  There’s a long moment of silence, as the two speak in hushed tones in the darkness of the shared room at the inn. Carefully does Venti pick up Giacomo’s hand, and begin to trace the lines barely visible, relying more on touch than sight.

  “It... slows down.” He confessed, quietly. “With enough time, it... becomes dull. There will be nights, yes, where you have to sit with it, but they become... fewer in number.”

Dropping his hand, Venti instead takes to gently running his fingers through Gio’s hair. “In those times... please, let me try to bring you better thoughts.”

       Drunk on alcohol. Drunk on love. An arm tight around the bard, tugging him closer beneath the sheets and blankets that lay thrown haphazardly above them. Such is the way of things; Passion followed by downfall, affection followed by tainted despair. The feeling of a body beside him, hand held gently, words spoken softly, and there is nothing to worry about, nothing to fear- Yet all the same does anxiety thrum hard in his chest. All the same does he feel sick in his guilt. There is nothing to be sad about, and that is exactly what Giacomo is despairing over- This is not something he deserves. 

       How could Venti lay there, saying such sweet things? Asking to provide such a blessing, to a man he hardly knows? There had been nothing in life that Giacomo loathed more than to be played with like a toy, whether it be by the hands of men or archons. The thought fills his head that that is exactly what he is doing for Venti. ( Hand carefully pulling out of the grasp of the bards, his arm from beneath him, the loss of heat, of gentle and unmarred fingers entwined with those stained in invisible blood and gore ) Playing him like a musician with a lyre to get what he wanted ( pushing the blanket off of his legs as he sits up, knees pulled to his chest and held by shaking arms as he lowers his head to hide his face ) searching for the comfort and care that would not be provided to him by any who knew the truth ( because who would provide care to a machine? what were it’s feelings if not nothing but data and misfired circuits? There is nothing in him that is genuine; He is nothing but the work of a madman, and in his manipulation and lies, nothing but what he is programmed to be. ) 

       “I can’t do this anymore,” a voice soft in it’s whisper, feeling the familiar sting of tears in his eyes ( liar, manipulator ) “There’s too much you don’t know about me.”

Banana Fish boys and signature scent - some options

Hey, so I asked about the scents for the characters because I'm really into perfume and wanted to do a post like this based on your opinions of what the characters would smell like.

So, here's what I think:

Eiji: You said "the sweetest scent. he smells like marshmallow and orange blossom + his hair smells like lemons"

I couldn't quite find marshmallow and those citrus scents in a fragrance I thought would be fitting, but what I could come up with was:

Chanel Les Eaux de Chanel Paris-Deauville which is a fairly recent unisex release from Chanel in an eau de cologne style. It kinda of features all those citrus notes you mentioned (though it's certainly more orangey than lemoney) and has some nice sweetness from jasmine. It's also on a base of neutral, soothing woods that smells like a very typical type of fragrance that was very popular in Japan in the 90s, the kind of "Zen" fragrance (this is just the base, though, that gives it some heft and keeps it from being too sheer like most eaux de colognes; the fragrance as a whole is not woody and is much more a sweet-citrus-aromatic). All in all I'd say the key notes for me in this are (in order from most to least noticeable): sicilian orange, bergamot, lime, lemon, jasmine, hedione, assorted greens and petitgrain. If Eiji's hair smells significantly more lemony, I would suggest he might wear Paris-Deauville on his skin, and spray a light mist of Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte on his hair, or to walk through. Not a cheap combination, though! 

Hermès Le Jardin de Monsieur Li is another citrus-sweet watery unisex fragrance with slight Zen undertones (though without any of the slight woodiness of the base of Paris-Deauville). The burst of citrus here is not due to a combination of oranges and lemons but to juicy kumquat, which is a very distinct citrus smell, and pretty great for someone looking for a distinct signature scent. Like in Paris-Deauville, the sweetness here is largerly thanks to jasmine (a flower, which, like, say, tuberose, is categorized as a "white floral," a catergory of perfumery quite known for sweetness to say the least). I think this is probably the more Eiji-like fragrance of the two, or at least the one I can more easily imagine him wearing, even though I think Paris-Deauville is more on par with your description. The reasons why aren't many, but I think this one skews generally more traditionally masculine than Paris-Deauville (which is a very blank unisex, in terms of traditional gender norms in perfumery), is probably easier to find (I think the Les Eaux de Chanel range is an in-house exclusive?), cheaper (you can find some good deals on this online, generally), has less of an overall "pretty veneer" than Paris-Deauville (Le Jardin de M. Li is still a masterful fragrance, but it is less "cute" than P-D, which I think Eiji would appreciate, as he is generally self-conscious of being thought of/seen as too cute), and is a more faint, discreet smell. And I mean faint. All of the fragrances in the Hermès Le Jardin series are very watery and sheer, but really, none more so than this one. If you're in the market for a bright, tart, citrus scent, many of the fragrances in the Le Jardin series deliver (particularly as a top note), and, in fact, many of the fragrances Jean-Claude Ellena made for Hermès in general during his time as in-house perfumer there could be appealing. Ellena stepped down from his post in 2016, but many of the scents he made feature a tart, fizzy, bright, effervescent grapefruit top note, which became something of a signature for him, and is a very, very citrusy smell (though this particular grapefruit accord is not present in Jardin de M. Li). 

