does this surprise people, i wonder... gerita i think is fine! it's the reason i got into hetalia, actually... i saw cute fanart and simply had to know more and i loved it when i first got into the fandom. i hated it for a long time for Many Reasons but now i'm over it and think it's cute and interesting enough :3 just not one of my fave ita pairings. i can be a bit picky with how it's portrayed, so i mostly stick to me myself and i's interpretation of it. there are a few gerita fics i've read that i particularly like, though. maybe i'll rec them sometime ♡

when i was solely a davekat fanfic reader on ao3 i was rarely ever starved for content like every day tons of high quality, novel-length intriguing fics were updated and i was eating GOOD. there was exactly 2 times i had a ‘davekat drought’ but those only lasted like.. a week. now that i’m a hetalia fan, every day is a drought on ao3 as well as a warzone. i dont often find a fic im interested in and when i do? either the author just HAD to include spamano bullshit or write other weird shit . i always have to check peoples profiles because i refuse to read anything from usuk-ers or spamano-ers. shoutout to all normal hetalia authors though i love you guys you do a very important service to me. i would write my own stuff but i havent had the motivation lately but just you bitches wait. my fruk fic ive been brainstorming will be real. eventually. My thoughts: I’d recommend watching/playing HetaOni before reading this one, since it’s a continuation of it and all. So, I don’t read a lot continuations like this, I will say. HetaOni is already such an iconic story that I’m afraid to dilute the experience. We’re not going to get a part two for the game, and I’m fine with that. I’d rather have experienced part one without part two than never have had part one at all. Getting to experience part one was sick as fuck. But I had recently replayed the game and, for once, was looking for something more than my own contemplation over what might have happened (the use of many types of fics). So I found this one, and WOW I was blown away. I could not put it down until I was finished. It was so emotional, and included the threads from the game into a very clever speculation on what the heck might have been the rest of their story. It took all the characters into consideration, and considered the trauma of the mansion. If you love HetaOni, check it out!

My thoughts: Y’all are gonna think I’m really fucked up for recommending this one. It’s dark. And their relationship is... a bit... unhealthy for a good part of it. But it’s impossible to put down when you’re reading it and it’s an excellent story. I always love a story that leaves me with question after question because it provides excellent tension and engagement. And there is Character Development, y’all. If there wasn’t, it’d be way more concerning that I like it haha, but the characters learn and grow and I love that stuff. It makes you think about second chances and the extent to which someone deserves one and how that varies with different people. Everything about this is just very interesting and makes you think. And also want to cry. Beautiful story!

Tesoro Mio by Spinyfruit

Summary: Antonio's the charming, handsome farmer with an infuriating Spanish accent, and Lovino is the mysterious wine entrepreneur who comes and goes. When Antonio falls in love, he throws society, expectations, and religion to the wayside, but can a strict Catholic like Lovino do the same?

My thoughts: The master of Spamano: Spinyfruit. This author writes them so well, with such interesting, heart-wrenching stories. Tesoro Mio takes place largely on a vineyard Lovino’s family owns, and where Antonio works. It’s a beautiful slow burn. Like the type of romance that leaves you giggling and your heart big and then angst swoops in and your clutching the phone tight bc shit you can’t handle this why did you think you could handle this- It’s about falling in love and accepting that love. I don’t know how else to explain it other than... it’s beautiful. 

It’s just going to be you and me by ButterFish

Status: Completed on FFN

Summary: Alfred thinks he's going insane; he keeps dreaming about a green-eyed guy, he hears voices and he keeps finding long, white feathers everywhere. Is the angel Arthur that is haunting his dreams real or is he making it all up?

My thoughts: I don’t know how to review this one without giving major spoilers. It’s... dark. It’s really difficult to read at times because there is a lot of talk and depiction of death and suicidal ideation. It’s one of my fave fics ever, but it’s super triggering, so Do Not Read It if you’re even a little unsure. It’s super mysterious, leaving you guessing what is going on and what is to come throughout the entire thing. It’s very suspenseful. I’m always on the edge of my seat when I read it, despite knowing what’s going to happen in rereads. It’s just as impactful on a reread as it is during the original. This is one of those fics where you’re screaming the entire way through, and, if you’re not, then you’re in deathly silence. The kind of silence where you feel like the world is going to shatter if you break it. All of Alfred’s thoughts and feelings just feel so real in this fic and it’s captivating. It’s a big time recommendation for me, so, if you think you’re in the right headspace for something dark and stressful, check it out.

My thoughts: I remember when a friend of mine recommended this fic to me, and it’s been with me for so long that I must recommend it to you! These boys are so sweet on each other, and it’s easy to tell, even when they aren’t in the same room. And that’s crucial to this fic. There is so much longing in this omg. If your heart doesn’t explode by the end then idk what to say. And there’s so many spots in this fic that will make you scream. For various reasons. Like, I’ve reread it a lot and I never stop screaming, even while I know what’s going on. This one’s the shortest on this list, but not necessarily Short. If you want something to occupy your evening, I’d say give this one a go!

