The winners of the departed Blondie hit parade, it turns out, were almost the only "modern" music that John Lennon listened to
This was told by his son Sean - the only new wave record in his music collection, dominated by artists from the 50s, like Presley and the Everly Brothers, was the track "The Tide Is High" by Blondie. Sean claims that his father listened to it often, and that is why this composition reminds him of his parent who left so early.
I remember that the only modern song he listened to was "The Tide Is High" by Blondie, which he kept playing. When I hear this song, I see my father, unshaven, with his hair in a ponytail, dancing back and forth in faded denim shorts, and I'm at his feet, trying my best to coordinate my tiny limbs.
This was also confirmed by a postcard sent to Ringo Starr, where Lennon, attaching this track, wrote: "this is the material that you should do. Great and simple." By the way, this gesture demonstrated Lennon's affection for his friend and emphasized his constant concern about Starr's career after the breakup of The Beatles.
It's time to listen to the winners' track

Here begins: Ray's Campaign to Make People Know Earth Wind And Fire Songs Other Than September
As fun as this internet holiday is, I cannot allow this one song to be their legacy when they literally have better ones
especially from their earliest albums. This was their first single.

A very rare but very incredible piece of funk! That intro with the drums and the killer bass!
Fun fact: this singer was likely gay and definitely a drag performer/female impersonator. This is the last song he recorded before retiring from show biz! What a track to go out on!
Here is him ten years before the above came out, on video
