Any favourite anime film too ?
From this year? I think the only anime movies I watched that received 2023 releases in the U.S. were Suzume and The Boy and the Heron. I liked both, though I'm not sure either is particularly memorable among the directors' films.
Tumblr media
I didn't get to watch The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes when it was in theaters, which was a shame because I did a whole series of posts about the book on which its based. But HiDIVE gets it on January 2nd and I'm excited to stream it then! I also missed To Every You I've Loved Before and To Me, The One Who Loved You—they're both on Crunchyroll right now, I believe.

Anime Feminist’s Favorite Films of 2023
Tumblr media
We’re trying something new this year! Folks have requested more coverage of films, and we aim to please. Welcome to our first year-end film recommendation round-up!
How did we choose our recs?
Participating staff members can nominate up to three titles and can also co-sign other nominated films. Rather than categorizing titles as “feminist-friendly” or “problematic,” they are simply listed in alphabetical order with relevant content warnings; doing otherwise ran the risk of folks seeing these staff recommendations as rubber stamps of unilateral “Feminist Approval,” which is something we try our hardest to avoid here.
The titles below are organized alphabetically. Because licensing and distribution processes often takes longer for films than television series, we’ve demarcated a film’s “year” by the date of its English-language release–in other words, the year that we would’ve had access to it. Likewise, because films are harder to access reliably than TV series, note that a title’s lack of inclusion here might not mean we hated it, but that no one on staff was able to view it prior to publishing. We’ll work on ironing out any issues going forward and possibly looking back at films of previous years, so now more than ever we welcome your feedback.
Here’s what the team thought—let us know your picks in the comments!
Read it at Anime Feminist!

I put the clothes in the washer on a whim and now I don't want to rotate them. I'm in bed with cat :( :( I have tea and I sent my last email for the night and now I want to hide and die.
I'm supposed to host a board game night tomorrow and that is like- the last thing I want to do.

I wish there were more hints that 3a was the last time we would get Anne and the Plantars as a unit together before the finale, excluding RoE. I'm also annoyed they made Sprig's Birthday, the last episode in the series dedicated explicitly to Spranne, more skippable than a Spider-Man parody episode. Sorry to rant, I just have mixed feelings on how shoved into the backgrounds the Plantars got in 3B.
*slamming my fists on the table* s3a and s3b would've been nicer to have their own season

Thaddeus (khajiit paladin): Do you know where the crown is now?
DM: Maria says, "I know where it should be. When a ruler of Gandarall died, the Herald of Mercy returned to the stone by the enchantment I placed on it. The crown was given into the care of the official Crown Keeper, and the next person to pull the sword would travel to the Crown Keeper's lodge, present the sword, and be crowned."
Thaddeus: Where's the lodge?
DM: "In the mountains to the east of here."
Godric (fairy warlock): *unhappy* Maria... You don't really want to be involved in this, do you?
DM: She says, "No. I want to live a simple life with my party and avoid big events. I am tired."
Godric: I'm sorry we keep involving you. I won't do it again. *leaves the room*
Seraph (siren sorcerer): *awkward* I'm sorry too, but not sorry enough to not call you if the world's going to end otherwise. Sorry.
DM: "I understand."
Billie (gnome ardent): *sadly* So I guess we'll leave you alone.
DM: "I would appreciate it. I'll keep the Sending Stone, but on the understanding that you only ask for my help if you are out of options. This is an emergency line only."
Billie: Can I still call to catch up?
DM: "I will not hesitate to destroy it if you're abusing it."
Billie: *meekly* Okay.

