Goblin Matron 7th edition
I’ve been playing a goblin deck lately and it’s so much fun! When I came across this 7th edition of Goblin Matron I had draw it, it’s so silly. What is that outfit??

Y'know when Minthara said "I came to Moonrise with a retinue of warriors and assassin - the best House Baenre had to offer." it really sounds like the Baenre sent her out to lead a full-force surface raid to take the (filthy surface dwellers who dared to preach not of Lolth in Menzoberranzan) cult of the Absolute down.
Such resources and task are not to be taken lightly as it is done in the name of Lolth... And then she fucks it all up. Not only did Moonrise stand but also all of her men are either dead or converted.
Her entire life got turned upside down. From an esteemed commander who led such campaign to being forsaken by her one and only goddess, the ever-present presence in every Underdark drow's life - Lolth. Her Matron's wrath is certain, she cannot go home, plus the threat of the shapeshifting Orin dials up the paranoia to a 10. She's between a rock and a hard place.
So when I read about people saying Minthara's really nice for a drow I mean... She basically lost everything and is probably at one of the lowest points in her life. And if you romanced her at the goblin party, for a moment, suddenly it was fine. Her mind was clear again, her lover's embrace was a safe haven. Conquered the grove, the first win in days. Tav was the only good thing happened to her so far since she set foot on the strange world of the surface. The only friend and trusted ally (and lover) she's got. Company that well deserve civil conversations and more.
She knows how she's perceived: drow, not trustworthy, not "good"; a woman stripped of all her noble titles - an exile - you're better off marrying the Duke's son than her (she tells Tav this if you break up with her for Wyll).
Drow uses one another to fulfil their ambitions, then discards of their allies like they were nothing. And yet, you - a stranger who has all the reason not to trust her, keep her safe, near, promise and deliver the promise of vengeance for her - killing Orin. You don't have to promise her anything, yet you deliver.
The kind of security and certainty Tav (as both a friend and a lover) gives her is probably nothing she has ever experienced during her entire life in the Underdark. Being the intense and insane person she is, giving her 1000% in terms of dedication and loyalty to Tav is honestly fitting in my opinion.
Take in the fact that she was abandoned by two gods at this point (Lolth and the Absolute - albeit a false one), perhaps subconsciously giving her all was to not being abandoned again.
And that makes turning her away after learning that she was brainwashed by the Absolute, one of the cruellest decisions one can make in game.
Simply flat out killing her like any other enemies, not knowing that she was a woman brainwashed and lost everything puts her up there as one of the more tragic characters in game.

Technically speaking I assume Halsin doesn’t join your party while exploring the Underdark because he wasn’t originally a permanent companion. So it’s probably just a left over mechanic from that. However, I like to headcanon that he prefers to stay in camp because he’s secretly afraid of venturing back into the Underdark.
And I don’t mean it in a “oh he’s afraid of the dark or afraid of fighting what’s lurking down there”, but I mean it in a way that’s relating to his trauma in the Underdark. Because at that point we’ve seen him fight against goblins and, depending on your choice to bring him along, against the goblin leaders. He’s mentioned that he’ll kill when necessary, it’s just not the preferable choice. And when you get to the shadow curse, sure he’s not exactly happy about venturing into darkness and shadows, but it doesn’t keep him from walking head first into the Shadowfell portal to find Thaniel or going with you to fine Oliver.
But I like to think that he doesn’t join you while adventuring out in the Underdark because that’s the one thing that’s actually terrifying to him. He makes the comment that he doesn’t know what happened to the Matron and Patron of the house that kept him captive when he tells you about his history with the area. So really for all he knows, and really for the player, they could potentially still be somewhere in the Underdark. Like they could have somehow survived the attack and retreated to the shadows. And even if they’re not and they are truly dead, who’s to say there isn’t the possibility he could be recaptured and start the cycle all over again. And I could see this being heightened considering he was just freed from a goblin camp.
