@davincicode7 Anita Delgado (1890-1962) was a Spanish flamenco dancer from Andalusia who achieved fame for having married the Indian Maharaja of Kapurthala. ⚜️ She was born in Malaga to a modest family of restaurateurs who emigrated to Madrid. She captured the attention of Maharaja Jagajit Singh Who met her during the marriage ceremony of king Alfonso XIII of Spain. The Maharaja watched her performances in a cafe-concert. He seduced her and stayed with her throughout the wedding but left after the bombing of the royal couple. Later, however, her friends convinced her to further meet him in Paris. He had her educated (including french) in order that he could explain his love for her. She spent time in Paris being completely groomed and educated before setting off from Marseille to Kapurthala. They married on 28 January 1908 and she changed her name to Maharani Prem Kaur Sahiba. ⚜️ Anita Delgado was a strong philanthropic and also a jewelry lover. This unique and beautiful forehead jewel was believed to be her most favourite. She has been photographed in it in many photos. It was originally a jeweled ornament for a royal elephant that was one of the maharaja’s birthday gift to Delgado. It is said that as he handed her the moon crescent shaped stone he said: “Now you can have the moon, my capricious little one.” ⚜️ They separated after the Maharaja married his 7th wife and as a result, Delgado stayed in Paris living secretly with her secretary in order that her allowance continued. Tragically, a ship crarrying all her precious jewels to France got lost. The jewels are said to be worth millions. She died on 7 July 1962 in Madrid. This particular pair of silver earrings was made specially to my request, and features the enigmatic Pictish beast carved into a Craw Stane at Rhynie (see second picture, taken from @histenvscot). . Nobody is quite sure what the Pictish beast symbol stands for. It has been linked to lots of things from dragons to dolphins, but it is unknown whether it has social, mythical, or perhaps even political significance. . Another of my favourite kind of archaeological artefacts - the mystery object! This one is even more intriguing because it's a repeated but varying design seen in multiple locations around Scotland, rather than a physical object in itself. . The headpiece, which @officialfaberge made in 1904, was commissioned by Frederick Francis IV, the grand duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, as a wedding gift for his bride. The grand duke chose Fabergé on the encouragement of his mother, Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna of Russia, an avid collector. It has a presale estimate of $230,000 to $340,000. The tiara features nine graduated, pear-shaped aquamarines, and old-, cushion- and rose-cut diamonds, fashioned into forget-me-not flowers tied with ribbon bows, which symbolize true and eternal love. The pierced arrows represent cupid, and are a token of endearment, attraction and affection, Christie’s noted. The tiara wasn’t ready in time due to a delay in the return of correspondence between the grand duke and Eugène Fabergé, who was designing the piece. The princess instead wore the traditional Hanoverian nuptial crown that had been in her family for more than a century. The grand duke gave her the wedding gift, for which he paid RUB 7,500, at a later date.
