gog i still can't get over minish cap vaati's Everything. He is So Fucking Stupid (affectionate)
Like. This guy's establishing character moment is, in order:
he's introduced as having won an entire tournament to get to touch a magic chest and get a cool sword, which was the prize for said tournament
turns around and does a goddamn evil soliloquy TEN FEET AWAY FROM THE GUARDS who were about to hand him his macguffin on a platter
(like this man fucks up his own horribly planned daylight heist because he cannot keep a lid on the dramatics for FIVE FUCKING MINUTES, IN PUBLIC)
(THE BAR WAS ON THE FLOOR VAATI, FUCKING GANONDORF PLAYS THE PIPE ORGAN FOR HIS OWN BOSS INTRO AND HE STILL KNOWS BETTER THAN THIS SHIT)
proceeds to fight the guards (it is, admittedly, a curbstomp for him, but it still clearly wasn't his plan, because otherwise why bother with the tournament)
gloats evilly
opens chest, unleashing a whole bunch of monsters
exposits out loud about Zelda's powers like a nerd while she is actively charging up her magic powers to kick his ass
RECOGNIZES and IDENTIFIES said magic as the special power carried by the female royal line
completely fails to recognize it as the light force he is currently trying to get his hands on (he spends like 99% of the game not figuring this out.)
petrifies her
(i have no idea if link could have deflected this spell if he had managed to get the right angle with his shield but i like to think somewhere there is a very short and very funny alternate timeline where it happens)
(more importantly: no part of vaati's original presumed plan would have involved doing this. he 100% created this situation for himself by being an dramatic idiot and picking a fight for no good reason.)
looks in the chest
there's no light force
considering his stated goals he might be as confused as you are about the monsters tbh
uhhh
evil laugh
teleports the fuck out
He then proceeds to spend the rest of the game trying to figure out where the light force is and ends up having to wait for Ezlo and Link to figure it out first because he was, as far as I can tell, GENUINELY stuck on this part. He fucking kidnaps and impersonates the King, not for access to Zelda, but to… send guards to go look for the Light Force, presumably because he was either running out of ideas or genuinely thought that would work.
None of the guards even had any idea what he was talking about. He's not even good at impersonating the King. He's already sent like twenty people to the dungeon by the time you get there and it hasn't even been a week. Somehow the game spins this as a cunning plan and clever manipulation or something.
(Meanwhile the guards are just. Poking around in random bushes and shit hoping to find the light force. One of them asks you what you think it might look like.)
Zelda is literally right next to the throne and Vaati does not figure it out until you find an actual honest-to-goodness LORE TABLET spelling out that the Light Force is Stored in the Zelda, at which point he's like "ahahaha you've done my work for me this was definitely my plan all along" and takes over the castle and throws a bunch of monsters at you to stall for time while he figures out how to extract the force from her. Somehow he still doesn't think to actually lock the fucking door.

Again back with the point what Gortash enforces his narrative while Ketheric and Orin are the captives of it.
It think it can be easily melted down to if they're satisfied, deep down, with how things are going for them (aside from the Dead Three plan falling. Imagine what it's not falling apart)
I don't think Orin actively thinks of her feelings and her intentions; she is in the never-ending chase for Father's love while knowing down well how much his disapproval and punishment hurts. And she is locked into that position without any way out, doesn't even consider a way out because it's all she has ever known and all she knows there to be and matter. But it's not happy or satisfying existence, Bhaal has no worshippers, only victims.
Ketheric got what he so desperately craved: Isobel is back.
And it's almost as if nothing else matters now. He is a lost man, someone who was good and kind and righteous once, and some part of him remembers this man, remembers the man his wife fell in love with, and hates who he has become. He would do anything Myrkul told him to for Isobel, because Myrkul brought Isobel back. But is he happy? Is he satisfied? Absolutely not. He is Tired. He is the man just waiting to die.
Gortash loves his evil plans and his machinations and he loves his genius and his Steel Watch and all the manipulations he pulls of. It makes him feel clever, better than everyone else, it makes him feel in control of everything, like he truly solved life and everyone else is just clueless a clueless senseless mass of bystanders.
He likes innovation and technology, power and control; and he likes combining these things together.
The only part what's missing is an equal to bask in his glory. The perfect equal candidate was Durge, but Durge is gone (if not played as origin), but some wandering adventurer who managed to defeat Ketheric will suffice, they show promise.
He isn't remorseful, isn't trapped, everything is going according to plan (imagine what it does and the Elder Brain doesn't beat him up to it). He doesn't even feel fear. (I believe he was controlled by that feeling for the majority of his young life, absolutely hated it and got himself a cloth of authority to Cancel This Damn Emotion Forever)
He might be lonely, deep down, he is clearly resentful towards Raphael, the warlock who bought him, and his parents, and everyone who has ever wronged him. But he'll get to them, or already got to them. He loves exactly three things: himself, his inventions and his empire.
Someone by his side is a nice bonus, but it's not the requirement.

