Book Review: Lapidarium - The Secret Lives Of Stones by Hettie Judah
If, like me, you are interested in gemstones, not just for the pretty shininess of them but for their properties and nature then this book by Hettie Judah is a must for your gemmology library. Following a 3,000 year old tradition, which can be traced back to the Babylonians, Lapidarium is a catalogue of 60 gemstones, their history and their secrets. This book covers some little known facts about…

Hi! Saw your tags on the post about Ruby and Espeon both being carbuncles, are you willing to share what books on the mythology of rocks you ended up reading as part of your research? Also good luck if you're still looking!
Though it sadly held very little info on the carbuncle, Gemlore: Ancient Secrets and Modern Myths From the Stone Age to the Rock Age by Diane Morgan was a good starting point. Crystal: Lore, Legends & Myths by Athena Perrakis is also a well compiled set of tales about gems, though it's worth noting the author runs one of the largest spiritual crystal healing companies in the US, and it definitely bleeds through into the tone of the book. (Not a bad thing, just two authors with different approaches to the field.)

Heyo folks, here's a new review that released yesterday. In this one I'm covering an indie side-scrolling adventure game called The Land of Crows by Gemlore.
Truth be told, I wound up being a bit mixed on this game. It's filled with Polish history, which I found pretty interesting since I'm not familiar with a lot of it. The history wound up popping up in the middle of story conversations which immediately killed the pacing and it began feeling like a history lecture more than a horror adventure game. I'll also admit that I almost fell asleep while playing it a few times. Not the greatest experience I've had with an adventure game to say the least.
More reviews soon!

✏️ [ Hi yes hello, any muse-]
Send me a ✏️ and I’ll tell you a headcanon I have for YOUR muse!
((Imma do more than one of your muse because I am obsessed-
Jayde strikes me as someone that is an absolute nerd about symbolisms. Language of flowers, gemlore, colors, animals, etc. With people he interacts with, he finds himself associating them with certain things. And if he wants to send a message or express himself to someone, he will leave behind tangible symbols. Roses for his significant others steel jewelry for Reaper, rotten fruit and veggies for Vulcain, a stuffed animal of whatever he assiciate with Nikei for her, etc. His affinity for symbolism results in him being rather artistic with poetry, illustrations, and even forms of scupting when he has the time. His works tend to be rather abstract unless you're familiar with the symbolism he uses in his pieces.
Harper can also be rather artistic, though not as often since she often gets caught up in other things. And her artistic field usually lies in poetry and caligraphy. Though her poetry is filled with less metaphores than her brother's, her poetry can still come off as abstract because... well... her experiences are pretty abstract. And they are often wrought with extistentialism and elritch horror. She's also got god like penmenship in general. She can even forge if she so chose to. Especially 115's penmanship, because she's often signing his paperwork on his behalf. She also keeps two journals, one for the current timeline and one for what she sees of other timelines. Just to make sure she can keep track of what's what, because you have to imagine that all the time stuff might scramble you a bit, you know?
I've always had the headcanon that Charlie and Lilith give any 'cubi that stops by unable to find someone to feed off of snacks. Catherine takes this a step further and cooks for them, whether at her own place, or at the palace. Of course, she started with simple things before slowly working to more complex dishes, and even creating her own recipies. Occassionally she'd also feed the hungry sinners whose forms indicated they were scorned women in life. All of that ended up culminating in her work on Earth that she's known for to this day.
You wouldn't know this unless you were close to him, but Hawk hugs with not only his arms, but his wings as well. Though wings are technically arms for birds, but you know what I mean- Anyways, little to say, his hugs are godly. If you're tiny enough he can completely envelope you and now your entire world is warm strong arms and soff feathers. Again, though, you have to be close to him. Like. Really close to him. He's not a hugger otherwise.))

