Guys, you have no idea how happy I am that this is complete! You know I'm gonna be supper obnoxious now that I can turn into a demonic ghost with mommy issues. 🤪
Anyway, some notes and thoughts on this cosplay that no one asked for and no one wants~!
First and foremost, this cosplay is sort of a clonesona. I feel like (if given the chance), Beetlejuice would play around with how his clones look. Obviously on stage it’s impossible to find actors who look identical to the lead, but I like that the fandom has embraced BJ being unable/unwilling to create clones that are a 100% physical match. If that’s the case, I’m sure he throws in a more fem-presenting clone once in a while.
This doubles as a feminine-presenting form for Beetlejuice himself, too (Toonjuice has no issue changing his gender presentation at will in a bunch of scenarios, and I like to think that Musicaljuice would be the same/similar). I guess a version of Beetlejuice that’s female would be fun, but I prefer the idea of BJ shapeshifting to look and present the way he wants to (or to have fun with unsuspecting victims).
Even from the early development of this cosplay all the way back in October, choosing between a dress and a suit was like pulling teeth. I love the suit an unhealthy amount, but I wanted something distinct from other interpretations. That, and I was hesitant to lean into the hyper-sexualized looks I’ve seen from officially licensed offshoots of the character. Beetlejuice, while a self-proclaimed sexual being, doesn’t read as the kind of entity to go from generally masc-presenting all the way to hyper-sexual fem-presenting. Also, where the hell is the grime on all these fem designs???? Why does she look clean? Cowards!
I think BJ would settle on a fem-presenting form in a suit, but I also think he’s just as comfortable in a dress regardless of the pronouns/physical characteristics he’s using at any given moment. He likes his dresses and we love him for it.
Anyway-
I wanted a dress that felt “old” but not dated,so I settled on a shirt dress. They came about in the 1920’s, but didn’t become super popular until the 50’s. The cut of Beetlejuice’s suit is somewhere between modern and a style that would have been popular in the 50’s, too.
I also think shirt dresses are pretty “neutral” in that they aren’t form-fitting and they read more like a shirt from the waist up. I didn’t want anything dainty, but I wanted some movement to the fabric, and a dress does that a bit better than a suit imo. It’s why I love Beetlejuice’s first 15 minutes on stage in the trench coat. I know it’s a callback to when we first see him in the movie, but it adds a ton of secondary movement and looks cartoony when coupled with very exaggerated movements typical of a stage show. It’s why I love watching Collette especially bounce around on stage because istg he knows this (or that him growing up with the cartoon make him really lean into over the top body language and the trench coat just adds to it).
Like, look at that! Are you seeing what I’m saying? If I could animate, that would be a dream shot!
Oops, can’t go 15 minutes without thinking of the silly.
All that is to say that movement and form in an outfit, especially one for a character as chaotic as Beetlejuice, was super important to me. It’s also why I settled on long, curly hair, kept the tie, and added a bow. All of that breaks up patterns, adds movement, and is something I can put moss on.
Anyway, this cosplay has a lot of little nods to the musical, cartoon, and film (but is mostly based off of the musical).
Cartoon: bugs!! Toonjuice is sometimes seen with small beetles chilling on his suit (which he inevitably snacks on). I love the idea of Beej being covered in bugs, so I felt compelled to include them on the dress and hat. It's a subtle reference, but one that I really wanted. They’re made out of scrap polymer clay and painted. Here are a few:
Film: The guide hat! It's iconic. I know that the hat made it into very early versions of the musical and promotional materials, but how it got thrown by the wayside is beyond me.
Musical: the grime and disrepair! I was heavily inspired by an early suit that is absolutely covered in moss!
I also added a lot of grime to the shoulders and hem as a callback to later versions of the suit and especially the tour version of it. I also added some x stitches since I really like the way they look on the current tour suit!
Oh, and the banjolele! Can't forget my favorite prop!
Miscellaneous: I love giving supernatural characters pointy ears and fangs, so you best believe I’m going to do the same for BJ. Slightly related, but I love the tour makeup so much. The makeup artists really lean into Beetlejuice being corpsey and I’m here for it (I essentially combine the tour and film makeup to get the look I’m after).
Oh! And snap bracelets! I remember hardcore stimming with these as a kid to the point of destroying them (then it was goodbye snap bracelets), and you cannot tell me Beetlejuice, neurodivergent-coded demon ghost, wouldn’t be the same way. Full disclosure, I had to wrap them around metal bands because these snaps are rubber and the texture is a nightmare for me, but I was determined to include them. They’re also a substitute for Beetlejuice’s watches in the film.

2024 Megaman Valentine's Day/White Day Contest Results!
Hopefully this post won't feel too rushed; it certainly is rare for me to get contest results posted before 2 days have passed. Once again, I thank everyone who drew something for this year's event, as well as those who helped spread the word. Even with a smaller turnout, you guys still made it really hard on me to choose winners. All your art is deserving of praise! I wish I could afford to give you all some prize money!

CATEGORY 1 (Talent): Black and White Day
For this category, participants were tasked with creating an image celebrating White Day, with the requirement that their art mimic the "rubber hose" art style from around the 1920's. All entries needed to use a black and white or monochrome palette.

A cute scene with Rock presenting Alia with a ring that was made even better by adding an alternate original Gameboy palette pixel version of the same art. That added creativity made an adorable pic stand out even more, to give two different retro vibes to your art.

As an overall scene, your piece felt the most like it was screencapped straight out of a 20's cartoon, so I give you your props on getting your style to match so well! You can feel the movement with the curve in the Big Snakey's necks as Snake Man slides on down to Toad with his candy bouquet gift.

Sure, because of all the Axess storyboard posts I've been doing lately, this trio is probably in my mind more lately. But animating your piece to give it that added life, as the guys bonk each other with their gifts for Mariko, helped boost your entry into the top 3! LOL at the fish crying when Masa gets bonked. And again, style-wise, great job pulling off the rubber hose look.

For this category, entries needed to contain a character wearing an out-of-place holiday-themed skin or outfit that was not Valentine's Day-related, while in a Valentine's Day scene or setting. Being the humor category, the more it makes us laugh, the better!

🎵Zero the Snowman was a jolly, happy soul...but are YOU happy, Ciel? I love how Zero took White Day this literally to don this amusing snowman outfit. And out of all the entries for this category, you pulled off the absurdly humorous costume the best.
2.) @drewblossom [Entry] $100 Winner!
It might just be a simple party hat, but I mean, Bass isn't wrong. Subtle, but I was amused! The heart shaped speech bubble was a nice touch to help sell the dialogue's punch line as well.
3.) AbilityField [Entry] $75 Winner!
Clever way to show the rush in changing between events, as RiCO is in part Valentine's skin and part Celebration skin dress that are digitally switching. ViA has it much easier throwing on a coat. It's always easier for the guys to get ready, as they say.
4.) Miralie [Entry]
While Zero and Iris are dressed for the day, X's date does sort of have that Halloween vibe to her, as a witch. While Axl is clearly enjoying Singles Awareness Day...or doing his best Stuart Smalley impression by giving his Daily Affirmation that he's good enough, he's smart enough, and doggone it, Reploids like him.