An offhand comment with the drow siblings in Act 3 hints that Halsin is well known in the Underdark as being able to turn into a bear. And given just how busy he was with the Grove he surely didn’t have time to return to the Underdark to explore and show to the residents there that he can wildshape. And I very seriously doubt he goes to Baldur’s Gate and do the same thing. So, like others have mentioned, I like to assume he got that reputation while being captive and his captors would brag to others that they have a surface dweller that can turn into another creature. It makes him unique and an oddity. And could make him being seen as something to collect now that his previous “owners” are gone in some way. He could be seen as a target if he were to go back. I’d like to think it’s a very real fear that he could have.
And yes, he will go into the Underdark when you make camp because you can see and interact with him, but he won’t join your party to go out and explore. So with my headcanon that he’s afraid to return there, I also like to think that he agrees to go into the Underdark but won’t go out because he feels safe at camp. Not everyone goes out with the player as they do their thing in the Underdark, given that you can only have 4 members at a time, so it leaves at least 3 camp members with him at all times. There’s people there that can fight with him if it comes to it.
So even by going into the Underdark, he’s not alone like he was last time. So in the event someone does try to stop by and scoop him back into captivity, either his previous captors or someone completely different, he has allies there with him and who will protect him. Not because he can’t protect himself, but someone that would fight to keep him from being captured again. He’s in an unsafe and potentially triggering space, but at least in the camp he’s safe.
And yes, he is the one who brought up the Underdark to begin with, but he does give an alternative route to the player and even admits that the Underdark, while dangerous, is the preferable route.
And I know he still won’t join the party until after Thaniel has been plucked from the Shadowfell, but he sets off to Thaniel almost immediately once you get to the shadow lands and won’t join until he knows he’s safe. So with that he’s all of a sudden “in the field” instead of just hanging around camp, I just like to think it’s because he’s out of a bad area and can focus on what’s important.
I’ve probably put WAY too much thought into this, but it’s just my own little headcanon for Halsin staying in your camp for the remainder of Act 1.

Drow Language 🕷️ Glossary from Drow of the Underdark (2e)
Tumblr media
Drow glossary from Drow of the Underdark (E. Greenwood, 1991), a supplemental rules book for use with AD&D (2e). Around two hundred canon words that allow to create simple sentences, messages and the like.
I organized the terms from the glossary into categories, so that the range of topics and the variety of vocabulary for each of them could be seen more clearly. Unsurprisingly, categories with the most words are connected to dealing with people, stealth and fight, travel and exploration, also magic and spirituality.

usstan – I, self (literally, "this one") usstil – one in my place dos – you dosst – yours dosstan – yourself nind – they, them, their, theirs* nindyn – those vel’uss – who

I feel like since all I have posted lately is "aww astarion" content with Tav'Lyn I am doing her a disservice lmao ( I like watching my faves kiss, alright?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some facts about her:
225 years old. Her mother was the matron mother of House Faen Tlabbar which is known for their fantacism to Lolth.
Has led drow surface raids before. Yeah, Minthy ain't the only war criminal in the party.
She was at the doomed drow invasion of Mithril Hall as a young cleric (She was sent because she was less experienced AKA more expendable than the others)
She really loves lizard riding!
She knows Drow, Drow Sign, Goblin, Undercommon, Common, Elvish (Common and Elvish are new languages to her but close enough to others she knows), and Abyssal!
New to Eilistraee worship.
"Fake it til you make it" is her motto in Act 1.
At the beginning of the game, she doesn't really give two flying fucks about her companions, the tieflings, or any of it. She just wants the tadpole out. But she pretends she cares because she knows the other Eilistraeen priestesses would and she is trying to emulate them.😅This guides a lot of her early game decisions.

SIDE-QUEST: THE NIGHT WARDEN.
or, the one where claire attempts to expand upon a lacklustre arc and side quest while incorporating the current state of the underdark and drow politics into the game and minthara's storyline.
i will note that in my canon minthara can be recruited in 'good' or 'evil' runs without sacrificing the grove. after realising that minthara is being controlled by orin, the player may make two persuasion checks with the artifact to disrupt orin's influence upon her and get the opportunity to knock her out with the intent of coming back for her after slaughtering the camp. however, by the time the party returns to her base in the goblin camp, minthara has gone back to moonrise to get more support - recruitment then proceeds as normal. this is written as it might appear within the player's journal. it has no set conclusion - as that will be another post regarding her fate at the end of the campaign.
