal and groot steps in to defend it. After one of the more violent flora colossus nearly kills the mammal, groot snaps and tears the other colossus apart. Presumably killing him. This catches the attention of the Arbor masters, who then have groot banished from the planet via a space ship.

This groot would later go on to impersonate king Groot and join the team that would become the Guardians of the galaxy, in Annihilation Conquest: Starlord #1, where he’d first meet his teammate and future bff Rocket Raccoon. The way he was written in annihilation conquest made it seem like he was the same character as King Groot, but this was later retconned in Annihilators #1 and 2 as well as Guardians of the Galaxy #14.

Groot vol.1 (2015)

My personal favourite comic origin for groot. (Also literally the best version of Groot in any media ever dont @ me)

Groot is born on Planet X, where the flora colossus are towering giants who regularly kidnap beings from other planets to preform experiments on them. Groot is disturbed and appalled by the actions of his people but feels powerless to do anything… until one night where he discovers a little human girl, Hannah, being held prisoner in one of the holding pods and decides to help her escape.

After teleporting Hannah away back to Earth, Groot remains behind and destroys the teleportation pad, presumably cutting the flora colossus off from earth, and he is banished by his elders. Groot then wanders the universe for a while, taking in all its wonders and sights, before being thrown in a kree prison where he meets Rocket for the first time. Rocket can’t understand Groot at first, but over the course of months sharing a cell with him, does. After this the two form a fast friendship and break out of prison, becoming bounty hunters/criminals and eventually joining the Guardians.

Groot vol.2 (2023)

One of the most recent and drastically different origins presented in the comics so far.

In this miniseries, Planet-X is a lush forest covered planet and the flora colossus, unlike the other comic origins, are a benevolent and peaceful race of sentient plants ruled over by a giant matriarch tree called Granopy. She looks after and tells stories to a child groot and his two friends Tweeg and Gleef.

One day their forest gets burnt by a gang of mercenaries known as The Spoilers, led by an evil Flora colossus named Agz, and the three get kidnapped. But are freed by a young Mar-vel. Together the four of them, along with an Alpha Centurion hunter called Yondar, fight against the Spoilers and save Planet X. As of writing this, the Grootfall/grootrise arc, which references this miniseries, has only just wrapped up. So It’s not clear if this story is supposed to be a prequel to the 2015 Groot origin or if it’s a full on retcon of it. (Im gonna assume the latter, given how different Flora Colossai are in this compared to the previous origins. Unless Flora Collossus society/planet X as a whole really went down hill after Groot grew up, somehow going from the peaceful forest utopia we see in vol. 2 to the desolate wasteland ruled by an evil king groot in tales to astonish/groot number 6 but I digress) so it’s up in the air for now if/how they connect to each-other…

Origins in other media

As a Marvel multi-media franchise, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and by extension Groot, have had a number of different adaptations and interpretations across various non-comic book mediums including movies, games, tv shows etc. so let’s take a look at four of the most famous ones.

MCU

Weirdly enough, despite this version of Groot (and his son Groot ii aka baby groot) being the most widely known by general audiences thanks to the popularity of the MCU, MCU Groot is the most mysterious when it comes to his origin story. We never get any implications or mentions of it in the entire gotg franchise (outside of a mention of Planet X in the nova police lineup scene in vol.1). The closest we get is an idea James Gunn had planned for a short film about how Groot and Rocket met and a few very brief mentions about it in interviews. In the tweet about the short film idea, James explains Groot was caged up at an intergalactic zoo housing exotic alien creatures and was treated like an animal. Until a worker at the zoo, a robot/cyborg named Tibus Lark, became attached to Groot and helped him escape, becoming his closest friend. Until they found themselves in a hole/prison where Lark and groot would meet Rocket. Being mortally injured, Tibus would explain his and Groot’s story to Rocket before entrusting Groot with Rocket and dying. Rocket would then use the robotic parts of Lark’s body to build his big gun seen in the first gotg and break out of the pit with Groot. Beginning their criminal partnership and (dysfunctional) friendship.

Gotg Disney XD cartoon season 1

In the Disney XD cartoon, Groot grew up on an idyllic and serene Planet X ruled by his father(?), both coming from a long line of flora colossus spanning billions of years who, along with all life on Planet X, all grew from an object known as the world pod. A source of power that exists within groot. Shortly after a day of battle training with his father, the Kree and their leader Ronan invade the planet to mine it of its resources. Dispute the protest of its natives, the planet is burnt to ashes, leaving groot the lone survivor. He’s then taken by the kree and experimented on, along with other kidnapped Earth animals. This is where he meets a newly anthro-ified Rocket, and the two break out together and eventually join the guardians.