The marshmallow note is tricky. You can find it in fragrances, but those generally skew very feminine, young (both of those as far as traditional gender norms in perfumery go; I truly don't feel scent has gender, but I do think we have become used to certain norms in smells as regard gender and age) and loud in register (big projection and longevity, which I don't think is something Eiji would seek out or be comfortable with). The best ones I can recommend if you have an interest in fragrances with this note are Demeter Fragrance Marshmallow (aptly named) and Etat Libre d'Orange Divin'Enfant, though none of those fragrances register as Eiji to me, and they only fit your bill insofar as the marshmallow note goes. 

Some other ideas for Eiji, in order I find from most to least applicable:   Le Labo Fleur d'Oranger 27, Louis Vuitton Sun Song, Hiram Green Dilettante, Hermès Concentre d'Orange Verte.

Ash: You said "rosemary" is his signature scent. So, this is what I came up with:

Chanel Platinum Égoiste, which is actually a very popular masculine aromatic (basically lots of herbs and spices) flanker of the older Chanel classic Égoïste (which I wouldn't recommend for Ash by the way, at least not on your brief. Flankers are basically new scents that piggyback on more established names from a perfume house's stable. Some bear a very close resemblance to the original, and with some it's just more of a marketing ploy that suggests to the public that a classic fragrance they probably have heard about has been "updated for the now" - Cristalle Eau Verte, for instance, that I recommended for Eiji as a hair mist above, is a flanker of the original 1970s Cristalle, which, by the way, is so good, though off-topic). Anyway, Platinum Égoïste, which skews warm-spicy with slight woody undertones in the base (therefore creating a slight connection with Eiji's scent, if Eiji were to wear Paris-Deauville - which would also mean they're both fragrances from the same house!), and which sells like hot-cakes in France, has a very interesting and quite delicious rosemary note (it definitely is the kind of fragrance to make you swoon if you smell it on someone - specially someone you already fancy), and is done in a very kind of traditionally masculine formulation. It feels kind of tough or a bit butch on the outside, but is kept from being simplistic or overly-macho in a cartoonish way by a deceptive quiet sophistication and harmony in the notes (I recommend letting this one breathe a bit; not applying just as you're out the door). I think Ash would really dig this one, and I think Eiji would probably dig it even more on him. To my nose, the notes that play the most significant part in the composition of this are (from most perceptible to least): geranium (which is a very interesting floral in perfumery that rarerly registers as what we generally think of as floral; it's quite warm, spicy, a bit powdery, and clean, though paradoxically quite earthy), that gorgeous rosemary note, lavender, oakmoss, clary sage, petitgrain, cedar, sandalwood and amber. One last thing to mention about this is one is the slightly woodsy base, which while it doesn't make me think of Cape Cod in the summer, does bring to mind notions of being outdoors in upstate New York, just as summer is turning to autumn. Overall, this has an easy sophistication that feels very Ash, and is also quite a comforting scent to smell on someone. Eiji would go bananas.

Other than this, probably the most prominent rosemary note in perfurmery comes courtesy of the very inexpensive and oft-overlooked Clarins Eau Dynamisante. This is a very fresh-spicy aromatic citrus, and interestingly, though there are a lot of really well-placed notes playing off each other here, the two key players really are rosemary and... lemon! Which in a way makes me think it is the perfect scent for Ash, because, as per your description, Ash's signature scent is rosemary, and Eiji's hair smells of lemons. So there you go! I think there's something really touching and sweet about Ash's signature fragrance carrying overtones from and sharing commonalities with Eiji's signature scent, as if never really wanting to be away from Eiji, and subconsciously compensating for that with a fragrance that both manages to remind him of Eiji and remind Eiji of him when he smells it. Eau Dynamisante is often marketed as aromatherapy water, specially in France (and is actually often used as  a layer topper-upper - something people might spray on top of other fragrances to create a more unique scent), and is often used that way. That theory definitely holds water: just spritz it and you are likely to feel both more perky and somehow soothed. I mean, it's crazy to think you can get that effect from a bottle, but you can, and for this reason, it's usually something I like to recommend to people. It's also a fairly inexpensive scent, and one that has fallen a little out of fashion with younger consumers these days. A lot of people also ignore it on account of it coming in a non-fancy plastic bottle, but I think to do so is a mistake. Truly, this is one of the more sophisticated scents out there, and you can get it for almost nothing, and smell like almost no one else. Be advised though that this is very faint, and stays very much a skin-scent - people will smell it if they are close to you, which is probably something I think Ash would prefer. I don't see him wanting to wear something very loud, specially if he's only just recently been getting into perfumes, and might still be worried about leaving a trace.

