#feel free to come off anon
Text
Hello, lovely people who are sending me these very cool and thought out questions and writing prompts, if you have an account, please feel free to come off anon so I can better track who's asking what.
Anon who just said yes please - are you the one who asked about lyrical love themes previously? In which case I will get to that but it may take a little longer, I want to do some research
Anon who sent a question about celebrity culture - This is an excellent question and was something I've been thinking about recently following Hank Green's video! Will hopefully get to that today.
Anon who asked for a You're Losing Me analysis - I actually have one half written sitting in my drafts, would anyone else be interested in reading this to motivate me to finish it? ;)
And lastly, to the lovely anon who sent me the ask about the Begin Again mv, I've answered that one already, but thank you for pointing it out, that's really cute and I love it when people share these nuggets they've found!

im literally falling in love w swimming as well!! can’t believe i stopped going for so many years!
That's awesome anon I hope you stick with it and never have to stop again <33
I had to stop bec of the pandemic and then after moving to NL for my Master's I didn't have time (and too much financial anxiety) for my first year :((
But I like swimming here more even though the pool is only 25m and indoors (for good reason, else I'd have to stop in the winter). There's lots of faster ppl who give me all sorts of advice. And now that's inspired me to also look up technique videos and Olympics videos online. I'm still at 35s for 50m freestyle but I'm getting faster!

So, I'm writing an essay on the whole STATE of misogyny in WC for one of my university classes, and I was wondering if I could ask you a couple of things! No pressure of course, please feel free to say no!
A) Could I reference your good takes with appropriate harvard referencing and links back to your blog?
B) Are there any specific moments from the books that you think should be covered the most?
C) The end result will be a visual essay, so it's like those fun infographics people on Tumblr make on like ADHD and stuff, so when it's done, would you like to be tagged to read it?
(Sorry for anon, I'm nervous lmao, but if you'd be more comfortable I'll resend this off anon)
AAY good topic! You've got a lot to work with. Absolutely feel free to reference anything I've written, and tag me when you're done.
While you're here and about to write something so legitimate, I'm also going to recommend you check out Sunnyfall's video on gender in Warrior Cats. She breaks down the arcs into numbers, directly comparing the amount of lines mollies have to toms, and examining the archetypes women are usually allowed to be.
I think it's a must-have citation in a paper about WC misogyny.
...and, I think it's insightful to look at the WCRP Forum thread about the video. Note how the respondents immediately come into the thread to complain about how the video is too long so they didn't watch it, dismissing Sunnyfall as not being entertaining enough to hold their attention, even whining that she starts with statistics to prove her point, which I'm convinced she did exactly because they would have cried that she "had no evidence" if she didn't.
I am not a scholar, so I don't know how to document or prove that the books have an impact on the audience outside of anecdotes. But I think if you do write a section about fandom, it would be worth mentioning the in-universe and metatextual apologia for Ashfur and its reflection in the real world discourse, the authorial killing of Ferncloud because of fan complains, and the utter defensiveness against the discussion of misogyny you see outside of Tumblr.
You may also want to check out Cheek by Jowl, a collection of 8 essays about sexism in xenofiction by Ursula K. Le Guin. There's a very unique manifestation of authorial bias in animal fiction, having a lot to do with how the author views "the natural world," and it's worth understanding even though Warrior Cats are so heavily anthropomorphized.
So... Warrior Cats Misogyny
I think discussing individual instances can be helpful, but I'd implore you to keep in mind what's REALLY bad about WC's misogyny is framing and the bigger picture.
Bumble's death is shocking and insulting, but it's not just that she died. It's that the POV Gray Wing sees her as a fat, useless bitch who took his mate so she deserves to be dragged back to a domestic abuser, and he's right because the writers love him so much. It's that Bumble's torture and killing only factors into how it's going to hurt a man's reputation.