we are finally home after a busy day. if you don't know already, callie passed away this morning. she fought so hard for the last month and held on for long enough that everyone who knows her and loves her got to see her and say goodbye while she was still in good spirits. unfortunately in the days leading up to this morning she suddenly rapidly declined again and we knew it was time. i won't go into the sad details but despite her condition she continued to love and be loved. she fell asleep in my arms leading up to her final moments, and we got to give her so many hugs and kisses. it didn't take long for the medicine to take her when it was finally time, she was already so weak. her personality has always been so quirky, it was hard to see her decline but she was still so full of love to the very end.
immediately after she passed alana and i went to a boardwalk nature trail and just walked for a while before going for ice cream (the cashier was incredibly nice to us, we must have seemed in need of cheering up because this was a theme of the day)
after ice cream we came home and cleaned up callie's things. vacuumed up some of the cat hair and packed away her furniture and the things we wanted to keep, we set aside some things for her memorial space, and we took everything else to the animal shelter.
just packing up her things was already somewhat cathartic but while at the shelter we decided to visit with the kitties and this was actually a very good idea. it was so bizarrely comforting, seeing and holding the small lovable kittens and realizing in a way that one day we will be able to get a cat as loving as callie was and it will be easy to fall in love with it too.
after the animal shelter, we had to swing by our house again to get the bulk pack of wet food that was delivered, very cruel irony there. it was a $50 box so i reached out for a refund and was given one pretty much immediately and told not to return the food, which gives us a reason to go back to the shelter on monday and donate this food too. (and visit more kitties of course)
we were probably keeping ourselves busy subconsciously, but it was good for us i think, because next we went to a state park and just enjoyed some time by the ocean. we saw so many crabs and even a heron came right up to us!
and you'd think that's the end of the day's adventure but no, after that we went to get pizza for dinner (because cooking is just not an option right now iykyk) and we saw a deer!! a freaking random deer after already seeing a random heron, it was just amazing.
finally we went to target to grab some necessary groceries as some kind of weird semblance that even though callie is gone life has to go on.
i am not kidding when i say every single other human we had to interact with today was nothing but kind to us. all friendly smiles. we didn't tell any of them what happened and yet every single one of them from the ice cream shop girl to the lady at the state park and even the target self checkout person. it was genuinely a beautiful day despite everything. it almost feels like callie's loving energy was just with us throughout the day.
i'm going to miss her so much, and knowing she's gone forever is very hard but i don't think i could've asked for a better experience with it. now it's time to finish up the last bit of cleaning and take a much needed shower.
after her urn and ashes arrive i'll post one final callie update, but as of now this is it. she is gone, resting in peace on the other side of the rainbow bridge. our sweet angel baby 💗

thouttes abt the boy and the heron
informal summary of some of my impressions and interpretations now that i've watched the film twice and want to put some of this into words... more like assorted notes than an essay with a refined theme or thesis. obv some spoilers ahead
p much the biggest impression i had after my first watch was that this film felt a lot sadder than many of the other studio ghibli a/o miyazaki films, and i think i pinned down some of the reasons better after a second viewing. main examples of this to me were
prominence of death in the story/worldbuilding
dreamlike elements were generally more unsettling and lonely rather than whimsical
music
protagonist's relative solemness
the finality of goodbyes and endings
want to expand on all of these a bit -- be warned that i will have some comparisons w other ghibli films, but since i have not watched all of them super recently and there are a couple i haven't watched (from up on poppy hill, porco rosso) my comparisons may not be that accurate. but i'm not writing an academic essay here, so bleh. for me, the point of comparison here is not to say which story did what better but to look at some similar elements and see how they evolved to serve this story. anyway!
prominence of death in the story/worldbuilding
i think actually the majority of ghibli protagonists have to deal with death intimately -- they may be orphans or have a parent who passed away or is on the verge of it. i think the difference in this movie is that mahito is still grieving for his mother in a more obvious (to the audience) way with his dreams, and then he enters another world through the tower that is "mostly" filled with the dead. kiriko and himi are not dead, but they seem to be more "liminal" than say natsuko or mahito -- younger versions of the people that mahito knows, around in this other world for a very long time, perhaps as long as they can remember, taking care of the warawara who will eventually become the living in the world(s) "above". it's not really clear (to me) if this is THE underworld or afterlife -- although it's filled with the dead, to me it felt like it was just a possible location, one of many possibilities. but then again it also hosts The Stone, which floats above a little island covered in blocks that are made of stones for tombs and tainted with malice. the source of power (and arguably life) rests directly above one representation/connection to death. i don't have a full thesis here but i am chewing on the thought
i thought it was really interesting that the dead did not have the power to kill in this world, and kiriko and himi seem to be the only people apart from the tower master who have powers (kiriko with that wand of fire) + the dead and warawara have to rely on kiriko for the fish catches. anyway i think death itself felt more prominent to me in this film bc mahito was always feeling the absence of his mother and then sunk into a world of death, even if death was not the only thing in that world.