Now, all of the other ones I'm going to mention feature prominent rosemary notes to some degree, but in neither of them is it as much of a key player as it is in the previous two: Christian Dior Eau Sauvage (a very classic "barbershop" kind of fragrance, but quite appealing - I mean, the middle and latter developments of this are quite sexy, in a wow kind of way. Definitely more of a summery scent, with again some citrus notes to throw it back to Eiji. Strangely enough I could also see Blanca wearing this as a signature.); Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio (which most people have probably smelled, and which is a more aquatic, more "sporty," more stoic, less old-school classic and less sexy take on some of the ideas in Eau Sauvage); Tommy Hilfiger Endless Blue and Yves Saint Laurent M7 (by far the least prominent rosemary note here, and one that is quite butch in a big and burly way that makes me think it might be more suitable to Blanca. I think this scent is probably more representative of other people's ideas of Ash than of Ash himself. Though released in the 2000s, it is done in a very 80s action hero kind of way that Ash was sometimes portrayed externally as). These are in order of what I think Ash would be most to least likely to wear.

giovanni narciso was born in toronto, canada on july 26th to a world-renowned hockey player and his socialite wife. needless to say, gio lived his life in the spotlight from the moment he was born, and he’s always had everything he’s ever wanted right at his fingertips.

from a young age, gio was encouraged to be active all the time. he started skating almost as soon as he learned how to stand up by himself. it’s no wonder that he had such a knack for it with his father being a hockey legend and the fact that he got so much practice. when his father realized that gio had a natural affinity, he put him onto a club hockey team as soon as he was old enough, and started making gio work with a private coach to give him a one-up on his teammates and everyone else on the ice ( despite the fact that he was only seven when he started ).

because of this, he always felt a lot of pressure to be the best he could possibly be… how could he not ? there were sports reporters showing up to his games to get the scoop on how he was doing, and how he compared to his father, and if he’d ever actually make it in professional hockey.

his parents divorced when he was eleven, and his mom moved to marry a much older, wealthy man in chicago, illinois. so, much to his despair, gio lived his life switching from toronto to chicago. the only constant in his life was hockey. so even though it stressed him the fuck out, it also made him feel at peace. he knew no matter where he was, he could get on the ice and kick everyone’s ass. he spent most of his time in chicago with his mom, and attended school there too, but during holidays or the summertime, he spent his time back up in toronto with his dad.

this really took a toll on his mental health because his mom ?? sorta just forgot about him :/ like … she fought for custody just to spite his dad ? she didn’t actually want gio. this sounds kinda dumb but like … sorta think about cinderella ( #gioella ) and how he suddenly got thrust into an entire new family that didn’t really like him or know how to connect with him. he felt really alone more often than not.

luckily, at sixteen, he was signed to a minor league hockey team in chicago. because of this development, he stopped going out to visit toronto as often ( especially when it was game season ). this caused a lot of buzz in the hockey community because oh my god giovanni narciso, son of a hockey legend, was breaking onto the scene

and it SHOULD’VE STAYED THAT WAY !!!! BUT NO ! gio’s dad had other things in mind. demon.

you see, pretty much all throughout high school, gio was dating kylie. she is the love of his life. there’s never been an ounce of doubt about that fact. the sky is blue and gio loves kylie. like ???

gio proposed to kylie when they were eighteen. fresh out of high school. this made gio’s dad LIVID. he didn’t like kylie or her family or anything about her. gio’s plan, of course, was to say a big fuck you ! and marry her anyways. but it didn’t end up working out like that.

sadly, giovanni’s father did not approve of her. was he a little salty that gio chose to stay in chicago and not visit anymore (even if it was because he was signed there) ? yes. was he incredibly greedy and wanted to cement the narciso name in history too ? aaaabsolutely.

as soon as he was eligible at eighteen, gio had multiple offers from nhl franchises to come play for their teams. he could pick and choose whoever he wanted, basically. he was a real hot commodity. but suddenly, the offers were being ripped right from his hands. and it was all because of his dad’s influence in the hockey world. he basically gave gio an ultimatum: marry kylie, and there was no more hockey. or do as he said, and he could have it all.

it was rushed, haphazardly chosen decision, but gio chose hockey. it had helped him through every rough patch in his life, and it was the one thing he knew he was good at. it’s not like he was exceptionally smart or good at anything else. if it wasn’t hockey, then he wasn’t worth anything. that’s something he honestly believes to this day.

so instead of TALKING THIS THROUGH WITH HER LIKE ANY RATIONAL PERSON WOULD ! he straight up left. packed his shit and left in the middle of the night when kylie was asleep. completely ghosted her. didn’t answer her texts, her calls, nothing. blocked her on everything.

