Ko-fi thank-you sentences for Flamyangelwings; Kara gets to Earth on time and the Kents get a two-for-one special on free kids.
Ma and Pa store the wreckages of both of their ships in a building that Kara thinks is a barn and cover them with thick, heavy fabric. She takes the crystals out of the ships first, obviously. The ships are little more than scrap now, but they’ll need the crystals one day.
Not yet, but . . . one day.
She and Kal both wear alien clothes and eat alien food and she does her alien work, and he plays with his alien toys, and Ma and Pa . . . Ma and Pa fuss, Kara can’t help feeling.
Sometimes other aliens visit, or they go into Smoll-Veel for supplies or to eat at the restaurants or visit places Kara doesn’t always understand the purpose of. There’s a park, and a shop for textiles, and a . . . library, she thinks? Ma and Pa don’t exchange money for the things they take from it, anyway; just scan a card, and then bring them back later. Kara thinks they’re some sort of . . . paper records, from what she’s gathered–sheets upon sheets of paper, all bound together on one side. Some of them are slimmer and have pictures, and Ma and Pa like to take turns reading those to Kal. Some of them are thicker and don’t have pictures, or at least not many, and those they either read in silence or read to each other or even Kara.
She doesn’t understand them, obviously, but . . . it’s . . . nice, she thinks.
She actually thinks they might be stories, not just records. Especially the ones with pictures in them.
So it’s very nice, that Ma and Pa are sharing those with them. Very . . . very kind.
In the settlement, Ma and Pa introduce Kara and Kal by slightly different names, and everyone calls them Mar-Tha and Jona-Than, not Ma and Pa. Kara thinks maybe this planet has private names on top of their public ones, though she’s not actually certain.
They call her “Ka-Lair” and call Kal “Ka-Lum” to the other aliens, though they pronounce them a little oddly–“Claire” and “Callum”, more like. Or that’s as close as Kara can get, anyway. Sometimes they say “Ka-Lair Zo-El Kent” and “Ka-Lum El-Ot Kent”–Kara’s not sure why Kal gets the Laborer title attached to his name too, but supposes it must be because children on this planet are associated with their guardian’s guild until they’re old enough to choose their own–though again, the pronunciation is a little odd. More like . . . “Claire Zoelle Kent” and “Callum Elliot Kent”, she thinks.
Most of the other aliens in Smoll-Veel are kind, but none of them are as kind as Ma and Pa. Ma and Pa are . . . they’re so kind. Ma teaches Kara how to make her “pye”, and Pa teaches her how to play a catching game with a small white ball and a peculiar webbed glove and sometimes a stick to hit the ball with, and they both teach her how to work on their little farm and help her take care of Kal. They’ve even gotten him his own little bed, with tall fenced-in sides so he can’t roll or climb out of it, and set it up in a bedroom for him and her to stay in together, with a closet full of clothes for them both and a box of toys for Kal and a shelf of thin paper records with pretty pictures inside of them that they read to him from every night after “supper”.
She thinks Ma is female and Pa is male, now, and is mostly certain that they’re either mated or married or whatever this planet does, not related or just friends. Definitely not just coworkers, either way. They still call Kal’s toy dog “Krippo” instead of “Krypto”, but given Kara’s problems getting her own tongue around their language’s words, she’s not going to hold it against them. Kal understands what they mean when they say it, so that’s all that matters.
She feels vulnerable and uncomfortable whenever they’re off the farm, and sometimes even on it, but . . . but Ma and Pa are so kind, and it’s hard to feel uncomfortable with them.
Vulnerable, maybe, but not quite in the same way as she does out in Smoll-Veel.

Part of the reason I think including Elesa in the "goes back in time to find Ingo" club is just because Elesa is... more grounded? Like I adore the subway boss twins to death, but they're both eccentric as hell. If the people of hisui ever learn that Ingo is from the FUUUUTURE they may end up concluding that all Ingo and Emmets eccentricities are just what people in the future are like.
It'd be fun to have Elesa there to just go, "Uh, yeah, no. No they're not. These two are just a little eccentric. Good guys and even greater trainers, just a bit odd."

Lol I've seen headcanons about Ingo and Emmet developing a slight resistance to poison and paralysis over time thanks to constant exposure by pokemon.
Imagine someone asking drayden if he trained them to do that, only for drayden to go "They did what?!" this being the first he's heard of it.

Fun gen 5/gen 8 crossover idea.
In both BW/B2W2 and SwSh you have gym leaders who are also models (Elesa and nessa) who both presumably know people who specialize in some degree in double battles (Emmet and Raihan).
Imagine Elesa and nessa attending some modeling event or party and being friendly rivals in this aspect. They both appreciate each other's hard work and determination and find a sorta kinship in balancing both their careers so they get along while also competing.
Theyre both allowed to bring guests to an event and Elesa naturally brings the subway twins and nessa brings Raihan and someone else (I'd say piers but this sorta thing probably isn't his scene so it's up in the air. Leon's an option but who knows).
Anyway this is very clearly their event so the guys try not to detract from that but...
Well all I can imagine is Emmet staring across the room at Raihan shaking with so much excitement that Ingo has to keep a hand on his chair to keep it from vibrating across the floor, while on the other side Raihan is just emanating the thickest cloud of competitiveness.
The boys struggle to behave themselves all evening but in the end are rewarded for their efforts by getting to officially scrap with each other afterwards.
Just saying, it'd be awesome.

The overturning of Roe v. Wade (if it goes through) is gonna piss me off for years to come.
And not just because it overturns half a century of legal precedent seemingly for political clout, but because I know, I just KNOW, that all the states that ban abortion are going to start demanding more and more funding from the American government as a result of them being completely incapable of dealing with the fallout.
Beyond that, if they dont address the consequences of banning abortion, then their welfare rates are going to shoot up and they'll just make excuse after excuse.

