Tired of the Insanity? Come Ignore the Constant Mental Beat-down for at least a week!
The video below is what you will see and hear at Northwind Lodge. No “elephant in the room”, no constant weirdness, no reminders of what’s actually out there in the rest of today’s world. Up here, we actually get to ignore “that”. We go outside. Instead of sirens, you’ll hear Jasper Creek in the background. Instead of loud music, the birds are cheeping on their nests. The sun rises and sets on…

is softly trying to wake up your sleepy partner a trope ? idk. anyway “ice, baby, it’s time to wake up.”
“Ice, baby,” Maverick whispers, lightly pushing at his shoulder “it’s time to wake up,”
Several truths reveal themselves to Ice the moment he returns to consciousness:
It is swelteringly hot
The base of his spine hurts like a bitch
He is naked
And, most troubling, he is quite sticky
None of these revelations are particularly encouraging, but his aching back quickly takes priority as Ice comes to and gets his bearings. He stretches his arms, grossly caked in dried over sweat, over his head and then yelps once his index finger collides with the metal coils of the bed frame. He frowns, bringing the wounded digit to his lips.
Maverick is sitting on the edge of the bed - dressed, showered, and shaven with an irritatingly dopey smile. He’s wearing jeans and his leather jacket, which doesn’t make much sense given how fucking hot it is in here.
Ice squints at him accusingly.
“What-” Ice starts, then swallows. His throat is bone-dry, his tongue not much farther off as he sucks on his still throbbing finger. “What time- wait, where are we?”
The curtains of the room are drawn shut tight enough that just the slightest ray of sunlight is able to creep in. There’s no air conditioning, and the bedframe squeaks loudly with even the slightest of movement so Ice figures that wherever they are, it’s old as hell.
“It’s almost three,” Mav tells him. He gestures for Ice to sit up and passes over a glass to Ice’s free hand. Ice frowns as the motion pulls unpleasantly at his back and then promptly gulps down the entire thing. Ice rolls his shoulders and pops his neck. God, he is fucking sore.
“Come on sweetheart,” Mav prompts, “wheels up. Slider’s starting to lose it out there,”
Mav stands and walks over to open the curtain, flooding the room with light. Ice flinches at the brightness, peeling back the thin cover sheet and swinging his legs over so that his feet land on the fuzzy teal carpet. The sheet - adorned with pastel pink flowers and butterflies - sticks to Ice’s leg as he moves. He grimaces as the puzzle pieces begin to fall in place.
“Am I in heat?” He asks, trying not to be overly put out by Maverick’s smug look.
“Nope,” Mav pops the 'p', from where he stands, arms crossed, by the window. “Well, you were. Not anymore though, I saw to that, thank you very much. It came on fast enough that we had to get real creative,"
Ice blinks, his stomach drops. "...Creative?"
"We’re in Nana’s room,”
Oh Christ.
It had been Ice’s idea in the first place to get the band back together so to speak. It had been a few years and between deployments, reassignments, and Hollywood going local, everyone was clamoring for a vacation.
Maverick famously hates anything to do with camping so they compromised, landing on what Slider has taken to calling Boyscouts Lite. Ice found an RV rental and enough tents to reasonably shelter a handful of pilots, three women, an eight year old, and twin baby girls.
A tall order to fill, no doubt, but thankfully Slider's Nana conveniently owns a vast plot of land up in NorCal with river access, enough trees to give Hollywood the creeps and, most importantly, radio signal. Maverick refused to go unless he could be guaranteed his daily dose of Springsteen. Nana was more than happy to act as their crew's headquarters, positively delighted to meet all of Ronald’s little friends.
Ice’s last lucid memory was breaking up an argument between Carol and Wolf. They had been organizing the fishing equipment when suddenly Wolf shrieked a sharp, piercing wail that startled several birds into flight. His finger had been pricked - barely, Carol protested. Accusations began flying and Maverick, naturally, was no help.