It's how Clear Sky hitting, emotionally manipulating, or killing the following women,
Bright Stream (pressured into leaving her home and family)
Storm (controlled her movements and yelled at her in public)
Misty (killed for land, children stolen)
Bumble (beaten unconscious, blamed nonsensically on a fox)
Alder (child abuse, hit when she refused to attack her brother)
Falling Feather (scratched on the face, subjected to public abuse and humiliation)
Tall Shadow (thrown into murderous crowd, attacked on-sight in heaven)
Rainswept Flower ("blacked out" in anger and murdered in cold blood)
Moth Flight (scratched on the face for saying denying medical treatment is mean, taken hostage in retaliation against mother for the death of his own child, which he caused)
Willow Tail (eyes gouged out for "stirring up trouble")
Is seen as totally understandable, forgivable, or not even questioned at all, when killing Gray Wing in an act of rage would have been "one step too far" with the ridiculous Star Line.
"Kill me and live with the memory, and then let the stars know it would only matter if a single one of your murder victims was a man."
It's the way that fathers who physically abuse their kids out of their ego (Clear Sky, Sandgorse, Crowfeather) aren't treated anywhere near the same level of narrative disgust and revulsion the series has for "bad moms", even if they're displaying symptoms of a post-partum mood disorder (depression, anxiety, and rage), an umbrella of mental illnesses 20% of all new mothers experience but are heavily stigmatized with (Sparkpelt, Palebird, Lizardstripe).
It's Crookedstar's Promise giving him two evil maternal figures in a single book, while bending over backwards to make every man in a position of power still look likeable in spite of the fact they're enabling Rainflower's abuse. Leader Hailstar is soso sorry that he has to change Stormkit's name for some reason, in spite of leaders being unaccountable dictators the other 99% of the time, and Deputy Shellheart functionally does nothing to stop his own son from being abused or even do much parenting before or after the fact.
It's the way men's parental struggles are seen sympathetically, and they don't have to "pay for it" like their female counterparts (Crookedstar's PPD vs Sparkpelt's PPD, how Daisy and Cinders are held responsible for Smoky and Whisper being deadbeats, Yellowfang's endless guilt for killing her son vs Onestar's purpose in life to kill his own), even to the point where a father doesn't have to have raised their kids at all to have a magical innate emotional connection to them (Tree's father Root, Tom the Wifebeater, Tigerstar and Hawkfrost).
It's less speaking lines and agency for female characters, being reduced to accessories in the lives of their mates and babies, women getting less diversity in their personalities, with even major ex-POV characters eventually becoming "sweet mom" tropes.
You could zoom in on any one of these examples and have an amoeba try to argue with you that "Oh THIS makes sense because X" or "Ah well my headcanon perfectly explains this thing" or "MY mother/girlfriend was abusive/toxic/neglectful and I've decided that you are personally attacking ME by having issues with how a character was written or utilized," but the beleaguered point,
That I keep trying to hammer in, over and over, across books worth of posts,
Is that these are trends. More than just a couple one-off examples. It's the fabric that has been woven over years, showing a lack of interest in, or even active prejudice of, women on behalf of the writers.
LONG STANDING trends, which have only gotten worse as the series progressed. From Yellowfang being harshly punished with a born evil son who ruins her life in TPB and the mistreatment of Squirrelpaw that begins in TNP, all the way up to the 7 Fridgenings of DOTC and Sparkpelt's PPD being a major character motivator for her son Nightheart.
So, I would stress that in your paper, and structure it less as "the Sparkpelt slide" and "the Yellowfang slide," and more as "The paternal vs maternal abuse" slide, and "the violence against women" slide. They're really big issues, there's tons of examples for each individual thing.
Anyway to leave off on a funny, look at this scene in Darkest Hour that I find unreasonably hilarious,
Tumblr media
"Everyone who matters to me; my truest friend, my sensible and loyal warrior, the wisest deputy I've ever known, and 2 women." -Firestar, glorious idiot
He can't even think of a single trait for either of them what the hell does "formidable pair" mean lmaooo, when I finished a reread about a year ago this line killed me on impact.

im new to the fandom, so I miss a lot of the discourse (helped ofc by the fact you're kinda the only dp blog I follow), so everytime you mention the s4 backlash I'm like....how in the world could people hate that season or rayllum in it? It doesn't compute for me!
The last ship I was particularly engaged with, has a lot of similarities with rayllum. They were best friends, life partners before they were ever /romantic/ life partners. And they went through a /lot/ of trauma, miscommunication, and being on opposite sides of the same fight, etc etc.
the difference to rayllum was that they never rlly gave each other the grace they need. They also never talked on screen, but unlike rayllum it wasn't because it was the best option for them, it's just that the writers didn't want to include it ever - to the point that when they finally did an episode addressing it, it landed...very flat? Because it was about six seasons in, addressing things as far back as the second season, that they'd apparently never spoken to each other about before (they were tragically engaged when this happened).
