Husk having once been an Overlord makes so much sense when you look at his character design. The Overlords are the sinners who own the most souls. They also have visual theming that communicates what their entire "deal" is. Carmilla is made of steel and points and she sells weapons. Valentino looks like a pimp and works in the porn industry. Alastor is a radio host. Presumably their jobs and specialties (or simple conquest) is also where they get most of the souls they own, like Valentino with Angel Dust.

But there's a gap in the line-up. Gambling. There's no Overlord with an obvious gambling motif like Husk has. Out of all the exploitative industries where people could end up signing their very souls away, gambling seems like the most obvious. So as the only character who looks like they could be running a bunch of casinos where people go so broke they end up betting their souls, which Hell has to have, it fits Husk very well.

#hazbin hotel #though the real question is why there hasn't been another Overlord coming from the gambling industry #since there has to be a lot of souls up for grabs there. or maybe there just isn't a single person with the monopoly Husk once had yet #with all those souls split between several different people so none have enough to qualify as an Overlord #and I have no doubt the people gambling their souls are trapped in contracts WAY more encompassing than Angel Dust's #or other soul contracts which seem to operate more like really binding and exploitative work contracts that people get tricked into #since someone desperate enough to gamble their soul is probably just going 'you win you own my soul' and no other stipulations #which also might explain my Alastor's contract on Husk seems so much more binding since Husk lost it gambling #also idk the cat-with-wings + card-and-roulette motif design doesn't quite fit bartender. but predatory casino owner? it's very good

Husk and Alastor Theory

Alastor's power was hinted by Husk to be tied to whomever he made a deal with, and Alastor is extremely touchy about the subject because of the way Hell's hierarchy works. If anyone were to find out that he's a fraud, then all of his powerbase and reputation would vanish overnight. This in turn could strongly be the reason why he also keeps Husk on a leash as well, because Husk knows the truth about him and Alastor is determined to make sure that he doesn't expose him by any means necessary.

It's telling that Alastor doesn't go out of his way to just kill Husk, given that it'd probably be a safer way to ensure that his secret never gets out. But what if the reason is because Alastor in reality isn't powerful enough to actually kill him? Husk did fall from his position of Overlord, but it's strongly implied to be less the result of him having no power and more due to his bad gambling problems making him take bad risks that blew up in his face.

It's possible that Husk is still far more powerful than Alastor, but he's just been so psychologically broken down and weakened by the chains that he doesn't consider that Alastor doesn't have as much power as he thinks he does. Alastor recognizes this and exploits it to his advantage, using manipulation, gaslighting, and sleight of hand to keep Husk under his control.

We know that Alastor loves owning souls; he probably owns thousands. He might be fine with Angel Dust and Sir Pentious getting redeemed because he never made a deal with them. But if Husk slowly tries to get redeemed, that's when he'll attempt to sabotage the hotel because why would he want to lose control of these souls?

i think i’ve learned a lot when it comes to not applying my own values to the media i consume

for my script analysis class yesterday, we discussed two gentleman from verona, and nearly every classmate of mine was up in arms about how sexist the story is.

and i'm not saying it's not, or that it's not infuriating to read. but i'm also not putting my energy into getting upset about something written 500 or so years ago. and i'm not about to put my own beliefs onto these characters that are not me. i'm going to let their choices speak for themselves, and interpret it in the context of the story.

all that said, this now brings me to the point of alastor in episode 5, and how viscerally people are responding to it. those of you up in arms about the choices he’s making, and the violent threat he gave husk, you’re missing the entire point of his character, of this place they’re in, of the story being told. he’s an overlord, and he became an overlord by killing much bigger overlords and broadcasting their deaths over the radio.

HE IS NOT A GOOD PERSON.

if you started this show with the belief that every character working the hotel is a good person, you’re in the wrong place. watch the good place if you’re looking for a good wholesome story about getting dead sinners into heaven, because that’s not what this show is about.

you’re more than welcome to hate him after seeing the way he exerted power over a being whose soul he owns, but you’re doing the media you’re watching a disservice by writing it off so quickly. if you don’t like to be uncomfortable watching media, watch something else. this is an uncomfortable show, it handles uncomfortable topics, and it’s going to be an uncomfortable ride, and if you’re not up for something like that, then you should take a break from it and pick up something else. you don’t have to get online and defend your own ideals while you watch a show that goes against your ideals.

as someone with a guilty pleasure for isekai and time regression stories I am just thinking of a story where Husk dies and wakes up during the height of his Overlord days with the memories of everything that would happen and has just. From the outside perspective become a completely different person overnight and changed his ways (read: the morals he gained during his afterlife he applies to how he, uh... Overlords?). A Husk whose last soul deal is to get Angel Dust away from Valentino (and offers Angel his freedom, which Angel possibly decides not to take for the time being bc it'd be safer for him to be under contract than not, with Valentino as mad as he is), and who avoids making bets/deals with Alastor like the plague. Starts building alliances with other Overlords (maybe even including Alastor, albeit reluctantly) to steadily create a support network/team (which is also useful when going up against the Vees once they're established), and just bides his time until Charlie and Vaggie open their hotel- which, at the time of his death, he had come to love and support the cause of.

