Thonis-Heracleion: The Lost City of Egypt

During the centuries after Akhenaten's reign, Egypt saw its power gradually wane as it suffered invasions from the Assyrians, Persians, and Macedonians. Eventually, the ruling dynasty was Macedonian, which included Cleopatra VII. Despite this, Egypt remained a center of commerce and culture, as recently proven by the discovery of the lost city of Thonis-Herakleion, a busy port located at the mouth of the Nile. The city sank in the 8th century AD. due to a combination of earthquakes, tidal waves and instability of the flooded ground. The team of archaeologists led by Franck Goddio found many underwater finds, including ships, anchors, statues of gods and rulers, and coins. Experts believe that the city sank under its own weight and engulfment.

The mosque looks like it's a part of Zowila gate, in AL Ghouri area, near Bab Alkhalek. The mosque was built in the place of prison "El shamael" and some nearby buildings. Al Aziz Bellah Alfatemy ordered to build it in 990 ad, then his son AL Hakim completed it. So the mosque named after that famous king who prevent eating malukia, making high heels for 👭, and turned night to day by lighting Cairo's streets.
