A collection of ten short stories with a golfing theme, by P. G. Wodehouse, 'The Clicking of Cuthbert', was first published on February 3, 1922, by Herbert Jenkins Ltd, London; and later published in the United States by George H. Doran, under the title, 'Golf Without Tears'.

The first story in the collection introduces 'the Oldest Member', a repeat character who narrates the majority of Wodehouse's golf stories from the terrace of a golf club whose location is unclear and never given a proper name.

Born in Guildford, Surrey, on October 15, 1881, Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse KBE (P.G. Wodehouse), was an English author said to be one of the most widely read humorists of the 20th century.

An alumnus of Dulwich College – a foundation to which he remained devoted all his life - Wodehouse was initially employed by a bank, but disliked the work and turned to writing in his spare time.

His early novels were mostly school stories. But he later switched to comic fiction, creating several regular characters who became familiar to the public over the years; including the jolly gentleman of leisure, ’Bertie Wooster’, and his sagacious valet, ’Jeeves’; the immaculate and loquacious ’Psmith’; ’Lord Emsworth’ and the Blandings Castle Set; the ’Oldest Member’, with stories about golf; and ’Mr Mulliner’, with tall tales on subjects ranging from bibulous bishops to megalomaniac movie moguls.

Although most of Wodehouse’s fiction is set in England, he spent much of his life in the US, and used New York and Hollywood as settings for some of his novels and short stories.

In 1934, he moved to France for tax reasons. A move that led to him being taken prisoner at Le Touquet in 1940 by the invading Nazis.

After his release, Wodehouse made six broadcasts from Nazi-German radio in Berlin to the US, which had not yet entered the war. The talks were comic and apolitical, but his broadcasting over enemy radio prompted anger and strident controversy in Britain, leading to a threat of prosecution.

Sir Pelham never returned to England. He died at the age of 93, on February 14, 1975. He rests at Remsenburg Cemetery, Remsenburg, Suffolk County, New York, USA.

I would never consider myself a "fan" of any serial killer, but I lowkey stan Ed Kemper, ok?

He was imprisoned in a cell next to Herbert Mullin (another serial killer) at one point and whenever he did something annoying, Kemper threw water at him, and when he did something Kemper approved of, he gave him peanuts. My guy just training the demented killer like a pet.

Kemper also requested death penalty for himself, with "death by torture" as his preferred method. What an absolute legend. (Also I agree he should never be let out, jfc this guy is a monster. D: )

Hearing voices is a mental illness, unless it’s god talking to you. Lately I’ve been wondering if people like David Berkowitz or Herbert Mullin would be viewed differently by Christians if they had framed their actions differently. If Berkowitz had said god told him to kill rather than his neighbor’s dog, would there be Christians that supported him? If Herbert Mullin had said god - not “Mother Nature” - hadtasked him with saving California from earthquakes, would he be a saint? The amount of Christians who believe that god speaks directly to the is baffling… if I were a demon trying to corrupt someone’s soul, I think pretending to be god would be the best way to go about it.
