Friday Forecast
Astrology of the Week Ahead: 12/02-12/08
Read the unabridged version of the weekly forecast (with full transit details) on my blog here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fri 12/02-Sat 12/03: a spicy waxing gibbous Moon in Aries is ready to light some fireworks. take some time to let loose and have fun—chasing enjoyment can teach you just as much as getting work done 🕺🏽
on Saturday, let your curious mind guide you toward inspired action. put yourself out there, share your vision, and show others what you really want 📍
Sun 12/04-Mon 12/05: the waxing gibbous Moon in Taurus provides an opportunity to dig our heels into the dirt and really make room in our garden—is there anything that still needs to be weeded out? Are we adequately watering the seeds we want to grow? 🌱
Last week we were confronted with our fear of audacity—if you’ve worked it out since then, now is the time speak up. Be steady and blunt as you vocalize the things you desire—you may find that others receive your honesty in surprising ways 🫣
Tue 12/06-Wed 12/07: The waxing phase reaches its culmination as the Moon enters Gemini. Shortly thereafter, Gemini’s manager, Mercury, leaves Jupiter’s warm lecture hall of Sagittarius to enter Saturn’s stony lighthouse of Capricorn. Whatever we’ve been theorizing and debating about ? it’s about to be put to test in the field—is it ready to withstand the crashing waves? Only one way to find out 🌊
Wednesday evening (20:09 PST) hosts the Full Moon in Gemini with the Moon exactly conjunct Mars rx. The orchestra reaches a crescendo, the bell tower rings, and you can hear the Greek choir swell up (whether it’s a comedy or a tragedy is up to you) as a path is illuminated in your Gemini house. Everything you’ve been working and reworking since August 20, 2022 suddenly clicks into place, and your way forward becomes clear to you 🛤
Thu 12/08: the Moon spends most of the day in Gemini, finishing out the revelations of whatever has been realized. we might get too worked up in the frenzy of renewed desire—make time for quiet moments to catch your breath 🌬
at the end of the day, Luna retires to her home sign of Cancer to exhale into the salty sea air. We’ll want to take a moment to return to our shells and process what we have learned—let your feelings about the situation speak to you. Consider journaling, singing, or making music to help melt into some relaxation 🦀
In the Long Run: the fun flirty Sag lightning in the sky begins to wind down as Venus enters earthy Capricorn, followed by the Sun two weeks later. however, we won’t be totally bereft of fire—just in time for the Winter Solstice, Jupiter says goodbye to its watery home sauna of Pisces for the next 12 years, and brings forth a hot cosmic spring as it returns to Aries, the scorched battlefield of Mars 🪓

19 April 2024 - Friday Field Notes
Tumblr media
Pond scum 🐸
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spiderweb with condensation and frost on the left and Golden Currant (Ribes aureum) on the right.
The prairie is largely still sleeping. We've had very wide ranging temperatures the past few weeks, everywhere between below freezing up to the low eighties, 30-80°F. And of course, it snowed yesterday lol.
Apart from the early spring bloomers, most of the plants seem to be biding their time for more consistent temps.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left, what I think, is Douglas's Sedge (Carex douglasii) and on the right, Purple Locoweed (Oxytropis lambertii)(Or is it a milkvetch? My coworkers and I have not come to a consensus, but Seek said locoweed, so I'll go with that for now. It's pretty, whoever they are).
Tumblr media
Some of my native plant starts at my house have started germinating though! Which is exciting! I potted these back in mid-February and just left the trays outside to do their thing. A couple more weeks and, hopefully there'll be some more green.

Thanks for the moon badge, anonymous benefactor! I often forget to keep track of the moon's current phase, so this should solve that problem & lead me to more successful stargazing opportunities.

Friday, July 29, 2022
This is a good day to pay attention to (1) what happens, (2) how you feel about it, and (3) anything else that seems important. The Moon is going to quickly make all the same challenging aspects the Sun will eventually make, as it moves through Leo. Squares to Mars, Uranus, and the Nodes, and the opposition to Saturn - none of them is easy, and we have to face them anyway. You might particularly want to pay attention to those situations where you could be too arrogant, bossy, and/or cynical - where your attitude that you’re a law unto yourself, accountable to no one - could be poised and ready to bite you in the butt.
What’s happening when:
Lunar Phase: New Moon (set a new intention)
Moon/Leo
Mars/Taurus semi-sextile Chiron Rx/Aries, 3:58 am MDT
Sun/Leo sesquiquad Juno Rx/Pisces, 8:17 am MDT
Moon/Leo void of course, 10:29 pm MDT
Mercury/Leo inconjunct Juno Rx/Pisces, 3:44 am MDT (Saturday)
Looking ahead to Saturday: off task
Please note that MDT is six hours behind UT. All data from either Llewellyn’s 2022 Daily Planetary Guide, or the Cancer Sol issue of “The Mountain Astrologer.”
Valid from 06:00 UT on Friday, July 29, to 12:00 UT on Saturday, July 30.

