okay I’ve never used a travel agent but am I right in assuming they normally charge you a fee? because one of my former coworkers has started a side gig as a travel agent in what seems to be some type of shady travel agent borderline mlm and she’s constantly hawking different trips on social media and says she doesn’t charge anything bc she gets commission from the resorts/from Disney World. all her vacation packages are cruises or all inclusive resorts or Disney which isn’t my thing anyway but. I feel like this just seems untrustworthy. How the hell do I know you’re booking a good cruise and not just telling me it’s good bc the cruise line gives you kickbacks. I would rather pay the travel agent and know they are finding me the best option were I to use one. I guess my question is—is being a travel agent just inherently sketchier than I thought or is this woman’s company sketchier than most.

The local farmer I get my chicks and beef from had a Cooper's Hawk fly into the pen as she was working with the chicks, and to protect the chicks, she just straight caught the hawk.

Story Time: Top Secret Wedding Dress Project

Ok so B and I have started planning our wedding. We’re going to elope to a fire lookout tower fall of next year and then throw a reception afterward to celebrate with friends/fam. We’re trying to be as fiscally and environmentally responsible as possible, so we're thrifting/diying everything (cake to decor) and my parents are generously allowing us to use their back/side yards to host. I’ve been visiting goodwill every weekend and monitoring FB marketplace like a hawk. Last month, I found a dress. I’m keeping the design a secret from B so Tumblr is going to be my outlet for sharing the slow makeover process.

My end goal is a fitted, floral-embroidered bodice and a big ballroom skirt with a long train. Heart neckline, possibly with mesh straps/sleeves for additional embroidery to spill over.

I found a dress with the perfect silhouette on fb marketplace for $150 (even though it was over $1k new!). The top was a bit big in the bust/straps but otherwise fit me perfectly. I wasn't a fan of the belt or neckline, and it had several stains from being bustled, but I loved it the minute I tried it on (it also has pockets!!).

Over the last month I removed the belt, padded cups, and underskirt (I’ll replace the underskirt at the end, but cleaning with it attached would have been a nightmare), washed it, slowly got almost all the stains out, and pinned the top into the shape (ish) I was looking for. I also picked up some stretchy organza and some embroidered panels I’m planning to hand paint, as well as some dye and fabric paint.

GPF FD- catching up -

i love Lolo and Nik and always want them to do well, but they've been having a lot of trouble skating clean this season 😢 this was much better than the RD but still with little issues - i'm wondering, if they make big enough mistakes at 🇨🇦 Nationals and LaLa skate clean, will the judges hold FBS up or let LaLa beat them this time. the Canadian judge here had LaLa ahead of FBS in their FD ranking 👀

F/G - this is so not how i want to feel after watching anyone skate 😬😅

G/P - Mark quoted Carol Lane saying that Piper and Paul feel they're not skating a program when they perform this FD but creating brushstrokes of a picture that only lives while they're skating - it's kind of ott😅, but there's something to it? when they're on, like at Skate Canada, this feels like a complete story in its own world for a few minutes, and it's compelling. but when they're a little off, the bubble bursts more than for other teams

G/F - i do like that they're showing a softer and more expressive style. i feel more puzzled than anything that the program is about Stephen Hawking and his wife🤔

C/B- so much arm choreo in this program- partly it's clock hands, but also a lot of distracting, repetitive arm waving. and they spend so much of the program practically standing still or moving around a tiny portion of the ice

LaLa- how brilliant is it for a skater to be seriously studying contemporary dance and choreography while they're still competing? it shows. and Marjo’s growing in expression and extension seemingly from competition to competition. they have the best program. i’m not sure why this competition shook him, he seemed extra nervous- maybe it was hitting him that they’d made it to the big league they had less training time than most everyone and are still looking this good? bring on Nats, 4CC and Worlds🥹

So you know that its been speculated since Kotono interview in Cosmos visual book that she's retiring voicing Usagi.

Which I took it as since Cosmos is the series finale of Crystal that she's done voicing Usagi unless its a new reboot in the future which I highly doubt it.

So one FB group had a post saying Sailor Moon OG VA is retiring role with anyone with a damn brain would know they are talking about Kotono. This one person really have the nerve to say " Terri Hawkes is calling it a career? Well Played"

I stg the amount of people that kiss the dic dub ass that can't even give the OG voice of Usagi respect.

Terri is not only VA that voiced Sailor Moon damn it. And she wasn't even the first one for the dic dub because that was Tracey Moore.

I just wanted to say that if anyone is wanting to help Hawkes Bay and is planning to donate clothes etc: most donation centers are turning anything but bulk supplies away now. I know of some people who bought a truck load of clothes and linens and canned food and were turned away from 15 donation centers because they just Do Not have the resources to sort through and distribute more donations. This does not mean that all the people's needs have been 100% met and they don't need any more help, it just means the centers are overwhelmed and have to be as efficient as possible, which means cutting out the sorting by only accepting bulk goods.

They are also at a point where the immediate need for non-consumables like clothes and linens have been mostly met. If you have 2nd hand things to give hold off a few weeks/months and see if people are asking for more then. A lot of people most in need are in temporary living situations and their belongings need to fit into 1 or 2 bags, they're going to need more things when they're more settled. Or if you want to do something Right Now, sell your 2nd hand goods and donate the proceeds to a reputable charity.

If you don't trust the charities to spend cash wisely (some people don't) then look on FB and see what items community organizers are specifically requesting and where they should be sent to. Or if you know someone who is ready to leave with rubbish bags of clothes and boxes of cans who is likely to be turned away then message me and I'll put you in contact with a lady that's set up a shop where RSE workers can come grab anything they need for free. They need shoes.

I kept forgetting to share this fun little anniversary but had to before 2023 ends: This past fall marked 20(!) years of me having the same hair "style"* / a middle part! 🤓 And before this, I had my childhood bangs. And before that, my baby!hawk. And that's it. *I never qualify this as an actual hairstyle because it essentially began as just me parting my hair out of my face. My hair has always been a point of pride /and/ I've always been lazy about it; if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I don't have any photos of me from fall 2003 on hand, so here's a photo of me from summer 2004 (and the 1st tagged photo of me on Facebook, back when FB introduced photo albums/tagging in fall 2005 and we all raced to upload our photos from high school and tag each other), southern Germany** / somewhere in Bayern (judging by the photo that came before this in my classmate's album I'm pretty sure this was near or at Neuschwanstein).

**(Context for the uninformed: In high school, I was part of this super-nerd program that you applied to get into in 8th grade. Every year they took the top 30 students from my HS and our sister school. We then spent every morning throughout all 4 years of high school with each other for English, Social Studies, and foreign language classes. The program cycled through 4 languages; my class was assigned German. And our junior year we participated in a foreign exchange program and spent a month living in Germany. Memories!)