Within moments of parking the RV, Mav elected himself as the resident river thermometer, stripping to board shorts, making a real show of it once the chorus of whistles and cheers started up. He plopped himself down - a can of beer in either hand - onto one of Bradley’s tubes (the one with the flamingos, specifically) and cast off into the river. Supervising, he had smirked from his tube, bopping along without a care in the world. Ice supposed he should be grateful that his alpha wasn’t one of those excruciating knotheads that insisted on micromanaging everything, but mostly Ice was just annoyed that he was left alone to wrangle with the tents.
Ice vaguely remembers pushing himself between Carol and Wolf - the distinctly unpleasant scent of agitated betas making his lip curl. He had shoved Wolf back hard and then after that Ice’s memory goes mostly blurry.
Heat tends to do that to a guy.
“Come on,” Maverick startles him back into the present, reaching a hand out to pull Ice to his feet. Ice brings his arms up and around Maverick’s neck, breathing in the reassuring scent of content alpha - his alpha.
“Hi,” Ice smiles into Mav’s neck, swaying forward to let the alpha bear most of his weight. Mav makes a pleased sound and wraps his arms around Ice’s hips, digging his thumbs in to massage at the sore tissue.
The sound Ice lets out in relief is rather unbecoming of a naval officer with his record, but Ice is too blissed out to find it in himself to be embarrassed. Plus, they're alone and it's not ike Maverick is a stranger to the various groans, moans, and whines Ice comes up with. No, Maverick loves when Ice gets vocal, makes it his most sacred duty to get Ice to make as many sounds as possible in bed.
It's a shame he doesn't remember much of the previous night, Ice thinks. If the ache in his back is anything to go by, it must have been a good one.
Ice lifts up his right leg to rest atop Maverick’s hip and swoons as Mav, ever eager to follow Ice’s lead, uses his grip to pull up Ice into his arms. It’s a little ridiculous, what with Ice’s clear size advantage and all. But Maverick is strong, and takes Ice’s weight like it’s nothing. He shuffles his hold so that Ice can squeeze his thighs around Mav’s waist, effectively clinging like a starfish across Maverick’s front.
“Hi,” Mav smiles back once they’re both situated. “Let’s get you cleaned up, yeah?”
Ice drops his head to rest snuggly on Mav’s shoulder, and nods. He lets his eyes close as Maverick begins to walk towards what Ice prays to be some form of indoor plumbing.

Quinn Shirt (Plaids)
BGC
Found in Button Ups
Tagged for masc frames, Everyday, Formal, Party, Hot Weather, and Cold Weather
In thirty-nine plaid patterns from my Customizable Plaids Patterns Resource
No fashion rarity tags.
This is a standalone recolor of my Quinn Shirt. You do not require the original for this one to show up in your game.
Download Link below the cut!
I was asked by @lenobelotti for a plaid version of my Quinn shirt, and while I'm trying not to take too many requests because I don't want to feel overwhelmed, plaid is my weak spot.
I already wanted to make a plaid pattern resource, so it wasn't too hard to decide on using the Quinn shirt for testing, and eventually as its own plaid-patterned-piece-of-cc.
So, even if the temperatures are breaking 100F where I am, my Sims can all look like adorable lumberjacks on their camping trip to Granite Falls. My headcanon for the boys ran away with me while taking screenshots, so here's my plaid-soup-brain-dump (from left to right):
Kaveh: Insists the group listens to Fleet Foxes and Alela Diane the whole way there, mistakenly believes they are staying in a Simstagram-worthy cabin rental, not prepared for the bugs (don't worry he still has fun and takes photos with everyone on his vintage camera)
Ace: Actually knows what he's doing on a camping trip; in charge of building the fire and putting up the tent. Really looks forward to singing campfire songs and roasting marshmallows with the group
Darren: Excited to try fishing and herbalism for the first time, reads the wilderness guide on the car ride (and tries to share the interesting factoids with the group), brought the first-aid kit and bug spray
Grant: Owns the beat-up van they drove in, will play guitar at Ace's request, mostly likes to participate with the others and their hobbies and writes/sketches about it later in his journal

This is a part 2. It was going to be longer but I'm working too much lately..
Part 1 here
Must read part one.
