20 Question Fic Writer Tag
Yayyy! Thanks for tagging me @grapenehifics 😁 And thanks to @ineffable-snowman for tagging me too! ❤️
How many works do you have on ao3?
I only have six Obikin fics on AO3, which isn’t a lot, but I’m hoping to write more! I’ve posted fics for a different fandom that I’m no longer active in, but that was a lifetime ago and I don’t monitor those fics anymore.
2.) What's your ao3 word count?
AO3 says 107,086. I know that’s not a lot compared to some folks, but it’s more than I thought I’d get to when I started writing again a few months ago.
3.) What fandoms do you write for?
Right now, only Prequels/Clone Wars Star Wars, and only Obikin because they’ve taken over my brain. And mainly modern AUs, but I have couple ideas that are in the Star Wars universe.
4.) What are your top five fics by kudos?
Cruel Summer (Intern AU) - 175
Edge of Greatness (Figure skating AU) - 132
The Next Model (Top Model AU) - 125
Heartbreak Prince (Same age HS AU) - 70
In Good Hands (Hairstylist AU) - 69
5.) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, I always respond to comments! I try to respond within a few days. But yes, I love comments. I’m grateful that someone would take the time to not only read my fics, but to also leave a note or an emoji or wall of text 😭 so I try to show my appreciation by responding. Sometimes I’ll get a comment that’s really touching and I’ll reread it when I’m having a bad day. I love when I get into little side convos or hearing about headcanons in the comments!
6.) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I’m incapable of writing anything but a happy ending for Obikin. I want so badly for them to find peace and joy together, whether that’s through lots of cuddles and sex or a platonic life-long friendship.
7.) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All of them? 😁 I like to end my fics in a way where they’re at a good place, and afterward they run off and have more adventures and I might not know exactly what they’re up to, but I know they’re happy.
8.) Do you get hate on fics?
Not since I’ve written for the SW and Obikin fandom. Everyone here has been wonderful and encouraging and kind of feral in the most amazing way. I can’t tell you how much I love love love the positive vibes.
It wasn’t always like that in my previous fandom and I eventually left. Although, it wasn’t really hate. I started getting comments about how I wasn’t incorporating certain extreme kinks (which I didn’t know how to write), sort of suggesting that what I wrote wasn’t interesting. And there were plenty of writers who did write those kinks so it was a little baffling. I’m a firm believer that everyone should be able to read or write whatever they like without judgment or shame, but it got to the point where my confidence took a huge hit and I wasn’t having fun anymore.
9.) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I do write smut! Soft, fluffy, vanilla smut where they look at each other with hearts in their eyes. If my smut were a cake, it would be funfetti.
10.) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
No, but I like putting them modern AUs so maybe the Top Model fic is kind of a crossover?
11.) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I didn’t realize this was a thing. How do I know if a fic has been stolen?
12.) Have you ever had a fic translated?
A couple years after I left my previous fandom, someone reached out and asked if they could translate one of my fics into a different language. It was really heartwarming and humbling to hear that something I wrote resonated with someone enough to make them want to translate it and share it. I said yes, but I’m not sure I ever got the link to the translated version.
13.) Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
I co-wrote a big bang with another author for my previous fandom. It was a lot of fun and someone made a playlist to go with our fic. We had similar writing styles, to the point that our betas got confused over who wrote which chapters.
14.) What's your all time favorite ship?
Probably Obikin. Their dynamic is so intriguing to me. There’s endless possibilities. Plus, the authors in this fandom are so freaking talented and creative and that fuels my love for them.
15.) What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I don’t have too many WIP at the moment. I only have two that have actual words, the rest are ideas that haven’t solidified yet. But I plan to finish the ones I’ve started writing.
16.) What are your writing strengths?
I’m terrible at self-assessments. I like to think that I can create a feeling of longing or pining. I love a slow burn, especially a friends to lovers type relationship, and that’s where I like to live with the things I write. There’s that phase where they’re both too afraid to tell the other how they feel. But they stare longingly and wonder if the other’s thinking of them too. And maybe there’s miscommunication or an ill-conceived reason for why they can’t be together that leads to some mild angst before they confess their love and fuck all gentle and sweet.
17.) What are your writing weaknesses?
Writing anything that has a complex plot or interwoven side plots. I’m very linear and simplistic. I’m always so impressed when I read something and the plot has been intricately planned and the little details tie together in the end. These are truly talented writers. Like, you should be publishing novels and getting paid. If I had more time and brain space, I’d love to try planning something more complex someday.