dreamlike elements were generally more unsettling and lonely rather than whimsical
this movie felt a lot more liminal and generally "dreamy" to me, and while a lot of ghibli films are known for their whimsy and cute elements i felt that this one leaned a lot harder into creatures or sensations that were less pleasant. ofc i don't think it's the first one to do this -- off the top of my head, princess mononoke, spirited away, and HMC all definitely depict some "unsettling" stuff like gushing blood, goo, creatures or people melting, and so on. but in those works i feel like there are also a lot of beautiful or cute and whimsical creatures or moments to balance that out a bit, whereas in the boy and the heron it seems to happen less or it Feels less (to me) bc the unsettling parts have greater impact (to me) than the ~beauty~. the heron is beautiful and graceful at a distance, and then it follows him from window to window, interrupts his sleep, flies directly at him like an attack. you have the serene pond by mahito's house in his original world, and then there are the mobs of fish and frogs chanting at mahito and almost smothering him. you have the cutie warawara, and then some of them are eaten or go up in flames. you have the beautiful structures and gardens of himi's home and The Tower, and then you have the unsettling murderous parakeets in them. maybe the point is that they are all "tainted" or somewhat balanced like this.
also, the loneliness. again, not unique to this film, but i felt the presence of it more heavily, especially visually. in mahito's house in the countryside, most of the rooms are quite bare, save for natsuko's bedroom with its ornate wallpaper and carpet. mahito's room is quite sparse apart from the books on his desk. once we get into the sea world, it's wide and relatively empty -- an uninterrupted expanse of sea, eventually dotted with small islands, but those little islands are quite sparse too, mostly filled with trees. the lines of sailboats on the horizon, "none of which are real," as if they're all optical illusions. the rowboats powered by the dead, all of the rowers onboard appearing exactly the same with no way to differentiate one from another. inside the tower and near it, there are also these "bare" spaces -- that very illusion-like space of those arches, where you have to cross that empty and silent expanse from darkness into the blinding light that leads into the paradise-like garden. the island where The Stone is, just a hill covered in stones and grass growing over top. the delivery room, which is dark and bare apart from the mobile with the rotating paper strips. so much of it felt isolated and quiet in a lonely way to me.
music
to tie in with that last part, i think the music also felt generally more sparse and solemn than other ghibli osts, and i'm sure it was intentional. i've been listening to the ost for the past two-ish weeks and my impressions are that there's generally "less" orchestration and a lot more isolated piano sound. a lot of that piano is slow/drawn out and there's not as many chords, and the chords that Are there are simpler (maybe only two or three notes). there's a lot of intentional dissonance, both in piano parts And the parts with more instruments -- isolated piano is more obvious, but i can definitely hear it in the strings. it's hard to explain more than that without like, showing examples of specific clips or sheet music lmao but i think it definitely contributes to the overall moods of loneliness, somber tones, and unsettling vibes. like when you know you're having a really weird dream but can't wake up from it.
protagonist's relative solemness
most ghibli protags are precocious and have a greater sense of responsibility than the average child/teenager their age, but i really felt it with mahito. the sequence of him briefly in school was so interesting -- i really like how there was no dialogue in it and it was just music, bc the conversations didn't really matter when mahito was going to purposely isolate himself/make it so that he didn't have to go back and attempt to make friends there. mahito does have moments where he shows strong emotions: grief abt his mother, anger when the grey heron "disrespects" her honor with the illusion of her, more anger when he sees the warawara being burned, determination when he tries to get natsuko out of the delivery room. but in general those seemed like short bursts between longer stretches where he felt much more solemn and accepting of the current circumstances. when in the sea world, his curiosity about it felt restrained or maybe even limited -- he was there to find natsuko and nearly everything else was less of a priority. even when he decided to accept natsuko as his mother, it felt almost like he knew it was his fate and he simply had to go along with it without any other passionate conviction. he didn't seem to care about finding his own path or realizing any dreams for his future. i don't think this is a bad thing, but it was a different tone than i was used to for most ghibli films.