As you can see the lord and savior of my mental state has been turned into a horror movie character BUT it May not be a bad thing
I myself am not really a huge fan of horror movies of any kind, latley the horror genre of any kind has been mostly focused on jumpscares and I just think thats a bit cheap since it is a natural instinct to be afraid of those, and the public domain horrors as much as i would love to not expect bad from em have mostly been the same thing, a human in a costume or mask, does murder and thats pretty much it, also ppl like to Rush these alot
But this? I can honestly get behind this, they lay off the movie till 2025 witch is a huge green flag for me because that means they accualy have a plan they don't cut corners at least not alot of em
Their design for oswald is really cute i love the gloves as much as i cant see my ozzie wearning em They do look amazing on him also it is intresting to see them make oswald more cheerful and happy at first then turn upset a moment later, witch btw happends only a moment AFTER he sees US he waves to US then he get's scared/feels dread? Shock? Nothing positive that's for sure! Only after he sees US he starts attacking the souls(?) Around him

I wonder what will happend and how exactly will the movie go? I know were suppoust to follow one of oswalds grand grand kids around but I'm not sure on how true is that and if it is What will oswald exactly do? I know he's suppoust to be soul sucking demon in a way
But we do see him happy and cartoony and peaceful, until he sees US, is there a possibility oswald will be friendly at first but when he realizes were here he will only then turn agressive? Or will he be mad at us/the protagonist? Maybe he will be Disconnected from reality? Prehaps being a cartoon from 1920's that always stayed a cartoon from 1920's (the games do have animated cutscenes but there not really toons, and once upon A studio was whenever we like it or not just a cameo) will that effect him or his actions maybe his mental state or view of the world?
I have alot of questions and dare I Say I'm semi excited, I don't want to bet too much on the table but I will 100% support this, it is very promising

Alert! Alert! New art! Once again more of my quaint Russian houses. Better get used to them. There’s way more to come! I’m going to try something new to link the Pinterest post. Hope it works!
YASSS! SLAYYY! I did it! Now I don’t need to be racked with guilt! So what now… Do you want to see my sketches of Mulori and Scout Gosemdouchi?
I dressed her up in 1920’s flapper fashion. It’s inspired by this one video I got recommended after looking up stuff about modern Korean art. It was about Korean modern girls back in the early 20th century. There was this pretty much world trend of young women dressing up in “scandalous clothes” and partying it up. Goes well with my head cannon for Mulori being kind of a rebel. I had this idea for a while to write short stories from the point of view of deceased characters. It would be them moments before death having their whole lives flash before their eyes.
I like Mulori because there’s potential for an internal conflict with her. Her love for singing versus her “duty” to serve the nation. If I’m going to write this I better not spoil it all. But I would have her join the military seeking new opportunities she would never get as a poor farmer. Her gender playing a big role in the story. Her death would be also more tragic than heroic. Like. Someone had to stop those boats. But why did it have to be her specifically?
Now some Scout Gosemdouchi fanart! In my head cannon he’s a super chill pretty boy all the women have a crush on. The perfect soldier. Incredibly charming and kind. Always ready to sacrifice his life for his nation. Like Tomoe Nami in Madoka Magica. The tragedy with him is that he was just too good for this world.
As I told my dad when we were once on a walk, I write a lot about complicated father son relationships. I don’t know why. I think it’s something to do with all those Tom Hanks movies and interviews. In my head cannon Scout Gosemdouchi is the son of Commander Gosemdouchi. Thus the same name. Personally I think the cartoon’s just lazy when it comes to names but that’s why you got head cannons. To do the writer’s job for them. I think they both love each other. Commander Gosemdouchi might be a tyrant but he’s not abusive to his son. He might have some big expectations for his son. Please insert your asian parents joke.
The mom’s dead by the way. Don’t know what got her yet but she died when Gosemdouchi junior was still small.
The reason why Gosemdouchi junior is stone cold on his last mission is that he had an argument with his dad. The expectations were too much for him and they both ended up saying some cruel shit to each other.
I’ve got more ideas for these characters I won’t go into more because as I said. I want to save them for later. I would want the collection to have 3 stories. Mulori, Scout Gosemdouchi and Mulmangcho’s purple shirt brother. Is there a character you think I should write about? What do you think of my head cannons?

A bit of backstory for this account. (Feel free to skip this and go straight into the intro below):
I made this blog ages ago to try and connect more with self shippers, but I ended up not doing anything with it because I became inactive in the self ship community (at least until now. I might make a separate blog for that later, but right now I’m focusing on some more important things in my life).
So I tried reforming this place into a “I’ll put whatever I want here” sorta thing, but once again became inactive. And now that Instagram (my main platform) has basically been rendered useless because of the tags not working anymore, I need to find a new “main” to talk about my writing and shit. So I’m trying for a third and hopefully final time to reform this blog, and turning it into a writing/oc blog. :b

My debut novel: "Villain vs. Villain and the Revitalization of the Transtemporal Case" is the first book in my illustrated, crime/comedy/sci-fi trilogy. It's currently on Amazon in ebook format, and on Goodreads. But I’m also in the works of getting the paperback out this month as well as the animated-ish book trailer.
It’s a story about a time travel scandal taking place in 2005. Jonathan, a black market salesman, is on a journey to clear his name and stop his brother from messing with the timeline. Along the way, he teams up with an undercover agent and go on wacky adventures together as they attempt to reach their goals and hopefully put a stop to their dimension’s demise.
⭐️ I also have a few random short stories on my website blog which can be found here, however, I’m highly considering re-working them as they are all unedited, probably full of errors, and I also wrote these anywhere from months to years ago, so I don’t think they properly represent my current writing all that well.

Distant screaming.
Too many my friend...too many. But my main WIP right now is book 2 of my Villain vs. Villain trilogy. I also have a 1920's crime/comedy/sapphic romance short story thingamajig I've got in development that I hope to publish next year. I simply don't have the time, money, or energy to publish book 2 next year as I originally planned, so hopefully this short story will fill in that publishing gap until I get my trilogy figured out.

💙 I have a shih tzu/writing partner named Dakota who will sometimes appear on my account. (He loves contributing to my drafts by jumping onto my lap and slamming his paws and ass on my keyboard). Also ignore the half destroyed chair he’s sitting on. He’s responsible for said destruction and is proud of it.
💙 I currently live in Ohio, and yes, I can confirm first hand that it’s an entrance to the backrooms. The screams from outside keep getting louder too…
💙 Horror is my comfort/self indulgent genre. I would say the same about erotica but I really can’t seem to get into most books I find in that genre for some reason. So I mostly read shitty X reader fics online involving the characters I crush on (who totally aren’t cartoon men in their middle ages).
💙 Music is one of my biggest inspirations for writing. My favorite genres are 2000’s-2010’s pop music, and electro swing. My favorite artists are: Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Pitbull, Wolfgang Lohr, Swing’it, and more.

Welp, that’s all I got for now. I’m still working on reforming this blog, as I said earlier, so there might be a mess of random posts here here as well as an unfinished theme until I figure how the actual hell to use this platform. I sorta wanna post both orginal and fan content like I was doing before, but whenever I dedicate an account to my writing, I feel odd posting anything that’s not OC related. We’ll see what happens.