Gotg Telltale Game

Like the MCU version, we unfortunately don’t get a look into his backstory, but what we do know from the alternate story path where Rocket stays with Quill and Groot goes with Mantis when the team break up is he is the last of his kind and empathises with mantis greatly because of it.

Gotg Eidos Game

Through conversations with Groot (with Rocket, and later in the game Mantis, translating for Quill), and a few parts of rocket’s conversations, we learn that Groot’s father was the king of Taluhnia (the original native name of Planet X) as well as the other branch worlds. Groot himself wanted to be a forest caretaker so he could care for the plants of Taluhina. In contrast, his father and the arbor masters were corrupt and favoured the needs of the few over the many, and enslaved the sapient animals on Taluhnia. With some saplings even hurting these mammals for fun. Groot however, preferred thier company over the others of his kind due to how nice and smart they were, comparing them to rocket in his convo with Quill and Mantis.

Unfortunately, however, they along with the rest of Taluhnia, would perish after the Chitari would test an experimental doomsday device on the planet. After the planets destruction, the other branch worlds would mobilise an attack, but they were no match for the Chitari and were destroyed as well. Fortunately, groot was able to regrow himself into a smaller sapling form. Making him, as far as he knows, the only survivor. In his smaller form, he would eventually be sold to the collector, but would later be stolen by rocket who raided the whole place while drunk. It’s kind of a mix of the maintenance mammal stuff from the gotg issue 14 story and the general flora Collossus are corrupt stuff from that and groot issue 6, with the alien race wipe out the flora colossus part from the cartoon (though swapping out the Kree for the Chitari this time).

…And that’s it for the most famous Groot origins! Again, this doesn’t include every incarnation of Groot ever, but I think I covered my bases with the most notable continuities. Maybe I’ll have a go at writing my own take on the origin at some point, but for now, I just hope you all enjoyed learning about Groot’s different pasts as much as I did researching them…

After all, she did carry many of the same characteristics of a famous rockstar herself - her beauty, her personality, her toughness. It's clear that her father's fame had given her a unique mindset. That alone was intriguing to him. But it also made him curious, who exactly is the famous rockstar? Who is her father?

At this point, Izzy's mind is set. He's finally got a hint to the identity of the beautiful, blonde woman in his dream. Her father is a famous rockstar, that is all that matters at this moment. But in order to find out who he is, Izzy has to do some serious research. He starts searching for any hints that could point him in the right direction.

Izzy looks through a bunch of magazines and newspapers he found in his room. After 10 minutes of looking. Izzy freezes as he's reading the article on Steven Tyler's daughter. He looks at a photo of her and immediately recognizes her. His dream wasn't just a dream, he was really looking at images of the real girl he saw in his dream. whose name, y/n, is even one of the most unique names he'd ever heard. So this is who she was?!

“DUDEEE!!!” Slash screams as he rams into Izzy’s room. “you gotta come to this party tonight, at Steven Tyler’s daughters house it’s gonna be sick” slash spoke again being all excited. “Have you met y/n?” Slash talked so fast Izzy couldn’t get a words or a reaction in. He's going to have to find a way to be different than all the other guys in order to make a good impression with her. Izzy can't help but be irritated by how close they seem to be. Nacho Varga's outfit analysis and symbolism

Okay uh I just saw a gif set of the scene where Nacho gets rescued by the twins, and I had a revelation but I have no idea if this has been pointed out before. I gave myself like 1 hour of research through tags to see if it was and I didn't find anything. But if it has been, sorry! Anyway here is another very long post about BCS because I have no self control anymore.

So the thing is after all that time spent looking for Nacho and Lalo's outfits yesterday combined to the gif set, I just got hit by the fact that in the scene he's shot and found by the cousins, Nacho is wearing the same kind of shirt as in the very first time we see him.