"[Are you sure you it's okay for all of us to be here?]"Namjoon asks, feeling guilty that him and his brothers took over their campsite.
"[Oh, it's no problem. It certainly made things more interesting. Since our friends bailed on coming with us it was getting boring. You also brought dinner for us to share. I think its an even trade. We caught zilch.]" Darryl smiles warmly, grilling the fish the members brought.
Jin walks back towards Namjoon, hanging up the phone with a grim expression. Him and Taehyung went for a walk to get Yoongi's discarded clothing, hoping to get a better phone signal with higher ground.
"You couldn't get a signal?" Namjoon guesses by his expression.
"Worse, staff won't be able to get to us until tomorrow.." Jin says, clenching his jaw.
"What? Why? Is everything okay?" Namjoon asks with a worried expression. "Was there an accident."
"No, no. The rental car broke down on their way to their hotel. They can't get a replacement until tomorrow.." Taehyung replies, rubbing Jin's shoulders. "It's okay. we can take care of Hobi-hyung until then." He tried to stay positive, but his smile didn't meet his eyes and hardly lasted more than a moment.
"[What's wrong kid?]" Derek asks Namjoon to translate when he feels the tension in the air. "[I don't speak Korean but I can tell it ain't good news.]"
"[We can't get our friend to the hospital until tomorrow. Our ride broke down..]" Namjoon was tempted to ask him for more help when he heard Hoeseok coughing, but he couldn't get himself to do it. Not when he already did so much for them already.
"[I'm sure he'll be fine. You can use some whiskey to help numb your buddy Yoongi and some cough medicine for J-hope.]" Derek says with an optimistic grin. "[You want some? Brought some just case. Darryl ends up with the sniffles every time it rains. Sensitive little f*cker.]" He says fondly, laughing when Derek throws a stick at him. "[What? You are!]"
"[That would be great. Thank you.]" Namjoon bows, weakly smiling when Derek bows back, watching him go in the tent to dig through his bag.
"[You okay?]" Derek asks when he hears Hoseok coughing into his fist. "[Hang tight I'll give you something for that nasty cough.]"
Hoseok nods, even though he couldn't understand half of what he was saying. Despite taking private English lessons, he couldn't remember. His mind was fuzzy with fever, cuddling closer to Yoongi as another chill ran down his spine.
"You aren't okay. You're burning hot.." Jimin frowns, touching the back of his hand to his forehead. "This isn't good. He's getting worse already.."
"It's okay Minnie.. i..I just need to..to rest.." Hoseok coughs, cursing under his breath when his chest tightens a wheezing sound coming when he tries to take a deep breath.
"Don't lie to me.. you aren't okay." Jimin tries to scold him, but his voice is soft and slightly trembles. His stomach churned with worry for the usual cheerful rapper, rubbing his back as a feeble attempt to help.
Hoseok grabbed Yoongi's hand, squeezing it while he swayed, dizziness engulfing him, making him shiver with a cold sweat, leaning his head against the older’s shoulder. Even with laying as still as a stone, he still felt like he was moving.
"Hoseok-ah.." Yoongi whispered his name, trying to attempt to comfort him, but his voice caught in his throat, no other words coming. His throat was too tight, having to look up and blink rapidly to stop the tears that pricked at the corners of his eyes.
This is my fault.. I should've told him to go to camp when I realized how quiet he was being when we were fishing that something was wrong.. or talked him into staying in the camp all together..
Yoongi's felt his stomach knotting with guilt, feeling like he would be sick. "I'm sorry.." He breathed the words, leaning his head on Hoseoks, burying his face in his hair as two tears slipped, not wanting Jimin to see them.
Even without seeing Yoongi's face, Jimin could hear the soft sobs that the deagu rapper tried to conceal, his breath coming out as shaky gasps his shoulders trembling. "Hyung its okay..it's not your fault. You did all you could.."
"It's mine.. I should've..stayed in camp..but I was scared to stay alone.." Hoeseok whispers hoarsely between coughs, gasping for air when it finally dies down.
Yoongi nods, but he doesn't believe him, forcing himself to take a deep breath to try to slow his ragged breathing.
