Tumblr media
"So, what did you say this was called?" Looking over the strange object, wondering why it seemed so familiar to her. It seemed like old technology, yet... She couldn't quite place where she might have seen it before. Especially since her memories of her life before in Octo Valley were fuzzy.
Tako was doing her best to be careful with the flat disc, gasping softly when the light reflected across its surface in a brilliant rainbow. Her finger slid along the rim, then poked through the center hole. It was so light she could spin it around her knuckle, earning a giggle of amusement.
"It's so pretty. Maybe 4 will let me hang them in the window of our... apartment. Make the rainbow on the floor."

A New Home Ch. 16
Various! Splatoon manga x Skilled! Isekai'd! Reader
Wc: 1.3k
Back to the start! Previous Next
Tumblr media
“Hey, hey, look!”
You barely have time to breathe after walking through the door of your new home before Leo’s shoving his phone in your face.
He kept moving it around, making it impossible to read the screen.
“We got invited to a party! Starts at 6 tonight!”
Oh. people.
“Who’s all going?”
“Uhh, no idea who’s hosting it, but I heard it should be mostly strong players?”
Ugh, seriously? Those are usually the worst people to be around. Most of them are so stuck-up and arrogant. Well, you suppose that if it’s just a bunch of randos, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to maybe find some new opponents. Your team could always use new sacrifices to test out new techniques in battle. And you won’t have to feel bad about it, with how their personalities usually are. Putting them in their places is always so fun.
You let out a small sigh, and agree to going - not like he was really offering since the beginning. As long as Milo, Tasha and him are going, you should be fine, right?
˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*
Wrong.
It’s now 6:08, and it’s so damn loud. The songs may be decent, almost like a 2010’s party mix is what you could best compare it to, but it shook the whole house. You weren’t expecting this many people, either. The lights are off, but there are tons of colored party lights and even a disco ball.
(Optional song.)
You grabbed Milo’s hand to ground yourself, and he held yours comfortably tight, rubbing his thumb against your knuckles soothingly. There wasn’t much else he could do, but you appreciated his effort. Though, it didn’t help all that much. It’s hard to get distracted and grounded when the source of your uncomfortableness is making its way through all of your senses. At least there was one that you could control, and that was food.
You squeezed your way through the crowd, making your way over to the snack area to find something you liked. Holy carp, that’s a lot of food. You grab one of the paper plates and throw on some stuff that you like, grabbing one of the canned drinks to wash the food down.
Wait, where’s Milo?
You begin to look around nervously, he shouldn’t be that hard to spot, being as tall as he is. Same goes for Tasha. Though Leo’s completely lost in the crowd, no luck finding him unless he decides to make a scene. Which isn’t unlikely.
You can’t search by color, since the lights are all weird, so you look for shape instead. You spot a quick reflection of light right around where his face height would be, then you see his spiky hair.
‘Okay, good. He’s right there. This is fine.’
As long as you know that you can spot him at any time, that eases your nerves. You hold the cold can in your hand tightly, taking a deep breath in.
Yeah, this isn’t your type of thing. You manage to push through and talk to a couple of people that approach you, and you quietly sing to some of your favorite songs once you get a little more comfortable. Anarchy Rainbow, Bomb Rush Blush, and Callimari Inkantation, to name a few. They had a lot of nice, upbeat tunes. But, as expected, it starts to feel way too loud again, and this time you try to find a way out. You need to escape, even just for a bit, before you start to feel too overwhelmed again.
You climb up the stairs to the second floor, and notice that the sound is definitely more drowned out up here. You open a couple of doors, trying to find the washroom. You mostly just find a couple of spare rooms with beds. One of the rooms was completely decked out with Dj-like stuff on the walls, but it seems the kit was missing. Guess that’s what they’re using downstairs.
You open another door and, man, this is nowhere near anything you could have ever expected.
Four cephalopods stare back at you. There’s one sitting on a beanbag chair, in front of a tv, playing some video game. Squid Racer, you’d recognize the characters and OST any day with how often Leo likes to play. There’s another at a table, who’s writing down in his manual. The third is sitting near the tv, with a lollipop in hand. You could have guessed that he was watching the other one play Squid Racer just before you walked in. The last one is now right in front of you.
“Hey, sweetheart! You did get my message! I’m glad you came~I was afraid you wouldn’t show,” He throws on a fake pout, but quickly replaces it with a friendly smile, “What brings you up here?”
“Leo showed me the invite, I had no idea you were the one throwing the party. Should have guessed, though.” You avoid the last question, not wanting to seem weak in front of such strong players.
“Aw, not happy to see me?”
“Nono, I am, I just wasn’t expecting to find you guys here, is all!” You wave your hands dismissively, trying to prove your point. You can’t look at them directly, this is way too much to handle right now.
He gently puts a hand on your upper back, in a way that silently asks if you’re okay with it. You allow it, and he brings you into the room and closes the door. You immediately take note of how much quieter it is in this room specifically, it’s almost like this room is made for this.
“Ya wanna stay in here for a bit? Parties can get pretty loud and overwhelming, I get it.”
Of course. Of course, somebody of this skill level would see right through you, you should have expected that.
You let the smile drop from your face for a second, and slump down to the ground to relax. The coldness of the ground feels so nice, this is exactly what you needed.
“Thanks ‘loha. Seriously, I mean it.”
