i haven’t watched the finale and i don’t plan to do so anytime soon. i am happy that josie was given the importance that she deserves and i got my endgame. if it’s not an endgame for anyone else. for me it is. i am not exactly happy with it, but i can make my peace with it. this account will always be reminder of a person who loved a ship boundlessly and cried…wept their heart out. thank you hosie for making me feel something.

Honestly, it is very annoying and disappointing. Like, Talder is our latest loss (and win simulteneously it's weird), but with every non canon w/w ship and add the queerbait above that has got really annoying. Personally, every ship listed above ive loved wholeheartedly, but Hosie especially enraged and hurt me on another level. Like, god. Anyway, i dont wanna get all ranty on you. But it's annoying. That said, i love PG and A Leage of their own so much.

Hosie managed to be the most infuriating queerbait of all time and it had very steep competition, and somehow it won by a landslide.

What made Hosie so infuriating is that they, more than any other queerbaiting ship, threaded the line with actual canon the most. Say what you want about Swan Queen, Supercorp and co., but with those ships there was always a very distinct line of denial about the ships existence and the possibility of it occurring in the future. If not on camera, at the very least off camera.

I never, in a million years, thought my non canon ships would actually be canon because I just know how this shit works and we never win. But with Hosie? I had actual legit hope we would have canon hosie. Everything was working towards it. Not just the chemistry with the actresses, but the writing was not only subtext but actual freaking text, and with also talks with the actresses and show runners. Everything indicated that Hosie being canon was an actual possibility.

Until the last season happened.

I like the side of hizzie I’m on but why are the hosie’s so mean and toxic? It’s just a ship of fictional characters, not even the hizzie shippers care that much

This ask came in before the giant Twitter tantrum Hosies threw about not being allowed to threaten to kill or assault actors/writers. I didn't know how to answer it then, and I still don't know how to answer it now.

I imagine mob mentality plays a big part in it, and the negativity/entitlement probably started by fans mimicking the beliefs and actions of the hateful character in the ship.

Layne talks about the "behind the scenes" of the mob mentality/peer pressure a bit here:

And she's right. That's the community they've created. One that doesn't survive without hate and threats. It's a bunch of people who have bonded over their toxicity and need to "win" over other ships.

That's why so many decent Hosies or people who multiship and like Hosie find themselves so ostracized from the rest of the shipdom. It was never built on love for the ship the way Hizzie or Handon or Holarke was (and none of that is to say there are no toxic people in those fandoms, because trust me, I have met some truly nasty souls from each). It was built on ganging up and beating every other ship down instead of raising their own ship up. On making everyone else look bad instead of focusing on themselves. That's why you'll see so many Hosies who post more about Handon and Hizzie than their own ship.

And just in case you think that's an exaggeration:

They don't make groupchats to talk about Hope and Josie. They make groupchats to plan to harass people. They don't make Twitter communities to share edits of Hosie. They make Twitter communities dedicated to mocking other ships' edits. They don't comment under Legacies' posts about how much the characters or the show mean to them. They comment about how Hosie better be endgame or else.

Hate breeds hate, and I guess at one point very, very early on, that shipdom became too filled with hate to save. The people not filled with hate are bullied by their own peers if they dare speak out. That's why you get people like that Hosie who ended up being harassed and threatened by their own fellow shippers for daring to say that Hizzies are allowed to celebrate the good things they got in S4.

They've created an environment where you have to say racist or homophobic things to fit in. Where you have to send bullying messages to be accepted. Where you have to threaten the cast or else. And after watching them defend their desire to kill and/or assault anyone who doesn't ship their ship and only their ship this week, it's pretty clear that they've been brainwashed into thinking it's normal behavior.

So, I guess the answer is: I don't know, other than the hatred in them has overrun their love for the ship and their stubborn denial that anything is wrong with that keeps them from being able to change.

The selfish part of me wanted to see Josie one last time and get a proper hosie scene, but the other parts of me are glad that Kaylee didnt return on that set.

Honestly, I feel the exact same way. Very divided but ultimately content with how things turned out. It's giving The 100 and the entirety of fandom winding up miserable but Clexa stans still getting their silver lining, you know? The show was hell for Hosies and anyone who gave an inkling of a fuck about Kaylee, but at least everyone ate shit in the end and we're out here winning with open-ending Hosie. I'm not sorry to say that does spark joy within me. If I'm miserable, no one who basked in my misery gets to be happy ❤️

Woke up today thinking about the opening scene in the long-simmering sequel to the heartbreaking Leaving You in the Dark, and I really had the urge to write it (Hope waking up entangled among bodies). Unfortunately, the only thing I know about this sequel is the opening scene and the “motivating event,” the thing that kicks off the plot (and gets Hope out of bed); I don’t know any more of the plot, the ending, or anything. So I resisted, deciding to spend my time doing something more productive.

I thought perhaps I could make some progress on Hosie Santa Claus, something that I’ve been thinking about recently—and which is certainly timely, what with the season and all. Unfortunately, I’m sorta in the same spot with it; I know (have written already, mostly) the opening scene, and I know the general idea of the fic, but I don’t know the rest of the plot, nor the ending—I don’t even know who the villain is! Still, I thought if I could write some more—and I had some notes about a couple more “setup” scenes—I might be able to generate ideas about the rest.

Nearly 4 hours of writing (across a couple of sessions) and 2839 words later, well, I’ve pretty much exhausted my existing notes. I had a couple of new ideas, but no breakthroughs on the important bits 😢 Oh well. But I wrote! For the second time in two weeks! (Nearly the same number of words, even—but tonight took twice as long to achieve it.) And that’s still a win of some kind. But don’t get your hopes up for Hosie Santa Claus this Christmas 🎄