"[Found it!]" Derek says with a triumphant smile, it instantly dropping when he looks at his guests, becoming aware of the tension in the air. "[Woah kid, are you okay? Are you in pain?]"
"[I'm just a little bit..I'm okay.]" Yoongi lies, rubbing his face against Hoeseok's hair to try to dry his eyes to look up at Derek, giving him a sad smile. "[I'm just..ah..]" He struggled to think of the English words to describe his emotions, but his mind was still foggy with fatigue. "[Just tired and worry..]"
"[I get that. I'd be f*cken worried, too. Here. I found that cough syrup. It should knock him right out.]" Derek gives the bottle of bright red liquid to Jimin.
"[Thank you..]" Jimin bows his head, opening the bottle and pouring it into the small cup.
"[No prob. I'm gonna go check on dinner.]" Derek quickly dismisses himself from the tent.
"Hyung do you think you can sit up for me?" Jimin asks with a gentle tone, caressing the back of Hoseok's neck.. "Just for a few seconds.. then you can lay back down.."
Hoseok slowly picks up his head, keeping his eyes closed, frightened that if he opened them, the room would start spinning again. Yoongi keeps his hand firmly on his brother, having the same fear that he'd fall to the side.
Jimin slowly puts the small cup to Hoseok's slightly parted lips, just in case the cough returns, feeling a sliver of relief when the rapper manages to take it, quickly giving him some water. "Good, good.." he murmurs with a soft sigh.
"How is he?" Jungkook pokes his head in the tent. "Ah, you're up.. how are you?"
"I'm hanging in there.." Hoseok stifles a cough, trying to give a reassuring smile for the mankae. "Darryl-ssi got me some medicine.."
Jungkook bites his lip, not wanting to say he was just outside talking to Darryl and that it was Derek who was with them earlier. Hoseok was great with names, able to remember staff from several years ago. "That's good, I was worried we wouldn't have a way to get it.."
"I'm tired Hyung.." Hoseok looks at Yoongi with exhaustion written on his face. "We should go to our.." Coughs cut him off, burying his face in his arm.
"I don't think you should be walking. You're really sick Hoba.." Yoongi says softly, tensing up. He had no idea how long they'd be welcomed in the brother's camp and there was no way he would let Hoeseok walk.
"What's wrong?" J-hope asks softly, looking up at Yoongi.
"Don't worry about me,I'm just thinking. Get some rest, baby. Hyung will figure it out." Yoongi moves him and J-hope into a laying position, letting the younger rapper lay on his chest.
J-hope almost instantly falls asleep, his head growing heavier on Yoongi's chest. Yoongi felt feverish himself from the heat radiating off his younger brother.
"Jiminie, ask Namjoonie to speak to the Derek-sii and Daryll-sii about the situation." Yoongi says in a soft whisper.
Jimin nods, rising to his feet. "Rest well hyung." He whispers, gently stroking the back of Hoseok's neck before leaving the tent to where the others were.
"[Oh hey, dinners almost done. You hungry?]" Derek greets him motioning to the pile of fried fish. "[I don't have many plates so you'll have to take turns eating.]"
"[Thank you.]" Jimin bows, only understanding half of what he said. He was hungry all morning, but now the thought of eating wasn't appealing anymore. Stress knotted his stomach, the smell of food making him nauseous.
"[No problem. It was your catch anyway. We just seasoned it.]" Daryll smiles. "[Smells good too.]"
Jimin nods, taking a seat between Jin and Namjoon. "Yoongi-hyung wants to know how long we'll be allowed to stay at their camp before we have to return to our own."
"Ah, Seokjin-hyung had the same thought, so I already asked.. we have until we finish dinner. They offered to help carry him back to our campsite, but I turned down their offer." Namjoon answers.
"But it's windy out now. What if the cold makes him worse?" Jimin asks, taking a breath to try to keep himself calm.
"What if we ask them to switch camps for the night? Our tent is good.." Taehyung frowns, trying to think of the English words. "[Ah, Derek-sii..please.. could ..camp ..different?]"