the finality of goodbyes and endings
again, certainly not the first time something has literally crumbled or been destroyed in a ghibli film: the forest in princess mononoke, howl's moving castle falling apart, the existing ravaged/poisoned world in nausicaa. however, i think the scale of it was much wider here: instead of an important structure or one contained place, the original stone was shattered and that whole world collapsed completely into space/time so that the pieces could not be rebuilt. the ending still has some hope - mahito chooses to return to this world so that he can be with his family and friends. but seeing how worlds could be built with two handfuls of building blocks and be knocked down just as easily, and then watching all of it shatter before his eyes? watching the (probably) only remaining version of his mother go through the door to another world separate from his own? a bigger loss to experience, imo. if the stone was destroyed and the tower collapsed, there's no other way to even try to get back to that portal space and other worlds (not that mahito would actually try to). that's the point, and despite knowing that, it still feels like a heavier blow to me that All Possibility is truly gone. unless another similar stone falls from the sky i guess lol, but the point is that it would never be the same.
as one friend put it, this felt like a goodbye from miyazaki. the possibility for a perfectly harmonious and peaceful world does not exist; those in power will seek to destroy what they cannot control and there may be no coming back from it; perhaps you must accept that you must live in a world of atrocities.
and one last thing i wanted to talk abt even tho this is so long already: symbolism regarding suffering & critique of society
not at all surprising that this film too shows some effects of war, but that was not the biggest impression of Suffering that i got from it. three main examples for me: the pelicans, the parakeets, and the building block stones.
pelicans: brought to this world by the tower master himself, unable to eat most of the fish in the sea, forced to eat the warawara to survive. doing something that others consider terrible bc they have to in order to live. no matter how they try to escape, they can only fly so high and it's not enough. birds that forget how to fly and/or are (symbolically) chained/caged to one place (there is prob more to be said abt how there are so many birds in this movie and they're all fucked up in a way but i don't have the thoughts/words to expand on it).
parakeets: normally(?) considered cute but kind of grotesque in this story, at least in the sea world. often moving in units like soldiers or as if an assembly line, mechanically and identically, having not much purpose other than guarding their territory, identifying and eating outsiders/intruders (the living??). seem to be kind of stupid -- can be tricked very easily. they unanimously celebrate their king, a parakeet that looks more like an eagle bc of his coloring.
speaking of which: the king himself, insisting on punishing transgressors even though they haven't done any tangible damage, holding rules/the current system in greater esteem than the situation in reality. claims to do everything for the good of his kingdom/people but haphazardly tries to seize control and build a new world himself when mahito won't do it. on the one hand, it makes sense that he would get mad that an outsider (mahito) has so much control over and responsibility of his people, rather than the parakeets taking care of themselves. but then he decides he'd rather destroy everything rather than rebuild? he does not wield his power responsibly here, and in the end he also has to escape. i feel like i'm barely scratching the surface of the potential commentary about this, and i definitely am not being precise enough with my wording. but it's not a very subtle allusion being made in the film haha
and then, the little stones! first, it's interesting that supposedly an entire world comes into being and continuously exists because of a couple pieces balancing on each other. perhaps more ironic that they resemble children's toys, simple shapes, but then are made out of the same material intended for tombstones. precariously stacked to make a new world, and they have to be rebalanced -- always shaped by someone's actions, not just something that stands on its own.
a whole mound/small island of them tainted with malice, and above them floats the ~divine~ stone, source of all power. mahito won't touch them, so the tower master searches through space to find pure ones. even stones untouched by malice cannot create a purely harmonious and peaceful world because the creator/master will always have some malice on their hands, some stain that makes them imperfect. he does have one piece with him when he returns to his original world -- sign of potential for building something new in the future, even if it's just in his own world? or is it just a momento of everything he experienced?