Rayllum GENERALLY but especially in s4 have a really special place in my heart, because they feel very realistically messy - but it doesn't feel like it's there so there's some drama to keep audiences hooked. It feels authentic, and is one of those rare cases where it strengthens their relationship. I definitely could buy that rayllum would survive anything that hit their relationship by the end of s3, but getting to actually SEE that and see how much they're willing to work through out of love and respect for each other? Fantastic.
(also like it's such good character development....i am with u in the s4 defense squad. is there a squad? If there is I'm in it)
First off welcome to the fandom and I hope you're having a good time!!
The fact that my blog is mostly discourse free cause while I tag accordingly (fandom nonsense and dragons gets salty for potential blacklisting purposes) I always worry I can dip too far into that on occasion (I do my best not to unless being called out by name, and even then mostly do my best to ignore stuff), but there's not too much discourse within TDP in general — at least not in the Rayllum corner, luckily.
I think that's why the S4 backlash really surprised and threw me for a loop, because my partner and I finished the season at like 7AM on release day and while different than expected, we loved it and thought it was great from the start. Then we went online and people in the fandom who I'd largely always agreed with were having a really hard time with the season and it was disheartening at least to not have many people to talk to about why 1) S4 is TDP's thematically strongest season thus far and that's still true, 2) it's Ezran's best season imo, and 3) it does a lot of things really really well in really interesting ways.
I always try to never come down Too Hard on the s4 backlash just because people are of course entitled to their feelings/opinions then as well as now (even if some people's tunes have definitely changed), but a lot of it did feel sometimes short sighted if not immature.
Like soo many people are still mad that Rayla and Callum broke up in an offscreen graphic novel, when S4 would still be S4 regardless of whether TTM existed and like... if Rayla worrying that she failed (again) and went off on her own (again) to protect Callum was a big logical leap, then that person honestly just wasn't paying attention; there's not much else to say there. I also think it's just a strange choice to assume that Nothing Major would change the second you find out about a timeskip; like, almost everything else is status quo, Rayla being gone is the One Major Change and people couldn't handle that being a Surprise?
Like you said, conflict between a couple is not inherently a bad thing; it can be good and interesting, and this was always a relationship hurdle I think a lot of Rayllums (myself included) expected Rayla and Callum to have to tackle. Not liking how extreme or 'dramatic' it was (ie. season long arc > just a few episodes, or Rayla leaving > just trying to leave) is fair enough, but given that it's rooted in so much of Rayla's character, I'd much rather take a long way around approach that's in depth. I'm also just Glad and Grateful that the show is tackling it and treating it like the issue it is rather than sweeping things under the rug.
The fact that Callum's version of anger wasn't the one people wanted is another issue, but again — his anger went the way I'd always thought it might if he just went through enough trauma, and even if he had yelled at her, I don't think the season would've necessarily gone any different than it did other than them crying more early on. Which I've written and wouldn't have minded, but I also don't dislike the alternative route canon took — of course they were never going to get all variations out there, but Callum is cold as hell and being a bit of a jerk while also being valid and tempering himself because he doesn't want to hurt her anymore than she wants to hurt him (and Callum has always been very very bad at being/staying mad with Rayla or Ezran anyway).
I saw a lot of pushback against Rayllum being 'platonic' (which was annoying as an aromantic person lemme tell you, as though platonic is lesser), being "broken up for no reason" (Rayla being hyper-independent was not a secret and always going to be what threatened to rip them apart; they are also still Visibly and Repeatedly In Love with each other how is that broken up), or that they didn't get to have a Big Feelings Time in S4.
With that in mind, there's a lot that also matters in a relationship beyond just Open Communication, tbh. There's going to be times in life where you're not able to or unwilling to talk about certain things (given that S4 is maybe a week, I think that's reasonable; especially when Rayllum still haven't talked to each other about it as of s5 and no one I saw have an issue in S4 about it has complained about it there) and like... how do you treat each other when you're still mad or confused and haven't talked everything out? Do you still take care of each other, are you still doing your best to be considerate of each other (even if you're also not going to be perfect)? That shit matters just as much if not more as people able to sit down and hash things out.
