i was talking about this on discord earlier but why have we as autistics abandoned the term special interest...it feels like everyone just uses hyperfixation now which is also a good word but i always saw the two as having different meanings. a hyperfixation is something you get intensely focused on for like a couple of weeks or months before the interest either fades or just becomes less intense. a special interest is something that like...pays rent in your brain. even if you aren't thinking about it at the time it's a part of your identity. it's something you love learning about or know everything about or just are overjoyed by. obviously people aren't always going to experience their special interests the same but i stand by the idea that they are different from hyperfixations. they're two unique kinds of consuming things. justice for special interests

okay but imagine going to watch fireworks with Mase 🥺 all bundled up in your coats and maybe his family are with you and he’s got summer up on his shoulders so she has a better view but he makes sure he’s still got one arm wrapped around you, keeping you close to him because he knows you’re probably still cold.
