The first time Steve feels it is when Hopper's new rule about him staying the night takes effect. The moment the feeling hits, however, his body is rushed with so much guilt that Steve can't even stay to fight the rule, barely managing to hug Billy before he's stumbling out to his car.
Steve called Billy when he got home, having recognized the look on the other boy's face. Though he was the toughest person Steve had ever met, he also have moments of so much pure vulnerability that made Steve want to sob. He knew this was one of those, so he didn't waste a single second to reassure him that he wasn't upset, that he was coming back, that fighting with Hopper about this wasn't worth it.
He pretended it made him feel better about the emotion that hit him in the cabin.
That particular feeling laid dormant in him for weeks. The pair got used to the new routine under Hopper's rule because the frustrated 'Kid, I don't have many rules to follow here so can you just follow this one?' was enough for Steve. He didn't want to be the reason this new good thing in Billy's life was strained. It was true they spent a lot of time together, especially after they'd both graduated and had endless time between work. This is a good thing, Steve told himself, Hopper actually gives a shit about Billy in a way his own dad never had before. It was important that this wasn't ruined because of him.
So he would come over after work, Billy teasing him about the sailor outfit only briefly before they'd sit down to help El with her studying. They'd watch movies, or go drive around if Johnathan was around to watch the kids (though Billy constantly argued that they were in middle school, and he was watching himself just fine at that age). Steve would have to remind Billy that everything was different now, after Will had been abducted into the Upside Down. After they'd all explained everything, Billy seemed to take the babysitter role seriously, often taking the kids with him to the pool or dropping them off at the mall with the promise that Steve would give them free ice cream if they had DnD night at the Wheelers' the next day so he and Steve could have the cabin to themselves.
And when the sun started to set, Steve would untangle himself from Billy and fight his way to his car, trying desperately to not be tempted by Billy's pleas to stay. But El had been begging Hopper to let Mike stay the night in the way Steve did, and even Steve could see the dangers in letting that line of thinking continue. So he left, with the promise to call Billy when he got home.
It was an okay system, he guessed.
And then, a month later the feeling returned.
Hopper came home early, telling Steve he needed to head out sooner than normal today. The Hoppers were having family dinner at the Byers house, and the pointed 'family' from Hopper reminded Steve just how much Hopper didn't want him there.
It wasn't that Steve was disliked. On the contrary, Hopper had let it be known in his own unique way that he was cherished by everyone in the cabin. He was good for Billy, he was one of the few who didn't try to talk down to El when she couldn't figure out something that the other kids learned years before, he didn't try to fight the rules like Mike fucking Wheeler did. It was just, he was around all the time. Steve knew Hopper thought his kids needed more space from their boyfriends, something about codependency or some shit.
"Steve can come to dinner, he's practically family," Billy pointed out, that glint in his eyes clueing Steve into the fact that he was willing to fight for this one. He was willing to fight for most things, when it came to Steve. That fact made Steve's chest burn in a way he wasn't willing to analyze just yet.
"Until there's a ring, it's actual family only," Hopper snapped, then turned to point an accusing finger at Steve as he began shoving his books roughly into his bag, "Don't get any ideas, Harrington."
"Wasn't planning on it," Steve choked out, eyes fixed to the tops of his perfectly white Nike sneakers as he finished packing, leaving nothing left to do but leave. He would leave and let his boyfriend enjoy the family dinners he deserved to have years ago.
He'd leave so the others wouldn't have to see the jealousy he was choking on.
"Call me tonight," he offered Billy, until images of the other boy leaving precious family time early to make that call happen flashed through his mind. It would be your fault if he missed out, he finally gets all this happiness and you're gonna try to steal it from him. "Or don't, have fun tonight. I'll see you on Monday."
Steve practically sprinted to his BMW, car door barely closed behind him before he was pulling away from the cabin. The mistake only became apparent when he got home, when he stepped back into the echo chamber he called a home. I'll see you on Monday. They always saw each other on the weekends, always. It was more of a dismissal than anything Hopper had given him, a cold sentence that chilled Steve's bones even now.
And suddenly, the empty house with nothing to offer him but too many shadows he could mistake for Demodogs was too cold, too barren, for him to stay. So Steve grabbed his keys from where he'd just tossed them into the little bowl on the side table. His hands shook as he reclimbed into his car, as he took off without any real destination in mind.
"I'm so fucked up," Steve hissed, hand smacking the wheel harshly as he drove the empty country roads. And he was, wasn't he? The feeling crawled up in his chest again, vines making their way through every inch of him until he wasn't sure where he ended and this jealousy began. Had there ever been a moment when he didn't feel this?
He and Billy had first made a truce over their shitty dads. 'Your dad sounds like an asshole,' Billy had helpfully supplied when a drunk Steve had lamented over the way his father had threatened to disown him if he couldn't get into college next year, if he didn't take the Scoops job. It hadn't always been easy between him and Billy, but they'd found a way to trust each other through nights at the Quarry, passing cigarettes and finally letting someone see a piece of their lives that both boys had kept close to their chests.
But then Joyce saw Neil hit Billy outside of Melvald's, and so began the process of Billy getting the family he'd always deserved, the family that Steve had spent many late nights wishing Billy could have had from the start.
And he was happy for Billy, of fucking course he was.
But now Billy had curfews, and rules handed down from a loving father with no real punishment if they weren't followed. He had so many siblings who loved him, and he had family dinners of all fucking things.
Steve couldn't remember the last time he actually had a dinner with his parents. They were usually gone for months at a time, only coming back if they found out Steve fucked something up bad enough. They'd come home late at night, barely unpacking their bags before his father was laying into him, throwing those words around that were scarred deep in his body. His mom would throw him that look, like she was so sad that this was how her only son had ended up. They'd stay the night and they'd be gone before Steve woke up the next morning.
It wasn't right, to feel any sort of bitterness that Billy got his happy ending. But fuck if it didn't hurt that he didn't get his own, that no one noticed that he still needed help even if there had only been one time his father laid a hand on him.
It had been when his father found out Steve didn't get into college. He'd called him worthless, a disappointment. He smacked him across the face, hard enough to leave a red handprint hours later. He'd never told a soul about it, not even Billy. It wasn't worth it to bring it up when he used to clean off the blood and bruises on Billy's body from Neil's heavy hand. Steve never spoke of it, and it never happened again.
Something flew across the road. Steve yelped, mind drawing to mind oversized dogs with flower jaws and too many rows of teeth. His hands moved on their own, twisting the wheel until he was flying off the road into a nearby tree. The impact was enough to shock all of the hurt and bitterness from his chest, leaving only physical pain, fear.
"Shit," Steve hissed when he brought a hand up to touch a stinging spot on his head, fingertips coming back stained red. He could see the large spidering cracks across his windshield, could see the tree limbs that smashed into his car's hood. He was damn lucky he survived, Steve thought.
But his car was fucked. He could tell that without even trying to start it, though his hands tried to turn the keys anyway without any luck.
He would need to call someone for help. Nancy had a newspaper thing that night, she was busy. He didn't want to intrude on family dinner, not when he'd seen the little burst of happiness in Billy's eyes that the other guy would never admit if he could help it. Steve didn't want to bother any of the kids with his problems, because it would only spread to their parents and shit he didn't need those looks turned in on him. He could already hear it. How could you be so reckless? What were you doing driving around in the middle of the night moping anyway? What problems are really so bad you couldn't deal with it, rich boy?
No, he could handle this on his own.
So Steve grabbed the bat that had a permanent residence in the trunk of his car and set off walking. It was a hot night, muggy in a way he hadn't been expecting. It wasn't long until the back of his neck was slick with sweat, hair matted down in a way he didn't even want to see but made his scalp itch.
Luckily, the old ironworks building came into view. He knew there was a payphone nearby it, after that time that Tommy and Carol convinced him to help graffiti it for fun. He could call the station maybe, get someone to come tow the car.
Just as his fingers were wrapping around said phone, however, something flashed in the corner of his vision. The thing had growled, the sound sending him straight back to the junkyard when he'd fought off that otherwordly creature because there was no one else who could protect those kids, he was the oldest, the stupidest, the most expendable.
Were the Demodogs fucking back? "Shit, shit, shit," Steve hissed, fingers mashing the buttons he'd memorized long ago. He hoped they were all still at the Byers house, hoped that someone would answer him.
"Byers' residence," Hopper huffed, and Steve could've cried with relief right then.
"Hop, it's Steve. I need t-"
"Harrington, I thought we agreed you and Billy need time apart."
"I know, I know, but listen i-"
"You can talk to each other in the morning."
"Wait, no, Hop!" Steve screamed, voice scratchy with the way the words tore from his throat. But it didn't matter, because he could already here the tones that signaled Hopper had hung up. He was well and truly alone.
So Steve did the only thing he could in the middle of the woods with that thing out there. He took a deep breath, tightened his fingers around the bat, and ran.
He ran to find the nearest cover—hands shaking as they ripped open the heavy metal doors of the ironworks building. It was dark and scary as shit in there, but it was better than standing in the middle of the small clearing just waiting for that thing to pounce. He knew how quickly those things could kill someone, knew how easily they could tear his throat out the second he was caught. No, hiding until the thing got bored was the best, the only, option here.
He could hide out all night if he wanted. Hopper would tell Billy that he called in the morning, and when Steve wasn't at the house Billy would come looking for him. And that's all there was to it. He could wait.