He doesn’t question the nickname, he must have misheard you. He’s a little surprised at how casual you seem, but it might just be because of how you’re feeling.
“ ‘Course! Where are your teammates? They ditch ya? I’ll kick their-”
“No, no, they’re having fun. They were all hanging out with other people, making friends n stuff - hopefully, - and I don’t wanna ruin that for them.”
“They’re terrible teammates if they don’t help you out when you’re in need of it.”
“Nah, my teammates are awesome and would do anything for each other. …That’s exactly it, though, I want them to enjoy themselves and not have to worry about me.”
You wonder if maybe there is something bigger than this, another reason at the back of your mind. Do you not want to seem weak? You shake your head,
“I wasn’t doing too bad, I got away before it started to really suck.” You get up, dusting yourself off, then go sit next to Skull on the couch. Not right next to him, obviously, but there’s a comfortable distance.
“As long as you’re feelin’ better.”
Mask finally finishes his round, and he leaves the in-game lobby. You tilt your head in curiosity, wondering why he’s leaving. There’s no way in sub-weapon hell that he’s going to actually join the party, you know that for a fact.
Instead, he looks back at you, then gestures to the beanbag chair a little farther off in the corner. You clue in, and go grab the chair, and set up next to him. He’s already grabbed the second controller, and waits for you to get comfortable before handing it over.
“Hope you knoooow I’m not going eaaaasy on you.”
“Better not, ‘cause kicking your ass won’t feel as good.”
You shoot him a playful smirk, and you let the round begin.
This is so much better than being downstairs.

SPLATOON OC TOURNEY ROUND 2 BATTLE 29
Kelsie by @rosegolddoodle252 vs Sodden Roe by @azazel-the-fifth
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OC PROPAGANDA/BACKSTORY
KELSIE
she started out as a mechanic/engineer for the octarian army before escaping about a year after splatoon 1's story. When she gets back to the surface she goes to inkblot as an art student and rooms with what she eventually remembers as her bestie from the dorms (Zoey, she's a theater major) They are dating and cool :)
SODDEN ROE
little octoling solider that was assigned as an Electric Eel Sniper who heard the calamari inkantation, decided “this sucks im leaving”, got into a fight with agent 3 and cuttlefish and immediately got messed up and ended up in the metro. did all that deepsea metro stuff, but upon being almost blended, looked up for a little too long and got the lower half of their face and tentacles chopped with the blades to the horror of cuttlefish and off the hook, where they took the sludge and tried to stick it back on and it kinda worked? They then removed one of their sleeves in a painstaking process and fashioned it into a mask with one of the blades. After escaping, off the hook tried to offer some better clothing but they booked it before Pearl and Marina could give them any, and started lurking around the metro entrance in inkopolis square and was found by an inkling named Sulip who crawled out of a grate wearing cool yellow clothes who they immediately scared by being freakishly tall (6’8”!) and allowed to live in their house by being so pathetic at that time. Off the hook visited sometimes, Sulip comforted after Sodden had nightmares sometimes pearl helped, small details. Then Sodden left for a really long time after notifying Pearl, Marina, and Sulip, and in that time transition, returning with a fish named Timothy and a cool new haircut. Sulip and Sodden moved to Splatsville where they both saw some old guy Sodden recognised hanging out in some sewer grate looking thing where he said he’d go check it out and come right back, and then disappeared for a week doing the Splatoon 3 Hero Mode stuff worrying Sulip so bad, and then was driven home by the squid sisters because he cannot drive at all which Sulip took so casually, they both went to a little agent meeting where Cuttlefish does not recognise Sodden as agent 8 and also does not know he transitioned but after explaining from marie, Cuttlefish tries his best. Sodden and Sulip go to visit Pearl and Marina, them saying they’ll catch up with him. Sodden proceeds to crash his bike and wake up in Very Bleached Coral Inkopolis Square.

Moriah and Acryl are my ARMS OCs :3
image id in alt text
spring man, ninjara, ribbon girl, and min min are a team. moriah, acryl, mechanica, and springtron are also a team :)
thisi s hopefully part 1 of many but if its not what can i do right.
REBLOGS >>>> LIKES
slight lore under the cut
spring man: splatlands-raised octoling, literally just some guy. likes turf war and ranked but stays a little away from salmon run. The populace likes him. Light tetras main but likes zipcaster (Flying cackling freak)
ninjara: inkopolis-raised inkling. Current college student but not at inkblot (ninja squid college...). Likes ranked a lot more than turf and sometimes dabbles in slamon run. Cracked with the e-liter at this point he could just explode people with his mind. Sometimes goes with the bamboozler to tone it down but not any worse for it.
ribbon girl: inkopolis-raised inkling, ex-idol and better for it. does a lot of turf and has a lot of hobbies aside from that too. Applying to inkblot art academy (Still in high school). talks to the employees at the stores (gnarly eddy, harmony, etc) a lot. mains any deco weapon.
min min: splatlands-raised inkling, works at squintendo noodle house or some shit but turfs and does ranked on the side. not averse to salmon run. mains range blaster but generally likes the heavier weapons that she can get the hang of.
spring man and ninjara were a mini-team and so were ribbon girl and min min, they joined together after a few really good games.