18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I’m not against it, but I can barely post anything without typos in English so I wouldn’t trust myself to include dialogue in another language.
19.) First fandom you wrote for?
X-files, Mulder/Scully. I didn’t post it to gossamer. I just had it on my computer and was too scared to show it to anyone.
20.) Favorite fic you've ever written?
This is tough, and it’s going to be a long and rambly answer.
Definitely the fics I’ve written for Obikin are my favorites. And if I had to pick one of them, it would probably be Edge of Greatness, only because it was the first thing I posted to AO3 in about 12 years.
I started writing fics again a few months ago as a way to do something for myself because most of my life revolves around taking care of my family. I had the idea in my head for about a month before I finally dusted off my old 2008 Macbook and wrote the whole thing in about three weeks. It was such a freeing feeling to be writing again, but I still had that criticism in my head. At that time, I wasn’t sure I wanted to share it once I finished it, but I also was trying to challenge myself.
I took baby steps. I got a new AO3 account and sat on it for a week before I began uploading the first few chapters. It was exciting and terrifying at the same time. My hands were shaking when I posted the first four chapters knowing that they would be out there in the world. I was convinced that no one would read them and I was okay with that because the goal I set for myself was to post and not care what other people thought. But the next morning I saw that I had kudos and comments and had a nice little cry. Some people, like @grapenehifics left comments in every chapter and I can’t put into words what that meant to me. So I’m not sure that it’s my best fic, but it holds special meaning to me and I’ll always love it for that reason.
I’m tagging anyone who writes fics and wants to share! I love reading these types of responses! ❤️

What are some of your favorite books?
Sorry for taking so long to answer this when I asked for Qs on my birthday I really did expect something easier to answer
Anyway top books are the raven cycle and I've greatly enjoyed anything else of Stiefvater's I've read (except shiver), almost anything written by v e Schwab (notable exception is this savage song, I didn't even read the sequel) the night circus and the starless sea, the six of Crows duology, king killer chronicles (which sucks bc the third book is definitely never coming out) especially the slow regard of silent things, and I don't care what people say about how cringe it is the all for the game series is so important to me
I also love anything I've read by Diana Wynne Jones although I haven't read even a fraction of her writings - like uh eight or nine books I think? I have a few more I haven't read yet I'll hopefully get to soon but like I think she wrote like 30 or 40 books. Ella enchanted and the brothers lionheart are a couple of my childhood favs. The strange and beautiful sorrows of ava lavender is a book I read in like early hs that I thought I might've overhyped in my head but then I reread it a couple of years ago and it's SO GOOD. I listened to the entire murderbot diaries a few months ago, fucking delightful. The lies of locke lamora is so good. Spinning silver and uprooted are PEAK. I haven't finished the sequels yet but the fifth season is so fucking good if you've been afraid it's overrated it really is not. The Carls duology by hank green is also really good
Special mention to never contented things which is one of the books that affected me the most ever but I've never managed to reread and I honestly can't recommend it easy bc it's pretty dark but if you look up the trigger warnings and want to give it a short go ahead
For classics, pride and prejudice and emma are easily my favs. I love Emily Dickinson's poetry so much I dedicated my book to her (link in bio if you want to check it out 👀👀)
I have another ask waiting for me asking for my fav comics so I'll put that aside for now
I also really like listening to celebrity autobiographies and there's some rly mediocre ones but there's also ones I can't recommend enough. Obviously we've all heard of I'm glad my mom died, I think it was my top read of 2022 don't quote me on that tho I have shitty memory. Born with teeth by kate mulgrew is something truly special, I don't have the words honestly. Where am I now by mara wilson made me cry in public. I don't really read much nonfiction that isn't autobiographies (I'm working on it but it doesn't grab my attention as easily) but denial by deborah lipstadt is really good, I liveblogged reading that a few years ago
Obviously I've read and loved so many more books but I think this is so long as is! Yeah it's a hectic mix of many genres (fantasy scifi contemp romance poetry autobiographies adventure) and target age groups (all ages and ya and na and adult), but every single one of these is a genuine rec that I love. Thank you so much for asking!!

Happy Life - Super Awesome Trip?
Primary Pairing: N/A Starring: Riko, Chika, You Rating: G Words: 354 Fandom: Love Live Sunshine Parent Fic: Happy Life Time Frame: Sometime during their 2nd year of HS Event: Promptober 2023 Event Source: Idol Fanfic Heaven channel on Discord Prompt: Journey
---------
Author's Note: Bonus 2nd entry for the 2nd that I forgot to post here before my primary post for the 3rd...
