Blu Christmas Holiday Movie Asplosion 2022! ⛄ Chapter 8: Remember the Night 🦌 Ending this little block, the last less well remembered classic is 1940's Remember the Night, with Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray. This one is another romantic comedy, that dips into moments of drama, and it is overall fairly enjoyable and at times quite charming film. Pushover is a 1954 American film noir crime film directed by Richard Quine starring Fred MacMurray, Phil Carey and Kim Novak (all of 20 in her first credited role). The motion picture was adapted from two novels, The Night Watch by Thomas Walsh and Rafferty by William S. Ballinger. I hadn't seen this until recently. Okay... today. It's on the YouTube. I was hoping it was something akin to Double Indemnity. Meh. Not so much. It's okay. It's definitely film noir. The entire first scene is a bank being robbed in silence which is kind of an interesting storytelling choice. MacMurray and Carey are solid hard boiled tough guys. Novak is (as advertised on the poster ) a hot blooded blonde. I don't think the dialogue and story aren't tight as Double Indemnity. But it's hard to top Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler when it comes to Noir. I have been watching a bunch of these old live action Disney movies and they are fun. This one is grandfathered into the Medfield Cinematic Universe because the 1976 sequel The Shaggy D.A. is specifically set in Medfield. Medfield Movies: The Shaggy Dog (1959) (Not actually mentioned by name) The Absent Minded Professor (1961) Son of Flubber (1963) The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969) Now You See Him, Now You Don't (1972) The Strongest Man in the World (1975) The Shaggy D.A. (1976) The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1995) Flubber (1997) This movie has 2 remakes. 1994 and 2006. I'm not sure if either of those take place in Medfield. The 3 after Son of Flubber feature Kurt Russel as Dexter Riley, Cesar Romero as A.J. Arno, and Joe Flynn as Dean Higgins. I edited the Novaro scans a bit to make them more vivid. Vacation-Staycation Eternal Blu-ray Catch-up! Gonna be doing more 2 at a time posts, as I've got like a dozen to catch up on. Starting with some Kino Lorber 4Ks. In fact, most of these coming ones are 4K. 🎞️ Chapter 15: The Apartment Chapter 16: Some Like it Hot 🎬 These two also happen to both be directed (& produced & partially written) by Billy Wilder, and star Jack Lemmon. Both are also comedies, though The Apartment has notably more drama included as well. It also has Shirley MacLaine, Fred MacMurray, and Ray Walston. Some Like it Hot on the other hand, has Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, George Raft, and Pat O'Brien. Both are acclaimed, won & were nominated for awards, and, both are pretty alright. I may not love them as much as many over the years, but they are good. Also, not terribly surprisingly for their time, both also have problematic elements, but not too severely, at least.