Westerosi Gems Part 2: The Sequel
So, uh, the first post blew up on me. I thought I’d share some more. Part 1 is here:
http://blenderbender1811.tumblr.com/post/182116584170/a-while-ago-just-for-fun-i-was-talking-to
House Bolton - Pyrope garnets. @mrsjadecurtiss suggested garnets and I definitely agree. Not only does Ramsay wear garnets in the books, but pyrope garnets are quite dark and look like blood. That said, what really appeals to me about garnets is this line from Tywin Lannister - “Garnets lack the fire [of rubies]”. The Boltons think they can control the North (like the ruby wearing Targaryens ruled the Seven Kingdoms) but they are DOOMED. There’s no version of this story where they’re going to come out on top. They lack the proper ability, or ‘fire’ to be a good lord, never mind a good ruler. They’re durable though. It’s hard to break them, and I suspect it’ll be hard to break the Boltons in the books.
House Tarth - Blue sapphires. Again, otherwise, what am I even doing here? For so many reasons - the Tarths are famed for their beautiful blue waters, Brienne’s big blue eyes, ‘Brienne the Blue’ of Renly’s kings guard, sapphire are strong as hell, and in gemlore, they often represent love, loyalty, truth, and sincerity. Brienne’s a romantic if ever there is or was one. Not just for romantic love, either - though she IS heavily shaped by her romantic interests in Renly and (I believe) Jaime. She’s also heavily into the romantic image of brave knights fighting honourably and bravely and carrying out their duty - look how hard she searches for Sansa for Catelyn, even though Catelyn is DEAD. Look at how she believes in the knight’s vow to defend the weak and helpless, even when she knows she can’t win. ‘No chance and no choice’, indeed. It’s also supposed to bring peace to the wearer and I think Brienne feels most at peace at Tarth, with her father.
House Redwyne - Amethyst. It’s a stone of sobriety in gemlore. Seems like it’d come in handy for the makers of Arbor gold. ;) Plus the dark purple many amethysts have matches their sigil.
House Dondarrion - Purple spinel. It’s one of the most durable gems, it’s light purple, and it’s name means ‘spark’ which reminds me of lightning.
House Harlaw - Iolite. Yeah, I know, I’m immediately breaking my own rule about the iron born using stuff from the sea. Hush. :P My reasoning is that iolite was used by vikings as a polarizing filter to find the sun on cloudy days to make navigation safer. I thought that sort of cleverness and the difference between that and the shells taken from the sea would work with Rodrik the Reader’s disagreement with Balon and the Old way of the Ironborn, as well as his own cleverness.
House Reed - Peat is one of the most valuable resources in a swamp. I thought it made sense to make peat their ring.
House Dayne - Purple star sapphires. Again, sapphires are strong and starred ones are often lavender, like their sigil’s field. The star hails back to the meteor where they got Dawn from. They’re also very rare, which makes me think of how much we still don’t know about the Dayne’s roll in the backstory of all this.
House Westerling - Smoky quartz. It’s relatively cheap - which is good for a house in some serious genteel poverty. It also used to be used to make crystal balls, which reminds me of Maggy the Frog, the fortune teller in the Westerling’s family tree. It ranges from nearly transparent to nearly black in tone, like the Westerlings range in sincerity in their commitment to Robb. It’s also considered closer to the Earth, so while it’s not an organic gem, it’s in the spirit of what I’m looking for for houses with a strong connection to their First Men roots.
House Royce - Plain bronze bands. I imagine they wouldn’t want anything to distract from the luck they believe bronze gives them, or from their First men roots. That’s where a lot of their pride comes in, and it’s something I want to showcase for the Royces.
House Clegane - Black tourmaline. It matches it’s sigil and in gemlore, it’s supposed to be good for dog’s health. Seems like something that a house so associated with dogs would go for. Besides, Sandor likes dogs. :P
House Baelish - Traditionally, it’s supposed to be carnelian. It’s supposed to protect you from poverty and bring you good luck. I believe Petyr uses pyrite more, personally, as it is associated with enthusiasm and ambition and Petyr is nothing if not a social climber aiming for the top.
And this is slightly off topic but here - MOST COMMON SETTINGS PER REGION
North - Bronze. Again, it’s the First men and old gods connection. I imagine some of those outside the North who have strong First Men connections use it as well, but that it’s most common here.
Riverlands - Stainless steel. They get conquered a LOT and attacked a LOT before the Targaryens show up. The steel speaks to fighting to defend or free themselves and the stainless steel, specifically, speaks of wealth to me.
Vale - Platinum. Platinum is long lasting and doesn’t have as many problems with wear. That is perfect for the traditional and stiff Vale of Arryn.
Crownlands - Palladium. They’re white, which reminds me of the Faith and the Great Sept, it’s scratch resistant, it’s expensive (perfect for close to the crown) and it would go well with pretty much any house ring. I was initially thinking Valyrian steel, because of the connection with the Targaryens but a) Not enough Valyrian steel for that to be sustainable and b) Robert’s in power.
Narrow Sea - Obsidian. There’s so much of it on Dragonstone, it’s the most convenient material for ring setting.
Stormlands - Titanium. It’s associated with strength and resilience, and I think that fits the martial region that survives the fury of two gods regularly.
Reach - Rose gold. It’s still gold, but it’s got the Tyrell connection.
Westerlands - Yellow gold and silver. These are WESTERMEN. They EPITOMIZE wearable wealth.
Dorne - Copper. They use it a lot for their armour, why not their jewellery?
Iron Islands - Iron. For so many reasons, iron.

