the issue with having a second human verse where connor was in love with a guy who turned out to be a serial killer (whom Connor had charged & convicted, because he figured it out before any of his colleagues actually employed in the homicide area saw it) -- the issue with having this verse now is that he keeps handing me little snippets of their life together before he knew David was a killer. of their life together before David started killing people. of their life together when things were good and he loved him and believed him when he said “we”, and “us”. (the problem is that after the conviction, and moving to detroit, connor has tried several different therapists but hasn’t found a single one yet who has offered him the fact he is allowed to Grieve for something that he isn’t sure ever really existed. but it felt real.)
#connor Would be - he - regular human verse connor has never had a therapist outside of the work-mandated ones#because he has not thought it would ..... he HAS thought it would benefit him before but he was denied access when he was young#and he pulled himself out of things. by himself. he worked So Hard to get through the things he got through but he got through them#but connor in human verse 2 would.... seek out a therapist. for months and months after the conviction he'd want to find...#'want' might be a little strong but he literally resigned from his work. he *loves* his work. it is a Low Point#and the people he would normally lean on are all either David's friends or know him through wanting to appeal to his mother#he can Identify He Would Benefit From Outside Support#so after moving to detroit he'd be looking. he just ... wouldn't ...#therapists are hard to mesh with and connor would be exacting. he knows what he wants out of therapy and there are a Lot of therapists#who would not offer it and that's fine. but they're not for him.#anyway#sometimes connor has dreams that are just memories and cries when he wakes up and it's very annoying because he Doesn't miss him#but it's very annoying and exhausting to be tired all the time (sleeping trouble - difficulty sleeping anywhere but at home)#and when he DOES get to sleep he sometimes has to dream about. missing him#sigh#anyway i just wrote about their first night together because connor handed it to me out of nowhere#thank you connor that's very sad actually#(human verse 2 connor is also. not really in control of the eating disorder. he is still trying to... he is still trying but)#(it's taken a backseat lately and he. has. it has been an easy way to try to get some sense of Control)#(he knows it is not healthy but *that* one in particular. the ED. is something he has only Ever *had* to do alone.)#(looked for help before and been Actively Degraded and ignored for it. he is still trying.)#eating disorder tw

So.. I've seen a lot of people that saying Katsuki died while thinking of İzuku. I've even seen some people saying that Katsuki did not care what AFO said about he can never be more than İzuku. But when I read those chapters it seemed like he was thinking about how he can never surpass him like he always wanted to, rather than thinking about İzuku himself. When he realized he will die anyways, he desperately accepted the fact that he can never reach İzuku's level. And he accepted his admiration for him, knowing that he will always be superior than him, by his actions (thinking of how he made his movements and attacks etc.). So it felt like he STİLL puts his desire of 'becoming the best' above everything, it seemed like he died with that thoughts. I couldn't see any confirmation of him realizing some feelings for him.
Soo I would really like to know your oppinion about this. Do you have any counter evidence for this? I really wanna hear your thoughts ASAP. <3
Tumblr media
Hello everyone! In this meta, I'll explain why the feelings Katsuki realises are romantic in chapter 362 and how bakudeku's relationship arc is intertwined with Katsuki's character development and provide anon evidence that supports this.
Anon: I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here, that you genuinely need answers... so yes! I have a lot of points to make which I will now present to you! I think the problem you're struggling with is not identifying that Katsuki's character development has always been tied to his relationship with (and feelings for) Izuku.
My writer friend introduced me to literary concepts like internal and external relationship arcs that develop alongside a character's growth. Internal arcs involve emotions and relationships between the characters, while external arcs are influences on their relationship by outside forces, pushing them together or pulling them apart.
While character development arcs are about personal conflicts, both internal and external. In BNHA, these conflicts shape a character's quirk progress, understanding of heroism, motivations for performing well, and provide external obstacles which hinder them.
Tumblr media
Katsuki's character arc is intrinsically tied to his relationship with Izuku. Overcoming his internal conflict of not recognizing "save to win" and addressing the source of this conflict, his lifelong issues with Izuku, were essential in his path to become a top hero. DvK2 served as both an outlet for Katsuki's negative emotions, and as an event that brought bkdk's relationship closer together by having Katsuki join in on their OFA secret. Their conversation with All Might also propels Katsuki's character development in the months after it.
So, anyway, as your ask suggests, Katsuki's "character arc" had always been about becoming the #1 top hero. Not being left in Izuku's, or ANYONE'S dust. Katsuki learning the qualities he was lacking to get to that point. Etc Etc.
However! As he thinks about Izuku's burdens, draws in closer to him, and they spend more time together, we see his character change into a more giving, caring person and he gradually overcomes his personal conflicts, with Izuku acting as his heart's north star.
An example of his change comes in chapter 358. Katsuki is thinking of his teacher and friends doing their part and that he now had to do his. Then he thinks of Izuku saving him from the slime villain and says something to sAFO that proves he is NOT the same character he was at the start of the manga: "Big disparities? Lack of understanding? Dread? I've long since been acquainted with all of this." I feel he is talking about his relationship with Izuku and his fear based emotions he has had (and still has) with him.
Tumblr media
It was made clear that Katsuki's need to "stay ahead" is another one of his internal conflicts that's DIRECTLY TIED to his relationship with Izuku in chapter 275, when we see his thoughts about how he can barely keep up with Izuku, and that he won't be left behind.
Tumblr media
He says he won't lose and he won't "let himself stay losing." Note that this isn't even about winning anymore. It's about not falling behind Izuku. The reason we know his desires to stay ahead were tied to his feelings for Izuku is because of the scene coupled together with it: his flash back of Izuku trailing behind him when they were kids.
The impression this left on me was that Katsuki had ALREADY swallowed his pride and selfish reasons to be his best self because his feelings towards Izuku had once again changed his priorities as a hero. In chapter 275, we see his ambitions had shifted from being ahead, to just being able to keep up enough to stay by Izuku's side. (and I'll talk more about this later.)
By linking their childhood memory to his feelings of "being left behind," Hori was telling us the only reason Katsuki ever wanted to stay ahead of Izuku to begin with, was so he would never have to see the day Izuku left him behind, leaving Katsuki ALONE. I don't know about you, but this seems like the setup of a romantic plot to me.
My feeling with this is that Katsuki has always loved Izuku and needed him in his life. But he buried those feelings deep inside himself and they hit him like a damn TRUCK after he realised how bad he had messed everything up that day in the river and everything he'd done to Izuku after it. That's why the volume 29 cover is what it is for the Katsuki Rising content. The image is full of love and acceptance, but also... regret.
Tumblr media
To someone who doesn't understand that Katsuki's internal relationship with Izuku is interwoven into his character arc, I understand his feelings presented at his death may seem self-centred and platonic to you. But it just isn't true. Katsuki's character development and relationship development with Izuku are ABSOLUTELY linked together and always have been.
//anger//
At first Katsuki is angry at Izuku because of his misunderstandings and Izuku always having been the one person who didn't make him feel like he's the best. To Katsuki, who grew up in a quirk worshipping society, being a hero only meant possessing a strong quirk and the ability to defeat anyone and win. However, from an early age he recognised that Izuku had qualities that he didn't fully understand but knew he lacked. Izuku tries to save him, despite Katsuki being physically stronger than Izuku, and this just causes him to double down on his belief of winning at all costs. (Ironic that the event which made Katsuki feel hate towards Izuku, ultimately caused Izuku to love him even more.)
And as soon as he gets into U.A, his entire world view of himself is shattered as he suffers humiliating defeat after humiliating defeat; Losing his first proper fight against Izuku, not getting the fair battle with Todoroki he wanted so he could have a true victory against Izuku (because to Katsuki, beating the same Todoroki that beat Izuku equates to beating Izuku), being kidnapped, feeling responsible for ending AM's career, failing his provisional license exam... And as Katsuki watches Izuku get stronger and stronger, and further away from him, it makes him hate everything even more until the day he's had enough and grabs Izuku and lets it all explode out of him.