Summary: A little glimpse into a fairly normal Riko, Chika and You composition, lyric writing and costume design combined session
--------
“<SUPER AWESOME TRIP>?” Riko read the stylized title in English at the top of the lyrics sheet.
“Yeah, isn’t it awesome?” Chika asked excitedly.
Riko scanned the scrawled scribblings that could be construed as a rough draft of the lyrics for a new Aqours song. She had worked with Chika long enough that she was getting pretty good at determining the direction the other girl wanted to go with a particular song, even if a few things were initially illegible.
“I like where this is going.” Riko admitted. “But I’m afraid the title really isn’t working for me.”
“Hrm…” Chika thought for a moment. “Alright, how about Super Amazing Travel…”
“That’s already a song that AZALEA wrote.” You interrupted, looking from her own papers where she was designing outfits for the group.
Chika blinked. “AZALEA has a song with Super in the title?”
“No, Amazing Travel DNA, remember?”
“Oh, right.” Chika giggled before sticking out her tongue. “Maybe Super Wonderful Journey?”
“Can we just drop the Super please?” Riko asked.
“So just Wonderful Journey?”
“Sounds a little too much like SKY JOURNEY.” You dismissed.
“No, it would Wonderful, not SKY.”
Riko shook her head, unconvinced.
“Wonderful Adventure?”
“Guilty Kiss just sang Phantom Rocket Adventure.” Riko pointed out.
“Wonderous Wanderings?” You offered.
Riko laughed lightly. But while she enjoyed the alliteration, it still didn’t quite fit. Something still felt… off. She reread the lyrics.
“The theme feels more like preparing for a journey rather than the journey itself.” Riko expressed her realization aloud. “So maybe something like Lovely Leaving?”
“Excellent Escape?” Chika suggested.
“Remarkable Retreat.” Riko countered.
“Fantastic Flight.” You said.
“Oh, I like the fantastic…” Riko thought about other words for depart… wait, that was it. “Fantastic Departure?” Even though it didn’t fit with the alliteration they had just been using.
“I love it!” Chika proclaimed, taking the lyrics sheet back from Riko.
“That works.” You nodded in agreement.
“Thanks, Riko-chan!” Chika said with a smile.
A moment later, the old title had been scribbled out and the new one written under it. And the girls continued their lyrics, composition, and costume design session.
---------
Author's Note Continued: I was trying to come up with another idea for an entry for this prompt and couldn't get Fantastic Departure out of my mind. This may have something to do with the song name being used in another IFH event that I enjoyed. And while the prompt was Journey, one has to Depart to go on one. Then my mind started running through its thesaurus and this chapter was written over a lunch break at work.

💕 self-love time! talk about which ones of YOUR creations (edits, artworks, fanfics) you like the most then send to other creators to do the same 💕
I love this! Thank you, hun. For me, I'd say there are a top 3.
In Chains: one of my favorite One Piece fics. I've written a lot for the fandom but honestly, IC is my favorite because I've put so much into the characters and islands I've written about. It's just so fun and I've probably reread this fic about 10 times. And because Law is my number one; love him.
Hello Sorrow: I have to admit when I first started this story I didn't think readers would take to it. I started writing it for myself the day after the RE Village g came out. My husband preordered it so we got an hour's head start and by the time he got to Heisenberg's factory I was enamored with the man. My head immediately came up with the plot for HS and I began working on it immediately. The love and support I got just blew me away. But what makes this fic one of my favorites is how Irina thinks. I wanted her to be that person who wants to survive and would do anything just to live.
Where the Tainted Kiss: for a new fic this one has brought me so much love and frustration and I think that is why it's one of my favorites. Writing Vaas can be so damn hard since he's unpredictable; it leaves both little and lots of options so in every chapter, I have to ask 100 questions just to finish. Mostly what would Vaas do - WWVD? Lol. It's been a fun adventure though. I'm excited about the conclusion.

Just finished Homestuck? Here's what to do next.
Tumblr media
A tumblr repost of something I just made for the Homestuck Reddit.
The Reddit version is going to be the one I update. It may get reposted by a HS Reddit Admin if they want to use it.
EDIT: Reddit version has been taken down and will be replaced this weekend.
Put in any further recommendations in the comments below and I may add them to the main post.
Problem Sleuth - The MS Paint Adventure that Hussie completed before Homestuck. It's 1000 pages, and the only actually high effort adventure he made before his colossal webcomic.
Homestuck but in its original format
The Unofficial Homestuck Collection - This is the go to for all original Homestuck content. They reworked all the flashes so you can see them in their original crisp HD rather than compressed Youtube or the really awful VIZ flashes. Also has the in-comic videogames as they originally were!!!