"[What? Different camp?]" Derek looks at him with confusion, looking at Namjoon. "[I don't know what your buddys asking.]"
"[Sorry.. he was trying to ask if you'd be willing to switch camps with us. We have a large tent set up on the other side of the lake. He's worried about moving our brother that far.]" Namjoon explains the situation.
"[I'd love to help you out, kid, but our heater can't heat up a big tent like that, and my brother, he can't stand the cold. I'm not making my brother uncomfortable for some stranger I just met.]" Derek answered honestly.
"[I understand. You've done so much already, thank you.]" Namjoon bows. "[I'm sorry.]"
"[Nah kid, don't be sorry. You're looking out for your family. I'm looking out for mine. We'll get your friend to the camp. We'll wrap him up good in blankets, and I'll let you have the medicine.]"
"[That would be great, thank you.]" Namjoon tried to smile despite being disappointed that they had to move Hobi, his lips just barely curling up for a split second.
"We can't stay." Jin says it as a fact.
"Sounds like it.."Taehyung says with a sullen pout.
Namjoon nods slightly to confirm. "Let's at least try to eat, and we'll figure this out.."
"Yoongi, you have to eat.." Jin says softly, pushing the plate towards him. "You haven't eaten since we left Korea.."
Yoongi picks up a piece of fish the the fork, forcing himself to chew and swallow it down. The oily film that coated his tongue didn't help his lack of appetite.
"[Do you not like it?]" Derek asks watching Yoongi's reaction. "[Should I have used soy sauce?]"
"[Ah.. not.. hungry.. not feeling good..]" Yoongi explains, ignoring his comment. If it wasn't for Hoseok telling him to go eat, he would've stayed lying next to him. He could hear Hoseok coughing from the tent, making him try to eat faster to appease his worried hyung.
"[Take some medicine and rest when you get to your camp bud. You don't gotta eat it if you ain't hungry.]" Daryll says with a sympathic smile.
Taehyung quickly finished his portion of food. "I'll sit with Hobi-hyung. [Ah, thank you for food.]" He bows when he gets up, scurrying off to the tent. "Are you awake Hobi-hyungie?" He whispers.
Hoseok twitched at the sound of Taehyung’s voice, but his eyes remained closed, his body not awake enough to reply to him.
Taehyung takes a seat next to him, gently rubbing the back of Hoseok's neck. "The medicine didn't help with the fever.."He murmurs to himself, feeling the sweat pooling at the base of Hobi's neck. "I really don't want us to have to move you.."
"I'll..I'll be okay.." Hoseok's voice comes out as a weak, hoarse whisper, pausing to suppress a cough. "Don't worry.. I'm feeling a little better.."
"I'll make you some ramyeon for me and you to share when we get back to our camp. The broth should help soothe your throat and maybe you could get a little bit in your stomach.." Taehyung didn't get his hopes up, seeing Hoseok's face twist at even the mention of food.
"I'll see..how i feel.. then.." Hoseok says with a wheezing cough. He had absolutely no appetite, and the idea of eating made his stomach queasy.
"It's okay if you can't, Hyung. I don't want you getting sick." Taehyung says soothingly, gently scratching Hoseok's back. "You just rest okay?"
Yoongi entered the tent with the others following behind him. "Ah Hoba you're up."
"Are you feeling any better?" Namjoon asks, dropping to Hoseok's side.
"A little but 'm still freezing and..it hur..ts to bre..athe.." Hoseok answers honestly, coughing between words.
"I'm sorry Hoba.. I wish there was more I could do to help.." Namjoon says softly, feeling useless. He was tempted to go against Hoseok's request to wait to take an ambulance to the hospital. The idea of being surrounded by people who he could hardly understand made him feel anxious, and he didn't want to make him feel any more stressed.
"It's not your fault..you're doing all you can. I'm doing better.." Hoeseok tries right comfort him, but the crack in his voice from holding back a cough doesn't convince him.
"We should move to our camp before the sun starts setting, it'll only get colder.." Yoongi urges gently. "I'll carry him first.."