CONTINUE TO TRAVEL WITH MINTHARA.
we recruited the night warden, minthara baenre, after rescuing her from the prisons of moonrise tower where we prevented her mind from being wiped. she seemed grateful for our help, and pledged her sword to our cause in order to destroy the absolute.
while exploring rethwin town, we encountered drow scouts - assassins? they became hostile immediately after glimpsing minthara. after killing them, she offered little explanation - stating her defection from lolth would be enough to kill her on sight in addition to the loss of her entire retinue. minthara seems uncomfortable with lingering here - we should press on.
as we continued exploring the shadow cursed lands, we discovered evidence of drow parties moving through, setting minthara on edge. we eventually found correspondence indicating these lolthite cultists are attempting to infiltrate the towers, where many drow have gone missing. minthara's name and retinue was listed here as well. minthara has asked us to help her find this small corps of scouts and their location - claiming if word gets back to them or they find her, she will be hunted for the rest of her days.
>IF SCOUTS ARE FOUND (WITH MINTHARA)
we found the scouts! minthara was insistent we kill them - we tried to talk to them, but minthara's presence made them hostile at once - we had no choice but to clear the hide-out. we found more correspondence indicating that it seemed a large portion of drow 'recruits' to the absolute came from small splinter groups from a larger group of menzoberranzan refugees. we also found letters containing orders from matron mother sos'umptu baenre. when asking minthara about this, she had no knowledge of any refugees from her city - and she refuses to answer anything regarding sos'umptu baenre.
>IF SCOUTS ARE FOUND (WITHOUT MINTHARA)
we found the scouts! they quickly proved to be a less than friendly bunch - and tensions rose - they keep their information guarded. we managed to steal correspondence indicating that it seemed a large portion of drow 'recruits' to the absolute came from small splinter groups from a larger group of menzoberranzan refugees. when asking minthara about this, she had no knowledge of any refugees from her city. minthara disapproves of our meeting them without her.
> IF SCOUTS ARE NOT FOUND
the scouts came upon our camp in the night and attacked us - claiming we are travelling with a heretic and deserter. we killed them; but minthara did not allow the last man standing the mercy of a swift death. we persuaded him to tell us why the drow were in the shadow cursed lands - he revealed they were baenre scouts and assassins working on behalf of matron mother sos'umptu; hunting refugees who left menzoberranzan. without warning, minthara killed him! she said it would be better for all of us if he were dead. it seems that minthara has no knowledge of any refugee groups from menzoberranzan, and while she did not speak on sos'umptu, it seemed as though she was shocked by this.
CONTINUE TO TRAVEL WITH MINTHARA.
we killed ketheric thorm and took his netherstone. minthara was grateful for this gift of vengeance, but stated we had more to do before it was fully done. minthara also spoke in depth about what happened to her at moonrise, and what orin did to her and her men.
we continued onwards to baldur's gate with minthara. once there, it was revealed that orin has been watching us since we came to rivington! minthara is trying not to show that she is afraid, but we can see it. she asked me to promise her that she would never fall into orin's clutches again. i promised her.
after finding our way into the lower city, we began to explore to find more information on the recent string of murders and the cult of bhaal. after finding a ritual circle filled with drow in the basement of a house, we left - only to be attacked by drow assassins in the street! they were wearing the same crest minthara has on her neck, so they must be baenre assassins. as we were fighting, another drow jumped into the fray to assist us - he is an excellent fighter, but is dressed in a rather eccentric manner.