Contains lost music and other media by the original teams that worked on Homestuck. Look at it, it's worth your time, especially if you want to do a reread.
Homestuck.net is a fandom archive of all sorts of HS stuff, full of official resources and fan content and lost Homestuck media.
Followup material
The Homestuck Epilogues - "Post-canon" splinter that takes place after the main timeline. Written by members of WhatPumpkin. Be warned - this is not a serious work and if you expect it to be an amazing sequel to Homestuck, you'll be disappointed. It's also, rightfully, got a million content warnings.
Homestuck^2: Beyond Canon - Comic sequel to the Homestuck Epilogues. Was put on indefinite hiatus last year.
Homestuck Patreon Content - There was some content posted on the Homestuck Patreon which is available on homestuck.net.
Supplementary official content
Paradox space - A bunch of comics made by creators like KC Green and Zack Morrison which were posted 3-5 times a week between 13th April 2014 and 13th April 2015. Comes in hardback, but is out of print and extremely pricey to get second hand.
Vrisky 8usiness - A comic about Vriska getting her robot arm by Andrew Hussie that was only posted in the hardback version of Paradox Space 2, which is now too overpriced to buy.
The VIZ Collection - VIZ Media printed books of Homestuck acts 1-5 (finishing a little before Cascade) which contains page-by-page commentary from Andrew Hussie.
The VIZ Collection Commentary - if you just want the commentary from Hussie and don't want to shell £300 on books.
Homestuck 2.0 - Was originally going to be a Youtube video series hosted by Dante Basco. Was cancelled abruptly before it took off, but this video is still fun to watch. "Step on my neck tadpole mom!"
Video games
Hiveswap - A point-and-click visual novel which follows Joey Claire, the neglected daughter of Grandpa Harley, as she finds herself in Alternia long before the events of Sburb. A prequel to Homestuck which has 2 parts right now and is unfortunately on hold again.
Friendsim - A "friendship" simulator where you play as MSPA Reader and meet all the trolls from Hiveswap act 2, perhaps having some timeline fuckery and existential crises along the way. Can be played separately from reading epilogues/HS^2.
Pesterquest - A followup to Friendsim where you befriend the main 20 kids from Homestuck itself. WARNING: This one does contain HS Epilogue and HS^2 spoilers.
Official Music
Official Bandcamp - Official way to buy high quality HS Music. Used to have the albums split up properly, was condensed some time after the VIZ Takeover for unknown reasons.
The Unofficial Homestuck Collection - Once again this contains all of the music.
Unofficial Team Music
The Baby is You - Toby Fox creates something utterly insane.
STRIIFE/Strife 2 - Unofficial Homestuck album by former Homestuck musician Tensei
Let me know if any more exists outside of LOFAM.
The Homestuck Fan Musicians/Land of Fans and Music
The LOFAM collection - Dozens of albums and hundreds of songs. The four LOFAM albums are of their highest quality. LOFAM was a major recruitment pool for the official Homestuck music team. You should absolutely give it a listen, especially their latest major release, LOFAM 4.
Cool and New Music Team - A collection of shitposty music made to honor the SBAHJ-style fan story Cool and New Webcomic. Some of it is actually good.
"Let's Read Homestuck" - Voice acted video version of Homestuck
VOXUS/Let's Read Homestuck - Currently ends at some point before the Retcon. Still ongoing. Fully voice acted with different actors for each character, as well as tons of effort to make it entertaining to watch.
Some significant fan content
[s] Rex Duodecim Angulus - An epic 8-minute collaborative fan animation of the Trolls defeating their Black King.
A Brief History of Homestuck - 2 hour long video by Sarah Z explaining the massive fan hype of Homestuck, its history over the past 12 years, and some investigative work into what happened with Hiveswap.
Homestuck Sent Me a Legal Threat, and Then it Got Worse - The followup video where Sarah does further investigation into WhatPumpkin's downfall after they threatened to sue her for the first video.
You can't fight the Homestuck - A Rite of Passage.
Octopimp Collection - Octopimp was a Homestuck fan who voice acted a bunch of fan comics drawn by other artists. It's old as hell, but very fun.
Karkalicious - A short, absolutely legendary video where Karkat sings about how much people want to suck his dick. You're welcome.
Cool and New Webcomic - A shitpost version of Homestuck, with many twists and turns. Has many flashes, a dedicated fanbase and tons of fan music.
Act Omega - A fan continuation diverging just after act 7 which uses flash animations. Notable for its high quality art.
