I will never understand the fanfic impulse to take characters with thee most coo coo bananas codependent/nuanced/toxic/insane relationship and turn them into love interests #1 and #2 in a generic romance novel. like what is even the point anymore

#i don't just mean 'bad' relationships that they're trying to romanticize or sanitize; this happens all the time with 'good' relationships #with some funk or flavor to them where they sand off all of the things that actually make them interesting and compelling #and you're just left with this bland ball of nothing like they're generic couple no. 4 in a clothing ad #like girl why are you even here then?? what was the appeal for you that made you want to write about these people in the first place???#you've taken all the flavor out???#it always reminds me of that one screenshot someone took of a tag on a succession fic that was like 'logan is a good dad au' and its like #okay well why are we here then? like that changes so much about the characters and the story (and also like the entire point #the show is making about power and abuse) that you might as well write about literally anyone/anything else bc you're sure as shit #not writing about these characters anymore #and like. there's nothing wrong with enjoying bland or formulaic romance i'm not gonna find you and come to your house #but if that's what you're into then why do you even like these people???#to be clear i don't mean 'take them and place them neroses and all into a suburban home to watch them chew the wallpaper and #confuse their neighbors' that's completely different

#oc #oc:robin #and i need to draw more in general #this week has been CRAZY #beside going to work i was also going to my parents to switch my mom in taking care of my grandma #who has to lay in bed 24/7 after she broke [idk how it's in english and i don't want to google it right now]#on top of everything my whole apartment is a mess because i found bedbugs on monday #so everything went to the washing machine #and i disassembled my bed and had to look and clean everywhere/everything #besides two bugs (one adult and one larva) I didn't find a nest #so it's either good or bad idk #good that there's no nest or bad that there is one but hidden very well #(mind you i checked even behind wallpaper)#(my whole bedroom was empty for 4 days)#(i even borrowed a pressure washer from my neighbor a #and used it on any small slit/gap/idk which one #where the bugs could hide)#it's been crazy #tomorrow I'll be building a new pc on top of everything #so fingers crossed that i'll have a working pc after that...#sorry you had to read it

I'm curious. What concept SHINee has done that you find the most interesting, the most well done, and the one that had potential but missed at execution?

hm! potential but missed at execution is DEFINITELY dcm, there was SO much promise in those first set of fake reality promo photos that was pushed aside for appropriative 4th gen nonsense that was not at all necessary. i don't really know what happened with the creative team there and why they got cold conceptual feet, but i'm very sad that they never pushed thru for the full twin peaks-y fake suburbia theme.

most well done? tie between odd and 10f1. both of them were SO influential to the industry that we're still very visibly seeing the effects of them almost a decade later. personally i would put 1of1 slightly farther ahead of odd just because the styling for 1of1 is one of THE best stylings of all time in the history of kpop, and they damn well knew it. i love odd + view so so deeply but its legacy has been a .....worsening of stylings over the last eight years bc it made companies realize they could just put idols in normal clothes and stop investing so much in costuming.

most interesting? hands down tsol. it's so rare to see such a beautiful monument of grief and love so thoughtfully executed. i've talked at length before about the choreographies from this era and how incredible they are, but the cohesiveness of the full album and its aesthetics of nostalgia and examination of their legacy as a group and how they set an optimistic tone for the future is so so so fascinating. i rewatch the tsol mvs (good evening/i want you/countless, not our page bc it makes sob uncontrollably) more than any other shinee mvs because there's endless ways to unpack them and the inherent dichotomy of deep personal grief and having to pretend to be a veneer of yourself as your job adds such a compelling layer to them.

#i love tsol so goddamn much. i know it's a controversial take amongst fans but i do think it one of/if not their best album #in terms of most complete work #i also love art about grief #shinee #shinee w #text #answers #my second answer for missed potential is some of their early eras pre sherlock like replay or even lucifer #it was a different era of kpop and i think they were good for their time #but it would be fun to take a crack at them from a contemporary perspective #so not really missed potential more of a.....would do over. just for funsies. if that makes sense #the fake reality concept photos changed my brain chemistry #taemin's one with the flaming billboard has been my phone wallpaper ever since it came out no joke #not my lockscreen tho. my lockscreen is a stupid selfie of me n my bestie bc i miss him :((

One more day. I think with one more day I can finally finish chapter 5 of slaughterhouse for real this time. There are literally only three lines left that need fixing. SURELY I can nail those down in 24 hours or so

i love how i started taking the pill bc my periods were so bad physically and the pill just went 'no more cramps! mentally we're putting you in a blender tho'

#idk why but for my past three periods and maybe even longer and i just wasn't noting it bc 1) i dont actually get periods anymore #so i can only realise it's my time of the month bc people around me have synced and/or emotionally im such a shitshow that is has to be #and 2) it's only now im seeing a pattern and earlier cases might have just seemed like one offs #but for at LEAST the past three ive been like. fucking manic every time and im not using that word lightly i know it gets chucked about #way too easily but truly i dont know any other word that would describe the way i get and how extreme it is #like i literally dissociate from myself and im detached from my emotions on a good day as we know bc of that long as fuck post just now #so it's EXTRA detrimental when it's increased like this and i just. i dont know how to even explain it #i just lose my SHIT and not in the mainstream mentally ill way that's become palatable and desired #i mean in actual weird and concerning ways and im just like. unqualified and scared and dealing with it by myself #bc people dont talk about this shit anyway and i dont talk about ANYTHING i dont know HOW to even if i wanted to #im truly very sorry for all this i promise it's just my period el oh el #hysterical woman moment! nurse lock her in the room with the yellow wallpaper NOW #hella goes home

Before I started compiling them I was convinced that it was mostly gonna be angst again, but honestly? I think this might have the highest amount of happy songs (4/7) I’ve recced you so far lmao

1. Mercury

→ we’re still gonna start with the angst tho

→ at first I was gonna say this feels a lot like anthony post leaving smosh…

but honestly?

I really feel like it fits both of them pretty well during that time

→ literally their journey through the years

#my art #digital art #melon rambles #had a conversation with a friend recently #and I don't remember the exact figure of speech but he always talks about problems rolling off his back like water off a duck #and I was upset about some people at college and also just life in general #and we had a good conversation about it and then he reminded me to 'be the duck' so I don't go insane from stress #and I was like you know what sir you have a good point #so I painted this while finishing up some assigned readings for my class and have it as a wallpaper to remind myself #it's been so long since I've really sunk myself into the painting process I really enjoyed it #I was trying to think of symbolism and color theory and framing even though it's a silly duck painting