NOw that they announced they're going to be remaking "A Wonderful Life" on the Switch, I betcha a ton of folks are going to be downloading gamecube emulators and playing the game just to refresh their memories of the game XD
The irony is palpatable.
No lies tho, I'm looking forward to it and really wish they had given us a release date. I remember genuinely enjoying this game on the gamecube, and hope I'll still enjoy it on the switch.

If Harry had found out Virgil was Shadow Caster, would he have stopped/beaten him, or been gleeful and made him steal /way more/ money?
If Harry had found out Virgil was Shadow Caster (assuming he did not find out because the police were involved, in which case he would likely be arrested. The current laws on file about underaged superheroes/villains would mean they would have launched an immediate child endangerment/neglect investigation... and... well..) one of them would be dead.

The one thing I can't get over in the Labelled series is that Logan thinks jam is a food. Lol. Jam isn't a food, it's a spread. It's like saying butter or olive oil is a food. You aren't supposed to eat jam on it's own, and jams are often used for coming meats as well, so if anything it should be an ingredient. Logan eats jam straight in Canon, so I get it, but I still laugh picturing Patton having to convince Logan that jam can go on cookies because "jam is supposed to be 'a breakfast food'".
I mean, I think it is by definition food. Butter would be too. In fact, by it’s strictest definition it’s anything people/animals consume for the purpose of making energy. Of course, this definition also would include some drinks which... feel wrong, but I imagine Logan would say jam is food.
But... now I’m laughing picturing Patton convincing him (as a first step toward the cookies) that actually it’s okay to put jam on bread since both are breakfast foods. Instead of... you know.

And even more thoughts on the future in “Have Brain, Will Parent” as I procrastinate on the actual chapter (and other paperwork I have due this week), I really doubt that “Robbie” would create “Hollis’ Hot Streak” like Raz did in canon—in part because he knows more about boundaries and the consequences of messing with peoples’ brains given his upbringing (*cough* Aunt Cassie’s stories about what happened with his [literal] Aunt Lucy *cough*), but also because he wouldn’t have as many issues with the interns?
For one thing, I was discussing this with Flamyangelwings on the original “Prompts from the Mind” thread and we were thinking that “Robbie” probably wouldn’t even be an intern in the first place—either he tested out with Lili, or he just plain wasn’t interested in it/Helmut didn’t give parental permission. So while I could see him hanging out with them as yet another attempt to socialize him since the whole summer camp thing didn’t work out and the Aquato family needs time to pack and actually travel over for the ensuing custody battle/bonding with their long lost child, the relationship would be different.
They would probably be kinder from the get-go—some of them having likely seen or heard of him from all the forest cryptid stories/him living in the Motherlobe before being shipped off to camp, as well Hollis maybe making it an official assignment for them to help with his reintegration into society, but I’m not so sure he would really care about their opinions in the same way he did in the game? Not to mention the fact that the Casino mission might not even happen unless he decides to mess around in the mail room and uncovers “Nick’s” body.
The only way I can maybe see something similar happening is if that lady who was trying to pick up the mail room slack before Raz came in was the one to uncover that package to “Truman,” and they found the casino keys that way. Meanwhile one of the interns decided to show “Robbie” the Mental Connection technique after class hoping to impress him, since apparently it is considered “advanced,” but the explanation they gave was similar to Norma’s and he still ended up doing it in a way more akin to his circus/running around in the woods instincts. He would stop there, quickly reversing any singular connection that attempt made, and then bow out or ask for a better explanation of what he was actually supposed to do (but still probably find his way superior, even if he never actually utilized the technique), and it would be one of the other kids who gets the idea to try and use his method to change Hollis’ mind (with absolutely no input from “Robbie,” who could have told them what a horrible idea that was).
Hollis would then go find him and drag him along on the mission since she thinks his presence might be “helpful” for some reason (really, it’s that one of her worries that gets dragged into the giant net that created the whole gambling addiction mess involves him, his welfare, his socialization, and possible PR backlash if people find out he was living in their woods for so long without the psychonauts knowing about it or doing anything to help him, so she now has a mental connection between him and “risks” and “rewards” and “casinos” somewhere. She isn’t entirely sure how he fits in, but she is sure he does somehow, so he gets dragged along, too).
Either that, or he would accidentally get dragged along because he followed one of his squirrel friends into the jet and was playing around in it/was retrieving something of his that he forgot in there after the Rhombus of Ruin thing and no one bothered to check that the jet was empty before taking off, so he kind of just got dragged along.
He might still get a little lecture/warning afterwards about how it is a bad idea to enter minds uninvited, and how just because it worked and was helpful this time doesn’t mean it should be something he does often/without permission, but it would definitely be in a gentler and non-blame assigning way because, as stated, this time the entire mess would not have been his fault. In addition to the fact that he sort of kind of got dragged along unwillingly, whether by her directly or because they didn’t realize he was in the jet before takeoff (and if it is the latter case, he will probably get an additional lecture about informing adults of where he is going/what he is going to do before just deciding to take off on his own, and this one will be way more exasperated than the first one because it will be the hundredth time he’s heard it—living in the woods like he did and with so much freedom for so long means that this particular lesson is having a much harder time sinking in. Not helped by the fact that the Whispering Rock fiasco undid all the progress they’d made in the months beforehand since there weren’t actually any adults around he could talk to [Ford doesn’t count, assuming he even ended up talking to him at any point beyond bothering him in the camp store] and he did have to run around and save everyone on his own/with minimal help from his estranged siblings).
Also, the real culprit may or may not actually come forward to accept their guilt. (I’d put high odds on it being either Gisu or Morris’s fault, though.)
