So uh. Hi everyone, it's been a while. Long story short, around 6 years ago I developed a chronic pain issue and then a whole lot of Life Stuff happened, so I haven't had the time or energy for anything other than surviving until pretty recently. I'm still in pain 24/7 but it's more manageable because I'm used to it now, and in general my life is much more stable than it ever has been.

I'm planning on restarting a personal therianthropy blog, but it won't be this one because this is technically a sideblog and I want an actual separate account so I can have an otherkin-only tumblr feed to look at. I'll be turning this one into an archive but using the same url for the new one, and I'll link to it here when I make it :)

I'm 5 years out of date on community discourse so I have a lot of catching up to do; hopefully I'll have time for that soon!

A little story about my mom: she was not a Star Trek TOS fan although she was a young woman when it aired. She was much too busy with an infant and a 3-year old to watch much television when the show was originally on. So my mom never had a frame of reference for Star Trek or any of its characters and never expressed any interest.

Two years ago, my dad fell and broke his femur and spent a month recovering in a nursing home. I moved in with my mom temporarily because she needed a caretaker around the clock. My mom and I always had a difficult relationship and a month in my childhood home, sleeping on the floor of my old bedroom, was grueling for me, emotionally and physically. I was missing a big chunk of my son's senior year of high school, missing time with my husband and also trying to find long-term placement for two very stubborn and independent parents. Stressed doesn't even begin to cover my frame of mind.

I was leaning heavily on Star Trek during that time for some escapism and comfort and little bits of joy where I could grab them. After we'd finish her care around 1 am, I'd watch Enterprise or DS9 or a favorite old TOS episode. I was tired all the time, and heartsick, but I had good friends who kept me going. One of them sent me the Swear Trek gif of Spock saying, "I gotta get my shit together." I watched it any time I needed a laugh.

One day when I was preparing our lunch, my mom rollated herself into the kitchen and noticed my phone on the counter where the gif was repeating on a loop. "Who is that?" she asked me with great interest. So I explained Star Trek briefly and told her it was Spock, the first officer. Then she wanted to know what was happening to him. I summarized The Naked Time as best I could and thought nothing more of it until the next day when she asked to see the Star Trek person again. And after that, she asked to watch the gif every day, sometimes two or three times a day. She just wanted to see Spock start to crumble and then pull himself together with the caption, "I gotta get my shit together." But she didn't laugh, she would nod her head decisively every time.

The last week we were together, we were doing our best but our nerves and tempers were starting to fray. She was preparing to move into the same nursing home as my dad and I was trying to coordinate work schedules and school schedules and handle two households and arrange everything with the facility.

I heard her in the kitchen, shuffling around and trying to pack some of her things. She dropped a cup, it hit the floor and then after a pause she said quietly, not meaning for anyone to hear it, "I gotta get my shit together! Hee hee hee!" And then again, almost a whisper, "I gotta get my shit together." She was very brave about everything that happened in the next two years, despite being so sick, and would often repeat the sentiment like a mantra. I'd like to think Star Trek and Spock brought her a little joy and strength during her last few years.

My mom has been gone for nearly two months now. Her death is a moment that replays itself in my mind but in the end it was peaceful and she is free from all the many physical troubles she had her whole life. So this gif is for you, mom. Rest easy.

He hurried to deny it, but realised that denial was futile. “I’m, not—it’s not what you think.

“Let me explain.” Zhuang Fanxin was so frightened, he grew incoherent, so earnest he was on the verge of tears. “I’m better now, I’ve recovered. I just, I just have them in case…

“I just take one when I’m scared I won’t be well, I’m not sick anymore… I’m really not sick anymore…”

Suddenly, he was seized in a tight hug.

In his ear were Gu Zhuoyan’s low, choked sobs.

hi all! i took a mini tumblr hiatus the last several weeks but don’t worry i used my time productively: i watched the slutty plotless bl show that’s been splashed across my dash in increasingly explicit gifs for the last couple months. you know - the one kinnporsche fandom adopted and incorporated into the kp expanded universe starring the sons of vegaspete and kinnporsche (?why??? who cares it’s great).

it was 10/10 perfect popcorn show. endearing characters, so much sex it made even ME blush, which lemme tell you is hard to do, & very little to dig into and examine in the way of themes and motifs, which let’s face it can be so tiring. just wall to wall fun (except for the INSANE TRAUMA of episode 13. like, good lordy. that was a lot.) i loved it.