I even thought at first it was the same shirt, but they are different. And it's a very interesting choice to make considering the scene. It would have been awesome if it was the exact same shirt. Why? Because Nacho gets badly hurt in this scene, right after being caught up by all his choices. He takes a bullet in the shoulder and in the side, which can be compared to many christian representations. @seraphtrevs already did a splendid analysis of Nacho being a Christlike figure, so I wont be too long on that parallel, you can check out her post about it here . So here Nacho is left to die in the desert, covered in blood, and between all the blood and the shirt pattern itself he looks like he's been torn apart by hell hounds and he just came back from the Purgatory. He's caught up by his actions, his choices, he's suffering for it.

It even goes further than just him being badly hurt in this outfit tho. The shirt even gets shredded by the hands of the cousins, the previous version of himself symbolically destroyed by the hands of a Salamanca. And when Leonel removes it with the help of the vet, it even looks hard to get rid of it, like the second skin of a snake if I push the comparison to an extreme.

And of course we have Marco giving him the Salamanca blood afterward, which is still an insane thing in terms of symbolism, I can't believe it happened. It's just plain "you've been torn apart, stripped of a part of you, and now we fill the emptiness of it with a part of us". Wild.

But still, why is it so interesting that Nacho has the same kind of outfit? Because this exact scene happens when his traitorous side is revealed to one of the character that has a lot of power, Fring, and he's now to serve as a double agent. And so, putting him in a look alike outfit from the first apparence tells us that the Nacho we knew before has been killed. There is no way back. There is no healing from this. It's a permanent change. A permanent consequence to his actions. And after all this, Nacho's desire for power and money starts to disappear (and he's been going down this road for a while once his dad is threatened, but this whole situation seals it I believe). So Nacho doesn't wear the exact same shirt. It would have been great for the blatant symbolism of it all, BUT the fact that it's slightly different gives us the opportunity to actually see something more. We have 3 scenes with Nacho that happens in the desert and that kind of echoes each other with their similarities (multiple people gathered, all there to solve a problem, and there is at least one Salamanca in each one). And if we take a look at his outfits in the 3 scenes, that's where it becomes even more interesting than just the first comparison. So let's take a look at the 3 outfits during those 3 key scenes.

We have the first scene we meet Nacho. The pattern is blotchy, black and white (or maybe blue/green/grey something like that, it depends of the light). It's messy, a bit wild looking. It fits Nacho's personality at the beginning of the series. He's got more wit to him, he makes reckless decisions/have reckless ideas (Selling his own stuff on a cartel territory with the pills, terrible planning of a robbery, plotting Tuco's death, hiding his illegal activities to his dad, planning Hector's death, etc) Also black and white suits his personality and his double agent role pretty well. Nacho is stubborn, he has a strong personality. The heavy contrast of black and white fits the way he's capable to strike with his words as well as his fists. He's a sharp thing. He's also in a grey place when it comes to morals, like most of the characters in the show.

Then we have the scene where he's shot and found by the cousins. Like we said we still have a shirt that have some similarities with the first one. It's still a heavy black and white pattern, blotchy, it's irregular BUT there is more structure to it already. We can discern horizontal and vertical lines creating something like a grid pattern. Compared to the first shirt we could assume it represent his change of direction in life. At this moment he got scared of Hector killing his dad, so he acted to get rid of this menace. Nacho isn't looking for more money and power. He's trying to survive and keep his dad safe. He can't be as reckless as before, he has to think things through. So, more planification for survival, more restrain, more care into what he does.

But then, we get to his last scene. The pattern isn't blotchy at all anymore. Still black and white. We have the horizontal and vertical lines still present from the precedent shirt, and of course they look like crosses. But there is still a bit of wildness/irregularity to this pattern, with the way the lines doesn't all connect, it isn't just crosses all over it. Nacho has drastically changed. He's still himself deep down, but there is all the things that changed in him too. At this point he went through everything, and finds himself in a dead-end. He's been obeying orders but also staying alert to not fall into another manipulation, he's more sharp than ever in his perception, still playing his last cards thoughtfully. He's been stripped of so much, all his hopes for a new life, no more desire for power and money at all, he's even sick of all this cartel thing. There is almost no more wildness to him, he was forced to become more calculating and cold in order to survive and protect. And his last moments are spent to surviving long enough to make sure his dad will be safe, to punish the Salamanca once more by revealing what he did to Hector (and there we can see his wild side exploding, it's raw but controlled), and keeping the choice to take his own life instead of letting others have that power over him.

To me, these 3 shirts, using them for desert scenes, it just screams morphing patterns, and so his mind morphing too.