Ink Magic & Paint Magic
Ink and paint magic is a reoccurring topic in Looney Wanderers.
Ink Magic (also called "dark magic") and Paint Magic (also called "light magic") are of course, magic. But what you'll also see is that there are colored toons and black and white toons as well.
The world only consists of toons, and every single one of them come from either ink magic or paint magic. Colored toons originate from paint magic, and black and white toons come from ink magic. This happened millions of years ago upon the creation of the first toons to ever exist.
Colored toons tend to look more modern in terms of fashion, and Ink toons tends to look more old-fashioned (pretty much like the 1920's) but that doesn't mean that there can't be a mix. There are still colored toons that dress old-timey and there are black and white toons that dress more modern (although that specifically isn't seen much)
The reason why paint magic toons tend to look more modern is because ink magic toons have been around longer than paint toons, but they've still existed for a very very long time.
There is also such thing as being able to learn how to control these two forms of magic, no matter what kind of toon you are. You can be an ink toon channeling ink or paint magic, or you can be a paint magic toon that channels ink or paint magic. The difficulty of controlling either of these depends on the person and what kind of biological toon you are. Take Riddi and Bendy for example.
Riddi is a paint magic toon, and a picasso painting toon, and they channel ink magic. It's a little harder for Riddi to control ink magic because they are a paint toon, but being a picasso toon (which is a form of art) makes channeling ink magic a tiiiny bit easier because the type of toon they are is connected to art.
Bendy on the other hand, he's born pretty much an expert on ink magic, but there's a chunk of it he can't control because he was created imperfectly. There are still biological errors in him that effect that.
Speaking of creation, toons can even make toons from ink and paint magic, but it's very risky and it requires a lot of patience. Different practices are involved depending on what exactly you are creating.
One thing about the world of Looney Wanderers is women (oddly specific) that create toons from magic (and generally ink magic) are called Witches, and it's usually used as an insult. However, certain toons are reclaiming this word.
Types of Toons
There are endless types of toons, just like the real life ones in shows. However, all of them are based off of the old fashioned "rubberhose" cartoon style rather than the newer disney ones you see today. Examples of these are of course, Bendy characters and Cuphead characters.
There are also rather unusual toons as well, like the Devil. The devil in Looney Wanderers is just a regular toon, but also not regular at all. Because of his character, he's able to trick people into making deals with him for their souls. We don't question why he's here or what he wants. He's a toon. A very bad one.
Certain toons can do certain things, like only the more "rubberhose" styled toons can do things like walk off a cliff and keep walking until they look down. The way the toon world works is different too, because babies in that world are in fact, delivered by storks.

DHD Trivia
In the first comic with Aditi’s deal, Alrick has shoulder armor. I left them out in the 2nd story as I was planning to have Alrick give his jacket for Vanessa to stay warm and comforted, but it never happened. Since then Alrick has been without any armor.
Cat’s name was supposed to be just Cat, but Rena called her Catherine during the typing process.
I was supposed to draw only one comic with Alrick (the Aditi’s Deal), nothing more. But a new idea came to my mind, then a new one…
I want to keep Alrick’s and Lou-Lou friendship close and warm, as I believe in unconditional friendships between men and women.
Saint Killy’s hospital in 3rd story is a homage to Killy from the manga Blame!
Cat’s and Hagon children Serafia, Amanda, Anders and Viktor are named after my great-great-great grandparents and great-great grandparents.
The dress Cat is wearing in the 5th comic says GBH. Charged G.B.H is a British punk band, which started playing in 1979 and still plays in 2022. Listen to G.B.H’s album City Baby Attacked By Rats here.
While Dinky Sugar looks like the dancer from Caravan Palance’s “Lone Digger” music video, that was a pure coincidence. She was supposed to be just a passbying background character and nothing more.
Dinky Sugar’s name is a homage to Mossworm’s comic of a butterfly which says “Sippy. Drinky Sugar”. I ran into it while drawing Dinky’s story and it made me laugh so much. I love the comic and the butterfly!
Dinky means small in British English.
Joon’s honorific broidi to Alrick means a brother in South-Finnish slang. I’m certain he calls Death-Head women as systeri (sister with the same slang)
The women and how I draw them in story 6 are inspired by the softness, sensuality and roundness a mangaka Rumiko Takahashi uses in her art when drawing sexy women.
Aditi is wearing a wig as pure lizard people don’t grow hair.
Aditi is not inspired by Egyptian art, though she does look like one.
Aditi’s is a Hindi name meaning boundles, limitless or innocence. I found out after the first comic that Aditi is one of the Hindu goddesses. Goddess Aditi rules many things, like sky, fertility, earth, past and the future.
Viv is a fan of the TV series Princess Blue. It’s a homage to an Australian cartoon series Bluey, which I love to death. It’s genuinely a fun, happy mood series (with awesome voice acting!), where parents get involved with their daughters Bluey’s and Bingo’s plays (the same way Joon tends to play with his niece Viv). Here’s a little snippet of Bluey’s family’s car trips.
Kahamet is based on a man in a grey suit and a black goat’s head I met in a dream in 2019. He introduced himself as Kahamet.
The Royal AOR Hotel in story 8 is a homage to my other character, A or R, from my comic FUZZY.
Alrick tells Rena that she’s the best boss he’s ever had, which implies he has had earlier DH-bosses prior to Rena.
Lou-Lou is pronounced like Luu-Luu. Luu in Finnish means a bone, so she’s basically Bone-Bone. Our own Moon-Moon haha! This is not intentional. I realized it months after Lou-Lou first appeared.
In story 9, the ship in the harbor is named かわいい (kawaii). I was learning hiragana the time I drew the comic.
The city behind the reporter in the beginning of story 10 is Helsinki. The early 18th century building behind her is one of my old working places.
This wasn’t intentional but there is an open pool near these buildings in Helsinki.
Pearl’s frustration with the divination’s message is based on my own experience with working with divination tools since age 16.
In my comic FUZZY, the protagonist Irene is a modern day seer and her surname is Pearl. DHD Pearl’s name is a small homage nod to Irene.
Pearl’s surname Helmi means a pearl in Finnish. So she’s Pearl Pearl.
DHD HQ manager Alyssee McRoth’s surname is a nod to my favorite comic, Sláine, as Sláine’s surname is MacRoth.
Algoth is named after a famous Finnish 1920′s smuggler Algoth Niska.
Dio is wearing the boots I had when I was a teenager.
Loid has the same piercings as I do on his left ear.
Loid first appeared in my short comic ARE, transferring from there to my other comic FUZZY, appearing as an antagonist in both stories. In FUZZY, he’s a magical being from Jotuni race, but in Death-Head’s Deal he’s a magician. Loid is a character who visits many projects of mine.
Loid’s name is an acronym from Idol, as I’m a big fan of Billy Idol.
Kaosa is also an acronym from Osaka, where I visit regularly.
Okupio, which Grimm suggests as a honeymoon trip target, is an acronym from Finnish city Kuopio, which is basically my home area.
Kizzie is based on an 1950′s American actress Mamie van Doren.
Despite Kizzie being a singer, she’s got social anxiety in group gatherings, especially if she needs to do sports. That’s my unfortunate(?) trait, too.
Kizzie’s brother Remy is based on a model Mighty Moustache. I designed his hair a bit after Mass Effect Andromeda character Reyes Vidal, who is my favorite Mass Effect character and romance option.
Remy’s small Aries sign tattoo is my astrological sign.