mechanica: coconut octopus octoling raised in the splatlands. her mom was an ex-octarian soldier who defected for non-calamari inkantation reasons. her dad is a normal guy. She works at ammo knights part-time repairing weapons (her favorite pastime) and although she stays away from salmon run herself she is ITCHING to see how the grizzco weapons work
acryl (ARMS oc): inkblot art academy graduate, inkopolis-raised inkling. does turf and ranked and salmon run for money because comms aren't enough. the economy is in squambles :( also has a part-time at a flower shop with another oc of mine. lives with moriah. octobrush main forever and ever. flying cackling freak
moriah (ARMS oc): splatlands-born, inkopolis-raised inkling, also an inkblot art academy graduate. he's trying to make his own fashion brand, but for the moment he's a waiter at a restaurant and does ranked and salmon run on the side to pay rent. lives with acryl. hydra main :)
springtron: origins unknown, octoling. possibly sanitized but doesn't quite look it. de-sanitized? somehow? people don't know and people don't ask either because he's too intimidating. before joining mechanica/acryl/moriah's team he was cracked at ranked and everyone was freaked out by him. very competitive, does not often do turf, but gets very exhausted after battling, so he doesn't have many hobbies. Dark tetra dualies main, and Clash blaster when he's in a bad mood.

Operation Atlantis Notes - "Sango" (Chapter 8)
Chapter 8! We're only 2 chapters away from the end of part 1 guys, can you believe it? The end of part 1 is in 2 chapters! Woohoo! I am so happy about this information. The end of part 1! Just two chapters away, oh wo—
So, this chapter was pretty fun to write. I finally feel like I'm starting to hit my stride with these, so hopefully that means I can get them out faster (or not, because Side Order busted into my house and gave me a million plot ideas because of course it did). As you probably know from reading the chapter, this one is another transition (like last chapter... and chapter 6... and chapter 4). Aka, there's a hefty chunk of filler and not much major plot stuff going on, but hey. You need build up for plot points to actually work. And besides, it's pretty fun.
Something I really enjoyed about this chapter compared to the similar ones I've written, though, is the foreshadowing. As you probably could've guessed, there's some big and juicy stuff coming up in Chapter 9. Look forward to that whenever it comes out (which may be a while because again, Side Order busted into my house with a million plot ideas).
Opening poem: I like this one. It's pretty simple, and sweet. The flower metaphor also works well with later in the chapter. Not much to say about this one, it's just about Eight's journey as a whole and not anything specific.
The Interview: Oh look, it's Lila again. Not much to say about this particular scene. As you could've guessed, I really like reusing characters when I can because it gives more depth and dimension to them instead of them only appearing like, in one specific set of circumstances. Giving them different opinions helps too! Anyways, onto something more substantial.
Eight, Three, and the Calamari Inkantation: Oh no, it's my greatest weakness—cute agent 24 scenes! So yeah, I love this scene. Eight and Three are so absurdly, astronomically different from each other, and yet here they are, connecting over a simple song. The symbolism of the Inkantation in general is something I really love, because art really does hold the power to connect people. You guys are all connected to me through this fic, after all! Three singing it isn't only just about giving Eight the rest of the lyrics, it's an expression of vulnerability. Three is self-conscious about her singing, but she sings it anyways. Why? Because she wants to connect with Eight. And at the end of the day, what is connection but not continued moments of mutual vulnerability?
Turfing!: Woot woot, it's Three beating people up time! Fun fact, I wrote part of this scene in my crowded high school cafeteria. You think I would learn from this mistake, but I'm typing this right now in my crowded high school cafeteria. Anyways, I thought incorporating Three's confusion about Splatoon 2 mechanics added a little spice to this scene. Also, I had to reference the orange-blue color palette just because. You know, because it's the classic colors of the first game, and because of Inner Agent 3... I'm sure the latter won't be relevant later :).
Investigating at the Library: These were a sweet couple of scenes to write. I love Iso Padre, especially when he shows his caring side. I imagine his hugs are very pleasant due to having multiple arms. Anyways, it was interesting to write Eight's reaction learning about Inkling-Octarian history. Because she doesn't remember it, she really doesn't empathize with it in the way she should. The way I see it, it's like learning about history that happened before you were born versus what you actually remember. Broad overviews of history are essential to get the context, but you can only understand the emotions through more specific accounts.
The Void of Eight's Past: Okay, this isn't a scene technically, but a paragraph, but I wanted to highlight (it's right at the end of the library scene, and begins with "Eight grabbed it."). And well, that's because my beta really liked it, and looking back on it, I do as well. There's a sort of horror to Eight's amnesia that I've seen crop up in several fics—this idea of not knowing who you are, of your memories, which are everything that makes you you, being stripped from you. I absolutely adore it, and I wanted to explore it here. My beta also told me that's how they feel being mixed sometimes, which I think is pretty cool! I'm not so I didn't necessarily write it with that in mind, but I'm glad they connected with that! Overall, I think it shows how we're more similar than different... that kinda got off topic.
Fates and Daffodils: One of my favorite things about the market scene was inserting my Octarian headcanons, particularly about the Fates. I really like the concept of the three of them and I can't wait to weave their symbolism into the rest of the fic. With Haisho, who represents growth, I felt it fitting to tie her to plants. Flowers in particular are connected to her because their blooms represent the beauty that can come from growth. With that in mind, of course I had to put in some flower symbolism. As mentioned in the fic, daffodils are one of the first flowers of spring—which for Eight, represents the beginning of her healing after the "winter" of losing her memories. What will happen next? Who knows.