How I found this: So, sometimes when I'm bored I'll pick a random mattrey blog that's been active for a long time, open an old post from their archive, see if there's old inactive mattrey blogs in the notes, and look through their archive to see if there's any posts I could make resurface that had stopped circulating, right? The funny thing is I'll go on reblog sprees, so I actually hadn't listened to the audio when I reblogged it. I was only informed of what it said when I saw others freak out about it.

Daily Show with Craig Kilborn. Why it's my fav? Well, aside from being adorable and iconic, it landed my youtube channel in the lost media wiki! How I found it is actually quite easy, when you look up fansites on the web archive you can do specific search for the files the web archive has saved from it. Turns out sometimes quicktime files work! Four parts were in canniballovers and one in dtisfu if I remember correctly, I just edited them together and posted it. Still wish someone could find it in better quality though. 😔

It may be a website you think hasn't been thoroughly searched (I've tried fb, ig, twitter, worthpoint, ebay, wordpress, tripod, weebly, various fansites on webarchive, footage.net, bilibili/baidu, vimeo, dailymotion, flickr, a load of sketchy other websites I don't remember anymore... basically trey parker has brought me to places I wouldn't go with a gun...) a combination of words, a new search engine that may give u different results (I've tried the ones listed in the lost media wiki guide, my favorite is startpage). Using targeted searching like "word" or site:x "word" or "word combo" before:year, basically trying to make google your bitch. I also use gettyimages like a visual wiki of events Trey's been to+the date, it's quite useful... ik you didn't ask the "how" part but aaaa I like talking about it 😭 I have a lot of fun. Even though sometimes I just come up empty handed even after hours of research. More often than not tbh. Also I'm an obsessed weirdo who checks the words "trey parker" daily on twitter, tumblr, ig, fb, yt, web archive and ebay. 🫠

And also the concept of finding is weird because it has happened to me that I thought I had found something and then it actually had been circulating already, so I tried really hard to answer you by only listing stuff I was fairly sure hadn't been circulating before I got to it, but I mean... it doesn't really matter! Gotta say, I follow BWIIDT and I've read her critiques but I don't recall her ever having done what raxis had done. She never linked to the fic or even outright named it? And she certainly never linked directly to the author. So I still have never seen caps fic , have no idea what the fic is called , and I still don't know who "captain" is.

But if she did the same shit Raxis did and explicitly linked people to the fic and to their social media I would definitely know who they were .

Just want to point out the difference.

Like if I want to know who cap is and read the fic myself I can probably put in the effort and ask or go out of my way to look for it. But that requires actual effort. you need to make a choice and go out of your way to even DO that.

But raxis pasting links and listing names left and right ? that is literally just a mindless click away and the entire fandom knows how aggressive edelstans are , so it's a literal invitation to harassment.

Raxis is basically giving an angry mob the identity and address of a random author he dissgrees with and he's Pikachu face surprised that his MakeAdrestiaGreatAgain buddies stormed over there (literally 1 click away) to attack the author on his behalf? Nah, Raxis has done this for years. he knows.

Thanks, so from what I'm hearing I was right about BWIIDT never providing links or naming the fic?

I initially wasn't following the fic critique. I knew it was going on but I was kind of just not interested in it cuz I didn't really see the point of critiquing the fic at first. Then I started seeing it get recc'd everywhere and shortly after I saw what I believe was BWIIDT's breakdown of Dedue's treatment and I was like. Oh wait this is actually way worse than I thought it was. I thought it was just gonna be some guy's silly little wish fulfillment fic I didn't realize it was gonna be that bad.

But like yeah here's the thing. Sure, people could go figure out Cap's fic from BWIIDT's posts. However, if there's one universal truth about people it's that people are fucking lazy and 99.99% of people are not going to put in the effort to go find the thing.

And also, in forcing people to actually go looking for the thing you greatly increase the chances of someone stopping and saying "wait, what am I doing do I really need to be doing this? Because it just takes longer to find something, and that gives you time to cool down and think about what you're about to do.

I can't tell you how many times I've been pissed off about something and gone to do some research, and in the process of doing the research I've had a second to cool down and suddenly I'm not as riled up or inclined to do anything with the info I've found.