I think the truth is a lot of the things that pissed people off about S4 would've been true even if the opposite things had happened:
N'than is flat and under developed unlike Ellis → N'than is more developed → why is N'than taking away from screentime for other characters?
The Sunfire plotline feels disconnected from the rest of the story (nvm that Viren's arc from 1x06 onwards doesn't affect any main character again until 3x04) → the Sunfire plot line has more connections to the main cast crammed in → more complaints about pacing and things feeling overly stuffed, as scenes already change from one to the next quite clearly
Callum and Rayla have a big talk sometime between 4x03-4x07 → this doesn't give Callum enough time to be angry / makes him seem unreasonable because he's admitted he was mostly worried but is still not fully letting her in despite her spilling her guts to him (and in what world would Rayla give excuses, again, when she knows he's the one hurting and taking priority in her mind)
S4's humor was bad because there were fart jokes (in one episode) → the crowlord's joke is so much worse than the fart jokes imo and is on par with the walnut joke in 1x06. also 1-2 scenes with jokes that didn't work for you out of 9 whole ass episodes is like. you're just a wuss i'm sorry
The Sunfire plot line is boring → will never not feel like "I just can't connect or be interested in politics and religious disagreements when it's mostly about Black people for Some Reason (racism)" to me tbh
There was no way to please everyone especially after a three year hiatus (because people think, For Some Reason, that how much time it takes for a story to come out should change how that story is written and it really, really doesn't) but yeah. The internet showed their asses and I was Not Impressed lmao
TLDR; a lot of the S4 backlash was "I'm mad this isn't happening now and I'm stressed out/worried that it won't be" as opposed to "this is only a problem if it never happens at all, but I have faith that it will," and I will love S4 forever. The Callum-Viren parallels being ramped up, the theme of duality and moving "doing terrible things for love" to the forefront with multiple characters (Rayla, Terry, Viren, Claudia), seeing Ezran step into his role as king, Callum's arc being shown > told, the set up for the possession plot line, Janaya's engagement and relationship development + Amaya and Janai's independent arcs? Chef's kiss. S4 is my best friend and its Rayllum dynamic is on par with S3 for me, and I am very grateful the fandom's attitude towards s4 and s4 Rayllum is a lot warmer / more reasonable now
When Callum says "unconditionally" in 5x01 and all their stuff in S5 we know and believe it because we've seen them fight and work so hard to come back from some pretty terrible brinks in imperfect ways, and I'll always love s4 for that. The most aspec Rayllum season by far

deepfakes are inherently unethical
it’s a deepfake of william fuckin shatner as jim kirk saying a few lines of dialogue from a cut scene from a movie from 15 years ago. i do generally agree with deepfakes being unethical, but like. c’mon 😭

Hi Ralph. I hope you’re doing as well as you can be and I thank you for being so patient with all of us.
As someone who’s been involved in social justice movements, organizing etc, how do you deal with confusion, conflicting feelings, and nuance? And how do you handle a potential disagreement with a close friend about it? Also I’m sorry that this is long. I’m thinking out loud and I don’t expect you to answer the questions or even the anon. It’s more to represent my conflicting thoughts and I was wondering how you deal with this kind of thing. Obviously I’m not struggling compared to people there, or the majority of people anywhere, but I thought you might relate, maybe?
My friend (she’s fifty years older and like a grandma to me) is Jewish and supports Israel completely, is a democrat. She’s brilliant, funny, has her phD, has traveled, knows Palestinians, dated one while living in Europe, etc. She said that he believed that members of groups like Hamas cared more about glory and freedom than the health of their people. We were talking about pro-Palestine tweets among Taylor fans. She said she hopes someone like Taylor would come forward supporting Israel and condemning Hamas. I agreed with her aloud even though I don’t agree. How would you deal with this situation?
I’m conflicted about Israel/Palestine. I don’t know if Hamas cares about regular Palestinian lives. I wonder how many Palestinians they thought would die after Israel retaliates. It’s almost as if they’re provoking an even worse humanitarian crisis. But then Israel provoked the creation of Hamas. Im revolted by the excessive bombing and use of white phosphorus. Who I am to judge Hamas, really? But I judge them anyway. I can’t fathom what’s happening to Palestinians.