There he meets a man named Arthur, who ends up helping him recover from wounds he didn't even know he had. (note: warmed my weeb heart)

Unexpected : Rated T, 5.7k words, One-shot, Humor/Drama, Complete World Academy. When Arthur was asked to tutor the star of the American Football team, he expected several things. Sitting in an apartment full of Asian children was not one of them. (cute!)

The Invitational Year : Rated M, 208k words, 41 chapters, Romance/Drama, Complete Alfred is an awkward dork, despite the fact his dad is President. Arthur is a member of British royalty, and he's a perfectionist loner. Both boys are given an invitation to attend the prestigious World Academy and, naturally, they're roomies. (note: A favorite of mine! Quite long but very much worth it. Highschool AU. Can be silly yet dramatic. Anyways, you should read it! Viewer discretion due to sexual themes)

The Sophomore Year : Rated M, 173k words, 34 chapter, Romance/Drama, Complete After meeting at boarding school, Alfred and Arthur became unlikely friends and then lovers. Now, they'll face their sophomore year in America and all the challenges that come with being young, famous, and madly in love. (note: sequal to The Invitational Year)

And All That Jazz : Rated M, 98k words, 22 chapters, Romance, Complete Alfred is approached by the Student Body President, Arthur, for help on his math exam. They hate each other, but maybe opposites can attract with the help of something unexpected. (note: I love this fic. Highschool AU. Also involves music...cuz liek yknow the title)

At the tournament, he befriends the mysterious Alfred- a fellow competitor who is equally determined to win. As he and Alfred grow closer, he begins to question what is more important to him: his family's respect... or Alfred.

Flirting with Failure : Rated T, 2k words, One-shot, Romance/Humor, Complete Alfred just wanted to get one date with Arthur Kirkland before the semester ended. To do that he had to speak with him. Thus, he was set up for failure.

Hero Frequency : Rated T, 12k words, 3 chapters, Romance/Humor, Incomplete America's got the coolest and most awesome band in school, and he's totally going to win the Battle of the Bands contest. Or at least he might, if he can get England to put aside their past issues long enough to play guitar...

The Gentleman and the Hero : Rated T, 57k words, 21 chapters, Romance, Complete World Academy students have been paired up for an anonymous email exchange program, so they can talk to someone about school and personal problems in private. These are the emails of two students nicknamed 'The Gentleman' and 'The Hero'. (note: I also love this. I find it very cute and also very in character. I want an email buddy lol. Highschool AU)

Breathless : Rated T, 35k words, 4 chapters, Angst/Hurt/Comfort, Complete Arthur Kirkland never thought that golden boy Alfred Jones would ever have a reason to attempt suicide. Then again, how much did he really know about the oh so popular blonde? The rumor mill would surely chew him up and spit him out. (note: p sure this is another favorite of mine. Though angsty, I really enjoyed the development between the two. Highschool AU. Really great read!!)

Static : Rated T, 45k words, 9 chapters, Drama/Romance, Incomplete Sequel to Breathless. Arthur always thought that the incident with Alfred's arms would forever be the biggest hurdle their friendship would face. But as the looks change and the touches linger, it becomes frightfully clear that he was dead wrong about that. (note: continues after Breathless, but not finished ): worth the read anyway)

Ask Me Anything : Rated T, 7k words, One-shot, Romance/Humor, Complete Alfred starts to follow Arthur on tumblr. It's not long until they become friends... and possibly more.

The Cost of Affection : Rated M, 61k words, 32 chapters, Angst/Romance, Incomplete Being a whore is easy: all Arthur has to do is spread his legs and take the money. He doesn't have to face his past; nor does he have to deal with love. And for good reason - because when he does fall head-over-heels for someone, he's forced to realize that his sins go beyond prostitution, and that even as he rediscovers himself, his past is coming back to haunt him after all.

You Can’t Take the Sky Away From Me : Rated T, 113k words, 32 chapters, Adventure/Romance, Incomplete Ace pilot America is on a mission for the World Military when a chance encounter with a group of sky-pirates leads him to team up with their captain, England, against a malevolent group that wants to fill the sky with zeppelins. (note: Steampunk AU. This is a really cool fic!)

We’ll Meet Again : Rated M, 43k words, 13 chapters, Romance/Angst, Complete WW2 AU. London pub owner Arthur Kirkland is driven to distraction by loud, brash American fighter pilot Alfred Jones. Unable to stop it, Arthur finds himself falling for Alfred's charms... just as the pilot is preparing to leave for war. (note: a hetalia fandom clASSIC. MUST READ. unfortunately the OG fics were deleted so someone reposted it, giving credit to the OG author George deValier. this will rip ur heart out n tape it poorly back together)

AmeViet (yes, Vietnam!)