One thing I don't get about the whole batgirl movie fiasco is that the comics are still there? You can even read them online for free? Batgirl doesn't need Hollywood to show she's famous, she's needs fans who like her as a character not as a brand.

It's a way to pick up some new fans for one, a lot of people that don't engage with the characters in the comic books and such.
You can really tell when you go and see how Batman is played in some of the movies, one of the better lines I've seen about him is 'if you can't picture this version of batman comforting a small child, then the writers didn't write Batman they wrote, I can't remember,

Don't know why I always say hang on, not like you're gonna see it till I publish it anyhow.
Only saw the one with Afleck as Batman, was Justice League he was good there I think, Christian Bale kinda failed this particular Batman test imho, but people liked it and it let different writers try and take him in a different direction.
Really liked Michael Keaton.
Back around to the subject at hand, the movies and cartoons, tv shows, all that good stuff that happens outside of the comic book crowd it diversifies the fandom.
People that don't have the time or money to start in on the comics can sit and watch a 2 hour movie or a TV show every Tuesday evening staring a hero from their childhood that they don't have any other reasonable way of interacting with anymore.
It's also a great way for them to introduce their kids to the world they love without a whole lot of pressure or need for backstory.
The Toby and Andrew Spiderman incarnations gave you enough to be going on with, the MCU one came in and assumed we already knew about the bite and uncle Ben so they skipped that bit and gave us hot aunt May in exchange.
I think a lot of people are bummed about this particular Batgirl getting pulled because of the actress's ethnicity which is something they'd like to see happen.
It will eventually, hopefully in a way that doesn't reek of tokenism.
Fuck man into the Spiderverse was genius, I don't know enough about the different universes in the comic world so it may have been something going round for a long time.
Remember Stan Lee commenting about the costume don't recall if it was on purpose at first or not, but it was noticed that anyone could be a spider person they're fully covered so who would know.
And now I'm having mental images of some kind of time warp sending a black Spiderman back to 1920's NYC, but they're still your friendly neighborhood Spiderman, so the racists don't know they're cheering for and toasting a black man.
and I'm gonna stop because I just realized adhd brain took over again and I need to get a better handle on that at some point.

So here’s a new character I’ve come up with. He’s basically my own 1920’s cartoon character, inspired mainly by the original Oswald the Rabbit shorts. He’s still in his early design stages so I’m sorry if he looks to simplistic or too similar to Oswald. He’s supposed to be a plucky American soldier in WW1 who gets into mishaps, hence him being called a “Doughboy” (for those who don’t know that was a nickname for American soldiers in WW1). The shorts will mostly take place in bases or in the trench Donnie is stationed at. The three other Characters I have planned are Howitzer Harold, a large but friendly soldier who can carry cannons with his bare hands, The Sargent, the angry hot headed superior to Donnie’s squad, who wishes Donnie would try to stop with his heroics and occasional slacking off, and Emilie Reynard, a caring and kind French nurse who is Donnie’s best friend. Adventures in Music: Melody (1953) - Ward Kimball
Let´s discuss 1950s shortcuts!
Technique:
Like most of the animated films we have talked about, this short film was created using the well-known cells to animate the characters and technicolor to add color to the animation. Both of these technics were used because they helped create a high-quality animation and make it way easier to capture each frame.
Representation:
This cool animated shortcut starts with an Owl Professor asking his class, full of birds, to find melody around them. Professor Owl plays a tune on a small piano to show how melodies are made. Then, the class discovers all the different melodic sounds around them. Professor Owl says that the only two creatures that can sing are birds and humans, he shows this by transforming the words of the human into a melody. The next scene shows how melodies are present in the various stages of a person's life, from birth, followed by school, then college; followed by dating and getting married, and finally old age and death. Finally, we see all the birds singing together till the final credits.
Reception:
The first world showing of Melody in public was shown in two Los Angeles theatres on its release day, including the Paramount Theatre. But this film was popularized when shown as part of the Disneyland 3D Jamboree at the Fantasyland Theatre hosted by the Mouseketeers from 1956 to 1964. It was shown alongside other 3D shorts like Working for Peanuts. The 3D process never really caught on with theatre audiences because of the need to wear polarized glasses. This film was the first in a proposed series of shorts where Professor Owl would teach musical principles to his class, but only one more was made. Some years later it was released on DVD: once on Fantasia 2000 and then on Disney Rarities: Celebrated Shorts, 1920s–1960s. Because of all of these releases, we can tell that the reception was never too good for the public, but the film remains as part of Disney history
I decided to watch this shortcut on Youtube because of the kind of abstract aesthetic the film has, it caught my eye because it is not a very Disney-like aesthetic, so if you’re looking to take a look at a different Disney cartoon you should watch Adventures in Music. I loved the animation style and the somewhat cut-out look it has, it was refreshing.

Spotlight: Ties That Bind
This one’s a doozy folks! If you missed the last spotlight you can go read it here, but strap in for The Ties That Bind, an absolutely brilliant take on humanformers. It’s hosted here at @tiesthatbind-tf created by @artsy-hobbitses!
Q) Give us a run down of your cont! What's it about, what's it called, what's it like?
Ties That Bind is a humanformers-based original continuity which is part Science Fiction and part Alternate History where the invasion of Quintessons and introduction of their technology to Earth in 1920 sets the world and humankind on a completely different trajectory. The active narrative spans a period from 1920 to 2070, covering the First and Second Quintesson Wars, the interplanetary Antillan War (leading to the creation of Unicron on Mars) and the Great War which involves the Autobots, Decepticons and Functionist stalwarts, and how it affects the characters.
The cast is pretty sprawling and the narrative is mostly centred around human drama with bits of humor interspaced and a dash of horror (mostly centred around how the previous government often chose to utilize the technology left behind from the Quintesson Wars to create new systems of oppression, which affected many of the characters, in the name of worldwide rebuilding efforts).
Q) What characters take the lead here? Any personal favorites?
I will admit to this continuity being very much heavy on the relationship between Old Bastards Optimus Prime and Megatron, which is given considerable weight as they were best friends who had known each other since childhood and were deeply intrinsic to each other’s growths as individuals, which makes it all the worse when guilt and betrayal enter the party. Despite being captains in two corners of this battle, there’s a part of them that just cannot let go of their pasts together and they need to reconcile with how this will affect their agenda (Megatron) and how they lead their team (Optimus) who don’t necessarily share their history.
Other characters with significant development include:
Starscream, a Cold Construct in a toxic working relationship with Megatron with whom he is hiding a dark secret, who struggles to balance the underhanded viciousness he believes he needs to gain power and his innate desire from his Senate days to make the world a better place.
Windblade, a Camien native who fights her government’s apathy concerning the situation on Earth which they see as unsalvageable compared to their more Utopian society.
Prowl, a Cold Construct raised from childhood to be a cop in a police state, who finds out that he was brainwashed several times to ensure his obedience and efficacy as a government asset and is now working to reclaim some semblance of the humanity he was never allowed to feel and figure out how much of him is who he really is and how much is programming.
Hound, a sheltered Beastman who joined the fight to ensure that Beastmen the world over would have the same rights he did in his homeland of Shetland Isle, but is forcefully stripped of his humanity and faced with his animal side during the war and has to relearn what personhood means amid his trauma.
Q) Is there a bigger point to this, like a theme or some catharsis? Or is it just fluffy fun?
God with the amount of time I spent sleepless trying to figure out how the logistics of this or the semantics of that were supposed to work in universe, I cannot for the life of me say it’s fluffy fun, but I can’t exactly say it hasn’t been pretty engaging either!
There’s elements of war being messy for everyone involved where there doesn’t seem to be a clear line between friend and foe at times, but I think for most part it prescribes to Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s belief that people are inherently good, but are corrupted by the evils of society. Despite its dark themes (Including but not limited to child abuse, torture, illegal experimenation and brainwashing), love and friendships do prevail, kindness does beget kindness, found families are made, even the smallest actions matter, and things do get better because there are people on both sides who genuinely want to, and strive to make it better.
With Cold Constructs and Beastmen, it also delves heavily into what it means to be human; to have agency and personhood.
There’s also a strong undercurrent of taking responsibility for one’s actions, even if they were made with the best of intentions (Avoidance of this is what eats up Starscream and Megatron from the inside, and what Starscream eventually embraces).
Q) How long have you been working on it?
There’s two answers to this!
I’ve had a Humanformers-related universe going all the way back to 2007 around the time the first Bayformers came out---basically I had a choice between learning to draw cars or draw people (I was an anthro artist back then) and I immediately chose people.
The 2007 draft however had no worldbuilding or connective storylines and was mostly a fun little venture into character design and practice which were actually instrumental to me experimenting and learning how to draw humans properly.
I left the fandom for about a decade and when I came back to it in late 2020 around September via the War for Cybertron series on Netflix, I immediately got hooked on the 2005 IDW comics I missed out on and wanted to get around to updating my old designs as well find a way to translate several of the concepts I wanted to explore in a human sense, so the 2020 update became its own full-fledged original continuity with detailed worldbuilding and history.