Bandido posted an injury update, hopefully whatever option he chooses has a good recovery time and he heals up well with minimal suffering! Bless him for worrying about other people while he's dealing with health issues, I hope he understands he's absolutely worth the wait however long it takes

[cws: psychiatric abuse, torture, homophobia, ableism, sanism, racism, pictures of taxidermy. boy this show is a lot sometimes lmfao]
-
so something @thecottageinthedark noticed recently that i'm still fucked up about is that pericles' cage in the asylum isn't actually a bird cage.
it's a bell jar.
for those who don't know what a bell jar is, it's a type of taxidermy display for preserving delicate specimens, most often birds. it's easy for their feathers to get dusty or disintegrate over time if they're left out in the open; a bell jar not only keeps off dirt and keeps people from touching them, but it's made to create a vacuum inside to keep everything where it is.
another layer to this reference is that the book The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath, is a retelling of her own experiences with mental illness and the attempts made to treat it at the time. notably, one of the major themes of the book is psychiatric abuse.
pericles is also not only a gay man forcefully committed to an asylum in what is most likely intended to be the 70s, but a very obvious and already horribly handled fantasy metaphor for both physically disabled people and POC. (in particular the talking animals' role in the worldbuilding heavily mirrors Black americans irl, which holy shit there is so much to unpack there all by itself. there is So Much)
(fun little bonus on the side: he's kept in a cell with extremely bright blue/white light 24/7, at an angle where it'd be even more difficult to block it out than if it were overhead. this would make it impossible to get any decent fucking sleep, which is widely recognized as one of the worst forms of torture to exist. they did this to him for 20 years straight.)
so, to recap: gay man and analogue for disabled people/POC, who is also portrayed as an ~evil crazy malicious psychopath,~ is kept in not only a display case for scientific specimens, but one specifically made--in-universe and out--to recreate something that is done to his demographic as a metaphorical disabled person/POC.
and not only that, and not only do people talk about him--in front of him, like he's not even there--as a specimen while gawking at him in this position, but he is being displayed like the stuffed and mounted corpse of a disabled person/POC.
he is said to belong on that display for 'the rest of his miserable [disabled/POC] life.' no one disagrees with this. he's painted as smugly bullying the violent abusive guard. in general he's portrayed as Scary and Evil Now for having been in this situation. and when he escapes, it kicks off what end up being the most heavy-duty problems for the protagonists, which result in the Bad Ending for the nibiru timeline; if he had stayed there, continued to be objectified and tortured with homophobic/racist/ableist violence for the rest of his life, the timeline almost certainly wouldn't have been doomed.
and they used a real person's autobiography about their experiences with psychiatric abuse for this. and to position them in the role of someone it should have not only happened to, but been even more horrifically dehumanizing and cruel.
yeah. i..... yeah.
the creators of this show are genuinely really good at putting together layered references like this, some more obscure than others, which are rewarding to discover and add depth when you do, and it is a crying fucking shame that they like to use it for shit like this. god damn lmao

90s run PAD has this rlly annoying trend where he very often write a female character being in love w miguel and suddenly her entire character shrinks down to the scope of what drama this provokes and it's near continually in service to the narratives of men (Gabriel and Miguel interpersonal drama for example). even when there are actually interesting things to be mined from this angle like w lyla its like. this is a pattern w you dude.

crazy how when ts was dating joe, all of the fan commentary about their relationship was based on how genuine it was because of how private it was, and now that she’s dating the football guy that narrative has shifted to joe was ashamed/toxic/wanted to dim her light/resented her stardom. And now that ts and the football guy are jumping from one photo op to the next it’s suddenly “this is how a king treats his queen!! Look how proud he is if her 🥹.” Deranged. And I saw an interview from the football guy about ts coming to his game and he said something like “she looked great. Everyone loved her.” That was the first thing he said about her attending his game, “she looked great.” Tiktok can do it’s damndest trying to sell me on this relationship, I’m not buying it.

Finally getting to the new tsv…this beginning slaps so hard. The ceremony of it all. I love how the use of The Drowning Song draws the mind back to early season one Faulkner and then his internal narration reminds you of just how much he’s changed. He was so young and idealistic at the start, and now he’s got all he ever wanted but he had to give his naïveté up and found it all on the same lies and compromises he detested then. It’s brilliant writing and also absolutely devastating.

| Don't talk about my wife like that-
Yeah so the kick is coming back which I REALLY did NOT want happening rn, especially when (even though it'll probably be all done and sorted by then) I'm trying to edit and touch up all OCs refs and other art related to my OCs I've already posted to here-
And then this bitch comes running back like an ex who doesn't realize it's over... But I guess I'm getting my fill of Kohga with a few and also another doodle/drawing of them here so I should be ok getting back with re-doing said other OCs who need re-designs and stuff... But then even when I HAVE re-drawn all of them; Lore, extras, plots and so on will then need to be handled and... Hhhhggg.... I hate it.
Also stiff neck been attacking me for a couple days now and it won't go away,,,,, I hate it
..... Another art dump coming soon I guess...
. Art © Me . DON’T RE-POST .

gonna take a minute to rant about just how much i love louis and his care for fans and how he's always trying to do things in the most affordable, convenient way possible. getting his tickets was one of the most smooth, seamless experiences i ever had. love how his first tour was a bit smaller and now that he's doing larger arenas, the pricing hasn't changed a bit. he's taken so much care and consideration into curating his brand and making it accessible and you can see the genuine thought process that goes into it because louis isn't just putting music and tours out and calling it a day. he's examining every little aspect of it and making sure that at the end of the day everything is as fair as possible. i know we can say it's the bare minimum, but to me at least it isn't. because it takes a lot of planning and organising to be able to pull this off, but it also takes a lot of investment time and money wise. and i honestly commend him for being one of the only artists in the industry who's not only to bring change but also who's putting a damn good fight and being a very good example of what an artist could be and how relaxing and beneficial an artist - fan relationship can be