Except life never wanted to give Steve a break, did it? Because then something was wrapping around his ankle, and if Steve didn't know any better he'd say it felt slimy like a tentacle. It was pulling until he slammed to the ground, all breath smacking out of his chest and his nose cracking open as he hit the metal ground.
"Wait, no, no!" Steve screamed, fingers scrabbling to find purchase on something, anything, as the tentacle was pulling him further into the building, down some metal stairs into the basement. "No, fuck!"
The tentacle didn't let go, but when he was in the middle of the room it stopped pulling, allowing Steve to flip over onto his back in the hopes his lungs would refill easier.
It was a hope that was dashed the moment he saw what had grabbed him. It was a giant creature, a blob of something he didn't particularly want to think too hard about. One of those tendrils was right above him then, and before Steve could even realize what was happening it smacked over his mouth, the end sliding further down until he was sure he'd never breathe again. His only salvation was when his vision finally blurred and he lost consciousness.
Steve was somewhere dark. The red lightning clued him in to where he was, remembering it from those freaky ass drawings Will had made. He was in the Upside Down. "Hey, hey what the hell?" he called out, wincing at the shakiness in his breath. He didn't want to be here, he knew what kind of things were here and he didn't want to fight them. He wanted to go home to that god-awful empty house, he wanted to tuck himself into bed and sleep with all the lights on. He didn't want to be here.
When he turned, Steve came face-to-face with what could only be described as an army. What looked like hundreds of people, all just standing there. And at the front of them all? It was him, smirking with an evilness that Steve wasn't aware his face could possess.
"Who the hell are you?" Steve asked, unable to move away from this mirror image even though he desperately wanted to.
"I'm you," the other him spoke lowly, grinning as he took a step forward toward Steve. "At least, I'm you for now, while you help me build."
"Build? No, no fuck you," Steve snapped, "I'm getting out of here."
"And go where? Home to that empty house? Will you call the parents who don't love you? Or maybe you'll call the boyfriend you couldn't even look at tonight, because he was happy. No, I think you'll stay right here," the Not-Him spoke, stepping forward and brushing fingers over his cheek in a way that made shivers run through his body. This wasn't normal, this was so fucked in too many ways to explain. He just wanted to go home.
"You know why I know that? Because you aren't needed out there. Everyone else has a life they're building, and you don't serve a real purpose in any of it. You have purpose here though, Steve Harrington, you're useful here. So stay, rest while we take care of everything. You can do that, can't you?"
Steve wanted to say no. He wanted to scream and bang his fists until he woke up back in bed. But he didn't, he couldn't. All he could do was stand there while visions of everyone he knew enjoying their night flashed through his mind like he was a fly on the wall for all of it.
Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Max all in the Wheeler's basement watching movies that Nancy must have rented out for them. Nancy, sitting in the Hawkins Post office building hunched over something. Tommy and Carol out at a party, trashed and dancing to one of Steve's favorite songs. His parents, at some fancy restaurant sipping wine in Chicago.
Then Billy, sat around a table with Hopper, El, Will, Johnathan, and Joyce. He was actually laughing, the skin around his eyes crinkled with the joy.
No one knew he was here. No one was missing him. He would have spent tonight in that cold empty house anyway, what was spending a night being cold and empty here?
"Fuck you," Steve whispered, unable to fight the tears that slipped from his eyes. He didn't fight as this Other Steve stepped through him, merged with him.
It didn't matter.

There's something so crushing about the theory that Hopper is actually Will's father, and it truly is the Jonathan of it all. Imagine Jonathan finding out and thinking what? really? For a split second before realizing that no, it's not both of them. That would be crazy. It's just Will. Of course it's just Will.

Steve x Eddie Werewolf AU
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Not that you need to read any of that to get it because this skips ahead after the Vecna battle, Steve uses a pack mating bond to save Eddie and all you need to know past that is there is like, romance novel type werewolves (not A/B/O) and also Alexi’s alive.
Steve’s wolf has always accepted Hopper as a father figure, allowing the older man’s pack to slot easily over Steve’s larger one due to the bonds both the children involved have with their parents, and how the overwhelming majority of his pack views Hopper as a trusted, beloved elder.
Absolutely, Steve is their Alpha, the wolf in charge of their Pack. There is no question there, no argument (particularly since the children’s original pack had all but harassed Steve into taking up the role) but as does happen with werewolves, the human and wolf halves mixed to create sort of in between, combined culture. Within it, parental figures can easily hold ties to their own children, no matter if they were in different packs.
Not that things still didn’t end in bloody fights, but as with most things, werewolves had, at large, contingencies in place to prevent dominance fights in modern times.
Steve had always respected that, respected Hopper, more so than any other adult he knew beyond perhaps Joyce.
A fact that made this display all the more startling.
“Hopper.”
The words crackle with power, werewolf dominance and pack magic flooding the kitchen.
Murray sucked in a breath while Alexi outright shuddered, more affected by it than Eddie and Hopper. The latter two still look over in surprise as Steve stalks in.
The movement is predatory, almost inhuman, and no one needed to see Steve’s gold eyes to figure out that it was his wolf in control.
He moved fast, faster than he should be with his injuries, to come to rest with his back in front of Eddie. It’s an aggressive, protective, stance, fury rolling off him in waves along with the blatant display of pack magic.
“Why are you harassing my mate?” Steve outright snarled, and there is not a person in the room who has ever heard him sound so unfriendly.
For a moment everyone freezes.
“I’m making sure Eddie knows what’s important.” Hopper responded after a long moment. “--for the safety of both our packs.”
He’s holding his stare, looking Steve straight in the eyes.
 Challenging him.
It’s the wrong move.
Murray shifted slightly in front of Alexi, both their heads ping-ponging between Steve and Hopper.
Eddie himself sucked in a quiet breath but tries to keep his own emotions down-the last thing  they need is Steve and Hopper have a blowout fight in the kitchen.
Not when Steve’s wolf was in charge.
Steve Harrington the human fought only to inconvenience. He lost fights due to the fact that he didn’t want to permanently harm the people he often fought against. He hated killing, refused to physically punish his packmates in the style many traditional werewolves preferred, and as a whole let even the most submissive of his pack boss him around.
Steve Harrington the wolf fought to kill.
No hesitation, no pulled punches.
Just death.
The noise that ripped its way out of Steve’s chest is inhuman. “Eddie is mine. You have no right to him, or to question my decisions.”
The way his wolf speaks is strangely formal, almost royal. Not the choked, half-formed sentences many wolves speak in when taking over in human form, wolf understanding incompatible with human languages.
He doesn’t have to see Steve’s eyes to see the warning in them. “You’ve overstepped.”
“It’s okay.” Eddie said quietly, trying to head this off before it gets worse. It’s his fault, he realizes with horror, that Steve is out here now. He had been the one to lose control, to tease and taunt Hopper as was his usual defense when being read the riot act.
It was second nature to him, a layer of defense. Words couldn’t hurt if he didn’t let him. People wouldn’t betray him if he forced their intentions towards him out in the open.
Except this was Chief Jim Hopper, legendary Hawkins hero and father figure to the vast majority of his shiny new pack.
Including the man who had decided that someone as worthless as Eddie was worth claiming as his mate.
He’d let his emotions get the better of him, goaded Hopper into saying shit that frankly, wasn’t even close to the worst that had ever been thrown at him, even before the entire satanist-cult-murderer business.
Got his own stupid feelings hurt in the process, because he somehow had led himself to believe this adult, the fucking Chief of Police, who was well acquainted with his shitty parents and had arrested Eddie himself on a half-dozen occasions for everything ranging from petty theft to selling drugs, and who had been stuck in a Russian prison and fighting away from Eddie entirely, would believe that he was a good addition for Steve’s pack.
The same pack his daughter was in (and if looks were to go by, his step-sons as well.)
Nevermind all the children he’d been defending from this bullshit for ages.
“Steve, it’s okay.” He stresses, hesitantly reaching out to put a hand on his mate’s shoulder.
The younger wolf doesn’t acknowledge him.
Hopper’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of his wolf’s green starting to show around his pupils.
“Think it’s time we all cool off. Maybe not have a pissing match in Joyce’s kitchen?” Murray’s voice is uncharacteristically devoid of its usual crazed energy, but Eddie’s got to give the man points for trying.
The dude’s a weird one, in a way that Eddie almost feels a strange kinship with. Unlike Murray though, Eddie’s got a dominant streak in him that makes him do more than just taunt and poke. It makes him strut, flaunt, throw things in people’s faces.
Murray is smart enough to not give in to that half of himself-or perhaps, simply doesn’t have that same need to display his dominance in new and confounding ways.
“Shut up Murray.” Is Hopper’s reply, voice hard.
Steve manages to tense even further, muscles in his arms and neck flexing to make themselves known. For a moment his fingers blur in and out-Eddie catches the movement and tugs hard at Steve's shirt.
Somehow he knows that If Steve shifts at all, even just to get his claws out, it’s game over.
There won’t be any going back once they fight. Not when they're like this. Not when Steve’s told him that Hopper and Steve have never fought before, and the kids are thankful for it. The dynamic the two packs have, the familiar bond between them keeping the peace-they need that.
Tears try to burn their way out of Eddie as he once again finds himself on the edge of ruining everything for everyone else around him.