Double Death of the Author- A fan continuation diverging just after John does the Windy Thing. A fix-it fic by someone who didn't like the retcon. Notable for being, well, complete.
A 143 page fan comic of Hiveswap act 2 made for the Hiveswap Comics Contest.
Fan Communities
The Homestuck Discord - a 20,000 member discord full of Homestuck fans.
MS Paint Fan Adventures - a website where you can make your own Homestuck fanventures, which has thousands and thousands of fanstories on it!
And that's it for now.

Readthrough 2, Day 1: John Homestuck
Tumblr media
Here we are again, April 13th.
I’m going to try, as much as I can, not to repeat myself in this liveblog, so if you haven’t already read my first liveblog, you’ll still likely be able to get something out of it if you are picking up with me on my second liveblog!
Time in Homestuck is extremely flexible, in keeping with the demands of a Narrative-first reality, and of course, the very first idea that we’re introduced to in the setting is this sort of reverse-causality situation, where John is not named until his 13th birthday, but has paradoxically always been John, much in the same way that Prospit and Derse and the Medium are all created at the moment a session begins, but have paradoxically always existed.
Tumblr media
I have said this before, I’ll say it again: I really like this format for introductions, and I love the way that these introductions are structured. A big part of the reason Homestuck characters end up feeling kind of like real people, is that they are interested in lame stuff.
Tumblr media
Abstract Behavioral Medium, now there’s a humdinger of a phrase. Abstraction is a recurring motif in Homestuck, what with the different levels of detail in drawing. Sprite Mode, which we’ve got here, is the base level of abstraction for people who exist in Homestuck, it seems. Hero Mode, which becomes prominent in Act 5 and Act 6, is a level of abstraction up from that, and “Hussnasty” I think is the term for the level of abstraction up from that.
Being abstracted in Homestuck is associated with being dominated, under someone else’s thumb, subject to their will - Doc Scratch dominates Damara by abstracting her away from Hero Mode, and into Sprite Mode for example - and is also associated with a lower level of fidelity, authenticity, and “realness” - Hero Mode often becomes more prominent as the story becomes more serious, with more abstracted drawing styles associated with more comical, and less serious moments in general.
Sprite Mode as the base layer of abstraction suggests a level of cognitive distance between John and his reality, a feeling of haplessness, unseriousness, and lack of control. He is an abstraction of himself, layers removed from the Real Thing. It takes adventures that render him in Hero Mode and higher levels of fidelity to render him “More Authentic” - so maybe John’s idea of the real life is one of high stakes conflict. That fits with the cultural expectations of masculinity that HS is generally kind of interested in.
Tumblr media
I told myself I was going to watch some of the Homestuck Reference Movies in between my last reread and this one, and I did not do so. Maybe I should watch the movies PARALLEL to my Homestuck Readings, see what’s up with them.
Tumblr media
Homestuck has some interesting things to say about Race, but I’m not the most qualified to talk about it. I’ll talk when I think I actually have some interesting things to say, but I’m not as educated on it as I would like to be, and/or educating myself as much as I can, so I’m not going to talk about it at length unless I have something really interesting to say.
That said, I can also provide references: @mmmmalo’s stuff about race is really good, and I might reblog some of it later. For now, if you want to peruse what they have to say about blackness, here is the link to the tag: https://mmmmalo.tumblr.com/tagged/race%20mapping/page/2
In any case, it’s interesting to see that the first Black President is referenced so early within Homestuck, especially considering its weird relationship with Obama, and in particular, Dave’s fascination with Obama. I think I’ll revisit my thoughts about Black People in Homestuck when we get to Her Imperious Condescension.
Tumblr media
A monocle is a signifier that points to someone being a proper gentleman - wearing a monocle is part of the performance of gentlemanliness (much like cologne and aftershave are signifiers of dadliness, and part of the performance of dadliness).
Tumblr media
The keyword abstraction appears again, ersatz, in the phrase Kind Abstratus. These kinds suggest that a big part of Abstraction is in Definition - in labeling things, watering them down to a set of easily identifiable characteristics so that they can be sorted into categories, distinct from each other.
Tumblr media
American Cool Culture is really interesting to me, because like, if you look at the history of cool, it’s almost all African-American in origin, which is appropriate, since apparently the history of the concept begins in Africa, and only enters European culture with the Trans-atlantic Slave Trade.