he did as his father told him to, and started dating carolina graham, a nice girl that his father liked a lot better

their relationship was reminiscent of p*te dav*dson and ariana grande’s. they very quickly got engaged and they were the talk of all the tabloids. there wasn’t a moment where they could step out without cameras being shoved in their face. this sky-rocketed gio to socialite status. everyone that didn’t already know him from hockey wanted to know the handsome young man now engaged to carolina

when he was twenty-one , he secured the bag with the ny rangers DJSIOAJDOA and got a multi-year contract — one of the biggest contracts in the nhl history, and became one of the youngest captains ever .

hockey is a rough-around-the-edges type of sport, and that’s reflected in gio’s personality. he’s very charming, and is typically a pretty nice person ? he doesn’t go out of his way to be kind or anything but he’s not gonna start a fight for no reason DSAIJDSADSjDI

he’s terribly stubborn, and once he’s set his mind on something, it will happen no matter what or who he has to do. this could be good because in a way, it just means he’s very ambitious, but it’s also bad because he will do and say things without a thought about how it makes someone feel

narciso is a fitting last name because he’s incredibly full of himself. how could he not be ? he’s the son of a hockey legend, and he’s made a great name for himself too. he’s an amazing athlete, and he knows he’s good looking too. it’s no secret that he’s a little big-headed sometimes.

he has a very short temper. he blows his lid very easily, and will say things he probably doesn’t mean just because he wants to hurt you.

he just??? doesn’t think. he doesn’t have a filter literally at all. will say the first thing that comes to mind always and it’s usually fucking stupid sdjdjas… he’s also a big jokester and very sarcastic 

also has a problem with being honest ? lies about everything? the type of person to smile in your face while he stabs you in the back? will lie when there’s no reason to? you could be like “gio did u eat breakfast” and he’ll be like “ya.” even if he didn’t like… dumb shit. don’t ever trust him about anything

ok so he comes off as cocky like… externally… but inside, he’s really insecure? like he believes that love exists because he’s felt it but he doesn’t…. think it was meant for him, if that makes sense. because every time he loves someone, he fucks it all up. because of this, he has a really poor vision of love n everything. uhhhh can u say trust issues?

he’s also a wh*re . i’m so sorry. lowkey craves affection and fills that void with meaningless hookups and one night stands 

most people think he lives up to the ‘dumb jock’ stereotype, which is something he’s also really insecure about. it’s not that he didn’t try in school. he did to a point, but then he just flat out stopped caring. school was always really difficult for him. he was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was 7, and it always made him feel really out of place in school… to the point where he just stopped caring because all it did was made him feel frustrated and dumb when all he needed was some extra help?

1.  Who is your favorite character in 2?

Omg. This is actually really difficult because I loved all the characters, but if i have to pick a favorite it would be Douglas Fogerty. He tries so hard to be a caricature of this "old school macho man" but her just cant hide the fact that he is more complex and sensitive than he let's on and he is too hilarious. Brad Garret in my opinion is just one of the funniest actors without trying. Loved him since Everybody Loves Raymond.

2. Who is your least favorite character in 1? Oh super easy! Matt Hartley. He was whiny, a complete jerk, and completely unfocused as a character. Like he was never a good boyfriend or standout the way Gio or Henry were. And I mean the henry relationship was problematic and Gio was never actually Betty's boyfriend. So Matt is really the only romantic relationship (not prepared to end or started in the after math of a breakup) that we see and to me he is absolutely meh and just an asshole at his worse. A lot of people compare him with Daniel but again maybe because of the way Daniel is written or because of how Eric played him I just never felt so absolutely disgusted with Daniel the way I was with Matt at certain points in the series. I was unhappy that betty got back with him after everything he had done to her.

3. What is your favorite episode of 4?

Oh hands down season 1 episode 7. The season finale. As much as I love and respect Renata Klein's season 2 melt downs and every episode she just let's people have it. I will always have the scene of Perry's attack and death imbeded in my minds. It was so beautifully done. Which seems wierd because death scenes are usually supposed to be violent or sad not beautiful. But the scene managed to still be violent and even a little sad (mostly because of the aftermath and shock that that happened and the characters went through that), but the was something about the scene cutting between the attack and images of the ocean beating waves against the rocks that just made it so powerful along with september song playing in the background. I mean it was just beautiful I cannot use that word enough.

5. Who is your favorite couple in 3?

Like actual couples or the ones in my mind? Lol. Sticking with canon then I would say Mel and Niko. In spite of everything they cared and loved each other and it was sad that Mels decisions and life changing dramatically got in the way of that.

6. Who is your favorite couple in 2?

Poppy and Douglas. Hands down since they are the only official couple so far.

This is terrible I cant just pick one, but I guess if I have to it is a toss up between the very first episode and the last episode of the series. Both were done so well imo and ugh both gave me feels. So. Many. Feels.

Ugly Betty is probably my first love in terms of TV show infatuation. I have loved many shows and even ones before Ugly Betty. But It was my first real love. And I will always be my preference. It has everything, personal and political messages, comedy, drama, and some borderline mystic moments (see mexico trip and subconscious manifestations of guilt as a reference).

Obviously, Ugly Betty since it has more episodes than the Charmed Reboot, but I've watched all the episodes of both series.