And Husk is ready to be the hotel's sponsor, immediately. Alastor gets there and finds Husk beat him to it (seeing as Husk knows about it before the interview even airs), but unlike Alastor with his ulterior motives, Husk actually wants to help.

After all, he died for the hotel, and its people, once upon a time

Just wanted to start a conversation about the districts and overlords of Pentagram City.

So an overlord is any sinner with lots of power, territory, souls or all of the above. They can be in charge of a industry like weapons, entertainment, internet, radio etc which can form its own district.

So far I’ve only seen two districts names confirmed (Doomsday and Cannibal) the other two are just assumption. I love that the Vs district is the most modern. Some districts or industries that may exist are mafia, drug production, and Gambling.

There are sinners that have blocks of territory but not considered a “heavy hitter” I think Husk was an Overlord of Gambling and owned casinos and some territory he won in gambling.

Making Out with Hazbin Hotel Men But with the No Touching Rule

Pairing: Alastor, Lucifer, Adam, Angel Dust, Husk, Sir Pentious, Vox, Valentino x Reader

A/N: I can't remember where I heard this was a thing but it sounded interesting.

Alastor doesn't need to try, he can very easily keep his hands to himself. You need to beg for his touch if you want him but his lips are every where on you, kissing and sucking, no biting yet. You need to break and touch him first, then he'll bite.

Lucifer lasts a pretty long time while you make out but one carefully placed nibble on his bottom lip and his hands are on your hips. His winds come out quickly after, flying you both into the air. Technically he could kiss you against the ceiling if you wanted.

Adam thinks this game is absolute bullshit and loses in the first second. No game will tell him that he can't touch his lover, he's not gonna let you trick him like that. He will hold you against his soft belly and kiss you until your lungs and lips hurt from it.

Angel Dust has a lot of fun with games like these, they make everything more interesting in his opinion. Are there any punishments involved cause if so he will try extra hard. He does have multiple sets of hands so it will be a very hard time for him.

Husk makes this an easy win for him. Of course he does, he was a gambling overlord once, these kinds of games are his thing. But unlike his previous games there won't be anything lost here, only more kisses, and maybe some occasional purring.

Sir Pentious is only able to take it for one minute before his tail coils around you and he holds you close. He is careful not to bite you but a playful nibble here and there is fine with you. That being said you will never let him forget how quickly he folded to you.

Vox knows you will be the one to touch him first. He lays back with his hands behind his head and just waits for you to grab him by the shoulders for a deeper kiss. You are so damn predictable and he's not saying that as a bad thing.

Valentino will tell you how much he hates this game but is too stubborn to lose to you. He will make you grind against him but not touch him, he will drive you insane and make you a needy mess on top of him. All the while only kissing you.

Husk and nifty up next! They are a bit harder since their personalities aren't explored as much. However I still had fun thinking about what to do with them!

In this AU I’d say that husk never was an overlord. Since we don’t know much about nifty and Al’s relationship, which I’m going off of for the sake of this AU, I’m just gonna say that Charolette helped husk in a time he needed it and thus made a deal with him. His personality is also a bit of a shot in the dark as well because that too doesn’t have lots to go off of. But if I had to guess I’d say that husk at his core is a caring person, and can see through any facade. So in this AU *Husker* has those same traits, but with that more silly and slightly sadistic tone that Nifty has.

Nifty or rather Niff. Is basically just Nifty with that grumpy old drunk vibe husk has. And as for backstory I’d say that she was an overlord. And made a deal with charlotte to save her power. But instead of a gambling issue, maybe it was more of an obsessive behavior. Which is something shown in the show. Anyways this obviously backfired and she now works as the bar tender of the hotel. I’ll draw it eventually but the actual bar doesn’t change in size. Instead she just has this goofy stool she uses.

Now since this isn’t a like total swap and Al was still the radio demon at one point that made me wonder if I wanted it to still be his deals the two are under. But I’m on then fence about that because he would likely free their souls. Not wanting to force them to help like how he does in the show. So I figured why not have it be Charolette? It would make sense for the AU being a swap and all, and also give more depth to her overall. I have some more ideas regarding her and Al but I’ll do it in a separate post.

he would literally keep you wrapped in his wings all night — all day if he could

this is definitely one of his favorite ways to show intimacy like he loves having you close to him; touching him, relying on him, holding him. it makes him feel so close to you, how could he not love it?

