i lied btw. my largest character flaw is that i think shinji matou is one of my favorite fsn characters and i hold his writing in relatively high regard among the already stacked cast of the vn

#there's a lot to say about how he is the most easily manipulated character in the game #he's stupid and prideful with a paperthin ego and everybody around him knows it even his victims #thats why sakura doesn't hate him even when she kills him. she's no dummy she knows that he was shaped into the monster he is #by worm grandpa on purpose. #additionally it's worth noting that we know from kariya that the matous have black hair naturally #and we know from sakura that it's the worms that make the hair purple #so we know shinji got his turn in the worm pit before he was cast aside #he is pushed by the adults in his life to commit every atrocity he ever commits and to do it with a smile on his face #and yet despite what degree of victimhood he holds he deserves every death he gets in f/sn #because his inability to see the bigger picture of zouken or gil's or kirei's games does not excuse anything he does #he's such a walking trainwreck and his voice acting (esp. in japanese with hiroshi kamiya) really really elevates it #but yeah tl;dr i kinda want to dissect shinji like a frog in biology class. he's such a wreck and he's both pitiable and unforgiveable #heaven's feel spoilers

(which like honestly a lot of the rhetoric is dismissive of the fact that persistent goodness in the face of an existence of disparagement takes great strength and that at the end of the day aziraphale has always been able to stand up in his own way)

#listen im only in episode two and i know there's some drama going down but im focusing on this lol #i love that not only do they show the angel using a wheelchair and being ambulatory #but they also visibly show them miracling innaccessibility issues so that they Can still use the chair #instead of just getting rid of the disability #part of my is conflicted bc im like... there's disabilities in heaven? and that makes Me sad bc my disability is hell and painful as fuck #But getting rid of disability in fantasy is eugenist crap and showing that god made a disabled angel is a net good thing #while it personally makes me sad to think if there was a heaven i could still be in pain all the time #not all disabilites are bad and need to be cured we're a wide spectrum and we've been fighting for disabled rep esp in fantasy for ages #it's objectively good my personal feelings about my own disability aside #part of me thinks it's cliche to say 'you were made perfect' bc they're an angel But it's not we literally havent had this type of rep lol #anyways it made me happy to see #and im so glad it's a power chair user that's ambulatory it's important for abled ppl to see that #anyways y'all keep your drama and spoilers off my post im not far in and im only talking about this shoo #oh also!! love the fantasy hover chair they use in heaven specifically too i wish we had that it kicks ass #p

As someone who is far too into Fate, you actually do lose some other things with the Realta Nua translation. Specifically:

-In Fate, I'm pretty sure some of the gore is less detailed, but more impactfully,

-In Heaven's Feel, there's a lot of censoring lines related to Sakura's abuse in the Matou household (specifically, I remember in the rain scene, before Shirou hugs her). Certain parts that are blunt in the base game gain an air of ambiguity. And I do think that loss is relevant as part of what Heaven's Feel is doing is presenting the characters with a situation that they can't look away from. Making it less obvious feels like a loss to me, though again, pretty minor

also very importantly, you lose out on "shinji has done this before" and that one scene is changed to be more of him doing something for the first time in a moment of weakness, significantly toning down just how bad things have been

another reason i think that xie lian felt an instant connection on the ox cart is because he and hua cheng both grew up in xianle.

there are maybe 4 people still alive that grew up in that culture. based on my own experience, you can pick up on things like accent, cadence, references, and humor that suggest a person is from the same place as you without consciously noticing it. that sense of comfort and similarity probably played into their instant chemistry.