In my last liveblog, I talked a little about how Dave Strider is kind of a poser, and I interpret him as a white-coded character who is adopting black mannerisms - peppering his dialogue with out of date AAVE, for example, which is probably reflective of Andrew’s understanding of it as well. As long as I’m thinking about Race in Homestuck though, it’s interesting to think of the Bros of Homestuck as white guys knowingly or unknowingly appropriating blackness.
Tumblr media
I am almost certainly not the first person to note the resemblance between the present and the perfectly generic object, or rather that the Perfectly Generic Object is like the present - containing we know not what, but certainly something incredibly desirable, absent of features until it is opened.
I wonder if that tags Roxy, whose introduction to John is being buried under a pile of PGOs as being the Bunny - the gift inside the box. But John is also the bunny.
Makes me think of the Theosophic Notion that God created androgynous souls, which were then split into male and female, such that soulmates are people whose souls are the masculine and feminine halves of the original androgynous soul, such that the Bunny is a symbol of John, but also a symbol of John’s love interest - he names her Liv, after all, because of his celebrity crush on the disaster movie female romantic lead from Armageddon - so John and Roxy are As One.
Tumblr media
Odd place to bring this up, but the use of the word Artifact to describe all the sundries that can be picked up and put in cards is interesting to me, and seems tied to the theme of abstraction we’ve got going here in the first act. Artifacts are the leftovers of bygone things - and since Homestuck is an end of the world story, of course, all of these items are artifacts in that sense.
But it also reminds me of the word artifact as in Compression Artifacts - the infidelities and ugliness produced by the compression of a picture into a smaller format for easier storage.
Tumblr media
While John isn’t into Chick Flicks, the adventure movies that he’s into almost all have the romantic dynamic in them anyway. Karkat replicates and exaggerates John’s sublimated interest in Romcoms. What’s interesting about chick flicks, rom coms, is that while they’re nominally for women, almost all of them are written by men, men’s idea of what women are interested in, men’s idea of women, and their relationships with men.
Tumblr media
The Strider’s relationship with the concept of ironic enjoyment recalls something I read recently, I can’t remember the reference, but it was about how Irony is inherently destructive, or at least, non-constructive, it can only criticize non-constructively.
While the Striders, and more to the point, Bro, may get enjoyment out of derogating things, even in a multi-layered way, this derogation ultimately doesn’t produce anything new, and the ironic enjoyment is usually just a cloak to mask genuine enjoyment.
Tumblr media
While only ~ath gets any user throughout the comic, the other books also have cheeky pun titles that I only caught on literally this readthrough, because I glossed over them every other time. Dis* (Disasterisk), ^Cake (Carat/Carrot Cake).
Tumblr media
Homestuck’s meteors are of course, couched in reference to Armageddon and Deep Impact specifically, but to American Disaster Movies more generally. Disaster Movies seem to be kind of a phenomenon tied to both Anthopogenic Natural Disaster - Climate Change, and pollution of the environment - and in some ways emerged because of the world status quo in which America was the global hegemon with no real contenders. There stopped being a lot of new disaster movies as soon as 9/11 happened. Strangely Homestuck, is almost completely uninterested in the War on Terror though, in spite of the ways in which it’s otherwise aggressively contemporary, and the preoccupation with the apocalypse, and disaster movies, might give a hint that, at least in this one respect, Homestuck is actually stuck about ten years in the past - a strange and achronistic blend of the late 90s, just a moment before that world DID end and the late thousands, with all the early Obama-Era stuff that implies.
That’s about all I got in me for tonight. Tomorrow, we’ll pick up at Rose’s introduction.

My media this week (21-27 Nov 2021)
Tumblr media
📚 STUFF I READ 📚
😊 Hale’s Modern Encyclopedia of Playing Cards (and Dating Humans) (thepsychicclam) - 49K, Sterek, full HS AU
😊 Love That Journey for Me: The Queer Revolution of Schitt’s Creek (Emily Garside) - a short collection of essays about Schitt’s Creek
🙂 Anne of Ingleside (Anne of Green Gables #6) (L.M. Montgomery, author; Barbara Barnes, narrator) - it did warm my completionist heart to bring the series to a close. I absolutely did love that they had a giant cat they named The Shrimp. And I was left a little breathless at the very end by the casually dropped info that Anne’s 2nd son will die in WWI.