Madeline because even though she got those personal demons. Her husband (imo) is the best and even when he is a snarky passive aggressive jerk I still would want to be with him and find him just lovable. Also chloe is a pretty great kid. Yah the eldest daughter kinda sucks, but you know I feel like domestic life wouldnt be so bad. If I got to keep my personality. But I mean If i had to become the character fully and make the same decisions then none of them.

No. They are way to different in styles, genre, and filming.

Oh CAOS. No competition. I prefer Charmed and its characters, but COAS has a clearer and obviously well planned direction. Everything that they did had purpose and intention and it didnt feel as if there were dropped characters or plot points imo.

19. Which has the better theme music, 2 or 4?

Ok so what do we mean by theme music? Like opening main title song or like score, or song choice in between score and silence? If it is main title song then for sure BLL. Michael Kiwanuka is amazing. I loved the cover of "sometimes I feel like a motherless child" that he did for the Man in the High Castle Resistance Radio Album. And his song Cold Heart is amazing and I am glad BLL used it. Single parents doesnt have a main title song so BLL would win by default even if they hadn't used Cold Heart but hey still glad they did.

Giovanni tends to see Ariana as his most level-headed lieutenants. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and while loyal to the core, she’s not fawning over him like Archer or a rabid dog like Proton.

Nanu didn’t confide much to anyone during his years in Interpol, although he bonded with his protégés like Looker or Anabel. When he became Kahuna, he took the habit of venting to Bulu, especially at the beginning, when he was convinced the Tapu had made a mistake picking him. But he also found a strange but good friendship with Hala, when he realized that the other old Kahuna wasn’t always the good mentor he appears to the rest of Alola.

Episode 10

Clip 1 - Eva coming for Martino

I feel it’s so fitting for this marshmallow sweetheart Eva to start off leaving comparatively non-confrontational messages for Martino that only escalate when he doesn’t answer, instead of jumping straight to “ISAK PICK UP YOUR DAMN PHONE NOW” (RUN BOY RUN)

So Eva and Gio seem to be pretty relaxed and comfortable during this conversation about Martino considering their precarious relationship status - like they actually go somewhere else together and sit down, and there’s not a ton of space between them. His body language is pointed toward her. That’s nice that it’s not awkward, but I don’t know how I feel about it narratively, considering there probably should be some tension?

It makes some sense in that Gio seemed like he still wanted to be with Eva when talking to her at the skate park - he put it more on her shoulders, did she still want to be with him? With Jonas there was that “come find me when you find out” but overall it felt more frayed on his end even if he loved her.

But I loved that awkward goodbye kiss! That little customary gesture that’s suddenly got a lot more weight to it as they’re navigating this in-between stage. They’re kinda still dating but they’re kinda not, you know?

Clip 2 - Silvia and Eva in the bathroom

Note that this clip takes place later than the original version, which was paired with the period blood letter and took place right after the Jonas conversation where he asks who Eva is - Vilde asks her the same thing (theeeeme) and Eva bursts out in frustration at the question later talking to Isak. It was overall a more fraught time for Eva, since it was before her reconciliation with Ingrid and smoothing things over with Iben, was thinking she might have to switch schools and had some tension with her new friends after Vilde turned her past into a group presentation. This scene here happens after almost all of those problems have been smoothed over except for her relationship with Gio (which is less awkward than Eva’s with Jonas) and with Silvia (who apologizes during this clip). With that in mind, it’s more comfortable and less fragile.

It also takes the place of the scene where Vilde puts on a fake happy face in the cafeteria and lies to the girls about being with Pepsi Max.

Awww, it’s really nice that Silvia apologized to Eva. And the comment about how she gets used to people hating her is spot-on. it’s worth noting that this is the second time in a short period that Silvia has botched things with a group of girls, and who knows how many times before that.

But again, where does this leave us in terms of a firm arc for Eva? Once more they’ve cut out the thread/theme of who-is-Eva by not having Silvia ask it. Which I don’t inherently mind but I would like there to be a solid line of her character going from point A to point B, like I want there to be, for lack of a better term, a thesis statement about what this season was really about, since that was a strong point of the original S1. But I feel like we won’t know for sure until that final scene with Giovanni.

The original scene lands the point about Eva’s identity, this scene is more about setting up the group reconciliation with Silvia. 

Clip 3-  Awkwaaaaard

Similar to the first clip of the episode, Eva and Gio’s relationship here feels much less awkward than Eva and Jonas at this stage

Gio intentionally approaches her and makes conversation instead of literally bumping into her as Jonas did to Eva. It’s neutral small talk for the most party, and slight inquiries about Martino, it’s not digging deeper, but it still feels like they’re pretty chill. 

That made the fight seem more out of nowhere, though? Like with Eva and Jonas (and other versions) they were walking this fragile ground where they were being polite, and there was that rush of seeing each other and being like, oh, you make me so happy, but you could also sense how fragile and delicate it was through their body language and expressions and pauses, and so when P-Chris comes around, it’s easy for it to break. With this scene, they feel so comfortable that Gio suddenly shoving Fede didn’t feel right, they were on more stable ground. Like I would’ve bought his appearance suddenly creating the awkwardness between Gio and Eva, and Gio having to excuse himself, but not the 0 to 100 in two seconds here.

