The poplar tree is nearly twice as tall as the house, now. I can't believe I planted that! It gives the house shade in the morning, and helps delay it heating up in here on summer days.

Planted this silver maple, too; it came up as a volunteer in one of my flower beds. The blue bar beside it is about my height. It's directly between my kitchen and the sunrise in late summer, and mitigates the brightness somewhat. It's sobering to think how much longer they will live than I will.

FFXIV Polyamory week - Prompt #2 - Domestic Life

Doing chores is definitely more fun if you can do it together, and while Lehon'a enjoys sweeping out the chocobo stable herself just fine, getting to talk with her partners while she does it is a newfound luxury. Not to mention getting the garden work done at the same time, too! It's as the saying goes: "Many hands make light work." Now if only she could stay focused...

(Bonus uh... gratuitous G'raha shot under the cut)

Had fun with this one! In hindsight I maybe should've put Felicitas (her chocobo) in the stable to make it clearer what exactly it is, but... you can't really sweep out the stable with the animal in question standing in it, so it works for me. (Also G'raha in the cutoffs got me acting unwise)

April 2024: The First Week

Someone in the neighborhood was giving away "fill dirt" so we have two garbage cans full of free dirt:

Breakfast burrito - bacon, scrambled eggs, lettuce with homegrown cilantro & chives. The pale purple bits are the diced chive blossoms. You could seriously be a "gourmet" if you started to listen to what your grandmother & grandmothers around the world were desperately trying to teach you:

#I know which window held the sunflowers I wrote poems about #I know what your blundstones looked like kicked off on this patio #I know what this yard looked like when it was still a yard and not a driveway #covered in horrible fake grass where I learned how to play cricket #and felt so alive as I hit it out of the park #I know what this front porch looked like when it was filled with plants and a giant mirror and life and you wrapped me up in a huge blanket #and made me raisin toast #I know the layout of the inside #I know where the toaster oven is kept in the kitchen and I know the stove is too small to make industrial quantities of jam #I know which brick has the spare key and I know what it felt like in my jet lagged hands as I picked it up and went inside to wait for you #I know what this yard felt like when we cut up strawberries at a trashy little folding table in the sunlight #the scenes all play out before my eyes #I know it all because it lived in my dreams for so long #the way I’d come back and I’d knock on your door and you’d have me #it was all I dreamed about and the thing I wrote poems about as I felt it slipping out of my fingers as we forgot each other #and now I sit here and everything has changed #it’s quite beautiful how much sadder it looks now thanks to the gift of time and new tenants and the loss of a lot of spellbound magic #but the way the universe changed me inside that house #will be there forever

i live right along a real busy street so usually birds dont roost in the tree under my window but rn a little songbird is roosting and singing and it makes me feel so serene i wanna cry