Say hello to my workspace! I’ve been working exclusively on the Ipad Pro since late 2016, which is fantastic because I can basically whip up concepts and sketches on the go anywhere. Nowhere is too out of bounds to work on TTB!

Q) YESSSSS alright I must admit this is one of my favorite Rungs, and certainly my fave within TTB. Amazing. Phew, anyway. Where did you draw inspiration from? What canons, what other fiction, what parts of real life?
TTB was initially conceived as a faithful retelling of the IDW 2005 narrative before it was transformed into its own continuity and as such, it borrows heavily from concepts and mirrored plot lines introduced in that run! I chose to have the series inspired off it specifically for the amount of history and worldbuilding it introduced to the franchise.
Anime like Gunslinger Girl and Beastars inspired the depictions of Cold Constructs, especially the more harrowing aspects of their upbringing as government assets instead of children, and Beastmen (Beastformers) in TTB.
I haven’t depicted the world itself in my art all too much, but the architecture from Tiger and Bunny, which has sort of a futuristic Art Deco feel to it, is what you’d usually see in major cities. There is an in-universe reason for that---with a Point Of Divergence set in 1920 followed by 25 years (an entire generation) of progress basically being kicked to the curb due to the Quintesson wars, mankind was basically in a time-locked bubble until the end of the wars, and by then their heroes were 1920s-style rebellion leaders, which lead to 1920s fashion (especially among the Manual Working Class---Megatron, Jazz and Optimus all rock 1920s fashion at some point of their lives) and architecture being celebrated and retained as sort of a reminder of how things were before The Invasion. This anime’s background design is also where I adopted the tiered system TTB’s major metropolises are often built on (with each tier being designated to a different working class) from.
The main artistic style itself is a love letter to 90s cartoons, in particular Gargoyles’ deep and drama-driven character narratives and designs as well as The Centurions’ take on body armor logistics.
I also take inspiration, especially armor-wise, from the characters’ given heritage and background. As an example, Hotrod who is depicted as Irish has the flames on his armor done up with Celtic knots. Welsh aristocrat Mirage’s armor bears olden knight-style filigree and has his Autobot logo designed as a coat of arms. Indonesian Soundwave’s armor and Decepticon logo takes cues from Batik and Wayang Kulit while their mask is based off the Barong.
Q) They are absolutely gorgeous! Show off something you're really proud of, a particular favorite part of your cont.
The worldbuilding in general! Most Humanformers I’ve seen tend to treat it like a fun exercise which it is and is definitely valid, but I found myself wanting a full-fledged world to lose myself in and I sought to try and make that world myself by drafting a detailed history and timeline of events which would affect ongoing narratives, having indepth worldbuilding to include almost all societal aspects of the universe and expanding on the concept of Beastmen and Cold Constructs existing in a human setting.
I’m not so secretly proud of the research and diversity included to make the cast look like the multicultural, globally-based team that they were meant to be instead of being locked to a single region! My original draft from 2007 was, to put it simply, quite culturally monolithic and I wanted to improve on that aspect with TTB.
I’m also proud that I’ve kept to it this far! I’m a notoriously flaky person jumping from one idea/fandom to another and to have kept at this continuity for the better part of ten months is honestly a personal feat.
Art-wise, this scene depicting a young Megatron working alongside Terminus and Impactor (cameo by @weapon-up-wallflower‘s OC Missit!) is definitely one of my favorites since it helps build up the world they live in and plays to familial bonds and comfort found in one another despite their less than ideal circumstances.
Q) Everything has come together so beautifully, you absolutely should be proud. What other fan canons do you love and why? Would you like to see them interviewed?
I am dying to hear more from @iscaredspider’s Sparkpulse continuity! Her designs are MIND-BLOWINGLY GORGEOUS and I want to hear more about what inspired her to work on it!