😊 The Rowdy Renegade (The Adventures of Nick & Carter #3) (Frank W. Butterfield) - I just continue to love watching Nick & Carter progress through the years
😍 The Compact (astolat) - 64K, HP - loved this expanded worldbuilding Arthurian transformation with political marriage and ambiguous choices
🙂 Cited to Death (Jamie Brodie Mystery #1) (Meg Perry) - perfectly satisfying cozy; I like that it’s queer and protagonist is an academic librarian; there’s the usual amount of background copaganda so ymmv
😊 The Wolf and the Sparrow (Isabelle Adler) - arranged marriage tropetastic romance fantasy
💖 +193K of shorter fic so shorter work shout out 💖
Bumpkin (bibliosexual) - Schitt’s Creek: Patrick x David, 2K - suuuuuper cute first meeting AU
Everything About It Is a Love Song (pocky_slash) - X-Men: Erik x Charles, 19K - Erik turns 79 and finally decides to retire with Charles to a small town in upstate NY and it’s both wonderful and takes a lot of adjustment. The series is called Old Retired Dudes and it’s delightful and feels very real.
Ten Kinds of Grateful (Speranza) - MCU: Stucky, 3K - a 4 Minute Window Thanksgiving fic. I legit got teary when I saw the notification for this.
The Courtship of Mr. Bond (marlowe_tops) - James Bond: 00Q, 29K - reread; I just love this very loose P&P/Regency AU
[Podfic] So Loud & So Clear (quietnight) - MCU: Stucky, 3 hrs - great podfic of a great fic
[Podfic] sneeze disease (quietnight) - MCU: Stucky, ~45 min - absolutely love this hilarious so very married fic

hm reading??
hm so like re: this and reading some other stuff thats like homestuck epilogues/2 critical (being super slow compared to hs, being depressing, making all the characters become assholes for like no reason (hs2 crit stuff in the later half of this vid, about 30 or 40 minutes in i think??), the creators being uh not the best people, etc.), plus my own slow experience with trying to read through the incredible boring long winded sloughs that were the epilogues meat and candy when they first came out uhh
i think that i’ll skip on finishing the epilogues/hs^2 since they honestly sound. so. boring.
like.
we as an entire internet culture are just so sick and tired of when beloved media from our childhood get some weird reboot but its dark and gritty and edgy on purpose. for example the entire cw reboot joke meme that applies to riverdale/archie comics, the winx club netflix show, and now powerpuff girls, but the girls are “adults who are depressed and hate their childhood heroics” or whatever is even happening with that show right now since its still technically in production lol.
and you know what. epilogues/hs2 sounds like its the dumb cw reboot.
so.
i think ill stick to the games (friendsim/hiveswap/pesterquest), already existing better written fanfic and fan works/adventures that feature original characters and canon characters doing. not riverdale stuff. so yeah.
for fan adventures, i’m planning to read these:
Vast Error (https://mspfa.com/?s=2302)
OasisQuest (https://mspfa.com/?s=29685&p=1)
Homestuck: Act Omega (https://mspfa.com/?s=16414&p=1)
Cool and new web comic (https://mspfa.com/?s=14113&p=1)
Alabaster: The Doomed Session (https://mspfa.com/?s=236&p=1)
Act 8 (https://mspfa.com/?s=14278&p=1)
Karkat goes to a convention (https://mspfa.com/?s=27317&p=1)
Hackbent (https://mspfa.com/?s=2810&p=1)
TLCstruck: Double Death of the Author (https://mspfa.com/?s=2810&p=1)
for fanfic hmm. i’ll probably reread stuff and then move to try to find other things lol. and like all the stuff directly listed here are things that i’ve personally read before except LoDaD and the general big tvtropes list so like yes i like these i approve of them i have read them in my lifetime at some point and you should also try them lol.
honestly i’m currently re-reading the classic crossover between hs and alien nation, which is an interesting movie that you should watch even if its a dumb 90′s movie that isnt the best lol. while its technically not finished/hasnt been updated since 2014, honestly the endings of all of them are good enough to be like “yeah i could stop here” so eh. i will warn that the fics, from 2012-2014 era, have the r-slur in them, which is cringy and unfortunate. :/
maybe i’ll finally finish the land of dungeons and dragons, by the same person as above, which is like 600K words and 173 chapters.
there’s straw soldiers, which is great. i remember waiting for the final chapter update and it literally dropped when i was in the middle of science class in high school lol. alternia decides to have trolls undergo surgery/learning/etc. to be spies on earth preparing for an alternian invasion. karkat is one of them.
terawatt outlaws is incredible. where sollux is discovered and taken by the condesce to power her ship, sollux meets his ancestor the psiioniic/ancient beta universe mituna captor, and they team up and start a revolution.
a lullaby for the gods starts out as a fluffy found family crack crossover between homestuck and the avengers, and a plot starts forming in later chapters. its still ongoing so you can binge read it but you’ll have to wait for an actual ending.
petstuck au where trolls are on earth but like. pets. (the og, the fanfic of a fanfic, and the fanfic of the 2 fanfics that got fic-married)
the parody game faqs/early 2000′s type walkthrough fic
cultstuck! - karkat is kinda raised/protected by the signless cult. also revolutions happen yay
we’re all doomed - hilarious doomed session where the kids and trolls decide to fix things as best as possible and live/chill together. kinda lol
the gods we once knew - a sadstuck one shot thats real good
honestly these are good lists for stuff really - fics and works

14. last thing googled: the distance between Lebanon KS and Canton OH, so yeah guys if you were wondering what I’m working on..