anyway. phew. how to end this. there are def some things i still don't understand fully - why natsuko was in the delivery room/why she felt like she had to have her baby in this world; what exactly made mahito decide to accept natsuko as his mother; the tomb behind the gate that said "those who seek my knowledge will die." there's probably more but i can't think of it right now. maybe an eventual rewatch in the future will unveil more for me! but i do think the mystery is part of the fun and part of the intention. it's hard to understand every facet of a dream.

AITA for leaving everyone behind on a dangerous Island ?
To make the story as short and concise as possible I, [ early20something M ] went, and set sail to an Island just off the border of the Ecclesia sea called The Faction Isles. It's whole schtick is to choose one of the 4 factions [Herons, Kestrels, Nightingales, and Kites] . Seems to be fine and dandy right? Make friends, go on adventures, sing some shanties, all that lavish stuff yada yada.
Well turns out, the Faction Isles we find out that it is essentially a food farm for a power hungry Cult Leader, and God. It's kind of the main reason on why several people went missing over the passing months..... because they got kidnapped. That being said I also got kidnapped once and saw so much people die in front of me [one of them being my best friend]. Oh forgot to mention someone released the horrors so that's that. So much happened that I cannot just summarize it down in one page but that's the gist of it.
After ... everything. I decided to just to, you know, leave, get the fuck out. Witnessing this much is really bad for the noggin, speaking from experience. So I brought my good friend, lets just call her L [f 20plussomething] and prepare to set sail. I mean it was a "wonderful" experience on the Isles I will admit , but it's high time to end this chapter of my life, besides The Isles are too much for my liking. Before I left though , I wanted to say goodbye to all my fellow pirates. The reception was ..... mixed. Some respected my decision , bid Adieu, and hope we meet again [we won't].
The others called me selfish for leaving "after all we went through you just leave blah blah blah myeh myeh" you get the idea.
It's been days since Me and L left the Isles. I think I made the right choice lest I be die a horrible death, but I still think about their words sometimes and it made me feel a tiny bit [a small regular amount] of guilt [just abit though]. But for the most part I almost regret nothing.
So AITA , for leaving everyone behind? I need to know.
Edit: So You may never guess, but I went back to the Isles. I just want to go back to see thing play out, nothing more, nothing less. I just heard that everyone, want to fight God, and I want to see that okay? Now if you guys don't get an update I'm probably most likely dead. [Oh yeah L is fine by the way she stopped by one of the towns far away from wherever I am]

Stefan dyes his hair within a day of the Heron's return.
Coal-black, just like Jesper's was.
Is! Just like Jesper's is! He's still alive, still alive, you hear me? Don't say he's dead! Don't you dare say Jesper's dead!
He socializes little and talks even less. His blue eyes are no longer sunlit heavens; they're tinged with gray, a brooding sky seconds away from a white streak of fury.
It rains almost every day in Hallasholm, now.
Stefan goes swimming every evening and stays out until midnight, summer or winter. It makes no difference whether he has to crack through the ice first.
Some say he's trying to find the boy he lost. Some say he's trying to drown himself.
The sea is kinder to him than it was to Jesper. The sea would never let Stefan drown.
Jesper didn't drown! He didn't! He's not dead!
He stays outside afterward, sitting on the dock, rivulets of water running from his clothes, his hair, his eyes.
He says he's not crying. He says he only cries for the dead.
He can't be dead! He just can't be!
The black dye from his hair stains his cheeks like war paint, but there's nothing to fight.
Stefan eventually stops searching the waters.
The day he does, the already turbulent seas become completely unforgiving.
The waves boil and scream and smash against the ports, damaging nearly every ship moored there and wrecking the rest, the swells pocked with the now-perpetual torrents of rain and sleet.
And then one day, the skies are cold and empty and silent.
So is Stefan's bed, save for a scribbled note.