For Friday, the 3rd
Moon trine Neptune [[Exact at 12:00 PM PST]]
The moon in Cancer trining Neptune in Pisces can bring a softness around the emotions, or cause a desire to get more in touch with them. This is a very watery aspect that makes edges blur and life seem somewhat less harsh or demanding, for a little while. Neptune can bring out isolating and escapist tendencies, and home may feel lie the most tempting place to be on Friday - especially with Cancer being the sign the moon is in. With Mercury opposing the moon in its trine with Neptune there can be hazy thoughts or forgetfulness, or just a general desire to forget about life’s mundane details. Pluto in the mix just adds a sense of wanting to escape certain facets of the external world, perhaps somewhat from a sense of being on edge or too close to intensity.
Mercury approaching sextile with Neptune [[Exact on the 6th at 10:23 AM]]
Mercury’s dry and habitual mundanity is blessed with some contact from Neptune, as it forms a sextile with it that goes exact on the 6th. Under the influence of this aspect thinking can become more creative, and our minds can be opened and expanded. Neptune is expansive in the sense that it helps us to get lost in our ethereal senses, and the great, big “maybe” that is the unseen. During this aspect we can surrender some of the more nitpicky elements of our thought processes, as Neptune can help us to embrace things the way that they are. Being in the flow mentally is a benefit that can potentially be claimed during this aspect. Communication is another major Mercury facet, and so during the Mercury/Neptune sextile we may be more open and less guarded with our speech, for a time.
Venus closer to its Mars square
Venus and Mars get closer to their inharmonious entanglement (a square), and as we get closer to it we may feel tensions arise in relationships, or simply in the way that others react to us. Venus and Mars have to do with the self (Mars) and the other (Venus). When they square there can be tension around the themes of aggression, self acceptance, the reciprocation of love and affection, relationship issues, arguments, inadequacy, and confidence. We may feel burnt out when it comes to certain relationships, especially as Venus is now in Pisces, which is the sign that has the hardest time establishing boundaries and understanding that one person’s problems do not have to be another’s. Pisces is all about blending into the whole, and as relationships always involve completely separate beings this can get tricky - especially with the square going on with Mars. During this transit we have the potential to learn how to not overreact, maintain a sense of peace in the face of agitation and to surrender and let people be themselves, no matter what.

help! i feel like im going crazy!
my brother and i were watching an anime when a temperature of 39.2°C came up. being american, we only understand Fahrenheit. so, for fun, we decided to see if we could convert it in our heads...
needless to say, we couldnt and ended up looking it up. regardless, later i kept trying to work it out on paper. i finally remembered how, but..... it keeps coming out 1 off??? where am i going wrong! help!!
Tumblr media
Hi :D ngl i'm kind of obsessed with your notes, bc you wrote the whole multiplication process down and then checked your answer. anyway let's get right to it:
in your multiplication table for 39.2 * 1.8, the first row is 39.2*0.8=31.36 (correct), and then you did 39.2*1.0=40.20. somewhere you added an additional 1 even though when you write it down like 39.2*1.0 you can see that the 40.20 can't be right.
i hope that helped!
also if you wanna know a temperature in °F but you can deal with a rough estimate, here's what i usually do:
1.8 is almost 2, or, in other words, it is 2-0.2. it's way easier to double a number in your head than do the whole "multiply by 1.8 ... argh how did that work again, i need a pencil" shtick. for the sake of simplicity, let's say you want to know what 39°C are in °F, so you could
multiply by 2: that's 78. an easy way to do this in your head is by calculating 40*2 and then subtracting 2, because 39=40-1, so 39*2 = (40-1)*2=40*2-2
keep the 78 as a preliminary result in your mind. now, shift the decimal one place to the left: 78.0 -> 7.8
subtract these: 78-7.8 = 70.2
now add the 32 and there you got your rough estimate of 39.2°C -> 102.2°F
when you shift the decimal place one to the left (or, divide by 10), you essentially calculate the result of 39*0.2. you could sum up this whole calculation as
39*1.8+32 = (40-1)*(2-0.2)+32 = 40*2-2-(40*2-2)/10 = 78-7.8 = 70.2+32=102.2

Friday Feature: Senior Living Credit/Borrowing Still, Very Soft
TGIF! This week has been very busy with lots of data and lots of economic news. We got a new report from the BLS on inflation. We got earnings reports from Home Depot, Target, and yesterday, Wal Mart indicating what we saw from the Conference Board – consumers are slowing their spending.  I called the Holiday shopping outlook “meh” in Wednesday’s post…