"No, you won't. You can hardly move your shoulder hyung. You aren't carrying him at all." Namjoon says bluntly.
"It's feeling better now.. As long as I support most of his weight on-"
"Yoongi. Namjoon said no, and so do I. I know you feel like it's your fault and want to take responsibility, but it was an accident. It could've happened to any of us." Jin uses his stern serious tone, taking advantage of being the oldest to get his way. "The five of us will handle Hoba, you can carry our things. That's it."
"Yes, Hyung.." Yoongi leaves the tent, gathering up their belongings from outside, taking a deep breath to try to calm his nerves.
Namjoon picks up Hoseok bridal style blanket and all, slowly rising to his feet. "I'll carry him first."
"Alright. I'll take over when you get tired. Don't push yourself." Jin warns tucking the blanket tightly around Hoseok's body, pushing the ends in-between his side and Namjoon's abdomen. "That should keep the wind out."
"Hyungie can wear my beanie too.." Jungkook takes off his hat, putting it on Hoseok, pulling it as far down as possible to cover his ears.
Namjoon tenses when Hoseok starts coughing again, Jungkook putting his hands on Namjoon’s shoulders to keep him steady.
Hoseok wraps his arms around Namjoon, burying his face in his chest as he tried to stop coughing, feeling dizzy as whole body rattles from his coughs.
Namjoon holds him tighter, his heart thumping wildly in his chest, watching his friend suffering. "We need to get moving..it's okay, I got him.." he moves out of the tent.
"[I'll walk with you so i can take the blanket back to our camp.]" Daryll grabs a flashlight to accompany them, but Yoongi waves him off.
"[I'll walk it back.]" Yoongi says simply.
"[Alright. You boys be careful. I hope Hobi feels better soon]" Derek says sincerely.

Chapter 6: Wind
First || << Previous || Next >>
A day late but it's here!
This is a silly chapter, a tiny break from having angst in the first section :) I really like it. It inverts the formula of the previous chapters but I think it turned out okay.
A bit of a behind the scene update: I... might have scrapped 5k words of the 9th chapter because I didn't like how it was turning out. I've planned out and locked a new outline for it, but yeah I am really slow to write something new (that's the reason I've prewritten this fic before posting it excluding that last chapter, because 9 weeks is plenty of time, right?) and I hope I will be able to finish it on time, but... yeah :/
Anyway, Wind chapter is here! Enjoy :D
Barely a day has passed and Legend was already fed up. Worst part? He only had himself to blame.
He was justified as far as he was concerned. Not only was Ravio clearly going through his stuff and renting his adventure gear - again - they also only had a half an hour or so to spare to make a detour to his house and allow Legend to swap his gear and for all of them to restock potions and arrows at Ravio’s shop. They were in the middle of pursuit of a group of monsters. Who knew, what would the horde do if they let them get too far ahead or if the chain would be able to go back to his house once they finish the job.
The standard argument he had with Ravio almost every time he returned home after the merchant decided to move in, about whether the rental of his old gear was a good idea or not took him… more than they realised.
So he kind of… shoved everything in sight into his bags and stormed off.
Well, not everything everything. He had a very good and clear reason to pack every single item he did and to leave those he didn’t behind.
If he could just remember what those reasons were now, that would be great.
If he could just remember what those reasons were now, that would be great.
So here he was. In another Hyrule, a day later, in the middle of the clearing where they made a camp to rest in for a day or two after the hard battle, trying to sort through the haphazardly grabbed items and somehow make his bag manageable again. He swore to every deity he knew the name of, if he would reach for one thing only to take out something completely different that was in its spot one more time- he was going to lose it.
“Need a hand with that, vet?” Four asked, keeping his distance outside of the circle of chaos around the other hero, doing impressively well to hide his amusement at the situation.
Four, among the others, tried to appeal to his reason when he was stuffing six-adventures-worth of items into his pouches. Only the fear of possible retaliation from the man with an entire arsenal in his back pocket stopped the ‘I told you so’s from spilling out.