It says he's gone to find Hulde's gates.
It says he's going to find Jesper, and bring him back, if he can.
But just in case, he signs off with a goodbye.

Creamy glitter glazes the air. Theoretically, they are birds, swooping and falling, soaring and dying, shot down by the hard cries of barbed arrows. Today, we are hunting. I am crouched in the bushes under cover of woods. Wildlife have been known to dive bomb their predators and peck out their eyes. I left the house forgetting to greet my mother goodbye.
Here, I narrow my eye and focus on her face. Many prefer the birds with their eyes intact, but I try to blind them with the first shot. Their hatred-filled stares make me want to claw off their vengeful mouths. You don’t ruin the merch like that.
You could almost mistake her for a vulture. That misshapen back, the widespread white wings, the black of her hair darting in silken clumps on the call of the gale.
She is the storm. We are the time that comes after. I lift my bow and fire, arrow flying loose like a heron skimming the water as it flies off.
I am not only small things. I find myself breathing in the blood that spurts strangely from her face, mimicking a vulture’s red eyes. Yes, I am not only small things. I am conquer, I am kill, I am guilt. There is a lump in my throat as I stand up, brushing my grass-stained pants off, thighs burning from kneeling so long.
I stand up and somewhere, I hear the crash of a body through the canopy of trees. Lifting my head to place the sound, I head towards the burial site without hurrying. There is no reason to. Blinded, who can run? If they can run,
they deserve to live. a small voice argues inside of me
they won’t be able to run far.

A review of The Boy and The Heron:
As I type this review, I am listening to the OST of the movie (just for inspo!) I believe the film was very confusing at first, and I really did find myself scratching my head throughout several points of the film. After watching a few analysis videos as well as doing some reflecting, I've come up with my review! I will not bore you with points borrowing from analysis since you may find those on your own, instead I will only write what is original to me.
There are a few key moments/storylines that stood out to me. One in particular was Mahito hitting his own head with the stone and later claiming that this scar was a sign of his malice. The way I saw it was that Mahito desired revenge on the boys that had bullied him. To exaggerate his injury and get his father to take action, he hits himself. Later he points to that scar and says "This is a sign of malice", when rejecting the offer of taking over that idealised world. Perhaps this is a representation of the fact that he is imperfect and must stay in an imperfect reality, rather the fantasty of the life below the tower.
Another is the old granny. She is portrayed as a young fisherwoman (?) when they are sent beneath the tower. She points out she has a similar scar to Mahito. Throughout, we notice that she has her own interests, her own work she attends to and a very vivid personality. It makes me feel as if all 8 of those grannies were not just nobodies, and that they themselves had all lead fascinating lifes at some point, hinting to me that perhaps the message is that everyone has their own story.
Speaking of the fantasy world, I believe the area beneath the tower represents the vast sea of Mahito's thoughts and desires: for his mother to be alive (Princess Himi), for all the dead to have a chance to be reborn (the Warawara), for a world he may have some semblance of control over (by inheriting the world). Yet these parakeets relentlessly disrupt his world, with the king parakeet destroying it in the end. Perhaps the parakeets represent the sheer relentlessness of reality. They trade in his mother to the king (similar to how his mother had died), they try to kill him and eat him alive (just like the war did), and there are aa never-ending hoard of them (the relentless nature of reality).
On the whole the movie to me seems to represent Mahito's journey to overcome the trauma the war may have given him. The film is sprinkled with bits of humor throughout, similar to how a person may occasionally find respite in little funny moments, but immediately returns back to a very solemn mood afterwards. It's very chaotic and abstract, probably owing to the fact it's so difficult to describe the grief one feels from war in a simple, linear fashion sense.
Throughout the film, he seems to mature and overcome these emotions. Rejecting taking over the ideal world, saying goodbye to his mother (Himi), and even so much as calling The Heron a friend. Which by the way, The Heron to me seems to represent his memories/feelings/sentiments/his connection to the war. The Heron leads him to the tower, similar to how memories can lead you down the path of negative thoughts and emotions. He hates these memories, and wishes to erase them (he wanted to kill the Heron with a bow). Towards the end of the film, he seems to accept these memories and recognises they cannot be denied if he wishes to move on and exist in this reality. This is shown when he calls The Heron "a friend".