‘Maybe I am the devil,’ He thought hysterically, ‘--set here on earth to destroy everything around me.’
Hopper spotted the collection of power as it shifted down to Steve’s hands. His back straightened, shoulders going tense and Eddie knows he’s about to step forward, is trying desperately to figure out a way to stop this, when Jonathan bumbles dead into their midst.
He’s sleepy, hair a mess, sweatpants riding low on his hips and shirt slightly off one shoulder. The calmness that comes with him is the kind only an Omega wolf can pull, blanketing over the building anger in Hopper and blatant rage from Steve.
“Mornin.” He mumbled, before he opened his mouth in a yawn, lazily opening a cabinet next to Steve and Eddie. He pulls out a cup, fills it with water, movements slow and deliberate.
Eddie’s eyes go wide.
This is their pack Omega. Sure okay, he was one of their best fighters according to literally everyone else (not that Eddie would know, he hasn’t been around the guy long enough to tell much about him) but the fact remained: Omega’s were rare. Precious.
Protected.
And he was putting himself directly in harm’s way.
“Byers.” He managed to get the warning out, voice half strangled.
Hopper’s eyes snap to Eddie, a wave of protectiveness flowing forward in that sort of scent/magic/posture/positioning way their wolf halves spoke to one another.
It was a response clearly made over Jonathan, which definitely meant that dating or not, he’d decided to consider the kid a one of his own.
Steve shortly came to the exact same conclusion and as expected, considering the elder-Byers  was his Pack’s Omega, reacted poorly.
Very poorly.
Power took visible form, cackling outwards from his eyes and down around his hands, dancing across his fingers. The blur was back, not quite yet shifting fingernails into claws but it was a close thing.
Hopper raised his lips in a snarl, fangs already formed. Eddie felt panic rise fast within him, hand still clutching Steve’s shirt. Watched as Murray shoved Alexi further back into the wall, in preparation of getting the more submissive wolf out of the way and Jonathan-
Jonathan fucking sighed, before dropping his entire body weight against Steve, leaning on him while preventing any movement form either angry Alpha for risk of hitting him if they fought.
One again, every single person in the room froze.
Byers took a noisey sip of water before raising his eyes to stare to the left of Hopper’s.
“Could we not do this today?” He said quietly, that Omega calmness solidifying into a blanket-like feeling.
There was a moment so tense Eddie could taste it, before Steve’s wolf released the power he’d drawn, the visible electric-like energy easing before disappearing entirely.
“Everyone is still nursing injuries and I kinda think the kids would prefer a day where they didn’t have to see blood everywhere.” He continued, soft voice sounding annoyed.
Eddie could feel the undercurrent of Jonathan’s own abilities pulsing outwards. Soothing things over, easing bloodlust and anger both.
His head rolled, eyes flicking from Hopper to Steve. “And personally, I’d like to go back to bed with my packmates.”
Over the Pack-Bond he added,  ::Who shouldn’t be out of bed with their injuries.::
It was a fond chastisement that in any other scenario would have made Eddie smile.
Hopper opened his mouth, only to be beaten when another voice jumped into the fray.
Joyce Byers, mother figure of Steve’s pack and second in command of Hopper’s (if not currently his mate, Eddie was very unclear on that dynamic) strode into the kitchen, hands on her hips.
“What is happening here?” She demanded, her own Omega abilities matching smoothly with Jonathan’s as she came to stand in between Steve and Hopper.
Eddie had met her a few more times than he had Hopper, enough to know that the Byer’s ability to churn out Omega’s was particularly strong considering Joyce was also one.
Will hadn’t taken on any similar abilities, not yet, but the kid was extremely submissive in nature and there was a going bet about it being just a matter of time before he too, came up as an Omega wolf.
Joyce took in the scene in her kitchen with narrowed eyes. They landed on her eldest son for a moment, the two of them no doubt communicating silently in that way parents and kids often did,  before she continued.
“Hopper, why are you cornering three of my kids?” She demanded, rounding on her pack leader..
Eddie damn near fell into Steve at the words, he flinched so hard.
Apparently, the claim startled Hopper too. “I-” He began but Joyce flickered her hand out,  cutting him off.
“Are you seriously trying to start a fight in my kitchen? Barely a few days after all the-the crazy shit happened!?” Her voice raised in pitch, her own anger joining the fray, but unlike other werewolves, Joyce’s had the distinct ability to make everyone involved feel deeply, deeply ashamed.
Eddie certainly did, for starting this whole mess.
‘You knew you weren’t good enough for them.’ His inner voice whispered. ‘You should have done more to convince them you were nothing but a fucking mess. They never should have allowed you to join their pack.’
“I’m trying to be a good parent here, Joyce.” Hopper grit out but it was aimed entirely at her, his attention falling away from Steve. “I have arrested Munson more times than I can count, and while it’s one thing to give the kid a pass now and then it’s another when the kids are involved!”
Jonathan sighed as the two began to bicker, Joyce physically advancing on Hopper with a wagging finger.
“I cannot believe you’d be this stupid-!” She was saying, and though it was aimed at the older man she might as well have said it to Eddie too.
He’d been stupid.
So fucking stupid.
“Mate.” Steve said firmly, making him flinch again and Joyce pause. “Whatever he said to you isn’t true.”
It was spoken to Hopper, though Eddie realized instantly after watching Joyce’s face darken in realization that it wasn’t said just for the Chief to hear.
Stve’s wolf apparently, was just as cunning as his human half was.
Their Alpha turned slowly, letting Jonathan fall gently into his chest before the other man righted himself, the two of them shielding Eddie with their bodies as Steve put his hands on either side of Eddie’s hips, palms flat on the counter.
“None of it is true.” He repeated firmly, wolf gold staring directly at him.
Eddie gulped, looked away.
“Okay.” He whispered, when it was clear Steve’s wolf wanted an answer.
He could tell he was being scrutinized. Figured if he cried now, hed’ ruin all the peace Jonathan and Joyce had just brought them.
So he cleared his throat, and mumbled a second time, “Okay.”
That seemed to satisfy.
“Guys, seriously.” Jonathan complained, leaning into their space slightly, pushing that quiet calm forward. “Can we go back to bed now?”
Steve huffed. In a very uncharacteristic gesture, he leaned across Eddie’s lap to press a chaste kiss to Jonathan’s cheek. It was probably the closest thing a human had to a wolf’s lick, intention wise, which was the only potential reason behind it Eddie’s brain could come up with before it damn near stalled out at the sight.
“Come, Mate. Our Omega wants to sleep.” Steve gently pulled Eddie off the counter, the other boy’s breath whooshing out in surprise. Eddie barely caught the blush that inflamed Jonathan’s face before as he was pulled right into Steve’s broad chest.
Did definitely catch the way Steve curled one arm possessively around his waist, before reaching out to touch Byer’s arm for no reason Eddie could figure out. He positioned him so that Eddie was between the two younger wolves, Jonathan closest to his mother and Hopper, the arm wrapped around him never leaving (and likely there in case Steve needed to pull him out of the way, behind him.)
“Go back to bed kids.” Joyce called over her shoulder, giving the three of them a gentle, mothering smile, one finger pressed firmly into Hopper’s chest as if to hold him still. “Call me if you need anything.”
“Okay mom.” Jonathan mumbled, and yup, his face was positively burning.
Eddie tucked that reaction away for later, as Steve and Jonathan both started forward, tugging him along between them.
They didn’t even make it all the way down the hall before the argument between Joyce and Hopper resumed, in a kind of hushed yelling that said they were trying to be quiet and not quite succeeding.
“What on earth possessed you-” was the starting words from Joyce at the same time Hopper whisper-shouted;
“I was handling it-”
Alexi’s quiet, musical laughter and Murray’s loud, deadpanned. “Clearly not.” followed.
Jonathan and Steve led him back to Jonathan’s room. A handful of the kids were holed up across the hallway in Will’s, the door firmly closed.
Superior werewolf senses let Eddie hear the light snoring coming from within, showing they at least had managed to keep the fight from the kids who were here, and found himself grateful that their group had chosen to split between the Pack’s two dens.
Meaning Robin and Nancy weren’t here at least, to see him fall apart.
Personally he’d prefer it if Jonathan and Steve weren’t either, but then, he had yet to manage not to shatter into pieces around his mate.
Apparently causing problems wasn’t the only thing he was cursed to keep repeating.
Steve walked them all to Jonathan’s bed like it was his own, door swinging closed behind him. He insisted Jonathan get in bed first with a gentle push, putting him closest to the wall.
He nudged Eddie in next, the metalhead climbing in silently, trying to ignore the awkwardness of sharing a close space with a packmate he barely knew.
Jonathan looked downright shy for a moment, averting his gaze as Eddie laid down next to him. That was sure to go away soon given both their Pack status and the fact there was zero space in this bed, though Eddie was struggling to recall much of Jonathan from their high school days..
What he did remember spoke to the elder-Byer’s just being the shy and quiet type in general.
It was only awkward for the moment it took Steve to drop down next to him on hands and knees, the man physically scooting Eddie closer to Jonathan which startled noises out of them both.
Steve apparently, wasn’t done just yet. He moved to hover over Eddie, their chests touching, as he pressed his forehead against Jonathan’s, eyes lidded.
“Thank you, Omega.” He said a painful amount of honesty in his voice. Jonathan hummed in response, sliding his own eyes closed as he relaxed down into the pillows under him.