Selfie at Central Park: This scene. THIS SCENE!!! I'm gonna be real with you guys, this is one of my favorite scenes of Eight and Three interacting that I've written so far. There's just something so tender and vulnerable about it, but at the same time, withdrawn. It strikes a great balance, I think, of both the vulnerability and awkwardness present in Three and Eight's relationship at this time. They're both starting to see each other in a different life—Three is starting to see Eight as more than a generic enemy of her people (and maybe even a friend shhh), and Eight is realizing that despite how she acts sometimes, Three is ultimately not as scary as Eight thinks them. The selfie, in fact, not only serves as a release of tension, but also a form of symbolism. This is one of the first times Three and Eight truly connect... what will mean in the future?
Mundane (Or Ominous) News?: Not much to say about this scene other than it will be probably be a fun one to reread once chapter 9 comes out. Yeah, it's foreshadowing. What could it mean? Who knows? (I know). I really love playing up the kinda unsettling imagery surrounding Eight's memory loss, so I'm glad I got to put that here.
And there you go, that's chapter 8! As you probably could've guessed, chapter 9 is a big one. It's the penultimate chapter of part 1, after all, so it makes sense. I'm really looking forward to writing it! However... Side Order busted into my house and gave me fic ideas, because of course we can't have nice things. Look, I absolutely love alternate realities that affect people not physically but psychologically (is a Persona fan) okay! Of course I came up with plot ideas. The main one I have in mind is Monochrome Malaise, which is sorta-rewrite that fixes some issues I had with Side Order. It's very fun and I can't wait to get into writing it! However, I also really want to get part 1 of this thing finally fully OUT and I can't do that working on an entirely separate project, so... Yeah. Who knows what'll do. Whatever happens, I'll let you guys know. No matter how long we go between updates, I'll never abandon this fic!

Thought up a few interesting things for the Squid Memes AU
1- Desti was an Elite Octoling back during Splatoon 1, and she and her squad (the three other Octolings that would go on to become the Octoposse) were among those who defected after the battle. Though interestingly, she didn't actually hear Calamari Inkantation like the other defectors, seeing as she was recovering from injuries she sustained fighting Agent 3 and thus wasn't present for the battle/concert. She just found out that her teammates were running away and was like "not without me you're not."
She's fully aware that Paige is Agent 3 (once she finally runs into them on the surface at least) and thinks it's honestly kind of funny that the so-called "Scourge of the Domes" was a freaking kid when they tore through the place, and that of all the people she could've gotten into a rivalry with it of course just had to be 3's big sister. She doesn't tell Meggy both because she's not about to out the kid like that and because it amuses her a little that Meggy doesn't know.
2- Axol and Pearl have been friends since they were kids, partly because I figure it would make sense if the tiny angry rich girl who sings too loud and the otaku who figured out fucking magitech and built a pen that could bring his drawings to life because he was lonely got lumped in together as the Weird kids nobody likes. Plus Marina canonically reads manga so even if Pearl doesn't like anime stuff herself we know someone else liking it isn't a turnoff for her.
3- So for this one I'm also pulling from Spongebob Squarepants canon because I needed an explanation for Heavy Squid and all the other Squidwards we see.
Okay, so we've seen in a few episodes of Spongebob that there are a bunch of squids/octopi/whatever Squidward's meant to be that look almost exactly like him. Obviously there's Squilliam but there was also that town of Squidward lookalikes he moved to once. Well, in this that's because they're not Squids or Octopi, they're instead a fourth (yes, fourth. we count Salmonids in this house) type of Inkfish that I'm tentatively calling "Schnozlings." In terms of abilities they're sort of a halfway point between the playable Inkfish and Salmonids, where they can live underwater thanks to having the right kind of respiratory system and thick enough skin to not get splatted by the ink-eating microbes, while also having Swim forms (which unfortunately aren't microbe-resistant like their humanoid forms).
Their swim forms are round, with six tentacles that all look similar to the long tentacles of an Inkling's swim form, while their humanoid forms are...well...Squidward lookalikes. Complete with four "legs," no fingers, a long droopy nose (hence the name Schnozling) and in a few cases the ability to grow hair on their heads like a human. As a side-effect of their microbe-resistant thick skin, most of them don't have any way to display their ink color in humanoid form, while their Swim forms are color coded just like Inklings and Octolings.
(And yes this means I'll have to redesign Heavy Squid to look less like Heavy and more like Squidward. But still big and muscular because that's his Whole Thing.)

The tuning up of a soul, Chapter 7: Some things have to be left behind
“This… this is a tent!” she muttered, appreciating the simple ingenuity of the camouflage. Looking inside, the first thing that catched her eyes was the amount of light there was, and the way a lot of various reflective surfaces were placed to amplify it all through the whole place. After her eyes adjusted, she could finally see the ghost’s lair in its entirety, and the owner of the place crouched up, with her back against her, occupied in deciding what labeled box her modified blender would have fitted in best.
“Wow…”
“Oh! you are here!”
“What is this place?”
“My base of operations, and storage, and… home? if you can call it that. Also, sorry for the mess. I’m packing up a lot of things, just like you said I should.”
Pearl gave one more look around. The aforementioned mess could have easily competed with the one in her room, but the things that were currently displaced were completely different from the ones at home: lots and lots of boxes with labels, similar to those one would make when moving to another place, and several types of unknown machinery on the ground. Some of them seemed like torn apart appliances you would find in any house, and others of more complex and mysterious nature.