SWORD OF MENZOBERRANZAN.
minthara addressed him as uncle! they both seemed surprised to see each other in baldur's gate; and while minthara did not sheathe her weapons, she did not attack either. his name is jarlaxe baenre - given that minthara has not killed him, that seems like a good sign. jarlaxe said they've much to discuss; and that he did not expect to see her again with all the rumours of the absolute and its cult. he has asked minthara to meet him in the evening at an abandoned house at the docks, as he suspects she has questions.
we left camp at night to meet with minthara's uncle. she warned us not to trust him. upon entering the abandoned house, jarlaxe is not alone - two others are with him, a man and a woman. minthara went for her weapons, but jarlaxe stopped her! with him are minthara's aunt and other uncle - quenthel and gromph. it was a tense meeting for us all; but it seems there is much going on. jarlaxe, gromph, and quenthel explain that in the two years since minthara's disappearance, a schism erupted in menzoberranzan, stemming from a 'lie of lolth' and quenthel's disobedience. civil war broke out; 3,000 dead, another 3,000 exiled - never to return, only to be hunted down like dogs. what's more, a cousin named yvonnel has been banished to the abyss - and minthara's mother, sos'umptu, after hosting lolth's avatar and becoming one of her chosen, had become matron mother to house baenre and now sat the throne of menzoberranzan. though the drow say they know she must destroy the absolute, they would have her aid afterwards - asking if she will help them free menzoberranzan from the shackles of lolth and sos'umptu.
minthara has asked for some time to reflect on all that has happened and all that she has learnt and missed.
minthara has told us more of her childhood and mother - and wonders just how long her mother has been planning this. she wishes to pledge herself to ridding menzoberranzan of lolth with her family members and their allies - but also wishes to take the city for herself once she kills her mother and unseats her from the jewelled throne.
>IF THE PLAYER CONVINCES HER NOT TO AID HER FAMILY ( persuasion check, 30. wisdom check, 25. intimidation check, 40 ).
minthara agrees with us that there might be nothing left for her within menzoberranzan; and that her family cannot be trusted. this action will have consequences.
>IF THE PLAYER AGREES MINTHARA SHOULD AID HER FAMILY
minthara has asked us to come with her when the fight is over, and provide our own skills in freeing menzoberranzan - though she suspects it will be a long, long road before they even set foot into the caves of the underdark.
THE QUEST CONCLUDES HERE, for now.

Born into the cruel society of the Drow in the Underdark, Voradras did his best to fit in. From a young age, and spurred on by cautionary tales of the fate of those who left to become renegades, he knew that his heart wasn't in the endless tunnels of this lightless world, but the surface above. He followed every order for his own safety, though there was always an air of disobedience about him, much to the disdain of his Matron Mother.
After graduation, he spent some time patrolling the tunnels before finally setting the escape he had planned for years, into motion.
As one last show of his disdain for Lolth, he stole his familie's ceremonial dagger from the chapel and chopped off his long hair. Grabbing only the necessities like his piwafwi and rapier, he wandered along the tunnels for many months, finally emerging onto the surface in a cave near Neverwinter Wood.
After being turned away from every place he approached, and hunted by some, his saving grace was a strange and eccentric kenku druid called Magpie Cackle, who took him in and they became fast friends.
After taking on a quest in Neverwinter by the dwarf Gundren Rockseeker, they teamed up with the Aasimar Nephilim, Tabaxi Sunset and Woodelf Lisa, the group quickly becoming tightly knit on their way to Phandelver. Facing no prejudice from them, for the first time in his life Voradras felt content, he knew he could call this group his best friends.
After many shenanigans, including Lisa and Voradras losing their lives for a short while as they fought a vicious green dragon, they finished their quest to free Wave Echo Cave for the dwarves.
Life seemed well for them afterwards, everyone going about their own ways, though they all stayed in contact, . Voradras became a sellsword wandering about the wilderness as he wanted, together with someone he cared about a lot.
A handful of years later though, everything was turned upside down by a traumatic event involving his kin, and his subsequent kidnapping by the Nautiloid.
Worried by their friend's sudden disappearance, the group made it their task to find their lost drow friend again. Following the tracks all the way down to Baldur's Gate.

Feel free to ignore this as even I think it might be a bit silly but I saw you would prefer sfw instead of nsfw... and honestly I am not a very creative person so its the type of to sweet fluff I usually keep in my head.
