I've been listening to an embarrassing pop song, and all I can think of is Harry and Kim meeting in their early 20s, and Kim is still in his massively rebellious phase.

Maybe neither Kim nor Harry is in the RCM yet. Harry's a gym teacher. Maybe Kim is doing community service (cleaning up the schoolyard?) because he got caught being a delinquent. They strike up a friendship.

Maybe it's unlikely from the outside - but they're two people chewed up and spat out by the system. Harry just has more advantages than Kim.

Maybe Harry has started seeing Dora, or he's thinking about asking her out. He's head over heels, and it's so fucking painful for Kim to watch. Painful because he's jealous. Painful because he shouldn't be jealous. It makes him alternate between lashing out and being incredibly compassionate. It's confusing for both of them.

Maybe that jealousy spurs Kim on to show off for Harry - dragging him to races. Cars. Motorcycles. Bikes. Daredevil stunts done by people who see it as a win/win situation to survive a crash or go out in a blaze of glory. Kim participating in some of those races - speeding down the highway late at night. Drifting so hard that his shoulder almost touches the ground. Looking over and seeing Harry jumping to his feet. Out of fear? Out of pride? Doesn't matter. Harry sees him.

Maybe Harry notices he's not as interested in Dora. She's beautiful - so fucking beautiful - but she doesn't see him. She doesn't share the passion he does. She's gorgeous, but she's not cool. She doesn't like that he slips out to watch underground racing. She's not a fan of Kim.

Maybe Kim is Harry's first real friend since the other kids of the 15th Indotribe died out. Someone who sees Harry's curiosity and returns it with his own. A friendship that fills his lungs with light to the point of bursting. But he's never been hurt by friendship like this before. Friendship doesn't burn like this - that's reserved for wipeouts, booze, and love.

Maybe the first time they kiss, neither of them knows if it's a mistake.

As of last night, I finished my Disco Elysium fic (or the first draft anyway). 180ish pages, 60kish words (accounting for the scripting stuff to the best of my ability). I’m taking a break from my first proper tip to tail readthrough to go through my dash, but I’m gonna finish it up and chunk it into chapters then try to find beta readers to help me clean it up and edit a bit. If any followers and/or mutuals want to help I would be very grateful!!!

For those curious, it’s a slowburn Harry X Kim casefic that looks to establish sort of a post-canon canon - I started it as a sort of self-indulgent attempt to establish a feasible way of them getting together but then it just kind of spiraled into a novella so.

This was a bit daunting to write as I tried writing in-game style at first but it was a struggle. Then, the amount of lore in this! I love researching background lore and canon and am always intrigued by the ‘what ifs?’ that still tie in to the main show.

...I think I went with some creative license for this one.