Tumblr media
//guilt//
Then after DvK2, he realises he's deeply misjudged Izuku and he starts to feel guilty for everything he has ever done to him, and for what? Because he couldn't see his own weaknesses. He is told by All Might to recognise Izuku's strengths. So that's what he does and what does he say when he finally learns the importance of saving people, taken straight from the heart of the person closest to him who exemplifies this quality? "Just keep your eyes on me, shitty Deku." But his guilt towards Izuku sets off his atonement arc, and his rising concern for Izuku's cursed fate brings them together.
After witnessing Izuku hurt himself multiple times throughout their first year of high school and long before by his own hands, Katsuki's guilt reaches its peak when they both confront Shigaraki. As he's watching how badly Izuku will hurt himself to win, he recalls Izuku's words about being the 'Deku who always tries his best,' and Katsuki realises that Izuku had been overcompensating for being quirkless his whole life.
Tumblr media
He understands that this may have been largely his fault and truly gets the impact of the horrible name he gave Izuku when they were kids. 'Deku' taken from 'deku no bou,' which is a doll without arms and legs and carries the meaning of "a useless person."
Tumblr media
He remembers his conversation with All Might, who told him "he would be able to talk about it with Izuku one day" and when he sees his history with Izuku flash before his eyes, he knew that one day was never gonna come unless he did something! So he did something. He had a quirk awakening and saved Izuku's life at a cost to himself, fully embracing what it means to be a true hero. But not just any hero, Izuku's hero.
Tumblr media
//acceptance//
Then his character reaches a point of understanding and acceptance of his feelings. He can no longer put up resistance to his relationship with Izuku anymore, and Izuku's absence causes Katsuki to realise he needs Izuku in his life, to be closer, and by his side. He accepts Izuku for all of his weaknesses and embraces him. He's also accepted how important it is to rely on others, and also be there for them in turn and teaches these things again, back to Izuku, quietly asking Izuku to lean on him if he needs help. He wants to be there for him.
Tumblr media
So after his character arcs of hate, guilt, acceptance, all of which are tied to his feelings for Izuku, what naturally comes last for them?
//love//
Love, and Katsuki's acceptance of what is in his heart at his very end, in chapter 362. Because those are his feelings for Izuku now. A deep, powerful love that fills his heart completely.
And what I realised after talking about this with my friend, was that people who don't think bkdk will be romantic will only see what they want to see. That depending on their depth of understanding of their relationship, people are going to see Katsuki's actions and words as either part of his character arc to be #1, or as one massive leap in his relationship arc/feelings towards Izuku. Hori probably wrote it to be vague in this way, because the big bkdk reveal is not until the climax. He's a smart writer like this. Once Hori writes the context of these last moments for Katsuki being as intimate as they come, people will be like OH! oh.
In fact, anon, his desire to be good enough to keep up with Izuku is not lying in selfish thoughts/reasonings at all. It's quite the opposite. Katsuki wants to do his best so that he can stay by Izuku's side to help him. His ambitions to be the best hero might be a veil Hori placed here, but it's a very thin one, and we are able to read between the lines based on Katsuki's previous character development. He clearly wants to be stronger FOR Izuku's sake. His essence contains his love and acceptance for Izuku, need to stay by his side and help shoulder his responsibilities. We've long known that Katsuki doesn't want to leave Izuku alone to his burdensome fate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What started off as a "positive change" relationship turned into a positive steadfast relationship arc. This was used specifically during Katsuki's fight against sAFO. sAFO told Katsuki that Izuku was the reason he was going to die, and what does Katsuki do? He remains loyal to him, and his resolve to love Izuku strengthens further.
The only thing that truly bothered Katsuki of all the things that AFO said to him was that he would never be good enough to stay by Izuku’s side. But we know exactly why that bothers him! Because of his internal arc and need to be by Izuku’s side for reasons that seem to be beyond platonic at this stage. He's been treating Izuku like an equal, a best friend... and a supportive spouse.
Because Katsuki hadn’t actually left Izuku’s side since their embrace in 322. He gravitates to him, to ease his anxieties and let him know he’s there for him multiple times, and Izuku reciprocates this by also walking over to talk to him a few times as well like after his Mei visit. Because by demanding closeness with Izuku in the discarding of his "Deku" name and embracing him, Katsuki had become Izuku's comfort person - someone to share his inner worries with. Izuku needs and trusts Katsuki, as well.
Tumblr media
And Katsuki died with Izuku in his thoughts, brought about by things going on in his mind that we don't get to see, but can EASILY guess at: Izuku telling Katsuki he’s himself "because he never gives up until he wins" during their team-up against All Might.
Tumblr media
Katsuki's answer to his flash back of this moment with Izuku was: “I gotta win, right Izuku?” and Hori showing him saying this gave us A LOT of information.
We are being told that this memory had always stuck with Katsuki and for him it was an important interaction with Izuku and that he understands he is being loved for this trait by Izuku. And by Katsuki getting back up despite his many devastating injuries and impending death that he knew was coming, he is accepting that love and wanting to receive even more of it by acting in the way Izuku most loves about him. Izuku's love is what comforted him during all of the physical and emotional trauma sAFO put him through.
Tumblr media
Katsuki's character arc peaks at becoming a true hero, but it is stated by Hori in a way for people to know it is deeply tied into his feelings for Izuku. Katsuki got back up and told Best Jeanist to look after everyone, with the same amount of care Izuku has for others, and right after, Hori wrote "butsu butsu" (mutter mutter) next to Katsuki here, mimicking a trait of Izuku's he has always complained about. He displays Izuku's self sacrifice and even thinks of Izuku's pain. These things show the extent of which Katsuki's heart accepted and took all of Izuku into himself - thinking about Izuku grounded and comforted Katsuki in his final minutes. (+the All Might nerding at the end... yeah... their hearts are the same alright, thanks chapter 348. thanks Hori.)
And then finally Katsuki reaches out to Izuku and thinks “Hey Izuku, can I still catch up to you?” again a HUGE metaphor written for Bkdk's internal relationship arc. This can and should be read as “Hey Izuku, will my feelings ever reach you some day?” because Katsuki has always had a hard time communicating how he really feels and it’s only by facing certain death that he realised a lot of things about himself and Izuku, like the form his feelings of love take shape in.
Tumblr media
pain pain pain pain pain reading this in japanese is painful
And the fact Katsuki is reaching out to Izuku with his hand implies that sometime before he died, he probably thought of Izuku coming to his rescue and trying to help him up like he's always done. The motivating message for Katsuki to fight harder to come back to life that was made on the back of volume 37 by Edgeshot once he was inside Katsuki’s heart and suddenly knew it was filled with his love for Izuku supports this. “Don’t give up, Dynamight!! (the one) you’ve been waiting for, He will… Deku will surely come!!” This quote and Katsuki's delirium tells us that his last wish was just to see Izuku's face once again.
I think that’s why he cried… because Katsuki knew Izuku wasn’t coming, he wouldn't make it in time, and Katsuki would die and then be used to hurt Izuku, just like sAFO said he would.
So in his delirium right before death, he is thinking of Izuku with a calm face and reaches out to take Izuku’s hand. And there is just NO WAY to see any of this as platonic. This is as romantic as it gets!
Tumblr media
Woah this got LONG. Are you still with me anon? *sweats* If you are, I hope this could help you! And anyone else who read this <3 Also anon, you should check out my pinned post as it delves into their emotional feelings a bit as well.
----------------------------------------------!
BTW, read this chart I added below - it's freaking EYE OPENING thinking about how BkDK have hit ALL of these romantic beats so far. We are now up to Climax: Internal Relationship Arc. ❤️
I expect that to come at around chapter 398-400ish, when Katsuki appears from inside OFA (Because we theorise that AFO will set Izuku off one last time with what he did to Katsuki. Theories are quite often wrong, but I don't want to believe that those horrifying chapters of Katsuki being toyed with and humiliated until he died had no purpose other than to traumatise us Katsuki stans. Surely we were seeing it in place of Izuku, channelling how it would make him feel. After all, Izuku is the biggest Katsuki stan of all - he's gonna see it.)