Previously on the Louie Inc Arc, Louie, after believing he had no skills and it was a matter of when not if he ws going to die, found his talent: seeing all the angles and thus being Sharper than the Sharpies. With newfound confidence and a chip on his shoulder from Scrooge saying he could one day be a bigger success than Scrooge himself, founding Louie Inc as a result. But what is Louie Inc? Does he actually have a plan or a bunch of buzzwords. And what does STORKULES, MANLY GAY OUT OF MYTH have to do with any of this? Join me under the cut to find out.
We open with Louie giving Scrooge his sales pitch that is essentially...
Naturally Scrooge buys none of it. I mean he’s somewhere in his hundreds, he’s probably seen about 80 thousand pitches that amount to “I have no plan but give me money anyway”. There’s a reason there’s a Butch Hartman shaped crater on the lawn from where he threw his ass out.
Scrooge does mentor the lad, or at least attempt to pointing out he needs an actual product or service (Louie rejects the idea of a lemonade stand as too easy), or as he puts it “Find a problem and create a solution”.
While the basic PRINCIPAL isn’t bad, find something people want or need and provide it, phrasing it that way sounds like “find a problem people are having and exploit the shit out of that problem for fun and profit.” Granted that IS a guiding principal of business, it’s just not something an uncle should be teaching his kids. They should be teaching them about the anime and cartoons they grew up with as I do with my niece and nibling.
He does show him a valid example of this in action in the form of Donald. Turns out Donald has found a good way to make money while he looks for a job, can relate: since Duckburg is facing a housing shortage, likely because several square blocks probably get destroyed by Scrooge’s Adventures, Glomgold’s Schemes, Superhero Battles, whatever creation went horribly wrong for Gyro, etc at least once a week. So he’s taken it upon himself to offer up the spare room to whoever can rent it.. and to steal Scrooge’s chandelier which even when caught he still takes anyway. Scrooge.. you called the guy a god-damn moocher in the season premiere, despite the fact he lives there soley because YOU offered and because he’s you know, being responsible and staying by his boys so they have their father figure around. So yeah I feel he’s doing this partly out of spite as is the McDuck way. I mean if your going to call him a freeloader just for being a responsible parent, then he’s going to take it up a damn notch.
Scrooge proceeds to laugh off Louie wanting a million dollars and gives him a dime instead because of course he was. Seriously Louie there are two other billionaires in town who are FAR dumber and far more easily swindled. Just go get star up capital from them. Hell with Glomgold all you’d have to do is tell him it’d upset scrooge and he’d literally throw money at you. Or give you a shark full of money. He needs the shark back though. He’s family.
Meanwhile Donald prepares for his new tenant and finds.. THE INCREDIBLE STORKULES! Who to his mounting horror as he realizes it, IS the new tenant. And who throws him into the sun. Cue credits.
So after Donald somehow survives being thrown into the sun, Storkules explains why he’s here: Zeus responded to his son playing the lute a lot like any rational reasonable
No of course he responded to the “crime” of “playing his instrument a lot” with sending a swarm of harpies on the town then blaming Storkules for it and casting him out. What’s most shocking is not the action, this is honestly him staying the course of being a fucking disgrace, but that Zeus somehow ISN’T the biggest asshole i’ve dealt with this week. No that honor is reserved as always for this bitch:
Keep in mind she manages to be this obnoxious in only TWO scenes. Also keep in mind I had to put up with Julie for a MUCH larger chunk of the previous two volumes I covered before volume 5 yesterday for my Scott Pilgrim Retrospective and she is ALWAYS like this and you now feel my pain.
This does create a problem though: Zeus casts Storkules out until he’s a responsible adult.. and thus paints Storkules as the bad guy... in a situation where the only other person in the story sent a swarm of HARPIES down at him for simply playing his music too loud. It just dosen’t work as a catalyst: Storkules objectively did nothing wrong. The only person he annoyed was a person who clearly dosen’t love, respect or like his son in any way shape or form anyway and essentially assaulted him and a bunch of innocent people via harpie and then cast him out. Zeus is an abusive asshole and i’ts weird the narrative sides with HIM and not our well meaning doofus. Zeus being an asshole with harpies is not a bad catalyst for the episode, and the harpies being unleashed is used well.. it’s just not a good catalyst for THIS story to try and portray an abuser as in the right. And make no mistake Zeus is a domestic abuser: he had his son mind controlled to try and MURDER innocent people, something Storkules begged him not to do, sent a swarm of creatures after him for the crime of playing his music too loud and in his next episode manipulatives Storkules sad emotional state for personal gain. Why would you try and paint THIS jackass as in the right?
Speaking of painting this jackass in the right sadly.. this episode does not do my boy donald justice. In most episodes he’s pretty nuanced and i’ts fair enough he’d be frustrated by Storkules as a roomate. Storkules has little sense of personal space, breaks his stove thinking theirs hydra in it, makes a mess of the kitchen making them a meal, and in general clearly dosen’t know how to live with a roomate much less in modern society. He has valid concerns and the episode COULD have used it that way.. but he’s also horribly impatient with Storkules. He refuses to get the guy just hasn’t had to live in a modern society and dosen’t know HOW to function in it and instead of helping him just gets mad again and again and gets really pissed when it’s clear Storkules dosen’t have a job and didn’t consider paying rent. He’s not WRONG to want him to pay Rent, despite what ironically the musical Rent would try and have you believe, but he dosen’t have any patience with the guy. And stork isn’t nearly coming on as strong as he normally does. The worst he does is cook the guy lunch and bring his donald fan art with him. Which we don’t see but I am assuming is mostly naked. What i’m saying is for once that while still bombastic, Storkules isn’t trying to force a relationship/friendship on him and simply wants to learn t be an adult from his best friend.. and Donald isn’t bothering teaching him.
Asking for rent or for him not to destroy the stove is fine, but not explaining WHY he needs either of those things or why he needs boundaries, he makes a roomate list, isn’t helping the guy. And this would be fine... but the episode dosen’t call Donald out on it for no real reason. It feels like it’s setting up for a “you should learn to wokrk with someone instead of just screaming at them aseop” that never comes and like with Zeus takes his side because shutup.
I’d also LIKE to say this is the only time the writers reduced one of the cast to a caracture of themselves.. but I can’t. Several episodes in season 3 forgot Louie’s character development and another episode in season 2, The Duck Knight Returns!, somehow reduced both Scrooge and Dewey to parodies of themselves with Scrooge SOMEHOW, despite Della as stubborn as she is being in his care and by his side for decades and Movies bein ga huge business, not having seen a movie since the 1920′s and not knowing how they work and Dewey being reduced to just hyperactive moron. It isn’t as common as other shows like say Regular Show, The Loud House or, for the exact reason I lost intrest, Rick and Morty, but I still expect better, especially since they went into this season KNOWING Donald would be gone for half of it and this would likely be one of his only spotlight episodes.
Back at the good part of the plot, Louie is having a company meeting aka already treating Huey and Webby like his employees. Webby of course is glad to sign on, if little help in actually coming up with a product while Huey just wants to nope out. And if your wondering why Dewey isn’t involved Louie outright says he’d make a bad employee and while Dewey rises from his bed to object.. he stops halfway to opening his mouth and concludes he has a point. Best gag of the episode. Louie being louie easily cons Huey into staying by making Webby his charts officer.
So the three have a corporate retreat at Funso’s... granted they don’t have a product but Louie figures this might help. Huey.. still wants out of this and suggest since they already spent what they had on ski ball “Company over?”. It’s clear that Huey just sees this as another one of Louie’s short sighted schemes... and while he’s not ENITRELY wrong, Louie has genuine ambition.. he just has no earthly idea what he’s doing and is shooting way too high.. but for understandable reasons. 1) He’s 11 at this point. 11 year olds aren’t great at business strategy or reinging it in. 2) he wants to live up to what Scrooge said to prove he can be successful and really be worth something like his mom was.
But sometimes fate throws you one and the harpies bust in. And while Louie wants to do nothing and hope they go away Huey and Webby spring into action.. as does Storkules, who had to leave but warns donald there’s Orzo in the slowcooker and to not open it “LEST THE PASTA FAIL TO ABSORB THE BROTH!” Which is just.... Chris’ best line dleivery the episode. He says it like he’s saying the title of an old Stan Lee and Jack Kirby comic, i’ts wonderful.