Not related to fanfic but in the same spirit, just as a real example of what I'm talking about. I've been running fandom tournaments and I have spreadsheets for those where I calculate out everyone's total number of votes and rankings. I debated organizing everyone by votes and then posting it midway through the qualifying rounds so people could know who was in the lead, who was behind, who they might wanna focus votes on if they wanted to boost someone into the bracket, etc.

Ultimately I decided against it because I didn't want any potential messiness of someone, say, looking at that frankly presented data and doing some kind of vote manipulation or something. A lot of the characters lower down on the bracket were within only a couple of votes of each other so it would have been really easy to boost someone up with just one or two alt accounts.

Sure technically all of that info is public right on the tournament blog. I've shared the methodology for how I pick the brackets in the past. You could very easily go through the polls and calculate it out yourself to know who is going to be cut. Thing is, most people aren't going to bother to do that, even if they would be willing to try vote manipulating if they just saw the data laid out for them. And it takes like an hour for me to go through and update the spreadsheets and reorganize everything, plenty of time for someone to start trying to calculate everything out and realize that vote manipulating a dumb tumblr poll is, well, dumb.

The point I'm trying to make is, it absolutely matters how easy you made it for people to go find something. Because that will actually make a huge difference in how many people go on to harass an author. And again, that is honestly self-evident at this point? Everyone knows if you link a fic and/or name the fic and the author people are going to be a LOT more likely to go harass them.

For new people who wanna know your ocs, how's a brief rundown of your lovely guyss?

Sure! and thanks for the ask!

First is K-1! First guy i finalized. He's based off of beefy orc designs (and yes his primary inspiration is Knack from Knack but shut up we're moving on). He's essentially a cyborg, a combination of goblin and human DNA (which is a simple way of explaining the orc like appearance) along with cybernetic enhancements and mysterious ancient technology (seen in his spikes and core). He was created government contracted bio laboratory with the goal of developing a unbeatable super soldier. And they succeeded! He's incredibly strong and dependable, and has never lost a single battle. But he's also easygoing so he knows not to take things too far. The most likely to walk through a entrance sideways

Next is Ing (no torso cause i just love this headshot so much)! He (and Cho) are also products of the same laboratory experiments, but to differing results than K-1. Ing is the combination of the elusive blood of a shadow dragon (the most rare, impervious, and violent species) and the DNA of various beasts needed to keep him alive in the early stages of his development (mainly tiger). Because of all the other elements diluting his draconic essence, the end result was a great lack of any desired traits (wings, protective scales, immense strength, etc.) Deemed a failure by the governement for his lacking potential, he spends his days at the facility at which he was born, helping the researchers and training to be stronger while his friends go off into battle. I made him cause the urge for a tiger oc overtook me, but i couldn't just make i tiger, i needed more. My first 'fursona' i suppose. He is more reserved and quiet than the others but he loves learning and isn't shy about his appearance (though intimacy does get to him sometimes~). Has the least noticeable yawns.

And now Chocoa! You know him, you all wanna fuck him, i get it, it's understandable. He's a bull/bear hybrid, and a chimera like Ing. I saw a artist's interpretation of the mix, thought "Seriously? ", and created him in a feverish stupor. Though the third oc, he was the first successful experiment and had many years of victories before K-1 came along. Developed in a separate facility than the others, he's a an arrogant, bullheaded, boorish, crass, and unpleasant guy, just a right asshole. And his lovely personality shines just as bright on the battlefield, earning him many wins and just as many injuries. There's not really much to him past that; loves to fight, loves to smash, he's a jerk, but can get real soft with enough time. Takes the longest showers.

Onwards to Beryl. He's a lynel, those vicious dudes from Breath of the Wild, yeah? But he was born with a mutation, so his horse half is a lion half instead. Which made him docile as a result. I saw art on twitter of a beartaur i believe and was stricken by a mighty need. And i remembered that lynels are like, so fucking cool. He spends his days mining for jewlel and ore, and trading with passerbys for rupees (which he also admires (cause shiny)). He doesn't really like company and finds being friendly with others awkward (especially cause he cant talk). Never wins a staring contest.

(and yeah just his torso doesn't really do him justice but i very bad at drawing animal legs so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

And finally it's Mozi. He's a forest cryptid, mainly a moose dude. The idea for him sprung up randomly from chatting with a certain someone (⬆) and it stuck in me brain from how good it was. For 7 months. He was so hard to finalize for some reason oh my god. But I managed eventually and i freaking love him. He's just a silly moose guy, wandering the woods and napping. The slowest walker and the fastest sprinter. Though, no one has seen him do either...