What do you think of people hating on LXC because he said wwx was lwj's only mistake? (Don't want to start flames but I want someone to support lxc's point of view in this because he's also valid)
I’m trying really hard to find a way to answer this without awaking the disk horse, let’s see if I can manage it.
Also anon I took forever to answer you and then proceeded to write way, way too much, so I’m doubly sorry!
I’m going to focus on the novel because I feel like LXC’s arc is much more nuanced (and therefore easier to misunderstand) in the novel.
From a meta standpoint, LXC plays a really interesting role a few times, which I’m sure has an actual name for people who study literature but I can’t think of it right now so I’ll call mentor-antagonist. He’s a mentor because he consistently guides WWX towards understanding LWJ - which, surprise surprise, it’s an important thing in a romance. But he’s an antagonist because he just as consistently puts himself in the role of LWJ’s protector. From the first time we meet him, all the way to Guanyin, LXC keeps saying with increasing clarity and frustration “This is how much my brother loves you - do you love him back just as much?” He informs WWX of what LWJ won’t say, but he puts a price to LWJ’s affection where LWJ actually puts none. LWJ is trying to say “I love you no matter what, even if you never love me back” but LXC keeps translating it to WWX as “LWJ’s love is entirely selfless, and what are you doing to deserve it?”
Even the very first time we meet him - who is LXC pointing out LWJ is in a good mood for? Maybe in-universe it’s just a passing comment, but as a reader, it’s hard not to think in hindsight that maybe introducing the guy who gatekeeps LWJ’s heart by having him say “You make LWJ unusually happy, and you’re literally screaming and crying to get away from him” miiiiiiight have future implications.
WWX is constantly shocked that LWJ can stand him, let alone love him, and LXC is almost an externalization of that. I mean, that’s an oversimplification, he has his own agenda and everything, but when LXC says “You don’t deserve my brother” and WWX answers back “I don’t care, I want him and I’ve always wanted him even when I deserved it even less than I do now” that feels like an incredible character moment because that is the thing WWX struggles with.
And I feel like that’s why people get so, so mad about this. WWX saying to JZX “You don’t deserve my sister” in every adaptation? lol yeah he’s right. But we’re meant to identify with WWX, and LXC is just (metaphorically) shouting every single one of WWX’s insecurities at him, and that’s very hurtful, even though we know LXC loves LWJ more than anything. So I feel that people take issue with this not because of LXC’s actual words, but because they feel the urge to protect WWX, which only shows what a great writer MXTX is.
As for why LXC would say this... well, why wouldn’t he? I mean, we Know how WWX feels and we also know the reasons behind his actions, but from an outsider’s perspective, all WWX has ever done in the novel (which is very different from the drama, and in the drama LXC is much warmer towards WWX as a consequence of that) is hurt LWJ over and over and over and over. If LWJ were my brother and I knew his love was as intense as it is, I’m not sure that I also wouldn’t be upset that someone seems to take advantage of it when it’s convenient and walk away when it’s not. LXC doesn’t have the benefit of seeing the ways in which WWX makes LWJ’s life better, but he’s always the one picking up the pieces after LWJ ends up heartbroken for the 4378492th time, so of course his idea of WWX skews towards the negative. And I mean... whenever he tells WWX to Do Better WWX misunderstands everything and Does Worse. Of course LXC is frustrated. It’s no one’s fault, it’s just that LXC doesn’t have all the info, nor does WWX. That’s kind of the theme of the novel.
Anyway, the tl;dr is that I don’t think people who hate on LXC for that moment can be convinced not to by being shown LXC’s POV, because the issue is, imho, about overidentifying with WWX and being understandably hurt when LXC says something hurtful. But I totally get that some people read romance with the purpose of projecting onto the main character, so I’m not about to say identification is bad or anything. I think (a lot of) these people engage with the novel in a way fundamentally different from the way I do,* so I’m not sure there’s much profit in trying to convert one another to The One Correct Interpretation.
* I don’t want to overgeneralize, though. It’s entirely possible to dislike LXC in general or in this moment for reasons other than this, this is just what seems most common in my experience, but it might not even be the most common attitude! But I can’t speak of what I have no experience with, so I’m limiting the scope to the circles of fandom I’m in.

What about Lor'themar? He still talks to her and isn't incompetent. They're practically best friends by Horde standards.
Ehhhhh sort of. I'll pull the relevant Lor'themar quotes:
Sylvanas could command from the rear, but that’s what Lor’themar is for. She’s far too useful in the front lines to seclude herself, and she…trusts…Lor’themar. Mostly. Enough. He can handle command.
“Without you to lead? Who did you leave in command, Lor'themar?” “Who is a competent, if not inspired, general.”
Proudmoore snorts. “Would she listen to Lor’themar if he told her to fall back?” Under her eyes, the Stormwind infantry moves forward and the orcs charge without waiting for orders. To the rear of the Horde a figure just identifiable as Lor’themar begins gesticulating angrily. Geya’rah listens to Sylvanas because she values her own life. Lor’themar doesn’t inspire that sort of fear, and Geya’rah, like so many orcs, suffers from an excess of honor and a remarkable lack of sense. Grudgingly, Sylvanas says, “She would not.”
Will Baine and Lor’themar care enough about the Forsaken to support their position? She can’t say.
So what can we take from this?
Sylvanas is comfortable leaving Lor'themar in command of the Horde army, even though there's no real sin'dorei presence and so he's technically outside his bailiwick. She has faith (borne out in Interlude 1) that he won't get too creative or reckless and will do the best he can, but she also doesn't believe he can keep Geya'rah in line.
Overall: Pretty good confidence in Lor'themar as a military leader.
Unfortunately: Approximately zero confidence in Lor'themar's willingness to go out of his way to help the Forsaken.
In other words, Sylvanas trusts Lor'themar to help her when it's in his own best interest. She does NOT trust him to do anything even moderately inconvenient that would benefit her, which is fair because he wouldn't.
Trust is easy when you're trusting someone to do something that benefits them. It's much, much harder when you're hoping they'll put themselves at risk to help you.

I saw this post and I wanted to speak about the topics it touches upon and provide some advice for anyone questioning any sort of LGBTQ+ identity.
You are not your identity because your experiences are that identity, you are your identity because that identity describes your experiences.
There is this idea that there is some true identity in you deep down, one right box you can neatly shove yourself into. That is not the case in the slightest.
Yes, some people find a label that fits them perfectly. It is like suddenly the whole world makes sense now that they know that is what they are. And it is a beautiful and wonderful thing when that happens.
But being queer is still beautiful and wonderful even when that does not happen. Being queer is not and has never been about having to adbide by boxes, and I would suggest looking into queer history via digital archives if you have not already.
It is alright to use whatever label serves you the best. It is alright to use different labels in different circumstances. It is alright to use labels that you feel are right for you and helpful even if you do not fit into the boxes people except of that label. It is alright not to use labels even if you seemingly fit it perfectly for whatever reason you do not wish to use it.
The FTM subreddit is a good example of this. It's description is, 'Support-based discussion focused on trans men, trans mascs, and other people who are assigned female at birth who are trans.' While the label FTM has a technically strict defintion, many people who do not meet that defintion benefit from the label. Even those who do not identify with it personally to describe their experiences are able to find use in it to find community of people with similar experiences. And I tell many stories about this.
I do hesitate to bring up the following anecdote due to the TERF rhetoric rather prominent in the community at the moment. So I will preface this by requesting people understand that the rather intense discourse surrounding 'men in lesbian spaces' is TERF shit and does not stop being TERF shit when you make it gender affirming. I am not here to debate TERF shit. If what you have to add the conversation even remotely resembles 'men in lesbian spaces bad' I request you make a seperate post, link this one as I did above, and tag me. However, I reserve right to block you and ask you to edit the post so it is screenshots without my username present if I want to. Thank you.
I know of a lesbian with an extremely muscular, bearded, 6' tall AMAB partner. This person is not cis, but does use he and masculine terms like man along side neutral terms and it/blood pronouns. He would not fit the orientations of many lesbians.