“Actually, now that you are here, could you help me with something?” Marina pointed to the boxes in front of her. “And watch for that plate on the ground, it’s a mechanical jumping platform I was working on. Please don’t touch it, it's still not properly calibrated, and I don’t want you to be painfully splatted on the ceiling.”
Following the advice, the inkling slowly reached the side near Marina, dodging all of the things that were on the ground.
“Ok, imagine this: if you had a blender that detects, separates, and ejects away the parts of a condiment that you are allergic to, In which one of these boxes would you put it? in the “Sanitary” box, or the “Food” one?”
Despite the absurd specificity of the question, Pearl gave her answer rather quickly. “Uhm… I'd say food? I don’t think it really matters, since it has both of them covered.”
“Sounds reasonable enough… but… oh man, why is this so hard!?”
Two troubled souls, bound together by fate, thanks to an Inkantation: Marina Ida, a deserter full of regrets that tries desperately to discover herself in the new world that is the surface, and Pearl Houzuki, a bratty rich kid who wants to prove to the world that money can’t buy talent. This is the story of how Pearl and Marina tuned each other's instruments, life, and souls up, ready to face the world, and let it Off The Hook!
Reblogs are always appreciated, and feedback is too.

also can u infodump about ur agents
hi i will but its kind of a lot. Putting a break on this cause its long
Alister's a chill but still serious guy. He used to play turf war and ranked a ton as a kid while also working as agent 3 for the new squidbeak splatoon. His parents are missing. Cuttlefish took care of him cause of that, kinda treated him like a grandson. He almost outranked callie and marie in terms of skill before he was partially sanitized. He's a bit bad at taking care of himself. The only medication he's willing to take is his antidepressants. He loves the squid sisters and has so much merch of them, mainly from his youth. He has no fashion sense and will walk out of the house in the worst outfit you've ever seen thinking he did ok. He renamed the nss to neo squidbeak splatoon when he was promoted to captain. He loves his boyfriend josh a lot, ignore the fact they tried to kill each other in their first encounter. They live together.
Zara is cheerful and seemingly confident. But she thinks of herself as a fraud and is worried about people finding that out. She's good at her job as agent 4 and more but she focuses on her mistakes a lot. She is really good at building and using computers and the like. Her laptop is enhanced by octarian technology, she has reverse-engineered it. She prefers making friends more than splatting enemies, but knows when she needs to stop being friendly. She used to have a celebrity crush on Pearl and Marina when she was young. It didn't stick but she still loves the two. She has worked with them and still does as a social media manager. She is a lot less involved in agent work than she was as a kid due to her job + being with her girlfriend but she still loves it.
Josh is really mysterious, but still very talkative and nice. He has a lot of repressed memories. He's glad he can't remember some of them. He used to be a trainee in the octarian military. The calamari inkantation changed his life. He used to be a lot more daring and reckless, but he'll never remember. He's agent 8 of the new squidbeak splatoon. Something's wrong with him, but he's okay. He has a special interest (inkling culture) that he studies a lot. He isn't the best at socializing sometimes. He's loved alister since the two were stuck in the deepsea metro. He likes wearing most clothing, except for things that are tight. He loves loose, baggy sweaters. It took him awhile to do agent work, but he's good at it. He still can't play turf war matches with pink and teal as the ink colors without feeling dread. Ink bombs scare him a little.
Orion is a bit of a loner. He was recruited as agent 7, by his own request mainly. He's an old friend of josh, though josh doesn't remember that much, and josh seems like a completely different person. He worked in the octarian military until the domes stabilized. He mainly did it for his family, who he still visits often, no matter how awful travelling conditions are. He values connections the most despite insisting on going on missions alone often. He has a bit of an ego due to his experience. It won't ever hurt him though. He wants to train the new agents, though they're hard to work with. He doesn't mind.
Violet is the most energetic of the group. They feel a lot of pressure being neo agent 3, they have a feeling captain alister did a lot as agent 3, from what they've heard. They were an orphan that learned to survive in the wilderness with their best friend, scope. They got help from another soon-to-be close friend, too, and want to repay them by secretly letting them explore alterna (that will definitely go well). They love alterna. They hate the fuzzy ooze. Theyve been partially infected by the fuzzy ooze, though this doesnt show too much. Mr. grizz considered them partially mammalian when the two first met. They hated that. They want to be a pro splatterscope player when theyre older. They love the z+f one in particular. They do aim drills with their friends. They love their friends dearly.
Scope is quite rowdy but still well meaning. He had gotten lost from his family while on a salmon run, and violet had found him. He couldn't have asked for a better friend. He doesn't know his original name, he feels bad about it, he wants to learn about his culture. He's agent 5 for the neo squidbeak splatoon. He helps out violet on missions. He was apart of a family of stingers, and strives to be one himself. He really wants to work with violet as snipers some day.
I have an agent 6 in the works, but ill talk about them later

Tumblr media
(sorry it took me literal months to get to this omfg) this is 100% a pearlina song for real!!!! this is just the definition of their vibe i love them so much, it gives me the feeling of like one of them comforting the other over their past and like singing to them to calm them down i will YELL
i've written pearlina flashback episodes before where marina deals with ptsd and pearl comforts her and usually i throw in her singing the calamari inkantation (for obvious reasons) but i think she would def sing songs like this to her too <3 marina would love to sing this kind of stuff when she's doing silly little things around the house or when she's taking care of pearl, very domestic vibes

a lengthy description of my splatoon ocs
because i'm not well, mentally!
