Egyptian Gods as Humans
Aka these are some of the Egyptian Gods in my universe cursed into human form.
Left to Right: Horus, Anubis, Thoth and Khonsu
Some lore under the break
General Lore
In my universe, most of the pantheons of the Ancient world were composed of angels that had fallen in love with humans, humans and their nephilim offspring.
The angels involved romantically with the humans were subsequently punished, falling from the Lord's Grace. The humans they loved were cursed with immortality by divine punishment by Lord with some becoming half man, and half beast. Their offspring also were punished with the weakness of vulnerability around exorcism and holy magic with some becoming half man, and half beast as well.
Despite this, the powers that marked the "Gods" with their "Godhood" were either inherited by their parents (the nephilim), their former gifts from God (angels) or gifted by the angelic half of the couple prior to their curse (the humans). They retained their powers after falling from grace/being cursed albeit with limitations and now being put under the watchful eye of higher powers.
With this being established, the Ancient Egyptian pantheon was no different. In my universe however, they were like a normal family and not "intimately" related to each other. Many of the older members of the pantheon were cursed humans and their fallen angels lovers while their offspring made a majority of the younger members. Some of the nephilim married off to humans and so on and so forth.
During the reign of the Egyptian Pantheon, they had many battles, history of infighting and many myths made about them as well as many conflicts with the Lord and his Angels during key events recorded in the Old Testament and New Testament of the bible and other sources. Needless to say, tensions were high.
With this in mind, lets follow the tides of history up to the Roman Invasion of Egypt.
The Romans brought both Angelic forces watching over the growing Christianity part of the Roman population and the Greek Pantheon who watched over a small portion of the remaining people under new names from their Greek counterparts. Both were forces to be reckoned with.
Among the Egyptian Pantheon however, even more trouble was brewing. Some with the chaos of the three way war between the Egyptian Gods, The Lord's Angelic forces, and the Greek Gods were disgruntled with the way of life they had trying to take care of the humans they watched over.
Among these gods was Set who thought the Roman Invasion would be a perfect time to start a coup to overthrow the current order among the Egyptian Pantheon and the "old way" and make a new order to harness the fear and chaos of the Ancient Egyptian people into a tyrannical rule.
Of course, some of the Gods and Goddess as expected were against this usurpation of the Pantheon throne so Set devised a plan to minimize any threats against his rise to power.
You see, all the members of the pantheon had a means of a "human" form. A disguise to walk among their people without scaring them or to walk discreetly to observe their followers. With this in mind, Set had the perfect plan to set in motion.
Each of the Gods that he felt would oppose him or had already expressed their distrust and retaliations against him were rounded up. One by one with help by the others who were in the coup to regain some semblance of power, Set placed unique pieces of solid gold jewelry on each of the gods he had captured.
With a rather complicated ritual and a tome book for each god and goddess, Set sealed their "God" forms behind their human disguises with the jewelry as the means to do so and took the majority of each of their powers and sealed said powers into the books. Set then put each of them into a deep sleep after sealing them into a sarcophagus to be "taken care of".
Many Egyptian Gods and Goddesses were cursed in this way, including these four shown above.
Character Fun Facts/Lore
Horus
Nephilim - Offspring of the former human Osiris and the angel Isis
Cousin to Anubis but was raised alongside Anubis initially as brothers by Osiris and Isis. Set's nephew.
In his human form, he looks around 45 in age give or take.
He's missing his left eye thanks to Set ripping it out prior to banishing him into human form.
His powers were manipulating lunar and solar energies along with heightened senses (which included senses related to psychic abilities like thought). This was greatly reduced by the curse as well as his ability to manipulate lunar energy was lost thanks to his left eye being torn out.
In the modern age, he currently works as a lawyer given he was known for protection and healing. It's by an unorthodox means but he's pretty good at it.
His cursed piece of gold jewelry is a large necklace similar to the ones worn by pharaohs. He wears high collar shirts to hide it from sight.
Anubis
Nephilim - Offspring of former human Set and the angel of death Nepthys
Cousin to Horus but was raised by Osiris alongside Horus as brothers. Osiris's nephew.
In his human form, he looks around 37 years old.
In the modern age, he currently works as a Mortician.
His powers revolve around the abilities of Necromancy as he works with the dead and spirits of the restless undead. He also has a passive ability to see human souls and the invisible spirits of the undead. Lastly he has the ability to summon Khopesh to use as a means of cutting out a soul and reaping a soul as well as a means of self defense. Unfortunately for him he's unable to use his Necromancy to its fullest potential thanks to the curse put upon him and he's among the few with severe damage to his flesh thanks to the result of the curse repressing his abilities.
His pieces of cursed gold jewelry are a pair of bracers that run from his wrists up to his elbows and cover his forearms completely. Thanks to the bracers turning red hot every time they detect his magic, he's left with extreme scarring and damage to his skin with the gold bracers merging with his skin from cooling down after the abilities are suppressed and he stops using his Necromancy thanks to the agonizing pain.
He's one of the few gods trying to do his duties as a means of burial and preservation of the dead as well as a guide for the dead to lead them to the afterlife.
Thoth
Nephilim - parents are unknown
He's the younger brother of Khonsu
In human form, he looks to be in his early 40s with the beginnings of fine wrinkles thanks to stress.
In the modern age he currently works as a Language Arts professor of both spoken and written languages at a college.
He's known for being a God of Knowledge so for his powers , I determined that he had a really good nearly photographic memory prior to being cursed. Drawback to his curse is that he has a hard time retaining knowledge and has a cloudy memory at worse. He's very forgetful and severity of forgetfulness is dependent on him trying to use his photographic memory to retain information. It's mostly short term and fogginess however the worse cases are blank spaces and long term memory loss. He tries to use his ability for near perfect recall for important things however he risks losing memories of lesser importance like remembering faces, names etc.
His pair of cursed gold jewelry is much like Anubis's in the same vein with Thoth sporting a pair of gold bracers. However they're not as large as Anubis's and are more like form fitting bracelets around his wrists.
Khonsu
Nephilim - parents are unknown
He's the older brother of Thoth. Khonsu is the eldest brother by a decade or so. Khonsu himself is younger than Set and Osiris.
His age as a human is him appearing to be in his late 50s with a rather gaunt appearance.
Formerly Anubis's and Horus's mentor. In the modern age he currently works as an Astronomer. Anubis (begrudgingly) still refers to Khonsu as "Master Khonsu" out of habit and respect despite their differences.
For Khonsu's powers, he's mostly known for wards and protection of travelers. So he's going to have magic specialized in wards and protection spells. The only drawback is that the strength of his spells is determined by the phase of the moon. Most powerful at full, weakest at new etc. It also can be very hard to cast these spells given they need utmost concentration on Khonsu's part and the curse can eat away at that concentration by inflicting physical pain to his fingers.
For Khonsu's cursed jewelry, he has gold rings on his hands so he has to cast his magic at utmost discretion on his part.
So yeah enjoy my little spiel about my interpretations of some of the Ancient Egyptian pantheon!