And that's that! For now. My mind's always working on new angles and ideas after all. But let it be known i fucking adore all these dudes and seeing other people be like "whoa that's cool!" never fails to make me smile~

Okay so... Face Care.

Skin care in general. So @gaphic has more and better thoughts but I saw a post from a gay porn blog that got me thinking so.

There are A Lot of skin care products out there, just like.... So Fucking Many. There are toners, serums, exfoliators, scrubs, soaps, oils, supplements, creams, vitamins, masks, combos of all these and more. However MOST are nonsense, completely useless.

This is collagen

It is Very Large, as proteins go. It Cannot Fit In Pores. Unless they are injecting it directly into your skin collagen does Nothing, zip zilch Nada. If you consume it, the collagen is broken down like any other protein and is not reconstituted back into the same amount of collagen. It may be used partially to create some collagen, but it is the same amount your body normally produces. Your body is producing collagen and maintaining collagen, it does this using food you eat. Eating collagen is not going to trick your body into making more.

Vitamin serums, these can be beneficial depending on the person, more often than not though it is an Oil and the benefit is the fact you are applying Oil to your skin because Your Skin is Leather.

So there are differences between your skin and the skin of an animal in laboratory settings where medical research is done. But when used as leather human skin is Very Similar to any other animal skin. This means that it has similar Needs. You don't clean leather with Water you apply Oils.

Fats and Oils are Lipids.

These are essential as shown above in cell protection. Allowing only a specific amount of liquids in, it is essential that cells do not have too much or too little water in them. When we wash our hands we break down this lipid layer of Hopefully harmful pathogens, corona virus for one. This is why handwashing is essential in medical settings and for lower disease transmission. But, that is because your hands touch EVERYTHING. They have a specific set of rules that apply to them for that reason, you aren't going to rub your eye with your knee (if you do weird flex but okay).

So with all this being said what actually does something for your skin. Let's look at what our skin does first. It grows, it sheds by flaking off slowly, it has pores that release oils and sweat, and has layers. As skin cells age they start drying out and flake off. These are pressed off by the new skin being produced underneath, like a tree producing bark. Dead skin cells and dirt and any other contaminants are prevented from harming your skin by a layer of oil. This is commonly where white heads come from, dead skin and dirt and bacteria aren't carried away and congeal in this oil and block a pore. So skin needs to have this top layer of dead skin and oil removed while leaving the oil in our skin and not harming the new skin.

Soap. Soap breaks down oil, it breaks it down really really well. Thats great for dishes and hands and messes all over the house. For your Whole Body it is ATROCIOUS. You wash off oil and dry your skin to then apply moisturizer aka replacement OIL. Your skin uses OIL to protect against bacteria and contaminants.

Your skin cannot absorb all that water from the shower, if you use soap all over that strips the oil that retain said water and dries out the cells, which you then need to drink water and apply oils again so they can start refilling.

What we will instead do is assist this massive organ in what it already does really really well.

First, exfoliating. Exfoliating just means removing dead skin and the oil that has already done it's work and now has bacteria, skin, and dirt just waiting to be whisked away. Warm water will warm up this oil and fats and your hands or a cloth can remove it. Your hands are rather abrasive so for more sensitive skin or daily washing hands work well and you can wash them after. I use those scrubby gloves they feel Great, I have well oiled skin so the extra scruff just drags away dead skin. I also Highly recommend micellar water for your face. On bad days you can look at the cotton swab and see it become skin colored, just whisks away dirt, makeup, dead skin. Just a cotton swab with some micellar water while in the shower. That's it btw, no lathering needed. You can use soap for spot cleaning or if I work on a car I'll literally have black grease on me and only soap gets that off. Also, I use soap on my ass but I'm gay so there are additional needs being met.

Second, toner. Toner is something I did not think did anything. It does, a good toner will help rebalance the pH of your skin after it getting fucked by a bunch of water, presumably heavily chlorinated water. A good toner will also help reduce bacterial growth in your really sweaty areas like between your legs and pits, reducing harsh smells. I use diluted apple cider vinegar, works great and the smell of the apple cider vinegar when applied to skin goes away in a few minutes. Salt water is also a form of toner in this sense, the salt is antimicrobial and helps stabilize your pH.