When he and my friend got together, he was going by he/she/blood pronouns. Which would make him fit more lesbian's orientations, I suppose, but when he changed his pronouns wbsolutely nothing changed at all really. My friend still loves him like a butch and is still a lesbian. Her experiences are lesbian experiences because that is what she feels fits it best.
(And, for the record, her partner is not suddenly a butch just because my lesbian friend loves him like one. She understands that and just because she feels the best description for her feelings is 'loving him like a butch' doesn't mean she actually views him as one.)
A lot of people end up really struggling with their identities and exploring who they are because the moment they discover anything at all outside of the box of the label that fits best they are kicked out of it.
Especially due to the prominence of TERF rhetoric in the LGBTQ+ community, it is especially bad for lesbians. There is a reason there is such an oversaturation of 'men in lesbian spaces' but not 'women in gay male spaces' and that's because of gender essentialism and 'men bad evil woman victim helpless'.
Like I saw a video of a lesbian mention that maybe they had experienced an attraction to a man one singular time and were questioning. The comment section was flooded with people harassing them for calling themselves a lesbian and invading lesbian spaces when they may or may not have had just experienced an attraction to a man.
You know. As though they have not been in lesbian spaces for a long time and found community in people with shared experiences. All of that is suddenly them being lesbophobic for daring to invade lesbian spaces as someone who literally is a lesbian.
Like that really fucking sucks to be turned on like that for daring to even begin to question your orientation.
If you are a lesbian who is worried that maybe they experience attraction to men or literally anyone worried that they are wrong about their identity, I really hope you are able to stop worried about what the 'true correct 100% perfect box that your identity totally will fit into' is and instead focus on 'does this label describe me? how does it help me?'
If you are someone who would never be with a man ever but occasionally experiences attraction, that experience remains the same whether you believe that bisexual or lesbian or queer or whatever fits it. Hell, if you feel like straight fits best I don't get it but I am happy for you doing what's best for you.
If you are someone who does not care about gender or what pronouns you are called, that experience does not change if you identify as cis or trans or nonbinary or agender.
Just.
Relax.
And be nice to each other.

Eden of the East (I)
Tumblr media
word count: 464 words 02.02.23
I think this show has done well in exploring the meaning of duty to the community, and I expect it will continue to do so. Under the mantra of noblesse oblige, the cast's choices open a discussion on what "serving" the people looks like by defining (sometimes morally ambiguous) priorities.
Having so far only been properly introduced to three of the twelve Seleção within the first five episodes of the show (although at this point in time I have watched up to episode 7), we see that they have made use of their alloted amount of money in a manner they viewed as beneficial and responsible.
The rules of the game are simple, though not entirely reliable— identify what it is in the nation that needs fixing, and give back to the community so that any problems are solved. In other words, "do good."
But what does this mean? Mr. Outside expects results, but the issues he might prioritize are not the same ones the twelve Seleção might. Similarly, there might not be an overlap of what they deem responsible and beneficial at all.
This could very well be beneficial. I can merely speculate, but a variety of people bring forth a broader perspective. To really tackle Japan's problems to the largest possible extent, the burden of duty must be allocated to trustworthy individuals. Trustworthy in the sense that they've been giving the incentive of continuing to live, that is. By being monitored and having their lives undergo constant threat, the logical conclusion is that these twelve saviors would act for the best interest of the people, if only for their own sake.
But this goes back to the question— if it is ultimately the Supporter's judgement that determines who lives and who dies, how can the degree of effectiveness be gauged? We're unaware of whether legitimate metrics are in place, or if the decision really does lie in the Supporter's hands completely. For a start, for what reasons is each member selected?
We know number 4, Yusei Kondo, likely did nothing for the betterment of society. As an officer that accepts bribes, he in fact acted against the common interest.
These days, a single cop alone can't do anything to serve justice.
He represents resignment. He sees a flawed system, and in virtue of being unable to salvage it, he instead becomes part of the cause.
Number 5, Dr. Hiura, had a part in bribing politicians to pass legislation that would ultimately benefit a fair amount of people in need of accesible healthcare. And yet, despite having given so much to his community, he was eliminated from the game. It makes one wonder to what standard these twelve are being held to, and if it is possible to satisfy the Supporter at all.

The Love of Learning with Aimee Cabo - Education as a Path to Overcoming Adversity
Teachers look for this characteristic among their students, parents instill it in their children, and therapists support it among clients. A love of learning can help people overcome setbacks more readily.
It Helps You to Learn New Skills
Aimee Cabo emphasizes that learning new skills helps us overcome obstacles that appear in life. Although hardships may not be something we seek out, they're part of life's experience and provide invaluable lessons - about adapting to a new job, taking on more challenging classes, or managing chronic illnesses more effectively. There is always something worthwhile that can be gained from experiencing hardship.
As you learn, your brain forms neural pathways more rapidly. That is why it is vitally important to embrace new learning experiences even if your brain may not yet be ready.
Love of learning is a character trait found across society, found among individuals from all backgrounds. People who exhibit this strength find learning enjoyable and motivational regardless of the subject, whether history lessons, fashion shows, bike mechanic classes, or reading theology books. Possessing this character trait can make school less stressful for children while inspiring them to explore their interests and pursue them further.
It Encourages You to Think Outside of the Box
People with this character strength enjoy learning and are intrinsically motivated to acquire new skills or knowledge. They relish mastering topics rather than attending school classes; they feel good about themselves when something new is caught!
Curiosity and love of learning are interlinked strengths in the VIA Classification, yet they can still be distinguished. A person who values education will seek knowledge on all topics; conversely, a curious individual might prefer more niche subjects.
Aimee Cabo highlights that one effective strategy to foster children's enthusiasm for learning is encouraging them to explore their interests. Research shows that children benefit greatly when given control over which subjects and topics they want to study; this allows them to acquire relevant new skills that resonate with them, ultimately helping them become more creative thinkers. It's also crucial that children be encouraged to challenge the status quo; Thomas Edison was known for sitting in his chair holding steel balls in each hand and then when in a hypnagogia state, clanging them together before thinking up ways he could improve them further.
It Helps You to Enjoy Your Work
Assuring your children develop an enthusiasm for learning is one of the keystones to their academic, personal, and professional success - not to mention overall well-being and happiness. Children who show enthusiasm for education tend to adapt well in today's dynamic environment by showing inventive problem-solving abilities and an insatiable curiosity.
According to Aimee Cabo, attracting children to learning requires making it enjoyable and captivating, which you can accomplish by providing various open-ended learning activities and encouraging children to ask questions such as "Why," "How," and "What would happen if..." Involve them in active critical thinking so they can identify problems more effectively and solve them more quickly.
Create resonant learning by tailoring it to their interests, experiences, and goals. Use humor or an engaging story to engage children with a subject; brain breaks (short activities that break up monotonous lessons or assignments).
An appetite for learning is something educators, parents, and therapists all strive to foster in their clients, and employers seek to encourage in their employees. A passion for education can be an incredible motivator in overcoming hardship and realizing one's dreams.
It Helps You to Be More Brave
Love of learning is one of the hallmark character strengths within the virtue category "Wisdom." Strengths within this category that foster learning include creativity, curiosity, judgment, and perspective - all characteristics essential for effective use of wisdom.
Individuals passionate about learning don't fear change and are always ready to explore new opportunities, even if that means learning something unfamiliar. Furthermore, they don't fear showing their vulnerability by admitting when they don't know something. This courage can be found anywhere from asking for assistance when needed to opening up about feelings with others.
As per Aimee Cabo, parents can promote a love of learning in their children by making education a top priority (and modeling this behavior for them), encouraging subjects that interest them to explore, and providing educational resources. Parents can also use open-ended questions to explore children's interests further and spark deeper conversations; asking, "Why do you like that car?" or "How does it work?" can open their thought processes and foster higher critical thinking skills.
It Helps You to Be More Open to Change
Learning something complex - such as learning a foreign language or how to ride a bicycle - usually takes effort and dedication. At the same time, small things, like teaching words or facts on the spot, can often happen almost effortlessly. Studying is associated with effort and focus; in contrast, learning encourages discovery.
