I’m making a game. Not just starting out... I’ve been working on this for about 6 months now. I think of June 1, 2022 as my official start date. It’s not my first attempt at a game. I made two half-games before this one. But this, this is the game that I will see to the finish line.

My game is officially untitled. I have a title in mind, but I’m not going to reveal it yet. And this isn’t the final environment look, but any means. This is my level zero. My prototype. I’ve been using the word prototype a lot -- ad nauseam, in fact -- and I’m sticking with it. Project title “PROTO.”

Check out the video link above. It’s my latest video post, as of this writing. I’ve been posting lots of -- probably too much -- progress videos to vimeo. A smarter guy might be posting them to youTube, but here I am on vimeo and tumblr. Asking to be ignored! Haha.

As I type that last comment it’s hit home just how much of an uphill battle this really will be. I’m going to need your help. Everyone’s help. Please tell your friends, your cousins, your kids. Your nieces and nephews and anyone who loves making fun. And please, join my mailing list.

The Callisto Protocol has failed to pass CERO certification, meaning the game won’t be released or sold in Japan

The Callisto Protocol, a game set to be released on December the 2nd of this year by Striking Distance Studios, have announced via twitter that they are no longer able to release the game in Japan, after having failed to pass CERO certification due to its “excessive violent content”.

According to their website, “The rating by CERO covers the computer and video games for household use (including cellular phone-type games) sold in Japan”.

The studio explained via twitter that in order to make the game availiable for release in Japan, they would have to make a number of changes to the game’s content, in which they believed “would not reflect the experience expected of players”. They did promise, however, that anyone in Japan that pre-ordered the game would be getting refunded.

Direct Translation: "The Callisto Protocol" The Japanese version has been discontinued. Currently, it cannot pass the CERO rating, and we decided that if we changed the content, we would not be able to provide the experience players expected. I would appreciate it if you could understand the Japanese people. Refunds will be issued to those who have pre-ordered”

I started playing Ni no Kuni 2 a few days ago having played the first game but entirely blind to everything about the sequel except that the main character was a catboy, and this was absolutely the best way to play it because nothing could have prepared me for the experience of turning the game on, pressing the start button, and finding out what the real premise was.

Game Blog - The Convenience Store

So um, when I first played this game I found it mildly hilarious yet still effective in various ways. You play as a female student who has just taken on a part time night shift at a local convenience store. As someone who admires Eastern cultures and Asian aesthetics I found the ritualistic mundane inducing walk from your character’s apartment to the convenience store to be rather pleasant. With the exception of certain areas being excessively dark making it a little hard to navigate even with the flashlight. I know I ran into a few walls here or there occasionally. I enjoyed the story’s narrative and the characters were versatile and the dialogue was unnerving at times. However, considering that it is a paranormal Asian based horror game, probably the intention. The jump scares were subtle enough to not be super in your face but enough to make you almost feel as if you could feel the anxiety the character herself was likely feeling.

The controls were self explanatory, which is always good for a game to have in general. Its ability to lull its players into a false sense of security was really well executed. I really enjoy this kind of thing in horror games depending on how well it’s done. You could tell that a good amount of effort went into the game overall there were no bugs or glitches it ran smoothly. I enjoyed the story, the characters, the scenery, the gameplay, the dialogue was fun to read and the option for whether or not you wanted to have the camera effect filter on was a good idea. I only wish there was a gamma slider to change the brightness just enough to really see where you’re going other than that I absolutely had fun playing this game. If you want to play it yourself I think it’s a really fun experience to go through if you like paranormal horror. Ironically it was made by the same developer as Night Delivery which I also liked a lot.

Sometimes you want to test out things, but realize you set object variables a little bit too high.. 😅

So yes, here I was trying a few variables on these small spiders animation and I guess I used too high values.. 😅