Steve pulled back, gold eyes moving to look into Eddie’s own. “You belong with us. Here.” He said, the wolf speaking plainer than Steve the human over would.
He leaned down, pressing his forehead against Eddie’s forehead for a moment too, before swiftly turning the gesture in a deep, quick kiss.
“You are ours.” He continued when he pulled up, and now it was Eddie’s turn to blush horribly. “Now, we sleep.”
Then he fucking curled into Eddie’s side like he hadn’t just embarrassed the hell out of two of his packmates, sleep claiming him near instantly.
Not surprising considering his wounds, and the pack magic he had to have pulled to not only remain upright but threatening, but Eddie still wanted to groan about it, emotions rubbed raw by the morning's activities.
“That’s Steve for you.” Jonathan whispered in Eddie’s ear, though he refused to look at him when Eddie turned towards him. “Welcome to the team, Munson.”
“Thanks.” Eddie responded automatically. “I think.”
Jonathan laughed gently, breaking the awkward tension between them enough to allow both to slowly, quietly, drift to sleep.

The Hug
billy’s only familiar with negative physical touch(slaps, punches, pinching, getting shoved into whatever hard surface is around and so on),
he reckons it’s what he deserves after how he treated everyone, however, he can’t help but yearn to be held, embraced, by hopper. his recently adopted dad. although, no matter how strong his want for that was, he tried his best to not acknowledge it. block it out. ignore it.
thinks hopper would never do something so childish.
so instead, he sets out to annoy hopper with every chance presented to him. hoping to elicit some sort of reaction out of him whether it’s verbally or physically violent, he’ll take what he can get.
hopper catches on far too quickly, noticing billy’s attempts at trying to rile him up, get him to snap and break his promise to never hurt him.
so one day, while billy’s occupying himself with pushing jim’s buttons, hopper jumps off from his chair and strides towards the boy. billy thinking he’s finally caused the man to snap, ready to welcome the all-too-familiar sting on his face that’s expected.
but it never comes.
instead, he finds himself trapped between two strong arms. hoppers’ chin comfortably resting on top of billy’s head. curls tickling his nose.
“i’m not going to hurt you, kid. never. i don’t know what you thought was gonna happen but i would never put my hands on you. and i’ll never let anyone put their hands on you ever again.”
the two sat down, arms wrapped tightly around one another. tears prickling at the corners of billy’s eyes, the occasional sniffling coming from him as the feeling of warmth, comfort and happiness washed over him. he’d never felt so safe in his life.
afterwards, the hugs were almost routine. every morning, every night. every day. and they both loved it.

i so badly want one of those fic examinations of steve's relationship with joyce and hopper but solely through eddie's pov like hear me out
steve and eddie chat a lot in the upside down (and later in the hospital, when they learn hop is alive). steve has taken charge of filling eddie in on the rest of their of-age crew without the kids butting in. he never mentions his own parents, but he talks about the rest of the party's a lot, especially joyce and hopper. eddie knows what it's like to desperately want someone to be your parent and trying to hide it from his own childhood, when he would try to be cool about wayne dropping him off at his dad's house. steve obviously adores joyce and hopper, thinks the world of them and legitimately looks up to them.
eddie isn't sure what he expects from a cop who came back to life and the world's most determined housewife, but he's excited to meet them as someone steve loves.
cue eddie's horror when he realizes that neither of them really feel much for steve rather than annoyance and vague distrust. that joyce trusts will with eddie, an accused murderer, in a heartbeat and still hesitates to leave him with steve. that hopper brushes off every ounce of steve's hero worship and joy.
he tries to broach the topic with steve, gently, and is heartbroken when steve genuinely has no idea what he's talking about. and not because he's oblivious, but because steve thinks that's what he deserves. he thinks that's the parental love that someone who was an asshole in high school needs, because that's what would make him a good person. he needs people to call him out constantly, obviously, because why else would they keep doing it? why would nancy? at least they're here. at least they're not ignoring him. at least they're not forcing him into a box. they just want him to be better.
like, this is the man who thanked a girl for calling him bullshit and telling him she never loved him. he doesn't Know that's not how you're supposed to handle things. no one ever taught him that.
and now eddie's gotta figure out how he can teach steve how to be loved the right way without outing himself and his huge crush on his love-starved dork of a friend.

AU where Eddie’s mom manages to get away from Eddie’s dad when he’s a small child, goes to the only place she knows is truly safe: Wayne.
Wayne takes them in no questions asked, helps her raise Eddie, makes sure his dad never comes around (maybe works with Hopper once he’s named Chief to make sure he gets behind bars as soon as possible).
So Eddie gets the love of his mom, and the love of his Uncle Wayne, and shit is still hard, money is still tight, he still has trouble fitting in, but it doesn’t distract him from school so much.
He graduates his first try, squeaks by with Cs and Bs because he’s smart, he’s just so easily distracted. Even gets into the community college, but has no idea what he wants to do until his mom is helping him with a pre-req English course. She says he’s naturally good at unpacking a story for anyone to understand it -“even when I ain’t the brightest star in the sky”- and he realizes maybe his talent of telling stories and helping people understand stories could make him a good English teacher.
Now that he has a plan, he’s focused, invested on getting into a university so he can be certified to teach. But he still struggles with math and unfortunately, he has to pass to move on.
That’s where Steve Harrington, freshman at Hawkins Community and Technical College, comes in. This isn’t the Steve that Eddie remembers from high school at all: he’s quiet and shy, doesn’t make eye contact, is really fucking smart.
Steve agrees to tutor him if Eddie agrees to help him with his final paper in his English course, a 10 page fictional exploration of a time in history.
“Use your imagination!” “Just pretend you’re writing a memoir.” “This is the longest sentence I’ve ever read and that includes Tolkien books.”
Steve blushes, makes corrections when Eddie suggests them, makes flash cards with formulas for Eddie to memorize for his exam.
They spend nearly every day working together, studying together, tutoring each other.
When Eddie passes his exam, he’s so excited, he runs right to the library, where he knows Steve is putting the final touches on his paper. He doesn’t even wait to catch his breath from running across campus to kiss him.
And suddenly Eddie isn’t the only one out of breath.

𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐌𝐈𝐃𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝟑 𝐀.𝐌
Tumblr media
Pairing: Eddie x F!Hopper!Reader (adopted or not)
Summary: Your dad would never approve of your relationship with Eddie, so you sneak out for a night walk in the woods with him.
Tumblr media
00.13 a.m
"Where are you going?" Eleven's voice reached your ears as you got out of your bed trying not to make the slightest noise that could disturb the silent night.
You turned around as your bare feet touched the wooden floor, and you found your little sister sitting on her bed looking at you quizzically and half asleep, her wavy hair falling over her eyes.
You sighed, staring at the window you'd intended to jump down that night, the moonlight was filtering through the glass and reflecting off the floor as you walked over to El's bed. "Can you keep a secret like a good sister?"
She thought about it for a moment. "Am I not a good sister?"
"What? No, of course you are, it's just that... Dad doesn't have to know, okay?" You explained, whispering and hoping that Hopper in the room next to yours was snoring loud enough to drown out your voices.
El nodded.
"I'm seeing a boy."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
"Is he the boy with pretty eyes you were talking about last week?"
You froze, either El was a very smart kid or you weren't paying attention at all when you were talking about Eddie with her. "Yeah...yeah he is."
"Why Hopper doesn't have to know?"
"Because when your dad is a cop and your boyfriend has already been arrested three times, family dinners might get a little awkward."
El nodded, thinking silently. "Why was he arrested?"
"The first time because he caught him selling dr..." You stopped, thinking that these weren't things El should have known, cursing the thousand questions he could every time in your mind. "It's not really important."
"He's not a bad guy, is he? Hopper says he only arrests bad guys."
A corner of your lips lifted at the thought of El worrying about you. "No. Absolutely not. A lot of people think he is but...he's not. He's sweet and...he cares about me."
A smile appeared on the girl's lips. "He's like Mike!"
"Like Mike?" You scoffed. "He's way better than Mike."
She laughed, shaking her head.
"But it's very important that you don't tell dad, okay?"
She nodded. "Okay. Good luck with the boy with pretty eyes."
You giggled, bringing a hand to ruffle her hair. "You are the best sister ever."
You pulled on the boots you'd left in the corner of the room and grabbed a jacket off a chair.
El waved to you as you slowly opened the window and sat on the edge, breathing in the fresh but not too cold air of the night.
You waved back to her and smiled before jumping out the window, your boots making a soft thud as they hit the wood of the porch.
You looked around for a moment, enjoying the silence of the night which wasn't really a silence, after all.
You could hear an owl in the distance, the croaking of frogs and the squealing of some of the small animals that lived in the woods. Two bats flew over you one after the other almost as if they were playing and you instinctively ducked so as not to collide with them.
You looked around, searching for the spot among the trees and bushes where the path that would take you to where Eddie told you you would meet started.
You breathed in the air that smelled of moss and wet grass. Then, after taking one last look at your house, you went into the woods.
Tumblr media
00.39 a.m
When you saw him, his back was leaning against a big old looking tree, he was wearing a black shirt with a red flannel over it. As soon as he saw you a big smile appeared on his face as he walked towards you.
You'd always loved the way his face lit up whenever he saw you, as if just your presence made him happier.