People who love learning tend to be more adaptable and open to change in their professional and personal lives, which can be especially helpful when facing hardship or obstacles you haven't seen coming. Learning can also open your mind to possibilities or solutions you hadn't considered previously.
Fun is also essential in learning experiences. This may mean using humor or telling a tale to add spark and make tasks less monotonous or more complex ones more bearable. Another strategy may involve "brain breaks," short activities designed to refresh students and return them feeling rejuvenated to their tasks.
Teaching your child to appreciate learning is essential to long-term success and must begin by nurturing their natural curiosity. One practical approach to this is encouraging them to explore their interests and passions while acting as an example for them and being an enthusiastic champion for education!
It Helps You to Be More Confident
Learning new skills can help increase your self-confidence, especially if they are things that have previously challenged or intimidated you. Conquering such obstacles and showing that you possess what it takes can be both exhilarating and fulfilling.
People with the character strength and love of learning are motivated to gain knowledge in subjects they find interesting or relevant, such as history, fashion, or bike mechanics, that require extensive studying or practice. This trait does not equate with school love or an endless thirst for knowledge. Instead, people possessing this character strength are intrinsically driven to gain new information while not seeking external rewards like grades.
It Helps You to Be More Open to New Opportunities
An enthusiastic desire to learn is an inherent motivation that drives individuals to expand their existing knowledge or gain new ones, as suggested by Aimee Cabo. An interest in education also opens them up to changes in the job environment - for instance, technological advances may impact many industries significantly and necessitate new skills and knowledge to advance.
People with this character strength enjoy learning, even if it requires hard work. Their internal motivation fuels them to keep pace with an ever-evolving business landscape to advance in their careers.
Inspiration of children to love learning can be challenging. Still, teachers can facilitate this effort by providing their students with the tools they need (books, magazines, and online resources) to explore individual interests and find stimulating yet enjoyable approaches to studying their subject matters.
Parents can inspire curiosity among children by asking questions that allow them to identify areas of interest and then provide resources related to those areas. Parents can use humor or stories in lessons for additional engagement.

It's history: reality and fiction are a mess in pretty much every depiction outside of history focused sources. Not everyone is a trained historian and not every place can cover every detail.
youtube
youtube comments
You absolutely need world alliances if you wish to conquer the world. Cleopatra committed suicide after Mark Antony (one of the leaders of the belligerent factions during the Last War of the Roman Republic and her lover) was killed in battle (Antony also had married Octavian's sister but continued his affair with Cleopatra, which strained tensions in the Triumvirate and got Cleopatra dragged down when Antony was). Largely, Cleopatra wasn't ambitious enough or present enough in Rome to match Octavian's efforts, and didn't identify which alliances would benefit her most. Allies are largely what got her so far in the first place. Shunning world alliances to try to command everyone's appliances would be a disastrous mistake.
Hannibal is one of antiquity's foremost military commanders. He lost in the end not because of any tactical error involving war elephants, but because the loss of support for the war back in Carthage and the attritive, guerrilla tactics the Romans used against him combined to gradually wear down his army until it was incapable of securing a major victory. If anything, Hannibal should be a lesson that you can't win a war without the support of your people back home to pay for and supply your armies in the field. In this case, Brain is correct that he can and should use the television to be admired if he wants to be successful, but is incorrect in discarding the foremost weapons of the time in favor of exclusively having popular support and political power (which contrasts with his conclusion from Cleopatra: that alliances and political maneuvering are unimportant to world conquest.) He's also wrong, in the facts anyway, since Hannibal more than made it past the Roman Sentinels, marching his army to attack from an unexpected direction and securing quick victories early on. It was only once he lost support for the war that things really went south.
The battle Attila fought against the "heroic Franks" could have been a much more decisive victory for the Roman-Visigoth alliance if the Roman-Visigoth alliance had seized upon the opportunity their battlefield victory provided. Attila was in an alliance with the Roman Empire, but a falling-out between the Hunnish Empire and the Roman Empire occurred when the Emperor's daughter sent her engagement ring to Attila (in order to escape forced marriage) and the Emperor responded by exiling her. Both sides then intervened on different sides of a Frankish civil war. At the deciding battle, the Romans arrived and attacked the Huns from the flank while the latter were attacking a city. The Romans routed the Huns but failed to pursue, and Attila went on to regroup and attack Italy (and was eventually repulsed due to a combination of disease and lack of supplies in Italy to resupply his army due to crop disease), and eventually died either due to political assassination or internal bleeding as a result of heavy drinking. Subliminal messages wouldn't have helped Attila, and pillaging like a criminal certainly had little to do with his demise. Watch your back and watch your health. He wasn't really a stereotypical barbarian, anyway.
Early on, Caligula was largely a progressive ruler of Rome, conducting many civil works projects and other civil improvements. He also had a habit of spending money to spite his political enemies, and generally increased the power of the Emperor. He wasn't particularly more corrupt than other feudal leaders in the beginning, but he did earn the enmity of the Senate for re-exerting Imperial power (there had been no emperor for a period of time before him). As his feud with the senate grew, his sanity deteriorated and his sense of self importance ballooned, ultimately involving himself in several political scandals and getting assassinated. Caligula is a lesson in how not to play politics and not to have an inflated sense of one's own importance (something Brain is critically ignoring). Maybe hypnotizing the senate and entire roman populace to forget the famine and his scandals would have helped ;].
Napoleon was defeated in Russia because his army not properly equipped to deal with the conditions. He was then exiled, then returned from exile, and they was defeated and sent back into exile at Waterloo. Napoleon was prompted to march to Waterloo to combat the rest of the world that was invading France in response to his return to power. Napoleon's fall did not come about as much through conquering with depravity as failure to have political allies to turn to to help him out. Napoleon made many strategic errors of the course of his career, though he did not choose to attack Britain; Britain was the aggressor in all the wars he fought against him (The wars in which France gained the enmity of the rest of the world occurred before he came to power, and they feared (correctly) that he would restore French power). He was too ambitious and politically obvious and not discrete enough. Undermining gravity would certainly not have helped, more political tact probably would have. From both Napoleon and Hannibal, one should also learn to be wary of guerrilla fighters, since Napoleon and Hannibal both suffered a large part of their eventual defeats because of enemy guerrilla tactics in Spain and Italy, respectively.
Genghis Khan to Charlemagne and Alexander down to Tamerlane were successful conquerors and leaders, but their empires fell because an unclear line of succession left a power struggle. Alexander's empire dissolved immediately (split between his generals), Ghengis's was split between his son's generals, there was a power struggle between Charlemagne's grandsons after his son (who had succeeded him) died, and Tamerlane's other descendants all tried to seize power from his named successor. Essentially, if you want your empire to last, power cannot be entirely consolidated in you (which seems to be the opposite of what Brain is trying to do).
Perhaps it's a hidden message of 'you can study history, but you can easily learn the wrong thing from it'.

wanted to agree with your good doctor post
i hate this trend of being seen as a bad person if you enjoy media that has anything problematic in it..it takes away focus from actual issues to play a game of oh im a more moral person than you
agree yeah of course the transphobia shit was weird but if people assume all austistic people are like this one tv character then that's their fault.. and we barely get any representation and even less as main characters so it's not fair to tell people that one stupid moment means they can't like a show
i saw people saying shauns meltdown was unrealistic and that's why they were memeing it but no it's not unrealistic and allistic people were using it to bully autistics.. i saw it referenced on random autistic people's posts for a while after
my big gripe with the show however is that they support and, i think, work with autism speaks which sucks obviously
Before I respond to this ask, I want to make it clear that I know the issues I’m going to discuss are potentially sensitive — you’re free to criticize me but do it in a constructive manner and don’t be an ass over it lol.