Post final battle
-Shadowheart- (Sorry but she is the absolute best girl)
Noble Tav background who does not care much for family riches but still after the events absolutely insists in building Shadowheart their home. Shadowheart reluctantly allows it, maybe even annoyed that its taking forever and Tav is hardly ever around. How long would a normal small cottage right? Thats what Tav promised. Turns out when Tav finally proudly presents their new home.. she built them an actual small mansion. Bc you know Tav has unrealistic views on what is small/big or a normal gesture/grand gesture of affection/commitment. But finally in her life actually feels rich with Shadowheart at her side.
- Minthara -
is a bit difficult because im not sure on if she is allowed back into Menzoberanzan? If could do the same of above or maybe instead offer to take the Baerne house back by force?
Like I said feel free to ignore it, if it is to silly or just one or the other.
-undecided anon
You're bold for telling the person who assigned each bg3 companion a Minessota competition flag that something is too silly.
It's not silly anon, it's beautiful and wholesome. My first ever Tav had a noble background and I used to fantasise about this too.
Especially the Shadowheart one because we ourselves get to go into her destroyed village and see the broken homes and the rubble. We get to read the diaries and books of all the people who immediately had to leave their homes.
Imagine Shadowheart's family who finally reunited after so long, you wouldn't want to burden them with having to figure out where to live or where to go.
Like that village probably was a human one, and I doubt her father is welcome back into his elf grove after having a half-elf child. Not to mention her mother doesn't have much time alive.
Noble Tav that fully funds the rebuilding of the village, fixing the windmill and securing the nearby settlements from any goblin or intruders. Fully giving Shadowheart's parents their old homes back.
Also it's just a theory but do you think her father is the blacksmith? The one who invented the sussur tree weapon recipe? Elves and smithry tend to go hand in hand sometimes and the fact you can only enchant daggers, sickles and swords aka weapons that elves commonly use, make me suspect it more.
Not just for Shadowheart but for all families that suffered during the invasion of their village. Shadowheart would probably tear up from joy at being back at her childhood home alongside her parents even if she can't remember it.
For Minthara, I don't think she is allowed back in the underdark.
I mean she can still go there, no one will stop her. But the assassination attempts will skyrocket tenfolds. House Baerne is the last ever house you get to insult and live to tell the tale like she did.
She does want to establish a new house eventually and take revenge on her old house, kill them before they kill you type of situation.
I'd imagine a noble Tav being her patron for all of this, using their absurd amount of wealth and the weight their family name holds to establish a very stronghold in the underdark.
Minthara being the Matriarch of that house, having Tav sitting all pretty on her lap in the throne room. The founder of the this new drow house and one of the most influencal and richest nobles being absolutely smitten with this one drow women. Obediently laying on her lap as she keeps a possessive hold on them. The closest thing a drow Matron ever got to marriage.
Funding all her princess needs and personal army while being spoiled by her lips and possessive words by night. Giving her all the power she could ever need and more.
also as a last one, i still take nsfw requests! So please don't worry about it or feel reluctant if you want to send nsfw stuff. I never write anything I don't want to write.
The themes in my work change a lot, sometimes I prefer writing nsfw while other times sfw. I still like both by the end of the day, think of it like the current trending page in my brain.

New “budget” Commander cards: Lord of the Rings: Red
You know these by now, we'll go color by color, mixing main set and commander set. Reprints can be included if they brought the price down under our bar. All the cards presented here are under $2 at time of writing. Cards will be evaluated as part of the 99, even legendary creatures.

Guttersnipe is a pretty great card for spellslinger decks, making the table's life totals melt very, very fast. This is a second Guttersnipe that's more resilient because it's one of the hardest types to remove instead of the easiest one. Also the ring tempts you. If you're running Guttersnipe, this is basically an auto-include in addition to it.
Tumblr media
We have infinite versions of this card and effect. This is a worse Firebrand Archer. Decks that want to ping as much as possible all the time might still want another copy.