Third, oil. Oil is your friend. Oil will change your skin for the better. I use jojoba, it is very similar in consistency to the oil your skin naturally produces. Apply this everywhere, you want it everywhere and it will lock in moisture and assist in protecting your skin throughout the day. I apply a moisturizer before the oil, you really don't have to but I think it feels nice. Most moisturizes will do the trick, just get what you like and is cheap, much like wine.

Fourth, sunscreen. Yeah, listen sunscreen does work. It is real and genuine and you will honestly probably notice a reduction in acne and skin problems once you start. The sun is a deadly lazer. Australian made sunscreen works Really well they have strict standards for efficacy. Don't trust those 150 SPF that's an insane factor that isn't really achievable, they are fibbing usually.

I barely use soap now and my skin is amazing, it feels good. I of course use soap where needed, I work in healthcare so I wash my hands like a fanatic. I have never smelt better, I have never felt cleaner, I save so much money by just not succumbing to this cavalcade of tinctures and potions and snake oils... (Actually snake oil sounds nice) it's hard to describe fully but my skin feels Better.

It feels like this. Moisturized, full, warm, clean. Thats another thing I'm Warmer since I started doing this, my skin feels warmer and keeps me warmer when I'm well oiled. I don't flake skin like crazy and I itch rarely. I oil my scalp and my hair is thick and luscious and my dandruff went away. I can buy most of these things in bulk, I also don't have a twelve step thirty minute long morning and night routine. I know we hear over and over and over again "omg you don't scrub every inch of your body with soap every day???????? Thats so grooooosssssss thats unhygienic!!!!!!!!" But there just isn't evidence to support that. Yes if you literally do not wash yourself that is unhygienic. You are not making yourself less covered in bacteria by scrubbing with soap. You Are Mostly Bacteria By Volume. You are COVERED in living things, you are ALIVE that is just how it is. The conditions to render something sterile are the conditions required to kill All Living Things. Boiling water, extreme heat, radiation, or a series of some of the harshest chemicals we have. You are not benefitting yourself or others by committing a mass slaughter of your non pathogenic microbiome. You are just gonna be itchy.

The broken case of Palladia definitely has an impact, but the Aquila's situation is more of a problem overall.

There's a backstory, but like many cool scars, it's not anything earth-shattering.

Is Phoebe a love interest? I really liked what we saw of her so far so I am hoping she might be!

What exactly happened in the world? I am not sure I understand what was the "disaster" that changed the planet.

This is a big, complicated thing. There wasn't any one thing, but it was a combination of war, disease, the effects of climate change, and the most unlikely one, the shifting of the earth's magnetic poles leading to more or less a collapse of satellite based technologies. For example, Alaska isn't a state anymore. Most of the global superpowers broke apart as everything deteriorated.

Will we be able to assemble crew in future or ask characters to join the boat crew?

I cannot answer this question right now.

will we see Krissa again, and will she have a role in the plot?

We may see Krissa again, but that depends on how long the story runs, and I know in my mind what role she would likely play. I don't think it's a huge one, but I do feel that every character plays some important role. (Even Ross 😅)

Chand, I love him as friend, so I was wondering: will we have the chance to pair him up with someone? My heart goes out for him and his endless quest in finding love! He deserves happiness too after all .

I have someone in mind as a potential matchmaking option for Chand. I don't know if it will actually play out at this time.

Apart from obvious “we and our progeny will all die if this issue will not be addressed soon” what was inspiration behind choosing climate change as a topic? Why post-apocalyptic setting?

There are a few reasons for this. I think that the way the world is changing is something that affects all of us, but a lot of us have a lifestyle that allows us to look away. It's a difficult topic and honestly, the research I did for this story has been heartbreaking at times. I think there's a tendency to look at these huge issues and feel that they're just too big to think about or not our problem. So, in one regard, I wanted to not just ignore the problem but also not be completely doom and gloom about it. I do think that no matter what happens, people will continue to find ways to adapt to and live on our planet. Nature and animals are also near and dear to my heart and a huge source of inspiration for me. The post-apocalyptic setting was also, in part, to make sailing relevant in a futuristic setting, and it kind of fit naturally with the collapse of infrastructure that supports most of our modern transportation and supply chains.

This book has an incredibly diverse cast of main and side characters. Did you base any of them on people you know?