Yeah, I looked into the Autism Speaks stuff and while I couldn’t find anything directly tying Autism Speaks to The Good Doctor specifically, Freddie Highmore is tied to them (as in he made a video for them or something like that). For now I’m giving him benefit of the doubt with a massive serving of caution, since as I mentioned it feels more like he did a lot of personal research consulted with actual autistic people and not with people who claim to know about autism. Like to be completely honest, The Good Doctor does not feel like it was written with input from Autism Speaks, at least to me.
(Sent this to my drafts so I could formulate a more accurate/proper opinion on the trans thing. Basically started writing a response, paused, watched She [season 1 episode 14], and now I'm back to finish my response to this ask)
With the transphobia thing, from what I know, by the end of the episode Shaun was being respectful of the patient’s preferred pronouns and he was the one to suggest removing both testicles once it was found that one had cancer and should be removed. That alone had me like “He’s just confused by this, he’s not trying to be a dick” which was actually my mentality at one point, which I think is why saying Shaun is transphobic pisses me off so much honestly. “Transness was a confusing concept to him, therefore he was transphobic” is a gross take honestly. He grew up in an abusive home, then was homeless, then probably never got exposed to the concept of being trans. Why would he not be confused? I know I was as a kid; it doesn’t help that I was raised by Mormon conservative grandparents. Now I identify as non-binary.
I’m not saying you can’t criticize Shaun saying “you’re a boy not a girl” but I also think it’s disingenuous to say he was actively being transphobic or disrespectful because he wasn’t; he was simply confused because it was a new concept to him and was stubborn about it, and that’s not an uncommon thing in my experience. Outside of that, he was trying to learn. He didn't hesitate to ask questions (even asking if he was being inflammatory because he was told he was by one of his colleagues when Quinn got her CT scan earlier), and he even took one of Quinn's analogies to heart at the end (comparing her transition and the freedom that came with it to floating in a pool).
Piggybacking off of that, Shaun is an incredibly empathetic person. I didn't actually realize it until I was scrolling through TikTok, but there are multiple types of empathy (I think this is what is meant when people say "autistic people struggle with empathy"; you might not struggle with one kind of empathy but you might with other types of empathy). The episode She is an incredibly example of this. Empathy can show as an attempt to get to understand why someone thinks how they do; Shaun's subplot in She exemplifies this (I didn't know what else to call it besides a subplot lol). In doing this, Shaun also seems to really bond with Quinn, and I'm gonna be honest, by the end of the episode I was genuinely crying.
To address the "Shaun's meltdown was unrealistic" I also found out that shutdowns are essentially internalized meltdowns (as in they're two sides of the same coin). There are so many ways that meltdowns and shutdowns can present; a lot of my meltdowns have involved me self-isolating and throwing things, vs tantrums which usually involved yelling and no longer happen as I am 19 and have grown out of them (although meltdowns have also in the past involved me yelling too, although it wasn't as common. Granted I experience shutdowns a hell of a lot more than meltdowns).
The other thing with that: can hospital personnel even do that? Can they force residents to switch departments like that? Can you force a surgical resident to switch to pathology like that?? After medical school you enter residency to study your specific field of medicine that you want to go into (for example, if I want to go into neurology, after med school I'd become a neurology resident). Residency DOES NOT FUCKING WORK LIKE THAT AS FAR AS I KNOW????
Not just is Shaun's meltdown realistic, hospitals don't generally work like that, you can't force residents to switch specialties like that lol.
Anyway long post over, I am so normal about The Good Doctor :)

Can a stormwater study help Metro Detroit communities get along?
author: Brian Allnutt
Tumblr media
A new study is looking for ways to promote regional stormwater cooperation in southeast Michigan, where floods in 2014 and 2021 caused more than a billion dollars in damage in each instance.
There’s a “clear consensus the stormwater issue is getting worse,” said Carol Miller, director of Wayne State’s Healthy Urban Waters program. According to the 4th National Climate Assessment, extreme rainfall and flooding are likely among the most serious impacts of climate change in the Midwest.
Miller and colleagues from the University of Michigan and Michigan State University are working on the Michigan Center for Freshwater Innovation study. The goal is to see how flooding could be mitigated by pooling resources, especially land, which might be used to sequester stormwater and reduce the pressure on regional sewer systems during heavy rains.
The Great Lakes Water Authority and Detroit Water and Sewerage Department will be helping investigators with surveys and data gathering. Researchers will also be hosting listening sessions and bringing community members into advisory committees to produce a plan for local governments and utilities, which they expect to have completed within the next two years.
This effort could help communities move past the sometimes-bitter infighting that Miller says is “to be expected” for a system as large as the one served by the GLWA.
In April 2022, several communities in Macomb County threatened to withhold payment to GLWA because of Highland Park’s water debts, which they said were inflating their own costs. And Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said in December 2022 that he was considering building a “dam” or “blockade” at the city’s border to stop sewage discharges from coming down the Red Run Drain from neighboring Oakland County.
Miller says an important part of the Center’s work will be mapping land for future stormwater projects, looking at vegetation, soil type, planned development, existing sewer pipes, and legacy pollution that could be released if the ground is disturbed.
These maps can then be used to find sites for either green infrastructure, like retention ponds and rain gardens, which slow water movement into sewers to prevent flooding, or gray infrastructure, such as storm sewers or underground reservoirs.
Several recent stormwater catchment projects along the Rouge River are part of an effort to reduce basement and roadway flooding on Detroit’s west side. But Miller says that projects in more “upstream” areas outside of Detroit could do more to keep precipitation out of the system.
These could help prevent flooding and sewer overflows when combined sewer and stormwater systems like Detroit’s receive too much water and discharge untreated or partially treated sewage into waterways. A 2022 Erb Family Foundation study supports Miller’s conclusion, finding that green infrastructure in metro Detroit may make the most sense in outlying areas.
Upstream solutions could also give the city better choices when dealing with combined sewage and stormwater. For example, Bryan Peckinpaugh, spokesperson for the DWSD, recently told Planet Detroit that the city’s plan for a “relief sewer” on the east side of Detroit would send untreated, combined sewage directly into the Detroit River. This would keep it out of basements, which would pose a serious public health threat, but send it into waterways, where it also presents a serious public health threat.
Yet, it may take a trusted authority to get communities to a point where they can move past their conflicts to work towards solutions that benefit the entire “sewershed” or drainage area that flows into the regional systems.
“I do believe that it’s very important that there is an identified champion… that has the respect of communities involved in these decision-making efforts,” Miller said.
Although the GLWA and Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) perform this function in some ways by mobilizing regional resources and setting rules, Miller suggests that a new agency may be needed to build a consensus for the best path forward on stormwater management.
This entity might resemble the International Joint Commission, where Miller serves on the Science Advisory Board. This quasi-governmental organization has operated since 1909, marshaling resources in the U.S. and Canada to address cross-border issues like Great Lakes water quality and air pollution. Appointed commissioners operate independently of their national governments and traditionally work by consensus.
“I think the IJC has been very successful because of the long-term vision and not steeped in any four-year or two-year political leadership,” Miller said. “People know that they can count on it and not worry about ‘oh, in two more years, we have different political leadership, and it’s going to change again.’”

Welcome to the Empire City, [CARMEN TORRES]. We hope you are finding everything okay because we know that this city can be difficult to explore. We heard that you are a/an [THIRTY-FOUR] year old who is a/an [MODEL AND INFLUENCER] and identifies as [SHE/HER], is that true? If so it totally makes sense since people would associate [YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL BY LANA DEL REY] with you. You’ve been here since [FIVE YEARS] and nobody has told you that you look exactly like [SHAY MITCHELL]?!
Carmen was born and raised in California with her mother and family who loved and adored her. Early on she didn’t have a father figure in her life, she knew she had one that support her and sent money every month, but she didn’t know much else.  While part of her wanted to know who this mystery man was, she knew all she needed was her mother and the family that she had. The woman who loved her and taught her everything she knew, despite her young age when she had her. When she got older she finally learned more about her father, her mother and James met while her mother off on a modeling job and they had a short fling. When she found out she was pregnant she informed him, she didn’t have any expectation.  But was surprised when she found out that he had also gotten another woman pregnant as well and that he planned on marrying her. So in hopes to keep her quiet so the couple could start their own family he promised to pay them as much as they needed and wanted to keep her and her family quiet.
