me: I'm tired of the characters in books and series and films always ending up with their teenage love. it's lazy and unrealistic. the authors just have to leave the story open at the end, without telling us about the love life of the characters later, it's not that complicated. it's really annoying.

Heartstopper is darker than we give it credit for

I think it´s mostly the Netflix series fault (although the series is amazing) since they cut the cursing and all. Buy even in the show the story has very dark undertones that the fandom´s been avoiding.

We´ve created this narrative that Heartstopper´s a pure love story, so sweet and naive and comforting. And it is, it truly is. But it´s also about bullying, depression, self-harm, homophobia, eds, abusive relationships and so much more. It´s not just the lovey-dovey romance that we pretend it is.

Hearstopper is dark, even with its pastel colors.