It’s absolutely understandable that Jews wanted their own country after the Holocaust. I think if the majority of major religions have countries, it’s important that Jews have one too. I don’t think Israel’s an invalid state but I think it’s run by a terrible man and I don’t like much of what they do. It bothers me when people online call it “isntreal.” Aldo I don’t get why they say Israel didn’t exist until 1949 because that land is referred to in the Bible as Israel? Are Israelis and Jews more indigenous to the land than Palestinians if the Jews were there thousands of years ago? How do people declare who’s the most indigenous? Some people think the Jews are taking their land back? Some people think Hamas is a resistance movement? But justification of terrorism is horrifying. It’s not like there was a vote in Palestine to decide whether to attack Israel. If there were, and the majority voted to hurt Israel, Israel would have more justification. But it’s terrifying that Hamas has decided they represent everyone. So many more Palestinians are dying because Hamas gave israel justification to kill more. Israel’s treatment of Gaza will radicalize more young people into joining organizations like Hamas. It’s a disaster.
Iran’s involvement makes me suspicious. I think they want Israel destroyed and don’t care about Palestinians. Why would they care about Palestinians when they murder or arrest women who don’t “properly” cover their hair? But also, the US helped overthrow Iran’s last democratic leader? But also it’s important for israel to exist to have a democratic ally in the Middle East?
I’m 18 and I’m trying to learn everything I can before making judgments. Did you feel conflicted like this when you were younger? Do you still feel like this? I think social media has made it even more confusing. I can’t tell what’s reliable and what’s not. But also, how would someone allegedly live-tweeting from Gaza prove that they’re reliable? Why should they have to? How do you decide what to trust or not trust?
I’m especially worried about American republicans who appear to be supporting Palestine only because Biden supports Israel. I’m worried that young leftists will begin to trust these republicans because they agree with the republicans on one international issue. So many young people supporting Israel are retweeting a man who’s pinned tweet is about how he had a great time chatting with tucker Carlson. That man supports palestine because he wants to prove that Biden is evil or incompetent etc. How does one trust anyone in government ever? I’m worried Biden will lose the 2024 election because of his support for Israel will cost him the support of democrats. And then we’ll end up with someone astronomically worse.
Thank you.
Also just for anyone reading, I listened to this amazing podcast about the history of Israel/Palestine. It was published in September and august of this year so it isn’t colored by the recent events and subsequent/sudden pity for Israel. I like especially the explanation about how Israelis and Palestinians have different names for the same event. It can be the worst day ever or the best day ever, depending on who you are

Thanks so much for your thoughts anon - sending you all the love as you make sense of the world. It took me a long time to figure out what I thought about Israel and Palestine and at times I felt it was too complicated and found the way people talked about Israel stressful, even when I was on Palestinian solidarity protests.
You don't have to have this all figured out to take action. You think the current actions of the Israeli state are terrible - that's enough to take action in solidarity with Palestinians. I really encourage you to do what you can in this week - you don't need to have untangled and resolved everything to take solidarity action.
In terms of the advice you were asking for - my main point is that it's OK that you feel confused and unclear and give yourself time to figure out almost all of this. You will learn more about Israel and Palestine with time. It's OK to take time to figure out how to have friends with people who you disagree with and who pressure you to agree. You will figure out that with time - and my only advice is to give yourself time. The only urgency right now is to take action in solidarity with Palestine - and you can do that with all the confusion and ambiguous feelings you have.
For the rest - rather than trying to respond to everything you say - I'm going to focus on two specific ideas. There are beliefs that seem to underlie what you say and where I understand things very differently. I am offering these alternative ways of understanding the world as a way of showing how I see things. I don't know if they'll speak to where you're coming from or not, but they seemed like a good place to start.
The first is that I don't think religions having countries is a good thing - it's a cause of horrendous oppression and injustice. There are all sorts of examples from history of this idea (the reformation), but I think one particularly good and recent example is the partition of India and the consequences that flow down through till today.
It's easy, I think, for things to be naturalised or talked about as if they are natural - and so when people say oh X is OK because it's an example of Y - there can be a lot of ignorance about Y, which is actually terrible. I think being clear eyed about what ethnic or religious national states are actually like (and have been like) really helps see through some of the false equivalence that goes on with Israel.
