a while ago, I had been joking around with a friend about the idea of a shonen hero who's like all about the power of friendship and draws strength from their friend group, but their friend group is made up of minor antagonists, and now that I've watched it, I've realized the show I was looking for was mob psycho. That's literally just what mob's friend group is like.

#mp100 #with the exception of reigen and his friends from school #but like. all his esper friends? all of them were at some point antagonists or at least fucked up in some way #teru? literally strangled mob to the point of unconsciousness in their first encounter. now admires him more than anyone. #shou? the son of a supervillain. caused problems on purpose for mob in season one. now just a fortnite kid. #ritsu? corruption arc. the consequences of giving an angsty gifted kid psychic powers (turning evil). #is now no longer being evil but is still kinda fucked up and very willing to use violence #even the finale antagonists from season one are allies in season two! #even dimple! the first person we see mob go 100% on! fucked up evil spirit! eventually becomes friends with mob and protects him! #of course now. well. things are a little fucked #i havent read the manga so no spoilers #but mob doesnt seem to believe that dimple was just using him this whole time and i agree #i think dimple is just refusing to acknowledge that he has come to care for the kid #anyway that's besides the point #the point is that shonen protag with a friend group of villains is really funny and im so glad it exists through mp100

i'd like to draw attention to This bit:

i didnt notice it when i first read it, but... that sleeve bit there? he's holding his arm. we don't get to see what he's actually thinking, but he's holding the bicep of his left arm - the arm he lost. considering he's standing in wait of Knives for their final battle, he's clearly remembering the time he lost it. to Knives.

he proceeds to think through the mistakes he's made and the people he's met... but something noteworthy that I find really interesting is that anime-only characters are present in the lineup.

the boomerang guy (who is in the manga Technically, though we didnt see vash meet him) & the blonde gunman from episode 1. and the dancing girl & her guy friend from episode 11.

all "filler", supposedly, but Vash knows them. the implication of this being that Vash has had some amount of those adventures even in the manga (though the different Marlons makes that part a little more muddied - maybe he knew Frank Marlon in a similar way to the anime, though the girls couldn't have been there in this version if he's the current Marlon's grandfather).

I keep seeing nonstop posts about how gojo could be coming back but there’s genuinely no way he’s surviving this, narratively or logically in-story. His head may be intact but he was already over exerting himself AND GOT CUT IN HALF. other than toji, it really isn’t geges style to go back on a death, especially for one who’s this overpowered. And all the “hints” at him being alive or having a second awakening, etc, just seem like acceptance of him moving on to the afterlife or reincarnation of six eyes. And there wasn’t actually set up for him and Kenjaku to fight (and with this chapter securely showing dead geto with the others), only for yuuta and maybe yuuji and choso. a lot of the narrative themes can be used with the newer generation of students, such as yuuji saving megumi or maki killing her clan, rather than gojo. Like I’m always open to be proven wrong and I’m not satisfied with the build up to the fight, but this feels very final.