“Do not touch my stuff,” he growled in response, putting all his seeds with the slingshot and the seed shooter - I never use scent seeds. Why do I still keep them with the rest? - and fishing out yet another shovel from the pile on the left, from between the different rods and canes. He knew he wanted to bring a backup to avoid the awkward situation from a week ago, when they were lacking in the equipment department but by Din this was an overkill.
Maybe they had a point. Maybe talking with Ravio distracted him too much after all…
“Why do you even have this many shovels? And why did you brin-? The question died on smithy’s lips at the murderous gaze Legend sent his way. “I’ll umm… I’ll be over there if you change your mind.”
With that, Four retreated to Sky and Hyrule on the other side of the camp, the three of them watching the whole ordeal from a safe distance. It didn’t mean he was left alone. Oh no. Far from that.

Outside Magazine, November 2016 | Travis fimmel, Vikings actors, Happy play

Travis Fimmel’s Minimalist Broasis
Vikings star Travis Fimmel has exactly three possessions: his trailer, his pickup truck, and his horse
I’d been told to meet the Australian actor Travis Fimmel, best known for his role as Norse warrior Ragnar Lothbrok in the History channel’s Vikings series, at his ranch outside Los Angeles. Given the popularity of the show—four seasons, an Amazon Prime release, and season five in the works—I had assumed that Fimmel’s pad would be some secluded midcentury hideout with a well-stocked kitchen and a gym worthy of a broadsword slinger who’d also recently anchored a Warcraft film adaptation that made nearly half a billion dollars worldwide
But the address led to a dusty outdoor riding arena just off the highway, where Fimmel, barefoot in a pair of camo cargo shorts and a surf tee, greeted me from the back of his 15-year-old chestnut quarter horse, Wanker.
“I’m just getting him warmed up so he doesn’t buck you off,” says Fimmel, who is 37 and was raised on a dairy farm in Echuca, Australia. He grew up working in his family’s cherry orchards, camping and fishing with his two older brothers, and surfing behind dirt bikes in irrigation canals. He came to L.A. when he was 21, after being scouted by a modeling agency and dropping out of architecture school. Almost immediately, he was stopping traffic on billboards modeling Calvin Klein underwear
"Among a generation who’ve shunned material possessions, Fimmel has achieved an advanced state of stoic minimalism."
Still mounted, Fimmel led me in my rental car up to his broasis, which, it quickly became clear, was actually a dilapidated 18-foot beige and white Nomad travel trailer parked permanently in the shade of a pepper tree between a water tank and the tack shed.
“Got it real cheap, over in Phelan,” says Fimmel. “Towing it back, the side panels were flapping, and the back door fell off.” The ranch belongs to longtime stunt coordinator Walter Scott. Fimmel showed up in 2010 looking for riding lessons ahead of a big-screen remake of the 1960s TV show Big Valley. Most of the work around his family’s farm was performed on ATVs, so he was a novice horseman.
“Just ask me about when I first met him,” says Scott. “He says he knew about horses—everything he learned right here, on that horse. Roping and everything. Him and another guy came. He never left.”
The film went down in flames after the director was convicted of committing tax-credit fraud on a previous project, but Fimmel stuck around the stable and now squats there when he’s not traveling. “Out here it’s just good people. No industry,” Fimmel explains. “Just the stunt boys.”
Among a generation who’ve shunned material possessions as barriers to life experience, Fimmel has achieved an advanced state of stoic minimalism. According to him, his only worldly possessions are Wanker, the Craigslist trailer (which now has air-conditioning), and a red 1982 GMC stepside pickup with a ’73 bed (which does not). Before the trailer, he lived in an old Ford Econoline with a pop-up bed.
“It got taken off me,” he says. “It wasn’t road worthy.” Unlike the cool kids who gussy up Sprinter vans and Westfalias, Fimmel only recently upgraded from a flip phone to an iPhone 4, does no social media, and rarely checks his e-mail. “I’m always getting texts asking why I’m not responding on Instagram or Facebook, and I’m like, ‘It’s not me. You’re writing to some stranger.’ ”
Fimmel helped me into the saddle, and we headed out for a hack on a trail behind the property, him riding Scott’s horse Josey. It was hot, and Wanker wanted to stop in the shade. Fimmel’s ultimate goal is to save as much money as he can and end up back in Australia on a nice spread—“with three or four wives,” he jokes, though at the moment he says of the opposite sex, “They all hate me, although it’s not for lack of trying. When you do a lot of traveling, it’s hard.”