(some images from https://mebuika.kenkenpa.net/ikamaker.html or https://mebuika.kenkenpa.net/takomakertest.html)
Dates assume that each Splatoon game takes place in the Inkling calendar year that corresponds to the year it came out.
in reverse order of appearance:
PORT O'CALL (née Port Hyōmonda, Gen 99): Agent 3 — Straight-Up Not Having a Good Time, Angsty Teen Extraordinaire
Tumblr media
Port was born in 2006 and raised in Octo Valley. Cloned from a template designed for combat, she was largely raised by her superior officer, Starboard, who was cloned from the same template and employed in defense of the Octarian Kettles.
Starboard, who had spent Port's entire life training her harshly and strictly to make her the best combatant she could be, fled Octo Valley in 2015 after hearing the Calamari Inkantation during the then-Agent 3's battle with DJ Octavio, taking Port with her. Feeling deeply regretful over how she treated Port for her entire life, Starboard changed their surnames, procured false documents which listed them as sisters, and began working as a freelance web designer to support herself and Port. In the years since, their life, while not easy, has been relatively stable. Starboard (Star, for short) rents a reasonably-sized apartment in the outskirts of Inkopolis, is in a long-term relationship with an accountant named Jason, and enjoys watching baseball in her spare time. She prefers not to interact with Turf Wars, since it's a bit too similar to her life in Octo Valley, and she doesn't like being reminded of that. She doesn't like the idea of her sister being involved in it, either, since she wants her sister to have a happy life, not one filled with hardship like hers was.
However, Port resented this quiet life, she resented the fact that Starboard was trying to keep her close, and she especially resented the fact that her sister (who she thinks of more as a mom, but she'd absolutely never say so out loud) spent far more time with her boring, lame boyfriend than she did with her.
In an effort to distance herself from her genetically identical sister, Port cut her hair short and bought cyan contacts to cover up her eye color. This proved to not be enough for Starboard to respect her wishes to go do daredevil Turf War stuff, so one day, while her sister was out, she packed her things, got on a bus to the Splatlands, ran out of bus fare near Splatsville, and was left on the side of the road in the searing sun.
She took shelter in some ruins in the Crater, where she first met a small Salmonid that followed her around and refused to leave her alone. Eventually, she caught a train to Splatsville, where she was inducted into the New Squidbeak Splatoon by Cuttlefish.
Despite all her adventures in Alterna, Port has no money or housing to speak of. She sleeps in the locker room at the Turf War lobby and eats only when she has enough money for it (she makes money mostly through Turf Wars and jobs at Grizzco.) She keeps all of her earthly belongings in her locker, and goes by Import to anyone she meets to avoid being tracked down by her sister.
Port is extremely concerned with being cool and popular, a trait which unfortunately makes her very uncool and unpopular. This combined with her extreme poverty preventing her from engaging with fashion in the way most Inklings and Octolings her age do has made her fairly resentful of the world around her and prone to lashing out at people who try to pity her.
QUAY MIZUDA (Gen 93): Agent 8 — A Poetic Soul, Lacking Somewhat in Social Graces
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quay was born in 2001 and raised in Octo Valley. Cloned from a template designed for technological maintenance and construction, she was only a year into her job when she heard the Calamari Inkantation and fled the Valley. After tussling with then-Agent 3 Lock and then-Cap'n Cuttlefish, all three were captured by malicious AI TARTAR and brought to the Deepsea Metro, where Quay was inducted into the New Squidbeak Splatoon (on a temporary basis) and termed Agent 8.
After her adventures in the Deepsea Metro and saving the world from NILS, Quay went on to become an occasional employee at Grizzco and an occasional contender in local Turf War leagues. She also roomed with Agent 4 for some time, but eventually got her own place in Inkopolis in 2020 due to extenuating circumstances.
Quay has a rather unfortunate infatuation with Agent 1 (Callie, of the Squid Sisters), to the point of being largely incapable of speaking around her. This unfortunate fact is obvious to literally everyone, apparently excluding Callie.
Quay is fairly reserved, preferring to speak only when she has something important to say, or when she's being prompted to. She is rather uncomfortable around the rest of the Splatoon these days, largely because of the social bramble they're all engaged in. She writes poetry in her spare time, which would be impressive if she was willing to show it to anyone besides Marina and Pearl, who are basically her only link to a social life these days.
JETTY WINGDAM: Agent 4 — Habitual Overachiever, Habitual Grudge-Holder
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jetty was born in 2001 and raised in a town about forty minutes from Inkopolis by train. She kept herself extremely busy for most of her life with club activities, academic decathlons, spelling and geography bees, part-time jobs, and art shows. She was on the fast track for a scholarship at some important university or other when, at age 16, she up and decided to move to Inkopolis, chasing a more exciting life. Pulling together enough money to rent herself an apartment, she set out for Inkopolis with dreams of being a Turf War champion — which she never did, of course, but she still managed to make plenty of money off the pursuit, as well as her employment at Grizzco.
She also followed a strange woman into a sewer grate, which ended surprisingly well for her, as she became Agent 4 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon and rescued the Great Zapfish (again).