You might have seen an anon come back twice and say 'don't you think Jewish people should have a state' and treat this as if the answer was obviously yes. If you understand what it means to say that only this group of people who live in this land should control the state that rules over it, then it becomes very clear why the answer should be no - and that's not a statement about Jewishness, but about the nature of states.
The second is that I disagree with your understanding of indigeneity in a way that is quite important - and might be useful. As you probably know I've spent most my life in New Zealand and that shapes how I see settler colonisation and resistance to it.
There's a simple rendition of the idea of indigeneity - which is the people who have had the longest connection with a particular piece of land are indigenous and therefore should be able to control what happens to it (or the other side where you look back and see who has the longest connection with land to decide who is right) - really quickly unravels and there's lots of the world where it would lead to supporting terrible things.
The alternative is to see that people become indigenous as a result of the process of dispossession through settler colonialism. Before settler colonies there are no indigenous people - there are just people who live places - just like there have been people who lives places all over the world for as long as there have been people
Settler colonisation is a way of controlling land and resources - and it's different from other sorts of imperialism. In the Americas, and later in New Zealand and Australia resources were taken by new societies that were built where people were already living. This was only possible because huge numbers of people were moved to that land on the basis of a promise that they would have access to land that they wouldn't have otherwise (alongside an ideology that the land they are claiming is their right). Settler colonialism is the process of taking over a society by offering people access to resources, particularly land, to move to the new place (in the Americas obviously there was also the forcible movement of enslaved people in addition to settler colonisation, but it is this movement of free people that characterises settler colonisation). It is the combination of offering inducement to move people, and using those people to maintain power, that makes settler colonisation different from other forms of migration. It's only in the face of settler colonialism that people who are living their lives become indigenous people.
That is the sense in which Palestinians are indigenous to the land of Israel - they were dispossessed from their land and homes by people who lived elsewhere and moved with the assistance of the state and the intention to displace them. It's not about the ancient history of who deserves the land in some kind of mystical way - it's about a very specific (and in this case recent) history of intentional dispossession. I think the way that appeals the bible are used to obscure the very recent history is really well captured by Michael Rosen's poem Promised Land.
The final thing I want to say is to respond to your characterisation of that podcast. Because my response to what you said was to think: 'what a great summary of why it's impossible to support the state of Israel'. I don't think mine or anyone else's freedom or liberation can be built through the oppression of others. One of the most basic building blocks of my politics is the idea of solidarity 'an injury to one is an injury to all'. It's not at all unusual for horrors on one people to be a source of triumph for another - but I believe none of us have a chance unless we can build a different sort of world that is based on solidarity as opposed to fighting over scarcity. If a great joy for one people, is a catastrophe for another - it's a really clear sign that that great joy is not something that I can support politically.

It’s perhaps people like you who drove the rafolearchive off this site. What does it matter if they posted Rafa’s positive words towards Nole? Most of Rafa’s words towards Novak are actually positive or neutral. I think maybe you have built some sort of evil caricature of Rafa in your head and that’s okay you do you but the thing about his conditioning I cannot let slide as someone who also deals with chronic pain. Sorry @bluespring864 for doing this on your page.
Oh boy. Yes, me, who routinely sent the rafolearchive (off-anon!) asks and left them comments under anon asks they got where someone was really mean in their inbox and reblogged a lot of their stuff with nice comments about Rafa and Nole must be the one who drove them off this site.
I don't know what you're reading into my words but I literally said the rafolearchive mostly reposted happier interactions between Rafa and Nole because most of us enjoy people getting along well. And in the "most of us" group I very much included myself. (I think someone else may have said something about the rafolearchive posting more of Rafa's positive interactions with Novak (which is true, but in this case please talk to them and not me? Oh, I just realised, is that why you're 'apologising' to me for "doing this on my page" because one of my mutuals doesn't have their inbox open? Wow, that's a new level of being an online troll. So I guess that other part wasn't directed at me either lol. Still ridiculous to accuse another user of (politely) speaking their mind. If you were interested in an honest discussion you could just have replied to that conversation on the other post you took offense to. But clearly you need to hide behind anonymity. Future anons from you will be deleted unless you manage to stay more polite towards me and my mutuals. And please don't use me as proxy for fighting with someone ever again, what a godawful move. By the way I am sorry to hear you're dealing with chronic pain. I know something about living with pain for long periods of time and I know how bitter it can make people, I've spoken about this before. Which is the main reason why I started answering this in good faith until I realised exactly what you were doing here.