Not specifically.I certainly looked at people that often weren't represented in media and the stories and experiences they had, and took that into consideration when creating the cast. Of course, there are so many underrepresented people that I feel like I only put a drop in the ocean here.

Any chance Pramila is an LI? May be not a full branch? We're in love with her character design.

She is not a romanceable character, unfortunately. I agree, the artists did a great job with her.

From which character chand ,sunny was inspired?

No characters in particular, actually. I started more with an idea of the role I wanted them to play in the story.

Will be able to adopt baby orca?

Sort of? As much as you can adopt a wild orca.

Will chand and pramila converse in Hindi?

Pramila is actually not Indian. Her parents named all their children after famous historical figures. She does know some hindi though.

snowball has changed quite a bit since his previous incarnation...let's find out how!

For starters...I decided he sounds like Nergal now!

I like to think he was one of the 'ambassador' animals for a zoo or something before dipping to explore the world beyond his home town, and eventually he'd meet the mysterious arctic researcher and their lab partners/sled dogs Cookies and Cream, Red Velvet, and Breakfast Sandwich... and after hearing about their plans to research the penguins there, even after knowing what that would entail (the free visit to Area 51 you don't return from...he agreed to help them.

So! I'd imagine that after Scrabble and Rolly escaped it'd be much harder, if not impossible for the researcher and their lab partners to sneak on the island with the EPF and civilians being on the alert for dogs and suspicious pawprints. Heck, even disguising themselves is a crapshoot what with the ah, two bears working for the EPF at the time (Mukluk and Chauncey, naturally) would be able to smell the difference right away...but they'd never expect a fellow penguin to join and relay information back to the researcher now would they? (Of course, one should if working with someone already planning to do unethical tests on penguins is someone you can actually trust, let alone expect not to throw you under the bus for their gain when you're a penguin....but Snowball did not! If anything bad happened to the captured penguins, obviously he'd be fine and exempt from whatever was in store for him. Obviously.)

I imagine while he was an agent, he probably became a Tech agent in order to get closer to Gary and (ideally) find out a way to sabotage the penguins he was targeting. Can't stop the dogs from piling them when their spy phones mysteriously stop working before they can call for help. :^)

I imagine he's posh, and pretty picky and particular about things. He'd refuse to eat say, caviar unless it was very fresh and he saw it being prepared for example. He's also very persuasive, which combined with him becoming an agent is a pretty bad thing...

Despite not working with Herbert, I think he'd admire Herbert and find him attractive. Herbert doesn't not approve of that. I imagine Board Guy catches feelings for him, but it's. Very much not reciprocated.

He's pretty interested in biology, psychology, and similar sciences and considers himself an expert...but really, it's mostly surface level knowledge.

I imagine the researcher probably wanted as many captives test subjects as possible, but after many discussions it was narrowed down to: Scrabble and Rolly (for revenge after the two of them ruined their first attempt and may or may not have sunk their research ship in their haste to get away, and also because one is dragony and the other is a living drawing), Richter (because they wanted to see what was up with this unauthorized spy camera that no other researchers mentioned, especially if it was allegedly sapient), Gambit (because of the fact they were magically changed by the Box Dimension), Blanche (because she's a Frost Bite), Gary (so the EPF would take a hit from losing one of their most important guys, and also because the researcher wants to study his huge brain) and Test Sled (specifically because Snowball was angry at them for cutting ahead in line at the Coffee Shop once, since they're not an agent nor different from the average penguin in any way).

Puffles do not like Snowball. He does not like them either.

Of course, selling out your own kind so you can feel a smug sense of superiority makes about as much sense as voting for the leopards eating faces party with the expectation that it's okay since they won't eat your face. And brother, much like those leopards who can enjoy a good face, when the researcher decided that he's an 'unnatural color for an adelie'? It was over, and he too was captured alongside them.

Snowball probably tried to capture the Elite Puffles alongside the captured agents (and civilian) but considering Flare is powerful enough to make blue fire....yeaaah, he probably only got Bouncer at most since he figured she was the least dangerous option.

It's hard to tell in his most recent drawing since his flippers are in the way, but he has markings like this penguin. Pants...

I imagine when the others get out, Rolly can't just leave the guy to be tested on for eternity despite everything and they all escape together...with the stipulation that he has to be watched by the EPF and is expected to go to reformation classes for a while. Whether or not he actually becomes better or simply finds a new person to work under? Only time will tell!