He eats what he wants, works out only when he’s forced to, and does his drinking at the local VFW hall. But for a guy who regrets his modeling days and says he wasn’t looking to get into acting—“Still not looking to, mate”—he’s stripped away everything else. If he could, he’d spend three months studying for each of his parts. “You get sucked into it, trying to be good at it,” he says. “I wish you could make money and people never saw what you did. Then you could relax and not care about how bad you are.”
It’s the proper amount of self-hatred for an action hero who’s actually good at his craft—more Viggo Mortensen than Chris Hemsworth. He starts shooting a blockbuster bank-heist film, Finding Steve McQueen, in September, starring alongside Kate Bosworth and Forest Whitaker.
Fimmel is extraordinarily soft-spoken—introverted, even—for a guy at risk of being typecast as a barbarian. At an interview with three of his Vikings castmates at Comic-Con in July, Fimmel managed to get through the entire Q&A saying exactly zero words. But he’s only now being tested in parts with more range, like his supporting role as a bearded-hipster pickle entrepreneur in the 2016 romantic comedy Maggie’s Plan and a loving, alcoholic father in an adaptation of the horse-racing novel Lean on Pete that was shot in Oregon and wrapped this summer. On that project, he ducked out for a few days to reel in his first steelhead with a friend at the mouth of the Chehalis River.
It was nearly 100 degrees on the trail. The Blue Cut Fire had just broken out in San Bernardino, and disaster-relief crews were a constant presence on the highway. Each of the past three summers, Fimmel has escaped this kind of heat, shooting Vikings in the cold mists of Ireland. The Ragnar role even landed him an endorsement deal as the face of high-end down-jacket company Canada Goose, which photographed him earlier this year among the icebergs of Newfoundland.
Here, though, it was just really hot. We put the horses up, Fimmel hosed Wanker down, and we went for a Bud Light at the VFW. If any of the vets and bikers recognized him, they didn’t show it. This time next year, it may not be so easy.

Apollo's and Naya's Vacation
April 24th to April 27th ~ Granite Falls
Apollo and Naya Grant meet in Granite Falls late in the evening of April 24th. Apollo had driven straight from his sister’s house in Henford-on- Bagley in a rental car. Naya had flown from Sulani. While Apollo waited, he made sure their cabin was ready for them and they have the supplies they need.
Tumblr media
After a good night of sleep, they spent the morning fishing.
“I’m not catching anything.” Apollo sulked.
“Maybe if you stop talking for a bit, the fish will come?” Naya suggests. She loves her husband but fishing requires you to be quiet most of the time and sometimes…sometimes she gets tired of hearing about his work. Science is not her thing. Though she guesses Apollo doesn’t enjoy hearing about fashion either.
After Naya catches two fish – releasing them since they are on the small side – and Apollo catches a boot, they set up a camp fire.
Tumblr media
They dine on hot dogs and smores, simply chatting with each other and enjoying each other’s company.
Tumblr media
“Is that a bear behind us?” Apollo questions, mid throw in a game of horseshoes.
“It’s just Granite Falls’ mascot, Claire the Bear.” Naya replies, eyeing the creature wondering down to the fishing spot.
Tumblr media
“Just as long as Claire doesn’t try to eye my hot wife. We might come to blows.” Apollo says with a smile before staring at Naya’s bum.
Naya giggles much like she did back in high school for a moment. Back when she and Apollo first fell for each other. “Quit trying to distract me, Apollo.”
“Just being truthful.” Apollo states.
The couple does their best to relax and check out the local attractions. While the local mosquitoes are attracted to them. They miss their son but get daily updates on him from Vera. He’s doing well and this time is giving Vera and Caleb some much needed practice before their own child comes into the world.
Tumblr media
Naturally the couple make time for the most important of things.