did lan wangji really wait for wei wuxian for thirteen years? I've seen that interpretation a lot (even in some adaptations) but i never got the impression that it's canon in the novel, not even with the paper money scene
hmmm... i'm not sure what you mean by "waited for thirteen years." do you mean simply "lan wangji never stopped loving wei wuxian," or something more specific like "lan wangji hoped wei wuxian would resurrect/played inquiry for thirteen years/etc."?
i'm assuming "wait" is the operative word here, and you're asking if lan wangji had expectations or hopes that wei wuxian would turn up again, but i'd like to ask for clarification just in case. ty!

Hi I just saw your amazing artwork displaying aloy having a late night study session and meeting erend - what subject would she study? I feel like beta would absolutely study physics, coding or AI like lis but I feel like aloy would absolutely be a more biology/chemistry oriented gal. What do you think?
Hello! Oh I am so happy you like the modern AU/roomates piece I did for ereloy week, its one of my faves! Modern AUs are my obsession. They're super fun to work with.
Super agree on your study hc for Beta. The Sobecks would all be women in stem, 100%. I even had a photo of one of Beta's science fair photos displayed on Erend and Aloy's fridge (She won first place, obviously 😌)
I like the idea that she would be into coding and computer engineering like Lis herself!
Tumblr media
Then for Aloy, I believe she'd love any STEM branches, but leaning into a more nature/field oriented branch, like biology/marine bio or environmental engineering- something where she can get involved in caring for the planet and keeping its balance, a paralell to her role in the original games.
In my piece and hcs, I like to make her a biologist! Here she is reading a book on marine bio for her next midterm (next to the apples Erend cut for her)

Love, everytime you mention me or that you want more of my thoughts, I happy stim. You can bug me for my thoughts at any time, and I’ll only take it as a compliment, don’t worry. But since you asked about collaring Simon here are some of my thoughts, as a treat for you 😘 we will call this part one, where you discuss collaring without doing it yet
I think that it’s a multiple day discussion first. You first have to explain to Simon the meaning of collaring, then the different types of collars you could give him, how that may affect the dynamic, and each time you give him time to think over what it is he wants. When he comes to you and says that he likes the idea of collaring, you move on to logistics.
You bring up that while you would love to properly collar him with a more classic collar, you are worried having something around his throat that sits so closely to it will make him feel choked and claustrophobic, instead of grounded and comfortable in your dynamic, not to mention that he’d never be able to have a day collar to wear constantly since he is in the military. You’d thought of a ring, as it could be slipped onto his dogtags when not in scene, but that would make Simon too nervous in case an enemy spots it and also if you ever give him a ring, you want it to be when he takes your last name (because like hell are you allowing him to keep that cunt’s last name when you have one so much better for him). So you bring up bracelets. One for scenes that has an o-ring on it that you can attach a leash to, that wouldn’t make him feel choked or trigger any of the trauma he has with being restrained or what not with his neck, while still being able to take your puppy on a walk. And, if he wants a day collar/permanent one, you can get one of those permanent chain ones that really just look like a chain that soldered onto people. It would be small/simple enough that no one besides the two of you would think anything of it, and since he always wears full sleeves and gloves when in the field, he could hide it while still wearing it. You could even get a matching one on your own wrist or on your ankle depending on what he feels more comfortable with. You stress that Simon can decide to do both these things, only one of them, or none of them, and that it will never change how much you love him and will not change the dynamic unless he wants it to. You stress that this was just the best solution you thought of, but that the two of you can continue to workshop it, as well as experiment with different methods until you find one that works best for Simon. That there is no shame in saying that you like the idea of a collar but the reality is too overstimulating and overwhelming to actually do. There are plenty of things in kink, and just in life, that are better as fantasies than reality. If Simon finds that collars fall into that domain, that’s completely fine, you both will just have to discuss if he wants you to bring it up as dirty talk during scenes or if he just wants to keep it as a private fantasy for himself.