Tumblr media
This is a sweet card. Insurrection is a pretty boring but effective way to end a game, but getting one that's much less game-ending on five is sweet. You only take one opponent's creatures and you're not killing the entire table... Though you'll have to make sure the newfound "ally" you just volunteered into helping you can't turn around and murder you after you cleaned the rest of the table with their board, which is very real and will happen, particularly if the players you kill spite you by not blocking the stolen creatures to kill them.
So the optimal line most of the time will be calling someone else for aid and making them do all the work with their creatures while your own stand back twiddling their thumbs to be ready to block once they turn on you. This reminds me of so many school group projects.
Tumblr media
This is the best Krenko's Command or Dragon Fodder ever printed, making hasty tokens (and sharing the haste with other humans). As long as the goblin creature type doesn't matter for your deck, if you're playing any of those two you'll want to replace it with this one, it's a simple upgrade, or likely run all three. Balmor, Zada,... Many homes for this enabler.
Tumblr media
For one more mana on a Fork, you get to copy an entire stack at once. You don't even have to control the spell, so this can do silly stuff. With that said, it's probably more of a fun card than an optimal card, storm decks will prefer going with a Bonus Round early and there isn't that often that many instants and sorceries on the stack. It will create some awesome moments and stories around the commander table though, and that's the important part, I'd play this over a Fork even if the one extra mana is huge on that kind of spell, just for the stories.
Tumblr media
This is a Starter Kit card, and it's not all that spicy or efficient at anything. With that said, being a mana sink that generates card draw is pretty great on the back of a subpar removal. If you can generate lots of (or infinite) mana and don't always know what to do with it, including this as a bad removal will randomly help you at points in ways a more efficient or classic removal wouldn't.
Tumblr media
Generating two Treasures every turn is pretty good for a 3-drop if you can get it consistently, and double strike is powerful in general if you have buffs around. With that said, Gimli will need a way to be buffed, either through his own ability with other legendary creatures or through equipments or auras, and he'd also really like some evasion. Ultimately, the payoff ain't that great, so I wouldn't warp my deck to play him, but if there's already the pieces for it, he's gonna do work.
Tumblr media
Just like Gimli, doubling up on value combat triggers for cheap with double strike, by itself it'll have a hard time getting in, though this one instead of bringing a way to buff itself, it extends the effect to all your Goblins, which makes it a pretty great option for typal Goblin decks, and certainly a tutor option for Matrons and Harbingers. If you're playing goblins, you have one you can cut for this, surely. If you're not playing goblins, consider it like Gimli, if you already have ways to buff it or make it evasive.
Tumblr media
Fervor sees play in 30,000 decks according to EDHRec. This is a strictly better Fervor. All commander decks have at least one legend. Haste is good. This is a good card.
Tumblr media
If you got enough artifacts or legends to trigger this every turn, it'll be... Alright. A treasure per turn isn't a ton, and you're unlikely to be able to cast them during opposing turns in red, but it's playable. The ability to Goad at instant speed for free is pretty great though, it makes him able to redirect surprise voltron or combo-y attacks.

When you take her armor after knocking her out in the Goblin Camp, I imagine that she has another set stashed away in her tent. But this one would not be for battle - like the one taken. Yes, would still have a very BASIC and less intricate drow gambeson but the armor worn would only protect arms and the vitals.
Usually this set of armor was worn for political talks - when Matron Mothers and High Priestesses warred with one another and Minthara - the Lolth Paladin, had to talk as the middle ground between them to make a forced peace in Lolth’s name as it were. So when she is seen at Moonrise Towers again? She would have something like this:

Tav Companion Intro - Wistenra
A while back, my mutuals did a Tav as companion intro. Months later, I decided to do one for Wistenra!
*** Two tieflings corner a drow with mismatched eyes. The tieflings raise their weapons as the drow holds their hands in a peaceful gesture.
“Don’t try to weasel your way out of this one, drow. We caught you poking around the grove,” says one of the tieflings.
“I told you, good people, I never meant any harm,” the drow responds. “If you would just put down the weapons…”
“Don’t play dumb!” The other tiefling strengthens the grip on his weapon. “I lost a good friend to the goblins that your kind leads.”