the minute this man sees you even shiver he’s wrapping his wings around you “are you cold?” doesn’t matter what you say, you’re already wrapped in his wings

whenever you fall asleep next to him, he just drapes his wings over you as a warm, feathery blanket, watching you relax with a smile

if you were to curl into his wings or hug them closer, he’s already planning your future (then he’s also trying not to make a sound that would wake you up cus i just know his wings are sensitive)

now if you used a blanket instead of his wings, he’d definitely start to wonder if he did something, but if you seemed uncomfortable, shifting and turning, he’d cautiously drape his wings over you and make him melt with how quickly you settled

if you said something like “i didn’t want to inconvenience you by asking” he’d just put his wings around you anyway and tell you to go back to sleep with a reminder you could never inconvenience him

okay husk is definitely the kind of guy to use is wings to stop you from walking into traffic or some shit (or even walking toward alastor)

he’s more of a “put his wing in front of you if someone looks at you wrong” kinda guy

overlord husk would definitely have you under his wing for protection from anyone trying to gamble with him

if anyone tried to bargain with him for you/your attention, he’s got his wing out in front of you (and he’s taking their soul)

if theres a brawl going on, he’ll shield you with his wings while he deals with it cus theres no way he’s letting anything happen to you (and since he knows he’ll win, there’s no way he’s letting any blood get on you either)

now when he’s asleep is when he’s not in control of what his wings do (or he his just subconsciously)

his wings would be draped over you — and if you just so happened to fall asleep first with a blanket, that blanket would somehow magically disappear and you’d wake up in the morning with his wings as a much softer alternative

if you got up in the middle of the night you best believe he’s waking up and waiting for you to get back before falling right back asleep when you do with his arm and wing over you

now if you asked him to drape his wings over you, he’s 100% doing it without question. anything you want, no complaints

husk may be a private guy but he’s very caring

now this man is 1000% percent used to wrapping you up in his wings

you’ll somehow end up having office sex and he’ll have to wrap his wings around you when someone walks in, masking it as polishing his feathers

he’d start doing this when you were alone, finding it so much more intimate (but also secretive and more arousing)

whenever he wants a kiss, he’s wrapping his wings around you so you can’t get away (not that you’d want to)

if he’s teasing you, he’s got his wings wrapped around you, mocking you for liking it so much and then using the privacy of his wings to dote on you, whispering sweet nothings and peppering kisses on your face (before he goes right back to being an ass)

if you even try to use a blanket over his wings, he’s the most pissy, butthurt man in all of heaven “want me to fluff them up for you or some shit? what’s this about?” and it’d slowly morph into “are you mad at me?” then “so… you want to break up” and you’d have to talk him down until you were safely wrapped in his wings

if you fell asleep before he got home, under a blanket, he’d literally just get rid of the blanket and wait for you to curl into him, sleepily grabbing for a blanket and giving him the perfect opportunity to stretch out his wings and watch you burry yourself beneath them

now if you grab his wings at all, he’s waking you up because he can’t handle that “what’d i tell you about touching my wings, babe?” (but you’d grab them again anyway)

if you ask him to put his wings around you in public, he’ll deny it because he’s so off guard that his sensitive wings could not handle wrapping around you without taking you home (of course as soon as you got home he’d apologize and give you what you wanted)

now you just ask out of the blue to see his wings involuntarily fluff and stretch and watch him choke on his words

if you asked when you were alone he’d be happy to oblige

sometimes you’d walk down the promenade and he’d just put his wing over you to make sure everyone knew who you were

after a gig, same thing, no one is getting near you

watching a movie? well, she doesn’t want to sit on her wings so obviously she just needs to stretch them out. it’s not her fault you’re sitting next to her

you’re reading? you like to be cozy and she couldn’t find a blanket to give you so her wings are the next best thing (or best thing really)

don’t even think about asking for it though, she will stop…. for like three days then go right back to doing it cus she misses you

and she does not like the fact that you’re under some blanket because she just knows it’s not warm

yes. she would be jealous of a blanket.

she hides the blankets but so do you so its okay

now theres no chance in hell she’s putting her wings anywhere near you in public

if someone is a little too friendly, she’s stretching her wings out then using one to pull you close before walking away with a sour look on her face and dragging you with her

she also uses her wings to stop you from doing things, but if you move them out of the way she’s gotta stop herself from doing something

don’t touch her wings… seriously don’t. she wont know what to do with herself and you’ll have a serious problem on your hands (maybe a clingy problem depending on the day)

now say both of you are exorcists, she’s definitely using her wings to protect you. there’s a sinner trying to fight back? she’s darting to you, wrapping her wings around you, and getting rid of that sinner faster than you can blink

and in that last battle??? she’s not letting you anywhere near that shield, keeping you behind her with her wings shielding you. once its gone, she’s slaughtering anyone that gets near you and using her wings to move you out of the way, keep you close, or take blows for you (i just know once lute cares about someone she’s protecting them with her life cus she refuses to lose anyone)

once you get home she’s got you wrapped up in her wings and holding you close

if you’re not an exorcist, she’s doing this after every extermination — there’s no way she’s letting you go and she’ll fall asleep like that before you even get the chance to talk about it, or worse get up and leave her (and she is not talking about it the next day so don’t bother trying, she’ll just ignore you and hand you a blanket… before getting jealous later)

and if you hold her back, you can feel her wings flutter while she sleeps, folding in and pulling you impossibly closer