So our heroes defeat them and Louie steps in to charge for the service and quickly comes up with a company idea and name “Harp-B-Gone” (A Subsidary of Louie Inc). Louie hires Storkules on the spot. Storkules proudly tells Donald he has a job the next day and goes off to it. What follows is our heroes hilarously shooting a commerical with Storkules playing a baby to promote themselves so they can help who needs it. They just need to find out what they want.. and thanks to the JWG and the harpies stealing it find out they go after people’s most treasured posessions
Cue Ghostbusters-Style Montage
And this isn’t just me saying thing. The Rewriting History Entry (Which as a series weirdly stops around mid-season 2 and I don’t get why frank hasn’t gone back and finished it since) states they specifically based this whole operation on ghostbusters and the entire sequence of our heroes cleanin up the town reminds me of it. The highlight of it is a glomgold cameo where he’s kidnapped.. and refuses to pay so Louie just lets him go. And were this an innocent person who couldn’t afford it, i’d call him a monster.. but it’s glomgold. he brought this on himself.. and also sues himself for it. Wonder if he won.
So with their stars rising, our heroes get booked on the hottest show in town: Dewey Dew-Night! I had honestly forgotten there was a Dewey Dew-Night segment in there, and delighted I get to talk about this recurring bit.
It’s one of the shows funniest runners and just perfectly FITS Dewey: of course the most egotistical and energetic of the kids would not only want to be a late hnight host but make up his own show. I also love the slow evolution of it: it started as something everyone clearly knew about but he stlill tried to keep hidden, slowly escalated to him allowing the rest of his siblings (Webby very much included) and the giant man who stalks his uncle in, and by later this season he’s putting the show online in the web shorts and gladly shooting it into space, with Season 3 having him spend the first half of let’s get dangerous making a documentary that includes an episode of the show featuring Darkwing. It’s a small thing sure, but it’s the little things like this that make the show special.
The show does reveal a problem though as it turns out they’ve GOT all the harpies and while Storkules merely wanted to help, Louie points out they need more to keep a buisness going and naturally never bothered to ask Storkules just how many there were. They need SOME plan to get going. Webby submits a legitamte and great idea, training the harpies as she’s been trying to do in the background of the episode and aside from a hole in the floor they are starting to listen. But Huey is an ass about it and not only shoots it down saying let’s keep the dangerous creatures contained, even though A) he has no idea WHERE they’ve been kept so he can’t verify it’s safe, and since i’ts Donald’s Closet no no it’s not. and B)There’s no where he knows of to keep them. He isn’t aware of the other bin till next season. and C) it’s not ehtical to keep creatures locked up forever epsecially since while the harpies are dangerous they arent’ MALEVOLENT and are clearly acting on instinct. oh and for D) at least she has a plan to keep the company going instead of just wanting to end this and cash out.
Which Huey tries to.. but naturally Louie spent all their money on...
So their broke.. and Storkules has no rent money and feels like a failure despite having done NOTHING wrong. We do get a clever little nod to Disney’s hercules though “I”m not a hero, i’m a zero”. Webby rightfully glares at Louie who decides to fix it... by sneaking into Donald’s house that night to free the harpies.
Though to the shows credit it’s a VERY bad idea, and Storkules coming in mid attempt and congradulating Louie when he lies about checking the door gets the kid to come clean. And it’s a nice character moment: He could still go through with it.. but it’s clear he realizes just HOW low he was about to sink to save his own skin and that as much as Storkules WANTS a paycheck and deserves one, it’s not worth hurting people to get it. Louie tries to justify after this.. but can’t.
Unforutnately Donald took a lot of stupid pills this episode, yells about his no pets rule and frees them instead of you know, THINKING for five minutes.
So yeah NATURALLY Donald is an angry shit about it , refusing to actually TALK to Storkules about this or maybe admit this is partly HIS OWN FAULT. Yes their both at fault, Storkules shoudln’t of shoved a bunch of harpies in a closet. That’s a classic blunder. But Donald still opened it and isn’t called out on taking zero responsibility. Huey sees the fracas and just takes down their days without an accident placard, good stuff and he and webby arrive to help. Donald fights with Storkules and Storkules worries about loosing his friend.. lead to them going after the thing he values most aka donlad and hyjacking the house boat, though the kids manage to get aboard.
As Storkules saves Donald, Louie realizes the most precious thing he has is his merch and willingly gives it, and his buisness up to save everyone. It’s good character stuff and shows that despite his problems with greed, Louie IS a good kid and will do the right thing. It’s what seperates him from the Rouges Gallery the family faces: He has FLEXIBLE morals but he has morals when it comes down to it. So everyone tosses the stoff to help direct the hapries and make it home tying them up. Donald has a heart to heart with Storkules and agrees to help him find another place, but still considers him a friend and they hug. Awww.
One intresting thing I DID find out from rewriting history is they originally fully intended to have Storkules STAY on the houseboat. He was going to be a permenant member of the household, at least as far as Season 2 was concenred and plans were made for several episodes down the road: the whole bit with him in “The Golden Spear” was simply because he lived there, he was going to be the one Della met in the houseboat, obliviously guilting her about what she’d missed, and he was going to set off the kids subplot in “Whatever Happened to Donald Duck?”
This ended up not happneing for logistical reasons: Frank, and I swear this was the term he used, felt they already had the perfect Himbo in Launchpad and it was just too much HImbo energy for the two to coexist without one taking the others screen time or neither getting a lot.
The next reason was having a god around simply broke the story: He cited the gilded man from “Nothing Can Stop Della Duck!” as a specific example. There were just too many hoops to jump to have him not break any story he should be around for.
Finally with Della being added to the cast soon there simply wasn’t room in the main cast. Della brought it up to 9, Storkules would make it 10, and as i’ve gone on about the show already had trouble ballancing it’s cast, something Frank admitted to. Adding him would both be too big a stiatus quo change and be one on top of the massive one of Della joining the cast. So he was dropped back to recurring and only showed up one more time. And while it was the right call I am dismayed he didn’t show up for the whatever happened to donald duck subplot and it does feel very weird he never adresses Donald being gone despite, at least for season 2, apparently living in Duckburg. Otherwise though as funny as this wouldv’e been.. yeah it was the right call.
Scrooge returns... having been absent all episode because otherwise it wouldn’t work and easily saw Louie loosing it all coming.. but gives him a can of lemonade for his troubles and comforts the boy. The heart of htis arc and what makes it work at it’s best.. is these two. Scrooge GENUINELY wants to help Louie see his potetial successor in buisness: oh sure adventure wise he’s throughly covered.. but Webby, Dewey and Della all are more focused on the addventure part and that’s where their passion and talent lies, Huey’s better at science and given his close frinedship with fenton and how much that part of things seems to truly inspire him, i’ts what he was born for, and Donald just wants a regualar life and can’t manage his own life much less a company.
Louie is the only one in his family whose the right fit to inhereit that part of his legacy and I feel that’s why he takes a special intrest in him and webby over the other two: While he loves all of them and will clearly again leave a piece of his fortune and empire to all of them, Webby is the most like him, as we later find out not coincidentally in the slightest, when it comes to adventuring and curosity and a love of exploration. But Louie is the most like him in other ways; He’s cynical, money driven and passionate. Scrooge simply wants him to be as good a person and buisnessperson as he can be and is trying to push him in the right direction. And does so here by pointing out that failure isn’t a huge problem..it happens, comes with the terriotiry and as we’ve seen with life and times, even with portions of it clearly not happening in this universe, he failed a LOT to get here. What matters is that he tries and tries to do it the right way.
Scrooge also sympathizes as he was buying a lemonade company in cape suzette, giving Louie the can as a present... but laments there’s no cheap effective way to deliver the lemons. Louie notices the harpies going after the can after he throws it and Webby controlling them with it and muses that theyd idn’t think about what THEY wanted.. nad rightfully gets punched across the lawn by Webby, whose had to spend an entire episode having her surrogate brothers talk down to her and ignore her valid ideas. She dosen’t even open her eyes she just bops him one.
So we end with Scrooge having enlisted the hapries, Louie trying to take credit again and both realizing they might just steal the lemons instead of work for them. Ha ha ha their going to get so sued.
Final Thoughts:
This one was mediocre. It has some good points, Louies arc continues to fascenate me, Huey’s done with this shit attitude is hilarous, and Storkules is at his best in this episode: his crush on Donald is toned down from this..