It doesn’t help that we didn’t see Gio react until he shoved Fede, like the way it was shot was a little weird. At first I couldn’t tell when Gio saw Fede coming down the hall and if Fede made the comment within earshot of them, since we didn’t get a good reaction shot of Gio to Fede’s presence. Plus having Jonas notice P-Chris and get tense was what prompted the “awkward” comment in the first place. Fede just seems like a shit-stirrer, lol.

Lmao, Edoardo did nothing to break up this fight. He redirected Fede with one hand to keep walking, that was it. On the one hand William gradually descending the stairs to halfheartedly remove Chris from Jonas was the best thing he ever did, but on the other hand, Edoardo not giving a shit at all is funny in itself.

Clip 4 - Not a Meet Cute ... a Start-Over Cute?

Good job, Alice! Federico is not worth the private transportation.

The way they shot this makes it look like the beginning of an Eva/Alice hate-to-love romance, more than any other version of this scene. Right now they have moved past “hate” and are in “tentative friendship” mode.

Lol, so I guess people had some beef with the comment about feminism? I get it, obviously feminism is not about man-hating, probably not the best message to send. But I also thought Alice was clearly making a joke and not being serious about it, so unless there’s some nuance in the wording that doesn’t come through in translation, it didn’t really bother me.

Also, not to go on a personal tangent, but I’m at the point of my life/feminist journey/whatever-you-want-to-call-it where IDGAF about defending feminism against accusations of man-hating, because misogynists will think feminists hate men no matter what you say. You can preface every feminist discussion with 10 paragraphs of clarifying that you don’t hate men and they still won’t care and you’ll just have wasted time and energy coddling anti-feminists that could have been spent on the important issues. For real, don’t bother.

Eva suggesting that the party sounds like a Sapphic shindig and Alice being like “Who said that isn’t the solution?” just ramped up the flirtiness, wowza. Although the line about “sounds like [lesbian night]” was translated a few different ways, using language that was, uhhh, not as neutral as lesbian. I can’t speak to whether it was as offensive in Italian, though.

I forgot, did they say that Alice wrote the message in the bathroom stall? It’s not super important since any gossipy person at school could have written it, but since it substituted for the period blood letter, I’m just curious.

Clip 5 - Party in the streets, puking in the sheets

Is this party taking place on the street? Like are they pre-gaming before they go somewhere? Pre-caking? Street parties seem like a good time.

Lol, Sana is pretty warm and receptive toward inviting Silvia, while Eleonora is like eh, whatever. I feel like Eleonora is the one with the pricklier attitude toward Silvia, which could be interesting to see play out next season since S2 definitely has a focus on that relationship.

“She read it but she didn’t reply” I mean you literally just sent the text five seconds ago, give her a minute.

Making the video for Silvia and asking her to come over is the sweetest thing, damn. Like if I were Silvia, my heart would get so warm. You know, if I wasn’t wasted and two steps from passing out.

So Martino wasn’t invited to this party, he just randomly happened to be in the street hanging out with some pals?

Time for the much-awaited snake roasting scene!

“Did your tits get bigger?” You aren’t fooling anyone, Martino.

Martino’s disappointment at thinking Eva and Gio are back together is super obvious, like he can barely manage to conjure up any fake enthusiasm.

Oh geez. So in the original, Isak lets Eva guess why he ratted her out. There has been a lot of meta and discussion as to whether he wanted Eva to guess the truth, take it off his hands, get it all out. It’s when she guesses that he likes her that he runs with the lie. Here, Martino is the one to say he has feelings for her. He creates the lie. There’s no ambiguity as to whether he wants the truth to come out.

I mean, honestly? I could believe that they changed to the plot to be about Martino having feelings for Eva. I don’t think they will, but I could buy it. Because Martino doesn’t seem like he’s lying, it’s like he’s getting things off his chest. With Isak, he wasn’t being too obvious that he was making stuff up, but on a rewatch you can tell that he’s fabricating this story, especially due to the nuance of Tarjei’s acting. Isak is a liar but he’s not necessarily good at it. He’s human. What he gives is an imitation of swagger and Nice Guy-ism. I don’t get much self-doubt in Martino’s performance.

That’s not to say he’s a bad actor, actually I think he’s one of the better performers on this show, but I did think this conversation was underwhelming compared to the original. There’s such great subtext and especially vulnerability in that scene - they cut out some great moments, such as Eva asking how things were going with his mom before confronting him and us getting to see Isak faking his confidence that everything will work out with his parents. Or Isak saying Eva can’t tell Jonas. Or just the extended explanation of why he did it. 

Plus you can really see Isak squirm as Eva pretends she’s gotten back with Jonas, like she’s playing with her food, and this scene didn’t have that delicious build-up.