how would Mollymauk feel about the fact that Caleb and Beau fuse into a Rainbow Quartz, kinda like him, despite the two gems individually being very unlike him? pride?
Ohhhhhhh good QUESTION
tbh I’m not super in tune with Mollymauk’s canon characterization, but I’m caught between him being aggressively ‘oh that’s neat, they can do whatever’ - generally being a good sport about it - and like a weird sort of? idk, jealousy? is molly jealous? like the idea that the team would need A Different Rainbow Quartz to do a job bc he doesn’t have the skills to when he,, should? maybe? He IS off color after all?
there are some members of the nein that i dont focus on super hard and molly was one of them, but like i think tomorrow i can probably toss more gemlore together for him and get a clearer picture bc that is an INTERESTING Q HMMM

I had a headcanon-y daydream about your gemlore earlier today, tell me what you think. What if sometime after Red successfully or nearly finishes colonizing (or hollowing out) Ni'Vallah she collects Ni'Vallians like Pink did- but instead of a Zoo its more like a preserving maximum prison kind of thing, solely out of rage or sadness for what they did to her Pearl. Like maybe she had her Gems keep them in suspended animation or frozen- as vengeance and as an example.
Thats very dark and vindictive, but it could be  possible, her curiosity for organic life was one of the only things she had in common with her predecessor pink, Perhaps in time she too could have come to appreciate them, however after the incident where they attacked her she’s become somewhat wary, even  if she discovers her pearl still exist the damage has been done, yellow might see preserving them as a waste of resources but if red wills it  could be possible.

Unpopular opinion, but the new shit surrounding Pearl and being physically unable to tell gemlore is nothing but a dull ass plot device that the Crewniverse reached out of their ass to extend the already 2,000 long wait period for homeworld info. Listen Becky, it's fucking boring bitch, if you keep avoiding to tell us what we should of known before no one will give two shits. Hurry up

DID YOU KNOW :
The trace elements found in the mineral corundum produces the color in sapphire gemstones. Iron, titanium, and trace elements of chromium can be found in classic blue sapphire which also aids the gemstone to form different colors like pink and red.
Also, the word sapphire is derived from the Latin and Greek words for “blue”: sapphirus and sappheiros. Know more about the gemstone in detail on the education of Shoplc.