It was night and probably someone would have been frightened to see a figure in the woods walking towards them, in the dark of the night illuminated only by the light of the moon, but not you, you would have recognized him even without the slightest light.
"Hey, princess. I almost thought your dad caught you." He said as he reached up to you and his lips met yours in a quick but soft kiss.
"Baby, you know I love you-"
"But?" His expression suddenly turned concerned.
"But you could have chosen a more recognizable place, I walked around this fucking wood for half an hour before I found you." You chuckled before pushing him back towards you, placing a hand behind his neck as your fingers tangled with his hair. "But you're worth it."
When your lips parted, Eddie looked at the tree he was leaning against some moments bofore. "But I described this tree to you perfectly!"
You rolled your eyes. "No, you told me it looked like Treebeard from the Lord of the Rings. And trust me, even though I've read it dozens of times it wasn't that easy to find."
He chuckled as he put his arm around your shoulders and started your night walk.
"Did you just say you've read The Lord of the Rings dozens of times?"
You huffed but raised an arm to intertwine your fingers with his. "That wasn't the point."
When you felt his fingers brushing your face, you turned your head towards his hand to leave a kiss on his knuckles.
A smirk was on his lips now. "I knew my girlfriend was a nerd."
Tumblr media
1.26 a.m
"She has hair like yours, but her ears are pointed, because, you know, she's an elf. She's kind and always willing to help her companions but it's best not to make her mad because she's also a ruthless killer who won't hesitate to cut your insides to pieces if you do hurt her family." Eddie continued to tell you about his latest DnD campaign, describing the new characters in great detail, his arm still around your shoulders as you continued walking through the woods, following the path.
When you went out at night to meet him in the woods like that, sometimes you were afraid that you would get lost and that you would never be able to get out again, but then you always remembered that you had Eddie by your side and that if something like that happened he would turn him into a another one of your adventures.
"Her eyes the exact same shade as yours and-"
"Wait…did you base one of your characters on me?" You asked with a smirk.
"Maybe?" His uncertain tone let you know that the sincere answer would be yes.
"Well, what an honor, I wonder if-"
A sudden rustle coming from the bushes in front of you made you stop, your last words echoing in the silence of the woods.
"Did you hear that?" You asked, your voice reduced to a whisper.
"Yeah." Eddie's arm was softly pushing you behind him, as if to protect you from some possible danger but you stopped him and stayed beside him even after his glare.
"What if it's a wolf?" You asked as you continued to stare at the bushes moving.
"There are no wolves in Indiana."
"How do you know?"
"I've never seen one."
"Yes, because they usually hide behind bushes like that one."
When the snout of a weird animal popped up in the branches, your grip on Eddie's arm loosened.
"Oh, it doesn't look like a wolf."
A raccoon scrurred towards you, sniffing the ground probably looking for something to eat.
"Hey Buddy!" Eddie exclaimed as if he was saying hi to an old friend.
You brought your arms to your sides. "What? Do you know the raccoon?"
"I think it's the same one who's always hanging around the trailer area. Sometimes I leave him food." He explained with a smile on his lips as he knelt down and the raccoon approached him curiously.
"Eddie, it could carry some disease."
"Oh, shut up. Look how cute he is."
"All right, Snow White, go ahed. Don't come complaining to me when you have rabies." You commented as Eddie patted the raccoon's head like it was a puppy.
Eddie Munson.
The boy that people thought was a cult leader who worshiped the devil.
The boy who tried to hide his true feelings and his soft side to protect himself, creating an armor around himself, through which only those who really knew him could see.
Eddie Munson, who was called a "freak" by almost every single Hawkings resident, was kneeling in the mud to pet a raccoon, claiming he was "cute".
When he stood up, you instinctively pushed him towards you for a kiss, his lips were warm even if the night was cool.
He smiled. "What was this for?"
"Because you are so fucking pretty."
He scoffed. "Pretty? I'm not pr-"
He didn't have time to reply that your lips were on his again."Don't argue with me."
A kind of squeak, after a few minutes, made you separate.
Between your feet, walked four little raccoons, their black and white muzzles pointed at you, as if asking what the hell you were doing in the woods in the middle of the night.
"I think your raccoon is a mom."
Eddie chuckled when one of them tried to climb up your leg, falling after a few seconds.
"Who is Snow White now?"
"Oh, shut up."
Tumblr media
2.00 a.m
"I don't wanna do that anymore." You said as you sat next to Eddie at the foot of one of the trees around Lover's Lake.
The moonlight reflected off the water surface creating an atmosphere of complete calm and the croaking of the frogs was all around you.
Eddie turned to you with a worried expression, you could almost see his anxiety suddenly rise and you cursed your choice of words.
"Are you breaking up with me?"
"No!" You exclaimed, perhaps a little too quickly. "No, absolutely not. I meant hiding."
"Hiding?"
"Going out at night, you know. I want to tell my father about us." You explained.
A gust of wind rustled the leaves and nearly drowned out Eddie's only word. "Oh."
"Is that a problem?"
"Not for me. It sure will be for him though. I don't think he likes me very much." He added the last part with a not-quite-genuine chuckle, probably thinking back to all the times he'd been arrested before.
"Eddie, I love you. So he'll get over it."
He pulled you closer to him, until you sat between his legs, and planted a kiss on your head as you rested your back against his chest. "I love you too" He murmured. "But I'm not sure your family would approve."
"Oh, my sister already knows about us." You commented, saying it like it was nothing important, but waiting for his reaction.
"What?"
You raised your head slightly towards him, your nose brushed his cheek.
"She caught me sneaking out." You explained. "But she said she's happy for us."
Eddie let out what felt like a sigh of relief.
"Good, because I don't want the little girl with superpowers against me." He chuckled.
"I would protect you with my life." You were joking, even though what you were saying wasn't too far from reality.
He giggled when you dropped a few kisses on his neck, since you couldn't reach his face from your position.
"And what about your father?" he asked after a few moments.
"He's never even given you a fine. And trust me, he usually gives a lot of them. I think he kinda likes you already."
"But he put handcuffs on me once."
"And you ran away and kept them."
His laughter echoed through the trees as his chest vibrated against your back. "I did."
"No, but seriously." You added. "I wanna tell him. And if he doesn't approve, fuck him. I'm happy when I'm with you."
Eddie held you tighter, but, as always, careful not to hurt you, enjoying the last few moments together before you both have to go home.
"He's really gonna put me in jail, this time."
You chuckled, shaking your head.
"I'll post bail."
Tumblr media
3.14 am
You knew something was wrong when you saw that the light in your room was on.
Getting in from the window, you found yourself in front of Hopper, sitting on your bed with his arms crossed over his chest and the most pissed expression ever.
"I swear I didn't say anything!" El exclaimed, sitting cross-legged on her bed. You knew from her almost desperate tone that she meant it.
"You are up early this morning, aren't you?" You asked with a half laugh, trying to defuse.
"There are two options." He said curtly pointing an accusing finger at you. "You're either a werewolf or you owe me an explanation."
You thought about it for a moment.
"I am a werewolf?"
Not even El could hold back a laugh.

Billy’s not expecting the call from his dad.
“Billy?” Hop sounds distant, the faint sound of an idling engine in the background. Billy blinks, because his dad is at work and as far as Billy knows that usually means sitting behind a desk at the station and arguing with Flo.
“Don’t you have paperwork to be doing?” Billy says and Hopper snorts. There’s the sound of background traffic that’s then shut out by the clang of a car door.
“Don’t give me cheek, I am still the chief,” Hopper says as though that means anything in a small town where the most crime that they get is some drunk idiot attempting to rob the gas station.
“Yes, sir,” Billy quips and changes the channel. No one else is home and he’s bored. Jon and Joyce are still at work, and El and Will are doing weird nerd activities. The diner didn’t have a shift for him today and he doesn’t have a date, so he came home. He’d half expected someone to be here, instead of getting stuck with a protein bar and old reruns.
“That’s more like it,” Hopper says and then clears his throat awkwardly. “I was just wondering…are you definitely single?”
“Dad,” Billy says, attention now fully away from the TV set. Hop’s called him before, to ask him shit like do they need milk and to take the trash out. He doesn't call to talk about Billy's love life. They never talk about that, not after that time Hopper came in his room without knocking. “What is your next question, because this could make the next family dinner a little uncomfortable.”
“Don’t be a dick,” Hopper gripes. There’s the sudden cackle of laughter in the background and Billy sits up.
“Are you with someone?” he asks and then sucks in a breath at the implications. “Did you put me on speaker?”
“I may have done,” Hopper says, sounding sheepish. “I just picked up a young man outside the movie theatre and he’s about your age…”
“I’m nineteen!” the mystery guy hollers from the backseat. Hopper keeps talking like the guy hadn’t spoken.
“I don’t know, I just thought he was your type.”
Billy presses a hand to his temple, unable to believe that his dad has just said those words. “What’s my type?” he asks, wondering if he’s going to combust right here and now. Hopper makes that little awkward throat clearing again, like he can’t believe the situation either.
“You know,” he says stiffly. “Sort of…pretty.”
Oh God. Billy can never look Hopper in the eye again.
“You think I’m pretty?” the guy asks curiously, and Billy can’t blame him for sounding a bit weirded out.