When she was introduced to Quay, she almost immediately developed feelings for her, and rooming together for months certainly didn't help matters. The two dated for two years, from 2018 to 2020, but Quay ended their relationship in order to pursue Agent 1, which left Jetty more than a little cold, since she had evidently been far more committed to the whole thing than Quay if she was able to leave it behind so easily. The animosity between them has not chilled even slightly in the two or so years since, making things tremendously awkward for all of their co-workers.
Jetty is cartoonishly multi-talented and incapable of sitting still. If something needs doing, she's either doing it or learning how to do it. However, this hyperactive demeanor can be off-putting to certain people. Her best friend in the world at this point is Marie, who puts up with her for slightly longer than others do.
When interacting with Quay or even talking about her to others, Jetty freezes up and becomes very terse, almost rude. The breakup did a number on her self-esteem, and that clearly hasn't changed.
LOCK CHAMBERS: Captain of the New Squidbeak Splatoon — A Shambling Collection of Anxieties in the Shape of a Squid, Thankfully in Therapy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lock was born in 2001, and grew up in the country, but moved to Inkopolis a few weeks after her fourteenth birthday. (Lock presented male until 2021, when she transitioned.) She was almost immediately inducted into the Splatoon by Cuttlefish. She spent a few years working her way up the competitive Turf War circuit, making it into the top 100 in 2015 and 2016, but was torn away from Inkopolis for an extended period during a mission to the cape, where she, Cuttlefish, and the Octoling they were fighting were pulled into the Deepsea Metro.
She wandered alone for days, becoming hungrier and thirstier, before catching a signal from another CQ-80 and swooping in to save Quay and Cuttlefish from being blended. After this, her body was hijacked by TARTAR and she was trapped within her brain, wandering through her memories. She tried to escape, but was eventually freed anyway after Quay defeated her body.
She woke up after TARTAR was defeated and had the entire story recounted to her. After this, she became a part of the social circle that also contained Jetty and Quay. During this time, Lock developed a crush on Quay and asked her out, but Quay rejected her since she was more interested in Jetty at the time. Lock remains fairly awkward around Quay to this day, but doesn't have feelings for her anymore.
Lock also made it into the top 100 in the Inkopolis Turf War circuit in 2018, 2019, and 2020. However, after Jetty and Quay broke up, Lock lost her one link to a social life. With her two best friends constantly complaining to her about each other, her completely unresolved trauma about having her mind overrun always on her mind, and a sense that something was wrong with her mounting, Lock fled the country, renting a new apartment in a country halfway around the world and ditching the Splatoon. During her time in this other country, she did some soul-searching and figured some stuff out about herself — specifically, that she was trans and a woman, not a man. After inviting the rest of the Splatoon over after months of radio silence, she explained the whole thing and they not only accepted her wholeheartedly (Jetty and Quay even briefly suspended their animosity for the occasion) but gave her a promotion to Captain following Cuttlefish's retirement.
Lock's shy around new people but talks when she needs to. She has a habit of stuttering and repeating herself when she talks without thinking, so she tries to make sure that when she talks, it's with purpose. With her friends or people she knows well, she's more willing to stutter and speak needlessly, but there aren't many people she can do that with these days — in her current working group, it's mostly Marie and Cuttlefish, since Callie's upbeatness kind of freaks her out. She's also got a bad case of resting frown that makes her look kind of intimidating to new people. She hasn't participated in a Turf War since her promotion to Captain, and she's thinking about formally retiring from the sport.
Aaaaaand that's it! I'm aware my OCs have relationships that are uh, unconventional, for the fandom perception, but I like 'em anyway, and I've spent a great deal of time thinking about them ever since 2019 when I first picked up Splatoon. Hope you liked 'em! Thanks for reading this really incredibly long post.

splatoon 3 tmrw, so heres me recollecting my memories
i remember when i first saw the game splatoon. it was at my neighbours house. her dad had a switch and i immediately spotted splatoon 2’s cover, the bright and cheerful colors bringing my attention to it. he let me play, and it was love at first click.
it was stick controls, (and it would take years to figure out i wasnt a stick control person) and i was clunky. the movement felt so fluid, the sound atmosphere. i felt like i was in a new city, and it made me feel free. theres something about the movement in splatoon. the swimming through ink, that makes me feel alive. the sound that it makes, the speed at which you go to. it feels like flying.
it wasnt untill a year later when my dad bought my sister a switch. we could get two games. one of it , my sisters pick: breath of the wild. and mine? splatoon. i was rabid for it. the day it came, i played it for so long. my first main was a splat roller, like it was for many im sure. the feeling of flight when i was swimming in ink hasnt stopped since.
the music just flows through me , and while im sure part of it is the variety, i love the fact that it has vocals that are unrecognisable. its such a weird thing for me- that i cant focus if there are people singing with words, even words i dont recognise. every genre splatoon hit was a genre i had previously loved, and i loved even more. the first song i ever played on repeat was of course, the spicy calamari inkantation. there was something about it so captivating, ironically enough.
the creativity of the devs, bless the devs, is astounding to me. i love them. i love their passion, i love all the designs and weapons theyve cooked up. exploding fizzy bottles, a washing machine, a bathtub, all as weapons? a little childhood anecdote from me is that i loved collecting food shaped items. or miniatures themed as food, but werent. this fit me so well into splatoon. everything was themed, but not outrageously. okay maybe a little, but it was to their benefit. and i love it, i love it all.