Was there a reason why Eleonora couldn’t host Silvia at her place? Like logically I know it’s because they wouldn’t introduce the collective yet, if they’re keeping that, but surely it would be OK to bring Silvia back to a residence with no parents, just two quirky university students? Is Eleonora’s living situation going to be the same?

Sana had a very clear game plan on how to handle the situation, good for her.

Lol, I think this scene inherently loses something without the ironic Christmas music but it was funny to have “I wanna be a bottom feeder” right before Silvia barfs on Sana. Sana’s reactions were pretty good.

When the puking started, I wondered whether they would show Sana without her hijab, and then they did.

OK ... I’m not a Muslim so I don’t want to get too much into this, but:

Sana taking off her headscarf as a mark of her comfort around the girls is a sweet gesture, and from what I understand from reading Muslims’ thoughts, this is OK to do and it’s likely that she wouldn’t get in the bed and fall asleep in her hijab. So that’s fine.

But in a meta sense, I did think oh right ... we’re getting this moment because the actress is not Muslim, and this is a costume for her and she can take it off. Whereas with someone like Iman Meskini, it’s not (according to her personal religious beliefs). There was a few (just a few, not many) comments I saw that were like “Sana’s hair is so pretty, she shouldn’t cover it up” which made me go :/ :/ :/

“I was just trying to kill Edoardo’s son” uhhhh is that an accurate translation? Because that’s kinda different from “I think I killed William’s baby,” there’s way more intent with the Italian one and it changes how I view Silvia’s opinion on the matter. Like I sort of thought a part of Vilde wanted that baby, for not so great reasons, and that’s why she was insistent with the nurse that she had all the pregnancy symptoms. But you know, maybe not! 

Also, “I tried to kill Edoardo’s son” and the scene ending abruptly with a BAM could be like, a cliffhanger for a crime show if we want to make Skam a much grittier and bleaker show.

General Comments:

I’m wondering about how they’ll handle S3. I think S2 has the potential to be better than the original, but so far the portrayal of Martino has been lacking a lot of that vulnerability that Isak had and the conversation with Eva in this episode reinforced that. Again, I’m not placing the fault on the actor, and obviously we’re just getting started with the character, I just hope they can dig deep into his self-doubt when they come to it.

I’m trying not to get into the debate about this since it’s not my culture, but because I keep seeing comments in the Sana casting debate about the potential lack of Muslim actors in Italy, for comparison:

I haven’t mentioned this much but the Skam Italia social media team is doing a nice job, some of the texts have been really funny and cute. Shout-out to Martino telling Eva to move to California to work as a waitress in one of those restaurants “where they give you coffee nonstop” because, yeah, that is one good thing you can say about the US. We’re politically a mess but at least our diners will keep your cups overflowing.

And with various dealings and the police in their pockets, Niccolo Vinciguerra was poised to stay in power, a rising competition for the established five families.

As a child, he saw nothing differently; people came and go, he had one too many uncles and cousins, and funerals were held as often as parties were thrown. Luca didn’t question the men in suits that accompanied them, or why his father often left for business trips but when Francesco and Giuseppe were sent to study abroad, Tony focused on teaching his youngest son how to fight and use a weapon, reminding him that his time will come. It went on for years and when he was old enough to understand, his mother gave him a choice: join them or forge his own path.

But greed was a powerful aphrodisiac and the empire that Niccolo built would be burned to the ground, the match lit from the inside.

Luca was sixteen when it happened, the bomb killed off almost everyone leaving him at the mercy of the police. He tried to avoid trouble, scared that the police would find him, but a misdemeanor got him back on their radar. He completed his police training and was recruited for a special assignment at twenty-five; Luca went undercover, taking the name Dominic Costello.

He was booked and incarcerated for a year to make up for his lack of a criminal history, immersing himself like a duck takes to water; he was efficient, and for a while no one was better than him. His latest assignment was to follow up on a lead about his brother’s death, Giuseppe’s body was found by the docks after evading the police for years for dealing narcotics, but the disappearance of Joe Caruso meant a reassignment and Luca found himself heading to Muddy Waters. It wasn’t just the years spent undercover that made him suitable, it was because he was expendable.

P e r s o n a l i t y »

Too smart, too conflicted and a complete risk, Luca Ambrosi was kept on a tight leash in case he decided to turn on them. But he was malleable, and his handlers used his morality to suit their needs. Still, there was no denying his roots; it showed in his efficiency, his arrogance, the flash of anger in his dark eyes when threatened and anyone who knew his story agreed that he was a spitting image of the cold-blooded killer currently behind bars.

Time had diminished Niccolo Vinciguerra’s legacy to nothing and the constant reminder of where he came from put Luca on edge; accepting meant doubt on his integrity as a cop and it didn’t matter how good he was at what he did, he would always be just a foot soldier to the machinations of those in power. A conscientious criminal they called him, and not a day went by that he was reminded that he was one murder away from being like the rest of his failed mobster family.