“I think you look like a lot of the doe-eyed pretty-boys my son brings home,” Hopper snaps. Despite his obvious discomfort, Billy can’t help the rush of affection at Hopper trying to be supportive. Neil would have beat the shit out of him. Hopper tries to hook him up with appropriately aged delinquents in the back of the police car.
“A lot?” the guy asks and Billy flushes. He then regrets it because he has no idea if he even wants to impress whatever guy Hopper has picked up.
“It’s not a lot,” he says defensively because Hawkins isn’t exactly big on the gay scene. His last boyfriend he met at Tina’s Halloween party and to be fair, if you wear a kilt and not a lot else to a party in October, Billy’s absolutely going to beg you to rail him in the downstairs cloakroom. The relationship hadn't exactly worked out.
“Look, I get the feeling I’m never going to hear the end of this so here’s the situation,” Hopper says, sounding tired. “This is my son, Billy. He’s about to finish high school, he likes cars and burgers and loud music. He has shit taste in men even though he’s attractive, clever and a smart mouth. Billy, this is Steve. I was on my way back from the mayor’s office when I caught him peeing in an alley. Judging by his big brown eyes and the fact that public nudity doesn’t seem to be a problem for him, I thought of you.”
“Aww,” Billy drawls, sitting back on the couch. There are lights in the drive so someone has just arrived home. Which is good because he needs to tell everyone this story so they can give Hopper shit about it over dinner. “Pops, that’s so sweet.”
“Don’t say I never do anything for you,” Hopper says, like he hasn’t already done everything for Billy by getting him out, giving him a home. “I’ll take an extra polaroid when I process him.”
“I had to take a leak!” Steve protests and Hopper sucks in air through his teeth.
“There are public bathrooms, kid, I’ve heard those work pretty well. Billy, help your mom with dinner when she gets home.” Sucks for Hopper, it’s Jon heading up the path, keys dangling from his fingers. Billy can’t wait to tell him this story.
“Or what, you won’t bring me any more dates?” Billy asks, but he’s only half-joking. Hopper means well and kind of fucks it up a lot but this time he might have hit it right on the money. He thinks he might like Steve.
“Do I get a picture?” Steve asks. “Or does the Hawkins Police just pimp out young innocent men with full bladders?”
Oh yeah. He’s definitely going to like Steve.
“I have a picture on my desk,” Hopper admits grumpily. There’s the jangle of keys in the door as Jonathan lets himself in. “You can look at it if you’re good.”
“And what if I’m not?” Steve asks and Jonathan walks in just in time to raise his eyebrows at Billy.
“I can help punish him, if he’s not,” Billy suggests, and Hopper hangs up the phone just as Steve begins to laugh.
This has probably been done before because it's based on that famous tumblr post but it's so dull during school holidays I have nothing to do but write. And I have no in progress Harringrove fics which is probably a problem I should fix.

Steve came home from work one day pissed as hell. His coworker had made three of his little ones cry, the service dog that was supposed to visit the long-term patients was cancelled last minute, Dustin texted him to cancel their weekly phone call because he and Suzie were fighting, Hopper had to postpone his monthly check-in because El caught a stomach bug at school, and Mrs. Ryans stopped him in the lobby to tell him that she's praying his "no good devil worshipping roommate" received the damnation he supposedly deserves.
So Steve burst into his home, fuming, face flushed red in his anger, and startled poor Eddie out of his armchair. "I called Mrs. Ryans a stupid old hag and I'm not apologizing!" He announced, practically throwing his shoes into their proper place. "She's stupid and I hope she breaks her other hip."
Eddie started his usual task of making brownies (he's a firm believer that chocolate can make anything better, and he knows that Steve's got an almost pavlovian response to the smell of brownies now) while Steve changes out of his scrubs and into something more comfortable. He'd completely bypassed his own closet, instead stealing one of Eddie's prized Iron Maiden tees to go with his threadbare pajama bottoms. Eddie opened his mouth to ask what had happened that day to make Steve so upset, but Steve didn't let him.
"Seriously, why does she hate you so much? You're like the sweetest person ever. So I told her to stop talking shit about you, and she was like, 'why should I,' so I told her that my baby sister would slap the wig off her bald little head if she kept being shitty to my boyfriend, and I might have actually given her a heart attack. Should we go check on her?" Eddie froze at Steve's admission; first of all, a baby sister?? But, more pressing, boyfriend. "Oh, my god, I might have killed our elderly neighbor. El wouldn't actually slap her! Wait, yes she would. She's still learning social norms and I don't think Hop told her that hitting old people is frowned on. I don't- does Hop know not to hit old people? Eddie, my dad might abuse the elderly."
"Stevie, honey, slow down," he finally settled on. Eddie bypassed their little dining table to sit Steve on the couch. "One thing at a time. Mrs. Ryans is not dead, we'd have heard all the munchkins singing by now."
"I'm not going to prison for shocking our neighbor to death, Eddie, I'd rather be melted into a giant flesh monster," Steve piped up. Eddie didn't have time to unpack whatever that meant, so he ignored it.
"You're talking about your sister like she's not used to humans."
"She's not, really. She was ex- she was, um, bad home life. Before we met. She's Hopper's daughter now, but before, her dad fucked her up. Like, doomsday, raise the children in isolation, fucked up." Steve was marginally calmer, but his anger gave way to nerves as everything he'd said caught up with him. "I called you my boyfriend."
"Good to know you've got beauty and brains, sweetheart," Eddie cooed at him, smacking an exaggerated kiss to his cheek. "Not every day I have such a cute guy screaming at old ladies for me."
"J-just the one old lady. You're not mad I called you my boyfriend?" Eddie paused there, giving Steve the flattest stare he could manage.
"Steve. I've been flirting with you for two years. Bruce has been trying to get me to propose to you for one of those two years."
"Bruce just had a baby, he should worry about-"
"Bruce tried to explain to you that we're dating and you called him a funny guy, honey. Congrats, you're the last to know."
"We're dating?" Steve shrieked, and Eddie couldn't help but laugh. Steve's face was so incredulous, like he really had no idea, and as sad as it was to see that, it was just too funny to Eddie that they'd been dating in almost every sense for more than a year before Steve seemed to be aware of it. "Are you telling me I could have kissed you this whole time?"
"Well, yeah, obviously. Stevie, you really didn't know? I thought it was obvious how much I love you, sweetheart."

Your under ar- where'd he go.
Eddie munson x hopper!reader
Summary: I'm living for Eddie x hoppers daughter so... Eddie gets arrested by hopper and daniels one night and he manages to run away. But he runs to your house. Still in cuffs.
"Don't make this harder, then it needs to be, munson," Hopper said, cuffing Eddie's hands behind his back. Eddie got caught driving while smoking a joint. Now he's pressed up against his van with hopper, cuffing him and Officer daniels taking notes.
Eddie starts to think. He could try to pick the cuffs, but the hopper would notice. Then he had an amazing idea. With his hands still close together, Eddie was able to slip two of the rings off of his left hand and hold them in his right.
He peeked over his shoulder quickly to see hopper looking at daniels as they spoke. Eddie moved his hands slightly to the left and threw them as hard as he could at the side of the van. Hopper let go of eddies back as his hand flew to the gun in his pocket. Officer daniels did the same.
With them both distracted Eddie bolted. He ran as fast as he could. "OH shit munson!" Hopper shouted behind him. But Eddie didn't stop. The to cops chase after him but they eventually run out of breath and have to stop. Giving Eddie the perfect escape route.
"How is that kid so fast?" Officer daniels pants. "Not a bloody clue" Hopper says whipping the swet off his head. But it leads Hopper to think. Where could he possibly go with cuffs on.
-
Your laying in your bed listening to music quietly as you rearrange your room... again...
Els sat in the living room watching TV. She hears a knock at the door. An eager, frustrated, sounding knock. Els not allowed to answer the door. "Y/n, there's someone banging on the door." She calls out for you.
You exit your room and approach the living room door grabbing the bat by the door and checking the guns still behind the door. This could be anyone from a drunk Nancy to the government looking for el. Your taking no chances.
You open the door and raise the bat as a warning. "Christ y/n don't hit me." Eddie shouts. You lower the back seeing it only being your boyfriend. You rush him Inside confused by his antics. Then you see his hands in cuffs behind his back and him out of breath dripping with swet.
"Are you OK? Why are you in cuffs? What happend?" You panic slightly. Eddie steps to you trying to hold you but being stopped by the handcuffs... then looking annoyed and just pissed.
"Babe I'm fine. I was smoking a joint while driving home and I got pulled by your amazing father and daniels. Calm down hunny." Eddie says smiling at you. You guide him to the kitchen.
You go through the draw of keys seeing if one will fit in the key hole of the cuffs. To your luck one do and you free Eddie. He rubs his wrists and you see the red imprints the cuffs left on him. "Thanks princess" he says hugging you finally. You hug him back.
He looks down and kisses you sweetly. "What would I do without ya?" HE says keeping his face close to yours.
"Still be in handcuffs." You laugh kissing Eddie. He nods raising his brows. You stay like that in the kitchen for a moment when you hear the front door unlock, open, and get closed and locked.
You hear the drop of your dad's heavy boots. "You OK dad?" El askes frowning at him.
"I'm fine we arrested munson boy but he ran away and now I've lost another set of perfectly good cuffs to that little shit." HE complains about to el hanging his coat up. As he sits in his recliner you enter the living room smiling.