Overall! The film was very pretty, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it visually at least. Freaky scenes like when the frogs crawling over Mahito made me feel squirmish, while wondrous scenes filled with mystery like when Mahito approached that golden gate made me curious. The movie wasn't sad nor would I say the characters in particular were very memorable. But it was unforgettable at least.

Will you marry me?
A small fanfiction about the famous blue hedgehog Sonic and the equally famous pink hedgehog Amy Rose. It is based on the Russian folk tale "The Crane and the Heron".
Sonic is the most famous blue super—fast hedgehog in the whole wide world, who is ready to protect the weak and fight various villains in order to save the whole world. And for several years, he fought with his worst enemy, Dr. Eggman, as well as many other villains and bad guys. And when peace and quiet finally came, and Eggman retired, the hedgehog thought about his personal life. His best friends, Tails and Knuckles, had already married and had their own children, and he was all alone… And that's why Sonic decided to start a family too!
"I think Amy would be a wonderful wife." She's a pretty good girl and friend. However, a few years earlier, she pestered me with her obsessive love… But then she was a girl and I was a teenager, and now we've both grown up, so we can get married. I hope that she still loves me if I'm going to propose to her … — the hedgehog thought about it and, before going to a friend, combed his needles, polished his sneakers to shine, attached a flower to his bandana, prepared a beautiful bouquet with pink roses, and then ran to the pink hedgehog's house. He knocked on the door.
— Who's there? Her voice was soon heard.
—It's me, Amy, Sonic,— he replied. — I came to tell you something important.
Amy opened the door and stepped out onto the threshold. She was slightly surprised to see Sonic with a bouquet of flowers. And the hedgehog himself got down on one knee and held out a bouquet.
"Amy, I realized that my life is boring without you right now, and therefore I would like to ask…" he began and then smiled at the girl. "Will you marry me?"
— No.
Sonic fell into a stupor from this answer.
— W-why? .. He asked her in a trembling voice.
— Yes, because you're a fool, Sonic! I've been chasing you for so many years, and you… You've denied me love so many times! And I'm just tired of being treated like this, so I don't want to have anything to do with you! Goodbye! With these words, the hedgehog slammed the door in the hedgehog's face.
Sonic remained on his knee for several minutes, in shock. The roses in the bouquet had already withered after the girl's abrupt refusal. And then, a few minutes later, the hedgehog came to his senses and sauntered home.
Meanwhile, in the house, Amy thought: "Oh, it seems that I was too rude to Sonic… After all, he kind of fell in love with me at last, came to me with flowers, and I…" — the hedgehog was sad, and then said resolutely to herself:
— I have to go and apologize to Sonic! After all, I have loved him since childhood! And now I love him! And I dreamed of becoming his wife! We must not miss such a chance! — now it's the girl's turn to dress up: she put on red beads, a pretty ribbon with flowers, a new red and white dress - and then she left the house and went to Sonic.
The hedgehog, in turn, was watching TV, trying to somehow entertain himself and cheer himself up after Amy's refusal. Suddenly he heard a knock on the door. Sonic got up from the sofa and went out on the threshold, the not unknown Miss Rose stood in front of him with a slightly guilty look.
— Sonic, please forgive me for my behavior… In general, I thought about it and decided to agree to become your wife…" she said and looked hopefully at Sonic, expecting to hear: "Of course, Amy, I forgive you! I am so glad that you have agreed to become my wife!" But she heard the opposite:
"You know, Amy, I don't feel like getting married anymore. And maybe it's for the best that we're not together? After all, you used to annoy me so much with your love for me when I was fighting enemies. So go away, Amy," and Sonic closed the door. Amy started crying and went home, and under a sudden rush of rain, which was just right for the sad mood of the hedgehog.
And Sonic was suddenly horrified to himself: "What a fool I am! Why did I refuse her when I decided to start a family and end my loneliness? I have to go and apologize and propose to her again!"
