Shadow: *reaches for Four's wallet*

Inn keeper: BEHIND YOU

Four: *turns around as fast as he can*

Shadow: *is gone*

Inn keeper: I swear there was someone there trying to take your wallet!

Four: *squints suspiciously*

Four: *enters his room for the night* good job, Shadow *hands over bag of snacks*

Shadow: *happily munches on his hard earned snack*

[Sorry this was late, but it gave me an idea.]

The night was chilly, more so now that the moon barely shone from behind the clouds. Vio was looking out from one of Hyrule Castle’s towers, just watching the town below as the night continued. The quiet gave him time to think, even if his thoughts always seemed to drift to Shadow.

He had managed to bring him back from the Dark World, letting him be his own person without being tied to a dark mirror. At first, he had thought this would be a good thing, that Shadow was free to do what he wanted now and be the hero he was always supposed to be. Even if that meant Vio wouldn’t be welcome back in his life.

Shadow had stayed though, and Vio kept his distance. Shadow probably hated him anyway, after everything he had done to him, it only made logical sense. So why then did his chest always hurt after such thoughts?

Soft footsteps approached his place at the tower wall, but Vio didn’t turn around. He could guess who it could be anyway. He was proven correct when Shadow drifted closer, crossing his arms to rest his chin on them as he leaned on the wall next to Vio. Vio said nothing, only glancing at Shadow out of the corner of his eye.

Shadow kept glancing at him, Vio could feel his eyes on him. He could feel his chest contristing as the quiet continued, just wondering how long it would last. Then Shadow sighed.

“Remember when you used to care?”

Vio made a questioning noise, turning to see Shadow looking back at him with a sad look in his eyes.

“I know you were probably just pretending, but back at the Fire Temple when you would talk to me, even just hang out with me. You always at least pretended to care, even if it wasn’t genuine,” Shadow looked back to the town, “Now though, you’re avoiding me and not even acting like you want me here.”

Vio felt his heart fall and willed away the pain as he turned to Shadow fully.

“I do want you here, but I guess I assumed that you didn’t want me anywhere near you after everything… I’m not expecting you to forgive me, I just hope that you’re happy now. That’s really all I want.”

Shadow chuckled, but it sounded humorless, empty. Vio could see tears brimming in Shadow’s eyes.

“For being the smart one, you’re pretty dumb.”

Vio tilted his head and Shadow laughed again, getting closer and finally leaning against Vio.

“I’d be happier if you were with me.”

Vio smiled then, wrapping his arms around Shadow.

“That can be arranged. I missed you so much,” Vio said, voice muffled against Shadow’s hair.

“I’m here now, so let’s not push each other away. I care about you, okay?”

“And even if I can’t show it very well, I care about you so much. I never stopped caring.”

Four’s Shadow 💜

Cleaning out my old files and discovered that I drew this two whole years ago and just… never posted it 🙃. Now I need to go searching for more lost arts.

(I know Shadow isn’t canon to LU, but I’ve been a fan of the FSA manga for more than a decade and I can’t not include it in my vision of the Zelda franchise. Shadow is therefore canon to the Wisdomverse and The Secrets We Keep 😇.)

I’ve gotten comments on how FSA happened if Forge is bad at lying. Forge also didn’t know how he got away with it for so long. The simple answer is that Shadow is absolutely blind when it comes to Forge specifically. He’s generally decent at figuring out lies from literally anyone else, but he never quite expects it from Forge, so he never sees it.