Before hopper can say anything Eddie steps in behind you swinging the cuffs on one finger. "OH these cuffs Jim?" Eddie askes grinning ear to ear. You look to your dad and see the annoyance take over. "You really ran away from me and came to my house." HE says angrily. Eddie nods still grinning.
Then your dad's eyes snap to you. "We had the key so I unlocked them." You say smiling worriedly. "OH relax babe he's just annoyed you got to see me before he did." Eddie says trying to get you out the shit for helping him.
"You know what I'm to tired for this shit. Munson you win this one but I'll get ya next time." Hopper says leaning back in his seat as el passes him a cup of tea. He smiles at her.
"Sure hop maybe I'll let you win when I get some bail money in let you feel victorious." Eddie says sitting next to you pulling you into his side. Everyone stays quiet as the show plays on the TV. You yawn and suggest bed and your dad tells Eddie he can stay the night door stays open. You enter your room and Eddie closes the door.
You change into one of Eddie's hoodies he left once and he just strips into boxers. You get into your bed and eddies hand finds your ass giving it a squeeze while smirking.
"Please stop getting in trouble with my dad I'm sick of getting the cuffs off of you." You mumble.
"NO promises." HE smirks eyes closed.
"Atleast try for me?" You ask moving closer.
"OK ill try." HE mumbles back in pretend annoyance.
"Thank you."
"I love you." He says kissing you sweetly.
"I love you too."
"I love you more."
"Bitch."
"You love it."
As you both start to drift off to sleep. Your door flings open "door. Stays. Open. For gods sake." You dad shouts walking off. You throw your head on the pillow as Eddie laughs quietly.
"See babe I'm made for causing trouble to your dad. I'm breaking the rules just laying here." HE smirks kissing you smirking.
He was an absolute idiot. But you wouldn't have him any other way.

Single Dad!Eddie x Fem!ReaderSeries
Day 9 of TUI-Mas
Warnings: pregnancy, angst, mention of Harris's bio mom, happy ending I swear
WC: 1.5k
September 1999
Another school year is underway, the warm weather slightly chilled with the beginnings of an autumn breeze. The leaves remain on the branches of the oak tree in front of Jeff and Viv’s house, providing a sliver of shade as you walk up the front steps.
The two of you try to get together once in a while for a mom lunch; Eddie usually brings Harris over to play with Ettie while he and Jeff reminisce about the good old days of Hellfire Club and playing pranks on Principal Higgins. Today, however, Harris is at Wayne’s for some “Grampa-Har Bear bonding time,” so you and your husband are on your own.
“You look gorgeous,” Eddie murmurs in your ear as you ring the doorbell, hearing the chime softly echo from within the house. “Wish that wasn’t a maternity dress so you could wear it all the time.”
You roll your eyes at his flirtatiousness, a giggle giving away how tickled you are at the compliment. You truly do feel beautiful in this dress; the skirt swishes around your ankles with each gentle movement like you’re a princess.
Viv opens the door with a smile far too wide for someone who can’t get a cocktail with her entree. “Come on in, head into the kitchen and grab some water. It’s still pretty hot out there.”
“But then I’ll have to pee.” Your unborn son seems to enjoy using your bladder as a makeshift drum set; Eddie has been telling Gareth that he’ll have some competition for the band’s percussionist once the baby arrives. Still, you oblige, trudging towards the overhead cupboard to grab a—
“SURPRISE!”
Your heart leaps at the burst of voices; you bring a palm to your chest. “Wh-What?”
“It’s your baby shower, my love.” Eddie stands behind you and rests his head on your shoulder, hands wrapping around your bump. “To celebrate Baby Munson.”
“Oh, my God.” Tears spring to your eyes and roll down your cheeks in rivulets, no doubt smearing the mascara you’d applied before arriving. You give Viv a squeezing hug—the best you can manage with both of you pregnant—and turn to the group of people in her living room.
Robin and Jess jump up from the sofa to embrace you, and your co-workers whom Viv’s invited follow suit. You get choked up yet again when you spot Max Mayfield next in line to greet you.
“Did you really fly in for this?” you ask incredulously, pulling back to get a better look at her. She’s cut her bright red hair a little shorter so it frames her face and her blue eyes hold the exhaustion from her demanding doctorate program, but she’s still the same Max you know and love.
She nods enthusiastically. “I wouldn’t miss this for the world.” She leans in and whispers, “I knew you were the one for Eddie from the first time I saw how he looked at you. Like you’re this flower that blooms no matter the weather.”
“Okay, Almost-Doctor of English literature,” you tease her poetic waxing. Jane Hopper shyly steps out from behind her and you hug her as well.
Viv clears her throat to grab the party’s attention. “Thank you all for being here today,” she begins timidly, not used to having all eyes on her. “Since Baby Munson seems to have a major sweet tooth, we’re skipping a formal lunch and going straight to dessert!” Her announcement is met with cheers and she directs the guests towards the abundance of cakes and cookies in the kitchen.
You’re pulled towards the scent of freshly-brewed coffee, still steaming in the carafe. “That one’s decaf,” Viv informs you, pointing to the pot on the left hand side. You pick it up, careful not to burn your knuckles on the hot glass, and tilt it into a paper cup with Showers of Love for Baby Munson stamped on the side.
“Should you be drinking coffee?” Genuine concern seeps from Eddie’s words. “I mean, is it safe for the baby?” Before you can respond, he’s taking the cup from your grasp and placing it on the kitchen counter.
You furrow your brows, the tiniest disbelieving laugh escaping your lips. There’s no way he’s serious, right?
“Eds, it’s decaf,” you reassure him, still unsure of his intentions. “Besides, having a little bit of coffee isn’t going to hurt the baby.” You reach for the cup, but he just pushes it back farther from you.
His jaw steels, carefully mulling over his words despite his building frustration towards your dismissiveness. “Right, but it still contains trace amounts of caffeine. And it could stunt his growth and lead to, like, brain development issues.”
“Look,” you seeth, a hushed tone poorly masking your raging hormones, “I don’t need you hovering over me, okay? Do you not trust me or something?”
“I do. I do trust you.” But there’s a telltale pause beforehand that makes you believe otherwise. He notices your small step back, a dagger dangling just above your heart. “Sweetheart, it’s–”
You walk away with a shake of your head, determined to enjoy your baby shower. Eddie is a protective person–it’s one of his qualities that you most admire–but this errs on the side of controlling.
Dutifully, you sit down on your chair at the head of the Reynolds’ living room, digging into a slice of vanilla sponge cake and easing back into the upbeat atmosphere. You unwrap boxes of cartoon-stamped shirts and onesies, the tiniest clothing articles you’ve ever seen. Max has even managed to find a pajama set with the outline of an electric guitar stitched on the front. Your lap overflows with bottles, crib sheets, and pacifiers while Eddie hangs back in the kitchen.
“This last one is just a little something we all chipped in for,” Jess announces, excitedly thrusting a small envelope in your direction. You tuck your thumb under the seal and open it, revealing a gift card to Enzo’s.
“For your first date night after Baby Munson’s arrival,” Viv chimes in, her fingers curling around her own coffee cup. “Jeff and I will babysit,” she offers kindly. “It’s important to keep the romance alive.”
Robin scoffs from her corner of the sofa. “Yeah, like these two will have a problem with that.” She playfully rolls her eyes. “If you look up ‘lovesick’ in the dictionary, you’ll find their pictures.”
Your cheeks burn with embarrassment’s heat as everyone else agrees with her. From the corner of your eye, you see Eddie pouring a fresh cup of decaffeinated coffee and preparing it just as you like it. He shuffles into the room, his empty hand shoved into his front pocket. The brush of his lips on your scalp is an apology, a sentiment you both echo and accept with a squeeze of his forearm.
“See?” Robin continues with a teasing grin. “Absolutely sickening.”
“Thank you guys,” Eddie says, resting his palms on your shoulder as you take a sip of coffee. “For the gift card, for the shower, for always supporting us.”
You place your hand on your bump and nod. “Baby Munson is already feeling the love,” you agree. As if emphasizing your point, he softly kicks within your womb in a heartbeat-esque flutter.
The car ride home is quiet but not uncomfortable, you and Eddie unwinding after the eventful day. Angus Young croons in the background as Eddie speaks.
“I trust you.” His fingers hover over your thigh, hesitant to touch you if you’re still angry with him. “And I know you’re not…I know this isn’t like with Harris…” He stumbles over his words, trying not to offend you while still making a point.
“Eds.” You hold his hand in yours, eyes shiny with understanding. The unconditional love you have for Harris, the ease with which he calls you ‘Mommy,’ often has you forgetting that you’re not his biological mother. “I’ll never, ever do anything to hurt our children. I feel bad enough when I accidentally step on Harris’s toes.” You lean over and kiss his cheek, leaving a remnant of lipstick on his stubble. “Decaf coffee, in moderation, is fine during pregnancy.”
Eddie lets go of you to rub the swell of your stomach. “Little man’s not gonna be doing backflips in there?” he asks with a mischievous grin, the tension between you dissipating.
You laugh and shake your head. “Nope, just doing his best Pelé impression,” you say with a wince as the baby kicks again.
He notices when you stifle a yawn moments later. “I’ll wake you when we get home,” he promises, lowering the radio so you can rest.
You’re lulled to sleep as he drives, hearing him hum along with the music under his breath. Since your eyes are closed, you don’t catch the way he looks over at you and smiles.