Sonic ran to Amy a few minutes later, despite the rain, and knocked on her door, a girl with tear-stained eyes came out to meet him.
"Amy, I'm sorry I sent you away. I've been such a jerk to you. Please forgive me and… marry me…" he cast a pleading glance at her, but she frowned and answered him:
— No, Sonic, I can't forgive you for being so rude! Besides, if you're asking me to get married, where's the engagement ring? And you know what else, Sonic? You're a goat, not a hedgehog! Now get out of here! — and she closed up, and the hedgehog, dejected, wandered to his room. Later, Amy came to Sonic again to ask for forgiveness, and he drove her away again. But after only a few minutes, he once again remembered how bad it was to live alone, and therefore, taking the ring (This is one of the golden rings that Sonic collects in games.), he ran to the girl. But she refused again and threw the guy out.
And more than a dozen times the hedgehogs ran to each other, asking for forgiveness and offering a life together. But Sonic got tired of it one day, so he gave up trying to marry Amy. But after some time, he met another girl with whom he began a romantic relationship, and after realizing that they loved each other, the hedgehog still made a marriage proposal to the new chosen one, and she agreed. And Sonic finally had a family with whom he was very happy.…
And as for Amy, they say she was left alone to shed tears "over a broken trough"…

Well aren't you a little... destructive
Ever wondered how everything looks like from the eyes of a background character?
Tumblr media
You were a cycrane, and unfortunately because of this, your life was very, very dull. Your will to be productive in any way drained just days after you were created… which is why many call you the “lazy cycrane”.
You didn’t really mind though, you never really had much to do either way.
On this particular day, however, you had quite a lot to do. It was a busy day. To your misfortune.
You’d just arrived to your destination with the final order… for now… you weren’t alone, however. There was a lady here, she was on her phone probably messaging someone.
When she got off the phone, she noticed you and walked over to you.
“Shouldn’t you be working?” She asked you.
“I just finished delivering everything”
“Oh! So you’re taking a break?”
“Yes”
“That’s nice, enjoy your break”
And with that… she went towards a vase to your right. She smashed it. With a baseball bat. You felt startled, though your body didn’t react, you were only built for delivery after all. You didn’t really have any emotions.
She went towards another vase, this time to your left. Those poor vases… what did they ever do to her? You wondered if she got anything out of destruction of property.
Eventually, you got a signal that there was more stock to be delivered, by now the woman had left the vicinity and had moved on.
You flew back to your collection point, taking the stock and flying to a different point.
During your flight, you looked down at the ground at some point and what do you know! You saw that same woman again destroying even more vases! You wondered if she was taking out her anger on them or if she was doing it just for fun.
You pondered this for a little while before arriving to your destination and leaving the stock. You stayed perched there, resisting the very overwhelming urge to return to your pick-up point as there was another order to deliver.
You didn’t want to. simply because you felt tired, overworked, burnt-out! You stayed in place in a half-turned off state, simply looking at the blue sky. You didn’t really know what was happening around you until your mode got reset.
You looked at the person who came to your ‘rescue’, it was the destructive woman.
“It’s you again” you said to her, upset she reset you. You wondered if she worked for Heron Express, although you haven’t seen her before. A new hire maybe?
“You’re the cycrane from earlier.” She replied
“Yes”
“Why are you here? You have orders to deliver”
“I know …. I don’t want to”
“Why?”
“I’m tired”
“You really should get back to work, what if they dismantle you and change your ai?”
“Then I’ll be a different cycrane entirely” you didn’t really mind the idea. Having your ai changed. It was like being reborn with a different personality, if you could get away from all your negative feelings about work, then you’d accept the change with open arms… or should I say wings?
“You’re really destructive, you know” you added to your prior sentence after a short silence
“I am on the path of destruction”
“Well that’s fitting. I should be going now, goodbye”
“Bye”
And with that… you flew off, looking back once more. Internally, you sighed, now you had even more work to deal with… you really needed to stop putting off work… word count: 577
