"Twice-Told Tales" is a 1963 horror film based on a collection of short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Vincent Price stars in the film, playing various characters throughout the different tales. The stories in "Twice-Told Tales" are dark and macabre, exploring themes of guilt, revenge, and the supernatural. Throughout the film, there are many instances of horror and loss, including: "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment": In this tale, a group of elderly friends drink from a fountain of youth, only to discover that the rejuvenation is temporary. When they revert to their old selves, they realize that they have wasted their newfound youth on petty squabbles and regrets. “Rappaccini's Daughter": This story follows a young woman who has been raised by her father to be poisonous to the touch. When a young man falls in love with her, he discovers too late the deadly consequences of their relationship "The House of the Seven Gables": This story centers on a family cursed by a long-ago injustice. As the family members struggle to escape their fate, they face tragedy and loss The Haunted Palace": In this tale, a man returns to his ancestral home, only to discover that it is haunted by the ghost of his evil ancestor. As the ghost takes possession of the man's body, he becomes a vessel for the ancestor's malevolent spirit. Throughout "Twice-Told Tales," there are many examples of horror and loss, including death, betrayal, and supernatural forces. Vacation-Staycation Eternal Blu-ray Catch-up! Okay, I'm ending the posts with these, even if I didn't watch during my vacation time technically, they're still part of the eternal catch-up, and 30 is a neater number of chapters... [Speaking of which, for any interested, this whole thing amounted to 22 posts, 30 "chapters", and a grand total of 44-46 movies, depending how/what you count, so let's just say 45 movies.] 🎞️ Chapter 30: A Fistful of Dollars For a Few Dollars More 🎬 Finishing this whole run with these two immortal "spaghetti" western classics, that helped popularize the genre, just released on 4K. Also included a pic of the full trilogy, though the 4K of the final and best of them (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly), was already out for a while. Vacation-Staycation Eternal Blu-ray Catch-up! The next two are an odd pairing, but well, they are both kinda noir-ish (one considerably more than the other admittedly). Both still 4K, both are DolbyVision, and one of them is also DolbyAtmos. 🎞️ Chapter 17: Touch of Evil Chapter 18: The Batman 🎬 Another Kino Lorber 4K with Touch of Evil, a well made noir, directed & screenplay by and starring Orson Welles, along with Janet Leigh, Charlton Heston, and even a special appearance of Marlene Dietrich. Orson Welles plays a convincing bastard. It's some solid noir I'd never seen before (and another old film in 4K that looked pretty great overall) Also, I am very glad the reconstructed version (done using Orson Welles own notes) exists, so it can be seen properly. And of course the much more recent (and less noir, but still some), The Batman, and as it's from this year, not surprisingly it looks/sounds great. It is also quite dark (like, yes, in theme, but also just visually dark, even for a Batman movie). I had a good time with it, and didn't mind the near 3 hour length.
