Charlotte Corday, was a figure of the French Revolution. In 1793, she was executed by guillotine for the assassination of Jacobin leader Jean-Paul Marat, who was in part responsible for the more radical course the Revolution had taken through his role as a politician and journalist. Marat had played a substantial role in the political purge of the Girondins, with whom Corday sympathized. His murder was depicted in the painting The Death of Marat by Jacques-Louis David, which shows Marat's dead body after Corday had stabbed him in his medicinal bath.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte_Corday

Around six years ago, I had worked on a comic book pitch (paid one) based on the history of trading and colonisation. It was only a few pages, and it took me a lot of time to gather the correct references and educate myself before working on the drawings. Unfortunately, the project never moved beyond the pitch. Hoping it would at some point.

20th January 1651, birth of English Physician and father of comparative anatomy Edward Tyson. As well as his work in the first study of the comparison of the anatomy of different species; he was appointed physician and governor in 1684, to the Bethlem Hospital in Moorfields, London. The first insane asylum in England, the hospital was renowned for its inhumane treatment of its patients, and terrible living conditions; gaining the hospital its nickname “bedlam”, the term still in use today for confusion and disorder. During his governorship, Tyson attempted to shift the hospital’s reputation from a public spectacle to a place of benevolence. In 1698 Tyson published his study on the dissection of a chimpanzee, in ‘ the Anatomy of a Pygmie Compared with that of a Monkey, an Ape, and a Man’, he declared that the chimpanzee is closer to man than that of a monkey. I started this piece and never finished. But I still like parts of it. I just played around with making marks and intuitively playing with shading and color. Also when I started this, I had just got @vvberger ‘s brush pack for procreate and spent hours playing with the different brushes and combination of marks and blending modes. I think my point to this is that I need to play more and not worry about so much about the outcome. ✌️✨ . . . . . . . #art #illustration #drawing #childrensbooks #chikdrensillustration #kidlitart #procreate #ipadpro #hamilton #anotherimmigrantcominupfromthebottom #ship #history #historyillustration #middlegradebooks #middlegradeillustration #digitalart (at The Warren) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqX9R6VnkpQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=oyutgrmpqq11

#marchmeetthemaker Day 3 : How you started. Technically my first published piece was a weather drawing I did in primary school that got featured on Midlands Today (they sent me a t-shirt) but it was Beowulf that made me feel like a real illustrator. I'd always wanted to work with @foliosociety and I met the wonderful art director, Sheri, at a @theaoi portfolio surgery. She rang me up a couple of weeks later and asked me if I'd be up for it - illustrate Anglo Saxons for The Folio Society? Yes please!! The second pic here is the first illu we did, which was sent to Seamus Heaney for his approval before we want ahead with the rest. Fortunately he liked it! . #marchmeetthemakerday3 #day3 #beautifulbooks #foliosociety #historyillustration #anglosaxonillustration #linocut #linoprint #reliefprint #reliefprinting #blockprinting #Beowulf #SeamusHeaney #ukprintmakers #ukillustrators #illustration #bookillustration #bookcovers #booklovers #aoi #aoimember

The Sporting Magazine was established in 1793. The magazine was published in London, but was able to offer extensive coverage of events nationally because the editor John Wheble, had established a wide-ranging network of informants, writers and contributors throughout the shires.

Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin in 1793. This invention caused massive growth in the production of cotton in the United States, concentrated mostly in the South. As a result, the region became more and more dependent on slavery. The cotton gin is also considered as one of the indirect causes of the American Civil War.

A wee taster of something I've been working on recently - another rough from the Canso de la Crozada. I don't normally make my roughs this detailed, because a lot of decisions are made, and things changed, during the cutting of the final image, but this client wanted just rough samples to show prospective publishers, so these are taking a little longer than my usual scribbles! . #illustration #cansodelacrozada #albigensiancrusade #catharcrusade #frenchhistory #popeinnocentiii #fourthlaterancouncil #lateranpalace #ukillustrators #aoi #aoimember #ukprintmakers #linocut #linoprint #blockprinting #printmaking #reliefprinting #historyillustration