salmon run , is almost 100% the best thing to have come out of splatoon 2. i love the repetitive shooting, the goal, the challenge, and the teamwork. i wish splatoon had a voice chat that was built in. i think it wouldve been funny. i dont know how else to say this, but im sure ive spent alone at least 150 hours just playing salmon run.
lastly, all the friends i have made , because of splatoon. some of my friends that ive gone even closer because of it, and some friendships that have gone. i hold these memories of us together so dearly. i think i will probably continuously pay for our nintendo family online, so we will forever be able to play together
splatoon has been such a huge part of me for a long time, never truly leaving my brain. thank you so much to this game, so truly and dearly. its not as if im gonna abandon my copy of splatoon 2, however its a new era, and with it, the old era has to take a step back. im so grateful for this game. i dont know how to explain it. its more than a fandom for me. its an escape, the feeling of flight.
ill see you in splatsville,
sings

Alright so Squid House AU. Rambling once again. This time about Luz and the events leading to her escaping the Octarain domes.
Like I said in previous ramblings Luz is an inventive octoling. She is a tinkerer and inventor, who doesn't really ask if she should invent something but rather does it anyway without thinking. A bit of an oddball, Luz never really made friends with her squadmates, in fact, quite the opposite, oftentimes being the but of most of the jokes, pranks, and hazing of her training squads before being transferred to a new squad where the cycle would continue. Eventually, Luz tested out of grunt training and into weapon designer or combat engineer training. Keep in mind this is the girl who, in canon, studies wild magic, glyph combos, and all nine magic tracks for fun all while building a portal to another realm in her spare time. Luz is smart.
She thrived academically, understanding the materials well enough, but still never really made any connections...mostly because she was obsessed with fiction books, comics, and what little fanfiction octarian society has and even wrote her own. She also questioned everything, even with hypno-goggles on, and everything got "worse" after the Calamari Inkantation. She was still loyal, but only because she had her mother who she loves dearly. She doesn't have to wear the goggles at home and they sing old octarian folk songs instead of listening to DJ Octavio. Camila even encourages her to invent things, as long as they're useful though.
So she invented things...but that didn't work either. Her teachers thought that her inventions were either weird or useless, at least according to them. Deployable miniature disco balls (regular disco balls not flash bangs), mechanical homing pigeons (filled with spiders), glue bombs filled with sea snakes (the snakes got stuck too). It was this last one she revealed at a weapons demo that got her in trouble.
It was probably really stifling for her and the hypno-goggles made it worse (Personally subscribing to the theory that the hypno-goggles were merely suggestive while the hypno-shades were complete brainwashing). So when they "suggested" Luz to be one of the first test subjects candidates for the new and improved hypno-shades? She panics. She's heard the rumors, seen people wearing them, unable to question orders and acting like an entirely different person, unable to take them off or even Want To. She wants to believe her mother, Camila, will protect her, but instead, she just sighs and Agrees.
In a daze, Luz tunes out the rest of the conversation as the program director explains the benefits of the new shades. She prepares herself. In her head she is half planning on running away, half wondering if this is maybe what she needs, that being under the shade's influence will "fix" her, make her "normal". But then Camilia suggests she throw away her Good Squid Azura book before getting on the transport. Her mother says goodbye, since she has to leave for work, leaving Luz alone at the end of the street, and as soon as Camila is out of sight, Luz breaks and runs. She grabs her book and nearly everything that could even remotely be useful out of the trash and begins her escape.
Course a 14-year-old octoling isn't going to get amazingly far by herself, less so in a blind desperate scramble to escape to literally anywhere else, and might have accidentally fallen into an octarian junkyard where she spends the next hour trying not to cry over her good Squid Azura book. Until a strange feathered creature steals it and her bag as she rummages through the junk looking for a way out of the hole she fell into. Cue chase, cue discovery of kettle exit, cue screaming because the sun is very very bright.
And the sight of a young octoling covering her eyes and hissing is what introduces Eda and King to Luz. Eda senses an opportunity, the kid can shift forms where she can't and King needs his crown back from the evidence locker in the Inkopolis precinct, plus the kid is an octoling which to Eda at this point means gullible. So the two strike a deal. Eda won't force Luz back through the kettle or gives her access to it so she can go back and all Luz has to do is help Eda break into the Inkopolis precinct. To which Luz agrees.
From there Luz using her octopus form sneaks into the precinct and opens it from the inside, letting Eda in. They find the paper Burger Crab (I mean might as well be a krusty krab reference) crown and Luz gets the "Us weirdos have to stick together" line. Cue fight with Warden Wrath, who is possibly a Crab or Lobster? Luz uses one of her inventions (the disco ball I'm thinking) and it causes such a ruckus with its flashing lights that it blinds Wrath and trips him by being underfoot, which buys them enough time to escape. Eda and Luz also let everyone inside out to cover their tracks.
Eda praises Luz and opens the kettle for her to use. Luz hesitates before deciding that she wants to stay on the surface. Wanting to learn everything she can (and maybe hear more praise) from the older woman. Eda agrees to house her for the time being and it snowballs from there.
So there's that! Luz's time in the domes and first adventure on the surface. Probably could have wrote that better but maybe later I'll actually write it out as a proper story. Anyway, let me know what you all think and what I should ramble about next.