Of course her mother, Ana didn’t need the money but she didn’t say no to it, especially for the sake of her daughter. She was a young and rebellious model who came from a wealthy family that gladly spoiled her. Ana had already managed to build her own empire through modeling and fashion so she had no concern with acting out and doing crazy things. Being able to live her life and enjoy it was important to her. She was always proud of her work but her proudest accomplishment was her daughter, Carmen. After having her she came first and her work second. Carmen got what she wanted, items, support and love.
She didn’t let turn into a bump in the road or take over her life, her mother made sure of it. Ana always made she she was there for her daughter but never smothered her. She taught Carmen how to be confident and proud of who she was. Constantly reminding her of how important her happiness was and how it was okay to do what you need to make sure she could get it. Her mother never wanted her daughter to live with regrets in her life, she wanted her daughter to live her life and have fun when she could. In some people’s eyes it may not have been the best advice but it has worked so well for the both of them. Why would they stop now? So to say that Carmen has had many moments where she was selfish or manipulative would be an understatement. Of course she could be kind to people but only if she truly cared about them or possibly saw it to be something that could benefit her in some way. That combined with her looks and confidence had always made her an alluring person anywhere she went. Anywhere her and her mother traveled in their life she was able to thrive. Even from schooling to when she was ready to explore the world outside of what she knew.
And when she graduated she took the world by storm. Immediately making a name for herself on social media and in the fashion industry. Not even a year after and she was traveling constantly for work. Modeling gigs, commercials, photoshoots left and right. And that didn't even cover all of the brand deals she had as well. It has been non stop ever since, but the older she got the more she realized it may be nice to plant more roots. That is when she got a place in New York, that she has now had for a few years. Of course it can't compare to home, but she's warmed up to it. And maybe, just maybe, part of her wonders what it would be like to slow down and maybe make more commitments. But would she admit that? Never.

In ABA therapy, a therapist enhances wanted behaviors and dissuades unwanted behavior in a patient. Therapists utilize benefits to motivate a patient to develop interaction, language, and other abilities. There are numerous different kinds of ABA.
ABA was produced in the 1960s by a behavioral psychologist called Dr. Ivar Lovaas, however the methods have actually evolved over the years. Dr. Lovaas initially applied ABA to autism because he believed that social and behavioral skills might be taught to autistic kids.
Who Needs Aba Therapy?
However, the ABA has likewise been criticized by caregivers and autism advocates. The primary issue is that the therapy does not reveal respect for autistic individuals and that it might even damage them. Supporters of ABA therapy point out the following advantages: Research studies have actually shown that ABA treatment works in helping autistic individuals learn abilities.
ABA can be utilized to reward children for brushing their teeth properly or for sharing their toys with friends. ABA helps to give moms and dads a guide for teaching and a method to measure progress.
Benefits Of Aba Therapy Training For Parents
Informing kids that flapping their hands or other stims are wrong when they are a child's natural behaviors dismisses their requirements. These issues have led to some changes in ABA treatment. Now, therapists concentrate on altering habits rather than an autistic individual's sensations or thoughts. The objective is to assist autistic individuals live as separately as possible, not try to "fix" them.
The therapist will start with an assessment to look at your child's medical history and previous treatments. Your relative will be interviewed to discover out more about their objectives for treatment. The therapist will likewise observe your child throughout an initial session and continue to evaluate your child's development towards goals regularly.

Orange County Lemon Law Lawyer: Who are they? What do they do?
Lemon law is a gateway to legal resolution for consumers who have purchased defective vehicles. If you have a car that even after multiple service sessions from the dealer still doesn’t get repaired, it is termed a lemon. In such as case, you can file a claim against manufacturers and retailers for performance and quality. As these laws are complicated and would require good negotiation skills, it is better to hire a lemon law lawyer.
What is considered a Lemon?
A vehicle is termed a lemon when it does not meet performance, safety, and quality standards. However, this term is subjected to the legal definition, which means it is critical to review how the law identifies a lemon. The definition of lemon will vary from case to case, so it is imperative to work with an Orange County lemon law lawyer to understand whether your vehicle qualifies as a lemon or not. For many states, the vehicle or car must meet three conditions to be considered a lemon, which are:
The car should have a significant defect that is covered by the warranty
You continue to experience the defect even after several reasonable repair efforts
You should have been unable to use the vehicle for a certain amount of time (30 days or more)
What does a Lemon Law Lawyer Do?
A lemon law lawyer will handle various aspects of the case including negotiations, client communications, and gathering evidence. They can work on behalf of the consumer or the vehicle manufacturing company. Here is a brief description of what lemon lawyers do:
Analyzing the client’s intake to determine whether the case is actionable
Gather necessary evidence to present the demands
Use written and verbal communication for negotiation
Work with experts and witnesses to build a strong case
Document responses from liable parties to use them as evidence
Provide legal support and advice to clients
Assisting with settlement on behalf of clients
When you hire an Orange County lemon law lawyer to handle your case, he or she will address it from beginning to end. Your lawyer will also ensure that you do not miss any critical notification or deadline.

Here are a few reasons why it is beneficial to hire an Orange County lemon law lawyer:
He/she will handle the entire case for you
You will have a higher chance of succeeding
You could walk away with a more significant settlement
You don’t have to pay anything to the lawyer as their fees are paid by the opposition after you have won the case
They will gather the necessary evidence and build a stronger case for you

Several Sources of Particular Organizational Power
Power within just an organization mostly comes from a couple of factors: personal features and the individual's formal position - you versus in which you are. (Note: this is certainly not about organizations along with strong chains-of-authority in addition to communication including the military or police which is based about rank. Although other non-military organizations have got a hierarchy involving authority, they are not because rigidly enforced while in the armed service. ) There are four specific features we should discuss within the scope involving who you will be: 1 . Your experience - specialized function related knowledge will be a great benefit because it gets rid of boundaries of qualifications, formal education, or who you understand. In other words and phrases, if you are an expert in undertaking the work of typically the organization, you could have several personal power dependent on your expert knowledge and everyone recognizes it. Typically the problem connected with this specific characteristic is if higher-ranking folks are produced in from outside the house, they may have got to depend on decrease ranking people who have even more work knowledge. This specific can give the subordinate an influence (probably temporary) in the organization that will would seem disproportionate to their placement that is typically decreased profile and practically "invisible. inches The danger for typically the staff person is definitely soon the new boss could possibly get upwards to speed on the new job and will have a very better perspective associated with what is heading on around them. At that stage, he/she should be able to assessment the actions in the subordinate and judge whether they served in the new boss' best interests or not necessarily. 2. Your own personal appeal - desirable characteristics seen in a person by those with you. These include panache, agreeable behavior, and physical characteristics Panache - defined because " A rare personal quality related to leaders who arouse intense popular devotion and even enthusiasm. Personal magnetism or charm: some sort of television news program famed to the charisma of its anchors. "* Although of which definition may make it seem of which this trait will be more of some sort of gift from Lord than something an individual can influence, research indicates there are several intentional behaviors that could lead to a "charismatic perception" simply by others: Express a vision for the organization that is motivating to others Get personal sacrifice as well as risk while chasing that vision Suggest or support using non-traditional methods to achieve goals Have a seemingly uncanny feel so that is probable and be really aware of timing in relation to the significant issues within that will vision Most important involving all - demonstrate sensitivity to members' needs and issues. Agreeable behavior - the characteristics needed to develop plus sustain friendships of which would include as a minimum: Support an available, honest, and devoted relationship Be identified as emotionally attainable - a good listener Provide absolute, wholehearted and positive consider and acceptance. ("I might not approve of what you do but I am still your good friend. ") Endure several sacrifices if the particular relationship requires all of them Be genuinely sympathetic or empathetic as the situation needs Physical characteristics instructions Obviously, someone are unable to do a lot about their innate actual physical characteristics but they will can do something special in their dress and even grooming. Tabloids inside the grocery store peruse line frequently operate pictures of Showmanship stars with in addition to without their makeup. Many times, typically the contrast is pretty striking. Remember the saying that "you only get one shot to make a good first impression" as well as the fact of which, whether justified or even not, many individuals make snap decision taking more based about their appearance. Ensure you give yourself every advantage that an individual can from the actual appearance standpoint. What else could you do to improve your personal destination in these a few areas? Charisma : how can a person become more charismatic? Agreeable behavior - how can you demonstrate more acceptable behavior? What else could you do to change the personal characteristics to conform more to the culture with no losing your individuality? 