15. other blogs: technically? I have one ~aesthetic~ blog I made in HS when a) people actually used tumblr as a site to follow their real life friends and b) I DID NOT want most of my irl people to follow my fandom blog so
16. do i get asks: infrequently! but I welcome them all the time!
17. why i chose my url: because it was 2010 and I was in the throes of Doctor Who fandom. and medusacascade was taken, so. and i’m too indecisive to change it to something else. y’all out here changing urls at a whim, not me.

30. top three fictional universes: uh, I gotta say it y’all. Supernatural. Would I survive there? no, I am a woman and a bisexual. but it is my favorite. also the Dark Tower universe is also my favorite. I might survive there, but probs would die of radiation poisoning. and lastly, I’m gonna go with Middle Earth, but only if I can be a non-adventuring hobbit and just be barefoot and garden and get drunk all the time.
uh, idk, i’m in no way gonna be able to tag 20 people, so i’ll go with
@hepalien @casismymrdarcy @heller-jensen @beautifulsaladkitten and @disasterbisexualwinchester

HS^2 Bonus: The Influencers, Part 2
Time to read another bonus page!
Ooh, cool, the page has been organized a little better. Just like the adventures on homestuck.com, each bonus storyline now has it's own icon! I assume none will run too long for there to be a need for separate "plot" pages.
And it's The Influencers Part Two, next!
I assume they'll all choose to leave and not support the cover-up story that the school principal wants them to endorse.
But then what? I don't think the rebellion has a PR department they could join up with. Then again, maybe they can found it! :D And try turning public opinion around with it.
I mean, they're The Influencers, are they not? :P
Heheh, so the overview page is visible even for non-patreons. Well, it's good for giving them an idea of the subject matter AND an idea of how big one part of a story is.
> Page 12
Right, rereading page 10 reminded me how the kids didn't use the same text & clothes colour. In Homestuck, that's pretty dang confusing. :P
Let's see now, what will they do?
> Page 13
Well, those lines by Imode was at least more legible than when they flew off the handle there on page 10. :P
> Page 15
Hah, so okay, they all choose to fly. And like Teacher said, just in the nick of time.
> Page 16
Is that smoke from Vriska's escapades near Harry's house? Just how long were they held in that office? :P
And of course Crocker-controlled police and/or news agencies fly red helicopters. Unless those are (the human type of) drones, of course.
> Page 17
So Avril's a triathlete. Wonder what other hidden depths & skills the trio might have. Pffff, that bit about them being NPCs. True, but meta.
And Silas stopped catching her breath to check her phone, hahahahahah.
> Page 18
Nice, I don't think we saw John arriving at the tower in the main storyline. Pffff, nice to get this outsider perspective (literally and figuratively) on him and the lore about him on Earth. #wherearetheynow
So.... Did the trio get up there and link up with the other kids? Or did John send them off? Or were they not on time to do anything?
... What if they're able to help them escape from Jane's troops, "influencing" the plot in the process, but no-one on either side knew about it?
> Page 19
Either that tower is smaller than I would have thought, or that is a really big pasture. :P
Now Avril is feeling the pull of relevance too! Let's see how it takes for Silas.
> Page 20
Hahah! Their relevance to the plot will amount to unlocking the door for Harry & the rest! Feeling kind of bad for Imode though, if she really didn't link up with her friend Harry afterwards...
> Page 21
Hah, so yeah, a lot of stuff in the kingdom is probably alchemized, and therefore there's a lot of carbon copies of everything. Including locks.
At least, that's how I explain what Avril says here. :P He basically has a master key to public maintenance infrastructure.
> Page 22
Pffff. Mission complete. Time for them to merge back into obscurity. Basically, this whole story was made to fill what people might have considered a plothole.
That's some Star Wars Legends-level kind of story right there.
> Page 23
Oooh! So this is the end of this part but NOT the end of the storyline. A bit surprised if I'm honest. :P
