I don’t believe that religious people are generally happier And if they do think so they are lying to themselves. The demographic who believes that they will go to Hell and be raped and tortured for all eternity if they have sex before marriage is not, and will never be, happier than atheists. Maybe because of the toxic positivity and the fact that they are taught to be stupid they think they are “happier”, but they are not. Life begins at conception? Several years ago I was raped. Next day took plan b pill. I was raised believing in God. Now I don't know. But I'm suffering a lot of extra trauma reading that I possibly aborted a baby because I may have "prevented implantation of an already fertilized egg". Christians say life begins at conception ie fertilization. If God and heaven exist, apparently if I aborted this rape baby, it is waiting to greet me in heaven. This idea is more traumatic than the rape itself. I don't want anything to do with any rape baby in the afterlife. If anyone can convince me I did not kill a fertilized egg, please, that may help me a bit psychologically. Thank you. I also have more trauma in that I was a virgin, so the whole religious purity culture I grew up with has really fucked with my head - as I was brainwashed into believing that once my virginity is gone (except in marriage) then I'm a dirty piece of chewed up gum no one else will ever want. So yeah, lots of trauma to do with virginity, rape and possible murder of a baby via plan b pill. Actually surprised I haven't ended my life ... Edit: sorry I haven't replied to all comments yet, but just want to say thank you so much to everyone responding! I have experienced more compassion here on this atheist page than from all the Christians who have talked to me regarding my rape trauma and then taking plan b. Theists who say "r/atheism made me even more religious than before!" So I've seen this comment spring up a few times online, from theists/religious people claiming that they went to this subreddit to try and open their minds, only to find the so-called hostility of the sub so overwhelming that it only made them more religious and more convinced that atheists were bad/unreasonable people. What do y'all think about this? Do you think there's some truth to this sub sometimes being a little overly angry or do you just think it's theists being overly sensitive? I’ve seen this asked before, but has anyone “created” their own religion? The tax implications alone make it a very attractive proposition. Write off my house as a “church”, my car as my pipe-mobile. Food and drink as sacraments. Seems like a win win. My services are held whenever my deity chooses to reveal herself (yup she’s a girl). Expensive dinner dates are also part of my gospel as is the consumption of beer wine and cheese, steak. You get the picture. theists that say "we don't care what you are as long as you don't talk about it" The question is to some, why are they are so sensitive that they'd call for the death of atheists and apostates. See I understand the mentality of not being proselytized to and I agree people should keep a lot of stuff to themselves. But even if someone doesn't as long as they respect not harassing people they are free to stand with signs about the rapture or how Allah is great for example..it makes good entertainment. However, there's not justification to apostasy laws. And yet some Muslims will say "we don't care, we only care when you bring it up". Christians will say the same. They aren't mean until you talk about it. As if that makes it any better. The moment some atheists bring up being atheist they get mad. Mom wants free camp My wife wants to send our 5 year old son to a Bible camp this summer because it is “free”. She is not very religious and I am an atheist. We have agreed to raise the boys neutral and let them decide for themselves later. She came across a free camp at a local mega church that she feels would be great for our son. “It has outside play, snacks and boys his age”, she says that outweighs the cost of the Bible lesson.
