Happy 30th anniversary, Lunar! I had wanted to get a drawing done for each of the prompts I made for Lunar Week, but due to both my cats getting sick and my head just not being in the right place, this is all I was able to do, oh well. ^^;;;

This prompt was #2: Carried on Wings of Hope. Dyne has 'borrowed' back the White Dragon Wings for a secret retrieval mission in the ruins of Goddess Althena's Fortress… Although, he was expecting to find a corpse to lay to rest, instead of an ex-boyfriend barely clinging to life…. :3c Consider this a prelude to the comic I've been writing for like half a year now. >:3c

Yeah for some reason the background makes it hard for Dall-E mini to pay attention to the character descriptions.

Oh, a couple of these are almost close. But I’m still not convinced Dall-E knows what I’m asking for.

Final Thoughts: Dall-E Mini is fun enough, but I’m not really impressed. It feels exactly the same as that other image AI from several months ago that I’ve completely forgotten the name of lol. The only improvement over that one is Dall-E generates 9 images instead of 1.

Looking at other people’s results, I’d probably be more impressed if I liked more popular things, lmao.

Dall-E 2 looks impressive, and when that becomes publicly mess-around-able I’ll probably mess around with it. But I’m not holding my breath for it to be able to generate anything I actually want without having to write a novella in the prompt bar. :P

All that said, most of these I made tonight did manage to make at least one image each that I’d kinda like to take into Clip Studio and turn into a finished artwork... Hmm.

Like, emotional intelligence is something I've personally come to value more highly than cold, analytical academic intelligence.... it always surprises me when emotional intelligence is completely ignored, both in fictional characters as well as in real people.

Someone who's able to see your delicate, shattered emotions and thaw your frozen heart... able to snap you out of the prison you built for yourself in your head.... able to make you care for yourself and others in ways you had never considered before... I can't help but find that incredibly attractive and romantic......

But to stay sillay in this fan space, I posit that Ghaleon is morosexual and it's Dyne's moments of absolute head-empty stupidity that drive him completely mad with lust. :3

I think I started this shrinky dink sometime in mid-2020? I got the lines traced out and then promptly put it away for a couple years, until I had the sudden random urge to finish it about a month or so ago.

I never know what to do with shrinky dinks, they're fun to make but like how do I display them? I guess I could make this one into a standee if I make a base for it… That might have been what I was planning to do, actually? Hrmm.

Ahaha I had a whole post in my head, but it was basically gone by the time these uploaded. Maybe if I just start typing I'll remember some of it? Back in Jan I spontaneously decided I wanted to try aping Akari Funato's style for fun. I've admired her Lunar work for years but I'd never actually gone and sat down and done direct style studies from her art before--so I did just that, flipped thru my copy of Vheen and sketched some of my favorite Dyne and Ghaleon expressions!

The images above are all directly referenced from Funato-san's panels. I got the hang of how she drew Dyne relatively quickly, but Ghaleon took a bit more practice before I felt confident I'd caught the subtlety of emotion she puts into his face.

Then I put all my references away and did a bunch of "blind" sketching to see what I'd retained from a handful of hours of studies:

At this point I was satisfied with what I'd learned and decided to put it to use on R. Ballien's section of the Jan Patron Shout-out Drawing: 

Of course I don't often see Funato-san picking super bold, Lisa Frank-esque color pallets, but I'm real happy with how this turned out! XD At some point tho I wanna do some digital studies of Funato-san's coloring style.

It's always so rewarding to take a day to just dive deep into studying another artist's style, I super recommend it if you're ever feeling art blocked or out of ideas. :3

Whoops this took longer to make than I expected! I started it at the beginning of the month, with a simple and sensible format--and then I decided I wanted a strong tiger theme, cuz I was born in the year of the tiger and I get excited when a tiger year rolls in again 😸

I was gonna have a Lisa Frank-esque rainbow tiger print in the background, but I decided that was going to be way too busy and settled for a tiger-orange background square ahahahaha 🐅

On a Lunar kick

While sorting through all my chaotic paper stuff and old art, I've been collecting together odd sized scraps of art paper that either got cropped off some bigger work or that I must have dumpster dived out of the studio recycling when I was still working on my MFA about a decade ago. This is my adhd way to explain why the majority of my recent artwork has been on oddly shaped bits of paper, like this long scrap of rough watercolor paper here! I got thinking about Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete again recently, and a desire for some Laike/Ghaleon fluff resulted in this. 😳 And then this drawing lead to several days of hyperfocus fleshing out an AU post-game fan comic script, which I fully intend on drawing at some point soon. Cuz life's too short to not make self-indulgent fan comics about your favorite video game villain being spared from death at the cost of his freedom (but it's okay because his "best friend" has pledged to be his warden huhuhuhuhuu), and gradually repair some of the connections he had severed during his villainous rampage. >:3c ...is this a weird thing to make my first Patreon post about? Eh. Eventually I'll scan this and fix a few places that got wonked (the window, and whatever the hell happened to Laike's back) but for a spontaneous doodle on a scrap of waste paper, I'm happy.

Preview for my AU comic: Dyne and Ghaleon have moved in together and raise some chickens. At first it's just fun to take care of some funky birds, but eventually they have to put up a sign by their front door--"NO ONE LEAVES WITHOUT EGGS!"