3. The amount of effort a person put into your current work. The a lot more that you are known as dependable, ready to "go the particular extra mile", in order to stay late to assist with unexpected work tells people that will you might be an above average person; i actually. e., the "team player" that every team needs to be successful. A high degree involving personal effort is definitely valued in businesses as it gives typically the perception the individual is dependable, persistent, and can easily be counted onto "go the additional mile" - (however one defines that will nebulous phrase. ) This trait is definitely increasingly important in a business local climate where flexibility of schedule amidst the rapidly changing surroundings is critical. Sadly, this trait can also be a double-edged blade to the doctor issue willingness in order to do "whatever that takes" is identified by some since the departmental mat: the person which does each of the work opportunities no one else wants or is going to do and doesn't experience the skills to stand up on their own and even say number Within this case, many of us recommend demonstrating a new willingness to exert the excess effort although also be strong enough to question for some trade-offs. "If more info work late tonight to help you, can I leave early tomorrow to be able to watch my infant's Little League football game? inches some. "Conformity" is working in alignment with the organization's norms and values. The greater you act typically the "way we expect" here in the company, the more we all will accept you into our lifestyle. The deeper a person become immersed inside our culture signifies the more impact (power) you usually are likely to include around. The more you make an effort to evolve or "fit in" with an firm means the even more influence you usually are capable of getting. This is very much more than next the dress program code and the policies you received in the course of the orientation method, it means which you take time in order to understand the culture. Are there company stories of renowned efforts ("Ray remained on the job for seventy two hours during of which hurricane 3 years ago") or decisions built that emphasize the particular company values ("Even though we could have doubled our business, we might have had to be able to compromise quality") of which help define the culture? If the company calls alone, "the company to own, the spot to operate, the next door neighbor to have", exactly what does that mean to you as a new employee? What does it notify you about typically the company's values? Exactly how can understanding of which phrase increase your own ability to adapt and gain affect as a solid supporter of the company's vision associated with itself? Suppose your employer were the insurance company along with the founders decided that for anyone to be able to be promoted previously mentioned a certain degree anywhere within typically the company, they got to meet some industry requirements with regard to professional certification. "But I'm in HR and don't deal with customers! Why should I have to have that certification? " a person may wonder. The solution would be that the founders wished to make certain that every worker above a certain pay out level shared the particular same understanding regarding the industry and typically the need for customer program. This means they would be more focused on the business total instead of their functional department inside it. In typically the founders' minds, that is a way to ensure the corporate tradition endures. If an individual were to protest loudly that it won't make sense today regardless of precisely what the founders believed fifty in years past, an individual could seriously jeopardize your credibility plus subsequent influence inside the organization. This is usually not to say that speaking up ought to be discouraged but rather an individual may be likely to experience to "pay their dues" before they might speak with any legitimacy within the culture Focus on individuals four sources of organizational power for twelve months consistently and you will be pleasantly surprised throughout your career possible a year through now! *The United states Heritage Dictionary in the English Language, Fourth Edition Richard ("Dick") Grimes has applied his 30+ yrs experience in teaching and operations supervision for private in addition to public organizations as a foundation regarding his company, Outsource Training. biz LLC. Editor's Note: Dorothy Robyn is a Senior Fellow with Boston University’s Institute for Global Sustainability. She oversaw DOD military bases during the Obama Administration.
Last week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced plans to convene a bipartisan commission to tackle federal spending more broadly once the debt-ceiling fight settles down. McCarthy likened it to the commission used to identify unneeded military bases as part of the Department of Defense’s Base Realignment and Closure, or BRAC, process. The Speaker’s proposal to convene a BRAC commission makes sense but not for the reason he suggests.
What is BRAC?
The BRAC process was designed to give Members of Congress the political cover needed to support a desired action (multiple base closures) that would impose severe economic pain on a subset of communities. Congress authorized the use of the current process for the 1988 round of base closures, and it authorized four additional closure rounds in 1991, 1993, 1995 and 2005.
Two features of the BRAC process, which former Rep. Dick Armey of Texas is credited with devising, are key to its success. One is the independent commission, which reviews a set of recommendations that DOD puts forward following an elaborate internal review. The Commission can take individual bases off of DOD’s list. It can also add bases to the list, although that requires extra procedural steps and has been far less common.
The other key feature of BRAC is the requirement that the White House and Congress accept or reject the Commission’s recommendations in their entirety. By prohibiting the President and Members from taking individual bases off of the closure list, the BRAC process makes the Commission’s recommendations conditionally binding. The prohibition on cherry-picking also gives Members plausible deniability as to the outcome of the process.
BRAC is the solution to what economists call a “public good” problem. A round of base closures, like clean air or national security, is something that benefits everyone and that no one can be excluded from enjoying. The challenge with public goods is to pay for them. The BRAC process historically provided a politically palatable way to pay for this particular public good.
Why BRAC Isn’t Suited to Deficit Reduction
While an independent commission could play a key role in federal deficit reduction, BRAC is not the right model, and Congress will never agree to the other features of the BRAC process that make it so effective.
The BRAC process works (or worked in the past) because two conditions are met when it comes to base closures. One, all of the players agree that an action (multiple closures) that will impose losses on the few is good for the many. Two, individual closure decisions are unrelated to any cross-cutting political or policy divisions in Congress, with local politics representing the only impediment.
By contrast, when it comes to the federal budget, there is no agreement among the players that a reduction in spending is desirable, and local politics is only one impediment to individual spending cuts, which often threaten the missions of federal agencies and the interests of cross-cutting groups. For this reason, just as with other contentious issues such as climate policy or immigration reform, it is exceedingly unlikely that Congress would authorize a BRAC-like process to address federal spending in the first place.
That said, there may be value in convening a bipartisan panel of outside experts to help identify potential budget cuts as well as tax increases that Congress and the Executive Branch could consider. This is different from the “appellate” role served by the BRAC commission, which reviews and tweaks judgments made by DOD, and the panel’s recommendations would be non-binding. But such a panel may respond to a need for expertise in finding deficit-reduction opportunities.
There is a history of non-BRAC-like commissions having been convened to tackle deficit reduction, and a few of them have produced results. Executive-led efforts such as Vice President Al Gore’s Reinventing Government initiative have also enjoyed considerable success. While the Speaker’s current timing, just before a presidential election, is problematic, early 2025, with the Trump Administration’s tax cuts due to expire in their entirety at the end of 2025, could be an ideal time to convene an independent commission or undertake an executive-led initiative.
Create a BRAC Commission — To Do BRAC
Speaker McCarthy’s proposal is just the latest example of the BRAC process being seen — usually incorrectly — as a model for overcoming entrenched political opposition to policy change. For example, Members have introduced several bills authorizing a BRAC-style process to move valuable radio spectrum from federal control to commercial use.
The irony is that Congress continues to treat BRAC itself as a four-letter word. DOD avoids $7 billion in spending every year because of past base closures, making BRAC perhaps the most significant efficiency initiative the Pentagon has ever carried out. And in 2017, DOD determined that it still had 20 percent excess infrastructure. Despite that, beginning in 2012, Congress has repeatedly spurned DOD requests for new BRAC authority because of the opposition from lawmakers who don’t want to see bases closed in their states and districts.
Speaker McCarthy is on the right path in calling for an independent commission to address federal spending. But while BRAC is a poor model for the process of deficit reduction, reauthorization of BRAC could help Congress achieve the substance of its budget reduction target. If the Speaker’s commission is effective, its many recommendations will include the resumption of BRAC that DOD has long sought.