Hard to Get : Rated T, 57k words, 20 chapters, Adventure/Romance, Complete During World War Two, serious, limited Vietnam meets the boisterous America. Amid fighting, friendship, and stress, America tries to get Vietnam to like him, but she won't let that happen. Or will she? (note: One of my all-time favorites, unforgettable. I can never find fics of this pairing, it’s so hard! But this is a really great fic, highly recommend. also after learning more about Vietnam history, i might give this yet ANOTHER re-read with my new perspectives)

Of Broken Promises and the Taste of Freedom : Rated T, 1.4k words, One-shot, Hurt/Comfort/Romance, Complete Vaguely, Vietnam wondered if this was what freedom tasted like. If perhaps, the hot waves that crashed through her body and set her skin on fire was what it was like to know that you are truly free.

(note: It might seem like I have lots of favorites, cuz I do and this is one of them. Warning, I cried a lot towards the end. Highly recommend)

There’s a GerIta dj where Germany’s feelings are embodied through a bouquet of flowers and whenever he feels sad or misses Italy they will look droopy, and when he feels delighted and loving the flowers would magically bloom and multiply. The most beautiful part is that the flowers haven’t wilted for decades and never will wilt, because neither would Germany’s feelings for Italy fade

The second fic is a Kagehina fic where Hinata sprouted a plant from his hair but only Kageyama can see it. If he tried to pull it, it’ll hurt Hinata as if it was part of his body. Whenever Hinata felt happy or proud of his spikes the twigs would grow leaves or even buds when Kageyama praised him and when he was disappointed the leaves would fall off. It made Kageyama wonder what would blossom from them if given the chance

One of my favourite fics of all time, I’ve read this more times than I can count. Gilbert finds out he has a brother and goes on a hunt to find him and meet him and when he does he tries his best to become his family. Full of angst and drama with a little fluff too.

i dont tend 2 read fanfics n when i do its mostly on the subway to n from different things so i mostly only read one-shots (i hope ur not looking for anything multi-chapter lol). but yea its hard to find good gerita but when u do it is SO GOOD. here r my favs: - We Do Not Speak of Berlusconi at the Table by puella_nerdii Summary by author: "Italy invites Germany and Prussia over for Sunday lunch. Romano disapproves, Prussia displays questionable taste in paintings, and Germany will not let go of the mandelbrot." This is one of my fav fics, if not MY FAV. How to describe it except brilliant, amazing, talented, showstopping. The characterisation is amazing, Veneziano, as the good host he is, desperately wants everything to be perfect for Germany and Prussia, Romano doesn't share the sentiment. Germany wants the dinner to be perfect for Veneziano's sake, Prussia doesn't share the sentiment. Prussia and Romano play off each other so perfectly and everything is just exactly how i envision them, love it sm. - Salvatore by MudaMuda Summary by author: "Being stranded on an island gives Veneziano an excuse to do nothing but lay around naked and tan. And to tease Germany." The fic that made me n Arcade lose it. Exactly what it says in the summary. - Taste of an Apple in a Dream by Unknown. Summary: "I’m a sickly child with a sack too full of dreams, I know that. A stubborn brat living a bitter life." This one is more HRE-centric with a bit of HRE/Italy from first pov which Im usually not a fan of but this one is amazing (as you've noticed I'm horrible at putting my feelings into thoughts). also what i like about this hre fic is that it doesn't establish hre as becoming germany, bc i personally don't think germany n hre r the same person. anyway next. - Dating Advice for Germans and Americans by ElapsingSpiral. Summary by author: “Ludwig and Alfred have one thing in common: questionable taste in the people they turn to for expert dating advice.” Ok so one multi-chaptered one lmao. It contains UsUK which I don't like but Im willing to put up with it for the good n perfect GerIta dynamic, also i love Germany n England's friendship <3<3 i think they have the potential 2 b best buds. (there is some talk of the iron cross tho x_X but UGH with the lack of good gerita content u have to take what u can get, its nothing big tho super minor). anyway i just love germany experiencing problems in his relationships n turning to england instead of just talking to vene lmaooo also gerita arguing over interior design is so real. this fic is so good n hilarious. my fav part: “”Did you pick a method?" Arthur frowned in thought then gave a nod of understanding, "Oh, of how I want to die? No. I'd prefer not to, actually, if that's alright. You see, I-" Mid-sentence, the German made a lunge for him and Arthur opted to jog backward down the hall, quickly turning about as he made the living room and darting around the back of his sofa. The German stood on the other side of the chair and continued to stare him down, looking to Arthur not unlike a guard dog that had cornered a robber. "Arthur.