“Love you, sweet girl,” he whispers, bringing his attention back to the road but keeping his thoughts trained on the woman he loves.

Steve felt numb. There had been such a strong mix of good news and bad news and Steve didn't know how to deal with any of it.
Max is alive. Sort of. She's brain dead, which Steve understands as her just being dead. A beating heart doesn't change the fact that she, Max, isn't there anymore.
She's just a body with a beating heart, everything that made her Max is gone. The scolding looks, mocking tone she'd take, the way she'd put on a silly voice and call Steve 'Dad' whenever he worried over her too much. The way she sometimes called him Dad like she meant it, like she genuinely saw him as a father figure.
The way she would insist on him driving her to school and playing some of Billys mixtapes. The way she had cried when she told Steve how guilty she felt for loving Steve, the way she should have loved Billy.
But Eleven keeps trying to bring her back. Every day she goes back to that hospital room, holds onto Max with a bruising grip, trying to bring her back.
And Eddie. Steve still isn't sure how he'd been able to drag him out, running on pure fear and adrenaline. Somehow they'd gotten him to a hospital in time, they'd been able to stitch him together- but it's still touch and go. He's so severelly injured and they have him on so many drugs that, even when he's awake, he's not really. There's so much internal damage too that the doctors can't be sure he'll make it.
But he's alive. He's still fighting through it. And they're clearing his name. Hopper and some agents, working relentlessly on alibis and redirecting the blame. Its hard work, but it's working. And it's good news, Eddie will finally be seen as the good guy he is. But he's still potentially dying.
And Steve is so tired. He doesn't even have the energy to be worried when he sees his parents car in the driveway.
He stops when he finally gets inside though, blinking at the three suitcases he'd be given for travelling, clearly stuffed full. "Uh. Hello? Mom?"
It's his dad that storms in, expression thunderous. He's holding the vest Eddie gave him, waving it like it's damning evidence. "Did you think we wouldn't find out? You and that freak, Munson."
Steve stares at him for a moment. He's so tired, he's ran out of... everything. He doesn't even feel angry. Doesn't even feel irritated enough to roll his eyes. Simply sighs, holds hand ok, giving a defeated, "ok."
"Ok? That all you have to say for yourself?"
"Yeah, pretty much. I'm tired."
His dad scoffs, throws the vest at him as hard as he can. "Go find some hole to crawl inside of then. Change your name."
Steve puts the vest on, ignoring the way his dad flushes red, veins bursting out with his rage. He struggles to get all three suitcases in his hands, but he manages. "Mom not here?"
"She deserves better than what you've become," he sniffs, looking down on him.
"She deserves better than a cheating husband who doesn't love her." He glances to the kitchen. Raises his voice a little, just enough for anyone downstairs to hear him say, "she doesn't know about your secretary though, huh?"
He makes his leave as quick as he can, already sat in the drivers seat by the time his dad storms outside, yelling.
He spends that night in Eddies hospital room. Eddie even makes room for him to curl up next to him- it's a little awkward with the tubes and wires, but they manage it. The nurses aren't happy when they find them, their limbs tangled up together.
Robin looks painfully amused when she finds him sat on the floor outside the hospital, barely stopping herself from laughing when he explains that he was kicked out. She's not as happy when she finds out that he's homeless now but, like Eddie had told him, he has plenty of options.
It's only an hour later that Wayne Munson and Claudia Henderson are arguing about whos spare room would be better for Steve to stay in. It doesn't help when El throws in Hoppers cabin as an option, holding Steves hand and looking up at him with wide, sad eyes.

Hopper requests? Say less…😂 How about something wholesome with El? Like Hopper was worried about El warming up to reader but he ends up having nothing to worry about?
I love your writing by the way!
thank you for your request! fem!reader, 1k
Hopper loves El like any father loves their daughter, any parent their child, which is to say, he loves her and he knows her flaws. She’s a great kid but she has her problems, just as he does.
She’s angry sometimes, and she can’t cope with things she doesn’t like, and honestly, she’s allowed to be mad at the world (or at least he thinks so), but again, he loves her. He has to teach her that she can’t always get what she wants, even when she deserves it.
He’s a little tough on her. He’s been a bad dad to her, sometimes, he knows that. He doesn’t deserve her, but he’ll keep trying.
He doesn’t deserve you, either, but he has you.
He’s not expecting you in his home, though. He’s barely mentioned you to El —he didn’t know how she’d react. It hasn’t been that long since her last outburst.
“What does that mean?” she asks.
Your shoes are by the door, he’d know your beaten up sneakers anywhere, and El’s talking to someone with their head turned away from the door. It’s dark, the only light from the TV and the weak orange kitchen lamp, but he can tell it’s you.
“What does what mean?” you ask.
He panics and relaxes, a paradox of behaviour as he closes the door softly behind him. His head races with thoughts of what El might do without a pep talk before meeting you even as his hands itch to be on you. He hasn’t seen you for a few days, which is a few too many in his book.
“Respect.”
“You and Hop must’ve talked about respect before.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Well, some people think respect is earned, and some people think you should have it anyways. I think it’s both, you know? It’s kindness and… politeness. You respect your dad by keeping your room clean, and saying thank you for dinner, and he respects you by saying thank you for keeping your room clean, and making you dinner. Though he should pretty much always be making you dinner. Does that make sense?”
He can’t not be soothed by you. The way you’re talking to her melts his heart.
“No,” El says succinctly.
Hopper holds in a laugh.
“Um… okay. So, I respect your dad–”
“Hop?”
“Yeah, baby,” you say gently. “Sorry. I respect Hop because he’s a good man. So I try to be good to him. He respects me for some reason,” —you notice him and give him a flirty, sweet, slightly nervous smile— “so he opens doors for me and tucks my chair in at the dinner table.”
“He puts my coat on the hook for me.”
You nod happily. “Right! That’s respect. And love, too.”
“You’re here?” Hopper asks.
El turns to him with a timid smile to match yours. “I let her in. She did the knock.”
“I didn’t realise it was secret,” you explain. “You do it sometimes, on the side of the car door. I couldn’t get you at the station, I thought you were home–”
“It’s okay.” He leans down to drop a kiss against your crown. “S’fine,” he says into your skin. “I can see you’re all introduced.” The secret knock isn’t even really in practice anymore.
“She’s your girlfriend?” El asks him.
Hopper doesn’t answer. Girlfriend feels odd sometimes when you’re older, because you’re a lot more than what the word might imply, but he likes the idea of it, too. “I wanted to introduce you on Friday. You know, the special dinner I mentioned?”
“Right. Why I need to clean my room,” El says, frowning.
“Exactly.” Hopper pats her back where she’s sat across from you.
“Now I don’t need to anymore?”
“No, you do,” Hopper says.
El frowns deeper. “Because I respect you.”
“Maybe one day.”
El’s only recently re-entered society. She’s stressing Hopper out, what with it being summer soon and her growing curiosity for the world, and he’s worried she won’t get along with people because she’s behind in terms of experience, but mostly he’s sick of arguing with her about leaving the bath water in and how much sugar she’s allowed each day.
He’d hoped to explain things to you in better detail. El’s a special case. She needs more patience than most kids (and maybe she doesn’t always get it). He didn’t doubt you’d be good to her, and it’s still a shock when you reach across the table to hold her hand and she doesn’t yank hers away.
“I can help, if you want. It gets overwhelming sometimes,” you say.
“How come you don’t help?” El asks Hopper.
“Because you don’t need help putting your clothes in the laundry, kid, you just don’t like doing it.”
“What Hop doesn’t understand is that we’re girls and we have better stuff to do,” you say, stroking the back of her hand with your thumb.
You have dinner together, and you watch a movie. Hopper can’t believe how well it goes, or how much El seems to like you. She sits between you and Hopper on the couch in demonstration of her lack of tact and he can tell you don’t care. He doesn’t care either. In a way, it’s nice to spoil El with affection she’s not used to having. Joyce is always, always kind to El when they see one another, but that’s not often. He hadn’t realised how badly El wanted some motherly attention, or how quick you are to give it.
He should’ve guessed. You’re nice to him, and he’s an idiot.
“I wish it was longer,” El whispers. Hopper looks over her head at you.
“Why?” you ask, pulling her hair in a circle around your finger. “It looks so pretty like this.” You ruffle her hair and tuck it behind her ear.
El shivers at the touch. “You think I'm pretty?”
“Doesn’t Hop tell you you’re beautiful?”
“No,” El says.
Hopper winces. You just smile and wrap an arm around her shoulders. She’s small enough for you to squeeze. “He doesn’t tell me much either, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t think it,” you whisper. “How could he not, huh? You’re beautiful.”
“You’re both real pretty,” he says with a sigh, spitting it out now to get it over with. “Notice how nobody tells me I’m pretty and I don’t complain?”
“You’re handsome,” you say, grabbing the top of his shoulder, and rubbing it kindly. You lift your chin for a kiss and he gives it without thinking.
“Oh, ew,” El says, ducking away from you both in disgust.
“It was a peck!” Hopper says.
“Gross.”
“Go make yourself some ice cream, kid.”
She hums happily and jumps up off of the couch. You laugh as he pulls you into the space she’s left behind, sighing as he hugs you tightly to his chest. “I think she likes me,” you say.
Hopper snorts. “You think?”