Simon is near tears during this discussion, but they’re happy tears. You see him so completely: you don’t try to gloss over his trauma and say “it’ll be fine, it’s not a big deal anyways so he should be fine”, you take the time to account for the different ways it may come into play and try to accommodate it the best you can while still communicating to him that your insights are limited so he will take the lead in deciding his own comfort. You dont try to lead him to ideas you think are best, or try to manipulate him into going along with them, instead the whole time you are involving him in the process and waiting for his guidance. Even with all the trauma, with all the shame and pain he deals with, you see them and don’t love him despite them but regardless. This conversation is one of the many that drives home to him just how much you love him, and it fills him with so much gratitude and love for you that it feels like it is overflowing from his soul, like no words or actions or amount of time will ever be enough to show you just how much love he has for you. It overwhelming in the best of ways, and he is more certain than ever that he wants to wear the proof of his devotion to you on his body and soul for the rest of the world to see. His inner monologue as he gazes at you for the rest of the night is just “I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you” and it’s the truth.
He loves you.
-🐶
anon, you have a way of making me so emotional with your concepts, oh my god <3
most conversations like this have to be multiple days. it just takes him a little more time to process things. like it takes him a full day to even be able to look you in the eyes after you bring up that you would like to collar him. he spends the day spiraling between blushing to himself at the prospect and then feeling ashamed about wanting to be collared like an actual fucking dog.
but he finally allows himself to come to you and say yes, this is what i want because that's why this whole dynamic is about him, him fully accepting himself and his desires.
i think he really wants to wear a collar around his neck because he just wants to be normal and doesn't want you to have to make accommodations for him. but then you're pulling out your laptop and showing him all these different bracelets you can get him, different materials and colors and he's just sat stunned at the amount of time and effort you've put into this. for him.
you go out to one of those places that does the forever jewelry. getting dainty little chains soldered onto your wrists and then when you go home you slip the leather bracelet around his wrist as he falls to his knees in front of you, nosing underneath your shirt and letting his head rest against your warm skin as he sinks further and further into puppy space.
i like to view the puppy dynamic as simon's way of saying, i trust you. he allows you to see every part of himself because you've proven time and time again that you can handle every part of him. that you want every part of him. when he allows you to slip a leash into the o-ring of his bracelet and he spends the day following you around the house it's his way of saying i trust you with all of me, my wants, my needs, my body, my soul.

hi your thematic tags in general frighten me and I love them. they have dragged me further down the rabbit hole than I knew existed. I hope many of your theories are proved right (PARTICULARLY excited about the speculation that the cube is one of the diamonds, like HES BEEN CARRYING THAT WITH HIM AND IF AARAVOS IS FREED BC HE COUPDNT MAKE HIMSELF DESTROY IT I JUST) i'm very normal about this u see
listen i am king of the rabbit hole, themes are my shovel and i just keep on digging. like we Know there's something up with the fucking relic staff. we Know that (presumably) all three quasar diamonds are needed to free rayla's parents (although maybe just one would work?) so one is presumably missing. aaravos' chest piece is noticeably gone but there's no way he was born / is probably a tangible mark of how he's Fallen and 'imperfect'. and like. after the "dark mage callum holding the ocean rune / moon being most on display" for the 2x08 visions foreshadowing 5x08 i would not put anything past them
Tumblr media
like this shit? they'd think it's soo funny
i was thinking just the other day that the cube's current known ability of detecting the primal source of stuff would be helpful for someone who is going to collect multiple sources of primal magic, and while there might just be mage connoisseurs out there (we only know a couple of elven mages but they seem to mostly stay within their own primal?), it's like... that sounds Really helpful for a dark mage in particular?? who would want to use certain primals/ingredients for different spells?
even the emphasis rayla puts in her "dear callum" letter of a "missing piece of your heart" and how she has a missing piece of callum's, only to return that with the cube also on her shoulder (for no in-universe real reason? it's gotta be symbolic of Something)?? and the way the an arcanum is "the tiniest piece of a primal" the same way the key is Probably another piece of the prison puzzle and/or Aaravos' mystery because an arcanum is "a secret and a spark" (the mystery of Aaravos / "his touch: a blaze, a gift, a spark" from the midnight star poem) like
there's Something here in the consistency of the symbolism / language used, how tethered or overlapping it may be but like. WE'RE CONNECTING THE DOTS (we didn't connect shit) WE'RE CONNECTING THEM