So it’s not WITHOUT merit: I love me a ghost busters style plot, there are great jokes and Chris Dimatopolis is a gem as always. Glad he’s getting work after this show on Invincible and hope he gets to play Darkwing again some day. But the Donald stuff and the fairly predictable plot drag this one down. I’ts fairly obvious they’ll run out of harpies, Louie will have spent the money and they’ll somehow get free. It’s not a terrible episode but it’s it’s sandwiched story wise between two straight up classics on both sides: the previous two episodes were even better than I remembered and the next two are incredibly good: Whateve Happened to Della Duck?! is one of their finest hours and The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck, while not making my best of list for the series as a whole is still one of my favorites for the season. It’s just disapointing this one wasn’t nearly as good as I remmebered and it’s understandable why I forgot almost all of it, unlike the previous two episodes. Thankfully as I said better’s over the horizon.

One of two weeklong breaks for the arc, the other being the first week of July where i’m on vacation anyway (Though i’ll be doing the episode I would’ve done for that week the week before to keep the pace up, so no worries),

Hi everyone, i wanted to make a post about Eliott and his insta. Especially how meaningful it tends to be. Back in S3 we know Eliott set up a POLARIS cipher puzzle to find @srodulv, and he would tend to post stuff that would foreshadow his personal SKAM or actually the plot e.g. double trouble cartoon, Virginia Woolf, My Own Private Idaho etc.
With this season S3 Eliott is back again, and once again his insta is foreshadowing the plot. Ok, just hear my rambling theory out. Eliott likes film, works in a film store and is posting movie recommendations as well as his own little obscure movies. We know the spoiler. We know a movie is gonna be made soon that will cause drama. Let's look at Eliott's movie insta posts for a minute.
1: Moonlight - a queer movie about same sex love. Specifically in this movie is a theme of the character struggling to come to terms with his identity and connection is very scary. The character has issues with being touched. How does this relate to the show. Well Lola is a depressive who has developed feelings for Maya. Lola has no issues with sleeping with others on her benders but it's pretty obvious that it's self destruction and not true connection. Lola is lonely and hurting and when she hurts she uses vices to bring some release e.g. cutting, drugs, alcohol, sex etc.
But Lola is looking for true connection but there is an intimacy fear there which makes her angry and closed off. In EP:1 Lola was taking pictures of the city. She took a picture of a quote "I want to get under your skin" and what is happening so far is that Maya has gotten under Lola's skin. So safe to say that if true about Eliott's Insta. Lola/Maya and W/W connection and love is this theme.
2: Parasite: Ok this movie is about not falling in line and screwing the system. The Rich own everything and it's basically class inequality and the characters obviously are sick of it and seek to do something about this unfair class system. Ok how does it relate to the show? The first thing is that the Lecomptes are lower class, they live in flats and are tight on money. The dad either does shift work, or doesn't work at all. Daphne told the dad that her birthday isn't an issue and she knows that they need to watch their money. They end up throwing Daphne a surprise birthday and Daphne whines hiding in the kitchen not wanting to have it as she is ashamed and prideful over the gang knowing that they live in flats. She's hidden her home and always had pretenses and airs and graces. Now the gang are in it and she's focusing on the class inequality between her and her friends. Lola tells her to wake up and go to her friends who love her. Daphne does.
The second part of the theme of screwing the system is urbex/lamifex/Otteli. So Eliott is the urbex legend Otteli. He has a passion that is very illegal and dangerous and he does it at night channeling his raccoon persona. Lamifex love urban exploring, specifically around the La Petite Ceinture area, which is a huge abandoned railway system that runs throughout Paris. It's very popular in reality for urbex and the underground Parisian Art scene. Lamifex connect to Otteli as they revere him and he's a rockstar in their community. It's not the last we see of this theme as there's gonna be more urbex with and without Otteli. So this theme is ongoing. But basically it's the intoduction of urbex/grafitti art and our characters intersecting for the S6 plot.
(Edit: wanted to add another movie Eliott chose in the recent mardi scene and watched with Lola.)
3: The Kid: this is a 1920's black and white silent movie directed by Charlie Chaplin. It's about the relationship between a tramp and an abandoned child. The tramp takes the child under his wing and mentors the child. They have fun and friendship as the movie is a dramedy (comedic drama). They get into schemes together and look out for each other. How does it relate to the show? Ok, so Lola is the abandoned kid. She's lost and looking for connection. Maya has ghosted her and she's taken to wandering the street at night while the dad works to avoid Daphne. Eliott is the tramp who is working in the video store. Lola now reaches out to him as she is desperately trying not to slip and go back to the club and get high and forget.
Eliott sees her with a smile and a "how do you do?" He is instantly welcoming and open. He literally (arm around the shoulder) takes her under his wing. He gives her compassion and comfort and expects nothing in return. 😍 he can see she needs to talk but doesn't push her. He sees she's homeless, so offers her a seat. He chooses 'The Kid' and they watch it. So this i suspect is the dynamic going forward. Eliott is going to nurture and help Lola. He right now is between her, the club, and her self destructive habits. The source of connection she needs. She's deeply hurt by Maya's silence, and she may not understand it right now but Maya has her reasons for pulling back, as we very much know. Eliott's friendship is gonna help her learn what true connection is, and the importance of holding on to the people in your life. Eliott may also have a story to tell Lola as he can identify with Maya right now (S3 text to lucas over his bipolar)
What Eliott is also going to do is give Lola a sense of purpose, focus, and direction. I don't know how he involves her in the movie he's making but i suspect it may be a moment where he sees her vulnerable to her vices (drink/drugs) or she simply tells him she's an addict. But Eliott involving Lola and Lamifex in his uni project is gonna distract Lola so much. And the movie may even help Lola with her love towards Maya. POLARIS is about connection and the fear of it.
The Kid is also a comedic drama, one of the first of it's kind. Chaplin's words were "a picture with a smile...and perhaps, a tear" meaning the relationship will be bittersweet, and there will be pain involved among the friendship, and the Eliott and Lola connection will ultimately be a healing one.
Right, so that's Eliott's actual Movie recommendations that he has posted on his insta. Edit: And our boy is gonna keep it up with his pretentious obscure tastes. So I'm just gonna keep editing this each time. 😄