(Tav/Durge can either choose to step in and interfere using relevant persuasion/deception/intimidation/class/race options, or they can use a stealth check to hang back out of sight, in which case the below scene continues)
“Please, I’m not, with them, I’m not…” The drow starts sniveling before breaking down into sobs. “I didn’t want to go with them. I was kidnapped from my home in Menzoberranzan as a sacrifice for their awful rituals.”
“G…get off!” The grip on the tieflings’ hands start to loosen.
“I didn’t want to, but they threatened my daughter if I didn’t do what they said,” the drow continues. “I know most people think us drow kill our daughters before they kill us, but we aren’t part of some powerful matron family! I’m just a seamstress. Trissy is just learning how to stitch…”
“Now hang on…” The two tieflings looked at each other, unsure of what to do.
“I’m tired. I’m thirsty. I’m far from home. I just want to see my little girl again.” The drow just breaks down crying.
“Maybe there was just a misunderstanding, please don’t cry,” one of the tieflings says.
“Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to take this one back to the grove where we can keep an eye on them. There’s only one of them after all.”
Wistenra sniffles. “Thank you. Thank you kind sirs.”
Wistenra will go with the tieflings, in which case, Tav/Durge will find them in the druid grove.
(If Tav/Durge reveals themselves, one of two things will happen)
If Tav
The drow’s eyes light up. “Oh, look, it’s my friends! See, no nefarious plans here. I just got separated from my adventuring party. We’ll be right out of your hair.”
Before Tav can say anything, the tadpole connection starts up. You see the streets of Baldur’s Gate. The scent of soaps and food wafts through the air from the stalls in the Wide. You smile as you charm your next target. There’s another merchant you could be casing for your mission, but you think you could get a free sweet bun while on your mission. You are in the middle of small talk when the naughtiloid pops into the air, sowing chaos. No matter how you wind your way through the side streets, you can’t escape the second whoosh of air. Your next memory is the interior of a mind flayer pod.
‘Oh, they got you too,’ Wistenra says through the connection. ‘Just play along, and we can figure things out later.’
If Dark Urge
The drow’s eyes widen, their charming and reconciliatory manner drops.
“No.” The drow turns to the tieflings. “We have to get out of here. This [man/woman/person] is very dangerous. They killed many people in Baldur’s Gate, and they will do the same to us if we don’t get away!”
“Really? That’s the best you can do?” one of the tieflings asks.
“I am not bullshitting you this time. We have to go!” yells the drow.
The tadpoles connect. Your first vision is that of a gentle priestess an older drow sharing many features with the one in front of you. She smiles and holds her hands out in aid before you run her through with your blade. Then it shifts. You are now in Baldur’s Gate’s sewers with the very same drow you are now sharing a connection with. You chase your prey through these dark tunnels. The drow’s breathing and heart pounding even more frantically as you hunt them through the winding passages, toying with them. You catch up to the drow and drive an ice pick into their brain and laugh as they stumble around for a few moments before finally collapsing dead into the filth.
‘Get out of my head!’
You are pushed out. You stumble backwards, but your heart races at the memory, thrilled at the prospect of killing this one again. You hunger for it.
“Ah, hells with it.” Wistenra throws a bomb of fog cloud to the ground. You rage as it looks like your prey is escaping. Durge will have to make a wisdom check or else be forced to attack Wistenra and the tieflings. If not stopped, Wistenra will flee, and if they get too far, they will be gone. Also knocking Wistenra and/or the tieflings won’t be an option here. The urge is too strong. If Wistenra manages to get away, this little line will play out:
‘The memories this drow showed you plays out in your head once more. This person clearly knows things about you. It could be worth tracking them down for answers. Or, you feel this thought worm its way in, to savor the sweet taste of that kill once more.’
(If playing as Tav, Wistenra will join your party right away. Durge will need to wait until Chapter Two, where Wistenra will try to kill them at camp, and will need convincing to join. I might do a part two to cover that)