His undercover work prevented him from building any real connections, yet Luca was easily convincing; he learned to blend in, to act dumb and he was friendly when needed. He kept a separate personality for his cover, someone who was cocky, reckless and won’t think twice in throwing a punch. Everyone was just a means to an end and conscience was too heavy a baggage to carry in a life or death situation. His latest lead brought him to Muddy Waters and the quaint town beckoned him to lower his defenses. But just as his privileged life was built on lies, Luca knew that it was only a matter of time before the small town lost its charm and revealed itself to be the cesspool that it truly was.

The last couple of days have been trying and tiring for Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo fans; for those who love him because it’s very difficult to handle all this hate, lies, rumuours; and for all those who hate him because their emotions, maybe negative were bursting as well.

Let’s sum up what happened with Cristiano in the last year (not calendar or season but if we say from last June til this point).

1. He wins Portugal’s first ever big tournament with his national team.

2. He won FIFA Best, Ballon d’Or, and countless of other awards you can all look up at wiki if you like.

3. He reinvented himself with the help of Zidane for the satisfiement for many, and did not score outrageuosly much goals but still gave out lot of assists and kept his form up all along the season.

4. He won La Liga with Real Madrid, and Champions League.

5. He’s still booed often by his own fans.

6. The Spanish media still tries to cut him down any way, any time they can.

7. He’s accused of rape by Der Spiegel who we are still waiting for to publish their evidence.

8. The Spanish Tax Office has started an official investigation against him; later on demanding him pleading guilty and making a deal with them or they’d put him into jail.

9. Everyone, madridistas, the Spanish press, Real Madrid (despite of the statement where they appear to support him, also demands him to take the deal, and asks press not to publish articles of the tax fraud with Cristiano wearing the club’s shirt) treat him like a criminal, no innocent until proven guilty, whatsoever.

10. Rumuors spread out of control, and the majority of madridistas believe everything that demonise Cristiano, from him just throwing a tantrum for no good reason to him blackmailing the club for a bigger and better contract. As an answer to all of these believed rumuors -in which Florentino Perez generally hated president of the club can not be blamed for anything, did nothing wrong, anything said regarding him backstabbing Ronaldo is just fake rumuour because Ronaldo is the devil himself- fans who only two weeks ago chanted his name, jump on the opportunity to abuse him in the most disgusting ways to the point of some demanding if he leaves, Spanish authorities must strip him off his fortune. 

No one stops, and wonders whether if any of the news that Cristiano wants to leave the club are true or not. No one stops and wonders if maybe, just maybe Florentino Perez is not as innocent as he’d like to appear. I can’t help but wonder how come fans admit Perez can be a manipulative hijo de p*ta except when it comes to Cristiano Ronaldo; during these times suddenly Florentino Perez is a saint.

Here I’d like to refer back to Pepe from only a few weeks ago when he mentioned, no player can get a renewal after the age of 33. How old is Cristiano? Is it possible that maybe Perez thinks this is his last chance to get a big money out of Cristiano? If he is sold for 200 millions, not only the club earns that much but also saves a huge amount they’d pay him. Clearly, I’m not saying this is what is happening, I’m just asking you to stop and consider other possibilities than Cristiano Ronaldo -who by the way we know as a very straight forwards man- being the worst person born on this planet.

Also, if indeed, it is true that Cristiano wants to leave the *country*, would you be surprised? Here’s a pro and con list, only based on my thoughts, nothing else regarding the question.

Pro:

1. He plays at his dream club, the biggest club in the world.

2. He loves living in Madrid because it’s a wonderful city.

3. His son goes to school in Madrid.

4. He has a Spanish girlfriend.

5. Real Madrid is where he has the biggest chance to win individual and team titles.

Con:

1. The majority of the fans of his dream club abuse and ridicule him, booes and whistles him at the first wrong pass, demand him to be sold. He came to Real Madrid from a club where they sing for him to this very day.

2. He loves Madrid, the city but not how he’s treated there. Pretty much since day one, they’ve been trying to get a hold of him somehow, with something to bring him down.

3. His son is now 7 years old, and understands more and more of what’s going on with his father, as Cristiano mentioned now repeatedly, this is something that upsets him -not without a reason either-.

4. His girlfriend might be pregnant, if so, he’s building a family what he might not want to do in such hostile atmosphere. Also, Gio was a nanny in the UK so the country wouldn’t be entirely foreign to her.

5. He loves a good challenge, won everything possible on a club level with Real Madrid so giving a shot to another club could prove exciting.

All in all, what I’m trying to say is that... ask yourself if you would stay under such circumstances? After spending 8 years of your life, trying to prove yourself, giving your everything and still getting hate, still getting abuse, would you stay; would you try and give even more in hope maybe one day they finally accept you, would you be willing to fight a likely Don Quijote battle? 

How much do they want from him? What else is he supposed to do to turn the ties? Is it even possible for him to make madridistas, Spain respect him or is it indeed a Don Quijote fight?
